Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

Ensure your passport is stamped when you enter the country. There have been reports of officials intentionally not stamping passports of visitors entering the country. When this occurs, visitors are unable to prove they legally entered.

Visa Requirements: See the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic’s website for visa information. Changes to visa-free travel guidelines went into effect on October 21, 2023.

U.S. citizens who enter the Kyrgyz Republic without a visa may stay up to 60 days but must depart and remain outside of the Kyrgyz Republic for an equal amount of time. In other words, in a 120-day period, they may be present in the Kyrgyz Republic for 60 days.

Travelers who plan to stay longer than 60 days should apply for the appropriate visa category electronically and register their stay with the appropriate government body. Additional information on the registration process can be found on the website for the Ministry of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic. Travelers who stay longer than their allotted 60 days must pay an administrative fine and apply for an exit visa prior to their departure and should contact the Consular Department of the MFA in advance of their departure if they know that they have overstayed their visa-free period. Individuals who are already in the country and who need to register their stay should be able to do so without leaving the country.

If you travel to the Kyrgyz Republic in any religious capacity, you must register with the State Commission on Religious Affairs.

Journalists traveling to the Kyrgyz Republic for work should obtain the appropriate visa at the nearest Kyrgyz Embassy prior to their arrival. In addition to visas, journalists are also required to register their stay and receive Ministry of Foreign Affairs approval to conduct press activities in country.

HIV/AIDS Restrictions: Some HIV/AIDS restrictions exist for visitors and foreign residents in the Kyrgyz Republic. An HIV test is required to apply for a work visa. Please verify this information with the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic before you travel.

Safety and Security

Crime : The greatest threat to travelers is street crime. There have been reports of muggings of foreigners in downtown Bishkek at night and areas outside of Bishkek. U.S. citizens should limit travel to the Batken province (Oblast). Other common crimes include auto theft and pickpocketing in crowded places such as markets, especially Bishkek’s Osh Bazaar, large department stores, internet cafes, and on public transportation. U.S. citizens have been robbed by groups of young men who followed them back to their residences from hotels and bars. In addition, U.S. citizens have been victims of rape, assault, sexual harassment, and kidnapping. Attackers do not always avoid violent confrontation with their victims.

The police are generally responsive to reports of crimes.

Harassment and extortion by imposters, genuine law enforcement, and other officials does occur. Never voluntarily give your wallet to anybody. If pressured by a police officer, tell the officer that you will report his behavior to the U.S. Embassy and to the officer’s supervisors. Try to obtain the officer's name, badge number, and license plate number, and note where the incident happened.

Demonstrations  occur frequently. They may take place in response to political or economic issues, on politically significant holidays, and during international events. 

• Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly become violent. 
• Avoid areas around protests and demonstrations. 
• Check local media for updates and traffic advisories.

Victims of Crime: U.S. citizen victims of sexual assault are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy for assistance. Report crimes to the local police at 112 and contact the U.S. Embassy at +996 (312) 597 000. Remember that local authorities are responsible for investigating and prosecuting crime.

Domestic Violence : U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence are encouraged to contact the Embassy for assistance. Crisis centers exist across Kyrgyzstan, but English-language assistance may be limited.

Tourism : The tourism industry is unevenly regulated, and safety inspections for equipment and facilities do not commonly occur. Hazardous areas/activities are not always identified with appropriate signage, and staff may not be trained or certified either by the host government or by recognized authorities in the field. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is typically available only in/near major cities. First responders are generally unable to access areas outside of major cities and to provide urgent medical treatment. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance. Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties: You are subject to local laws. If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned. Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

You must carry your passport, or a certified copy, with you at all times. If you are stopped by local officials, they may request proof of identity, citizenship, and permission to be in the Kyrgyz Republic (visa or entry stamp).

You may be taken in for questioning if you do not have your passport with you. For a fee and with a scheduled appointment, the U.S. Embassy can provide you with a certified copy of your passport, which may be used in lieu of a physical passport if stopped by local officials.

It is illegal to take pictures of certain buildings. Ask before taking pictures of anything of possible military or security interest, including government buildings, people in police or military uniforms, and food markets.

The legal blood alcohol level for driving in the Kyrgyz Republic is zero. Driving under the influence may land you immediately in jail, no matter how little you consumed.

Penalties for possessing, using, or trafficking in illegal drugs in the Kyrgyz Republic are severe, and convicted offenders can expect long jail sentences and heavy fines.

Counterfeit and Pirated Goods: Although counterfeit and pirated goods are prevalent in many countries, they may still be illegal according to local laws. LGBTQI+ Travelers : The Kyrgyz Republic does not recognize sexual orientation as a protected category within the context of discrimination and there are no laws that define hate crimes in the Kyrgyz Republic to include LGBTQI+ individuals.

LGBTQI+ individuals may be subject to discrimination in the application of current laws and many LGBTQI+ individuals report that they are often threatened and harassed by law enforcement officials.

Travelers with Disabilities : The law in the Kyrgyz Republic prohibits discrimination against persons with physical, sensory, intellectual and mental disabilities, but the law is not enforced. Social acceptance of persons with disabilities in public is not as prevalent as in the United States. Access to sidewalks and public buildings may be limited due to a lack of ramps or access points. Public infrastructure is limited and may be in poor condition. Expect accessibility to be limited in public transportation, lodging, communication/information, and general infrastructure. Conditions in rural or outlying areas are substantially worse than in developed areas.

Limited possibilities exist for repair or replacement of personal aids/equipment/devices. Sign language interpretation options are limited. Personal assistants are available but may not have comparable training or experience to personal assistants in the United States.

Hunting and Trekking Issues: It is illegal to hunt without a proper license. You must get a permit from the Kyrgyz government prior to arrival in country to import or own firearms in the country.

Foreigners who do not have official permission to hunt or take animals out of the country may face criminal and/or civil charges. 

Public medical clinics lack basic resources and supplies.

Hospitals and doctors often require payment “up front” prior to service or admission. Credit card payment is not always available. Most hospitals and medical professionals require cash payment.

U.S. citizens often travel outside of the Kyrgyz Republic for medical treatment, including many routine procedures. Medical staff rarely speak English, and prices for treatment are not fixed.

Psychological and psychiatric services are limited, even in the larger cities, with hospital-based care only available through government institutions.

Ambulance services are not widely available, and the training and availability of emergency responders may be below U.S. standards. Emergency responders may not be present throughout the country or are unreliable in most areas except Bishkek, Osh, and other large cities. Ambulances are not equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and are typically not staffed with trained paramedics. Injured or seriously ill travelers, particularly outside of metropolitan areas, may prefer to take a taxi, private ambulance, or private vehicle to the nearest major hospital rather than wait for an ambulance.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance : Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. We strongly recommend  supplemental insurance  to cover medical evacuation in the event of unforeseen medical complications.

Always carry prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription. Prescriptions must be translated into Russian. Check with the  Ministry of Health’s register of medications  to ensure that your medication is legal in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Vaccinations:  Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

• The security situation remains fluid in areas along the Kyrgyz-Tajik and Kyrgyz-Uzbek borders due to simmering ethnic and cross-border tensions, as well as the presence of narco-trafficking routes. Border areas are closed to foreigners and restrictions are enforced along the Chinese, Tajik, and Uzbek borders. Border areas with Tajikistan in Batken province are particularly sensitive and the location of a significant police and military presence.  

Tuberculosis is prevalent in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Air pollution is a significant problem in several major cities in the Kyrgyz Republic. Consider the impact seasonal smog and heavy particulate pollution may have on you and consult your doctor before traveling if necessary.

The air quality varies considerably and fluctuates with the seasons. It is typically at its worst in the winter. People at the greatest risk from particle pollution exposure include:

• Infants, children, and teens
• People over 65 years of age
• People with lung disease such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema
• People with heart disease or diabetes
• People who work or are active outdoors

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety: Traffic accidents involving serious injury to drivers, passengers, and pedestrians are common.

Many city roads are hazardous due to potholes, uncovered manholes, poor lighting, and pedestrians ignoring oncoming traffic.

There is no roadside assistance infrastructure. Outside of metropolitan areas, roads are generally poor.

Mountain roads in the Kyrgyz Republic are often narrow and treacherous, and may close without notice due to snow, ice, or rockslides. Guardrails and barriers are often missing.

Traffic Laws: You must obey all local traffic laws. Passengers must wear seat belts and motorcycle riders must wear helmets.

Drunk driving and hit-and-run accidents are significant problems.

Drivers often speed on the newly upgraded roads that connect main cities and towns.

Many local drivers do not stop at red lights, pass vehicles when it is dangerous or prohibited to do so, drive into oncoming traffic, and do not stop for pedestrians.

Traffic police have been known to demand payment of arbitrary "fines" for purported infractions. Payment of traffic fines should be made at local banks. Some police vehicles now offer terminals for individuals with bank cards to pay their fines immediately.

International driving permits are recognized in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Public Transportation :

Buses tend to be very crowded and can be unsafe and unreliable.

U.S. Embassy personnel are restricted from utilizing public transportation due to the potential for crime, sexual harassment and assault.

Avoid using "private taxis" and unmarked taxis or entering a cab that already contains passengers.

Taxis ordered by telephone typically charge based on set rates; the driver’s cellular phone operates as the meter.

If hailing a taxi on the street, negotiate a fare prior to entering a cab. Cab drivers often try to charge foreigners a higher fare. Many taxi services now have cabs equipped with meters, but passengers should confirm that they are functional before entering the cab.

Electronic Visas for Kyrgyzstan

Failure to register will result in a 10,000 som fine, and border guards will not let you leave the country until it has been paid. This may result in missing flights and extra expenses.

Uzbekistan is a notable exception, as citizens do not need a visa but need to register.

There are some regions that require additional documentation in order to visit or pass through. Most of these regions are near the border with China, in Issyk-Kul and Naryn Provinces. Since Advantour cannot be liable for alpinism or adventure sports in these regions, the only option we will issue border permits is for light treks and guided tours in these regions. Be aware that attempting to travel to these regions without a permit can be dangerous, and may result in serious trouble with the Kyrgyz government. Anyone planning a visit to Europe from Kyrgyzstan should be aware of the Schengen Visa. This is an important consideration for Kyrgyzstani nationals as the visa has great benefits. The visa is currently valid in a total of 26 member countries across the European continent (known collectively as the Schengen Area ). This article provides comprehensive information on the Schengen Visa for Kyrgyzstani Citizens.

The Schengen Visa is a travel document that allows the holder to travel freely within the Schengen Area, without the need for additional paperwork. For example, if you begin your travel in France and wish to move on to Germany or Spain (or any other of the 26 member states) you can do so without the need to obtain additional visas. There are no internal borders to negotiate across the Schengen Area, making it simple move from one country to another.

Schengen Visa types for Kyrgyzstani Citizens

Before applying, you need to determine the type of visa you require. The following criteria will help you decide which visa is suitable for you:

A  Uniform Schengen Visa  permits the holder to stay in, or travel within, any country in the Schengen Area, for up to a maximum of 90 days at a time within a six-month period from the date of issue. These can be issued as:

• a single entry visa, meaning the holder can only enter/exit the Schengen Area once • a double entry visa allowing a second entry within the time period • a multiple entry visa which can be used multiple times (within the permitted time limits of the visa)

A  Limited Territorial Validity Visa  is available for travel only in the particular Schengen country that originally issued the visa. Holders of this type of visa are not permitted to enter any other Schengen member state. These visas are most often used in emergency/humanitarian situations where travel documents are not normally available.

Thirdly, there is a  National Visa . This particular visa is suitable for those who wish to study or work in any one of the Schengen countries and again is available as either a single or multiple entry.

Applying for a visa

Kyrgyzstani citizens wishing to apply for a visa must begin the process by arranging an appointment at an embassy. The embassy you choose for this should be either the one relating to the country you will begin your trip (first point of entry within the Schengen Area) or to the country in which you be spending the majority of your time. You can schedule your appointment online on the VFS website or, if you prefer, in person at a local VFS centre.

You should be aware that it may take up to 2 weeks to complete the process and you will probably wait up to another 10 days for the embassy to contact you; we would therefore recommend that you apply for your visa at least one full month prior to the date you wish to travel.

The following fees currently apply: Adult visa: 60 EUROS Long stay visa (>90 days): 99 EUROS Child visa (6-12 years): 35 EUROS

There will be no fee payable under certain conditions, such as for: children under the age of 6; diplomatic passport holders, students and accompanying teachers; researchers from third world countries and participants aged 25 and under at educational non-profit conferences or other events.

You will need to obtain an application form which can be downloaded from the embassy website or you may collect a hard copy from the embassy office. Along with the completed form, you will also be required to produce the following documentary evidence:

• two passport sized photographs adhering to the official standard (full-frontal head image between 32-36mm in height with a plain background; no red-eye, reflections or shadows) • a valid passport with at least two available blank pages • a sponsorship letter explaining the reason/objective of the visit and stating the duration • evidence of travel insurance purchased showing a minimum coverage of 30,000 EUROS • copies of all relevant travel tickets and a full itinerary for the trip, including accommodation bookings and any tourist packages • proof of applicant’s status, such as birth/marriage certificates and any national identity documents or cards • employment details, such as contracts, proof of income for the past six months, leave entitlement consent from your employer and any other documentation as requested • business credentials and licenses for self-employed persons along with IT returns and proof of financial means • for retirees, pension payment documents/evidence for past six months • for students, proof of enrolment and verification from school or college

The information and documentation provided by you will be scrutinised carefully by the embassy for authenticity. Once this process has been completed, you will be invited to attend an interview with an embassy official.

This is a very important part of the visa application process and it’s useful to know what to expect before you attend. The interviewer will ask you a series of questions to ascertain the reason for your travel. You will be asked to confirm all dates and your intended itinerary. Them, you will also be expected to confirm your financial status and may be asked to provide further evidence or documentation in support of this. Lastly, you will need to be able to prove that all necessary arrangements are in place and that you understand your obligations regarding the laws of the country/countries you are intending to visit, and confirm that you will return to Kyrgyzstan at the end of the visit as planned.

Kyrgyzstan Entry Requirements define all the rules that must be met in order to enter the country hassle-free. These requirements also specify the list of documents necessary to prepare prior to the planned trip.

One of the most essential documents that one must hold to travel to Kyrgyzstan is a valid passport. It should not expire for at least 180 days from the intended arrival date. Due to the recent Kyrgyz-Tajik conflict and the tense situation between these two countries, all travelers are advised to avoid traveling to the Batkeny region and the Kyrgyz-Tajik border areas. The Kyrgyz-Tajik land and air borders remain closed until further notice.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Kyrgyzstan followed other countries' decisions to introduce some additional restrictions aimed at minimizing the spread of the coronavirus. Nevertheless, all the covid-related requirements have already been scrapped. Incoming travelers no longer need to submit either a negative coronavirus test or vaccination certificate.

Please remember that all the coronavirus restrictions may change at short notice. Do always remember to check the up-to-date travel advice before any international travel.

Who can enter Kyrgyzstan?

The country welcomes all international travelers regardless of their vaccination status. Currently, there is no ban on any countries whose nationals would not be permitted to enter Kyrgyzstan.

Traveling from Kyrgyzstan

Traveling to Kyrgyzstan

Transit through Kyrgyzstan

When transiting through Kyrgyzstan, you will need to meet the requirements applicable to your final destination.

If you plan to pass through immigration (layover), for example, to spend a night in a hotel before taking a connecting flight the next day, you should follow the normal entry requirements for travelers visiting Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan visa requirements

Electronic visa.

Kyrgyzstan introduced the electronic visa system in 2017 to facilitate and speed up the application process. Online visa for Kyrgyzstan comes in three different types and can be obtained within only 3 business days.

The entire process can be completed online and requires applicants to simply fill out a short online form, cover the processing fee and receive the approved e-Visa to the email inbox.

Visa On Arrival

Kyrgyzstan offers the facility of Visa on Arrival. The visa can be issued only to certain travelers upon their arrival at the Kyrgyz borders.

Currently, the VoA is available only at the Manas International Airport, and the list of eligible applicants includes nationals of around 20 different countries.

Holders of Visa on Arrival can stay either 30 or 60 days in Kyrgyzstan - the permitted length of stay depends on the nationality.

Application for the VoA often involves spending long hours waiting in line at the immigration control. That is why individuals who are eligible for an online visa application should choose the online alternative.

Kyrgyz visa policy requires nationals of more than 40 different countries to obtain an embassy or consulate visa no matter the purpose or desired length of stay in Kyrgyzstan.

In order to get a regular visa for Kyrgyzstan, one must visit the nearest diplomatic mission and submit a visa application form which very often involves providing some supporting documents.

Travel insurance is not mandatory to travel to Kyrgyzstan. Nevertheless, due to the poor level of medical services in the country and their relatively high costs, all travelers to Kyrgyzstan are highly recommended to have comprehensive insurance, including medical transport. There is no requirement to purchase additional Covid-19 medical insurance.

Additionally, Kyrgyzstan requires visitors to have valid motor third-party liability insurance.

Citizens of the countries below can stay in Kyrgyzstan for an unlimited time: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Cuba, Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine.

Citizens of 2 countries can stay in Kyrgyzstan for up to 90 days: Mongolia and Turkey.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic announced the launching of E-Visa started from September 01, 2017.

E-Visa System gives an opportunity to obtain tourist or business visa for an applicant intending to visit the Kyrgyz Republic with the purpose of business and tourism for a period of up to 90 days by Internet, without applying to diplomatic representatives and consulates. Legal entities of the Kyrgyz Republic also can invite foreign citizens (individual and group) and apply for short term business and tourist visas via the E-visa system.

Short-term visas are given for 90 days and no force for the extension at the Kyrgyz Republic.

For obtaining e-visa, need to apply at http://www.evisa.e-gov.kg/index.php entering your personal contact details, information about your traveling to Kyrgyzstan, upload photo and passport scanned copy. Payment could be done by Visa Card or Master Card. The consideration period takes 3 days. Notification of confirmation or rejection with special QR-code will be sent to e-mail.

Foreign citizens with electronic visas of the Kyrgyz Republic can cross the State Border of the Kyrgyz Republic at the following check points: Manas Airport, Osh Airport, Chong-Kapka avtodorojniy, Chaldybar avtodorojniy, Ak-Jol avtodorojniy, Ak-Tilek avtodorojniy, Ak-Tilek avtodorojniy, Dostuk avtodorojniy, Kyzyl-Bel avtodorojniy, Kulunduu Avtodorojniy, Bor-Dobo avtodorojniy, Irkeshtam avtodorojniy, Torugart avtodorojniy.

Registration of foreign citizens at the State Registration Service

There is an order for registration of foreign citizens arriving in the Kyrgyz Republic. The registration is made by the territorial units of passport issuing office of the State Registration Service under the government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

For most of the Western countries representatives’ duration of stay without registration is 30-60 days. Some of the counties of CIS countries is 10 days (f.e. Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan). The rest of the foreigners not listed at these 92 countries, need to have a registration.

According to the Code of the Kyrgyz Republic “On administrative responsibility”, a foreign citizen who violates fixed terms of their stay in the Kyrgyz Republic will be fined in the amount of hundred standard units.

It is possible to apply for a visa to Kyrgyzstan in one of the following ways:

1) Upon arrival at Manas International Airport (visa on arrival).

 It is possible to get a Kyrgyzstan visa upon arrival at Manas International Airport (valid within the specified time) if you are from one of the following countries:

2. Applying for a visa to Kyrgyzstan online (eVisa to Kyrgyzstan) according to the following procedure:

- It is possible to apply for an e-visa to Kyrgyzstan through the official website of the government. This can be done by following the link .

- Check whether the applicant has the right to apply for an e-visa to Kyrgyzstan. In the "Information" tab, there is a "Do I need a visa" section. Generally, if the applicant is visa exempt or eligible for a visa on arrival, the applicant may also apply

application for an electronic visa to Kyrgyzstan.

- Run the program. Click the button "Submit a visa application" on the main page.

- Add a scanned copy of the passport and a passport-size photo.

- Pay the eVisa fee using a credit or debit card.

- Wait for the visa to be issued. This may take about a week. In the meantime, the applicant will receive a confirmation email and be able to check the status of their visa application.

Visa rules of Kyrgyzstan for issuing an electronic visa:

- The passport must be valid for more than six months from the estimated arrival date in Kyrgyzstan and contain at least one blank page. 

- It is important to apply for an electronic visa to Kyrgyzstan at least fifteen days before the expected arrival date. 

- US, UK and Canadian citizens can apply for an e-visa to Kyrgyzstan and enter the country with their passports valid for more than six months from the expected time of arrival in Kyrgyzstan. 

It is possible to use an electronic visa at the following entry points to Kyrgyzstan: Manas International Airport, Osh International Airport, Chon Kapka, Chaldibar border crossing, Ak-Zhol border crossing, Ak-Tilek border crossing, Dostuk border crossing, Kyzyl-Bel border crossing, Kulundu border crossing, Bor-Dobo border crossing, Irkeshtam border crossing, Torugart border crossing.

3) Submission of documents for a Kyrgyzstan visa at the embassy.

If the tourist is not eligible for a visa on arrival, e-visa or visa-free regime, he must apply for a visa to Kyrgyzstan at the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan.

A sponsor is required to obtain permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

Who can be a sponsor?

The sponsor of a visa to Kyrgyzstan can be:

- The owner of the house who invites the tourist

- Company or organization

- Travel agency in Kyrgyzstan.

The sponsor must contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan consular department to obtain a tourist authorization letter. Only after the tourist receives the letter, they can get the Kyrgyz embassy in his country to apply for a visa.

What to do if there is no Kyrgyz embassy in the tourist's country?

Suppose there is no Kyrgyz embassy in the tourist's country. In that case, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises contacting the visa department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Manas Airport in Bishkek immediately upon arrival. You need to have documents and a visa permit letter with you.

Requirements for obtaining a visa to Kyrgyzstan.

- Permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.*

- Completed visa application form.

- One passport-size photo, which is attached to the visa application form.

- Passport must be valid for at least another 90 days after the visa expires and have at least one more blank visa page.

- Payment of the fee for a visa to Kyrgyzstan. The visa fee varies depending on the tourist's country, the purpose of the visit and whether it is a single-entry or multiple-entry visa.

- Confirmation of travel arrangements, such as a plane ticket and proof of residence.

- If the tourist applies by post, a self-addressed, prepaid envelope must be included so the embassy can return the documents.

*Those who are exempt from visa requirements or eligible for a visa on arrival do not need a visa permit.

Additional required or supporting documents from certain applicants:

Self-employed:

- a copy of the latest income tax or relevant bank statements or documents;

- proof of activity such as bank statements, invoices, or receipts.

- employment contract

- a letter from the company stating the applicant's absence, length of stay and confirmation of a return to the current job;

- bank account statement for the last six months

- confirmation of enrollment and a certificate of no objection from the registered school/higher educational institution

- sponsorship letter, if the applicant cannot support himself financially during the stay period.

What is visa sponsorship for Kyrgyzstan?

Visa assistance is required in Kyrgyzstan if the applicant cannot cover their expenses for educational or tourist purposes during their stay.

A sponsor can be a parent, sibling, relative, or friend. However, it will increase the chances of obtaining a visa if the sponsor is a first-degree relative or has a permanent residence permit or citizenship in Kyrgyzstan.

Required documents from the sponsor:

3) Study visa to Kyrgyzstan. This type of visa allows the holder to stay in the country if he is studying at a higher education institution in Kyrgyzstan. 4) Private visa to Kyrgyzstan ("G"). 5)A diplomatic visa ("D") is issued to a foreign citizen, holder of a diplomatic passport, who intends to visit the Kyrgyz Republic for official purposes.

A diplomatic visa is issued:

- heads of foreign states, governments, family members who accompany them, and members of official foreign delegations. In this case, a multiple-entry visa is issued for up to 30 days unless otherwise provided by an international treaty to which the Kyrgyz Republic is a party or by the principle of reciprocity.

- to a person who holds a diplomatic or consular position in a diplomatic mission or consular institution of a foreign state, the head of a representative office of an international organization in the Kyrgyz Republic, who enjoys immunity and privileges in the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as family members (wife and children under 18 years of age), adults and dependent parents), enjoy immunity and privileges. The indicated persons are issued a multiple-entry visa for a term of up to 1 year unless otherwise stipulated by an international treaty to which the Kyrgyz Republic is a party or by the principle of reciprocity.

6) An official visa ("O") is issued to a foreign citizen:

- to the holder of an official passport who intends to visit the Kyrgyz Republic for official purposes; to a foreign citizen who enters the Kyrgyz Republic at the invitation of state institutions of the Kyrgyz Republic on official matters.

These persons are issued a single, double or multiple-entry visa for up to 90 days;

- a member of the administrative, technical, and service staff of a diplomatic mission or consular institution of a foreign country in the Kyrgyz Republic or an employee of a representative office of an international organization (husband and children under 18 years of age, as well as dependent parents). The indicated persons are issued a multiple-entry visa for up to 1 year unless otherwise provided by an international treaty in force to which the Kyrgyz Republic is a party or by the principle of reciprocity.

- a foreign courier who transports diplomatic post is issued a single, double or multiple-entry visa for up to 90 days unless otherwise stipulated by an international treaty in force, to which the Kyrgyz Republic is a party, or on the principle of reciprocity (in the absence of a diplomatic passport).

7) Investment visa ("I") – a multiple-entry visa for up to 3 years is issued to an investor or the head of a foreign investment company and his family members (wife, minor children, and dependent parents) who carry out investment activities in the Kyrgyz Republic and submit the necessary supporting documents confirming their contribution to the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic of monetary and material values ​​equivalent to 10 (ten) million Som for industrial, agricultural, financial, energy, educational, medical, engineering and construction purposes, as well as IT technologies.

8) Religious Visa ("P") is issued to a missionary who intends to visit the Kyrgyz Republic to cooperate with religious organizations (with the permission of the relevant state body) for a period of up to 60 days.

9) Family visa ("F") is issued to family members (husband/wife, minor children, and dependent parents) of a foreign citizen residing in the Kyrgyz Republic under the following conditions: official ("O"), employment ("W1" and "W2"), educational ("S") visa categories, and based on a residence permit, for a period of up to 1 year with the possibility of annual extension without the right to work.

10) Relative visa ("RL") is issued to a foreigner to visit close relatives who are citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic.

11) Ethnic Kyrgyz ("M") visa is issued to ethnic Kyrgyz and persons born on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic who have the opportunity to obtain the status of "Kairilman".

12) Exit visa ("L") is issued to foreigners who have exceeded the period of stay for leaving the Kyrgyz Republic (issued for up to 10 days).

13) A mountain tourism visa (MT) is issued to a foreign citizen to visit the Kyrgyz Republic for the purpose of alpine tourism (mountaineering, rock climbing, snowboarding, rafting, freeriding, etc.).

Registration of foreign citizens and stateless persons arriving in the Kyrgyz Republic is carried out by the territorial units of the Passport Issuance Department of the Department of Population Registration and Civil Status Acts of the State Registration Service under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.

Registration of foreign citizens and stateless persons arriving in the Kyrgyz Republic as tourists and for private purposes is carried out on the basis of the submission of the following documents:

1. For private individuals acting as an acceptor:

- application of a foreign citizen or stateless person;

- a request letter from the receiving party. The receiving party can be citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, foreign citizens and stateless persons who have a permanent residence permit; power of attorney from an individual if a representative submits the invitation;

3. Registration of foreign citizens or stateless persons who have the kyrilman status* is carried out for the period of validity of the kyrilman certificate, subject to the submission of the following documents:

- a statement of a foreign citizen or a stateless person recognized as a Kyrilman, or a request letter from the host party. The receiving party can be citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic, foreign citizens, and stateless persons who have a permanent residence permit, as well as legal entities;

- power of attorney on behalf of an individual or legal entity, if a representative submits the request;

- certificate of a kyrilman, issued by an authorized state body in the field of migration, and its copy; a passport of a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic, a permanent residence permit of a foreign citizen or a stateless person who is the receiving party, and its copies;

Registration of foreign citizens or stateless persons arriving in the Kyrgyz Republic for official purposes based on cooperation with religious organizations or for other purposes is carried out upon submission of the following documents:

- request of the receiving party (the receiving party can be legal entities), a passport of a foreign citizen or a stateless person or another identity document, a valid visa and its copies

(unless otherwise stipulated by international treaties to which the Kyrgyz Republic is a party;

- power of attorney on behalf of a legal entity, if a representative submits the request;

Registration of foreign citizens or stateless persons who have the status of a refugee, or a person who requests to be recognized as a refugee, is carried out for the period of validity of the refugee card or the card of the person seeking the refugee issued by the authorized state body in the field of migration.

Sharing the top spot with France, Germany opens doors to 194 countries without the need for a visa in advance. Whether it's admiring the scenic beauty of Ireland or immersing oneself in the cultural tapestry of Croatia, German passport holders enjoy unparalleled travel freedom.

With a passport ranking of 194, Italian citizens have the freedom to travel across multiple countries seamlessly. Whether exploring the ancient wonders of Peru or experiencing the lively streets of Singapore, the opportunities for discovery are limitless.

Celebrated for its effectiveness and hospitality, Japan generously offers its passport holders visa-free entry to 194 countries. Whether they're immersing themselves in the tranquil atmosphere of Finland or discovering the architectural wonders of Belgium, Japanese travelers are embraced with open arms wherever they go.

As a global hub of commerce and culture, Singapore's passport holders enjoy the privilege of visa-free access to 194 destinations worldwide.

Citizens of over 102 countries are eligible for a visa-free entry to the State of Qatar. Allowable lengths of stay vary, and visitors are kindly advised to check with an authorised entity for the terms and conditions that apply.

Visiting Qatar made easy

Visitors from all around the world can enter Qatar either by obtaining visa on arrival, or by filling out simple online applications, depending on the passport they carry.

This webpage  is designed to keep you up-to-date on the visa policies that are relevant to you, and the process you need to follow to apply for a visa, if necessary.

Visa-free entry

Nationals of eligible countries do not require any prior visa arrangements and can obtain a visa waiver upon arrival to Qatar, by presenting a valid passport with a minimum validity of three months and a confirmed onward or return ticket. 

For nationals of the countries/regions listed below, the waiver will be valid for 30 days from the date of issuance and entitle its holder to spend up to 30 days in Qatar.

Andorra, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Georgia, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Macao, Macedonia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, San Marino, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Suriname, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Uruguay, Uzbekistan Vatican city and Venezuela.

For nationals of the countries/regions listed below, the waiver will be valid for 180 days from the date of issuance and entitle its holder to spend up to 90 days in Qatar during either a single trip or on multiple trips.

Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Seychelles, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine. 

Qatar-Oman Joint Tourist Visa (Visa on Arrival)

This visa is issued upon arrival and is valid for 30 days for the State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman. It allows for multiple entry to both countries and is extendable for an additional 30 days for a fee. Citizens of the following countries are eligible for the joint visa:

Visa on arrival – mandated hotel requirement

The Ministry of Interior Qatar currently requires nationals of the countries / regions listed below to hold registration booked through   Discover Qatar website   prior to travelling to Qatar.

India, Iran, Pakistan, Thailand.

Tourist visas

The Qatar tourist visa is available to nationals of all countries, except GCC citizens, but citizens of over 101 countries are eligible for a free visa on arrival (see Visa-free entry above). Travellers of select nationalities will require to pay a fee to obtain a visa on arrival or apply for a tourist visa prior to travel. Visas can be applied for on the  Hayya platform for a cost of QAR 100.

Applying for a visa using the Hayya platform

Thanks to a host of visa facilitation measures, Qatar is now the most open country in the Middle East. Visitors from all around the world can now enter Qatar either by obtaining visa on arrival, or by filling out simple online applications, depending on the passport they carry.

Hayya card validity extended until 2024

Are you a Hayya Card holder living outside the State of Qatar? We’ve got news! 

The validity of the Hayya Card has been extended and will now allow Hayya Card holders to enter the State of Qatar until February, 2024.

Travel requirements: 

- Proof of a confirmed hotel reservation or accommodation with family or friends approved through the Hayya portal

- Passport valid for no less than three months upon arrival in the State of Qatar 

- Valid health insurance during the period of stay in the country. We recommend all travellers visiting the State of Qatar to have a valid health insurance policy covering Qatar's medical facilities. Those who don’t already have an insurance policy are welcome to purchase one on arrival in the State of Qatar. For more information on travel insurance, click  here .

- Return tickets

All Hayya card holders visiting Qatar will have access to the following:

- The 'Hayya with Me' feature' allowing Hayya Card holders to invite up to three family members or friends

- A multiple-entry permit 

- No fees will apply

Qatar Transit Visa

Qatar Airways passengers transiting in Hamad International Airport for a minimum of 5 hours are eligible to apply for the Qatar Transit Visa. It is free of charge, valid for up to 96 hours (four days) and open to passengers of all nationalities**.

Visa Exemptions

Nationals of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates) do not require a visa to enter Qatar.

Mandatory health insurance

We recommend all travellers visiting the State of Qatar to have a valid health insurance policy covering Qatar's medical facilities. Those who don’t already have an insurance policy are welcome to purchase one on arrival in the State of Qatar. For more information on travel insurance, click  here .
