Where to Watch Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central on NBC
This all-star lineup will deliver an amazing night of music.
Michigan Central Station will soon re-open, not as a train depot but as a dining and shopping hub for Detroit, and to inaugurate its new era, a bevy of Detroit icons are coming together for a one-night-only performance. Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central will stream live on Peacock and subsequently air on NBC, and you don't want to miss it. Keep reading for all the information.
Who is performing in Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central ?
The outdoor spectacular will take place on June 6, though in-person tickets are sold out. The 90-minute concert includes Michigan natives Diana Ross, Big Sean, Illa J, Jack White, Kierra Sheard, Theo Parrish, Slum Village, the Clark Sisters, Sky Jetta and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Detroit Lions Barry Sanders will also make an appearance.
Non-Michigan-ians are on the lineup too, like Common, Fantasia, Melissa Etheridge and Jelly Roll , and presenters Mike Epps and Sophia Bush. Eminem , who paid tribute to his hometown of Detroit in his semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile , is an executive producer of the event.

What is Michigan Central used for now?
The train station opened in 1913, the tallest of its kind in the world at the time. However, it closed in 1988 and remained unoccupied until the Ford Motor Company purchased the building in 2018. It's been under restoration since, and the concert marks the beginning of its gradual opening to the public as both a site of historical importance and bustling business.
"Detroit is known around the world for its musical talent, and having so many legendary artists kick off the celebration for the reopening of the iconic Michigan Central Station shows how meaningful this moment is for our city,” said Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in a press release. “This historic landmark symbolizes Detroit’s resilience, innovation, and now, its bright future. This is about more than preserving a piece of our past. It also is about paving the way for a new era of growth and opportunity for all Detroiters.”

Saturday Night Live has no fewer than eight songs in contention for outstanding original music & lyrics at this year’s Primetime Emmy Creative Arts Awards. The roster includes Maya Rudolph ’s “Mothers Day Monologue,” in which she sings a “Vogue”-inspired song that pays tribute to the women of SNL as she strides through Studio 8H, and “Dune Popcorn Bucket,” in which the show that gave us “Dick in a Box” tries to top itself.
Four of the videos accompanying these songs feature major recording stars. Chris Stapleton shows personality and an unexpected flair for comedy in “Get That Boy Back.” Travis Scott is featured in “We Got Too High,” in which three kids are try in vain to keep up with the rap star’s marijuana use. Billie Eilish has some silly fun in “Tampon Farm.” Dave Grohl has a cameo as a minister at the end of “Lake Beach.”
These catchy and satirical songs are overseen by SNL ’s music director Eli Brueggemann (who won in this category in 2018 for co-writing “Come Back Barack”) and music producer Jake Procanik.
Three SNL songs have won in this category over the years – “ Dick in a Box ,” the 2007 song from a Justin Timberlake -hosted episode that somehow managed to be both audacious and kinda sweet at the same time; “ Justin Timberlake Monologue ” (2011), in which JT sings a song about how he absolutely won’t sing that night; and “ Come Back Barack ,” a Boyz II Men-style ballad from a Chance the Rapper -hosted episode about how people in the Donald Trump years missed his more even-keeled predecessor.
SNL is currently tied with the annual Tony Awards telecast for having the most winners in this category. Three songs from the Tonys, all performed by host Neil Patrick Harris , won the award in 2012-14 – “ It’s Not Just for Gays Anymore ,” a sensational opening number from the 2011 show; “ If I Had Time ,” a very clever closing number from the 2012 show; and “ Bigger! ,” from the 2013 show, quite possibly the biggest opening number on any awards show ever. Who said less is more?
The outstanding original music & lyrics category originated in 1970. Notable winners over the years have included EGOT recipients Marvin Hamlisch and Robert Lopez; Broadway powerhouses Kander & Ebb and Lin-Manuel Miranda; Hot 100 chart-toppers Timberlake, Melanie, Walter Murphy, David Paich (Toto) and Ed Sheeran; and TV stars Seth MacFarlane, Sarah Silverman, Seth Meyers and Kenan Thompson.
Nominations for the 76th annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on July 17. The 2024 Creative Arts Emmys will be held on Sept. 7-8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The primetime Emmy telecast will be held on Sept. 15 at the same venue.
Here you can watch the eight SNL songs that are in contention for this year’s Primetime Emmy for outstanding original music & lyrics.
“Lake Beach”
Music & Lyrics: James Austin Johnson, Andrew Dismukes, Streeter Seidell, Dan Bulla, Eli
Date: Oct. 28, 2023
Host/Musical guest: Nate Bargatze/Foo Fighters
Notes: This caricature of rural “bro country” was about a decade late, though the name of the supposed record label this song is released on (Red State Records) is clever. The stars of the country trio are host Bargatze and rep players James Austin Johnson and Andrew Dismukes. Dave Grohl, leader of the week’s musical guests, Foo Fighters, has a cameo.
“Rome Song”
Music & Lyrics: Streeter Seidell, Dan Bulla, Josh Patten
Date: Nov. 18, 2023
Host/Musical guest: Jason Momoa/Tate McRae
Notes: Three women (rep players Ego Nwodim and Punkie Johnson and featured player Chloe Troast) wonder what their partners (guest star Momoa and rep players Kenan Thompson and Mikey Day) are thinking about.
“Tampon Farm”
Music & Lyrics: Kate McKinnon, Alison Gates, Eli
Date: Dec. 16, 2023
Host/Musical guest: Kate McKinnon/Billie Eilish
Notes: Eilish, Barbie director Greta Gerwig, former cast members Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig, and former, longtime SNL writer Paula Pell all pop up in the video, playing women who work on a tampon farm.
“Dune Popcorn Bucket”
Music & Lyrics: Dan Bulla, Steven Castillo, Josh Patten
Date: Feb. 3, 2024
Host/Musical guest: Ayo Edebiri/Jennifer Lopez
Notes: AMC Theaters released a limited-edition sandworm popcorn bucket to tie into the release of Dune: Part Two . The bucket’s uncanny resemblance to a popular sex toy made it ripe for parody, none better than this video in which a teenager earnestly looks forward to his first time – with a popcorn bucket. Host Ayo Edebiri is featured, along with rep player Bowen Yang and featured players Marcello Hernández, Devon Walker and Chloe Troast.
“Airplane Song”
Music & Lyrics: Auguste White, Andrew Dismukes, Gary Richardson, Eli
Date: March 9, 2024
Host/Musical guest: Josh Brolin/Ariana Grande
Notes: Rep player Andrew Dismukes is very good in this highly relatable story of someone who, bored on a plane, watches someone else’s screen. Host Brolin is passenger whose space is being invaded.
“We Got Too High”
Music & Lyrics: John Higgins, Martin Herlihy, Ben Marshall, Dan Bulla, Josh Patten
Date: March 30, 2024
Host/musical guest: Ramy Youssef, Travis Scott
Notes: Ben Marshall, John Higgins and Martin Herlihy ( SNL staff writers who double as the comedy troupe Please Don’t Destroy) party with the week’s musical guest, Travis Scott.
“Get That Boy Back”
Music & Lyrics: Ben Marshall, Ceara O’Sullivan, Chloe Troast, Eli
Date: April 13, 2024
Host/Musical guest: Ryan Gosling/Chris Stapleton
Notes: A group of women (rep players Ego Nwodim and Chloe Fineman and featured player Chloe Troast) sing about getting revenge on the men who done them wrong. The song owes a debt to Carrie Underwood’s car-scratching classic “Before He Cheats.” Stapleton, the week’s musical guest, has a funny part in the video.
“Mothers Day Monologue”
Music & Lyrics: Maya Rudolph, August White, Mike DiCenzo, Jake Nordwind & Eli
Date: May 11, 2024
Host/Musical guest: Maya Rudolph/Vampire Weekend
Notes: Rudolph’s song, in which she pays homage to women at SNL over the years, owes a clear debt to Madonna’s 1990 classic “Vogue.”

Pat Sajak set for final 'Wheel of Fortune' episode after more than four decades: 'An odd road'
It's been a spincredible run for "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak, but it's coming to an end.
Sajak, 77, is retiring Friday from the syndicated hangman-style puzzle game show ( check local listings ) after 41 seasons and 8,010 episodes, holding the Guinness Book of World Records spot for longest-running host on the same show.
Since 1981, the dry-witted Sajak has helmed "Wheel of Fortune" with a star boost from co-host and vaunted letter-turner Vanna White , to massive global popularity.
"It's been an amazing run, no doubt about it," says Ron Simon, curator at the Paley Center for Media. "Pat has exuded good humor and fellowship visiting America's home each weeknight for more than four decades. Pat and Vanna have become part of the family. It's the end of a game show era."
Who will replace Pat Sajak On 'Wheel of Fortune?' Hint: He was 7 when Sajak began hosting.
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
The departing host has taped a farewell to the TV audience for Friday's show. But Sajak avoided a farewell media tour, giving his only exit interview to his daughter Maggie Sajak, who joined the show as its social correspondent in 2021. Sajak called his tenure "awfully gratifying" in the interview, posted to the "Wheel of Fortune" media sites.
"This was announced a long time ago, almost a year ago. So I've had time to sort of get used to it. And it's been a little bit wistful and all that," Sajak told his daughter, "I've been enjoying it, taking it all in and reflecting on the great run."
The Army veteran took a trip down career memory lane, detailing a career that included a Vietnam War stint working the morning show on Armed Forces Radio (with the traditional greeting, "Good morning, Vietnam!").
How did Pat Sajak start hosting 'Wheel of Fortune'?
Sajak bounced around TV jobs from Nashville, Tennessee, to Los Angeles in the 1970s. While working as a witty weatherman on Los Angeles' KNBC, Sajak impressed gameshow impresario Merv Griffin, the creator of "Jeopardy!" and "Wheel."
Griffin insisted Sajak take over the NBC version of "Wheel" after its original host, Chuck Woolery, left in a 1981 contract dispute. Griffin's choice came despite strong network objection, his son Tony Griffin recalled in a 2010 TV interview.
"My dad said, 'Contractually, I can shut down the show unless you hire Pat Sajak,'" Tony Griffin said. "They hired Pat Sajak the next day."

The 35-year-old Sajak waltzed into his "Wheel" debut on Dec. 28, 1981 , joining co-host Susan Stafford. “Please do not adjust your sets at home. Chuck Woolery has not shrunk,” Sajak told viewers. "I’ve been fortunate enough to wander onto the set of a very successful program."
Yet Sajak did not have big expectations for the low-rated show, expecting his stint to last maybe two years. But "Wheel" started gaining momentum. White replaced Stafford in 1982, and the next year, the show began its evening syndicated run on local stations.
"And 41 years later, here I am," Sajak said in his interview. "It's an odd road."
Contestants' frequent requests to Sajak – "I'd like to buy a vowel" – became part of the vernacular. "Somewhere along the line, we became more than a popular show; we became part of the popular culture," Sajak recalled.
Pat Sajak parodied on 'South Park' and 'SNL'
Sajak, White and "Wheel of Fortune" have been parodied on everything from Comedy Centrral's "South Park" to NBC's "Saturday Night Live " and Nickelodeon's "Rugrats" (Sajak voiced himself in the latter). The witty host became a big enough personality to host his own short-lived late-night CBS talk show, "The Pat Sajak Show," from January 1989 to April 1990.
In the internet era, Sajak accidentally created regular viral moments with his sometimes awkward guest interactions. The National Review contributor drew controversy by exposing his right-wing views and posting global-warming denialist social media posts.
However, with an annual salary estimated by Forbes at $15 million in 2016 , Sajak leaves "Wheel of Fortune" with his own sizable fortune. He's still perplexed by the secret of the show's longevity.
"If I knew, I'd be out creating other shows with the same secret, and I'd be a wealthy man," Sajak said in his interview, before adding, "Oh, I am....That's a joke."
Who will take over 'Wheel of Fortune' from Pat Sajak?
The show will go on. ABC's primetime "Celebrity Wheel of Fortune" is plotting a return for a new season, with the possibility that Sajak and White will host. Meanwhile, White will remain on "Wheel of Fortune, with Ryan Seacrest stepping into Sajak's shoes in September. Seacrest, 49, who also hosts ABC's "American Idol," was just 7 when Sajak started hosting "Wheel."
“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest said last September on Instagram . "I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White.”

It's been temporarily paused since 2020 due to the pandemic (at least based on looking at archives of the web site). I wouldn't count on it coming back any time soon. 4. Reply. wampler23. • 10 mo. ago. Was there 2 weeks ago.
It's sooooo much fun- do it! We went on a Friday and when they brought us up to see Studio 8H, they were actually rehearsing a skit and we saw the whole cast of SNL and Sophia Vergara who was hosting! It was so neat! She will love it, even if you don't see anyone! 4.
You went to the NBC store and bought Community stuff. The Studio Tour leaves from the NBC store. Anyone can buy tickets to go to the tour, they are about $25 each, I think. Presumably they limit the number of tickets for operational reasons that take precedence over your scheduling preference. Buy tickets for Saturday. I'm going to New York in December and am trying to decide on when to do the NBC Studio Tour. I'm between a Friday (12/15) and Saturday (12/16), and reading old posts from 5+ years ago it seems like there's variability on whether they show 8H. I would really hate to go on a day when it's super busy and they don't show the studio to tours.
Did it twice. Its a fun little thing to do as a tourist that isn't to expensive. I recommend. I just asked a question, I'm so sorry. cries lol. I went a while ago. It's interesting enough. If it's more than $30 now skip it. I've always wanted to see a tour.. or a show like SNL or something. So then do it.

I've been, we went on a weekend SNL wasn't filming so they took us to 8H. I get the impression they always take you there when they can as it's such a popular studio, and also one of the most interesting due to it's history.
