Tanzania Tourist Board
Tanzania Tourist Board is a government organisation which was legally established under Tanzania Tourist Board act, CAP 364 of 1962 and amended by act No. 18 of 1992. TTB was formed after the disbandment of the Tanzania Tourist Corporation. The Board is mandated with promotion and development of all the aspects of tourism industry in Tanzania.
Tourism becomes the number one contributing sector to the GDP by the year 2025 .
To promote sustainable tourism both domestically and internationally through innovative and dynamic awareness creation, in order to contribute significantly to the social – economic development of Tanzania .
The main functions of the Tanzania Tourist Board are:
- To adopt all such measures as it may consider necessary to advertise and publicize Tanzania as a popular tourist destination
- To encourage by such measures as it may deem fit for the development of such amenities in Tanzania as it may enhance the attractiveness of Tanzania to tourists;
- To undertake research, experiments and operations as may appear to be necessary to improve the basis of the tourist industry
- To foster an understanding within Tanzania of the importance and economic benefits of the tourist industry
- To make all such inquiries and collect all such information as it may deem necessary for the purpose of carrying out its functions.
Board of Directors
Tanzania Tourist Board has the Board of Directors which is appointed after every three years. The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism appoints the directors.

The 8th Edition of the Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE) will be held in Tanzania's commercial city of Dar-es-Salaam from 11th to 13th October 2024. The event will focus on inbound and outbound travel to and within Africa. S!TE aims to draw a lot of tourism and travel professionals from all over the world.
The event will aim at promoting Tanzania’s tourism to international markets and facilitating the linking of companies based in Tanzania, Eastern and Central Africa with tourism companies from other parts of the world.
The exhibition will have the character of a business networking event for the tourism industry, with components of a social dimension to attract local people, families, and experts over the weekend.

Samia appoints new tourist board chief in latest government reshuffle

Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed a new chief of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) in the latest reshuffle of government technocrats.
Mr Ephraim Mafuru, who was serving as the chief executive officer of the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC), is now the new director general of the tourist board, replacing Mr Damasi Mfugale, whose appointment has been revoked.
The decision was communicated in a statement issued by the director of Presidential Communications at the State House, Ms Zuhura Yunus.

Additionally, President Hassan revoked the appointment of Richard Kiiza as the commissioner of conservation of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) but did not announce his replacement.
The President also appointed Mr Ally Senga Gugu, who previously served as the Regional Administrative Secretary for the Dodoma region, to become the permanent secretary of the ministry of Home Affairs.
His position was taken by Mr Kasper Mmuya, who was appointed as the new regional administrative secretary for Dodoma. Mr Mmuya is the outgoing permanent secretary of the ministry of Home Affairs.
The changes also involved the appointment of Ms Mwajuma Waziri, who was deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Water, to become permanent secretary, replacing Prof Jamal Katundu, whose appointment was revoked.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed former Hospitality Association of Tanzania Head Damasi Mfugale as the new Managing Director of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).
Mfugale replaces Felix John who was the Acting MD since 2021. Mfugale, who has been managing the family-owned Peacock Hotel in Dar es Salaam, has an MA in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from IMI Switzerland and is a seasoned hospitality industry person.
He is expected to continue the growth trajectory of its tourism as it sees incredible recovery numbers.
Making it a lead economic priority under her administration, President Samia Suluhu launched the historic royal tour last year to invite the world to come and experience alluring Tanzania tourism products.
Profile Mfugale has a master’s in Arts (MA) in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from International Management Institute (IMI) Switzerland. Mfugale is a consultant for the African Chapter of EBI International Consulting Group in Canada.
With twenty years of professional tourism and hospitality experience in Switzerland, the USA, Tanzania and South Africa, Damasi has progressive advancement and consistent achievement within the private sector and government-funded agencies and institutions. He has extensive work experience as a Chairman, Member of Boards, and Director in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Damasi has an excellent reputation in defining corporate direction, providing leadership by engaging employees, being customer focused, and promoting individual and institutional objectives attainment. An inclusive and collaborative leader and a manager that strives to build strong commitment, competence, and motivation; at the same time fixing success processes to safeguard productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, and quality to achieve the essential performance results and organizational mission.
Possessing extensive professional local and international networks supported by outstanding qualifications in building and managing business partnerships, Damasi helped organizations to relate better to the industry stakeholders.
