The classic cinque terre tour
3 nights/4 days, from €2190,00 p.p., all skill levels, moderate walking involved, 5 persons max., all year round, workshop itinerary.
– Digital Camera (preferably a DSLR or mirrorless camera, APS-C, micro 4/3 and FF will be more than fine); – An ultrawide lens (e.g. Nikon 14-24mm, Canon 16-35mm, Tamron 15-30mm, Tokina 16-28mm etc); we recommend a lens with a wide maximum aperture (like f/2.8) in case we might do some night photography.
– A standard zoom lens (e.g. Nikon/Canon/Sigma 24-70mm or 24-105mm);
– A telephoto zoom lens (e.g. various Nikon/Canon/Tamron/Sigma 70-200mm);
– A super telephoto zoom lens (e.g. Sigma/Tamron 150-600mm); this lens is not necessary but we recommend it anyway since it allows to capture the far away details of the landscapes;
– A sturdy tripod that permits to do some long exposure photos, specially at twilight;
– A set of ND filters; these are the only filters we feel to recommend, since they become useful when you need to stretch the exposure time a little bit during some difficult light conditions;
– A camera remote to avoid blurry shots.

My apartment was 3 minutes walk from the train station so an ideal base and much cheaper and less busy than Cinque Terre. I hiked from Monterossa to Corniglia one day and Riomaggiore to Corniglia another day. The hikes can be a bit tough if you are not used to walking up hill, especially the Riomaggior to Manarola as it is a steep uphill slog, and then straight down the other side. This hike only takes about an hour but it is quite steep, so a good level of fitness is required. I also took a bus to Portovenere and then a ferry to Palmaria Island. The hike around here is around 6km and the views are amazing. It is much quieter than the Cinque Terre paths and I would highly recommend this hike. Read more Written April 28, 2024

Table des matières
Riomaggiore – Manarola – Corniglia – Vernazza – Monterosso Al Mare

- lynnee46 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Hiking Cinque Terre and Palmaria Island I spent 5 nights in La Spezia as a base for hiking in Cinque Terre and the surrounding areas. Read more Written 28 April 2024

Itineraries
Arrival in rome.
Meet and greet with our representative at the Rome Airport and transfer to your hotel. Welcome to Rome! The Eternal City. One of the world’s most romantic and charismatic cities. Something that cannot easily be forgotten. When you visit, take the time to absorb everything. Understand its dialect, master the heavy and disorganized car traffic, learn how to choose the best trattoria for tonnarelli carbonara. Then you are a true Roman. "Fully immerse yourself in its elegance, surrounded by an always present sound in the background - a chaotic symphony. It wouldn't be Rome without it. Rome for ever existed, and it will always be Rome" -- Antonio
EXPLORE ROME - CHOOSE YOUR EXCURSION
Breakfast at your hotel. We have many excursions for you to pick and choose according to your taste. The most requested is the Vatican: meet our local Vatican expert for a tour of the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica (skip-the-line tickets included). In the afternoon, explore Rome on your own: you can enjoy a walk through the small streets, watch locals interact at a coffee shop, or visit one of the hundreds of churches (you can find one at every corner!). All our private itineraries include a list of our favorite places to enjoy a nice, authentic Roman dinner.
ROME AT YOUR LEISURE - WHEN IN ROME...
Time to explore on your own or to take another of our suggested excursions (the Colosseo and Roman Forum, a food tour, a pizza making class,...). Or simply follow the suggestion of our Antonio and ... be a true Roman for a day!
FROM ROME TO POMPEII TO SORRENTO
After breakfast and check-out, meet our private driver at the hotel lobby and transfer to the train station. A high-speed train ride will bring you to Naples, where another driver from our team will be waiting for you. Transfer to your hotel in Sorrento, the western gate of the Amalfi coast. Stop on-route to the ancient ash city of Pompeii and tour the site with our professional local guide. An entertaining, learning opportunity that will be appreciated by all your travel mates, any age.
EXPLORE THE AMALFI COAST: AMALFI, POSITANO, RAVELLO
Enjoy a ride along the Amalfi Drive, one of the most spectacular coasts of Europe, also called “The Divine Coast” for the spectacular scenery it offers. The plunging cliffs and the craggy rocks eroded by the sea and the wind create stunning views along the entire coast. Stop for a view of Positano from above, with the majolica-tiled dome of its Cathedral and its houses clinging to the sides of the coast; drive through Praiano; have a glimpse at Furore’s fjord and at the tower of Conca de’ Marini and then stop in Amalfi. Saunter over its bustling center and admire St Andrew Cathedral's magnificent façade, while deciding which one of the many tantalizing shops and cafés you will enter next. After some time at leisure, head for Ravello, a peaceful village perched atop the cliffs overlooking Amalfi which inspired artists from all over the world, like Richard Wagner and Gore Vidal, to name but two.
THE ISLAND OF CAPRI
A day out exploring the gem of the Mediterranean Sea with its incredible landscapes sculpted by the waves and the wind. Meet your guide and board the fast jetfoil to Capri. Once at Marina Grande, follow your guide for a tour of the island by minibus. The drive, among gardens and Mediterranean scrub, takes you to Anacapri, a hamlet perched on the slopes of Mt Solaro. Your guide will be happy to provide you with suggestion on how to spend some free time before returning to your boat. But Capri would not be the same without a visit to the Blue Grotto, the absolute symbol of the island. So, weather permitting, get ready to board a rowing boat - and to quickly lean back when entering the unsuspected crevice in the cliff that leads into the incomparable blue of the grotto.
FROM SORRENTO TO FLORENCE. CRADLE OF THE RENAISSANCE
After breakfast and check out, meet your private driver at the hotel lobby and transfer to the train station. Board the high-speed train to Florence. About 3 hour ride. With less than 400,000 habitants, the city of Florence is located between the river Arno and the Appennini mountains. Florence is the capital of Tuscany and it is a must see for art and architecture lovers. We always refer to it as an "open-air" museum. There is a piece of art at every corner, as well as beautiful markets, leather shops, coffee shops and restaurants. Meet our expert local guide and spend 3 hours discovering and learning about this magnificent city, known as the cradle of the Renaissance. A visit to the famous Galleria dell'Accademia with the original statue of the David of Michelangelo is included.
BEAUTIES OF TUSCANY COUNTRYSIDE
Today, your local private driver will be happy to show you the best of the Tuscany countryside. The area situated between Florence, Siena and Arezzo is synonym with gorgeous landscape, lavish food and wine, all of which contribute to create the distinctive character of the region. Greve in Chianti is the gate to the region. It is a little village coiled around a medieval square. Once you arrive here, your driving escort will be delighted to give you all the directions you need to explore on your own this lovely place. Cured meat, extra virgin olive oil and cheese are the flagships of this region, and the pecorino cheese you can taste at the farm you will be stopping next is unrivaled. The farm was established in the Seventies, and their wine and olive oil became rapidly known as some of the best in the region. After an extensive visit of the premises, you will enjoy a selection of their cheese the Tuscan way, that is accompanied by home made honey and Tuscan bread, paired with three different wines. The tour will then continue to a "Badia", a typical Tuscan estate around its medieval fortified abbey where you will sample some of the best red wines of Italy.
CINQUE TERRE: FIVE FISHING VILLAGES ON THE SEA-CLIFFS OF LIGURIA
The Cinque Terre is a beautiful stretch of rugged coast and encompasses five ("cinque") hamlets embedded between the ligurian mountains and the sea. The Cinque Terre was inaccessible from the land for centuries, isolated by steep mountains on one side and by the sea itself on the other. Thanks to all this it became a National Park and then a World Heritage Site. Due to the conformation of the area and to the need to preserve it, motor vehicles are not allowed in the center of the villages; once you leave yours in Manarola, your driving escort will accompany you by train, the most effective way to move around, giving you basic information and directions on how to explore the tiny, colorful alleys and the little fishermen harbors. If the landscape of the Cinqueterre is gorgeous like few others in Italy, the same can be said for local food, as you will realize while enjoying a light lunch in one of Monterosso’s restaurants. Once your time in Monterosso is over, meet your driver and get back to Manarola, where you will board your vehicle and head for Florence.
FROM FLORENCE TO VENICE
Time to enjoy a morning at leisure in Florence. Explore the local leather market or the specialty food market where you will find many local cheeses, salame, truffles and more. In the afternoon transfer to the train station and board the high-speed train to Venice. Upon arrival, our assistant will escort you outside the station to the right dock where your private boat is waiting to transfer you to your hotel. A great way to be introduced to Venice laguna and unique network of canals and small bridges.
VENICE, PURE ROMANCE
We can design your time in Venice according to your taste. We recommend an introduction walking tour with our local guide in the morning and the afternoon at leisure. You can take a boat trip to the islands of Murano and Burano, or immerse in the city's labyrinth of narrow streets and find the hidden bàcari – tiny neighbourhood bars that serve up some of the city's tastiest food bites (cicchetti) and wine. In your final itinerary you will find our suggestions (to get away from the millions of tourists!) as well as our best restaurants where to spend the last evening in Venice.
DEPARTURE DAY
After breakfast and check out, meet your assistant and skipper for a private boat transfer to the airport.

Tuscany & the Cinque Terre Cultural Walking Tour

Drinking in the sunset and the Chianti at our friend Marco's farmhouse, we decided that a Tuscany walking tour couldn't be improved upon. Since he's a staunch Tuscan, he surprised us by saying, "Then you've never been to the Cinque Terre." So we went. They're not far, these five once almost unreachable villages that grow out of rock along the Ligurian Sea. For centuries, a connecting footpath was their lifeline, but for us it's the scenic route into a remote and vibrant coastal culture. Beforehand, we spend three nights in the parts of Tuscany we love best…complete with hilltowns that rise out of silver-green olive groves, homemade prosciutto and potato ravioli and the sunny vineyards of Chianti. Throughout, we'll explore the art history, and savor the food and wine. But in the end, will you prefer walking tours in Tuscany or the Cinque Terre? The good news is that because this trip gives you both, you don't have to decide.
• Gather in Florence, where a short journey into Chianti leads to a private visit and tasting at one of the famed wineries, followed by a scenic walk to our hotel, a historic villa that dates to the 16th century and is owned by a count and countess.
• Walk past silvery olive groves to visit a shepherd who shows how he makes sheep's-milk cheeses…and a chance to sample some of the traditional specialties.
• Follow a footpath in the lovely Chianti hills, to a vineyard walk that ends with a home-cooked lunch and wine-tasting in the private cellars of Castello della Paneretta.
• Spot San Gimignano, fortified with more than a dozen medieval towers, shimmering in the near distance as we approach along a rural footpath.
• Journey along the Apuane mountains to Santa Margherita, where our hotel overlooks the Ligurian Sea.
• Walk to the colorful, isolated villages of the Cinque Terre — Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Rio Maggiore — with time out for shopping or a picnic. (Or skip the walking, and take a little coastal train that runs between the villages.)
• Explore the tiny monastery of San Fruttuoso reachable only by foot or boat after visiting iconic Portofino.
• Cap off an evening in Florence with a memorable dinner at our favorite trattoria, where in one meal we enjoy the whole tapestry of Tuscan cuisine.
• Skip the lines to see Michelangelo's David as part of a guided walk in Florence that provides an insider's view of the famed Renaissance city.
• Wandering the ancient streets to see and learn about Brunelleschi's incredible dome, the Ponte Vecchio, and Piazza della Signoria.
• Graze through San Lorenzo, the Florentine's main market, with its pyramids of produce, olives, breads, meats and more.
