According to our forefather's sayings, the name Papikondalu is the word taken from a Telugu word called (Papidikondlu),

because when we see the view of this holy river Godavari from the top of this Papikondlu it looks like a hairline (Thala lo Papidi)of a woman.

but according to our history (Puranam) when the great Saptharuhees bought Pathala Ganga down, the king of an evil kingdom named (Papi) stopped the flow of Ganga then once again the Saptharushees requested the king "Papi" to give the way then he gave small space to continue the flow of water that's what the reason Papikondalu are so close to each other.

Papikokndalu is a famous tourist attraction in Andhra Pradesh that is going to "extinct" shortly, due to a well-known dam namely the "Polvaram project "which is under construction. after the construction of the dam, there are about 250 small villages that will be drowned.

Papidi is a rough translation for partition in Telugu. Since this range looks like a well designed partition that splits river Godavari, this name was coined. There is also another idea that the range looks like a partition of a typical Indian Woman’s hair line. In due course, it settled for ‘Papi Kondalu’.Papikondalu Andhra Pradesh – “Papi kondalu” or the “Papi Hills” are series of mountain range that are located Rajahmundry in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. Papikondalu Mountain range runs along River Godavari, one of the largest and vivacious rivers in India. The mighty river narrowing and passing with twists and turns along the Papi Hills is every visitor’s delight. Papikondalu mountain range spreads over a vast area, covering about three districts of East Godavari, West Godavari and Khammam Districts.To get the real essence of Papikondalu, one has to go for the boat journey either from Rajahmundry,Bhadachalamr. There are small motor boats with capacity of five including the rider or River Streamers carrying about fifty to sixty people. The journey takes about 8 hours and the adventure begins the moment you step on to the boat. • 11:00 AM Boat journey. via Devipatnam, while on boat view demolishing old Police Station at the time of British rule, the said Police station was attacked alongwith other two situated in different remote agency areas at Y'ramavaram and Addateegala by Freedom Fighter Mr. Alluri Seetharama Raju by giving advance intimation through "Mirchi Tapa"

Papikondalu tourism.

Papikondalu mountain range runs along the River Godavari (Western Godavari) and is located in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. Papikondalu is a sheer fest to the eyes in terms of its scenic beauty. As the hills become closer and closer to the visitor, the width of the mighty Godavari becomes narrower. In accordance with this view resembling the middle partition of a woman's hair, it was initially named as 'Papidi' Kondalu- Paidi in Telugu means the middle partition of a woman’s hair.
