Young Country traditionalist Alex Miller’s world expanded following his American Idol experience in 2021. Shortly after exiting the show, Miller secured a manager, a booking agent, and a record label. Alex’s well-received debut album, MILLER TIME, was released in April of 2022 and generated three high-impact singles: “I’m Over You, So Get Over Me,” “Don’t Let The Barn Door Hit Ya,” and “Through With You.” Alex’s second release for Billy Jam Records, COUNTRY (October 2023), featured his more recent hits, “When God Made The South,” “Girl, I Know A Guy,” and his most recent smash single, “Puttin’ Up Hay.” 

The 6’ 6” singer/songwriter from rural Lancaster, Kentucky is a natural fan favorite whose career has moved at warp speed. In addition to touring heavily throughout 2021, the talented newcomer was also chosen as the Texas Roadhouse Artist of the Month (October) and performed a duet with Grand Ole Opry star Rhonda Vincent at the Lee Greenwood All-Star Salute concert (November). By the beginning of 2022, Alex had entertained at multiple State Fairs (Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Washington, Wisconsin), and opened for Hank, Jr, Josh Turner, Lee Brice, and Shenandoah. His star continued to rise, and even more bookings rolled in with Miller opening for Brooks & Dunn, Jamey Johnson, King Calaway, and Aaron Watson in 2022. Additionally, he shared the stage with Diamond Rio and Sawyer Brown and debuted at the popular Wild Rose Casinos in Iowa.     By the end of 2023, Alex had appeared on bills with: Chris Janson, Chapel Hart, Drake Milligan, Noah Thompson, Dillon Carmichael, HunterGirl, Emily Ann Roberts and Tracy Byrd. Miller performed at State Fairs in Kentucky, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, and West Virginia, plus County Fairs in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Alex also partnered with CMR Nashville, Europe’s #1 Country Music Radio Station, to host a curated monthly radio show called MILLER TIME - a fun, inside look at Miller’s inventive mind. Closing out a spectacular year, he received the American FFA Degree for excellence, the organization’s highest accolade. 

His heavy touring schedule exposed Alex to alternate genres and new artists. “I’m always working to better myself and my music,” Alex says. “But I’m Country … ain’t nothin’ gonna change that.”  

Miller is serious about carving out time for his songwriting. “It really helps me stay centered on who I am as an artist while at the same time giving me a chance to experiment a bit,” Alex notes. In the last 12 months alone, Alex has collaborated with hitmakers Kent Blazy, Larry Cordle, Kirsti Manna, Byron Hill, Carl Jackson, Wood Newton, Emily Ann Roberts, Jerry Salley, Josh Shilling, and Bill Whyte. “Writing with folks of this calibre has been a huge step for me,” Alex adds. “The hits they’ve written are crazy. Working with them, learning from them … it’s broadened my horizon musically and made me more confident. And hey, when it works and you’ve got a good song at the end of the day, there’s no better feeling.”   

Alex’s songwriting is a highlight of his newest EP, MY DADDY’S DAD, released on April 12. The energetic entertainer co-wrote three of the project’s five songs. Produced by Jerry Salley for Billy Jam Records, the collection runs the gamut from rowdy to romantic – and shows Miller is here for the long haul.

For a “kid from Kentucky” who began his career at the age of seven, Miller’s commitment to his craft is hardly in doubt. As a youngster, he quickly progressed from shows in and around his hometown of Lancaster to larger markets. Alex appeared at the Dolby Theatre, Lucas Oil Stadium, WoodSongs, Renfro Valley, Lincoln Jamboree and more. His expressive tenor voice brought him early success and his skills with guitar and lap steel are an integral part of his stage show. Alex also plays ukulele, bass, and banjo.

If you are a fan of traditional country music, especially the 1980’s-1990’s, then you are going to love Alex Miller’s debut album   Miller Time .  Releasing on Friday, April 29,  Miller Time  was recorded at The Gorilla’s Nest, Ashland City, TN. Recorded, engineered, and mixed by Chris Latham and mastered by Eric Conn at Independent Mastering in Nashville.   Miller Time  is a full length ten song album.  Accompanying Miller on his debut musical journey are Brent Mason (Electric Guitar), Mike Johnson (Steel Guitar), Jason Roller (Acoustic Guitar/Fiddle), Robb Tripp (Drums), Kevin Grantt (Bass), Dirk Johnson (Keyboard), and Jerry Salley (Background vocals)

Alex Miller, a native of Garrard County (Lancaster), Kentucky, stepped on stage during American Idol’s season nineteen at age 17 and stole country music lovers’ hearts across the country.  Even though he did not win, Miller became a household name from the first show, performing his original song (and first single), “I’m Over You, So Get Over Me.”

Miller Time opens up with “Breaking the Bank,” one of the four songs on the album that Miller co-wrote. “Breaking the Bank” is a rousing look at love gone sideways and the financial impacts that come with it. “There’s a hole in my pocket where my money used to be. Oh, my wallet it moved out when you moved in with me.” Miller laments, “Breaking my heart wasn’t good enough for you, so you had to go and spend all my hard earned money too.”

Miller Time features eight original songs and two classic country covers in “Freeborn Man” and Hank Williams’ “I’m Gonna Sing.” “I’m Gonna Sing” closes out the album, and if Miller had not already established his traditional country street creds with the first nine tracks (he definitely does) having the Oak Ridge Boys join him to sing a Hank Williams hymn does it. Ending the album in beautiful fashion and harmony.

The eight songs in between “Breaking the Bank” and “I’m Gonna Sing” are all flag bearers for traditional country music.  Some of the highlights include: my personal favorite, “Boys in Uniform, a somber look at the ‘Boys in Uniform’ first taking the field under Friday night lights, “The locker room grew still, we all bowed our heads to pray before we took the field.  We were the boys in uniform, knew what we were fighting for.  We were strong and we were brave, ready for anything.”  Wearing a different uniform, serving the country.  “M16s in our young hands, we’d shield our eyes and curse the sand that swirled up as the choppers land to take us in to war.” “Boys in Uniform” is a moving tribute to all the boys in uniform, from under the Friday night lights to Veteran’s Day parades.

Miller’s version of “Freeborn Man” is in his own style and as good as any version I have heard.  If you are doing cover songs, I prefer to see an artist take a song and make it their own vs trying to copy the original artist.  Miller hits home runs on both “Freeborn Man” and “I’m Gonna Sing” owning both songs.

Traditional country music is not dead and if Alex Miller has anything to say about it, won’t be for a long time.   Miller Time  is a romp and ramble through traditional country music.  The album has something for everyone, whether it is a moving ballad or a rousing ‘burn the joint down’ tune. At eighteen years old, Miller is the self-proclaimed flag bearer of traditional country music,  Miller Time  waves that flag proudly.   Miller Time  is available everywhere on Friday, April 29.  All platforms or direct from Miller’s web site,  https://alexmillercountry.com . This well-paced project is helmed by award-winning songwriter and respected industry veteran Jerry Salley. It's a party trick of an album - bold, occasionally irreverent and fun, mixed with moments of reflection and sadness - offered in Miller's timeless and emotive voice. MILLER TIME is available for pre-order now .

The collection opens with a tale of the dead-broke and broken-hearted in "Breaking The Bank," which is offered as a "grat track" with album pre-order. Miller then steals your breath away with the gently rolling ballad and current single, "Through With You," deftly transitioning from heartache to acceptance to moving on in three minutes and thirty-seven seconds. Alex takes a turn to the lighter side with the hilarious Western Swing (and first single release) "Don't Let The Barn Door Hit Ya," and keeps the humor going with the twangy, toe-tappin' fiddle and steel of "Girls Must Be Clumsy."

The achingly sweet, slow swinging "Kentucky's Never Been This Far From Tennessee" offers a nice mood shift, but the attitude's back with the sassy "I'm Over You, So Get Over Me." Things gets serious with "Boys In Uniform," a beautifully written and poignant patriotic ballad that offers an understated but powerful vocal performance.

"I'm Done" is a mid-tempo story of determined walkin' away, then the tempo moves into high gear with the amped-up, barn burning ode to the travellin' kind that is "Freeborn Man." The album closes with a rafter-raising rendition of Hank Williams' Gospel song, "I'm Gonna Sing," that finds Alex joined by the ever-amazing Oak Ridge Boys. Throughout, top-tier musicians bring their A-game. The project boasts Brent Mason on electric guitar, Mike Johnson on steel, Jason Roller on acoustic guitar and fiddle, Robb Tripp on drums, Kevin Grantt on bass and Dirk Johnson on keyboard.

"Going into this I wanted to make an album that showcased all the different sides of me - Swing, Bluegrass, Country and Gospel," says Alex. "MILLER TIME gives me the chance to show folks all the music I love and enjoy."

Fresh from Country Radio Seminar and hosting duties for Country Fix, Alex is busy gearing up for the launch of MILLER TIME. His current single, "Through With You" dropped last month and is already generating positive feedback from fans, the media and radio programmers. For the 18-year-old, it sometimes still feels slightly surreal.

"I always knew making music was what I wanted," Alex admits. "To actually be doing it is really me living the dream." His days begin early: there are band rehearsals, interviews with outlets from around the world, songs to write, travel to gigs and performances. In between, Alex still manages to find time to curate his Weekly Wednesday Facebook Video, post on socials and, when he's home - which is less and less often these days, he helps his Grandpa around the family cattle farm.

"I do miss Lancaster sometimes," Alex admits. "But this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance that I can't ignore. I'm lovin' it, I'm working hard ... doing my part to make 'em all proud of me." MILLER TIME should do just that.

ABOUT ALEX :  At 18, Miller might still be “a work in progress,” but what a piece of work he is. Standing 6’ 6” and engaging for one so young, Alex first found national fame as a competitor on American Idol  Season 19. It was a massive change for this Kentucky-born singer/songwriter – who was still working on the family’s farm when he was accepted for the show. Alex is an outlier in other ways, too: he is a true, torch-carrying champion of traditional Country music and he is proud of it. His career began at the age of seven with shows in and around his hometown of Lancaster before moving on to larger venues, including the Dolby Theatre, Lucas Oil Stadium, Renfro Valley, and more. Since departing  Idol , Alex has performed at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, five state Fairs (KY, MO, NY, WA, WI) and at additional venues around the country. He has headlined his own shows, and opened for Hank Williams, Jr., Josh Turner, Lee Brice, and more. In October of last year, Miller was named the Texas Roadhouse  Artist of the Month  and he performed a duet with Rhonda Vincent at the  Lee Greenwood All-Star Salute  the following month. MILLER TIME is his debut album.

Who is Alex Kendellen, Emerging Ireland's captain for the 2024 tour in South Africa?

It's a case of second time lucky for Alex Kendellen, the Munster Rugby back row who has been appointed as captain for the tour that will take place in early November.

The 24-year-old was due to travel on the first Emerging Ireland tour in South Africa in September 2022. But, after suffering a concussion, he left the squad's camp just before they travelled to Bloemfontein.

Six players who made that trip have since been capped by Andy Farrell at senior level, including Jack Crowley, Joe McCarthy, Cian Prendergast and Calvin Nash.

But Kendellen is still clearly on the Ireland head coach's radar as he has been chosen to lead the squad this time around by Simon Easterby, who for the second time will spearhead the coaching team in South Africa in Farrell's absence.

Hailing from Cork, the flanker went to Presentation Brothers College and captained the school to the Munster Schools Senior Cup final in 2020 - when the Cup was shared with Christian Brothers College due to the outbreak of Covid.

He joined the Munster academy in June of the same year and made his senior debut for the province against Scarlets in March 2021 before making his Champions Cup bow off the bench against Castres 10 months later, going on to win the Academy player of the year award that season.

Kendellen signed a senior contract for the Reds ahead of the 2022-23 campaign and is contracted until July of next year - he has made 67 appearances for the province to date, including 15 in the Champions Cup.

His progress stalled for 18 months, however, until he began to flourish again early this year, with Graham Rowntree trusting him with the Munster captaincy in a couple of games and his work-rate making him a stand-out performer in the Reds' revival.

At international level, he played for the Ireland Schools Team and the Ireland under-18 Sevens team and Sevens senior team.

He captained the Ireland under-20s in the 2021 Six Nations, scoring six tries in five games and two player of the match awards, before he was selected for the Emerging Ireland squad the following year - only to miss out.

Speaking about Kendellen's selection as captain for this tour, Easterby said: "I think it's a nice progression for someone like Alex who was due to travel with us on the last tour, he didn't make it through injury.

"His standing within Irish rugby has really grown over the last couple of seasons but part of that was his performances and captaincy of the 2os a couple of seasons ago and I think he'll stand up and lead really well.

"We're excited about that but there are obviously other players who have led both in provincial level and with the Irish 20s over the last couple of seasons, so yeah, it's a really exciting group and one as coaches we're really massively looking forward to working with over the next number of weeks."
