Rucker will make a stop in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, on August 3 and host a two-night stay in Durant, Oklahoma, on September 8 and 9 before bringing the tour to a close in Nashville at Ascend Amphitheater on October 14.

The album is named in honor of his mother, Carolyn, who was a nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina when he was growing up. She passed away in 1992 when Rucker was 26.

“I wanted to name the record  Carolyn’s Boy  because Mom never got to see any of my success,” Rucker shared in a 2022 interview with TODAY . “She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known.”

Rucker will reunite with his Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates for the second annual HootieFest: The Big Splash in Mexico in April, which also features performances by Goo Goo Dolls, Barenaked Ladies, Gin Blossoms and more. Darius Rucker 'Gets to See the World' as He Embarks on His 'Starting Fires' Tour (Exclusive)

The country singer-songwriter tells PEOPLE about making the most of life on the road and the importance of giving back

darius rucker starting fires tour playlist

Darius Rucker is spending his summer on the road.

The 57-year-old country singer has just embarked on his Starting Fires Tour , and while he is looking forward to all of the shows he's got planned in the next four months, Rucker is especially excited about his return to Chicago next month.

" Windy City Smokeout is just a flat-out party," Rucker tells PEOPLE about the Chicago-based music festival. "I like to go around there and eat barbecue and then hang out with people during the day before my show just because it's such a fun festival. And Chicago is such a great city, and the festival is a blast."

A self-proclaimed "barbecue guy," Rucker looks forward to the food the Windy City Smokeout offers. "For me, it's coming down and getting some pulled brisket and applying the different sauces. I'm a sauce guy, so the mustard base, tomato base, and the vinegar base, all that stuff, I love to try all of it," the "Wagon Wheel" singer says.

Before starting his tour, Rucker put on his 14th annual Darius & Friends concert, which raised more than $500,000 dollars for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

“I'll tell you, it was a blast,” the country singer says. “We had Jelly Roll and HARDY and Megan Moroney and Vince Gill and Jake Owen . It was just a bunch of really great artists that came out and we raised a lot of money. And anytime you can raise money for a good cause like St. Jude's it's a positive.”

When asked why raising money for St. Jude is so important to him, Rucker told PEOPLE, "Knowing that they do all this work and nobody ever gets a bill, they put people up and feed the families and that's expensive. And when I went and visited there, I just wanted to do something to help them a little bit, and so I started Darius & Friends."

Whether it be Windy City Smokeout, Darius & Friends or the Starting Fires Tour, Rucker is a well-versed performer. Beyond all of the time he has spent on stage, Rucker has also attended many other artists' performances, with one being his clear favorite.

"he best show I ever saw was the Ramones at The Bayou in Washington D.C.," the dad of three ( including two recent graduates! ) tells PEOPLE. "It was perfect. It was two-and-a-half minute rock songs playback, it was just the best show I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of people. I've never been more entertained than that."

While Rucker will be busy on the road for the next few months, he will be making the most of it, and trying something new in each city he visits: "The best part of doing our job is that you get to see the world, and I always say go see something. Be a tourist. Look around."

Rucker was inducted as a Grand Ole Opry member in 2012 and in 2014 he won his third career GRAMMY Award for Best Solo Country Performance with his Diamond-certified (11x Platinum) version of  “Wagon Wheel,” one of the top five best-selling Country songs of all time. He co-hosted the 54th annual CMA Awards in 2020 and topped the charts at Country radio once again with “Beers And Sunshine” in 2021. New songs “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Ol’ Church Hymn” (featuring Chapel Hart) are available everywhere now as Rucker puts the finishing touches on his forthcoming album,  Carolyn’s Boy .

About Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors There are no strangers at a Drew Holcomb show. For the better part of two decades, the award-winning songwriter has brought his audience together night after night, turning his shows into celebrations of community, collaboration, and contemporary American roots music.  Strangers No More , the ninth album from Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, celebrates that sense of togetherness. Produced by Cason Cooley, it expands the band’s mix of timeless songwriting, modern-day Laurel Canyon folk, amplified Americana, and heartland rock & roll. “All The Money in the World,” with its deep-pocketed groove that showcases The Neighbors’ musicality, is punctuated by blasts of brass, marking the band’s first song to feature horns. “That’s On You, That’s On Me” makes room for barrelhouse piano, slide guitar, and the greasy grit of a juke joint rock band. “On a Roll” and “Possibility” are Springsteen-sized rock & roll melodramas that wail and exalt, their cinematic arrangements built for the large rooms that Holcomb regularly plays these days. “Fly” is a reflective, finger-plucked folksong. Finally, there’s “Dance With Everybody,” a lively tribute to the live show that brims with a joyful optimism — a feeling that was often missing during the band’s earlier years, when their shows weren’t nearly as packed. Song by song,  Strangers No More  offers an all-encompassing view not only of the places Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors have been, but where they’re headed next, too. It’s an invitation into the band’s world. Strangers no more, indeed.

Green’s debut seven-song collection yielded the streaming successes “She Got That” and “Little More Be Alright.” His subsequent EP included the title track, “Dirt Boy,” and four additional tracks.
