On Monday, Dec. 14, ZM Interactive (ZMI) announced the newest additions to its line of xFold drones, the xFold Dragon and the Dragon Hybrid. The xFold Dragon is capable of lifting up to 1,000 pounds, while the Dragon Hybrid boasts a flight time of 1.5 hours on battery and more than eight hours with a hybrid system.

The strongest and most adaptable drones in the industry according to ZMI, the xFold drones are also the only industrial UAS that can switch between x4 (quad), x6 (hexa), X8 (octo) and X12 (dodeca) configurations in minutes.

The xFold drone is easily customizable for any mission, as pilots can swap configurations in minutes. This includes adding robotic arms for delivery, extinguisher ball droppers for firefighting, sprayers for agriculture, or sensors for 3D mapping. Designed, manufactured, built and assembled by ZMI in the U.S. using proprietary components, the military grade commercial drones are weather resistant and made to fly in inclement conditions.

The xFold line of Dragon super carrier drones includes five different sizes and capacities, which ensures that there is an xFold drone suited for every flight operation and commercial mission. Payload for the five Dragon aircrafts include 100 pounds, 300 pounds, 500 pounds and 1,000 pounds.

“The xFold Dragons by ZMI are built to be the strongest, most adaptable aircraft on the market today,” says ZMI CEO Ziv Maron.

“We are constantly improving on our designs to make them suitable for every industry and every use. Our customers come to us with an idea and our technology continues to rise to the challenge – these capabilities are only the beginning and we have more exciting updates coming in 2021.”

The xFold is suitable for a variety of commercial, industrial, military and emergency-response applications. The xFold Dragon is currently being used by several customers, including Dynatics, NASA JPL, Livermore Labs, Israel Defence Force, U.S. Military, USDA, police and fire departments. Bell Helicopter, which was granted FAA Experimental Registration on multiple xFold aircrafts in 2019, is also using the xFold Dragon.

xFold Dragons are being used in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, Africa and Israel.

Demos will be held in January 2021 in San Francisco. They will feature heavy cargo delivery, including to offshore vessels, as well as long-distance operations and search-and-rescue operations.

Drone Delivery

Commercial drones, zm interactive launches its xfold drones with eight-hour flight time.

Avatar for Joshua Spires

ZM Interactive (ZMI) has announced its new range of xFold drones with flight times of eight hours and a payload capacity of 1,000 pounds. The new drones can switch between x4 (quad), x6 (hexa), X8 (octo), and X12 (dodeca) configurations in minutes.

The new line of drones is all built using the same frame capable of holding up to 12 motors. The frame has been built to allow motors to be easily added or removed depending on the use case.

To make it easier for customers to decide what to get, the company has created four base models for different uses, the xFold Spy , xFold Dragon, xFold Cinema, and xFold Travel.

The drones are already used by Dynatics, NASA JPL, Livermore Labs, Israel Defense Force, US Military, USDA, Bell Helicopter, and police and fire departments.

ZMI CEO Ziv Maron shared:

The xFold Dragons by ZMI are built to be the strongest, most adaptable aircraft on the market today. We are constantly improving on our designs to make them suitable for every industry and every use. Our customers come to us with an idea, and our technology continues to rise to the challenge. These capabilities are only the beginning, and we have more exciting updates coming in 2021.

The xFold SPY has 12 motors on very short arms to keep its footprint down. The drone is capable of flying for up to 25 minutes and carrying 15 pounds. It is equipped with a 600mW video downlink, allowing those on the ground to get a live feed from the air. The SPY also comes in three other variants with fewer motors.

The xFold Dragon is the group’s big boy with its focus set on industrial and military uses. The drone is capable of flying with a 1,000-pound payload for up to eight hours. The hybrid version can fly for 1.5 hours on its batteries and then another eight hours.

The xFold Cinema is designed for movie-making and capturing the world with large cinema-style cameras. This version has eight motors and can be controlled by two users, one controlling the drone and the other controlling the gimbal and camera. The drone can carry up to 22 pounds and flies for around 35 minutes. It can also be configured with more or fewer motors depending on your needs.

The XFold Travel has been designed to make it easier to use the drone on the go and travel with it. It is designed to carry DSLR, mirrorless and FLIR thermal cameras, making it an option for armature cinematographers not wanting to go with a pre-built drone. It has a flight time of up to 26 minutes and can carry up to 15 pounds. It can also be configured with more or fewer motors depending on your needs.

Heavy Lifting: ZM Interactive’s Dragon Series

xfold travel & dragon

ZM Interactive’s Dragon H500, delivering a cargo pallet.

In December, ZM Interactive announced the latest in what might be thought of as its Swiss Army knife drone. The xFold Dragon line features multiple sizes that can lift up to 1000 pounds. Pilots can switch from quad to up-to-dodeca-arms, with those extensions able to carry various motor types. And a gas-electric Hybrid adds significant time in the air.

“All our drones have the same design, even the smaller ones,” ZMI CEO Ziv Marom explained to Inside Unmanned Systems . “The regular Dragon is under 55 pounds. One size bigger is the Dragon H—’H’ is for heavy. And then H100, 300, 500, 1000—that’s basically payload.” The larger vehicles are used for more industrial applications, and the nomenclature helps with military standardization.

Moreover, the Dragon Hybrid can fly for 1.5 hours on battery and significantly longer with a gas-electric power system. “The drone has the same electric motors, but there is a gas engine that provides enough power to power the drone and also charge the battery on board,” Marom said. “We’re using our hybrid more for mapping, where it can do six, even eight, hours, under 55 pounds.”

Dragons can be customized in minutes, conformed for deliveries, or as ag sprayers, fire-fighting extinguisher ball droppers and 3D mappers, among others. “We can configure the model depending on the mission or the application,” Marom explained. “You can basically put more arms on the side, and then from four arms, it goes to hex, eight and up to 12.” Motors can be put on each arm, or doubled up top and bottom. Even propeller pitch can be mission-configured.

To exemplify this shape-shifting, Marom referenced a client that was doing a powerline test. “Using small sensors, they can fly the hybrid product for multiple hours and just inspect the line. But sometimes they’re in a remote area, and they basically need to deliver cables or utilities to the other side of the mountain. They put arms on with larger motors. So you have a lot less gear that you need to take with you.

“The same drone can basically achieve different applications, and that’s in minutes.”

Equines to “Matrix Four”

xfold travel & dragon

ZM Interactive CEO Ziv Marom.

CEO Marom has an eclectic background. He handled simulations and robots while serving in an elite intelligence unit in Israel, and also became a champion equestrian there. Moving to New York, he worked in visual effects and motion graphics for TV commercials. And he shifted from classic and Spanish guitar to play in rock bands. “I kind of like change, from one thing to another,” he said. “Now it’s in drones.”

Marom’s autonomy interests accelerated about 15 years ago in New York, initially around filming. “A lot of the shots that we did with cameras were either with big cranes or real helicopters. That was great, but super-limited. So I basically built a drone out of the little bit of background that I had from robotics, that would be larger and stronger to be able to fly those heavier cinema cameras.

“Then, when I moved to San Francisco, I just worked with different creative agencies and production companies. We did a lot of feature films.”

ZMI was founded in 2015 to work autonomously in that space, with Marom continuing to multitask as CEO, aerial director of photography and pilot. “We did drones for cinema—we got an Emmy Award for some of the documentaries that we did—and we did Hollywood films, and that was great. The basic Dragon is actually the one that we’re using in cinematography, which is under 55 pounds” Marom continued. “It’s the most efficient, and it can fly for 30 minutes with a big camera—pretty good for this type of drone.”

Then horizons expanded. “We saw that this technology can actually help a lot with different applications such as search and rescue. I started to build it bigger and bigger. You can still fold it and put it back of your SUV, but it will be strong enough to lift a human—either to deliver a medic into a disaster area or bring back someone who is stuck there.”

From “Matrix Four” to Window Washing

Recent film projects have included the much-anticipated “Matrix Four.” “Most of [the business] is industrial, for mapping and things like that, but also big features—it’s my passion; I did it for a long time,” Marom said. “Our drone services team does commercial and industrial work—“we kind of use the services to sell the platform.”

ZM Interactive’s future literally involves growth. “Something we’re actually going to work for next year is to have a few drones flying together, lifting something even bigger,” he said. “The drones we’re working with right now can lift 500 pounds, and now we’re going to lift 1000 pounds. It’s not just the weight, it’s also working on the flight time. One of the applications we’re working on now is 100 kilos for 15-20 minutes flight time on batteries. Working with the Navy, they obviously want to deliver cargo to vessels. So we developed a combination of different engines that are hybrid, and are testing that to get longer flight time on the large payloads as well.”

It takes more than super-sizing to build these heavy lifters. “It’s not just bigger models,” Marom said. “The frame is very important, the software. We are focusing on working under ISO 9000. If you built one or 200, all of them are exactly the same; that’s very important to work with the military.” No Chinese components are used when the Dragons are assembled in Northern California, easing governmental sales.

New applications continue to come forward. “We’re working with a company that pulls electric lines. And we’re also getting really crazy applications. One guy asked if we can basically lift air conditioners to the floors in a high-rise where they are building.

“In Dubai, they want to work with us on window cleaning. Now they’re climbing and doing it manually. They have a lot of dust there.” A visit to the Gulf to check out that project was COVID-canceled. “Hopefully next year,” Marom said. Until then, a Dragon demo scheduled for January 2021 will feature heavy cargo delivery, including to offshore vessels and search-and-rescue operations

New xFold Dragon cargo drone can lift almost half a ton

New xFold Dragon cargo drone can lift almost half a ton.

Flying drones have been around for years. Four-propeller models can give the most optimized performance in terms of battery life and usage, while the drones with six rotors can lift heavier loads. But companies like ZM Interactive (ZMI) are offering tools like the xFold Dragon H to go beyond that and are touching the top bar for productivity.

Its new xFold DragonH cargo drone can go either way, however, with extra propeller arms that can be attached or detached as needed. xFold is available in four carbon fiber-bodied models. Each of these units can, in turn, be flown in its basic quadcopter form or with six, eight, or even 12 motor/propeller units. In the latter two configurations, there are two such units at the end of each arm, so the drone doesn’t have eight or twelve arms separate. The arms can be folded back (but remain attached to the aircraft ) for transport or storage.

The xFold Dragon H.

The more rotors a drone has, the heavier loads it can lift. This can be robotic weapons, firefighting equipment, cameras, sensors, or flamethrowers to remove debris from power lines. ZMI offers four xFold models, varying in size but equally modular.

Depending on what the drone is used for, operators can also quickly install optional add-on tools such as robotic arms, fireball droppers, crop sprayers, or 3D mapping sensors . The smallest model, the xFold Spy, has a reported battery life of 35 minutes in its four-propeller configuration, down from a solid 12 minutes in 25-prop mode. It has a purported cargo capacity of 6 lb (2.7 kg) in the former and 15 lb (6.8 kg) in the latter, although the flight time drops to 10 minutes in both cases.

The Travel and Cinema models are already larger, but the largest drone in this lineup is Dragon. The Dragon Hybrid also has a gasoline engine that allows it to stay aloft for longer. With 12 propellers, the Dragon H can lift up to 454 kg (1000 pounds). When these options are not needed, the Dragon H can fly with four rotors.

The xFold drones are rain and dust-proof and can fly in tougher weather conditions than most drones. According to the company , the drones are fully customized, hardware, and software specifically for different applications.

Of course, these are the drones for professionals – amateurs don’t need them. However, this modular design is an important innovation that will benefit many areas, from documentary to research.

Dragon's Dogma 2 Prey for the Pack: Where to find Rodge

I f you're looking for Rodge in Dragon's Dogma 2 , you must be pursuing the Prey for the Pack quest. Upon first arriving in the Checkpoint Rest Town to the west of Vernworth, you were likely surprised to be confronted by an anxious apothecary whose grandson has been kidnapped by wolves, though I'm not quite sure how wolves kidnap someone, honestly.

This is also one of those rare time-sensitive quests, meaning if you don't save Rodge quickly he'll get eaten, which is sure to upset the apothecary. The only issue with finding Rodge fast is that the Prey for the Pack quest has no markers. Instead, you have to infer Rodge's location based on information provided by the villagers. Either that or you can just read this guide to find out.

Where to find Rodge

To get straight to the point, you can find Rodge in the Putrid Cave a fair distance to the east from the Checkpoint Rest Town. Since the quest is time-sensitive, you'll want to get there as fast as possible in order to save the boy. Now, I'll explain how you were actually supposed to discover that information.

If you talk to the villagers in the Checkpoint Rest Town entrance square, you'll discover a couple of vital pieces of information:

  • Rodge really likes flowers and was searching for a rare flower.
  • There's a rare flower in the area that only blooms at night.

Changing the time of day to night—either by dozing on a bench or resting at the inn on the Battahl side of the checkpoint—you can spot these glowing blue flowers leading away from the Checkpoint Rest Town on the eastern trail. If you follow them, you'll start to encounter wolves, and eventually find yourself at the Putrid Cave . Presumably Rodge was investigating the flowers and wandered off.

This route will also take you through a graveyard that has some skeletons and wight in it, so be wary, especially if you don't want to get waylaid. If you make it in-time, you can escort Rodge back to his grandfather. If you don't, you'll find the slightly harrowing Scrap of Cloth item. Bring either back to the apothecary to get your reward of roborant healing items and gold.

Star Wars enters a new era with The Acolyte . Hundreds of years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace , there was the High Republic era. Considered the golden age of the Republic with the Jedi Order at the height of their power, the High Republic has previously been explored in novels and audio dramas. Now, it Force-grabs live-action through Leslye Headland, The Acolyte 's creator and showrunner. The search for a Jedi killer unites Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) with his former Padawan, Mae (Amandla Stenberg), now a rogue warrior who could spell the Light Side's downfall. The ensemble cast includes Jodie Turner-Smith , Dafne Keen , Rebecca Henderson , Manny Jacinto , and The Matrix icon Carrie-Anne Moss .

Release Date : June 4 on Hulu

Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne), the new basketball coach in town, is determined to make the Los Angeles Clippers a winning team. The phenomenal players aren't the problem. The team's owner, Donald Sterling ( Ed O'Neill ), is the one making their dreams feel unreachable. In real-life, the NBA banned Sterling for life after leaked recordings revealed his racist statements. Before then, guiding the Clippers to victory was a horror show of scandal, secrets, and abuse. Gina Welch created Clipped , which co-stars Jacki Weaver and Cleopatra Coleman .

Release Date : June 7 on Hulu

"Is this the quarter-life crisis thing everyone's talking about on TikTok?" Creator Candice Carty-Williams 's Queenie , based on her bestselling new adult book, follows Queenie Jenkins ( Dionne Brown ) through her ups and downs. And, in Queenie's opinion, there are too many downs. Her boyfriend dismisses her as too angry, her grandparents are eternally judgmental, and life overall...life is just hard. But with her friends (dubbed "the Corgis" to her "Queen") by her side, Queenie's determined to work her way through this debacle and live her "best life."

Presumed Innocent

Release Date : June 12 on Apple TV+

Lawyer Rusty Sabich ( Jake Gyllenhaal ) falls passionately in love with fellow attorney Carolyn Polhemus ( Renate Reinsve ). When the authorities charge Rusty with Carolyn's murder, the trial lands him on the opposite side of the courtroom. Meanwhile, his betrayed wife Barbara ( Ruth Negga ) faces public scrutiny and questions her husband's presumed innocence. The Practice , Ally McBeal , and Big Little Lies showrunner David E. Kelley adapts the 1987 novel by Scott Turow , which was also a 1990 film starring Harrison Ford .

Hotel Cocaine

Release Date : June 16 on MGM+

"Every pleasure has a price." Roman Compte ( Danny Pino ) is the metaphorical king of his castle. That castle is the Mutiny Club, a 1978 Miami party house filled with disco, drugs, and other indulgences. To avoid arrest and protect his daughter, Roman reluctantly allies with a DEA agent ( Michael Chiklis ) to spy on Nestor ( Yul Vazquez ), his older brother and a notorious drug trafficker. What crimes must Roman commit to protect his family? For the manager of Hotel Cocaine , nothing's off limits. Hotel Cocaine arrives courtesy of showrunner Chris Brancato and director-producer Guillermo Navarro .

Orphan Black: Echoes

Release Date : June 23 on AMC

A spin-off of the series that won Tatiana Maslany an Emmy Award for Best Actress, Orphan Black: Echoes picks up almost 40 years after the events of co-creators John Fawcett and Graeme Manson 's original series. Lucy ( Jessica Jones ' Krysten Ritter) knows her name and nothing else about her past. Lucy might not even be her given name. On the run from violent strangers and searching for answers, Lucy crosses paths with scientist Dr. Kira Manning ( Keeley Hawes ), the adult daughter of Maslany's heroine Sarah Manning. Anna Fishko serves as Echoes ' creator.

My Lady Jane

Release Date : June 27 on Prime Video

My Lady Jane vigorously changes history by letting Lady Jane Grey, the "Nine Days Queen" of England, live past 17 years old. Instead of being deposed from the throne and executed, Jane ( Emily Bader ) runs away from her impending marriage and into the arms of the dashing Lord Guildford Dudley ( Edward Bluemel ). But certain royals still want to crown Jane queen over her cousin, Mary ( Kate O'Flynn ), aka "Bloody Mary." Jane just wants control over her life.
