Disney Wish: Fairytale Fresh Laundry – Self-Service Laundry Facility & Dry Cleaning

The Disney Wish features a first for Disney Cruise Line, and I am not talking about the first attraction at sea – The AquaMouse. No, the Disney Wish has one centralized self-service laundry room instead of multiple smaller locations spread out on the passenger decks like the Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy .

The Fairytale Fresh Laundry is located on Deck 8, midship aboard the Disney Wish. The central self-service laundry facility offers 26 washing machines, 30 clothes dryers, 8 ironing board stations, 3 sinks, and a waiting area. At the time of publication, 1 complete load of laundry will cost you $6.00 ($3 to wash and $3 to dry); extra if you need to purchase detergent or fabric softener from the Soap Center for $1/each.

Sure, one could argue this is not as convenient as having a a laundry room down the hall from your stateroom, but one larger space eliminates the searching for an open machine while lugging a bag of dirty clothes around the ship. Time will tell if the decrease in total machines from 33 washers and 40 dryers spread over 7 locations onboard the Dream and Fantasy will cause a backup. For comparison, the Magic and Wonder have 15 pairs of washers and dryers and 6 Toal irons spread out over 3 locations. I will admit, there is another trade-off depending on the location of your stateroom, you may need to build in a few more minutes for a quick trip to a laundry room to iron some clothes before dinner.

Additionally, the Fairytale Fresh Laundry room is spacious and seems to be well ventilated. If you are like me and are a frequent clothes washer, especially on longer voyages (I realize the Disney Wish is only sailing 3- and 4-night cruises, but what about the other 2 ships) you will appreciate the larger space and cold flowing A/C.

You will find a laundry bag and the following laundry service order form in your stateroom’s closet. Onboard dry cleaning is one of my things about cruising. I will often send out a suite or my tuxedo on the first night.

Hi Scott, just curious if there are spaces to fold clothes?

No folding tables. However, there are plenty of ironing boards that could be used to fold.

Me too.. Love sending that stuff out. They do a great job and it is so cheap. Often I send out the last night so I can go home with a clean suitcase

Even with all our many cruises, my wife and I have never washed & dried any of our clothes…yet. Either we are lucky or bring enough (too much) to wear. Since accidents happen, we could see our selves using this facility. On the WONDER, we have only used the ironing board. I have considered using the Dry Cleaning though for my suit.

The dry cleaning service is all we use. They are amazing.

Did you capture any photos showing the available washer and dryer settings ?

Sara, not all the signage was up and we did not have a need to do a load of laundry. This is on our list for the Maiden Voyage and I will update the article with any additional findings.

Were those two chairs and two stools the only seating for “wait-ers”?

Yes, this was the only seating.

You said it isn’t as convenient as having one down the hall from your stateroom. As of this date, my stateroom IS just down the hall from the laundry room. In fact, I’m just around the corner from it. 🙂 (If I get to keep the stateroom by my cruise next year)

I assume you still get the notifications via the app when the machine is finished?

This sounds as if it would be more inconvenient, hotter, and noisier. Perhaps people should do their laundry while they are jogging up and down the stairs.

Where is the entrance to the laundry? Is it in the hall by the staterooms or near the elevators?

The entrance is off the elevator/stairway lobby.

Can you bring your own detergent? For instance I use the Gain Pods. Could I bring a few of those with me?

Yes, we travel with our own detergent.

Exploring The Fairytale Fresh Laundry Aboard The Disney Wish

Laundry while on a Disney Cruise vacation? No thank you! I’m sure that is what most of you are thinking right now. But hear me out…MickeyBlog just toured the Fairytale Fresh Laundry aboard the Disney Wish and after seeing this place you’ll be singing a different tune.

The Fairytale Fresh Laundry is located on Deck 8 of the Disney Wish and dare I say it…almost pretty? It offers guests a chance to wash, dry and iron their clothing so over packing is no longer an issue.

In total there are 26 washers and 26 dryers for guests to use. With this many available I don’t foresee much (if any) of a wait to clean your clothes. However, I would recommend visiting during off times. One of the best times to do laundry is when the ship is in port and many guests are out exploring for the day.

Self Service Laundry Procedure:

Check for available machine
If the door is closed, turn knob to unlock position
Load the machine and add detergent to washer
Place your Key to the World card on the “Tap Here” section of the reader
Follow prompts on the reader nd select preferred cycle by turning the knob

Wanting to look your best for formal night in the dining room? Or dressing up to dine at Remy? Then you’ll definitely want to stop by Fairytale Fresh Laundry to iron out any winkles that packing may have caused.

To use the flat iron, rotate the timer to your desired period (in mutes) of use. Just make sure you put the iron back into its holder on the wall after use.

You can also find larger sinks available if you need or want to handwash something. There are multiple located around the room to use.

Our efforts to cover every part of the brand-new Disney Wish have brought us to an unexpected place, Fairytale Fresh Laundry. While a mundane topic for sure, this is actually a pretty nicely done laundry facility.

The ship’s laundry facility located in the middle of Deck 8 features decor inspired by Bambi .

Laundry notification services are available on the DCL Navigator app.

Fabric softener and laundry detergent can be purchased.

Wash and dry costs $3 a load.

Ironing boards are also available for your convenience.

The facility also features a pair of sinks.

Disney Cruise Line Laundry – Price List, Services, and Self-Service Laundry

If you are considering a cruise with Disney, you might be wondering about the types of laundry services that they offer onboard.

I have just returned from a cruise on the Disney Magic.

Do Disney Cruise Ships Have Self-Service Laundries?

Disney Cruise Line have self-service laundries on board all of their cruise ships. These are available for guests to use 24 hours a day. The self-service laundries on Disney cruise ships do cost money to use with a wash starting at $3.

Fabric detergent and softener are available to buy from machines located in the laundry, these start at $1. All charges are made to your onboard account. The irons are free to use at any time without charge.

Each washing machine and dryer has a number of settings including: Normal Wash, Light Wash, Synthetic Wash, Wool Wash. Dry, Extra Dry, Low-Temperature Dry.

Self-service laundries are located on multiple decks on each ship. Facilities vary by laundry.

The Disney app is used to let you know when your laundry is done. The Disney app played a big part in our Disney cruise, to learn why and see how it works in practice, watch this video:

How Much Does Laundry Cost on a Disney Cruise?

Disney Cruise Line offers dry cleaning, a standard wash and press only services. Laundry prices vary from $1.50 to $12.00 per item. To wash a single shirt costs $4.50, to dry clean a shirt costs $5.40 and to press only a shirt costs $2.70.

Note: Disney doesn’t offer a press-only service for items like socks or handkerchiefs.

The prices of laundry (and all things on cruise ships) change regularly.

Laundry is usually returned the next day by 5.30 pm if you would like your clothes returned faster there are two options:

Collected by 9am and returned by 5.30pm the same day – 50% EXTRA CHARGE.
Any item collected and returned within 3 hours – 100% EXTRA CHARGE.

How do You Use The Pay Per Item Laundry with Disney Cruises?

To use the laundry service on a Disney cruise simply fill out the laundry sheet and total up the amount that you are spending.

Then place your items in the laundry bag. I’m sure that the laundry checks this but it’s always good to have an idea of how much you are spending too. It’s also important that you write down your stateroom number, name, and date.

Disney Cruise Line Laundry Terms:

“To insure the safest handling we must use our discretion on dry cleaning and laundering each garment. Fragile or hand washable garments must be dry cleaned to insure prompt service. Not responsible for shrinkage, fastness of color, zippers or for articles left in clothing.”

Any claim must be made within 24 hours.

In the case of loss or damage, the maximum liability of an item is 10x the price charged to wash and press that item.

If you have a particularly expensive dress or suit I would recommend that you don’t have this laundered by the cruise line.

Disney doesn’t accept any responsibility for your clothes if they shrink or become discolored.

Free Alternatives to Cruise Line Laundry Services

If at all possible I do try to avoid paying for laundry when I cruise. I usually make use of my free bag and wash any other items myself.

When I cruise I usually pack a little sachet of travel wash like this (affiliate link): Travel Wash .

I use the travel wash to wash things like t-shirts and socks in the cabin sink. It’s easy to do and almost free!

How to Use Travel Wash:

Using travel wash is really easy and doesn’t take long at all. Start by filling the sink with warm water then add a very small amount of the travel wash.

Move your clothes around in the wash and then put them to the side. I like to wash all clothes in the same bubbly water before moving on to rinse them off. Rinsing some clothes in the sink can be a bit tricky but rinsing them in the shower is always a good option.

Once you’ve washed your clothes, try to wring out as much of the water as possible, so that they can dry faster.

There is usually a line for hanging your clothes in the shower so I do this. Cruise lines do try to dissuade guests from hanging clothes on their balconies to dry because they can blow away and become a danger.

Is It Worth Paying For Laundry on a Disney Cruise?

Disney doesn’t have a ‘fill a bag’ promotion like other cruise lines do. All laundry is paid for on an item by item basis and whether it’s worth paying for depends on the value of having the item laundered for you.

If you are only wanting to wash a few t-shirts, maybe some gym clothes, socks, etc I’d strongly recommend that you do your own laundry in the cabin sink. It’s cheap and easy!

FAQ: Doing Laundry on Disney Cruise Line Ships

You’re sailing the seven seas! The sun! The salty air! The endless buffet! The laundry?

The last thing you probably want to be thinking about during your Disney Cruise Line vacation is laundry, but there are many situations where you might have to freshen up your clothes while traveling. Some of these might include:

You’ve spilled something on a key piece of your travel attire.
You have an ill child who soiled some of their clothing
You want to avoid luggage fees and are trying to get by with only carry-on-size bags with minimal clothing
You’re making a lengthy trip and it’s not practical to bring enough outfits for your entire stay
The weather was not as predicted, forcing you to re-wear your most climate-appropriate outfit
Your formal attire became wrinkled in your suitcase
You want to dry swimsuits before packing them to go home

OK, you’ve convinced me that I might need to do laundry. Does that mean there are laundry rooms on the Disney Cruise Line ships?

You guessed correctly, there are laundry rooms for guest use on Disney Wonder, Magic, Dream, and Fantasy. We’re presuming that there will laundry rooms on the Disney Wish (debuting this summer).

Where are the laundry rooms?

On the Wonder and Magic, self-service laundry rooms are on Decks 2, 6 and 7. On the Dream and Fantasy, they’re on decks 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Are there specific hours that laundry rooms are open?

The laundry rooms are open 24 hours per day.

How much does load of laundry cost?

For the self-service machines, each wash starts at $3.00 and each dry starts at $3.00. Nearby vending machines offer detergent and fabric softener, starting at $1.00 each.

You’re welcome to bring your own detergent and fabric softener if you have brand preferences. Many guests travel with a few detergent pods and fabric softener sheets in their luggage.

Do I need to bring coins for the machines?

No, all payment is made via your Key to the World Card (room key). There is no mechanism to use cash at the machines. Payment instructions are posted in the laundry rooms.

How long will it take to do a load?

Wash times vary from about 11 minutes to about 52 minutes, depending on the setting you choose (from warm rinse to hot heavy wash). Most dryer cycles take about 45 minutes.

Do I have to stay by the machine while I’m doing laundry?

No – with a caveat.

Since the laundry payment process is now linked to your Key to the World card and your onboard account, you can check on the status of your washing using the DCL Navigator app. You’ll get an alert when your load is done. Please pay attention to the alerts and head back to the laundry room in a timely fashion – other guests may be waiting for your machine.

I see irons in the laundry room photos here. Can’t I do touch-up ironing in my room?

No. Unlike the hotels at Disney World (and most other U.S. land-based locations), you will not find an iron, steamer, or ironing board in your stateroom. These are a fire hazard at sea. There are irons in the laundry rooms, but they must stay there.

Are the laundry rooms busy?

This varies widely depending on they type of sailing you’re on.

When I’ve been on three or four-night sailings in the Caribbean, I’ve rarely seen guests using the laundry rooms. If you need to do a quick load or touch up dress shirt, you’ll likely be able to do so right away.

When I’ve been on 7+ night sailings in Europe, competition for the laundry facilities is a full-contact sport. Most guests are from the U.S., which means that their travels in Europe are longer than a week (sometimes much longer) which means clothes will need to be washed and reworn, plus longer sailings are more likely to have semi-formal and formal nights that require pressed garments.

If you’re on a sailing of a week or longer, try to think about when less popular wash times will be. Afternoons on sea days are particularly popular – avoid those if you can.

What if I have laundry, but I don’t want to do it myself?

Disney Cruise Line also offers full service laundry.

There will be a fabric bag and a laundry order form inside your stateroom closet. If you don’t see it, just ask your stateroom attendant. (Be aware that if take the laundry bag home, DCL will charge you a $10.00 fee.)

How do I start the full-service laundry process.

Just tell your stateroom attendant or call guest services from your stateroom phone and they’ll send someone to pick it up.

How long does it take to get my laundry back if I send it out?

Almost always within 24-hours. Three-hour rush service is available for an upcharge.

How much does full-service laundry cost?

Basic items (tee shirts, pajamas, socks, jeans, underwear, etc.) cost between $1.50-4.00 per piece. This can add up quickly – it may be an option that you want to use sparingly.

Dry cleaning is also available. A suit costs $9.00 and an evening dress costs $10.00. (Compared to the price of dry cleaning near my home in New York, these rates are quite favorable.) While you may not a suit or dress cleaned onboard, it is common to need them pressed. Pressing is available at half the price of cleaning.

Anything else I should know?

In addition to retrieving your completed laundry in a timely manner, another important courtesy is to please keep talking to a minimum in the laundry area. The machines themselves are fairly quiet, or at least sound mostly like white noise, but I have heard guests with staterooms located near the laundry rooms complain about the noise from guests chatting outside their doors while waiting for their wash to be done. Please be considerate of your fellow travelers. (And when you’re selecting your stateroom, try to avoid those immediately adjacent to the laundry areas.)

Doing Laundry on Disney Cruise Line Ships

Chances are you’ve done your fair share of laundry. But have you ever done laundry on a cruise ship? It’s actually not as hard as you might think!

In this post, we’ll give you some tips on how to do laundry on a Disney cruise ship. So don’t worry, your clothes will stay clean and fresh during your trip. Depending on the length of your vacation, you may not need to take advantage of the full service or self-service Disney cruise laundry facilities onboard.

However, if you are sailing on longer cruises or traveling with a baby, you may be interested in learning more about the launderettes on the Disney Cruise Line ships.

In the article below, we will walk you through the process of doing your laundry on a Disney cruise while providing information on the onboard cost of using the self service machines.

Disney Cruise Laundry Rooms

Each of the Disney cruise ships provides laundry facilities onboard. If you are sailing on the Disney Magic or the Disney Wonder, you will find laundry locations on Decks 2, 6, and 7. For those cruising on the Disney Fantasy or the Disney Dream, Deck 2 and Decks 5-10 hold laundry rooms. And guests sailing on the Disney Wish will find one large launderette, called Fairytale Fresh Laundry , on Deck 8.

The laundry facilities are really easy to find. You can even use the Disney Cruise Navigator App to direct you. In addition to using the app to find where the laundry facilities are located, you can look at the deck plan hanging on the wall beside each stairwell. You can see in the photo above that the launderette is labeled on the deck plan, making it super easy to find.

Self Service Laundry

I have always found the process of doing laundry on a Disney cruise to be really simple and stress-free. The launderettes are easy to locate, and I have never found them to be very busy – even on a sea day.

When you enter the laundry facilities, you will find that Disney provides pretty much everything you would need to do laundry onboard the cruise ship. Some of the laundry amenities you will see include:

ironing boards

Some of these do come with a fee to use, but we will touch more on the cost of doing laundry on a Disney cruise ship a little later in this post. The laundry rooms feature signs with clear instructions to help guide you as to how to access each amenity.

Is there an iron on Disney cruise ships?

The self-service laundry facilities include free use of an iron and an ironing board.

Note that the irons must be used in the launderette, and you cannot remove them from this space. Cruise lines do not want irons in the staterooms as they could be a fire hazard.

Disney Cruise Laundry Cost

The price to do your laundry on a Disney cruise ship is actually super reasonable. You can use the screen provided in the launderette to choose the services and products you want to purchase.

Note that you are welcome to bring your own detergent, dryer sheets, etc. if you prefer. Just add them to your Disney Cruise Line packing list , and you won’t have to pay for them onboard.

There is no need to take cash or coins with you. Instead, you just swipe your Key to the World card to add the fee to your account. When you check your onboard account, you should see the payment you made in the laundry room.

After purchasing your laundry credits for a few dollars, you can choose an available washing machine to get started. Once your wash cycle has completed, you should receive a text message via the Disney Cruise Navigator App stating that you can move your things to a dryer.

This feature makes it so easy to continue enjoying your Disney Cruise Line vacation even while doing laundry! Rather than running to the self-service launderettes every time you think your wash or dry cycle is complete, you just go about your day as you normally would. Once you receive an alert, you can move your clothes out of the machine so that another guest may use it.

Full-Service Laundry Services

In addition to self-service laundry, Disney Cruise Line provides full-service laundry and dry cleaning. Although, the cost is significantly more than the self-service option. Inside your stateroom closet, you should see a provided bag and menu with a full-service price list.

If you choose to utilize the full-service option, you can notify your stateroom host or Guest Services of your laundry requests. The form is super easy to read and fill out. This is a great option for those families who don’t mind spending the extra money to NOT have to do laundry on their vacation.

Laundry Bag and Essentials

If you’re planning to do laundry on your Disney cruise and wondering what to pack, we’ve got you covered. These are the items I always make sure to bring on a Disney cruise to help keep our clothing fresh and organized!

Laundry Bag/ Hamper

I set up this small hamper in our stateroom to keep all of our dirty clothes in one spot. I actually use this hamper any time my family travels anywhere. We just pop it open and place it in a corner out of the way. My kids know to throw their dirty clothes inside whenever they get undressed. This keeps our room nice and organized on vacation. This hamper folds up flat so it takes up very little space in your luggage.

Packing Cubes

These packing cubes go with us no matter where we are traveling. They really are one of the best purchases I’ve ever made! Each member of the family has their own set in a different color. This way, I can easily find what I’m searching for without having to dig through several cubes. My toddler uses the pink set, so I know to go straight to the pink cubes when I’m looking for her items.

We also love how easy the packing cubes are to unpack. You just grab each cube out of your luggage and place it in a drawer or on a shelf. In the past, I would find rolled up clothes in the drawers that would end up needing an iron. The packing cubes prevent this because they keep all the items folded and the drawers tidy. They just really provide a great way to sort, organize, and store your clean clothing, so I can’t say enough great things about them!

Downy Wrinkle Releaser

We use this while traveling AND at home. You just spray it on your clothing and then tug to smooth out the wrinkles. Downy Wrinkle Releaser completely takes away the need for an iron. We take this travel sized version everywhere we go! Once it dries, your clothes are wrinkle free! It’s perfect for saving time and space on a Disney cruise.

Magnetic Hooks

We usually pack two to three swimsuits per person for a cruise. When swimwear is wet, I hang it on one of these hooks to dry. You can also hang hats, jackets, wet clothes, etc. from these durable hooks. Since the stateroom walls are magnetic, you can place one of these hooks on virtually any wall in your cabin.

Final Thoughts on Doing Laundry on a Disney Cruise

If you are planning a Disney cruise with a short itinerary, you may not need to use the onboard laundry facilities. However, those sailing on longer trips may find relief when planning outfits and packing clothes by knowing launderettes are available onboard.

Fairytale Fresh Laundry During Your Disney Cruise

You might be the type of person who wouldn’t so much as think about doing laundry during your Disney Cruise Line vacation, but if you have little ones in your traveling party – or even if you don’t – you already know that you need to be prepared for anything that might come your way, like tee shirts covered with Mickey Bar chocolate and the like.

While the Disney Wish only has one guest laundry facility on board, it is huge and quite luxurious looking if I do say so myself. It’s also conveniently located on Deck 8 Forward right near the elevators.

Obviously, everything is brand new and sparkling which is fantastic, but there is plenty of space to do anything you might need to do with regards to laundry such as ironing or even hand washing a delicate item. There is also Tide laundry soap and Snuggle fabric softener available for purchase.

On longer cruises, we bring a big laundry bag that we hang either in the closet or in the toilet/sink bathroom to keep everything neat and tidy in our stateroom . In my opinion, there is nothing worse than bringing home a suitcase full of dirty clothes that are not contained in their own bag.

Please let us know in the comments section if you might be so inclined to use this facility during your sailing on the Disney Wish.

Tip: Throw a couple of laundry pods into your suitcase in case you do decide to throw in a load. Also, it’s not a bad idea to carry a Tide stick for spot treatment on-the-go should any incidents happen in the dining rooms. Ahem.

Laundry Services

Disney is one of the few cruise lines that have DIY Laundry on their ships. You will find washers, dryers, and irons there. If doing Laundry on vacation is not your thing Disney does offer Laundry Service.

Take advantage of full-service laundry and dry cleaning, available with pickup directly from your stateroom, where you’ll find convenient laundry bags and forms. Please notify your Stateroom Host or Hostess or Guest Services by 9:00 AM for pickup and next-day return. Express Laundry Service is available at an extra charge.

The busiest spot on a Disney Cruise is the laundry room on Formal and Semi-Formal nights. Everyone is in the laundry room ironing their clothes. You can avoid the busiest time if you do like we have in the past and iron your clothes on the first day of the cruise. It is less busy but not the most exciting way to start your cruise. A better option is to send your clothes out to be pressed. The cost is 50% off the Dry Cleaning costs.

Regular service: Returned the next day at 5:30 p.m.
Same day service: Add 50% to the dry cleaning surcharge . Call Guest Services for pick up before 9 a.m., returned 5:30 p.m.
Express service: Add 100% express cleaning surcharge . Call Guest Services for pick up, returned in 3 hours.

If you choose to keep the DCI garment bag a fee of $10.00 will be charged to your stateroom.

The Wish is Disney’s newest cruise ship in 10 years!

There are so many amazing details and new experiences on the Wish, Disney really outdid themselves when designing this ship for Disney lovers, couples and families alike.

Note: Living by Disney was hosted by Disney Parks and Disney Cruise Line for the three-day Christening Cruise discussed in this article. All opinions and reviews provided are our honest feedback. We have our own cruise(s) booked as guests later this year and will update this review as needed.

Setting sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, the Disney Wish offers 3- and 4-night cruises to Nassau, Bahamas (Castaway Cay (pronounced “key”)), Disney’s own private island. The ship welcomes 4000 passengers on a voyage like no other on Disney’s “Castle on the Seas!”

This ship is so bold and so grand, there is truly so much to see and do. We’ll get into all of what the Wish has to offer, but if you are considering cruising on this beauty, I highly recommend the 4-night cruise. The media event I attended was a 3-night cruise and it just wasn’t enough time to see and do everything we wanted to. It felt very rushed to get to see most things, so I recommend staying that extra night. You will appreciate the extra time to explore. If you are looking for a longer cruise, I would suggest one of the other Disney ships that currently offer longer sailings.

As you step onboard the Wish, you will enter into the glittering and glistening Grand Hall – the cruise’s grand 3-deck atrium. The elegant space is inspired by the beauty of an enchanted fairytale, and on this ship, that fairytale is none other than Cinderella! At the base of the Grand Staircase, you’ll find a life size statue of Cinderella, and just behind her is her glass slipper. Lucifer, Gus Gus and even Jack are also on board and featured in the atrium. If you look up, the incredible chandelier sparkling and twinkling on the high ceiling actually represents Cinderella’s dress (upside down). It’s those amazing Disney details that sets them apart from all others (and that are sometimes overlooked) that create the magic.

Throughout the day and evening, the Grand Hall transforms into an immersive entertainment venue and Disney Character space. Meet Captain Minnie & Mickey, Goofy, Pluto and so many others. Don’t forget to look up at the balcony overlooking the Wish stage – you never know what Disney couple might appear!

What’s Included & Not Included During Your Cruise

As a first timer, I was so curious what would be included and not included on the ship.

For example, should you bring money? How much is appropriate? Turns out, it’s not really necessary. You may want to have a few dollar bills to tip the porters and such along the way. But once on the ship, you will use your Key to the Kingdom Card or simply your stateroom number for charges (if applicable). When “checking-in” online before your cruise, you will be asked to provide a credit card number for such services.

So, what else should you know… let’s dig into some of the basics that are included.

Your stateroom along with all applicable taxes and port fees
Breakfast, lunch and dinner (rotational dining – we’ll get into that in just a bit)
Soft drinks served at meals and at each ship’s beverage station
Snacks and ice cream throughout the ship
Disney Character Meet & Greets
Entertainment including live Broadway-style productions at the Walt Disney Theater as well as Disney movie classics and current first-run films at the Neverland and Wonderland theaters – when I sailed, the movie theaters were playing Lightyear among other films.

There are a few optional services and activities that do require an additional charge, including Port Adventures excursions, spa and salon services, babysitting in our ship’s nurseries, onboard photography service, phone calls, video games, alcoholic beverages, and the adults-only dining venues, Palo and Enchante. Note that gratuity is also included on most drink and dining bills. It’s usually 18%.

Accommodations & Staterooms

There are 1244 staterooms aboard the Wish, with a total of 4000 passengers.

Here is the breakdown:

If you are staying in one of the 76 Concierge Staterooms, here is what’s included:

Most staterooms feature king beds
Royal Suites sleep up to 6 Guests
Wish Tower Suite sleeps up to 8 Guests
Access to dedicated lounge on Deck 12
Private sun deck on Deck 13

There are 15 decks on the Wish. Each deck showcases two Princess themes, with the exception of the Concierge floor.

If you have two rooms with a connecting door, you will have one of each Princess represented on that floor.

Here are the theming details for each floor of the ship:

Cinderella and Frozen: deck 2, 6 and 7
Aurora and Tiana: deck 8, 9
Ariel and Moana: deck 10, 11
Rapunzel: Concierge decks

I stayed in a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah on deck 7. Our room number was 7156 and featured artwork from Frozen. Our neighbor’s theme was Cinderella. Super cute!!

Rotational Table Service Dining

There are 3 entirely NEW and incredible dining experiences included with your cruise. During your cruise, you will dine at each one and your servers even rotate with you so they get to know your group and dining preferences! It’s actually quite fabulous to sit down and have drinks, for example, placed on the table before you even ask! On night one, I asked my server for seltzer water, each night after that it was brought to me without even asking. That’s service! The crew will bring you absolutely anything you need or request. They are extremely accommodating and are there to make your dining experience the best it can be!

On the Disney Wish, you’ll dine at 1923 , Arendelle and Worlds of Marvel . Each one of these incredible restaurants offer such unique dining, every night will be completely new and different.

You can dress up for the evening and theme your outfit with the dining experience, but you don’t have to. Cruise casual is the dress code – anything from jeans, dress shorts, sandals, sundresses, etc. is acceptable.

Take a walk back in time as you enter 1923. Named for the year the Walt Disney Company was founded, this restaurant honors both Walt and Roy. There are two dining rooms – one named for each. In each room you’ll find hundreds of sketches, drawings and props celebrating animation throughout the years. The cuisine is inspired by Disney’s California heritage, highlighting the region’s unique blend of Asian, European and South American cuisine.

This dining experience is elegant and refined, but not over the top. It reminded me a lot of the Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios or Carthay Circle in California Adventure. It’s old world Hollywood at its finest!

Get ready to be blown away! This was by far my favorite of all three. If you are a lover of all things Frozen, then this is 100% for you. It’s time to celebrate Anna and Kristoff’s Royal Engagement, and we’ve all been invited to the party hosted by none other than Elsa and Olaf! Even Oaken is there, making his royal debut! And he is absolutely HILARIOUS! Yoo hoo!

As you enjoy a delicious Norwegian-inspired dinner, you are magically transported to the Kingdom of Arendelle for the Royal Celebration. Dance and sing along to all of your favorite Frozen songs. There is even an epic sing-along of Let It Go led by Kristoff and Oaken. It’s the duet you didn’t know you always wanted!

World of Marvel

Enter the world of Marvel – the ultimate superhero adventure! I don’t think you need to be a huge fan of Marvel to enjoy this show/dinner. But if you are, it will make it all the more awesome, and you will love this! Everything about this dining experience is immersive and interactive. Surrounded by PYM Tech, YOU play a role in the newest action-packed Avengers mission!! And you will even get a special surprise at the end – a visit from one of your favorite Marvel heroes!

The menu is inspired by a mix of real and fictional settings, such as African Wakanda, Eastern European Sokovia and NYC!

I personally thought the casual dining options aboard the Wish were fabulous! Inspired by Walt Disney’s early-childhood hometown of Marceline, Missouri, Marceline’s Market , serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Featuring 10 food stalls and a café-style beverage bar in the center, Marceline Market is styled as an old industrial loft converted into a bustling marketplace. Here you’ll find a wide variety of food offerings sure to satisfy every Guest. Salads, sandwiches, seafood, soups, hot and cold meals, dessert, anything you are looking for Marceline will for sure have it. The food is excellent, I did not have one bad or mediocre meal. Honestly, I could have eaten every meal here.

Out and about on the upper decks? Stop by Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods for lunch, dinner or a snack! Grab a quick bite and enjoy the ocean view. Serving BBQ, burgers, chicken fingers, fries, tacos and more! I thought the food was really great here – it’s quick-service so it’s nothing fancy. But it’s good and fresh and will satisfy your hunger!

Marceline’s Market and Mickey & Friends Festival of Foods is included with the price of your cruise.

Want some dessert? Head to Joyful Sweets, appropriately themed after the Pixar film Inside Out , for a scoop of homemade gelato, ice cream, candy or a tasty sweet treat! Most options are included, but there are a few more decadent options that will cost extra.

There are two adult dining options aboard the Wish – Palo Steakhouse and Enchante by Chef Arnaud Lallement . Both exclusive restaurants are absolutely beautiful, with spectacular ocean views. Each themed after Beauty and the Beast; Palo is inspired by Cogsworth and Enchante by Lumiere. But, they are also extremely pricey. Be prepared to spend a premium dollar to dine at either of these options. Reservations are required.

However, it is nice to have the option to dine without the littles. While the kiddies are enjoying themselves in the Oceaneer Club (included in your cruise fare), the adults can be wined and dined.

It’s time to sit back and relax! And there are quite a few options on the Wish to do just that. Looking for a great cocktail to enjoy while you relax? Visit Nightingale’s just off the Grand Hall, the ship’s sophisticated piano bar, inspired by Cinderella singing “Sing Sweet Nightingale” from the classic animation. This lounge has the most incredible and different cocktails, unlike anything you’ve ever had. You can’t go wrong with anything you choose. It’s feels upscale, yet completely relaxing and comfortable. I loved it, and can’t wait to visit again on my next sailing.

Looking for something a little more upbeat? I suggest The Bayou or Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge ! Each with their own unique vibe, they offer amazing themed cocktails and a great, fun (and louder) atmosphere.

Star Wars: Hyperspace Lounge is extremely popular. When I sailed, they were controlling how many Guests could enter at one time. You put your name on the list and awaited your turn. But, once inside it is awesome! The music, the drinks, the environment. Be sure to pay attention to the views behind the bar – you will hyperdrive into space and hang out in the galaxy for a while. It’s pretty cool!

If you want a cold beer and a bit more of the pub feel, Keg & Compass is the place for you! Inspired by the sea, look for the nautical and hidden mickey details once inside the bar. And finally, if an adult only experience is what you are seeking, visit The Rose . An elegant lounge dipped in the beautiful fairytale of Beauty and the Beast. It’s pure sophistication and grace.

Disney is first class when it comes to experiences and entertainment. They never disappoint! And what is offered on the cruise is no exception, there is something for everyone. Movies, sports, games, theater-style performances and the all-new, first of its kind, AquaMouse attraction will keep you busy all day long! There are several movie theaters ( Wonderland and Neverland ), the Walt Disney Theater that houses live performances that rival broadway, and so much more!

The cruise ship also offers the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, located on deck 4 off the Grand Hall! Your little Prince or Princess will love being pampered and adorned! This shop offers similar packages to other locations on other Disney cruises and in the parks.

If you are cruising with little ones, this ship has the coolest space created specifically for kids, ages 3 and up. As a matter of fact, adults are not allowed. The Oceaneer Club has five different, highly interactive themed spaces your kids will adore. Trust me, once they see what is in front of them, they won’t miss their parents while they wine and dine on the ship! Star Wars, Fairy Tales, Imagineering, Marvel and Mickey and Minnie’s Captain’s Deck are the areas created for the little ones to create their own adventures! They will have a blast!

The Oceaneer Club is included in your cruise fare.

If you have babies 6 months to 3 years old, you may consider using the “ it’s a small world ” nursery . They will be in very safe hands with the specially trained Disney Youth Counselors to care for them. Hourly rates do apply, and are not included in cruise fare.

Got teens? They need their own space too! The Hideaway , Edge , and Vibe are their hot spots aboard the ship. These spaces are specifically for teens where they can hang out, make friends and play games. They’ll love the freedom to be able to do their own thing!

I would be remiss not to mention the amazing areas on the ship geared toward health and wellness. After all, it’s one of the reasons we go on vacation, right? The incredible Senses Spa and Fitness Center offers state of the art equipment and spa treatments, complete with a rainforest room and ice room. It’s pretty spectacular, the ultimate zen! Need a haircut or pedicure while on board? The Untangled Salon and Hook’s Barbery will fit the bill. These two very uniquely themed spaces will make you feel like a Prince and Princess!

And if you are looking for some quiet time by the pool, Quiet Cove and Cove Cafe offer adults only spaces to get away and enjoy some peace of mind for a bit. Visit the cafe for specialty drinks, coffee, teas and desserts or the poolside lounge/bar while enjoying the luxurious infinity pool.

While there is usually nothing particularly fun about laundry, I will say visiting the Fairytale Fresh Laundry room aboard the ship was an awesome experience. It is bright, big and charming. There are so many little details throughout the space, but more importantly, it’s huge! It has 26 washers, 30 dryers, and about 16 ironing boards/irons. Located on deck 8, mid ship, it is central to all the staterooms. Note this is the only laundry room on the ship. And because you can’t have irons in the rooms, you will need to visit the laundry room if you need to iron any of your clothes. I tried it and had no issues. It was a lovely space to visit!

Whatever your fancy and whatever your goal for taking a cruise on the Disney Wish, you’ll find it here. There is literally something for everyone. I cannot wait to plan another trip aboard this incredibly beautiful and grand ship. There is so much to see and do. I can guarantee you, you will love it as much as I did, if not more!

Onboard Services – Frequently Asked Questions

Is there laundry service on board my ship?

Yes, we’re here to help you keep your clothes clean and pressed during your cruise. For an additional fee, full-service laundry and dry-cleaning services will pick up and deliver right to your stateroom. Charges will be applied to your stateroom folio.

You’ll also find 24-hour, self-service Guest laundry facilities equipped with washers and dryers, along with detergent and complimentary ironing equipment. No coins are needed―pay using your Key to the World card.

For safety reasons, the irons may be used only in the laundry room. Please note that personal irons are prohibited and cannot be brought aboard.

Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise: The Major Differences

I f you’ve been a frequent reader here, you know that I am an avid cruiser on the Disney Cruise Line. I love their beautiful ships and fantastic service and have been happy on every single sailing I’ve done. We’ve reviewed all of their ships here and we’ve always had a positive experience.

However, this past winter break, my family sailed on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and also really loved it. Many people have asked for a Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise comparison so they can choose the best option for their family.

We have loved our experience on both cruise lines, and I plan to travel on both in the future. But there are some discrete differences that are good to know, and you are likely to have a different experience on each line. Both are great for a family vacation, and both are great cruise lines for young adults and teens.

Royal Caribbean vs. Disney Cruise: The Most Major Differences

There are currently five Disney Cruise ships in service, with an additional ship, the Disney Wish, which began its inaugural season in 2022. These five cruise ships are in three different classes- with the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder being the two smaller ships and the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy being the larger two ships.

The Disney Wish is a new class – the Triton class. An additional two ships in the same class as the Disney Wish have been ordered for the future.

Royal Caribbean has twenty-seven ships in service, with more announced (including three in the new Icon class). There are several different classes – including the Oasis, Freedom, Quantum, Radiance, Voyager, and Vision Classes.

Because of the larger number of Royal Caribbean ships, you are likely to find an itinerary with ports of call that work for your busy schedule. Royal Caribbean sails in many places that Disney Cruise Line doesn’t, including ports in Asia.

With the smaller number of ships and classes on the Disney Cruise Line, there is a sense of familiarity when sailing. Every time I step onto a DCL ship, I feel comfortable, almost like going home.

On the other hand, Royal Caribbean ships, with their large fleet, vary by class and have exciting, active entrances. I don’t feel the sentimentality but do get excited to explore the ship. There are some similarities among the ships but also many differences.

For many families, this is the most important factor. Cruises can be expensive. In general, I’ve found that the base rate on the Disney Cruise Line tends to be higher than a similar-length cruise on Royal Caribbean.

However, you’ll want to look at the inclusions. Some things are included in the Disney Cruise Line that isn’t included in Royal Caribbean . These include soft drinks and room service fees (for delivery of everything except for continental breakfast).

Drink Packages

Both cruise lines offer complimentary basic beverages, including tap water, coffee and tea (excluding premium coffee), and standard juices. Other beverages are available a la carte, and each cruise line has different beverage purchase options.

On Royal Caribbean, there are several beverage packages available for purchase in advance or once you are on board (you can usually save money by purchasing in advance). The options include the Deluxe Beverage Package, the Refreshment Package, and the Soda Package. Drinks at the Starbucks locations on the ships (for those with a Starbucks) are not included in any of the packages.

Disney Cruise Line doesn’t have a package that includes all alcoholic drinks. They do, however, offer standard and premium wine packages .

Beer packages are also offered. They also have an alcoholic and nonalcoholic drink of the day which is offered at a lower price.

Keep in mind that soft drinks are included in a Disney Cruise, so you won’t have to pay separately for these. Premium coffees are also offered on Disney Cruise Line for an additional fee.

Both cruise lines have plenty of activities to keep you busy while you are at sea. The activities that you’ll experience on these lines vary, however.

The Disney Cruise Line ships have lots of Disney magic, as you’d expect. You’ll see Disney characters, Disney entertainment, and Disney movies.

There are also fun deck activities, including pools, a splash area for young kids, a play area, water slides, hot tubs, a sports deck (with a basketball court), and outdoor movies.

If you are sailing on Disney Magic, you’ll get an opportunity to ride the AquaDunk, while the Disney Dream and Fantasy offer the AquaDuck. The Disney Wish offers a new attraction called the AquaMouse.

Royal Caribbean ships are filled with fun activities, but these vary by ship. For instance, on the Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas , different experiences include an iFly, a climbing wall, a FlowRider, a North Star observation capsule, and bumper cars.

On the Wonder of the Seas , you’ll see a FlowRider, two rock walls, a carousel, Ultimate Abyss slides, mini golf, zip lining, ice skating, and a sports deck. Be sure to check the specific activities on the ship you are booking because they do vary.

If you are interested in gaming, both cruise lines offer bingo. However, the Disney Cruise Line ships do not offer casinos, while the Royal Caribbean ships do.

Entertainment

All of the cruise ship entertainment that I’ve seen on both cruise lines has always been top-notch. Disney Cruise Line offers Broadway-style musicals in the Walt Disney Theater. On longer sailings, there are often other entertainers, like magicians and ventriloquists, who perform there.

You can also see first-run movies from Disney-owned studios in the onboard theater. Singers and other musicians perform at various venues across the ships, throughout the day.

There are also other entertainment options on the Disney Cruise Line ships, including animation classes, trivia, game shows, and more. The schedule for these can be found in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.

Royal Caribbean also boasts fantastic onboard entertainment. Their shows showcase wonderful talent but aren’t specifically family-friendly.

They also have some very unique venues, including an ice-skating rink, an aqua theater, and smaller theaters like Two70. Keep in mind that these venues do vary by ship. Like on DCL, performers can be seen in bars and other venues throughout the day.

They also offer karaoke, game shows, trivia, laser tag, and other programming each day. There’s no lack of entertainment. I’ve found that the shows on Royal Caribbean are especially unique, innovative, and enjoyable, and often have great special effects.

Restaurants

Disney Cruise Line offers rotational dining. Each night, you’ll visit a different restaurant of the three options, and your serving team travels with you.

I’ve always loved this because you never get tired of the restaurant, and it’s great to have the same team traveling with you, especially if you have dietary restrictions. The restaurants are heavily themed, often with entertainment and typical Disney magic. For longer cruises, you’ll visit the same restaurants again, in the same rotation.

There are two premium restaurant options on the Disney ships. Remy and Palo are adult-only restaurants that are available on the Disney Fantasy and the Disney Dream , while the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder only offer Palo. The Disney Wish has Palo and a new restaurant called Enchante. These are offered for an additional fee.

In addition to the dining rooms and restaurants, there are lots of quick-service options available throughout the ships. Complimentary room service is also available.

Royal Caribbean typically offers one main dining room, although some ships have two. There are two seatings, as well as “My Time Dining”. You’ll have the same servers in the main dining room throughout the cruise.

Unlike DCL, Royal Caribbean ships offer many specialty restaurants that are not included in your cruise fare. These specialty restaurants include varied options such as Johnny Rockets, Izumi Sushi and Tepanyaki, Chops Grille, and Hooked Seafood (they vary by ship) and they can be a great add-on to your cruise.

Themed Cruises

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line offers themed cruises throughout the year. These can make your cruise experience even more exciting, with special events, decor, and characters. Some of these included:

Halloween on the High Seas
Marvel Day at Sea
Pixar Day at Sea
Very Merrytime Cruise

If your cruise is one of these special-themed cruises, it will be clearly labeled when you book.

Laundry Facilities

I generally don’t like to do chores on my family vacations, but sometimes I do have to wash clothes. Disney Cruise Line has several self-service laundry facilities onboard.

There is an additional fee for using them, but they are very easy to use and you’ll get an alert on your app when the machine stops.

Royal Caribbean doesn’t have any self-service facilities. However, there is a full-service laundry option if you need clothes to be cleaned during your trip. Sometimes, there is a promotion where you’ll receive a bag in your stateroom, and everything that fits in the bag is washed for one flat fee.

Private Islands

A private island or island resort can be one of the best cruise ship excursions. Both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line offer these experiences.

Disney Cruise Line’s Caribbean and Bahamian itineraries typically stop once at Disney’s Castaway Cay, a private island in the Bahamas. Castaway Cay is stunningly beautiful, with excursions, character interactions, beaches, a kids’ club area, and much more.

It’s usually my favorite stop on the Disney Cruise Line. There’s a new private destination in the works, also in the Bahamas.

Royal Caribbean has two private island/resort areas with more on the way. Perfect Day at CocoCay is a newly-renovated Bahamian Island offering a water park, hot air balloon, private beach club, excursions, and more. It has something for everyone, and after several trips, there are still so many things I haven’t explored there.

In addition to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean also has a private resort area in Labadee , Haiti. Labadee offers an inflatable water park, an alpine mountain coaster, an overwater zip line, along with beautiful beaches. Both of these private properties are offered on select, but not all sailings in the Caribbean.

Kids’ Clubs

If you are traveling with children, kids’ clubs may be a big part of your cruise ship experience. Both cruise lines offer kids’ clubs with great programming.

On Royal Caribbean, ships offer the Adventure Ocean Club – which is split into babies, juniors, and kids. The Adventure Ocean Club is free and offers “edutainment” programming for younger kids, including talent shows, art programming, science projects, and much more. There’s also an area dedicated specifically to teens.

The Disney Cruise Line offers the Oceaneer Club and Lab. These innovative kids clubs have some fantastic theming and activities, including Star Wars and Toy Story-themed areas.

Kids have so many different areas to play in. Disney Cruise Line also offers dedicated teen and tween clubs along with their youth clubs.

Both Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line offer paid WiFi access. Royal Caribbean has two levels of internet access- a standard and one that allows steaming and is paid by the day.

Disney’s internet access has changed from a data-based fee to a flat fee. There are several tiers of Disney Cruise Line WiFi offered .

Both cruise lines offer apps that are free to use while on the ships. Disney’s app allows for free messaging to others on the ship, while Royal Caribbean charges a nominal fee for that service (although they’ve recently been waiving that fee). Disney Cruise Line also offers complimentary iMessage access for all guests on the ships.
