SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World Fishes

SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World has 12 zones with over 30,000 sea creatures .

You’ll see cool ocean predators like sand tiger sharks and giant pacific octopuses, plus many fish like clownfish and lionfish. There are also seahorses, green sea turtles, and penguins!

We checked out every zone and took lots of great photos of these marine animals.

Below, I’ll show you all 12 zones with my photo collection.

1. Coral Reefs

Vibrant Corals and Clownfish

Kick off your SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World adventure at Coral Reefs . This section is loaded with many vibrant corals .

And of course, corals are the home to many fishes. So, take time to capture all the fish species here.

Lionfish, Scorpionfish, and Triggerfishes

This area is also known for its tricky predators with unique body designs .

Spot these strange-looking creatures navigating through their habitat while hunting small fishes.

To give you an overview, these are the lionfish , scorpionfish , and triggerfishes .

Batfishes, Angelfishes, and Butterflyfishes

These fish species are some of the most vivid-looking creatures in the aquarium.

And because of their pulsating colors and delicate features, they are very much admired by aquarium lovers.

Ribbon Eels, Spotted Garden Eels, and Dog-faced Pufferfish

Also on display are two types of eels― ribbon eels and spotted garden eels .

And of course, you can’t miss the dog-faced pufferfish . These species come with special features that make them highly interesting.

Jackass Penguins

Step into Rocky Shore and witness these adorable creatures doing their daily routines. You can often find them wandering on the ground or swimming under the water.

On top of that, you can catch the jackass penguins being fed with small fishes.

Jackass Penguins Swimming

Just like most penguins, they love to dive deep and spend most of their time swimming―alone or in a group.

Plus, these animals communicate animatedly. You might even be surprised by their donkey sounds!

Sand Tiger Sharks

Stroll around the Ocean Tunnel and have a personal encounter with the famous predators of SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World.

One of the many animals here are the sand tiger sharks , which are known for their creepy eyes and pointed snouts.

Eagle Rays, Leopard Whiprays, Shovel Nose Rays, and Leopard Sharks

Also in this area are different rays such as eagle rays , leopard whiprays , and shovel nose rays . Each of these has its own unique body pattern.

Giant Goliath Groupers and Bluefin Tuna

These animals are quite easy to distinguish because of their size.

The giant bluefin tuna , in particular, is the largest tuna species while the giant goliath grouper can grow up to 8 feet.

Shark Shipwreck

If you’re interested in large marine predators, simply head to Shark Shipwreck .

In this part, you will have a chance to come across different shark species .

From your seat, you can watch the divers swim together with these dangerous creatures .

Sharks

Most of these sharks have frightening physical appearance and massive size. However, not all of them are tough predators.

So, if you want an exceptional experience, don’t miss this amazing man-made shipwreck in SEA LIFE Bangkok.

Longfin Bannerfish and Yellowfin Surgeonfish

Tropical Ocean is another must-visit aquarium because of its vivid fishes .

Take time to see the Longfin Bannerfishes and appreciate its beautiful colors of white and yellow.

There are also the yellowfin surgeonfishes that change colors as they age.

Honeycomb Morays

On the other hand, the honeycomb moray eels are very eye-catching. You won’t have a hard time distinguishing these creatures because of their body pattern.

Surprisingly, these particular eels also come with large teeth that make it easy for them to catch their prey.

Half-spined Seahorses and Tiger Tail Seahorses

Now, it’s time to explore the Seahorse Kingdom . This zone is the home to some special marine species―the seahorses .

Catch them swimming upright and copying the color of the sea plant to avoid marine predators.

Big-belly Seahorses and Alligator Pipefishes

This particular area in the SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World aquarium also shelters the big-belly seahorses . Because of their protruding belly, they appear to be pregnant.

Another highlight you’ll see here are the alligator pipefishes .

Green Sea Turtles

Continue the fun and visit the Rainforest Adventure . This section takes you to a special experience with various tropical creatures .

And as you wander through the man-made rainforest, you’ll run into the largest turtle species in the world, the green sea turtles .

Arapaimas, Khela Mahseers, Black Diamond Stingrays, and Otters

Some marine animals inside this tank are the arapaimas , khela mahseers , and black diamond stingrays .

Also in attendance are the oriental small-clawed otters , which are dubbed to be the smallest of its species.

Bumblebee Dart Frogs and Blue Poison Dart Frogs

Don’t be fooled by their vibrant colors! The bumblebee dart frogs and blue poison dart frogs are some of the most poisonous frogs in the SEA LIFE Bangkok aquarium.

Bullfrog and Argentine Horned Frog

The bullfrog and Argentine horned frog are also two of the many frog species you’ll encounter here.

These animals are known for their immense size and unique body features.

Despite their massive structure, these two are quite inactive and often laze around.

Jaguar Carpet Python, Corn Snake, Milk Snake, and Leopard Gecko

Aside from fishes and frogs, this place is also loaded with a variety of snakes and lizards .

To give you an overview, these include jaguar carpet python , corn snake , milk snake , as well as leopard gecko . All these creatures vary in size, color, and patterns.

Gentoo Penguins

Have fun with the adorable creatures at Penguin Ice Adventure.

In this SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World zone, you’ll meet the Gentoo penguins .

Watch them swim and showcase their incredible underwater movements. Because of their skills, they can even dive at least 400 times a day!

Penguin Gaming Area

Aside from seeing the Gentoo penguins, make sure you drop by the penguin gaming area .

This is a great entertainment site for those families with kids. Let them play with the life-like creatures on the screen.

Giant Spider Crabs

Rocky Hideout is the beautiful sanctuary of many massive marine creatures like the giant spider crabs .

Because of its remarkable features, it takes the name of both spider and crab!

And there’s nothing to worry about these large marine crabs because they are not poisonous.

Giant Pacific Octopus

Another noteworthy creature to look out for is the giant pacific octopus .

This huge sea mollusk, however, certainly knows how to play hide-and-seek. So, keep your focus and catch sight of this ocean giant!

Horseshoe Crab and Sea Star

Be up-close with the horseshoe crabs and sea stars at Rockpools .

In this section, you are given the opportunity to get more personal with these creatures. You can play with them for a couple of minutes too!

Just make sure you just softly touch them and not take them out of the water. Remember to let them stay in their habitat with ease.

4D Cinema at SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World

The 4D Cinema of SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World adds more fun and excitement to your visit.

Ready yourself as you follow the breath-taking jellyfish journey of SpongeBob Squarepants.

The incredible and realistic effects make this movie highly entertaining.

So, be sure to catch this magical film experience together with your family and friends.

Glass Bottom Boat

Get more personal with the sharks at Glass Bottom Boat . This experience allows you to have fun with the ocean’s predators and other marine species.

So, if you’ve got a daring heart, for sure you’ll love this unique encounter. And don’t worry because this exciting ride is safe for the entire family.

Glass Bottom Boat Shark Encounter

In each boat, there will be one or two SEA LIFE staff that will assist you.

And the tour guides will even show you how to feed the fishes by hand! Watch in admiration as hundreds of fishes gather in one area to devour their food.

Our trip to SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World was something fun and memorable . All the exhibits were worth-visiting.

Plus, there are a lot of aquariums with unique marine creatures to fuel your interest .

Without a doubt, this attraction is highly recommended―most especially to touring families and friends.

Oahu Sea Life Park FAQs

Sea Life Park in Hawaii is definitely one of the best aquariums on Oahu, but it’s not the only one. There’s also the Waikiki Aquarium. However, Sea Life Park offers a lot more for families to do/see.

Yes! The Ka Moana Luau at Sea Life Park is definitely a hit with families. And when you buy your luau tickets, you’ll get free entry into Sea Life Park. It’s a great way to save money if you are planning on doing Sea Life Park and a luau during your Oahu vacation.

There are two main places to swim with dolphins on Oahu: Sea Life Park or Dolphin Quest. Sea Life Park’s options are great for little kids while Dolphin quest is great for older kids and teens. You can also do some snorkeling adventures with dolphins in the wild.

travel sea life

Where Exactly is Sea Life Park?

Sea Life Park is located on the east side of Oahu. It overlooks rabbit island and is right by the lighthouse. The Park is in the Koolau mountain range and makes for a gorgeous place to visit! The Park is in Waimanalo city.

If you want to make this into a full-day trip, you can easily stop by the Halona Blowhole, go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, or play at Waimanalo beach.

How Much Does It Cost to Go to Sea Life Park?

The Sea Life Park prices will vary. There are some discounts for Kama’aina (people with a Hawaii state ID) and military personnel which give a 40% discount.

For visitors, you will want to get a day pass which is $39.99 for 13+ years and older and children 3-12 years are $24.99. Children two and under are free! If you purchase your Sea Life Park tickets online , you can get a 10% discount too!

You will also have to pay for parking in addition to your Sea Life Park admission. Parking is an additional $5.00 and is good for the entire day.

When is Sea Life Park Open?

The Sea Life Park hours are from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. They are open on Monday and Tuesday, and Friday-Sunday. They are closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

When is the Best Time to Go Visit Sea Life Park?

When we went at 12:00 pm it was packed and there was a long line to enter. Noon is a busy time because there is a very fun dolphin show at 12:15 pm. If you want to visit that show, be sure to arrive before 12:00 pm or you might miss it waiting in line!

It was also very hard to find parking, and we had to park on the grass in the very back. When we were leaving around 2:00-2:30 pm, there were plenty of parking spaces and it was a lot less crowded. 2:00 pm would be the ideal time to visit because there is another dolphin show at 3:30 pm you can see!

What Can Visitors do at Sea Life Park Hawaii?

There are tons of fun things to do at the Hawaii Sea Life Park! From feeding the birds to swimming with the dolphins and learning about sea lions, there is something for everyone in your family to enjoy!

Here are a few of the best things to do during your visit to Sea Life Park.

Swim with Dolphins on Oahu

This is one of the best places to swim with dolphins on Oahu! The Sea Life Park dolphin encounter is such a fun activity to do with your kids.

There are a few ways you can enjoy your dolphin encounter. Three-year-old and older can get waist deep and interact with the dolphins in the water for 45 minutes. You can also get individual pictures for $35 with the dolphins as well.

Sea Life Park Dolphin Encounter Experience on Oahu.

If you don’t want to get into the water, you can interact with the dolphins without getting in the water. This one is available for anyone over a year old.

You can also snorkel and be around stingrays and sharks with the reef encounter! This is a 40-minute activity that anyone ages 4 years old and up will enjoy!

Prices will vary on which experience you want to do, but these are so worth it and are a blast, especially for kids! There are not many opportunities to swim with dolphins, sharks, stingrays, and sea lions, so if you go, be sure to include this during your trip!

travel sea life

There are all sorts of shows throughout the day to view. These shows are free and really fun to watch.

One of the best things to do at Sea Life Park is check out the dolphin show. Image of dolphins jumping in the water.

The dolphin show is either at 12:15 pm or 3:30 pm. Here you will learn about all the dolphins at the park, their names, their family history, and watch them do some awesome tricks. You may already know how intelligent dolphins are, but you will still be amazed at everything they do!

Instructors get in the water and surf on the dolphins, play catch with them, and so much more. Plan your trip to Sea Life Park around one of these two shows, for sure!

You can also learn about the sea lions during their presentation as well as watch penguins do some pretty neat tricks too. There are more educational ones like learning about Hawaiian seaweed and how the sea lions came to Hawaii.

Another fun one is to watch a baby shark feeding ! You can watch a trainer feed the sharks in this 300,000-gallon aquarium!

There are multiple showings for each show, so you don’t miss out on any of them! You will also get a schedule after you arrive so you can catch them all if you want.

Sea Life Park Hawaii Exhibits

Besides the fun shows you watch during the day; you can also go through the park to view a variety of exhibits. Here are a few of our favorites!

Touch Pond

If you are visiting with toddlers and younger children, this will probably be one of your favorite places to visit. Here you can actually touch all the fish and sea creatures! There are plenty of areas that the kids can reach and go explore the ocean life.

Sea Life Park is one of the best things to do on Oahu with toddlers. Image of a girl standing inside an aquarium exhibit.

There are also opportunities to feed the fishes too. Here children can explore and learn in a very hands-on experience. Plus there is a little section where your children can crawl in and feel like they are swimming with the fish!

There are starfish, urchins, and sometimes even baby turtles you can touch and hold in your hands! The larger fish will come and eat food out of your hand if you are very gentle and calm. My toddler wanted to stay here the entire time!

travel sea life

Bird Feeding

Another one of our favorite spots was the bird sanctuary! Here you are inside a large bird habitat and you can feed the birds! Only a certain number of people are allowed in at a time so you might have to wait in line, but it is so worth it. This is another free exhibit at the park.

Find out how to feed the birds at Sea Life Park on Oahu, Hawaii. Image of a toddler feeding a green tropical bird.

Sometimes they have sticks covered in birdseed to feed the birds while other times the seeds are directly in your hand! Your kids will love feeding the birds and seeing them up close. The birds are beautiful colors of blue, green, orange, and white.

After you exit, you may also be able to get a photo with some larger, more exotic birds too! You can hold some endangered and beautiful birds during your photo. This is only offered every now and again, so if it is there when you go, be sure to get one!

Sea Lions

You can see some fun sea lions up close and explore their habitat. When we went they were right next to the gate and kept waving at us! Certain times you can feed the sea lions, and even swim with them too!

Penguins

It is so fun to see penguins living in Hawaii. There are a few rescued penguins that you can visit. They love to show you how they play, swim, and explore the island! A lot of the time they stay in their caves, but when they come out, they are so fun to watch!

These are only some of the exhibits that Sea Life Park offers, but there is so much more! Enjoy learning about plenty of other sea life animals while you are there.

Ka Moana Luau at Sea Life Park

Enjoy this fun Sea Life Park luau with your entire family. You will watch some fun hula dancing, fire knife dancing, and so much more! From 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, you will have some more hands-on learning activities.

You will learn how to hula dance, make your own lei, ukulele lessons, coconut headband weaving, and so much more! The dinner is so delicious and worth it for the fun experience. If you plan to do the luau, you will also be able to explore the entire Sea Life Park before the luau starts.

How Long Do People Spend at Sea Life Park?

Most often, people will spend a couple of hours at the Oahu Sea Life Park. If you are short on time, you can explore the majority of the park in around two hours, but you might miss out on some tours and shows.

It is best to plan for 3-4 hours so you can enjoy the entire park and not feel rushed. Your ticket includes the entire day so if you want to keep exploring you can! It is so easy to stay for hours on end because it is so much fun!

Imagine for a moment that you are on the deck of a ship, sipping a glass of wine. You turn your head towards the water just in time to spot a pod of dolphins swimming by or flying fish, providing company in the ocean. After lingering in the sunshine for a while, it's time to head inside for a 3-course evening meal and a splash in the pool before retiring to bed.

Now, what kind of vessel are you on?

No, you are not on a standard commercial cruise ship. You are not on a packed luxury liner hopping between Caribbean islands. You are aboard a modern freighter. Hundreds of cargo ships, carrying everything from fire engines to apples, are crossing the world's oceans, and many are happy to take you along for the ride. Adventurous travelers, including the Transitions Abroad family, have been doing so for years, as have many long before us.

What Does Travel on a Cargo Ship Feel Like?

A far more intimate and relaxed experience than you might imagine! The experience on board contrasts sharply with the rough and industrial outward appearance a container ship tends to project. You will be one of a handful of passengers among a crew likely to number up to a dozen or a few more. There will be no evening cabaret shows as on a standard cruise, though you may have access to TV, video, and board games in a common area on the ship where passengers may meet the crew. You may even play cards with the crew under the night skies. You might be invited to karaoke with the sailors, and you will almost always dine alongside the captain, who is far more likely to turn up in shorts and a t-shirt than in full uniform. Some cargo ships also offer equipped exercise rooms or pools.

Here was our first taste of the wonders of sea travel. Our introduction to freighter travel was a relatively short 5-day sailing between Australia and New Zealand. We joined the French ship CMA CGM Utrillo in the busy port of Melbourne, where our luggage — including two bicycles and bags — was quickly hauled on board and into a spacious cabin by a host of cheery Filipino deckhands.

What are the Costs of Cargo Ship Travel?

Depending upon your destination (Transatlantic, Transpacific, South Seas, Worldwide, and other special combinations), your daily freighter travel costs will be about $100-$130 per day per person per day with a luggage allowance of approximately 30kg-100kg (66-220lbs) depending on the line you are taking. Generally, US dollars are the primary currency used onboard to buy soft drinks, snacks, beer, and toiletries. You can then use your credit cards at each location you disembark.

What kind of Hospitality Can You Expect on Board?

Our next surprise was how quickly we felt part of the family. Just moments after arriving, our fellow passenger (a French woman "going around the world in 80 days”) hinted that the captain was sure to throw us a welcome barbecue. “He does that for every one new,” she said with a wink. Sure enough, the next evening was spent on the back deck of the ship, feasting on grilled fish and chatting with the seamen as the sun went down.

One of our concerns before sailing was that we'd find the days long. It was just the opposite. There were three square meals a day (hearty plates of meat and vegetables for workers) and our time between eating was filled with strolls around the deck and trips up to the bridge to check our position and ask questions.

Had there ever been stowaways? Yes, once a harmless passenger was allowed to board. What about pirates? Not here, but there were off the coast of Africa. And just how much fuel did a cargo ship need? In the current era of relatively low oil prices, $60,000 U.S. a day will generally cover the trip.

Why is it a Relaxing Way to Travel?

With our curiosity temporarily curbed, we would return to our cabin for reading our books or Kindle, journal writing, and a bit of table tennis if we felt especially energetic. Far away from the hustle and bustle of life on firm land, we were truly relaxed. The experience was in complete contrast to our usual hurried airplane trips.

For Hamish Jamieson, the owner of Freighter Travel NZ and one of only a handful of travel agents in the world licensed to book tickets on cargo ships, the simplicity of being at sea is the main attraction.

“When you're sitting up the front of the bow of the ship, on your own, and all you see is the sea going past and you hear the wind and waves, you're in heaven. For me, an afternoon...sitting right on the bow, watching the world go by with my binoculars, that's my heaven,” he said.

What Kind of Flexibility is Needed for Freighter Travel?

Of course, nothing in life is all smooth sailing. While we didn't encounter any problems during our trip, we did struggle with the uncertain nature of freighter travel before we boarded. Our initial departure date jumped forward first by three days and then seemed to bounce around by 12-24 hours every time we called to check the latest news. Ours was not an uncommon experience and you must prepare yourself for flexibility.

Even ports of call are not guaranteed because on a cargo ship, freight comes first, not the passengers. If the demand is not there for a certain stop, the ship will go where the business is.

“Our trip from the USA to Europe changed three times after initial booking,” said Rebecca Hogue and Scott Drennan, then on a journey around the world without using airplanes . Their initial trip from South Carolina to Belgium was from Florida to Italy. “Had we not been flexible with our departure times and locations, things would not have worked out.”

As Mr. Jamieson is fond of telling his passengers, when you go to sea, there are two things you must pack: a sense of humor and a sense of patience.

What are the Practical Issues?

Your trip may also involve some red tape, particularly concerning U.S. stops. American citizens are not permitted, for example, to travel within their country by cargo ship, although they can make international journeys. Meanwhile, travelers to the United States must have a visa, even if they would not need one to arrive by air. Only Canadians are exempt from this rule.

Be sure to budget time and money to get vaccinations like Yellow Fever if you are going through the Suez and Panama canals. A medical certificate declaring you in generally good health is another typical requirement.

Where in the World Do You Want to Go?

The hardest part of booking your cargo ship voyage is deciding where to go. Will it be to South America and around Cape Horn? How about a 55-day round trip from California to Australia and New Zealand via Tahiti and Mexico? Mr. Jamieson offers a few more ideas and favorite voyages based on years of experience.

“For me the ultimate voyage is from Auckland, in New Zealand, to Singapore. It takes 40-45 days to sail what you can fly in just under 12 hours but it visits nearly every island in the Pacific on the way and it stops for 2-3 days. The second choice for me would be from Singapore through to Houston in Texas. It goes up through Thailand, Vietnam, half a dozen ports in China, into Japan, then straight across the Pacific and through the Panama Canal.”

With enough time and money at your disposal--round-the-world trips can take 80 to 100 days or more--there are few places a cargo ship can't reach. Voyage destinations on cargo ships can change, so the many options available will often surprise you. You need to be adventurous enough to do your research, find a specialized cargo ship travel agent (see resources below), and then get on board.

The Golden Rules of Cargo Ship Travel

  • Be prepared to make your own fun. There are seldom programmed activities aside from the odd safety drill.
  • Go before you're too old. An upper age limit of 77-80 years is not uncommon, as no doctor on board and there are often plenty of stairs.
  • Check that your travel insurance covers freighter travel.
  • Be flexible. Schedules can and do change frequently. You may need 2-3 ships to reach your destination.
  • Book in advance. Cabins are limited and the most popular routes can be sold out by ships months ahead.
  • Forget about working in exchange for your passage. Current union rules mean this is no longer permitted.
  • Take a good supply of seasickness pills. While not very common, rough weather can occur, sending tables, chairs, and your stomach flying across the room.
  • Wifi and other modern electronics are now often available on cargo ships for travelers . If connectivity is important to you, ask whether those options are accessible and free in advance.

Life At Sea Cruises: Uncovering The 3 Year Journey That Never Happened

The Life at Sea cruise was called off last minute which led to displaced passengers. Learn more about the unfortunate and costly situation.

Sarah Rand • Feb 20, 2024

travel sea life

Life at Sea Cruises is a brand that offers travelers a chance to live on a cruise ship . The journey across the globe is marketed as an intensive journey abroad with an unheard of duration. Extended cruise living is a somewhat recent trend that has turned out to be a riveting experience for many travelers. Instead of the usual week-long cruise, travelers can opt to book cruises that are months and even years long.

This provides travelers the opportunity to have alternative living accommodations unlike ever before. These life at sea cruises also allow digital nomads and world travelers to expand their horizons on a long-term basis . These world cruise trips are commonly all-inclusive with impressive itineraries. Travelers are encouraged to do their research on the life at sea lifestyle and choose itineraries that truly excite them. But since the nature of these cruises constitutes longer stays, most of the cruise trips include diverse and riveting experiences .

Life While Cruising

travel sea life

Extended journeys on the water can surely provide unique travel experiences. Around the world cruise trips provide jam-packed itineraries, distinct cultural immersion, luxury accommodations, specialty cuisine and immersive port activities. These cruises are ideal for travelers who want to hop around different countries and parts of the world. But the primary criteria for passengers of extended world cruises are those that have lots of time and money. Extended stay cruises commonly range from 100 to almost 300 days long. Obviously, those with fewer in-person obligations are better fits for these long journeys. Passengers of long world cruises are commonly C-suite level executives, entrepreneurs and retirees.

Some travelers look at extended cruises as the experience of a lifetime; for others, it is not a good fit. Life at sea can be exceptional or it can feel grueling for some travelers. If travelers commonly get motion sickness, an extended boat trip is surely not the best option. Although travelers can rely on motion sickness medication, during such a long trip it may prove difficult. Concurrently, the appeal of life on the sea is clear since there is so much opportunity to explore new places and things. These cruises are great opportunities to meet new people, have thorough travel experiences and even have a break from extensive travel planning.

So, What Is a Life at Sea Cruise?

travel sea life

The Life at Sea cruise (owned by Miray Cruises) was a three year voyage planned for 2023. On November 1st the cruise ship was supposed to depart from Istanbul, claiming to be the longest cruise yet. The trip was planned to last over 1,000 days and have nearly 400 port calls. The journey across the sea would have been an unprecedented global travel experience. The cruise was advertised with beginning prices around $30,000 per year. This price included accommodations and food for the full length of the trip. This journey was supposed to top the longest cruise to date, The Ultimate World Cruise by Royal Caribbean. That cruise lasted 274 nights with over 150 ports of call in over 60 countries.

Why Did the Three Year Cruise Get Canceled?

Unfortunately, the 2023 cruise was canceled shortly before it was supposed to begin. The cancellation was due to the cruise company not being properly prepared to begin the voyage. The cruise ship for the long voyage had not been acquired due to a lack of funds. Passengers could not be properly accommodated because the cruise company did not possess a large enough vessel. Sadly, many travelers had already arrived at the departure location by time the cruise was officially canceled. The decision to cancel the cruise was received by potential passengers as devastating and upsetting news, understandably. The sudden change of plans severely inconvenienced many travelers and negatively impacted the cruise line. Surprisingly, Miray is already advertising another cruise that is set to depart in November of 2024.

The Aftermath of the Cruise Cancellation

As one would assume, travelers who had planned to cruise abroad for years had to get their affairs in order before departing. Many travelers decided to sell their possessions, consolidate their belongings, liquidate their savings and even relinquish their place of residence in preparation. After paying for their trip and receiving the last-minute news that the trip had been canceled, many passengers were in disarray. Passengers of the supposed trip of a lifetime have since attempted to obtain refunds. There have even been some efforts to establish a formal criminal complaint on behalf of the passengers. Well into the beginning of 2024, the majority of passengers had not received their money back.

Alternative Cruise Options

While travelers surely need to avoid the same issues that the Life at Sea passengers experienced, there are definitely other options. There are plenty of long term cruises that travelers can select from. The options may not be as ambitious as the Miray cruise, but they are still quite exciting. Popular long term cruises include options from different cruise lines. Viking’s Viking Sky, Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise, Princess’ Island Princess, and MSC Poesia are some of the most popular alternatives. All of these cruise lines have long term trips set for 2024 or 2025. The average length of these cruises are around 100 to 200 days with prices starting around $20,000 per person, depending on the cruise package and cruise line.

Lying south of Guadeloupe and north of Martinique in the Eastern Caribbean, Dominica is the youngest Caribbean Island and the last to be colonized, ultimately earning its independence on November 3, 1978. Air travelers can connect to Dominica directly from Miami on American Airlines and make regional connections from surrounding Caribbean hubs.

An island without mega-resorts but full of some of the healthiest coral reefs, slumbering volcanoes, and verdant fauna, Dominica offers a range of hikes, waterfalls, and jungle adventures.

Is Grenada Safe? Travel Advisory 2023

As the spice island of the Caribbean, Grenada is celebrating its 50th year of independence in 2024. The verdant island is home to tons of mona monkeys and is reliant on its agriculture and export crops like nutmeg, but is gaining traction amongst international travelers.

The small island is known for its lush forests and waterfalls and the world’s first underwater garden The Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park.

Is Anguilla Safe To Visit? Travel Advisory 2024

Anguilla is known to have some of the most beautiful beaches, the island is ringed with 33 beaches, in the world. Lying just off-the-beaten-path, it can be still reached from three major gateways – Miami, FL (MIA), Puerto Rico (SJU), and St. Martin, (SXM), as well as private air transportation.

Boasting a great culinary scene, major festivals and luxury accommodations, this Level 1 island hosts tons of attractions to allure tourists.

The British island territory in the North Atlantic Ocean is made up of a string of islands in the Sargasso Sea. Famous for its picturesque beaches, like its pink-sand beaches, gorgeous reefs, and a complex cave network, it is also a global financial hub.

Just a couple hours’ flight from New York City, the luxury island is only 21 miles in length but there is much to do from St. George’s to Hamilton to the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Rich in cultural, heritage, sporting, culinary, and eco experiences, Barbados has something for every kind of traveler. As the Culinary Capital of the Caribbean, the island is home to over 400 restaurants and eateries and is also known as the birthplace of rum.

Barbados is considered one of the safest countries in the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic and those traveling to this paradise in Summer will likely provide lower prices and less crowded beaches as it is the off-season in Barbados.

Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda

Positioned where the Atlantic and Caribbean meet, the sovereign island country presents a twin-island Caribbean paradise. From its superb coastline and pink and white-sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters to its protective reefs, it is also the largest nesting colony of frigate birds in the Caribbean.

The island has no mountains or forests and its British history is still evident through its architecture and 18th century Nelson’s Dockyard. Along with the beaches, the culinary delicacies are another reason visitors come to visit.

10 Things to Do in Sochi If You Love Nature

Lake Kardyvach. Sochi

Host to 2014 Winter Olympics , Sochi is now mostly known for the snowy slopes of Krasnaya Polyana and Rosa Khutor Alpine resort. However, the “Russian Riviera” is much more than a glorified ski-resort. With its picturesque waterfalls and pristine lakes, alpine meadows and spruce-fir forests, snow-capped mountains and dreamy river valleys, Sochi is an ultimate nature lover’s dream.

Aul tkhagapsh.

Founded in the middle of the 19th century, this village only consists of two streets and two lanes. Circled by a picturesque chestnut forest, Aul Tkhagapsh is surrounded by many visually-arresting natural landmarks – a mysterious rock formation called “the canyon of a hundred crying eyes”, beautiful waterfalls with organically formed stone basins and the Tiger cave, which is called so because of the whimsical clay dripstones. Despite its tiny size, the village itself has a lot to offer. You can see the only wooden mosque on the coast, learn about the customs and traditions of the Adyghe people, try on traditional clothes and taste authentic food and local wines.

Aul Tkhagapsh, Krasnodar Krai, Russia

Aul Tkhagapsh. Sochi

If you love picturesque ancient ruins put the Loo Temple on your must-see list. Drowning in the lush greenery of the Sochi National Park, Loo Temple is the remains of a 10th-century Byzantine temple, that’s been ruined and reconstructed multiple times. The temple was used as a place of worship and a fortification over the years.

Aibga Ridge

This spectacular mountain ridge stretches for 23 kilometers and has the Rosa Khutor Alpine Resort nestled at its feet. The ridge comprises of 10 peaks, with the four tallest being the best known: Aigba peak I (2391 m), peak II (2450,5 m), peak III (2462,7 m) and Black Pyramid (2375,3 m). Save a day or two to explore the ridge, full of rapid rivers, alpine meadows and waterfalls.

Achepsinskie Waterfalls

To admire the spectacular views that Achepsinskie Waterfalls offer, you’ll have to endure a pretty tiring trekking route through the Achishkho Mountain to the Achipse River. But those striking panoramas are totally worth the sweat and while the trekking may be tough going, it has a very decent infrastructure.

Khmelevskie Lakes

Located almost 2000 meters above sea level, Khmelevskie Lakes is an alpine lake system, named after the Russian botanist Vikenty Khmelevsky. Spread around emerald-green alpine meadows and surrounded by lush green forests, there are four rather sizable overgrown lakes and a few smaller ones.

Arguably the most popular tourist spot near Sochi, Lake Kardyvach is simply breathtaking. Situated 44 kilometers from the Krasnaya Polyana resort at the altitude of 1838 meters, the lake stays frozen for seven to eight months a year and even in summer the water temperature is never hotter than 12℃. The water in the lake changes its color depending on the time of year: in spring it turns green and in autumn it becomes dark blue, and no matter what season, it’s unbelievably clear. Akhshtyrskaya Cave

A unique monument of prehistoric architecture, Akhshtyrskaya Cave is set on the right side of Akhshtyrskaya Gorge, about 120m above the Mzymta River and 185m above sea level. The cave begins with a 20m corridor and then gets divided into two halls, 10m and 8m wide. The cave has been heavily explored by archaeologists, who discovered traces of Neanderthal culture dating back to 40,000 BC.

Shakhe River

Sochi’s second most significant river, Shakhe begins high in the mountains and flows down to the Black Sea . 59 kilometers long, the river has some amazing natural attractions in its valley: Dzhegosh Gorge, 33 waterfalls, stone lake basins, ancient oak trees, rare plant life and so much more.

Agura Waterfalls and Orlinyye Rocks

This is one of the most exciting hiking routes in the area. Taking you through spruce fir forest, to three cascading waterfalls and the sheer cliffs of the Orlinyye Rocks with head-spinning views. Agura Waterfalls, Bolshoy Sochi, Krasnodar Krai,Russia

Agurskie Falls, Sochi

Words can’t do justice to the virgin beauty of the Khuko Lake and scientists are still puzzling over the absence of any life in it. Set between Adygea and Krasnodar Krai, the lake offers incredible views of the mountains Fisht, Oshten and Pshekha-Su.

Villa Vie Residences Unveils New Offering For Travelers Who Want to Retire on a Cruise Ship

Want to spend the rest of your life on a cruise ship?

Now, thanks to Villa Vie Residences, you can. The new residential cruise line—which is set to offer the first three-and-a-half-year world cruise this spring—is unveiling a new, one-time fee that will let travelers live out the rest of their days onboard the Villa Vie Odyssey ship .

Called “Endless Horizons,” the program requires guests to pay a one-time fee: $299,999 for a solo cabin or $499,999 for a double. In return, travelers get lifetime guaranteed access to an outside cabin, as well as meals, high-speed internet, some shore excursions and other perks. Travelers will also be able to participate in more than 50 active interest groups focused on fitness, food and more.

"Our goal is to offer a seamless solution for those looking to retire on a fixed budget to never worry about ongoing expenses again," says Mikael Petterson, chief executive officer of Villa Vie Residences. "This is more than just a travel opportunity; it's a new way of life. For less than the price of an average home, you can secure a lifetime of experiences."

The new cruise line’s ship, Villa Vie Odyssey, is undergoing refurbishment in Belfast. It was originally slated to depart on its inaugural three-and-a-half-year world cruise on May 15, but it appears that departure date has been pushed to May 30.

The startup purchased MS Braemer, a 30-year-old ship, from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines and changed the name to Villa Vie Odyssey. That purchase was announced just a few weeks after Life at Sea Cruises canceled its three-year voyage because it couldn’t secure a ship .

When Villa Vie Odyssey sets sail later this month, the ship is scheduled to visit all seven continents, with stops in more than 425 ports in 147 countries.

"One aspect most people nearing retirement age are concerned about is ongoing living expenses and the possibility of outliving their savings," says Kathy Villalba, chief operating officer of Villa Vie Residences. "This program eliminates that concern altogether while offering the ultimate dream: exploring every corner of the world by sea."
