Fastest Way to Kick Out Villagers

How to make villagers leave without time travel, how to replace a villager using the campsite, tips and tricks when getting villagers to move out, how to get a villager to think about moving out, related guides, how to kick out villagers with time travel.

You don't necessarily need to skip to 1 PM, but we recommend it as it's the time most villagers are outside.

Keep in mind that this method may take anywhere from minutes to hours, as the villager who gets the thought bubble will be random.

• Time Traveling Guide

Step 6 can be any time

The point of step 6 is to reset the game and get to the broadcast as fast as possible.

Talk to Villagers to Moving Out

This method takes longer than the method above, as you do not need to time-travel.

Keep in mind that the thought bubble state lasts 3 to 5 days.

1. Find the villager who is thinking about moving

Sometimes, you can find random villagers wandering around outside deep in thought, with a thought bubble above their head.

If you ignore it and continue to check the following days, there's a chance the thought bubble will transfer to another random villager.

If you want to kick out a specific villager, wait until they have the thought bubble. Anyone can think about moving out, regardless of your friendship level .

2. Talk to the villager with the thought bubble

If the villager you want to leave appears with a thought bubble, talk to them to check if they want to move out.

If they do, choose the option that doesn't stop them and encourages them to move out!

Note that the thought bubble doesn't always mean that a villager wants to move out. It can also be other things, like wanting to give you a gift!

3. The villager will prepare to leave

The next day Isabelle will mention that the villager will move out in her broadcast. The villager will have boxes inside their home, and this is the last chance to speak with the villager.

At this time, other players can invite that villager to their island, given that they have a vacant plot on their island.

The day after that, the villager will have moved out, and the house plot will be on sale.

The following methods are used to swap with a villager if you already have a maximum of 10 villagers.

Take note that these methods will only replace a villager , and will not let you have a vacant house plot.

Replace a Villager with a Camper

This method doesn't require time-travelling, but you can do so to skip ahead to when you have a visitor in the campsite. Otherwise, you just have to wait for it to happen randomly!

Replace a Villager Using amiibo

This method requires you to use an amiibo . Unlike with the method above, you can choose the villager to kick out.

Villagers Thinking Can Only Happen Outside

Thought bubbles only occur to villagers if they are outside. It does not happen when they are inside their homes.

We recommend looking for villagers around the time when they are all outside, which is around noon.

Villagers Will Not Move Out Without Permission

Unlike previous Animal Crossing games, villagers will not move out on their own.

They will always consult the player, giving you the choice to have the final decision if they will move out or not.

Even if your favorite villager wants to move out, just tell them not to go when they ask you!

A Villager is Randomly Chosen Over Time

You can easily find a villager with a thought bubble above their head when you time travel.

Our walkthrough team confirmed through time travel that thought bubbles will appear again after two weeks. The explanation is listed below.

Make Villagers Move Out With Time Travel

You can use Time Travel to make the move out condition appear more easily.

It's possible to keep changing the dates to give a different villager the condition instead, so you can keep changing the dates until the villager you want to move out gets it.

The condition moves on randomly, however, so you might have to try several times before you get the villager you want.

Bullying Villagers Can Possibly Decrease Friendship

However, it seems that doing these things will have no effect on a villager wanting to move out. It will just make them angry for a while!

It's also very likely that their friendship does decrease but, again, it won't have any effect on them moving out!

Can You Evict Villagers through Isabelle?

Complaining Does Not Make Villagers Move Out

It seems that discussing a resident with Isabelle only resets the character, removing custom design clothes, removing user-inputted nicknames, and catchphrases (greetings).

This does not make them move out.

One of the most frustrating things about Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that it's difficult to control which animals are residents on your island. When you reach the maximum of ten villagers, there are only two ways to kick an animal that you don't like off your island paradise: the animal asking you to move away (a randomly selected, difficult-to-control process) or by asking a visitor to your campsite if they want to move to the island.

Since the first method isn't very reliable, this guide provides all the knowledge you'll need to replace old villagers with new ones by taking advantage of the campsite mechanic. No need to reset your whole island and start over .

Updated on May 9, 2023: Whether you want to move out a specific villager because they just aren't one of your favorites or you want to freshen up your island's roster, moving out a villager can be difficult in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. We've updated this guide for readability so you can easily use the campsite to get the villagers you want.

Willingness To Time Travel

You need to be ready and willing to time travel forward (possibly quite a long way in the future) in order to refill the campsite with new animals.

By extension, this also means that your island will be full of weeds, flowers, fresh mail, new posts on your bulletin board, and more — there will be some clean-up to do afterward.

If you have other players on the same island with you, it's a good idea to double-check with them and get their go-ahead .

Some Time To Spare

This process takes a chunk of time out of your day. Make sure you do it when you know you have time to sit down with the game for a while.

If you're a solo player, you can always return to the process later if you need to stop. But, if another person lives on your island , they may not be happy to pick up their Switch only to discover that it's actually December, instead of August.

Optional: No Villagers Of Your Desired Type

There are eight villager types in Animal Crossing: New Horizons — Peppy, Normal, Uchi (Big Sister), Snooty, Lazy, Cranky, Smug, and Jock.

If your current villagers are made up of every type but one, your campsite will get a villager of that missing type 60 percent of the time.

With this in mind, it's a lot easier to aim for a personality type in particular .

If you're hunting for a particular villager type, Smug, for example, and already have one Smug villager on your island, it may be worth following this process an extra time simply to move the existing Smug villager off your island.

This process involves checking each day to see whether a villager has arrived at your campsite . You can also speed up the process by checking two days at once.

The events of the day don't reset at midnight — the game actually resets at 5 am.

If you're logged on at 4:59 am, you'll hear the bell chime, and then you'll be booted into Isabelle's morning announcements while the game loads the events of the next day.

To change the time in your game, you will need to head to your Switch's System settings. Under Date and Time, turn off Synchronize Clock via Internet .

Below this, select Date and Time to input the desired time .

You are able to check two days at once by setting your Switch's time to 4:57 am.

Let's say it's May 1, and you know there is no camper on the island today. You would save your game, log out, and then change the time to 4:57 am on May 3 . This will allow you to check May 2 and May 3 without having to reset the clock twice.

We suggest 4:57 am because 3 minutes is a reasonable amount of time for you to log in, listen to Isabelle's announcements, and then have a quick pause before the reset occurs. If you'd like to do it closer or further away from 5am, feel free.

When you've changed your clock and logged in, you'll hear Isabelle do her announcements. She'll say the current date, but is actually announcing events from the day before (i.e. she'll say it's May 3 at 4:57, but her subsequent announcements will pertain to May 2).

Assuming she doesn't tell you that a camper is on the island, you'll then log into the game and wait until 5am.

The bells of Resident Services will chime, and Isabelle will make another announcement.

There are three possible conclusions:

• Isabelle doesn't announce that a camper is on the island. You can save and quit the game. Continue to step four.
• Isabelle tells you there is a camper on the island when you first log in, not after you've waited till 5am for the second batch of announcements. In this case, be sure to exit immediately, shut down the game, and set your clock back a few hours . This ensures you won't lose the camper when the game resets. Continue to step three.
• Isabelle tells you there is a camper on the island during the second set of announcements. You're safe to go meet this new animal: continue to step four.

Next, you get to go meet your camper. If it's someone you don't want on your island, leave and continue to step five .

If it's someone you do want on your island, congratulations. You'll be able to invite them to live on the island after speaking to them enough.

Once you've invited them, they may accept automatically, decline automatically, or say that they want to leave it up to chance and challenge you to a card game .

If you're declined a few times (or lose a couple of rounds of cards), don't fret. You can keep doing this as many times as you need to until they accept your offer.

Once they finally accept your offer, they'll zip off to Resident Services to ask about moving to the island. When they return, if your island already has ten villagers, they'll say that the only way they could move here with you is if someone is willing to trade.

You'll need to approve of them trading with someone, then they'll say the name of one of your villagers and ask if it's okay for them to trade places with that villager. If they say the name of a villager you want to leave the island, then you're set!

However, if they say the name of a villager you want to keep, there's no need to sacrifice a villager you like for the camper.

As soon as the camper names a villager you don't want to lose, exit to the Switch home screen and close the game immediately .

If you finish the conversation and leave the tent, the game saves which villager the camper named and will never select another .

If the game doesn't get a chance to save, it will simply select another resident of your island at random to swap with next time .

Reload the game and invite the camper again. Continue this process until they select the villager you want to leave .

If you didn't get a camper at all, you can time travel forward two days , set the clock to 4:57am again, and repeat the process.

For example, if last time you had set the clock to May 3, 4:57am, this time you would set the clock to May 5, 4:57am in order to check for a camper on May 4 and 5.

If you did get a camper on the island, you won't get another one for at least a few days. It is variable, but we recommend that you assume there won't be any campers for four days after you got one.

• If you got a camper on May 3 before 5am, it's actually a camper from May 2 . You would assume that there wouldn't be a camper on May 3, 4, 5, or 6. Therefore, you would skip to May 8 at 4:57am (which allows you to check the 7 and the 8) to continue your villager hunt.
• If you got a camper on May 3 after 5am, the camper arrived on May 3 . You can assume that there will not be a camper on May 4, 5, 6, or 7. You'd set the clock to May 9 at 4:57am (in order to check for a camper on the 8 and the 9) and carry on hunting.

How to Kick Out Villagers in ACNH

There are a few different methods to kicking out villagers in ACNH. For the most part, these involve quite a bit of waiting—which can be circumvented via time travel, of course. Below, we've broken down each method into its own subheading.

What Doesn't Affect Villagers Moving Out in ACNH?

According to player reports, the typical methods of bullying villagers by pushing them around, hitting them with nets, and tricking them into pitfalls doesn't encourage them to move out on its own. It may make them angry for a few moments, but ACNH is different from others in the franchise in that it doesn't outright begrudge players for "acting out."

These acts will decrease friendship, however, which may have an effect on how willing villagers are to part with the island in the first place.

Reporting villagers to Isabelle won't affect their willingness to leave the island either as this feature is primarily to help keep the island clean and free from unwanted bugs, interactions, catchphrases, and the like.

Moving Villagers Out the Old-Fashioned Way

It should be noted that the sign for villagers looking to move out is the appearance of a thought bubble above their heads. Players should be checking for this throughout the process.

Villagers will move out on their own free will if given enough time. Previously, it has been suggested that isolating that villager will encourage them to move out quicker as it keeps their bond with the player low. For this reason, time travel is also a reasonable option.

The cycle for villagers wishing to move out spans about two weeks with a new villager being potentially on the chopping block at the end of each cycle. This means that players have a chance to move out a villager every two weeks—or, if they time travel, they only need to fast forward 15 days.

The villager to move out is randomly selected at the start of Day 15 while the game is initializing Isabelle's 5 a.m. morning broadcast. If the right villager has the bubble over their head, speak to them and encourage them—or, rather, do not dissuade them—to leave the island. If they don't have a bubble, either wait another few weeks or move the clock back to the minutes before Isabelle's broadcast and check again.

Doing this will leave a vacant plot behind.

Using a Camper to Move Villagers Out

Players will need their campsite built and, potentially, their desired villager as an amiibo. If in possession of the latter, it can be used to invite that villager to the campsite via the Nook Terminal in the Resident Services building.

Once there's a villager at the campsite, players will need to talk to that camper for three days and potentially win a game with them to convince them to move in. The camper will choose an existing villager to replace at random—which they will tell the player. If they pick the "wrong" villager, players can reset the game and restart the conversation until they pick the "right" one.

This will not vacate the property, of course. It simply replaces one villager with another one.

Luckily, there are a few tips and tricks that can help make the process a little easier.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons made it easier than ever before to move new villagers onto the island, a feature that's resulted in the game's relatively notorious online villager black market . Players can use Nook Mile tickets to travel to various mystery islands, where they can encounter different villagers from across the series and ask them to move in. Villagers may also move in from the islands of other online players, or can appear at the player's campsite about once a week. While some of these methods require players to have an empty lot in advance, others allow them to replace a current resident entirely.

Island personalization is also a large factor in New Horizons , thanks to the addition of customizable DIY recipes and extensive island terraforming options . Many players take the design portions of New Horizons very seriously, placing a significant amount of emphasis on collecting villagers that fit their island's theme or even just those that are more highly sought after by other players. Given that there are hundreds of Animal Crossing villagers to choose from, though, the process can be difficult - especially if unwanted characters seem to simply refuse to move out and make room.

ACNH: Time Travel And Other Tips To Make Animal Crossing Villagers Move Out

Primarily, there are two methods when it comes to making  Animal Crossing villagers leave , the first of which involves time travel - setting the Nintendo Switch's clock either ahead or behind, usually days at a time, in order to make the game progress differently. Villagers in New Horizons tend to ask to move out about once every two weeks, meaning that repeatedly moving the clock two weeks ahead at a time will eventually let players move out the villager they like the least. Alternatively, players could time travel until their desired villager is staying at the campsite. From there, they simply need to save and then convince the incoming villager to move out their unwanted neighbor. As characters select a random villager each time, however, it may take several attempts to force the correct one out.

For those players unwilling to deal with the side effects of time traveling in Animal Crossing , the second method comes in the form of just ignoring undesired villagers. Some players tend to build fences or even cliffs in order to avoid accidentally interacting with certain neighbors. It's been speculated that villagers who are ignored are more likely to ask to move out than villagers who have a close friendship with the player. It's possible that more methods will be discovered in the future, but for now these remain the most popular option among Animal Crossing: New Horizons players looking to move their favorite characters onto the island.

Let's face it, some of the villagers in the Animal Crossing series are just the worst. It's all subjective really, but certain characters rub players the wrong way. Maybe it's their catchphrases, maybe it's their taste in furniture, or maybe players just plain don't like them.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest way to interact with the favorite and least favorite Animal Crossing  villagers. Players don't have a lot of control over who moves to their island, but they do have control over who gets kicked off. If there is a villager or two that needs to take a hike, here's how to boot them off the island for good.

How to Kick Out Villagers

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons , there are two ways to get a villager to pack their things and leave. Both involve a bit of time and effort on the player's part, but both are equally efficient.

The first thing players can do is treat the villager like garbage. Ignore them at all costs. Don't talk to them even when they try to chase you down. A couple of wacks to their head with a bug net will also reinforce the point. Eventually, they will feel lonely and out of place. With enough neglect, the villager in question will soon have a cloud above their head. Now is the time to finally jump into a conversation with them, where they will bring up their thoughts of leaving the island. Tell them that's a great idea and they will finally take the hint and leave.

If players have upgraded Residential Services, which will allow them to do things like build bridges , they can go speak with the manager about the villager they don't like. By talking to Isabelle, players can discuss any current resident. Complain about them enough and they will decide to leave the island.

The latest Animal Crossing takes customization to a whole new level. If the villagers aren't the problem, but the island itself is, players will want to learn how to unlock terraforming . This allows players to do some incredible things, such as altering paths, cliffs, and water features. Those who aren't content with the layout of their island can change it to look however they'd like. Unlocking will take some time (unless players do a little time traveling), but it is absolutely worth it.

Players don't have to literally move the earth to make a difference on their islands, they can use the many craftable tools at their disposal to do that. The durability of these tools, however, can be an issue. It is in a player's best interest to start working toward unlocking golden tools . Unfortunately, these too will break after some time, but they can be used a lot longer than regular tools.

Lastly, another major way players can change things up on their island is to pay for construction and demolition through Residential Services or buy some new furniture to spruce up the place. This all takes bells, though, so players will need a good source of income. There are a lot of ways to make money, some more creative than others. For example, players can play the Stalk Market or create a Tarantula Island where they can farm the critters for tons of bells.

the title basically says it all, but there are 2 reasons why i'm asking this question: 1. i have 2 villagers i absolutely hate that i want out asap, but ignoring them doesn't seem to be working. 2. i see people cycling villagers all the time, and i'm curious as to how they get villagers in and out so quickly. also, by "relatively fast", i mean 2-3 weeks most. let me know! <3

Well, the quickest way is definitely Amiibos. Invite a villager 3 times and do the craft task for them each time and then you can move them in while selecting who to move out. You can only do this once a day, so you can kick them out on the third day. I don't think there is any other way without time traveling other than hoping the villager you want out asks to move.

Use an amiibo card for 3 days and on the 3rd day you can kick out the unwanted villager.

If you become close friends with them, and talk to them lots, but not to annoy them. they will be more likily to leave if they know you, and have gotten the most of your island So gift them, pay attention to them. They will eventually, and be quicker to leave. Ignoring them will just get them to stay longer, because they don't know you, and have not gotten the most of your island I had Merry on my side island, and after five real life days, she wanted to move on after only being there for a short time span. Being nice is the way to go. Villagers you have had for longer want to leave because they've been there long enough to have a good stay, and a good time. So they want to see new places. If you get the villagers you dislike to that level, they will want to move on.  

Without time travel, it's super hard. If the ignoring method has not worked, I would second the friendship method. That is, ignoring all other villagers and really concentrating on that one villager you don't like. It's as if a villager completes his or her purpose once they've reached a super high level of friendship and then they want to leave. It's worked in other prior AC games for me too.  

Amiibo’s are the most efficient method for me. I never use any other method.  

Amiibos are more faster or maybe ignoring them, I managed to kick out my voided Diva by amiibo. Sometimes its rng when a villager asks to move

One thing to keep in mind. The last villager to move in will never ask to leave. So if your last move in was one of the ones you want to leave that means you will have to get the other one to leave first or use amiibo. I am not sure if a camper can ask to replace the last move in so dk If you could get them out that way.
