Some may argue that traveling by plane is an occasion to dress up, but for most of us at Traveler, comfort is the main priority when planning a transit day ensemble: You want something loose enough that you won't need to readjust (or worse, unbutton) a few hours into a flight or road trip, but put-together enough to feel that you've made a switch out of pajamas and into a true outfit. Luckily, there is no shortage of loungewear sets these days.

Read on for 35 of the best loungewear sets to add to your travel wardrobe , many of which are sitting in our editors' dresser drawers. From upscale sweatsuits to cozy cashmere knits, they'll keep you comfy whether you're sitting on a plane, train, or in the passenger seat, and will get a re-wear on lazy vacation days when the only item on your to-do list is lounging around the Airbnb .

The Aerie LumberJane collection has been one of the brand's more popular releases. The collection features breathable, lightweight waffle fabric in shirts, shorts, and now polos. The LumberJane polo and short set are perfect for lazy vacation days spent shuffling around in your slippers . Each piece has raw seams along the sleeves, sides, and back that gives it a more lived-in look.

Buck Mason is at the forefront of elevated essentials. The Vintage Interloop set features an oversized crew that has a relaxed fit all around and thinly ribbed stiching on the cuffs to give more structure to the slouchy sleeves. The French terry sweatpants are slimming and so comfortable. Each set looks slightly different than the other, thanks to Buck Mason's Venice Wash technique that creates its cool, vintage look.

We're always raving about Girlfriend Collective, a size-inclusive, sustainably- and ethically-made brand. This set is made from half recycled, half organic cotton. They're available in your classic neutral colors, as well as this rich wine hue.

Kim Kardashian's shapewear and loungewear brand Skims never misses when it comes to cozy sets. The Cotton Fleece collection is a more sporty take on classic loungewear. The soft fleece shorts have an interior drawstring at the waist for a more customizable fit.

This chic pullover and sweat shorts both don the recognizable Alexander Wang logo. While the set is one of the trendiest pieces on our list, you'll be pleasantly surprised at just how soft the heavy brushed cotton terry is. Style the set with a small crossbody bag and pair of chunky dad sneakers for quick errands or walks around the city.

You can never go wrong with a simple high-waisted pant and tank top combo. The Anrabess sleeveless set is lightweight and thin, making it supremely packable in any weekender bag or carry-on. At just $30, it is one of the most affordable loungewear sets on our list.

Is there anything easier than throwing on a jumpsuit? Spanx AirEssentials jumpsuit is one of the brand's bestsellers—and it's just been restocked in more colors. We love the drawstring tie at the waist that gives the jumpsuit a more fitted and flattering look.

Traveler 's commerce producer, Paris Wilson , swears by Roots' loungewear. “I've been raving about Roots for years. It's hard to find a brand that doesn't skimp on quality,” she says. The Luxe Crew and Pintuck pant are made from a cotton and cashmere blend. While the material gives it a more chic look, the fit of the set is more relaxed and loose. This can easily be dressed up or down, and would look great with a sleek pair of white sneakers .

Image may contain: Clothing, Long Sleeve, Sleeve, Adult, Person, Shorts, Knitwear, Sweater, and Sweatshirt

The loose fit of the Ramona sweatshirt compliments the brand's drawstring waist Jane shorts. The rouched terry fabric on the inside of each garment keeps you warm and cozy without overheating. As warmer days approach, the yellow dip-dye design is a must-have for your spring and summer wardrobe .

If you're looking for a more polished look, the Malibu set is for you. The set is made up of the Frank & Eileen Audrey Capelet and the Catherine Sweatpant . Each piece is made from 100 percent cotton triple fleece, making it incredibly soft. It's the perfect set for a long road trip or a chilly plane.

The Cool Stretch collection from Pact is made from breathable organic cotton. The soft, thin layers are a go-to summer fit when temperatures are high and you just want to chill inside. The tank top and shorts set comes in seven colorways and can be paired with Pact's Airplane cardigan or a cozy hoodie .

If you prefer something a little more roomy, the Oversized Tee and Harem Pant set from This is J is for you. It’s perfect for long-haul flights and road trips where comfort is at the top of your list, but you don’t want to step out in your pajamas. The soft, moisture-wicking fabric will keep you dry and comfortable whether you’re snuggled up on a train or plane.

travel outfit sets

This set is made for cold weather. The thick fabric will keep you warm and toasty whether you’re hanging inside with friends or out sightseeing. The top has a dropped shoulder sleeve that looks more oversized while the pants feature a wide-leg with a drawstring waist.. The set comes in 10 solid colors that are easy to pair with a slip-on sneaker or Ugg boots .

travel outfit sets

The soft ribbed knit of the Muse hoodie and sweatpant offers a lot of dimension to the duo. The set is lightweight enough that it can be worn over workout clothes without any bulkiness. The high-waisted joggers pair well with the cropped hoodie and offer a more chic silhouette.

travel outfit sets

You’ll be comfortable from head to toe with this ultra-soft pullover and pant set. The pants have a classic ‘70s wide-leg silhouette accompanied by an elastic waistband, while the pullover has a polo-inspired collar and a slightly cropped hem. An all-white set never goes out of style and will look great with a white sneaker .

The name tells you everything you need to know. The Coziest Cashmere Blend hoodie and jogger are ultra-soft. The fabric is warm yet breathable and the fact that it’s a blend gives you peace of mind that it won’t be ruined in the washing machine.

travel outfit sets

Traveler editors swear by Lunya's washable silk pajamas and cashmere Travel Set . The brand’s Silksweats complete its holy trinity of comfort. With a sherpa interior and thermoregulating abilities, you'll be comfortable without overheating in this set. Bonus: Both pieces are reversible so you can have two looks for one.

travel outfit sets

There's something to be said for a zip-up sweatshirt, even if they've largely been replaced by pullovers of late. For one, if your temperature flips from chilly to warm, you can regulate without bothering your seatmate while trying to take off your hoodie. We're a fan of the sweatpants, too: the deep pockets, cuffed ankles, and cashmere fabric are all plusses.

A new addition to OV's ultra-soft, lightweight, and durable CloudKnit line-up : this boxy T-shirt with a slightly cropped fit. It comes in charcoal, navy, mocha, fog white, and jasmine blue, all of which will match your go-to black leggings or joggers .

Awarded one of Oprah's Favorite Things in 2020, I was eager to put on Cozy Earth's ultra-soft joggers, and am happy to report they lived up to the hype. Made of a mix of premium viscose from bamboo, acrylic, and spandex, they're smooth and cool to the touch, and have a loose but not baggy fit. I've worn them a ton on WFH days, and would happily fly in them. Snag a matching pullover if you like the matching set look.

San Francisco–based Quince launched a maternity collection, which includes a nursing-friendly long sleeve and lounge joggers with an adjustable drawstring waistband. All of the collection's pieces are made with renewable materials like Tencel lyocell, a biodegradable fiber made from wood pulp; mulberry silk, a hypoallergenic and thermoregulating fabric; the company's SuperSoft fabric, a blend of recycled polyester and tencel; and sustainably- and humanely-sourced Mongolian cashmere.

Outdoor Voices’ All Day hoodie and sweatpants set really is made to wear from dusk to dawn. It aims to be the softest pair of sweats you will ever wear, and stacks up, with a CloudKnit fabric that feels as cozy as your most worn-in pair of pajamas. The sweatpants are high-rise and more fitted toward the bottom to give the most flattering look possible, too. The pieces can be bought individually and come in six different colors, from neutral charcoal to a rich Kalamata purple.

While former Traveler editor Jessica Puckett's favorite cashmere set has since sold out, Cuyana's Pima outfit is another great option for plane travel and lounging, particularly in warmer environments, as the material is soft, smooth, and breathable.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Shorts, Human, and Person

Former Traveler editor Corina Quinn turned us on to Vuori's DreamKnit Collection hoodie and jogger set. “The DreamKnit feels like a cloud—it's so soft and cozy, yet lightweight, so you don't get too hot or too cool in them,” she says. “On top of that, because there are a few different models of jogger pants and tops, my friends and I have all found a model that's flattering for us.” For a pair of sweats that make you feel like you’re wearing a real outfit without actually doing so, Vuori’s unbelievably soft, stretchy sets are an easy pick.

Friend + Folk is a size- and gender-inclusive brand that prioritizes a limited carbon footprint, and puts it into practice by way of free carbon neutral shipping, recyclable and plastic-free packaging, limited batch-production, and more. The Joon joggers are a favorite—the fit is roomy and comfortable yet still tailored, and the zippered pockets are ideal for stashing AirPods, lip balm, and other odds and ends without worrying they'll fall out as you dash through the airport. Pair them with the Perry pullover and you've got a new airport uniform.

Lululemon may be best known for its leggings and workout wear, but don't skip over the brand's loungewear. This set is made out of a smooth Softstreme material that is stretchy and feels smooth against your skin. It's a great loungewear set to wear if you run hot.

travel outfit sets

We love this Madewell number, made of a fleece-like Superbrushed terry fabric. Wide legs and a loose fit make it just the kind of thing we want to wear on long travel days, and the patch pockets are much appreciated. Since it does have tank top-style straps, bring a cardigan or other added layer for the plane.

travel outfit sets

Some loungewear is better suited for inside wear, like this cozy ribbed shorts set. Wear the pullover, with its bell sleeves and slit in the back, over leggings for long-haul flights. The stretchy shorts have a fairly short inseam, so they'll likely be more comfortable as a sleeping short or loungewear piece to change into when you arrive at your hotel or rental house.

Image may contain: Clothing, Suit, Overcoat, Apparel, Coat, Human, and Person

This two-piece set might be the closest thing to sleepwear on this list, and yet is still cute enough to feel confident while wearing through the airport. It comes in a dozen colors, from basic heather gray to bold indigo blue, and pairs slouchy, relaxed fit pants with a scoop-neck button-up henley.

Image may contain: Clothing, Sleeve, Apparel, Long Sleeve, Human, Person, Standing, and Pants

Sure, all sweatpants are designed to be comfortable, but the cotton, modal, and spandex fabric Knix uses takes things up a notch. The smooth, cooling, and slightly stretchy fabric feels fantastic against skin and looks a bit more put-together than typical sweatpant material.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Dress, Human, Person, and Pants

Most loungewear tends to follow the same cut, so we appreciate Monos, a luggage brand , shaking things up when delving into clothing. This set is as soft as any sweatpants out there, with a mid-length wide-leg pant and a short sleeve V-neck tee that's just slightly cropped.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, and Pants

Anything labeled Signaturesoft nails both the rest day and flying-comfortably mood we're going for. The top and bottom have a streamlined shape and the sweatpants are tapered at the ankle. Both pieces are made of a comfortable rayon, acrylic, and spandex mix, so you’ll feel cozy while still looking put together. The sweatshirt and sweatpants can be purchased individually and come in nearly a dozen colors should you want to mix and match, and the sweatshirt passes the video-conferencing-chic test, in that it looks more like a standard sweater than workout wear.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pajamas, Human, and Person

Not a hoodie person? You might like this cowl-neck top, which comes with cropped pants, both made of a super soft jersey and spandex fabric. Shop the set in gray, sky blue, strawberry, or buttercream, and wear it on your next overnight flight to feel like you're in pajamas.

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Shoe, Human, Person, Suit, Coat, Overcoat, Sleeve, and Long Sleeve

You may never want to put on pajamas again after wearing Softwear's Lounge Set. The fabric is buttery soft inside and out. Both the pullover and joggers are tailored and fitted with a clean silhouette—the top could pass for a normal sweater—while still being ultra soft. Plus, it’s long-lasting: The sustainable fabric is pilling-resistant and made to keep its shape after every wear.

travel outfit sets

Made for pregnant or nursing moms, this Everly Grey set is designed to fit a baby bump and make nursing easier with side openings on the top. Made of stretchy fabric with cuffed ankles and wrists and pockets on the hips, it's a loose, ever-so-slightly tailored look you'll wear again and again. Order it in one of four neutral colors: black, charcoal, oyster pink, or denim blue.

I Cracked the Code to the Perfect Travel Outfit

The elusive "perfect travel outfit"—it's something we've discussed, debated, and broken down quite a bit before. What does an effortless yet polished and, above all else, comfy travel outfit really look like, and why does it seem nearly impossible to accomplish ? Non-stretch high-rise jeans are out of the question, no matter how long you're in transit. On the other hand, it's this writer's opinion that wearing straight-up leggings isn't the most stylish option. Though, I'll admit it may be the comfiest.

After countless flights and thousands of miles flown, I think I've finally found the answer to the travel-outfit conundrum: knit sets . The matching sweater-and-pants sets just might be the stylish solution to all those times you wore  sweatpants but ended up feeling less than put-together upon arrival. With so many fun, colorful sets to choose from right now, there's no reason not to feel ultra-comfy when you're traveling. (They make pretty great loungewear , too.) We love them styled with simple white sneakers and a few dainty jewelry staples. From rainbow stripes to cheery colors and clean neutrals, shop the coolest knit sets below.

  • How to Pack

Why Trust PEOPLE?

People / Getty / Gwyneth Paltrow / Instagram

As a travel writer, my suitcase is nearly always half-packed. Long flights demand comfort, but new sights and cities demand style . To complicate matters, I’m a maximalist, so traditional travel advice to cram a small capsule wardrobe into a backpack never quite appeals to me, even if I have to fight the luggage scale when checking in for my flight.

Packing properly for any trip can be daunting, whether you’re throwing together a duffel for a girls’ weekend or filling a checked bag  for a multi-month jaunt all over Europe. Still, my adventures across multiple countries, climates, and time zones taught me to reach for certain staples — like comfortable walking shoes and a reliable crossbody purse — time and time again. While nailing down my perfect travel wardrobe, I turned to on-the-go celebrities like Taylor Swift and Emily Blunt for inspiration.

A packing list comprised of versatile dresses, flowy pants, maxi skirts, and breezy shirts can go a long way — literally. Read on for the best celeb-inspired travel clothes for women to pack for your upcoming trips, as determined by shopper insights, professional style writers, celebrity research, and more.

Dresses give you plenty of bang for your buck when it comes to traveling. For one, they tend to be flexible compared to other clothing items: You can dress them up or down more effectively to target a specific dress code. Chic maxi dresses reigned supreme last summer, and Meghan Markle recently elevated  that trend in a silky high-neck maxi dress — stylish enough for a formal engagement but breezy enough for an afternoon in the sun.

Dresses of varying lengths also tend to be more conducive to layering. While summer may be “sundress season,” and we see celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow reaching for transitional midi styles in spring, the right travel dress can be an effective staple in your winter wardrobe, too. You can keep the style in your cold-weather repertoire by winterizing the look like Emily Ratajkowski . Opt for a darker colorway, chunky boots, and maybe a sweater.

The Drop Women’s Britt Tiered Maxi Tent Dress

This tiered maxi dress has an array of 1,900+ perfect five-star ratings on Amazon for its airiness — and rave reviews from multiple PEOPLE writers . It’s such a classic silhouette for all occasions, and it has the most coveted design detail on dresses: pockets. Shoppers do note that there’s little stretch, so consider your bust size when ordering.

Sizes: XXS–5X | Materials: 100% Tencel Lyocell | Colors: 18

Editors Say

“I bought this maxi dress from The Drop when it was on sale, and I’m going to buy two more at full price — that’s how much I love it. In fact, I have to force myself not to wear it multiple times a week. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and flattering for my short, curvy body. It even has pockets and adjustable straps that can be crossed in the back. The best part, though? I don’t have to wear a bra!” — Kayla Kitts , shopping editor

Linen Roll Tab Dollman Midi Dress

Chico's

An ankle-skimming midi always comes in handy, and a linen fabric is an excellent choice for temperature regulation: cooling in warmer climates yet cozy in cooler ones. This relaxed, button-down frock comes in whimsical watermelon and khaki hues. It even has adjustable, oversized sleeves for added comfort.

Sizes: XS–XL | Materials: 100% linen | Colors: 2

Skinny Strap Seamless Mini Slip

Free People

Free People excels in lightweight, flattering, multi-use dresses. Most pieces in their slip category — like this itty-bitty seamless LBD — can be worn as an undergarment, dress, or top. (Just tuck it in!) Each slip truly compresses down to nothing, making it the ultimate space-saving garment.

Sizes: XS–XL | Materials: 92% nylon, 8% spandex | Colors: 3

Roxy Golden Dawn Dress

Everybody needs a comfortable floral sundress to throw on in warmer climates, especially after a sunburn. Whether you frequent the beach in your travels or just want something soft that wears in well over time, this Roxy pick is built for comfort.

Available Sizes: M, L | Materials: Viscose | Colors: 1

Tencel Jersey Tank Maxi Dress

This Quince pick has a soft, comfy stretch ideal for long days on your feet, and is even made of biodegradable fabric. With six colorways and a  lightweight and sleeveless silhouette, this dress almost guarantees plenty of use.

Sizes: XS–XL | Materials: Tencel, spandex | Colors: 6

The right flowy pants can make the ultimate base layer, whether you’re on a nine-hour flight or dressing to the nines. Loose, roomier pants have been all the rage this year, with celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence , Zendaya , and Emily Blunt all sporting various wide-leg styles.

Similarly, breezy white maxi skirts are majorly on trend right now (and always), stylist Liz Teich told PEOPLE. Just look at Katie Holmes stepping out in NYC. She exemplifies how airy styles can be  great for warmer weather, but still look polished. Plus, the lighter fabrics are literally lighter in your bag, so why not throw in another?

Tronjori High Waist Casual Wide Leg Palazzo Pants

This Amazon pick embodies the quintessential palazzo pant we’ve all bookmarked on Pinterest. The wide leg and high waist are timeless, and the pair comes in a whopping 31 different colorways, plus tall and petite variations.

Sizes: XS–XXL, short and long options | Materials: Polyester | Colors: 31

Hermoza Rachel Skirt Dress

While this one’s more of a splurge, its multifunctionality makes it a worthy all-in-one piece for any vacation. As a frequent traveler and Hawai’i resident, I was absolutely flabbergasted (and fascinated) when I found out this floral maxi skirt/dress hybrid is made of durable swimsuit material.

Pair it with the matching swimsuit top for a striking two-piece set by the beach, wear it as a vibrant maxi dress to dinner, or style the skirt alone with a gauzy button-down and sandals for a jaunt through town. Of course, I love how convenient it is to wash and dry for travels, too.

Sizes: XS–L | Materials: Polyester, elastane | Colors: 1

Nashalyly Chiffon High-Waisted Pleated Skirt

This shopper-favorite maxi skirt has over 5,000 five-star ratings from Amazon customers, who note that you’ll want to size up for the best fit. Reviewers appreciate the skirt’s easy movement, comfortable elastic waist, and how many outfits they can build with it.

Sizes: S–3XL | Materials: Chiffon | Colors: 44

Daily Practice by Anthropologie Parachute Pants

Anthropologie

These pants are my personal go-to. I wear them to work in, to work out in, and to casual gatherings and nights out with friends. Most crucially, I wear them every single time I pass through an airport. They’re incredibly comfortable, lightweight (I tend to overheat on travel days), and adaptable, with plenty of pockets for easy ID and passport access. I’ve bought them in multiple colors, from neutrals to bolds.

Sizes: XXS–3X plus petite sizing | Materials: Nylon | Colors: 9

Even if you’re wearing the same pair of jeans day in, day out for the duration of your ten-day stint to Australia, Greece, or wherever you’re traveling, the right top can make a similar foundation feel like an entirely different look. First, you’ll want a collection of sleek, basic tanks and tops for ultimate versatility. Or perhaps a nautical, striped button down, ideally summoning visions of boat days and beachside barbecues. (Oh, and easy sun protection.) As Jessica Alba proves with white jeans and coordinating sneakers, the look is seasonal and sophisticated .

And is there anything better than wearing a delicate eyelet blouse on a hot summer day? A breezy blouse can serve as a dressy swimsuit cover-up at the beach. It can also keep your wardrobe work-friendly while on a Zoom meeting across time zones, or give a romantic vibe during date night.

Wear it loose like Taylor Swift out for a summer walk, or tucked in like Jennifer Aniston at dinner in Paris. Either way, a casual blouse might just be a better companion on your vacation than your plus one.

This pullover top can be styled in a variety of ways, making it a must-have on any trip with limited packing space. The subtle side ruching and cap sleeve add some feminine detail that dress it up for more elevated occasions, but it’s definitely casual enough to rock on a daily basis. As another PEOPLE writer noted , the cap sleeve is an ideal middle ground between a tank and short sleeve — which might be why Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift are so fond of the style.

Sizes: XXS–4X | Materials: Recycled polyester, spandex | Colors: 4

H&M Top with Eyelet Embroidery Sleeves

A simple eyelet short-sleeve top can serve you on many occasions, whether jetting off on a day trip or trekking to your regular weekend brunch spot. At only $20, this adorable H&M puff-sleeve is just frothy enough to add a little je ne sais quoi , but has a  French simplicity at its core.

AE Perfect Button-Up Shirt

American Eagle

Right now, this American Eagle button-up is 60 percent off in all colors.

Okay, we’ll admit it: We never quite got over the coastal grandmother trend. And why should we? The whole point is that it’s timeless, classic, and elegant whether you’re going all-in on a preppy look or simply throwing on a striped button-down as a cover-up after the beach. This soft, effortless shirt has a slightly oversized fit for extra comfort.

Sizes: XXS–XXL | Materials: 100% cotton | Colors: 8

The Other Travel Clothes You’re Forgetting

Tops? Check. Flowy pants and skirts? Check. Dresses that you can wear out or treat as a cover-up? Practically the daily uniform. Still, there are a few other staples you’ll want to make sure you have on hand, too. It’s an oft-repeated cliché, but layering truly is key.

Levi’s Womens 501 Original Jean Shorts

These Levi’s shorts are currently 40 percent off at Amazon.

Jean shorts are essential for casual days strolling through a city or impromptu meetups with friends. Throw them on over a sleek swimsuit or break them out in transitional weather. And this isn’t the only Levi’s denim we’re fond of — two of its most popular jeans hold space in our team’s closets, too.

Sizes: 23–39 | Materials: Denim | Colors: 44

AE Long Weekend Crewneck Sweater

This American Eagle Crewneck Sweater is 60 percent off for a limited time.

A layerable neutral sweater is another travel must-have, especially in that frigid airplane air conditioning. Similarly, for those long stretches away from home, an oversized sweater can also be a cuddly comfort for when you’re missing your own bed.

Sizes: XXS–L | Materials: Cotton | Colors: 1

How to Pack the Best Travel Clothes

When building your travel wardrobe, you’ll want to consider factors like trip duration, climate, and more. Do you want year-round items or would you rather commit to rotating your staples seasonally? Will you have access to laundry? (If not, you’ll want to opt for fabrics that wick away odor and sweat so you can get multiple wears out of each item.) Are there sights or situations that have etiquette requirements and dress codes requiring a certain amount of coverage?

Some personal guidance as a travel expert: Many packing guides might swear by a neutral, minimalist capsule wardrobe for ultimate frequency of wear, but you shouldn’t be afraid to go maximalist either. If you pick comfortable, durable pieces, you’ll still get more use from those “singular” funky outfits than you expect — and your camera roll will thank you for choosing the pieces you actually love most. Similarly, accessories like bold jewelry or belts generally take up very little luggage real estate but go a long way in elevating any look. Might as well add some pizzazz to your Pisa pic, right?

And don’t forget the packing cubes and travel organizers to get the most space out of your carry-on suitcase , either.

Grace Smith is a fashion and travel writer who, as a frequent hotel reviewer, spends as much time as possible floating through various destinations. Long flights (and the resulting OOTDs) are very much her forte. She extensively combed through shopper reviews, expert commentary, and celebrity insights for the top travel clothing items. 7 Minimalist Outfit Ideas for Your Summer Travel Capsule Wardrobe

Simplify your suitcase with instant outfits like elevated linen sets, lightweight layers, and breezy dresses.

woman wearing white button down and white pants

Balmy days are on the horizon, and you likely have a sun-filled trip (or two) lined up on your schedule. Whether you’re jetting off to a tropical island or heading to a bustling city, you’ll want to rely on a summer travel capsule wardrobe to make the most of your vacation days. After all, you should be spending your time lounging or exploring—not rummaging through your overstuffed suitcase while trying to figure out what to wear.

A summer travel capsule wardrobe should include easy-to-style practical staples with versatile neutral hues and simple silhouettes that you can effortlessly cycle through on rotation. As you pack for your next summer getaway, consider pieces like airy linen pants to help you beat the sweltering heat, white button-down shirts that can be used as both beach cover-ups and casual tops, and comfortable shoes that can be worn during an entire day of sightseeing.

Now that you've completed the basics let's get into the outfits. If you’re a fashion enthusiast like myself, you’ll find that mixing and matching these pieces is where the fun really begins. I’ve curated a list of looks that will round out any summer travel capsule wardrobe—from a crisp linen set you can wear during the day to the perfect minimalist maxi dress for a night out. Follow this outfit formula and all that’s left for you to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy your vacation.

A timeless white linen set can (and should) be worn on repeat during any summer vacation.

A multipurpose white button-down is essential, no matter the design. Wear it as a cover-up on the beach, or style it with matching linen pants for a casual day out (as seen above). You could even style this monochromatic uniform as an elevated alternative to a sweat set for your next airport outfit . To compliment this look, throw a few neutral accessories into the mix.

Sea View Linen Cover-Up Tunic

A Laid-Back Top With Airy Linen Shorts

woman wearing tube top and shorts

Prioritize comfort with a casual outfit that's easy to move around in.

A few summers ago, I traveled to Madrid and wore a casual top paired with loose-fitting linen shorts practically every other day—for leisurely city walks, local food market trips, and even museum visits. This practical look has remained one of my go-to travel capsule wardrobe outfits. If your trip itinerary involves countless city excursions, I recommend wearing this outfit styled with a pair of cushioned sneakers and a hands-free crossbody bag .

Sweater Tube Top

A Sophisticated Maxi Dress With Elevated Accessories

woman wearing black dress

Alongside casual basics, your summer travel capsule wardrobe should include a few elevated pieces for formal occasions.

If you’re planning a girl's trip or a romantic getaway with your special someone, I’m guessing you’ve got plenty of evening dinners on the itinerary. The foolproof option for a night out is a sleek black maxi dress embellished with subtle pieces of silver jewelry . This look will not only serve you during your next summer vacation but also for many warm-weather trips to come. because a black maxi dress and sleek accessories will never go out of style.

Sariah Smocked Organic Cotton Midi Dress

A Cozy Cardigan With Lightweight Layers

woman wearing striped top and white shorts

Summer is filled with sizzling hot days, but that doesn't mean temperatures can't drop. Prepare for chilly moments by the shore with a snug cardigan.

For your next seaside vacation, you’ll want to pack a cardigan to throw over your shoulders when coastal temperatures fall. Any lightweight layer will fit the bill, but consider a striped sweater to give your travel capsule wardrobe a nautical-inspired boost. Style this piece over a gauzy outfit so you won’t overheat. Carry a beach bag that’s large enough to store your sweater if you decide to shed a layer.

Emilie Sweater Lady Jacket in Stripe

A Breathable Top With a Roomy Skirt

woman wearing tank top and skirt

You simply can't go wrong with neutral basics. For style inspiration, look no further than this easy outfit.

Alongside linen shorts and pants, a relaxed skirt is another warm-weather essential for plenty of use during a sun-filled vacation. Choose a neutral shade—white, tan, or beige—that will go well with other colors. For an uncomplicated look, team your roomy skirt with a breathable tank top and take the subdued color palette further with brown slide sandals and a matching leather-trimmed tote. If you’re in the mood for jewelry, heat things up with warm gold accessories.

Madewell Supima® Rib Cutaway Tank

A Colorful Dress With a Woven Bag and Statement Accessories

woman wearing yellow dress

Play into summery colors by way of a relaxed dress.

While the foundation of your travel capsule wardrobe should include great mix-and-match basics, you’re allowed to spice things up here and there. Liven up your vacation outfits with a colorful dress—and if you’re stuck on which shade to choose try a trending butter yellow hue— a summery shade that will have a place in your warm-weather wardrobe for years to come. Complete this cheerful outfit with a woven bag and statement accessories to add some texture to your look.

The Corinna Dress

A Pair of Sporty Shorts With a Basic Top

woman wearing tube top and athletic shorts

For moments of downtime during your vacation, consider an easygoing outfit.

I love a travel itinerary packed with endless activities, but I always carve out a bit of downtime, too. Whether lounging around my hotel room or reading a book by the pool, I throw on this foolproof outfit formula for lazy vacation days: a pair of sporty shorts, a basic tank top, flip-flops, and a cozy, lightweight sweater.

What to Pack for Russia: Summer

Written By: Julia K.

If you made it to Moscow, Russia during summer, you’re in luck. Moscow offers a plethora of beautifully landscaped parks and festivals all over the city. If you want to know how to visit all those locations in style, continue reading!

Traveling to Russia in the winter? Read this post instead.

Packing List for Russia in the Summer

what-to-pack-for-russia

White Top  | Blouse |  Tank | Top |  Shirt |  Pant |  Pants | Skirt | Dress |  Dress  | Jacket | Cardigan | Flats | Wedge | Bag  | Hat

Summers in Moscow can get hot. It can range between 77-86°F (25-30°C) and sometimes be humid. Dressing appropriately, comfortably, and accordingly will save you a headache and make your stay more enjoyable.

Always check the weather forecast before your trip. Once you’ve researched the weather, you can focus on creating a travel capsule wardrobe , which should easily fit in a carryon suitcase with the help of packing cubes to compress your clothing.

Must-see attractions during summer include many parks, such as VDNH, Chistyye Prudy, Izmaylovo and Izmailovsky Park, and of course the famous antique and flea market called Vernisaj.

Start by reading these general tips on packing for summer travel:

  • Capsule Wardrobe for Summer
  • Top Summer Dresses Perfect for Europe
  • Lightweight Jackets for Easy Layers
  • Best Walking Shoes for Europe’s Cobblestone Streets

One can see a range of different styles in Moscow. After all, it’s a hub for many travelers, businesspeople, and locals. However, if you’d like to be perceived and treated in a particular way, then pay attention to the way you dress.

You may attract unwanted attention if you wear clothing that’s inappropriate to the local culture. Observe what people are wearing around you and these tips should help point you in the right direction before you arrive.

The following suggestions are based on the perspective of a local born in Moscow.

What to pack for Russia if you’re going to any of the parks:

what-to-pack-for-russia

Blouse | Shorts |  Hat | Scarf | Watch | Sunglasses | Purse  | Flats

  • Flat sandals or flats
  • Dressy shorts or a midi skirt (no shorter than one hand above the knee)
  • A nice blouse
  • A crossbody bag
  • A hat and sunglasses
  • Jewelry and a watch

If you’ll be staying out all day into the evening, wearing layers is key. Pack a shawl or a cardigan for romantic walks next to the Moscow River.

Pro tip: Take a mosquito repellent just in case and apply sun protection wherever you go.

Read this post to find out our stylish strategies on how to layer clothes !

What not to wear:

As a local, I wouldn’t recommend wearing flip flops, short shorts, mini skirts, bright makeup, or see-through clothes. It’s a good idea not to show cleavage, unless you have a layer underneath. Choose understated jewelry instead of flashier pieces.

What to pack for Russia if you’re going to a festival:

Dress |  Hat  | Umbrella |  Crossbody  | Earrings | Lipstick | Watch |  Flats

  • A nice day dress
  • A pair of comfortable wedges
  • A light purse

Travel shoes:

Flats  |  Wedge |  Oxfords

If you’d like to explore Moscow, then comfortable shoes are a must!

The summer weather is pretty predictable. Based on that, you’ll need three pairs of shoes. One to explore the city, a pair to wear in your hotel room, and something for going out. Think: wedges, dressy flats with a thick sole, and flip-flops.

What are the most comfy shoes? These experts are giving you the inside scoop on their twenty-one top picks. Take a look !

What to pack for Russia if you’re going to enjoy dinner and a ferry ride along the Moscow River:

what-to-pack-for-russia

  • A midi skirt or cropped dressy pants
  • A dressy blouse
  • Comfortable but dressy shoes
  • An evening clutch
  • A jacket for any unexpected chill

Make sure your clothes are clean and neat, and that there are no flashy colors or over-the-top prints.

Summer is also a perfect opportunity to take a short trip to St. Petersburg, one of the most iconic cities in the world. It’s full of heritage, architecture, galleries, and art, even for the most discerning travelers and art lovers. You can get there by train or plane. Whichever is in your budget, pack with comfort and style in mind!

Whether you’re spending a summer abroad or finally taking that vacation you’ve been dreaming about for years, TFG has the ultimate long term packing list for your European adventures !

Some museums and churches might refuse service or admission if shoulders and knees are uncovered. I also recommend avoiding jean cutoffs and tank tops, as they may get unwanted attention.

When entering any religious building modesty should be considered, these tips will help you learn how to pack!

Shopping tips:

Moscow has every single store you could think of! From global luxury brands to everyday wear, it caters to many budgets.

If you want to arrive during sale season, then arrive one to two months before the end of the season. You can pick up European-made goods cheaper than in North America. Good shopping malls include Afimall located in Moscow City (another must see) and Evropeiskii located at Kievsky train station.

Toni

I’m traveling to Moscow in five days and was wondering if I should really not wear shorts. I’ve been to Nizhny Novgorod in the summer and Moscow in the winter so I have a few ideas about what to wear, but I thought that shorts wouldn’t be so bad.

Your Travel Capsule Wardrobe: 10 Pieces, Endless Outfits

We may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article.

Over the years, I’ve learned a few secrets to a happy life. Takeaways include: Proceed with kindness. Prioritize simplicity. And the kicker—never check your luggage. Sometimes it’s impossible, but when I have the opportunity, being a “carry-on only” girl streamlines every trip. Because I’ve dubbed this the summer of adventure and play, I’m not overcomplicating anything —my travel capsule wardrobe, included.

I’ve been to Japan , Mexico , Joshua Tree and countless other destinations with just a carry-on in tow. The key is to pack multi-use items that can be worn for various occasions and styled in creative ways. By doing that, you ensure every piece can be worn multiple times. That’s right, we’re only making space for clothes that do the most. For that, I always look to my friends at Haven Well Within . The brand is my go-to for pieces that are effortless but elevated—perfecting a laidback but thoughtfully put-together look. Their Summertime Shop is a well-curated edit of all the breezy, lightweight fabrics and summer-inspired colors I love wearing this time of year.

Read on for my styling tips and all my favorite Haven Well Within pieces I’m adding to my travel capsule wardrobe this summer.

How I Plan My Summer Travel Capsule Wardrobe

I should be clear: while I’ll carve out space for some sightseeing, the main goal of my summer travels is to rest and recharge. As such, I’ve intentionally aligned the ethos of my travel capsule wardrobe. I’m leaning into a handful of my favorite, versatile items that can be mixed and matched. The result? Gorgeous vacation outfits that help me feel my best and keep decision-making to a minimum. By keeping my options pared back, I can focus on relaxing instead of stressing about what I’m going to wear.

May through August, there’s also a sense of the world opening and coming to life all around us. It’s a balance of making the most of these longer days while still leaning into moments of quiet and stillness. For me, while on vacation, that looks like a full embrace of all summer has to offer. I’m packing outfits that let me prioritize my well-being (yoga, walks, etc.) and enjoying apéritifs on the patio and plenty of dinners al fresco. Essentially, I want to feel good from the inside out—and these travel capsule wardrobe pieces from Haven Well Within help me do exactly that.

Check the Weather

Before you do anything, this is an absolute must. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been burned thinking I’ll head somewhere and assuming it’ll be mid-80s and sunny. Learn from my mistake: check your weather app a few days in advance to see what the weather’s doing at your destination. Because this is the summer, obviously you won’t need to bring your heaviest jacket. But anticipate chillier evenings that call for a sweater or wrap. I like to bring at least one layering piece that I’ll wear on the plane. (I can’t be the only one who’s always freezing while flying!)

Define Your Vibe

A travel capsule wardrobe shouldn’t just make sense from a practical standpoint—your clothes should also express a vibe . Before curating anything, I like to focus on a few words that define the energy and aesthetic of my wardrobe. Because my trip itinerary is from Ibiza to Provence to Paris, I’m aiming for a Mediterranean-inspired, European summer feel. (Effortless, but elevated.) That translates to easy layers, flowy fabrics, and pieces that do well with or without accessories.

Along with this, I also like to create a color story. Because we’re aiming for pieces that mix and match well, you want to incorporate just a few colors into the mix. Here, I opted for creamy whites, natural linen, darker accents, and just a few prints. That way, I have plenty of neutrals to work with while also creating enough interest in each outfit choice.

Plan Your Outfits

Maybe this seems obvious, but you want to ensure in advance that you’ll actually wear what you’re bringing. Try on individual pieces to confirm that you have enough outfit options for the length of your stay. Snap mirror selfies for every outfit so you have a plan to refer back to. This prevents you from overpacking, as you’ll know to bring only what’s included in your outfit formulas.

Choose Your Accessories Wisely

When you’re tight on packing space, you need to make your accessories work for you. That means no teeny-tiny bags that can only fit a credit card—I’m opting for purses, shoes, and sunglasses that I’ll pair with every outfit. Raffia is a perfect material to lean on as it’s both trendy and timeless, giving all your fits a distinct summer feel. I’ll carry the Raffia Market Bag to the beach, meals out, and of course, for every farmer’s market haul (it’s Europe, you know there’ll be plenty). I also love a flat sandal that’s comfy but still special enough to slide on for an evening out. And lastly, sunnies add an instant element of chicness to your look, without taking up hardly any space in your personal item.

Prioritize Season-Specific Fabrics

Summer is not the time to pull out your best cashmere (though a cashmere wrap can come in handy for colder nights). Instead, look for summer-appropriate fabrics and materials that you can easily throw on. Right now, I’m loving gauze, French terry, and linen. Not only does the look scream summer, but they’re light enough to keep you from overheating under the hot summer sun. And… they also layer well. So when you do need a little more warmth, you’re covered.

Follow the Two-Shoe Rule

This is a hill I will happily die on. Because we’re opting for lighter fabrics, your shoes will inevitably take up the most space in your suitcase. Minimize the issue by packing only two pairs. I like a pair of strappy slides that I can easily dress up or down and a bonus shoe (either a sneaker, boot, or whatever you need for additional activities and events). Then, I’ll wear my Common Projects sneakers on the flight. They double as my casual shoe while still being comfortable enough to wear for several hours in the air.

Be Ruthless With Your Skincare

We’ve exclusively chatted clothes up until this point, but if you’re like me, you’ll be tempted to pack your entire medicine cabinet into your carry-on. A word to the wise: don’t. I separate my skincare and makeup into two bags, my Beis cosmetic case for the former and a smaller waterproof bag for my makeup. From there, I make sure I’m packing only what I’ll use every day (and I’m following Gen Z’s cue and prioritizing multifunctional makeup). For more makeup and skincare packing tips our beauty editor shares her tried-and-true strategy.

What to wear in Russia

What to Wear in Russia

Top style tips for russia.

  • Russia is fairly conservative, and if you choose to wear bright colors – particularly in the winter months – you will stand out.
  • Jeans are always popular here and, teamed with lighter layers for the summer and warmer ones for the winter, will serve as a versatile base to your wardrobe.
  • Add in a smarter outfit for more formal occasions , such as the ballet or opera. Whilst it's not compulsory, the locals do dress up for these events and you'll feel more comfortable if you do the same.
  • The attitude towards wearing fur is very different in Russia compared to Western Europe. Fur is very common and relatively cheap, and you will see a lot of people wearing it.
  • If you are looking for a highly versatile travel jacket to bring along we recommend the  SCOTTeVEST  range. Their range of jackets have been specifically designed with traveling in mind and include RFID security (to protect your passport information), 23 secure pockets and personal connectivity integration.

Shoes to pack for Russia

  • If you're intending to see as many sites as possible during your trip (and there are a lot to see) you'll be doing a good deal of walking – so be sure to pack some comfortable walking shoes . We love Hotter shoes , for total comfort along with style.

Pack for the weather

  • November, December, January, February and March are freezing so be ready to dress warmly. Our advice would be to pack warm layers.
  • For extra warmth pack some long thermal underwear – you'll be grateful you did.
  • light wool is a good choice to wear against your skin as it naturally helps to regulate your body temperature . It keeps you warm in the cold, wicks away moisture when it's hot, and doesn't retain odours – even after prolonged wear.
  • Muscovites wear a lot of fur in the winter – for a reason. Whether your preference is for fake or the real thing, you are well advised to have a very thick warm coat, gloves and scarf. A hat and/or ear muffs are also a very good idea. A furry lining or trim will keep you even cosier.
  • Wear really good boots with soft rubber soles . It's important that you get soft rubber soles because even medium soles get really hard in the freezing cold. Make sure too that they have large spaces between the tracks, or the snow will get stuck in them and make them very slippery.
  • Dressing in layers will help you with the temperature changes during the day, whatever time of year you visit.
  • Be sure to pack your swimwear if you want to join in the winter time ritual bathing in hot and cold pools, steam rooms and saunas.
  • We love the Weather+ app – it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too – a nice way to remember your trip 🙂

Clothing tips for women

  • Moscow and St Petersburg are very much like any other cosmopolitan city ; women love to dress up and are rarely seen without make-up and high heels.
  • But, with all the sightseeing to do, we suggest you save your high heels for the evenings.
  • A few well chosen pieces of costume jewelry will transform any outfit.
  • And a pashmina is a versatile piece too that will dress up any outfit – try it with a simple smart dress.
  • If you are planning to visit an Orthodox Church be sure to cover your head with a scarf, and cover up bare arms and legs – your pashmina or wrap can come in handy for this too.
  • If you are in Russia on business, pack a conservative skirt-suit with tights or stockings and smart shoes.

Clothing tips for men

  • If you are in Russia on business men are expected to wear a dark, well tailored suit and tie, with smart shoes.

Regions of Russia

  • No trip would be complete without sight of Moscow's palatial metro (underground) dripping with chandeliers.
  • For travel on the Trans-Siberian railway you'll need to dress in layers. The train itself is very warm inside, but for the frequent half-hour stops you'll need to put on boots, warm coat, hat and gloves as it can be freezing outside. There are power outlets for charging your phone etc, but don't leave it unattended and you'll need an adaptor. Take soft drinks with you – it will be much cheaper than buying them on board, and snacks will be useful especially in the winter when there are fewer sellers on the platforms.

Other things to pack

  • You'll need a visa for Russia, and arrange it well in advance to avoid paying a premium at the last minute. Remember too that you must carry your passport with you at all times.
  • If you don't buy Russian Rubles before you go, take US dollars or Euros as they are far easier to change once in the country.
  • To use electrical gadgets you may need a travel adapter plug , and also a step down voltage converter if your devices are not designed for Russian voltage (220V) .
  • A lightweight day sack or shoulder bag will come in handy to carry your sightseeing essentials.
  • If you tend to buy bottled water , consider carrying a LifeStraw Filtration Water Bottle – fill up from any source and get clean, safe drinking water without wasting plastic bottles.
  • Avoid paying unexpected baggage fees – use an accurate luggage scale to ensure you keep within the weight allowance. Don't forget to leave room for souvenirs on the way home! The ‘ Mastryoshka ‘ nesting dolls are famous of course, but look out too for amber jewelry and beautiful lacquer boxes . If you want to stock up on vodka , remember you will need to pack it in checked-in luggage unless you buy at the airport duty-free.
  • And a final tip – note that it's considered bad luck to whistle indoors !

  • Pack shoes that are comfortable to wear the whole day. If you are traveling in winter, then you prefer boots over sneakers. It is because, with sneakers, there is always a chance your foot will get wet in the rain.

What To Wear In Russia - Tips

CASUAL & EASY OUTFITS

You can find hiking trails, parks, and much other adventurous stuff to do in Russia. So pack casual and easy outfits in which you can feel comfortable all day.

Instead of heels, I suggest you carry sneakers because you will walk a lot there. You can wear shorts, there’s no harm in that, but jeans are more prevalent among locals.

21 – Yellow Top With Black High-Waisted Pants And Green Silk Oversized Shirt For Airport

For the airport, always select comfy clothes. Whenever I choose my airport outfits , I remember that the fabric shouldn’t be too tight because it can be irritating if the flight is long. You can always choose oversized hoodies for the airport, but this outfit is perfect if you want to look chic.

Pick a yellow crop top with black high-waisted pants. You can pair it with any oversized button-down shirt. Roll the sleeves up for a chic look.

Lastly, choose your comfiest pair of sneakers to complete your look. Accessorize your look with black shades and carry a tote bag for all your belongings.

What To Wear In Russia

20 – Olive Spaghetti Strap Crop Camisole With White Collared Crop Top And Beige Shorts

Another casual outfit you can easily wear on a sunny day is an olive spaghetti strap camisole with beige shorts. You can wear an oversized shirt and tie it from the front to create a cover-up, or you can also wear a cropped jacket.

For footwear, sneakers are the best option if you plan to walk. Otherwise, white slides will also look fine.

This outfit is perfect for the day when you haven’t planned much for the trip and want to walk around the streets to appreciate the surroundings casually.

What To Wear In Russia

19 – Green Sweatshirt With Light Blue Flared Denim Jeans And Mint Sherpa Jacket

While in Russia, you had to travel from one city to another. Russia has one of the largest rails, so you should definitely experience it while you are there.

Don’t bother to wear anything too fancy for your train ride. Just wear a hoodie and light blue flared denim jeans. Pair your outfit with a mint green sherpa jacket.

Another tip if you are visiting Russia for the first time is don’t carry too much stuff. Instead of taking many handbags, go with a staple crossbody bag and a big tote bag that can fit your important stuff.

travel outfit sets

Russia has a lot of monuments to visit. Cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg are famous for heritage and culture, so you can see museums, galleries, and architecture.

Although Russians are not the biggest fan of bold and bright patterns, but you can wear dark shades for the night outs, like a fancy dinner at a yacht.

I suggest wearing light colors for the churches and museums and going with dresses because they look more formal. If you are on a business trip, then choose skirts.

18 – Purple Crewneck Full-Sleeves Midi Dress With Pink Belt And Purple Hat

If you want to wear modern clothes in Russia, but for a formal gathering, then there’s nothing a better option than a crewneck midi dress.

You can add a pink belt and a purple hat for a voguish look. Go with transparent heels if you are attending a party or brown boots if you are just out to admire the beauty of the place.

Accessorize your outfit with a few bracelets and rings. A little tip for you is to avoid neck pieces with crewneck dresses. Keep your makeup minimal, and a bright shade of lipstick is all you need to

What To Wear In Russia

17 – Red Silk Front Knot Bishop Sleeves Top With Matching Red Skirt

A Red Silk outfit is the perfect option for clubbing when you are in Russia. You can wear lace-up heels with this dress for an evening glam look.

Keep your makeup dewy, and use minimal jewelry to complete the look. Lastly, do your hair in a beachy waves style, so you don’t have to tie them up.

What To Wear In Russia

SUMMER & SPRING OUTFITS

Summer is a perfect time to travel to Russia if you want to explore this country’s hidden gems. The temperature ranges from 20 to 30-degree celsius. Remember that Russians wear modest clothing, so don’t bring anything too short. Otherwise, you will feel uncomfortable around the locals.

Although you can enjoy good sunny days in Russia, you will soon find out that the temperature is unpredictable. So always carry light wear jackets and umbrellas with you.

16 – Black And White Stripe Sweatshirt With Beige Pleated Skirt And Fleece Stockings

An easy way to wear skirts in Russia is to pair them with stockings. You can wear any top from your wardrobe or a sweatshirt and wear a skirt. Choose chunky white sneakers to complete the look.

What To Wear In Russia

15 – Printed Elastic Top With Brown Oversized Button Down Shirt And Beige High-Waisted Pants

Printed shirts are pretty popular these days. You can easily pair them with cargo pants or high-waisted jeans. Add a beige oversized button-down shirt to bring that spring vibe. Lastly, a tote bag would match the look perfectly.

travel outfit sets

14 – White Sports Bra, White Pleated Skirt, And Pink Sheer Button-Down Shirt

What to pack for Russia in summer is the most asked question by first-time visitors. You don’t have to go over the board while packing. Keep your luggage minimum, so you don’t have to worry about that. Since we are talking about summer, an all-white outfit is a must. Pair a white sports bra with a white pleated skirt.

You can add a feminine touch by wearing a pink button-down shirt over it. Keep the buttons open, or tie them from the front as you like. Lastly, choose white pair of sneakers to finish the look. Keep your jewelry minimal, and that’s it.

What To Wear In Russia

13 – White Crop Top, Ripped Blue Jeans, And Denim Crop Jacket

Another important question I have mostly heard is what not to wear in Russia. When you search your query, you might get answers like don’t wear ripped jeans in Russia. However, the reality is that tourists in Russia have no dress code.

Pair a white tank top with blue jeans and wear a blue denim jacket. Choose white sneakers and match your belt with the color of your footwear. For the accessory, add silver hoops to keep your look elegant. Last but not least, don’t forget to carry a sling bag.

What To Wear In Russia

WINTER & FALL OUTFITS

Russain winters are extremely cold, and you can face heavy snowfall, so always come prepared for that. The temperature varies from -2°C/28°F to -28°C/-18°F. Therefore, it’s wise to pack a lot of layers.

Whether going to Moscow’s Red Square or Hermitage Museum at the Winter Palace, you need to wear a lot of warm clothes. I suggest wearing a thermal first, then a sweater, and lastly a long coat – basically you want to layer like a pro . Wear waterproof boots and don’t forget to pack gloves.

12 – Blue And White Turtle Neck Sweater With Black Jeans And Black Fur Coat

Winters are always extreme in Russia, especially from November to March. Try to pack according to the season, and I suggest checking the weather app for dates of your stay beforehand because Russia’s cold weather can freeze you to death. Another factor to consider here is which cities are on your list.

Wear a sweater with your warmest jeans. Now layer a black fur coat and white cap. You can also add wool gloves; trust me, you will need them. Use a crossbody bag; it will be easy to carry around.

What To Wear In Russia

11 – Black Crop Top And Pink Sweatpants With Black Denim Jacket

If you are visiting an area that is not so cold, pair your black sweatshirt with pink joggers. Add a black leather jacket to give you a comfy yet stylish vibe. Choose chunky sneakers for that extra height. Lastly, add black shades to complete your look.

travel outfit sets

10 – Light Blue Turtle Neck And Leather Blazer With White Sherpa Coat

If you like leather blazers and trousers, pair them with a light blue turtleneck and a white sherpa coat. You can accessorize minimal jewelry. Also, for snowy areas, wear boots instead of sneakers. Add colors with pink sunglasses, and that’s it.

travel outfit sets

09 – White Turtle Neck And Black Pants With Long White Coat And Checkered Print Muffler

A white turtle neck and white coat are a great combination with black jeans and black boots. But to elevate the look of your outfit, add prints with mufflers or caps. Checkered print in white and black is an excellent option for pairing.

travel outfit sets

08 – Off-White Co-Ord Set With Boots And Long Oversized Brown Coat

Co-ord sets are pretty common these days; almost everyone has a pair of them in their wardrobe. You can layer your white co-ord set with thermals and put on a brown wool coat for extreme weather. Wool coats are best for Russian winters, so don’t forget to pack them with you.

travel outfit sets

07 – Greyish Black Turtleneck Dress With Black Wool Coat And Checkered Bucket Hat

Turtleneck dresses look super cute and are easy to style. Thanks to the legging makers who came up with the idea that you can wear leggings in winter, and thanks to Tiktok for making it so popular. Also, add a black wool coat and a bucket hat to finish the look.

travel outfit sets

06 – Green V-Neck Pleated Midi Dress With White Strap Sandals

Midi dresses are the perfect option for desi moms on vacation. Not too fancy but not so casual, wear green midi dresses with white strap sandals. Either go with sandals or choose sneakers, depending on your comfort level.

What To Wear In Russia

05 – White Hoodie And White Straight Pants With Colorful Printed Coat And White Mary Jane Shoes

White hoodies, sweatpants, and a colorful cardigan are the best ways to spend your lazy days in Russia when you want to roam around the streets. Also, the colorful cardigan is a staple piece because you can style it with many outfits.

What To Wear In Russia

04 – Black Spaghetti Strap Mini Dress With White Detailing And Long Fur Coat

When it comes to styling statement pieces, no one can do it better than Hailey Bieber. Choose a black mini dress and pair it with a long fur coat. Add long boots to finish the look. It’s a perfect outfit for clubbing in Russia.

What To Wear In Russia

03 – Beige Turtle Neck And High Waisted Skirt With Brown Belt And Beige Coat

If sophistication and elegance could be defined with one picture, then this would be it. Pair the beige turtleneck with a high-waist skirt. You can add a beige or brown long beige coat. Style long brown boots with this outfit and match your belt with boots to add colors to the look.

What To Wear In Russia

02 – Grey Top With Black Elastic Waist Trousers And Black Blazer

A grey ribbed shirt with black elastic waist trousers is perfect for comfortable sightseeing in Russia. There is no specific dress code for tourists in Russia so you can style everything. Choose a black blazer if you want to keep your look subtle. Accessorize your outfit with golden hoops, and a chain necklace would be a nice addition.

Carry a vibrant or bright color bag to contrast the outfit. Lastly, sightseeing means a lot of walking, so pick your most comfortable sandals, and you are all set to go out for the day.

What To Wear In Russia

01 – Green Printed V-NeckFront-Knot Pleated Midi Dress With Black Sandals

Another excellent outfit if you want to dress apart from traditional clothes in Russia is a flowy midi pleated dress. You can choose a V-neck long sleeves dark green dress with embellishment of black detailing on it. Choose black sandals with laces so you can wrap them around your foot.

Roll up the sleeves if the weather is too hot. By the way, it is the best look to go with if you are searching for what to wear in Russia in summer. Wear a smartwatch as an accessory. Lastly, pick up your colored shades so you can enjoy the sightseeing without getting your eyes affected by sun rays.

What To Wear In Russia

Q: Can you wear jeans in Russia?

Ans: Russia never directly bans jeans. However, in the past, there were restrictions on clothing from the western world, but now jeans are pretty popular in style here and will serve as an adjustable base for your outfit when paired with lighter layers in the summer and heavier ones in the winter.

Q: Is there a dress code in Russia?

Ans: For Russians, there are some standard norms for dressing. However, for tourists there’s no dress code in Russia.

Q: How should I dress in Moscow?

Ans: Because of how conservative Russia is, bright colors will make you stick out, especially in the winter. Moreover, denim is very popular in Moscow in the summer and throughout the year.

12 Cozy Travel Outfits That Come in Easy 2-piece Sets — From Just $32 at Amazon

These matching sets are so comfy, they’ve gone viral on TikTok and YouTube.

travel outfit sets

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

Even if you’re a frequent traveler, it takes a little trial and error before you realize that it’s no fun to take a cross-country train ride or an intercontinental flight with the seams of your leggings digging in the entire time. That’s why two-piece matching sets are having a major moment among style seekers who refuse to sacrifice comfort while navigating airports and beyond. TikTok and YouTube influencers are leading the charge, and Amazon is their top destination for two-piece lounge sets that make the ideal go-to travel outfit.

I’ve been taking notes for a while, as these social media mavens have it down to an art, selecting sets based on important details like the fit of the waistband, the feel of the fabric, and the quality of the stitching. Their picks are typically loose enough to accommodate a full day of travel — even in economy — but tailored enough to keep them looking cute enough for impromptu photos en route.

I scoured social media for 12 of the top picks by popular stars of the platform, and their outfits — from stylish matching sweatsuits to quiet luxury-inspired coordinating lounge sets — don’t disappoint. Even better: each set is $50 or less at Amazon ahead of Black Friday.

Anrabess Oversized Knit Pullover and Drawstring Wide Leg Pants

Gotta catch a 6 a.m. flight? Been there. Make your coffee strong and pair it with this coffee-colored two-piece that earned TikToker Holland Smith Paterno more than 15,000 likes. Not only is it “such good quality,” but it’s also amazingly comfy with slits at the legs and the sides of the top that let them drape nicely on any figure. “Bye I’m sold,” wrote a commenter, while an Amazon reviewer said, “10/10 cozy, comfy, and stylish. This two-piece lounge set is everything,” Shop it in 14 other colors if brown isn’t your thing.

Automet Oversized 2-Piece Lounge Matching Set

Enthusiastic and popular YouTuber Shea Whitney does her homework, and she’s anointed this two-piece lounge set “the perfect travel outfit.” Bold words — but 250,000 viewers and hundreds of commenters agree. This set is for anyone who wants to stay warm but feels restricted or overheated when their legs are covered for the entire trip. It’s got a billowy half-zip sweatshirt and shorts, both in a soft, thick cotton blend.

“I cannot tell you how nice this two-piece set is,” she gushed, calling it “unbelievably plush and soft.” A reviewer chimed in, “This outfit is super comfortable, it's ideal for the airport.” Whitney loves it in apricot, but it comes in 14 more colors, too.

The Drop Mia Bell-Sleeve Deep V-Neck Supersoft Sweater

“The Amazon set you need in every color” is how TikToker Zee describes The Drop Mia two-piece set, seen here in Blue Sapphire but available in six more hues — not to mention sizes XXS up to 5X. The baggy V-neck sweater and pants combo is “super soft” and “not bulky” says an Amazon reviewer. Zee accessorizes it with loafers and a leather purse, showing just how versatile this outfit is. But me? I’ve got my sneakers and tote bag ready for a cozy travel set like this.

Zesica Crop Top and Pants

TikToker Jen gets it. “POV: you found an airport outfit that’s both comfy and chic,” she writes over a TikTok of her pulling this cozy Zesica stunner from its packaging in crisp white (it comes in 14 other colors too). It’s hard to resist the tailored two-piece with elastic cuffs at the ankles and the wrists of its cute crop top. Pockets always help when you’re on the go, and this set has got them. “Very comfortable. Wore them on a 6-hour plane trip. Washed up great; love the style and look,” wrote an Amazon fan.

Anrabess Oversized Sweatsuit Set

What should you wear to the airport? According to YouTuber Sisters Guide to Style , the best option is this sweatsuit set, which manages to keep you in cozy sportswear while looking as stylish as an influencer. Tell the airport paparazzi at LAX to stand back when you rock this streamlined tracksuit with a pair of running shoes.

“I love this sweatsuit. The dark brown is beautiful and a good switch from black. The thickness of the fabric is perfect. I can’t wait to use it on our next overnight flight,” wrote a five-star reviewer.

Etcyy Crewneck Sweatsuit with Jogger Pants

The YouTube star at Playing the Mom Game is one tough customer, and after trying on an entire Amazon haul for her video that accrued 75,000 views and commenters thanking her for “doing all the hard work for us,” there were only two loungewear sets she crowned as winners. One is the ETCYY Knitted Sweatsuit , which comes in 14 colors and patterns including this rosy pink.

She called the set “really soft” and the pants “nice and long.” She’s also a sucker for a soft waistband, and this one makes the cut. “Once I tried it on, it fit great. Not too loose and very comfortable. This will be great to wear for a car/plane ride this winter,” wrote an Amazon reviewer.

Anrabess Knit Top Fall Sweater Set

Popular YouTuber Dana Baez is so smitten with this Anrabess fall sweater set that she’s bragged about it in multiple videos, one of which got 20,000 views from curious travelers. The winter-friendly long-sleeved version is just as flowy and cozy as its warm-weather counterpart and comes in 19 color options.

“I just adore this two-piece set. It fits true to size,” she says. What makes this one so unique is it’s a set that coordinates instead of matching, with a ribbed sweater top and sweatpants in monochromatic tones. “I get compliments from people I don’t know!” raved an Amazon customer.

Tanming Sweater Set

“This set is giving me all of the quiet luxury vibes,” said YouTuber Baez about another of her top travel picks, the Tanming Sweater Set . In black with white trim, it truly does have a posh look, but it’s one of the lower-priced options: just $32 on sale. “It’s an oversized fit so it really is this relaxed, chic look,” Baez adds of the viscose blend outfit. “Perfect travel outfit; dress it up, dress it down. So versatile!” wrote a five-star reviewer.

Ugerlov Two-Piece Sweater Set

This coordinating Ugerlov set from Amazon got 84,000 views and more than 150 comments in a video posted by YouTuber Marnie Goldberg , who notes, “This sweater set: I love it, the whole world apparently loves it. It’s taken the internet by storm.” And we can see why. Its knit top and tapered pants are another quiet luxury-inspired piece — probably because it’s a Free People dead-ringer — and the set is especially fetching in khaki. “This outfit is everything. I’m just in shock how much I love them,” one reviewer wrote. “They are perfection.”

Anrabess Tracksuit

TikToker Aline Lowry is dedicated to helping women feel “elegant and comfortable,” and this Anrabess set nails it. She calls it “my favorite travel set,” and wears it in khaki, which we love — it’s almost like an upscale sweatsuit. The textured knit top is a perfect contrast to the smooth pants, so this one can transition easily into a vacation outfit once you arrive. “The outfit is comfortable to wear for long trips; it doesn’t wrinkle,” one customer wrote. “[It’s] also thick enough to keep me warm in the airplane cabin without blankets.”

BTFBM Two-Piece Tracksuit

TikToker Hallie Ragan put this flowy two-piece on my radar, and I’m loving that it’s lightweight and stretchy —because you don’t always need something thick or overly warm. Depending on your location and mode of travel, this ribbed number might just be it — and it can easily be topped with an oversized jean jacket if you need another layer. Plus, those wide legs are everything.

“I love this set,” Ragan wrote, and plenty of Amazon shoppers agree. “You could easily sleep in this as well,” one wrote. The BTFBM set comes in 14 colors including this deep green.

Prinbara Women's 2 Piece Outfits Lounge Sets

Now for something a little different and a little more breathable than your typical toasty loungewear. The Prinbara Linen Lounge Set is a standout with its cropped tank and trousers combo, and YouTuber Ally has crowned it the “best Amazon matching set” for travel. The lightweight and loose-fitting outfit comes in 17 great colors including striking navy. We can picture it now on your next winter getaway to that tropical beach you’ve been eyeing.

“I can wear it for work and play, thus making it perfect for travel,” wrote one customer. Worried about wrinkles? They added, “Wrinkles are easily removed by hanging.” It doesn’t get much better than that for travel.

As you start planning your next trip abroad, looking into hotels, flights and tourist attractions, don't forget that the key to a smooth travel experience is a great piece of luggage. When you're traveling internationally, it's especially important to bring a suitcase that complies with airline restrictions, is comfortable to carry or roll throughout your journey and has plenty of room for all of your belongings and your souvenirs for the trip home.

This top-performing suitcase from our best overall luggage brand Samsonite has repeatedly stood out in the Textiles Lab's and our consumers' tests and is priced under $200 — an incredible value. The hardside carry-on is made of polypropylene and weighs in at just 6.5 pounds, which is one of the lightest bags we've tested, so it won't eat too much into the lower weight restrictions set by many international airlines.

I was impressed by how easy it was to lift and roll the bag around, even when filled with our standard packing load. Despite the lightweight design, this carry-on is spacious with a butterfly-opening, unfolding into two primary compartments for easy packing, and there's an additional one inch of expandable storage with the pull of a zipper.

During our Lab evaluations, we liked how easy it was to pull the bag through our luggage obstacle course. While some testers said the telescopic handle felt a bit loose, the suitcase earned high scores for maneuverability, with testers sharing feedback including "very smooth rolling" and "the wheels moved really well." The material was more prone to scratching than some others we evaluated, but the suitcase proved to be durable overall in our drop tests, resisting major damage.

Listed dimensions: 21.25" x 15.25" x 10" | Weight: 6.5 lbs | Material: Hardside polypropylene | Expandable: Yes | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

samsonite suitcases in a hallway

With more than 34,000 five-star ratings, t his best-selling suitcase from Amazon Basics is loved by both real users and our consumer testers who say it's worth every penny. Made of lightweight ABS plastic, the hardside suitcase isn't quite as durable as those made of polycarbonate, but the material helps to keep the cost low — under $100 — so I recommend it for someone shopping on a budget.

During our Textiles Lab evaluations for durability, there were some noticeable markings in our scratch tests, but we were impressed by how well the bag maintained its shape after being released repeatedly from our drop tester. Amazon reviewers who regularly use the suitcases say they hold up over time, as well.

When our consumer testers rolled the suitcase through our obstacle course, they were wowed by how smooth the wheels were, with one describing the bag as "very easy to move." We gave the carry-on high scores for packability, as we were able to pack our standard load of belongings (clothing, accessories and toiletries) for a short trip inside with room to spare. Plus, there are interior zippered mesh pockets for easy organization, and the bag expands up to one extra inch for additional packing space.

Listed dimensions: 22" x 14.9" x 10" | Weight: 7.3 lbs | Material: Hardside ABS plastic | Expandable: Yes | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

a suitcase from amazon basics closed and open in a hallway

One of the most popular suitcases on the market, Away's standard carry-on is definitely worth the hype . The bag is available in 11 colors, including on-trend options like green and red, along with neutral hues like gray and black.

Not only is the suitcase simple and stylish from the outside, it's also full of functional features inside to make packing for your next international trip a breeze. The bag unfolds into two separate primary compartments to fit all of your things: one fully zippered side and one with adjustable compression straps, and there are mesh pockets to stash smaller items.

Consumer testers and GH analysts alike love to travel with the Away carry-on, including one who shared, "It fit all of the clothes I needed for a long weekend. It rolled really easily and was light enough to pop in and out of the overhead bin." Testers said the telescopic handle felt flimsier than others they tried, but they were impressed with the bag overall, saying that it was easy to maneuver and roll over different types of flooring, including wood, carpet and tile. And it looked great after our drop and scratch tests, showing no major signs of damage or dents.

Listed dimensions: 9" x 13.7" x 21.7" | Weight: 8.1 lbs | Material: Hardside polycarbonate | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 100 days, unused

Briggs & Riley 31-inch Baseline Extra Large Expandable Spinner

The innovative design details of this softside checked bag from Briggs & Riley help to simplify packing for extended trips abroad. The bag features a unique push-button expansion system unlike any other we've evaluated , which allows you to easily expand the bag, fill it with everything you'll need and then compress it back down to its standard size.

One tester who was impressed with the amount of space in the carry-on version of the bag shared, "It fit clothing and accessories for two people for a seven-day summer vacation." And this checked bag offers more than double the packing capacity. Other innovative features include a built-in trifold garment folder for formal attire and reinforced corners for added protection.

At 15.6 pounds, the suitcase does weigh more than other models we've evaluated, but it is made with a nylon material that resisted wear and tear when I tested it in our abrasion machine. It also earned top marks in our latest round of drop testing. Along with performing well for durability, the suitcase received high scores for maneuverability, with smooth wheels and a sturdy telescopic handle.

Listed dimensions: 31" x 22" x 13.8" | Weight: 15.6 lbs | Material: Softside nylon | Expandable: Yes | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

a briggs and riley suitcase opened and closed in a hallway

Rolling a bag through the airport has never been easier than it is with July's classic luggage , including this spacious checked suitcase and its popular carry-on bags . One GH analyst who took the checked bag on a vacation abroad said, "I've never used a suitcase with wheels this smooth." I've personally traveled with luggage from the brand and was blown away by how effortless it was to roll the suitcases, even over carpet and concrete sidewalks.

The telescopic handle technically locks at 20 different heights to prevent it from falling down on its own, and most testers appreciated the slanted grip on the handle, sharing that it was comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver with.

Made with a polycarbonate shell, the suitcase is lightweight and durable, and the corners are reinforced with aluminum bumpers for an added level of protection. The bag held up well after being released repeatedly from our drop tester, but testers noted marks and scuffs on the surface after taking the bag on just one trip.

It boasts 80 liters of packing space and features one fully zippered compartment and one open compartment with a compression panel and Y-strap for security. Even more, it weighs just 8.3 pounds, which is similar to many of the carry-on sized bags we evaluate.

Listed dimensions: 26" x 18.75" x 11" | Weight: 8.3 lbs | Material: Hardside polycarbonate with aluminum corners | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 100 days, unused

a july suitcase opened and closed against carpeting

Travelpro luggage was created by a pilot who wanted to make bags specifically for other pilots and airline crewmembers who were always on the go. The result is a collection of highly durable, quality suitcases including the popular Platinum Elite medium checked suitcase.

Built to last, the luggage is made of heavyweight nylon material that performed well when I tested it for abrasion resistance. When I released the bag repeatedly from our drop tester, it showed no signs of damage or dents. Our testers also gave the suitcase high scores for ease of use and appreciated the sturdy feel of the telescopic handle. The suitcase does have a more traditional look, though, which some testers described as "old-fashioned," sharing that they wished it were sleeker.

Full of thoughtful and functional features, the suitcase makes packing and traveling a breeze. The bag can be unzipped to reveal one large packing compartment with compression panels that secure your belongings in place, a removable wet bag for toiletries, a large mesh zippered pocket in the lid for breathable storage and a built-in suiter to help keep more formal clothes in tip-top shape. To prevent the suitcase from tipping over when it's full, it's also designed with a unique tapered expansion system, so the bag is narrower at the top and broader at the bottom.

Listed dimensions: 25" x 18" x 11.25" | Weight: 9.8 lbs | Material: Softside nylon | Expandable: Yes | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

two travelpro suitcases open and closed

While some softside luggage is bulky and pricey, this Helium DLX carry-on from Delsey is lightweight, as the name implies, and it's available for a great value. The polyester material isn't quite as durable or substantial as nylon styles we've tested, but the brand's polyester fabric has performed well overall in our abrasion tests without major wear.

Two external zippered pockets allow for easy access to travel essentials like your phone and ID, so you won't have to hold up the TSA line while scouring through your bag. While the bag unzips to expose only one main compartment for packing, it's equipped with a removable bi-fold organizer and expands by two inches for additional room. One tester said, "I love the pockets." Plus, the inner lining can be fully unzipped and removed for easy cleaning.

I personally carry luggage from Delsey and love the smooth wheels and sturdy telescopic handle, and our testers who tried Delsey's luggage found the handle to be comfortable to grip and use. However, they said the bags were more difficult to maneuver through our obstacle course than others they tested.

Listed dimensions: 12" x 17.75" x 28" | Weight: 8.4 lbs | Material: Softside polyester | Expandable: Yes | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

a delsey suitcase open and closed in a hallway

A rolling duffel like this one from L.L.Bean is ideal for longer adventures abroad or for overpackers like me. The duffel isn't as structured as standard suitcases, meaning you can compress it and slide it under your bed or in a closet if you're pressed for storage space — and on the other hand, you can really fill it to the brim when you're packing. Just be careful that you're not stuffing it too much because it can be easy to exceed an airline's weight restrictions.

One GH analyst who loves to travel with this bag said that it's one of her go-to picks for family vacations. With just two wheels, our analyst said it's a little more cumbersome to maneuver than a spinner suitcase, but you also have the option to carry the bag with the padded strap.

The bag has a wide opening for easy access to everything you need inside, and outer compression straps keep everything in place. Made of durable polyester material with a reinforced base, the duffel lasts for years and years without signs of wear, according to our analyst. Plus, it's water-resistant inside and out — perfect for inevitable leaks or wet weather. If you're looking for something smaller, the brand carries a variety of sizes to meet your travel needs.

Listed dimensions: 14" x 17.25" x 32.5" | Weight: 8.8 lbs | Material: Softside polyester | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 1 year

When we evaluated this bag in the Textiles Lab, we were amazed by just how much we could fit inside during our packing tests. Not only did it beat out other travel backpacks we tested, it also outperformed some of our carry-ons because of its spacious interior .

The backpack has a suitcase-style opening and fully unzips to expose a highly organized interior jam-packed with zippered mesh pockets for all of your belongings. It also features a padded laptop sleeve that fits up to a 17-inch computer.

Made of recycled nylon and polyester, the bag is durable and water-resistant. When I tested it for abrasion resistance in the Lab, there were no visible signs of wear. Details like a sternum strap, waist belt and padded mesh provide comfort and support. With backpack straps that tuck neatly inside the back of the bag and carrying straps on all sides, you can easily grab it to lift into an overhead bin.

Some online reviewers wished it was equipped with a water bottle holder and said the zippers can be finicky, but we didn't have issues with them in the Lab.

Listed dimensions: 22" x 12" x 10" | Weight: 3.5 lbs | Material: Softside polyester and nylon | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

a backpack from cotopaxi unzipped and opened

Able to hold everything you need for a weekend getaway, this weekender from Calpak was the top performer in our Textiles Lab tests. Not only is the bag totally on-trend, thanks to the puffy padded design and fashionable color options, it's also full of functional features . One tester who used it as her personal item on a long trip said, "This bag fits everything I need and more!"

A GH analyst who used the bag added, "I appreciate the well-organized interior," which includes several zippered pockets and elastic storage. Outside, there's a separate shoe compartment, additional zippered pockets and a water bottle holder. Altogether, there are nine pockets, and the spacious bag aced our packing tests.

If you're pairing it with Calpak's popular luggage , this bag has a trolley sleeve that slides right over the telescopic handle of your suitcase. One tester noted that the stitching that secured the sleeve in place started unraveling a bit after just one use. The bag is made of a smooth polyester material that's comfortable to carry and water-resistant. A tester said, "It poured while I was traveling and everything inside this bag stayed perfectly dry."

Listed dimensions: 12" x 16" x 7" | Weight: 2 lbs | Material: Softside polyester | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler 40L Duffel Bag

Cargo Hauler 40L Duffel Bag

This convertible duffel from Eagle Creek is the perfect adventure travel companion. The bag is durable, combining polyester and nylon for a water-resistant material that also held up well when tested for abrasion resistance . One GH analyst who travels with this duffel said that it still looks great after years of regular rough and tough use.

It's structured and maintains its shape for easy packing, but the duffel can be compressed to bring inside of your suitcase as an extra bag or for compact storage at home. According to our testers and GH analyst, the zippers have large pull tabs that are easy to use, and, according to the brand, they're covered in water-resistant strips for the ultimate protection in wet weather.

The duffel features a reinforced top handle and grab handles along the sides for carrying, and there are adjustable backpack straps for hands-free use that can be connected for an additional carrying strap or tucked inside the bag. Some online reviewers said the backpack straps are on the thinner side and weren't as comfortable as other traditional travel backpacks, but they appreciated the convenient option.

Listed dimensions: 11.5" x 23.25" x 11" | Weight: 2.5 lbs | Material: Softside polyester and nylon | Expandable: No | Returns: Within 30 days, unused

'A Gentleman in Moscow' Review — Ewan McGregor Effortlessly Charms From a Gilded Cage

  • Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead's chemistry shines in A Gentleman in Moscow as Alexander navigates relationships in his gilded cage.
  • The storytelling cleverly deploys nonlinear narrative and amusing dialogue to engage the viewer.
  • A slow start evolves into a compelling historical epic within the Metropol's walls.

Based on Amor Towles ’ critically acclaimed novel by the same name, A Gentleman in Moscow is Showtime’s next great historical drama. While the mention of “Moscow” in the title might make the mind’s eye wander down snowy streets in the shadow of Saint Basil's Cathedral, A Gentleman in Moscow is far removed from the sprawl of a struggling society and is instead a far more quaint tale , set within the confines of a grandiose hotel-turned-prison cell.

Like the gilt Fabergé egg that adorns the poster for the series, Count Alexander Rostov’s ( Ewan McGregor ) existence is a reminder of the opulence of bygone days—an ostentatious relic. He serves no real purpose in the grand scheme of things, except to be watched within his gilded cage, and kept account of by authorities, much like the dwindling few eggs that sit in collections around the world. And much like the Fabergé egg, Alexander’s life is inextricably linked to the tragic downfall of the Romanov family and the Bolshevik revolution of 1917 that followed.

The series starts swiftly, with the Bolshevik tribunal sentencing the Count to a lifetime of confinement within the walls of the Metropol Hotel. He is spared a far worse sentencing ( death ) due to the poem that he allegedly penned, which critiqued the upper class and questioned the purpose of the royal family. These are, of course, ideals that the Bolsheviks agree with, even if they are being echoed by a Count who benefited from the institutions he criticized. As with Towles’ novel, much of the Count’s life before the revolution is shown through fragmented flashbacks dotted throughout the series, as well as through illuminating conversations with his compatriots — or, rather, comrades, Mishka ( Fehinti Balogun ) and Prince Nikolai Petrov ( Paul Ready ).

A Gentleman in Moscow

A Russian aristocrat is spared from death and placed on house arrest while the Bolshevik Revolution plays out before him.

Release Date March 29, 2024

‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ Breathes New Life Into Its Characters

With Ben Vanstone as the guiding hand for the series, A Gentleman in Moscow was smartly adapted from page to screen. Rather than embracing the novel's insular storytelling, with the Count as the sole protagonist, Vanstone has widened the narrative to bring more life to the surrounding characters — particularly the women who come in and out of his life, and the gilded doors of the Metropol. It would have been very easy to frame Anna Urbanova ( Mary Elizabeth Winstead ) as little more than the Count’s on-again-off-again girlfriend. Her life outside of Alexander doesn’t matter on the page; she only exists when she is with him or on his mind. Perhaps with a different creative team, that would have been exactly how she was portrayed, but Vanstone veered far away from playing straight into that trope. Instead, Anna’s life outside of Alexander is given depth . Her career as an actress is a vital subplot that weaves through each episode, headed towards a larger plot point. While she and the Count do fall into bed on numerous occasions, it’s always handled tastefully and shown as a relationship that she holds the reins to. Courting a criminal comes at great personal risk to her budding career, which makes the shifted narrative all the more vital.

A Gentleman in Moscow marks the third time that McGregor and Winstead have shared the screen following their performances in Fargo and Birds of Prey , and their real-life chemistry beautifully carries through into the relationship between Alexander and Anna. They play off each other naturally, and their performances are just as electric, regardless of whether Anna is keeping his delusions of grandeur in check or he’s sprawled out naked on the ground with nothing more than a towel to hide the… Fabergé eggs. McGregor and Winstead's dynamic is half the fun of A Gentleman in Moscow . It’s refreshing to have even more historical romances to talk about around the watercooler — and audiences will be raving about this series given its weekly release schedule.

While Alexander’s relationship with Anna is at the heart of A Gentleman in Moscow , the soul of the series is his unlikely friendships with two little girls who call the Metropol home during different periods of his imprisonment. First is Nina Kulikova ( Alexa Goodall ), a curly-haired spitfire who has everyone in the hotel wrapped around her finger. It’s through Nina that Alexander starts to make genuine connections with the host of characters around him, which changes him for the better. Years after Nina has been set free from Alexander’s gilded cage, a second young girl comes into Alexander’s life: Sofia ( Billie Gadsdon ). Through both girls, Alexander gets to experience what fatherhood might have looked like for him had he not been ensnared by the Bolsheviks.

Another notable and equally unlikely friendship that Alexander makes at the Metropol is the one that he forges with Osip Glebnikov ( Johnny Harris ), the man tasked with ensuring he never leaves the hotel. Glebnikov enlists Alexander in training him to be more of a gentleman. Given his upbringing, he was never afforded the same access to scholarly works or classic literature as Alexander, and this academic pursuit becomes their evening conversations over supper.

One such conversation centers on Victor Hugo ’s seminal work, Les Misérables , which is a cause of confusion for Glebnikov, who withers at the notion of Javert (spoilers for a 162-year-old book) committing suicide. While the conversation about Les Misérables may be brief, the comparison between the two works is undeniable. Alexander, much like Jean Valjean, is a prisoner of circumstances, though on wildly different sides of the scale. While Valjean escapes from his jailor, Javert, for large swaths of time, Alexander is always right where Glebnikov left him within the halls of the Metropol. The true comparison, however, arises when Alexander is tasked with the care of young Sofia by her mother, much in the same way Fantine entrusts Cosette’s future with Valjean. Further comparisons could be made with the setting of both tales, as they are both set against uprisings, revolutions, class disparity, and the sort of socialist discourse that would make Karl Marx sit up in his grave. And, much like the stage musical, A Gentleman in Moscow is all about the turning of the years.

‘A Gentleman in Moscow’ Starts Slow, But Builds to a Pulse-Pounding Conclusion

Spread out across eight episodes, A Gentleman in Moscow spans approximately forty years of Alexander’s life in captivity. With each new episode, a running total of how many days he has spent in his lavish prison is tallied up. Occasionally, the episodes will work backward from each shocking total, which cleverly hooks the audience right from the onset of the episode. Except for his visible aging and waning agility, the Count remains largely stagnant as the world changes around him. He has very little control over his circumstances, which means a lot happens to him, not with him. People come and go around him, relationships are formed, babies are born, those babies grow up and go to war, people die, and Russia evolves—for better and for worse.

The first handful of episodes start slowly, particularly where Alexander’s passivity is concerned, but as he begins to come to terms with his situation and connect with the vibrant world around him, however small it may be, the pace finally picks up. Without revealing too many details about the final episodes of the series, one might be able to imagine what sort of turmoil might visit his gilded cage once Stalin’s regime falls and America starts poking around the ruins of the government. The passage of time is cleverly shown through more than just a running total and graying hair. While Alexander’s wardrobe rarely receives an upgrade, the people around him represent the ever-evolving world beyond the Metropol. Anna is the best bellwether for societal changes as her appearance transforms from a picture-perfect blonde bombshell with rising hemlines to her natural brunette curls and sophisticated elegance. As time continues to pass, she even dons cozy sweaters that mirror Alexander’s own comfortable existence.

While it is unlikely that A Gentleman in Moscow intended for Ewan McGregor to look like a dark academia fever dream, every bit of the Count’s character design screams the aesthetic. From the unkempt coif of permed curls to his longjohns-clad calisthenics in a dusty attic, Alexander looks more like an eccentric history professor than a count whose wings have been clipped. McGregor brings a charming congenitally to the role that makes the Count ever so beguiling , particularly when he gets to act opposite the younger members of the cast. When he’s not going toe-to-toe with Winstead, he’s at his best keeping up with the spry wit of Goodall and Gadsdon's characters.

A Gentleman in Moscow lives up to the expectations set by Towles’ novel and delivers a sprawling historical epic contained within the walls of a single location. The Count’s world might be as small as the Metropol, but he lives vicariously through the relationships he makes — and, by extension, so do we. With mystery, danger, and intrigue threaded throughout, A Gentleman in Moscow has the potential to dominate cultural conversation in the same way that Shōgun and The Gilded Age have nourished audiences who are starved for well-told, compelling tales.

A Gentleman in Moscow lives up to the original novel it adapts, delivering a sprawling historical epic confined to a single location.

  • Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead electrify the screen with their chemistry and natural ease together.
  • The writing is clever, both with its amusing dialogue and the way it deploys nonlinear storytelling to keep audiences engaged.
  • The set and costume design are sumptuous and visually appealing.
  • The first handful of episodes are quite slow, but the series does eventually pick up as the story unfolds.

A Gentleman in Moscow premieres March 29 on streaming and on-demand on Paramount+ with Showtime before its on-air debut on March 31.
