In 2016, BLACKPINK took its first steps toward K-pop greatness. Thanks to YG Entertainment, members Kim Jisoo, Jennie Kim, Roseanne Park, and Lalisa Manobal joined together to create what would become one of the most popular girl groups in South Korean music.

BLACKPINK’s talents in hip-hop and dance-pop helped the all-female squad get ahead early.

BLACKPINK kicked things off with its album Square One. Featuring songs “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” Square One reinvented typical K-pop elements with an edgier trap-style energy. Eventually, this would become BLACKPINK’s signature sound.

“Whistle” and “Boombayah” left lasting impressions not only in South Korea, but in the U.S. as well. Following its swift climb up the charts, BLACKPINK released Square Two in late 2016. Square Two was a massive success thanks to the tracks “Playing with Fire” and “Stay.” Soon enough, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to land on the Canadian music charts.

The group’s next single “As If It’s Your Last” hit the airwaves in 2017 and paved the way for a stellar Japanese debut. The group’s self-titled EP included re-recorded Japanese versions of previous songs. After soaring to the top of Japan’s charts, the group followed up in 2018 with Re:BLACKPINK, a re-release of the EP which included both Korean- and Japanese-language versions of each track.

BLACKPINK’s rise took the ultimate turn with its 2018 EP Square Up. International hit single “DDU-DU DDU-DU” was the perfect example of high-energy “K-trap.” The song’s accompanying music video became one of the most-watched K-pop videos on YouTube, with over one billion views. It was no surprise the track also landed BLACKPINK a coveted spot on the Billboard Hot 100, a first for any all-female K-pop group.

The band’s worldwide popularity shifted as they sealed a deal with Interscope/Universal. Later in 2018, a highly-anticipated collaboration alongside popstar and label partner Dua Lipa on “Kiss and Make Up” set BLACKPINK up for more global success. After the song left a memorable mark on the U.S. and U.K. charts, the girl group released another Japanese-language compilation titled BLACKPINK in Your Area.

In 2019, the K-pop quartet expanded its discography with another top-notch EP. Kill This Love set the tone for the band’s upcoming worldwide debut. BLACKPINK’s next single “How You Like That” was its seventh track to climb high on the global charts, proving the band was an international force to be reckoned with.

In addition to Dua Lipa, the group worked closely with pop phenoms like Lady Gaga on “Sour Candy” and Selena Gomez on “Ice Cream.” By securing these collabs, the K-pop band set the standard for their full-length debut.

Due to long-lasting success, BLACKPINK embarked on numerous tours. A string of arena performances from 2018 to 2020 spanned across the globe and kept the band’s popularity at an all-time high. Dedicated fans saw the all-female quartet up close and personal as it put on a must-see show.

2020’s The Album was BLACKPINK’s first full-length studio album, with eight high-energy tracks – including “Bet You Wanna,” featuring rapper Cardi B. With this collaboration and more dance-pop vibes, The Album cemented next-level acclaim among fans and fellow musicians. The LP took well-deserved top spots in countries like South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.

BLACKPINK’s sophomore album Born Pink took the world by storm in 2022. No one could deny its power, especially after the release of lead single “Pink Venom.” Other favorites like “Shut Down” helped Born Pink set more records for the K-pop genre. In its first week, the LP hit number one in the U.S.

Live reviews

The concert was more than I ever imagined! I love the group, I love the girls, I love the songs and dances!!! The experience was unforgettable beacuse I enjoy listening to their music nonstop and now i saw and heard all songs live! I am so lucky!

But my experience before the concert was a disaster... The thibgs started with the endless queue for merchedinse. I waited for two hours and in the end they told me the lightsticks were sold out? That was so disappointing for me and all people in the queue. Also, yes it was long queue but there were not ever a barricades or anything to keep the lines from queue passing!!! So many people just came and went in the front adn nobody can say anything because they do not have proofe.

Another thing, when the doors opened at 18:30-18:40 nobody entered because the crawd( it was not even a queue) was not even moving a meter! Then the concert started 40mins later because the entering was not orgainsed at all! I am absolutely disappointed by the organisation but at least I tried my best to enjoy the show and one of my favourite groups!

Wow this concert was absolutely amazing. It’s so much better than I expected. I knew it was going to be great but wow... it was amazing. The atmosphere of the concert was outstanding. Even when they just put music videos on at the start everyone was screaming to them. The girls were so nice and were very interactive with the audience. My dad who doesn’t like Kpop enjoyed the concert as well. I’d really recommend seeing this concert.

Omg this show in london was amazing. The energy and atmosphere stay alive all night making the concert fun all the way through. each member did so well as well as jennie, the videos of her being lazy completely cancel out as she was energetic the whole night. they interact with the audience and not just sing and dance. They are so cute and make it enjoyable all the way through. Jisoo is also the cutest thing ever you have to see her live

Blackpink Announces ‘Born Pink’ Tour Dates, Plots Largest World Tour in the History of a K-Pop Girl Group

By Larisha Paul

Larisha Paul

Blackpink are launching into their comeback era at full speed with the announcement of Born Pink , the 36-date world tour that aims to be the “largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group,” according to the pop phenomenon’s management company YG Entertainment. They also announced the release date for their upcoming LP, also named Born Pink . The album arrives on Sept. 16.

The expansive tour will launch on Oct. 15 in Seoul before Blackpink makes their way to Dallas and Houston. November will see the group performing in Atlanta, Hamilton, Chicago, Newark, Los Angeles, and London before making December stops in Barcelona, Cologne, Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam.

Blackpink recently made their musical return with “ Pink Venom ,” their first official single since the release of The Album in 2020. After some time holed up in the studio, Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa will release their sophomore album ahead of the tour launch, getting back into the flow of stardom.

“I love to perform, but I don’t always enjoy being part of the spotlight,” Jisoo shared in Blackpink’s candid Rolling Stone cover story . “I think it’s different for the other members: They love to receive the spotlight, feeling energized by the people who come to see us, and then getting a bit depressed when the stage is over and silence arrives. I’m a little different. When I’m onstage, I think about not making mistakes. Performing sometimes feels more like a test than something genuinely fun.”

A huge misprint on aespa’s concert tickets sparks criticism from fans.

blackpink concert tour schedule

K-Pop girl group aespa is preparing for its second world tour, 2024 aespa Live Tour—SNYK: Parallel Line , which will start in Seoul on June 29-30.

post

After Seoul, they will set off to Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei, and more to meet with global fans.

date

However, recently, fans who received their concert tickets for Seoul were confused with the dates.

mis2

While the original concert dates for Seoul were June 29 and 30, the tickets received by fans had the dates misprinted with June 28 and 29.

mis

Not long after, Melon Ticket sent out a text message regarding the misprinted tickets.

message

“Hello, this is Melon Ticket. We are here to inform you about the <2024 aespa LIVE TOUR— SYNK: PARALLEL LINE> tickets. We have confirmed that we misprinted the dates on the card tickets. You will be able to enter the show on the date that you purchased the tickets. Please understand that we cannot re-send new tickets as the concert date is nearing. We will help with exchanges at the concert location if you want a new ticket. You must return the tickets you received in the mail to exchange tickets. We will work harder to give the best service. Thank you.” — Melon Ticket

Netizens and fans couldn’t understand why they would not resend the tickets as fans even had to pay a reservation fee of 4,000 KRW ($~2.90 USD) along with the ticket price.

ae2

  • “Are they crazy.”
  • “Do they think the problem is solved with one text message?”
  • “It’s not like the concert is tomorrow. They have enough time to send new tickets.”
  • “We’ll have to pay attention to the dates before going.”
  • “They have two weeks left, just bring new ones.”
  • “It’s going to be crazy on the day of the concert.”
  • “What will they do when problems start happening at the show? How are they doing business like this.”
  • “Two weeks is enough time to print new ones.”

ae

  • “This is confusing. Fans are going to have to pay attention to the ticket dates.”
  • “It’s not like it’s tomorrow. There’s two weeks left, why can’t they send new ones? Is it because it’s a card ticket? They just scan the tickets before going in. Can’t they just make it so they know which one it is? They usually can resolve this even if you leave your Melon ticket at home.”
  • “What are they going to do, so many fans are going to be confused.”
  • “They have two weeks left. Why aren’t they sending new ones when it’s their fault?”
  • “I saw them printing tickets when they sold additional seats on the day of. They can print tickets easily. Can’t they change the design and send it out? There’s two weeks left.”
  • “If there’s two weeks left, they should immediately print new ones.”

What do you think of this? Should they send out new tickets?

IVE tell us about their debut UK concert, covering Little Mix and spreading confidence

The K-pop girl group will bring their Show What I Have world tour to London this weekend

IVE

IVE have spoken to NME about their upcoming debut UK concert, covering Little Mix on tour and the confident messages behind their latest EP, ‘IVE Switch’ . Check out our conversation with the girl group below.

  • READ MORE: IVE – ‘I’VE MINE’ review: K-pop’s queen bees grow beyond the archetype

The K-pop six-piece will headline London’s The O2 on Sunday (June 16), with the performance marking the only UK stop on the European leg of their Show What I Have world tour . The dates kicked off in Seoul last September and have seen the Starship Entertainment group perform across Asia and the US so far.

Reflecting on the American leg of the tour, singer Wonyoung shared that one stop of the run was particularly special for her.

“I really loved the show in Atlanta because I went there with my family before,” she said, referring to a period of her youth when her family was located in the Georgia city. “So I already had great memories there, but this time I went with my members, so it was another [kind of] excitement”.

During the tour so far, IVE have surprised fans with new versions of their previous releases  – like a rock version of their 2022 b-side ‘Royal’ – giving them fresh makeovers that elevate the live experience. “With the concert version of the songs, they become more fun [for us],” rapper Gaeul explained. “It’s a lot more fun for the DIVEs [IVE’s fanbase] too, [so we can] just enjoy and have fun together.”

As well as refreshed takes on their own material, the group’s setlists on tour have included a variety of cover songs, including tracks by Ariana Grande , NIKI , Richard Sanderson, Lee Hi and Crush . Although IVE have changed up which songs they cover at different stops, they told NME they would be keeping their versions of Little Mix’s ‘Woman Like Me’ and Spice Girls ’ ‘Wannabe’ in the running order for their London show.

“They’re two very representative groups of the UK [so] I’m very excited to go to London and perform the songs in their country of origin,” Leeseo, who covers ‘Woman Like Me’ with leader Yujin, said. “Little Mix are a group that I enjoy and respect, so it’s a fun experience to cover them. I’m curious about the [UK] fans’ reactions.”

Wonyoung also teased that there could be new surprises in the setlist for London. “I’m not going to tell you whether it’s a unit [performance] or [full group], but maybe some of the [performances will] have little differences from previous [shows].”

The Show What I Have tour marks IVE’s first world tour since they debuted in 2021 and follows the girl group holding a fan concert tour in Asia and appearing at numerous festivals across the globe. Despite their experience on stage, rapper Rei admitted to feeling some trepidation before beginning the trek.

“Before the world tour, we only went to certain countries, so I felt a little bit nervous about going on a full world tour,” she said. “But DIVEs were so welcoming and we[‘ve] really enjoyed the stage wholeheartedly. Through the world tour and our [performances], we’re learning to grow a lot.”

Growth is a key factor in the themes behind IVE’s music, which often portrays messages of confidence and self-love. Their latest EP, April’s ‘IVE Switch’, is no different. On the rap-focused ‘Accendio’, they assert their power in a relationship, while ‘Heya’ was inspired by a folk take created by IVE themselves and based on a Korean legend. Titled The Tiger Who Loved The Sun , it suggests that, as long as you have a pure heart, you can achieve whatever goals you set for yourself.

“The folk tale is a very confident one and it presents a very strong self,” Gaeul said. “We put in a lot of effort to give that confident and strong attitude in our performance [of ‘Heya’]. It’s an attitude that we’re supposed to love ourselves, so we wanted to show that.”

Elsewhere on the EP, Wonyoung contributed to the songwriting of ‘Blue Heart’, a skittering song that tackles the idea of staying strong in the face of scrutiny and hate. Although it was based on negative attention she has received, the singer told NME she wrote it as a message of encouragement for all listeners. “I was writing about my stories, but I thought it can fit into everybody’s story as well,” she said. “I want to tell everybody to stay strong against the world – I want to give them great and powerful energy to live in this world.”

The star also explained her approach to dealing with hateful comments and the criticism that can come with being in the spotlight. “I’m always concentrating on myself, just for me,” she said. “[Whatever people] are saying about me, it’s [based on] the outside [view], so I’m just gonna concentrate on [what’s] inside [me]. That’s [what’s] gonna help me.”

After IVE wrap up their European tour in London, the group will continue their packed schedule with shows in South America, Australia, and Asia, with a return to Seoul and debut appearance at Japan’s 55,000-capacity Tokyo Dome, where they’ll hold two concerts. In between headline shows, the six-piece will also make its US festival debut at Chicago’s Lollapalooza.

“Lollapalooza is a very big stage and we’re very honoured to perform,” Leeseo said. “We’ll try our hardest to prepare really well for it, and we’ll also be practising with the [live] band we’ll be showing at the festival.”

“We have a lot of big performances waiting for us this year,” Yujin added. “Our first and main goal is to not get hurt and to just do these performances really well.”

IVE headline London’s The O2 on Sunday June 16. Find any remaining tickets for the concert here .
