Stepping out from behind her guitar, Grant found herself hosting the NBC prime time series “Three Wishes” in 2005, bringing her into millions of living rooms across America every Friday night. The people she met and stories she collected proved to be great inspiration for creating new music and even writing a book. Two years later, Grant’s first book, Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far , was published. She continues to share her stories with audiences all over the country as a keynote and inspirational speaker.

In April 2016, Grant celebrated the 25th anniversary of her first pop hit, “Baby Baby”, with a worldwide release of a new version of the song featuring pop sensation and fellow Capitol Music Group recording artist Tori Kelly. Growing her wildly popular Christmas brand, Grant then released “Tennessee Christmas” in October 2016, her first all-new Christmas album in nearly twenty years. She looks forward to national arena symphony Christmas tours each November and December with long-time friend Michael W. Smith, as well as an annual Christmas residency at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville with country superstar husband Vince Gill.

Grant resides with her family in Nashville, Tennessee, and is widely known for her philanthropy and tireless involvement in local causes and charitable organizations. Her own organization, The Helping Hands Foundation, has afforded her the opportunity to identify needs around her and the resources to help meet them, which has proven to be the sweetest reward of all.

2024 AIG Women's Open viewership jumped 42% over 2023, while PGA Tour's BMW Championship plunged further: Reports

T he 2024 AIG Women's Open and the PGA Tour's BMW Championship were played on the same days. Both competitions began on August 22 and concluded on August 25. However, when compared to their previous editions, it's the AIG Women's Open that performed better.

In his newsletter, popular golf writer Geoff Shackelford reported a 42% increase in audience for the AIG Women's Open in comparison to 2023. As per Shackelford, the final round of the women's tournament drew 950,000k viewers whereas Saturday's third round averaged 547,000.

On the other hand, the PGA Tour's BMW Championship continued to witness a decline. An average of 2.45 million viewers tuned in on NBC to witness Round 4 of the tournament at the Castle Pines Golf Club . Last year, the number of viewers who tuned in to watch Round 4 of the BMW Championship was 3.03 million.

This means the competition witnessed a down of 19%. Also, it's important to note that the first competition of the playoff, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, also witnessed a decline in viewership . While Lucas Glover's win last year clocked in 3.207M viewers, Hideki Matsuyama's win this year drew 2,211,000 viewers.

Who won the 2024 AIG Women's Open and how much did she earn?

Lydia Ko won the 2024 AIG Women's Open. The victory in Scotland was one of the three special moments Ko experienced in the last three weeks. Before her win at the AIG Women's Open, the professional golfer from New Zealand won an Olympic gold medal which helped her in getting inducted into the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Ko's victory at the AIG Women's Open held at the St. Andrews Links (Old Course), earned her $1,425,000 from the $9,500,000 purse.

NORTON, Mass. — The FM Championship kicks off at TPC Boston on Thursday, and the 144-player field features plenty of the game’s top athletes. Ten 2024 winners are set to compete, including Cognizant Founders Cup champion Rose Zhang, Australian Hannah Green and soon-to-be U.S. Solheim Cup participant Lauren Coughlin. Massachusetts natives Megan Khang and Alexa Pano will also tee it up in front of friendly crowds as everyone battles it out for a share of a $3.8 million purse and ever-valuable Race to the CME Globe points.

Take a look at just some of the featured groups this week at the FM Championship, using data provided by KPMG Performance Insights :

Thursday, 8:10 a.m.* – Rose Zhang/Celine Boutier/Amy Yang

Rose Zhang will be looking to keep her made-cut streak going this week at the FM Championship, as the 21-year-old hasn’t missed a cut on the LPGA Tour since the U.S. Women’s Open presented by Ally at Lancaster Country Club. She captured her second career LPGA Tour title in May at the Cognizant Founders Cup, blitzing everyone in the field except runner-up Madelene Sagstrom with a four-day total of 24-under at Upper Montclair Country Club, and has earned three other top-10 finishes this season, the most recent of which is a tie for sixth that came at the CPKC Women’s Open. Statistically, Zhang is ranked in the top 15 in three strokes gained categories at the moment, currently sitting at fifth in strokes gained approach (+1.16), sixth in strokes gained total (+1.69) and 14th in strokes gained tee to green (+1.09), according to KPMG Performance Insights. As TPC Boston is an unfamiliar venue to everyone in this year’s field, it will take a well-rounded athlete to contend come Sunday at the FM Championship, and Zhang is a player who could definitely fit that bill, particularly considering her history with golf courses in the Northeast.

It's been a steady year for Celine Boutier, who has only missed one cut in her 17 previous starts ahead of the FM Championship and has earned six top 20s this year, the best of which was a solo second that came at the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore. Even though she has yet to capture her seventh LPGA Tour title after winning four times in 2023, the 30-year-old Frenchwoman is ranked in the top 25 in strokes gained approach (11, +0.89), strokes gained tee to green (22, +0.92) and strokes gained around the green (24, +0.21) so far this year, according to KPMG Performance Insights. Boutier is also 18th in both birdies (215) and sub-par holes (219) on the LPGA Tour this season, additionally ranking 19th in rounds in the 60s (17). She comes to TPC Boston off a pair of top-25 results in Scotland, tying for 25th at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open and tying for 22nd at last week’s AIG Women’s Open.

Amy Yang won her first major title earlier this year at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club, winning by three shots over Jin Young Ko, Lilia Vu and Miyu Yamashita in Sammamish, Wash. She hasn’t found herself at the top of the leaderboard since, finishing no better than T37 in her last three starts on the LPGA Tour. However, Yang did earn two top-25 finishes early in the year – a T22 at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions and a T23 at the Honda LPGA Thailand – that, along with her victory, have helped her rank 28th in the Race to the CME Globe with just nine events remaining until Yang will defend her title at the CME Group Tour Championship. The FM Championship marks Yang’s 16th event of the 2024 LPGA Tour season, and the Rolex Rankings No. 5 should feel right at home as she works to contend for a second victory this season as, like Sahalee, TPC Boston presents the 35-year-old with another tree-lined test.

Thursday, 12:59 p.m. – Megan Khang/Yuka Saso/Hannah Green

Massachusetts native Megan Khang is playing mayor at the FM Championship, as the LPGA Tour winner is one of just a handful of athletes with ties to the Bay State competing at TPC Boston. She even got to throw out a ceremonial first pitch on Tuesday night at the Red Sox game against the Toronto Blue Jays to help welcome women’s golf back to the Greater Boston area. Khang will be working hard to collect her second career LPGA Tour title this week in front of a hometown crowd, having become a Rolex First-Time Winner at the CPKC Women’s Open in 2023 after defeating Jin Young Ko in a playoff at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club. Since her win in Canada, Khang has collected six top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, three of which are top fives that have come this season. The 26-year-old finished solo third at the LPGA Drive On Championship in January, tied for second at the ShopRite LPGA Classic presented by Acer in June and then tied for third a couple of weeks ago at the ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open. She has earned four other top-15 results so far this season in 16 total starts, and statistically, Khang is also showing her mettle as she competes week in and week out among the world’s best. According to KPMG Performance Insights, Khang is second in strokes gained tee to green (+1.81), fourth in strokes gained approach (+1.21) and seventh in strokes gained around the green (+0.43). She leads the LPGA Tour this season in proximity to the hole from 125 to 150 yards and is also ranked 20th in strokes gained driving (+0.48) and 23rd in strokes gained total (+1.09), only losing shots in strokes gained putting (-1.16) this year.

Yuka Saso collected her second LPGA Tour title and second major championship victory at the U.S. Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club earlier this season and has been a bit quiet since, missing three cuts and only finding the top 20 once in her last five starts on the LPGA Tour. Still, it’s been a solid year for the 23-year-old, who has earned five total top-20 results in addition to her win at the season’s third major in Lancaster, Penn. The FM Championship is her 15th start of the 2024 LPGA Tour season, and while her recent results may indicate a brief slip in form, Saso is still performing well on paper, something that is evidenced when looking at data provided by KPMG Performance Insights. She ranks sixth in strokes gained putting (+0.89) and eighth in strokes gained driving (+0.63), also sitting at 26th in strokes gained total (+1.05). Saso is additionally second in birdie-or-better percentage when finding the fairway this season, recording a sub-par score 30.9 percent of the time when hitting the ball in the fairway off the tee.

Hannah Green is one of only four multi-time winners on the LPGA Tour this season, capturing her fourth career title at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore and then successfully defending her title at the JM Eagle LA Championship presented by Plastpro. This week marks her 15th tournament of the 2024 season, and in addition to those two victories, the Australian has collected four other top-20 results, including a solo second that came at the Mizuho Americas Open when Green went toe-to-toe with Nelly Korda at Liberty National Golf Club. The Rolex Rankings No. 7 is gaining shots in every major strokes gained category this season, most notably ranking 10th in strokes gained total (+1.46),16th in strokes gained putting (+0.61) and 20th in strokes gained approach (+0.69), according to KPMG Performance Insights. Green is additionally ranked second in putts per green in regulation (1.76) and fifth in scoring average (70.57) on the LPGA Tour this year.

Thursday, 1:10 p.m. – Jin Young Ko/Alexa Pano/Alison Lee

It’s been a solid season thus far for Jin Young Ko, even though she has yet to find victory lane on the LPGA Tour in 2024 and has missed two cuts at major championships. The Republic of Korea native has collected seven top-15 finishes in her 13 2024 starts, the best and most notable of which was a tie for second that came at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship at Sahalee. Statistically, the 15-time LPGA Tour winner is third in strokes gained approach on the LPGA Tour this season (+1.26) and is 11th in strokes gained total (+1.43), also ranking 23rd in strokes gained tee to green (+0.89), according to KPMG Performance Insights. Ko also ranks third in putts per green in regulation and ninth in scoring average (70.86).

Like Megan Khang, Alexa Pano also hails from Massachusetts. The 20-year-old was born in Westborough, Mass., and will be working hard to track down a second LPGA Tour this week in front of her friends and family at TPC Boston in Norton. She became a Rolex First-Time Winner last year on her 19th birthday at the 2023 ISPS Handa World Invitational in Northern Ireland, and has collected four top-15 results after doing so, most recently tying for 10th last week at the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews. According to KPMG Performance Insights, the young talent is ranked inside the top five on the LPGA Tour in both strokes gained around the green (+0.54) and strokes gained driving (+0.80), also ranking ninth in strokes gained tee to green (+1.21). The Epson Tour alum has also recorded 19 rounds this season during which she has gained one full shot or more off the tee, and Pano is currently tied for third-most in that statistic, only behind LPGA Tour winners Linn Grant and Jennifer Kupcho.

California native Alison Lee just qualified for her first U.S. Solheim Cup team since 2015 after finishing in a tie for 29th at the Old Course at St Andrews and will be looking to capitalize on her bolstered confidence this week in Norton, Mass. The FM Championship is her 16th tournament of the 2024 season, and the 29-year-old has picked up four top-10 finishes this year, tying for third at the FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship and then tying for eighth at the Ford Championship presented by KCC, Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and CPKC Women’s Open. Statistically, Lee has also fared well so far in 2024, currently sitting at 11th in strokes gained tee to green (+1.18) and 19th in strokes gained approach (+0.69). She is also second in eagles this season with eight total. Like many in this week’s field, Lee is using the FM Championship as one last tune-up for the Solheim Cup at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, as the LPGA Tour is off next week ahead of the biennial team competition just outside of Washington, D.C.

Amazon on the Palouse? Unnamed warehouse development planned near Pullman airport

A warehouse and distribution center is being planned near the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport, and speculation holds that it just might be one of the world’s largest companies.

The building will be about 29,000 square feet, operate every minute of every day, require the use of fleet vehicles such as a trucks and trailers, and be used to receive and deliver parcels and packages in bulk that may contain products, materials, food, grocery and liquor items, according to Whitman County records.

The description, which came from application materials, fits the characteristics of Amazon facilities, including the potential use of renewable energy systems like solar and hydrogen which the company vowed to draw all of its power from by 2030.

But the application does not directly identify the global retailer.

The documents were filed by Ambrose Property Group, a firm based in Indianapolis that is known to work with Amazon on developments.

Ambrose built two fulfillment centers in Fort Wayne, Ind., another in Bristol, Ind., and Amazon delivery stations in Kansas City and another in Toledo, Ohio, according to its website.

“The applicant is acting as an intermediary for whoever the company is,” said county planner Alan Thomson. “Rumor has it that it’s Amazon, but I don’t know for certain because it wasn’t said in the documents.”

A conditional use application was submitted to the county last month that was followed by a 21-day appeal period which ended last week.

Throughout the process, Thomson gained no insight into what company will occupy the space.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s not an issue whether it be Amazon or not,” he said. “Legally, they have gone through the process correctly, so I am no longer interested.

“Whoever it is will bring jobs and income so that’s good for Whitman County and the city of Pullman.”

Thomson said construction could begin as early as this fall and conclude in the spring.

Though the 29,000-square-foot Pullman project will differ from Amazon’s 2.6-million-square-foot West Plains Fulfillment Center or even its 1.3 million-square-foot Fulfillment Center in Spokane Valley, its footprint mirrors other Amazon locations.

A 30,750-square-foot facility is leased by the retailer on land owned by Spokane International Airport.

And next month, Amazon officials plan to finish construction on a 34,740-square-foot warehouse and distribution center at William R. Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles, according to the Peninsula Dailey News.

Just north of Olympic National Park, the project was dubbed “Project Olympia” by the applicant – Ambrose Property Group.

The new building planned for the Palouse is named “Project Cougar.” Though Thomson remains unconcerned as to which company is ultimately behind the project, he believes Pullman is worthy of a high-caliber retailer.

“I don’t know about you, but my household makes prodigious use of Amazon as do thousands of people in the Palouse,” he said. “There’s a market here.”

Ambrose officials could not be reached Tuesday.

U of I to present ‘Every Brilliant Thing’ in honor of suicide awareness

August 29, 2024.

MOSCOW, Idaho — In honor of National Suicide Prevention Week, University of Idaho will host two performances of “Every Brilliant Thing” at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Forge Theater in Moscow.

The play, which includes discussions of suicide and depression, is sponsored by Idaho Repertory Theatre, the Dean of Students Office and Vandal Health Education.

The script, written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donohoe, explores themes of mental health awareness in a play the Guardian describes as “one of the funniest plays you'll ever see about depression — and possibly one of the funniest plays you'll ever see, full stop.”

Life is full of momentous events, highs and lows, triumphs and losses, but rarely has such a broad range of universal emotions been captured so lovingly and humorously in such a brilliant, tiny package.

This life-affirming play will make you grin from ear to ear, move you to laughter and at times bring you to tears. By the end, you will want to hug your neighbors, call your loved ones and then put on your favorite piece of music and recount all your blessings.

Craig A. Miller from the U of I Department of Theatre stars in this one-actor show.

“I think one of the most important takeaways from the play is just how prevalent mental health issues are in the lives of every single person who comes to sit in the audience and watch this beautiful play,” Miller said. “None of us are untouched by mental health challenges, whether it is ourselves or someone who is close to us. I think it also helps to combat the negative stigma associated with certain mental health diagnoses and reminds people that help is out there.”

This is the third consecutive year that “Every Brilliant Thing” is being produced at U of I in connection with suicide awareness.

The shows are free, and tickets can be reserved online .

The Forge Theater is located at 404 Sweet Ave.

From 'Button Hole Kid' to one of world's top golfers, Megan Khang plays TPC Boston this week

Portrait of Bill Koch

NORTON, Mass. – Long before she was a brand ambassador for the title sponsor here this week, Megan Khang was a Button Hole Kid.

A significant step in her golf journey took place in the former gravel pit that sits an equal drive from downtown Providence, Johnston and North Providence. Khang was one of the youth players who took advantage of everything the facility had to offer, and it’s helped vault her to a considerably larger stage.

More: Button Hole focusing on the long game

More: Amy Russo learns about golf — and grit — on the green at Button Hole

The FM Championship opens Thursday at TPC Boston. Her fourth straight Solheim Cup follows in two weeks , with Khang representing the United States against Team Europe. She’s a long way from the little girl who grew up paying $1 to play nine holes at one particular par-3 course.

“I kind of dragged my cousin with me just so I would have a friend to go play with,” Khang said. “Just being a Button Hole Kid, having a bucket of balls was only $1 or $2. It was very affordable for almost anyone.

“As I got older, I didn’t realize how expensive golf can be.”

Who is Megan Khang?

Khang’s parents were Vietnam War refugees from Laos who came to America in the 1970s. They settled in Brockton and her father, Lee, worked as a mechanic in Providence. He was in search of a sporting outlet for his daughter soon after Button Hole formally opened in 2000, and another chapter in their family’s history will be written this week.

“You could spend an entire day and spend maybe $10,” Khang said. “It’s incredible.”

Button Hole is still largely as Khang remembers it – barely 1,000 yards from the back tees, driving range, two putting greens and a chipping area with a sand bunker. Billy Andrade and Brad Faxon, the state’s professional golf emissaries and charity mainstays for four decades, serve as honorary co-chairs. Khang remains close with course founder Ed Mauro and his wife, Karen Adams, the longtime WPRI-TV anchor and avid golfer.

“They’re an incredible couple,” Khang said. “There’s no better family to do what they do, and they do it for the love of growing the game.”

Khang was an emerging star before too long, qualifying for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Open as a 14-year-old and winning the Connecticut Women’s Open three times as a teenager. She earned her LPGA Tour card entering the 2016 season and picked up her first win last year at the CPKC Women’s Open.

“We had very limited time – especially when it came to daylight savings,” Khang said. “We had to have a very good practice session putting in the time and effort. The time was very short.”

Khang has developed into one of the most consistent contenders on tour, using a certain former New England Patriots quarterback for some inspiration. She’s closing in on a sixth straight year-end finish in the top 50 of the Women’s World Golf Rankings and finished in the top 10 at three LPGA majors in 2023. Khang was the top scorer for Team USA at the last Solheim Cup, collecting 3½ points thanks to a pair of victories with partner Lexi Thompson and a Sunday singles win over Linn Maria Grant.

“Hard work goes a long way,” Khang said. “(Tom) Brady played for however many extra years that not many others would. The work ethic alone just shines through.”

What is the FM Championship?

The last top-tier professional golf event in Massachusetts came in 2020, with Dustin Johnson dominating The Northern Trust field to win by 11 shots. That was the most recent of 17 PGA Tour events held at this venue, with the Deutsche Bank Championship – later rebranded the Dell Technologies Championship – starting in 2003. Orchards Golf Club hosted the U.S. Women’s Open the following year, with Meg Mallon capturing the title in South Hadley.

“To be able to bring it back to New England – Massachusetts especially – is incredible,” Khang said. “We have such a great fan base out here. We have amazing golf courses that we do want to showcase.

“I think it’s important to show off the girls, as well. We can play this golf course just like the men.”

Khang starts her tournament off the first tee Thursday, playing with Hannah Green and Yuka Saso at 12:59 p.m. The same threesome will go off the 10th tee Friday at 7:59 a.m. and will be one of the featured groups on the ESPN+ stream. Khang will be searching for a healthy cut of the $3.8-million purse, the largest available in 2024 outside the LPGA majors and tour championship.

“Hopefully it’s going to be very entertaining,” Khang said. “Selfishly, I’m hoping I’m the one raising the cup. We’ll see at the end of the week.”
