Applying for a Dubai visa is an easy process. But, just to make sure you are on track, avoid any possible last-minute confusion by going through these guidelines. Here are the rules and regulations:

  • The type of Dubai visa depends on several factors like your purpose of visit, nationality, and duration.
  • Based on your travel plan, make sure to apply for the right kind of visa.
  • You can book flight tickets to Dubai before applying for a visa.
  • The tourist visas are valid up to 60 days from the date of issue. However, a transit visa, the 48-hour and 96-hour visa, is only valid for 30 days after issuing the visa.
  • If you hold a transit visa, both the entry and exit have to be from Dubai Airport .
  • Dubai visa for Indian nationals is electronic (e-visa). You will need a printout of the e-visa to show it to the immigration officer.
  • Apply for the Dubai visa at least a month prior to your travel.
  • To be eligible for a travel visa, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months.
  • Remember to carry scanned copies of all your documents - Passport, confirmed return ticket and passport size photographs.
  • Before travelling, check the updated rules and regulations, on carrying of Covid-19 vaccination certificate or a negative RT-PCR test result, from your local government sites/airlines.
  • Incomplete application is a major reason why a visa gets rejected. If you give false information such as inconsistency with the travel dates, or damaged passport and tampered documents, the visa will get rejected.
  • If you failed to apply for a visa extension and overstayed during your previous travel, it is likely your visa may get rejected.
  • Handwritten passports are no longer accepted.
  • Any error on application with false names, spelling mistakes, or wrong date of birth is not accepted.
  • Another chance your Dubai visa may get rejected is if you did not use your previous visa.
  • Your Dubai visa is likely to get rejected or delayed if your photograph is blurred or has certain marks on it.
  • Avoid mentioning your profession as unskilled as this may affect your chances of getting the visa. However, always give correct information. Do not lie on the application.
  • Having a clean criminal record is always a good way to go. UAE will not accept visa application if you have any past criminal history.
  • If you have a Dubai residence visa and choose to leave the country without cancelling the visa, then it is likely that Dubai immigration may reject your tourist visa.

Why did my visa get rejected?

You can appeal to the UAE High Commission by sending them a mail or visiting the centre with your concerns.

Will I get a refund if my visa gets rejected?

No. Once you have paid the visa fee, it will not be refunded.

Is the UAE visa different from Dubai visa?

No. Oftentimes people get confused with these two types of visas. Since Dubai is one of the popular cities in the UAE, the UAE visa is basically synonymous with the Dubai visa. Travellers use this term interchangeably while applying for the visa.

Can I reapply for Dubai visa after it has been rejected?

Yes, you can reapply for a tourist visa even though it has been rejected. However, if you have appealed to the UAE commission for the reason for your visa rejection, you will need to wait for the response.

What are the different types of tourist visa for Indian nationals?

Based on your duration of stay, you can apply for Dubai visa for 14 days, 30 days, or 90 days. These visas can be extended from Dubai itself. However, it is not applicable for transit visas.

What is the Golden Visa for the UAE?

Golden Visa is a newly introduced scheme where an outsider can apply for a long-term stay. Indians are eligible for this visa.

Some developers in Dubai are offering and paying for multiple Golden Visas to investors and their family members in order to attract high-net-worth individual buyers.

Investors and end-users buying property worth Dh2 million or above are eligible for the 10-year residency programme in the UAE.

Damac Properties, the largest private developer in Dubai, has been offering three Golden Visas to buyers of Violet unit at the Damac Hills 2 project and bearing the cost of the 10-year residency visas. The master developer announced that its 600 units worth Dh1.2 billion of Violet Phase 3 were sold out in just a few hours after the launch, reflecting that the demand of the Golden Visas is staying strong among property buyers.

“Golden Visas have become a large reason why investors are buying property in Dubai. It is also one of the things that investors don’t realise that they are eligible for because it is still relatively new. So we wanted to be a pioneer in the market to offer this as a token of appreciation to investors that have entrusted us with their investments,” said Amira Sajwani, managing director at Damac Properties.

The 10-year visa, through property investment or other avenues, has been quite popular among investors.

“The UAE’s Golden Visa programme provides long-term residency options of up to 10 years for investors, entrepreneurs, and highly skilled professionals. To qualify, applicants must invest at least Dh2 million in local property or businesses. The programme has been pivotal in attracting global talent and investment,” said Get Golden Visa, which provides services of second residency or citizenship.

Imran Farooq, CEO of Samana Developers, also confirmed that they offer multiple Golden Visas and process these visas at the company’s premises.

“There is no need to visit the government offices for this purpose. The visa processing team at Samana takes care of the entire visa process. Samana Developers can also handle shared properties in case of husband-wife and shared partners,” he added.

Echoing his industry peers, Danish Shareef, managing director of Blanco Thornton Properties Dubai, said real estate developers are offering and paying for multiple Golden Visas to investors and their families to enjoy the benefits of long-term residency with hordes of other perks, with their multiple investment prepositions.

“We, at Blanco Thornton Properties, offer Golden Visa to investors purchasing property starting from Dh2 million at our Al-Barari, Majan project and a host of other upcoming projects to be launched at premium locations of Dubai,” he said.

Highlighting the impact of the 10-year residency, he said Golden Visas have attracted investors and high net worth individuals across the globe.

Anmoll D Shroff, founder and chairman of Elton Real Estate Development, said developers in Dubai frequently cover the visa costs, using it as a marketing tool to add significant value to property deals, particularly targeting high-net-worth individuals and their families interested in establishing a long-term presence in the UAE.

Anmoll D Shroff.

“Our company will offer a range of premium properties priced between Dh1.40 million and Dh3.20 million. While the Golden Visa is an attractive incentive for many investors, we evaluate each client’s needs individually to design tailored solutions that align with their investment goals,” he said, adding that while the policy has great potential, it’s important to ensure a balanced approach to maintain the value of luxury properties and encourage genuine investment.

“With careful management, this strategy can effectively attract buyers who appreciate both the residency benefits and the quality of the property itself, contributing to a healthy and dynamic market. Overall, this strategy aligns well with Dubai’s vision of becoming a global hub for business and tourism, while also ensuring a steady influx of investment and talent,” he said.

After a two-year hiatus, Emirates, the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is set to resume flights to Nigeria on October 1, 2024.

This comes as a significant development following the UAE's decision to lift its visa ban on Nigerian travelers, a move that had halted movement between the two nations.

The financial impasse led to the UAE imposing a visa ban on Nigerians, further complicating travel and business relations.

Emirates announces travelling fees for Nigerians

Ahead of the resumption of flights, Emirates has opened ticket bookings for Nigerian passengers. The airline's website now lists fares starting at $665.30 () for economy class and $8,852 for first class. This move is expected to facilitate travel for passengers eager to reconnect with Dubai.

In tandem with the resumption of flights, the Dubai Visa Processing Centre (DVPC) has reopened its portal for Nigerian visa applications.

" We are excited to inform you that the DVPC is now accepting visa applications for passengers traveling to Dubai, " read a message from Emirates to its Nigerian travel partners.

Active negotiation with UAE

The federal government of Nigeria has been actively negotiating with UAE authorities to resolve the issues that led to the visa ban. However, despite the resumption of visa applications, some restrictions remain in place for certain applicants, according to aviation analyst and Director of Research at Zenith Travels, Mr. Olumide Ohunayo.

UAE Visa Amnesty from Sept 1: No Fines, Fees for Overstayers

S tarting September 1, the UAE is offering a two-month visa amnesty for those with expired visas, allowing them to either change their status or leave the country without facing fines.

Who Can Apply?

The amnesty is open to residents whose visas have expired, visitors who overstayed their visit visas, and children born in the UAE whose parents failed to apply for their residency. It also covers those who fled from their sponsors. However, those who entered the country illegally or violated visa rules after September 1 are not eligible.

Where to Apply?

Amnesty applications can be processed at designated ICP centers across the UAE, including locations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and other emirates. In Abu Dhabi, applicants can visit centers in Al Dhafra, Suwaihan, Al Maqam, and Al Shahama. In Dubai, services are available at Amer service centers and the Al Awir immigration violators' center. The centers operate daily from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Cost and Procedure

The process is free of charge, including obtaining an exit permit. Any existing fines will be waived, and the exit permit is valid for 14 days. If the individual does not leave the country within this period, previous fines will be reinstated. Those who exit will not face a ban and can return to the UAE in the future.

Special Cases :  Children and Exit Permits

Parents with unregistered children must obtain a passport or travel document for the child and apply for an exit pass either online or at the amnesty centers. Those who change their status can also update their children’s status without penalties.

Amnesty Deadline

The amnesty runs until October 31. In the past, similar initiatives have been extended due to high demand, allowing thousands of people to resolve their residency status.

Background and Impact

This initiative aims to help those without valid documentation, offering them a chance to regularize their status or return home without legal consequences. The amnesty is part of the UAE's efforts to maintain legal residency amidst a growing population. In a previous amnesty in 2018, over 105,000 people benefited, with thousands securing new visas or exit permits.

Why a Visa Amnesty?

Visa amnesties provide a fresh start for many, ensuring that people living in the UAE are doing so legally. With recent changes in visa regulations, including the introduction of golden and green visas, the government continues to adapt to the evolving needs of the population.
