The Kooks have announced that they’ll be heading to the United States for a 16-stop 2024 tour with The Vaccines.
Kicking off on February 29 with a performance in Atlanta, the tour will bring the two beloved British bands to cities like Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more, with The Kooks confirming that they’ll play their debut album, Inside In/Inside Out , in its entirety at each stop in celebration of its 15th anniversary. Watch a video of the band’s Luke Pritchard announcing the tour here .
Inside In/Inside Out is, without a doubt, the best set of anthems for anyone experiencing growing pains. Centered around the complex emotions almost every teenager encounters, The Kooks’ debut album was bound to be a hit. Back when it was first released, a Pitchfork review described the album as “youthful overconfidence” and lacking a sense of direction. This exact sentiment is why the album remains so compelling today.

‘left of center’: suzanne vega’s ‘pretty in pink’ hit.
The Kooks released Inside In/Inside Out in January 2006. It was an immediate hit, landing the No.2 spot in the UK Albums Chart for two weeks. The band itself had only formed a year prior to the recording of the album. (Their name came from the group’s mutual admiration for Hunky Dory -era Bowie.) In 2005, they recorded their first demo, focused on landing gigs. But after being scouted at the Brighton Free Butt Festival, they quickly signed to Virgin and recorded their debut album.

The Vaccines Yearn For Belonging In 'Sometimes, I Swear' & Announce US Tour With The Kooks
Their new album will be released on January 12.
The Vaccines share “Sometimes, I Swear,” the latest single from their forthcoming album Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations, which releases January 12 via Thirty Tigers.
The album’s opening track sets the tone with a gnawing sense of displacement played out over insistent drums and euphoric guitars. The band also announces their return to the US for a coast to coast tour with The Kooks in spring 2024, including stops in Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and more.
Local pre-sale begins Thursday, October 12 at 10am local time, with general on-sale Friday, October 13 at 10am local time. See a full list of tour dates below.
“Like many songs before it, ‘Sometimes, I Swear’ began life as Tim and I sat on my sofa in London,” says lead singer Justin Young. “I don’t think there are many places on the planet where I feel so at peace as sitting in my own home, but even there I constantly question my place in the world. I think the innate human need to be part of something - to connect with each other in a community or a congregation - is what keeps driving us forward and searching for meaning. It’s something many of us struggle with on a daily basis, but I hope when people hear this song they’ll feel less alone in that struggle.”
“Sometimes, I Swear” follows the band’s recent single “Heartbreak Kid,” an instant Vaccines classic that Guitar World hailed as “everything you’d want from a Vaccines song: a catchy chorus, infectious melodies, and searing guitar licks that test the band’s indie rock resolve.”
Produced by Andrew Wells (Halsey, Phoebe Bridgers), Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations is the epitome of what The Vaccines do best: 60’s-inspired classicist guitar pop filtered through a new wave lens, with equal parts euphoria and melancholy.
The album drips with fun while also exploring the ways real life lets us down – the title comes from a misremembered lyric in Don McLean’s “American Pie,” evoking the death of innocence and the American Dream. Though Pick-Up Full of Pink Carnations is ultimately about reconciling with that loss, it’s also filled with gratitude for the people and places we once loved.
Torchbearers for British guitar music, The Vaccines have released five UK Top 5 albums, including their debut What Did You Expect from the Vaccines?, which is certified platinum and was the country’s best-selling debut album of 2011. The band has forged a fierce live reputation performing on main stages at Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Coachella, in addition to touring with The Rolling Stones, Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Muse.
They have received widespread critical acclaim, with NME calling them “A band still at their very best and still brimming with ideas, invention and – most importantly – a knack for writing great songs,” and Paste Magazine declaring “Rock bands just don’t come any more inspiring than this these days, and they just keep getting better and better.”

Golfer Grayson Murray's parents reveal his cause of death in emotional statement
The golf world received a stunning blow on Saturday with the death of rising PGA Tour star Grayson Murray at the age of 30.
On Sunday, May 26, his parents – Eric and Terry Murray – revealed their son's cause of death in an emotional statement released on social media.
"Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now," the statement shared by the PGA Tour read.
The family said they spent the last 24 hours "trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone." Having to come to terms with their loss and share it with the public, they said, "it's a nightmare."
The family said one thing is certain, Murray was loved by "all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you reading this."
Murray, a two-time winner on the PGA Tour who battled alcohol issues and depression, played the first round and part of the second round in this week's Charles Schwab Challenge, but withdrew from the event after 16 holes.
"We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones," PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said Saturday . "I reached out to Grayson's parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so."

Dutch Bird Flu Vaccines: A Boost for Poultry and Public Health
The dutch government confirms the effectiveness of bird flu vaccines for laying hens, with plans for large-scale poultry vaccination to curb the virus. lab tests and farm trials show promising results, raising hopes for animal and public health benefits, as well as economic stability amid rising egg prices..
Bird flu vaccines for laying hens are effective in practice, the Dutch government said on Tuesday, while confirming plans to vaccinate poultry against the virus that ravaged flocks around the world and is raising fears about human transmission. Highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, has killed or caused the culling of hundreds of millions of poultry globally in recent years, most of them laying hens, which sent egg prices rocketing.
Research in the laboratory of Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) early last year had already shown that two vaccines against bird flu, produced by France's Ceva Animal Health and Germany's Boehringer Ingelheim, were effective against the virus but there had been no experiment on a farm. "In September 2023, 1,800 day-old chicks were vaccinated against bird flu. The results show that the two tested vaccines are effective against infection with the virus eight weeks after vaccination," the Dutch agriculture ministry said in a statement.
"The fact that the vaccines work in practice is a very important step towards the large-scale vaccination of poultry against the bird flu virus," it said. Bird flu is raising mounting concerns as the disease is increasingly spreading to mammals, with the first-ever outbreaks detected in dairy cows in the United States raising concerns about it spreading to humans through the nation's milk supply.
The tests were carried out at two laying farms by Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Royal GD (Animal Health Service) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Utrecht University, the ministry said. More transmission trials will be conducted over the next year and a half to assess the vaccines' effectiveness during the entire laying period, the Dutch ministry said.
Australia last week reported its first case of avian influenza in a child who had become infected in India, while a different highly infectious strain was found on an egg farm. "The government intends to make large-scale vaccination possible responsibly, taking into account animal and public health, as well as animal welfare. Also to minimize any unfavorable effects of the vaccination on trade. That is why a step-by-step approach was chosen," it said.

Pga tour star grayson murray dead at 30, share this article.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Grayson Murray, a two-time PGA Tour winner who battled alcohol issues and depression, has died, according to PGA Tour officials. He was 30.
Murray played the first round and part of the second round in this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, but withdrew from the event after 16 holes on Friday, citing an illness.
No cause of death has been listed, but PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan issued a statement to staff and players stating that grief counselors would be on hand. The tournament will continue as scheduled.
Murray attended Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State University, and later won the 2017 Barbasol Championship and the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii.
“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning,” Monahan said in his note. “I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones. I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play. They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so.
“As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes. The PGA Tour has grief counselors available at both tournament sites, as well as virtually for those not in the field. I am en route to Ft. Worth and will share more information when we can.”
After capturing three straight IMG Junior World titles starting in 2006, he became the second youngest player to make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event when he did so at the age of 16. He also played in the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion as an amateur.
Murray showed great promise on the course, winning the 2017 Barbasol despite drinking during tournament week and admitting in January that he played three days hungover when he won.
“Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year,” he said. “I think the alcohol brought a side out of me that wasn’t me. It was kind of the monster in me in a way.”

But the early success proved to be short-lived. He struggled to make cuts and conceded he was jealous of the players he grew up competing against, who were having greater success. Along the way, he had a Twitter spat with a fellow player, suffered a scooter accident in 2022 in Bermuda , and threatened to quit on multiple occasions. Murray also dealt with anxiety and depression, and said there were days he didn’t want to get out of bed.
“I just thought I was a failure,” he said. “I thought I had a lot of talent that was just a waste of talent.”
It appeared his life turned around, however, as Murray had gotten sober in 2023.
“It was by choice,” he said after winning the Sony Open. “It was time.”
He regained exempt status on the PGA Tour after winning twice on the Korn Ferry Tour last year and set out to treat his return to the big leagues as a new beginning.
A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Murray said he was treating the 2024 season as if it was his rookie year all over again.
“I was young and thought I was invincible. Wasn’t doing the correct stuff off the course to really give myself the best chance to succeed out here,” he said. “My scooter accident in Bermuda was really a low point in my life. You know, I’ve obviously been vocal about the alcohol use in the past. I’m over eight months sober now. I have a beautiful fiancée that I love so much and who is so supportive of me, and my parents are so supportive of me.”
Murray made waves via social media in 2021 when he revealed his struggles with Tour life that he said had led him to become an alcoholic. Murray claimed he was on probation with the PGA Tour after he got drunk in a Hawaii hotel bar despite causing “no scene whatsoever.” He also expressed disappointment that the Tour didn’t help him deal with his alcohol problem.
“We are saddened and heartbroken to learn about the sudden passing of Grayson Murray,” Kevin Canning, Murray’s agent, said in a statement. “Grayson has been a longtime member of the GSE family and hearing the news this morning shocked all of us. We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details but our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time.”

Tricky Minaj, violent Corrie and pie in the sky promises from both sides
In today’s MetroTalk , one reader isn’t swayed by rapper Nicki Minaj’s plea to fans after she postponed her Manchester concert .
Meanwhile, are TV soaps getting too violent and making us turn off with their misery? And, one reader clears up confusion over what we can blame the Tories for, from Brexit to immigration to Eat Out to Help Out .
Plus, another reader explains why choosing to be vaccinated doesn’t compromise their veganism.

Someone tell Nicki marijuana isn't legal in the UK
Nicki Minaj was forced to postpone her Manchester gig after she was briefly detained in Amsterdam when drugs she says didn’t belong to her were found in her luggage.
The American rapper is what’s wrong with this world. I read her social media comments and it’s all about how people were trying to ‘stop’ her from getting to Manchester and complaining that cannabis is legal in The Netherlands.
Possessing small amounts may have been decriminalised there but you can’t bring it into a country where it’s illegal. How can you not understand that? Adam, London

Is violence in soaps getting a bit out of hand?
KL from Edinburgh asks whether EastEnders is the most depressing show on TV (May 17).
I stopped watching it four years ago because it became so grubby and depressing. I stopped watching Emmerdale six months ago because its characters are nothing like those in The Dales and I’ve been there 25 times.
We now have Corrie – with serial killers, a terrorist gang and major drug dealers, all on one cobbled street. I think it’s time to say goodbye to Weatherfield! Steve, Gateshead
The Tories made plenty of mistakes
Paul ( MetroTalk, Tue ) says Barry ‘idealises’ the time before the Tories took over in 2010.
If he’s going to have a gripe with people who ‘pick and choose’ what to talk about, perhaps he shouldn’t ignore multiple issues that did come about because of the Tories.
The Brexit vote only happened because David Cameron promised there would be one if he got into power.
It was also the Tories who made such a mess of the negotiations that we ended up losing access to the free market, which led to an increase in paperwork and import-export costs.
Immigration has become far worse, with Channel crossings on the rise thanks to failed policies of former home secretaries Suella Braverman and Priti Patel.
And while we would have had to deal with Covid no matter who was in power, Boris Johnson’s lack of action forced us to go into lockdown after he refused to stop flights from countries where infection levels were spiking.
And then he forced us into another after trying to lift the first too early (not helped by Rishi Sunak’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme, which actually helped the virus spread).
This is all before we even start on things such as former health secretary Matt Hancock moving infected patients out of hospitals and into care homes. Matthew, Birmingham
Who’s the party with a plan?
Barry ( MetroTalk, Fri ) complains that Sunak never defines what his ‘plan’ is. I wonder whether he has heard Sir Keir Starmer and his colleagues over the past two years or so?
Whatever the problem, ‘Labour has a plan’ – but just what that plan is, they never specify. They’re all the same.
With Starmer, I suspect Tony Blair and Peter Mandelson haven’t told him what the plan is yet. Alan Giles, Romford
Where I can buy a pinch of salt? The type you take with the election ‘pledges’ that are being made by all parties but will never come to fruition. Any suggestions welcome. Roger Shield, Wetherby
No such thing as a vegan vaccine
Selina accuses vegan Robin of being a ‘wannabe moral warrior’ for refusing vaccines on animal-testing grounds ( MetroTalk, Fri ).
The definition of ‘veganism’ is that it is a philosophy and way of living that seeks to exclude – so far as is possible and practicable – all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
It recognises that it is not always possible or practicable for vegans to avoid animal use, which is particularly relevant to medical situations.
Taking vaccines, including the one for Covid, is the most important thing we can do to protect ourselves and children against ill health. Each year they prevent of millions of deaths worldwide.
In the UK, diseases such as smallpox, polio and tetanus that used to kill or disable millions are gone or are rarely seen because of vaccinations.
Sadly, there is a legal requirement for all vaccines to be tested on animals – and it is important to campaign against this – but in the meantime it’s important that people, including vegans such as myself, take vaccines and make sure children get vaccinated and so carry on saving millions of lives. Mark Dawes, London
The long grass isn’t greener…
I haven’t seen many bees yet but it’s comforting to see Tower Hamlets council in London taking ‘rewilding’ to its heart. So much so that nary a lawnmower nor strimmer has ventured near parks or walkways recently.
Plastic bottles, beer cans, fag packets and used condoms are now nicely buried in the long grass, hidden under a field of pollen-laden flowers.
With all the long grass, it really is a politician’s wet dream in Tower Hamlets!

Lady Gaga Reveals She Had COVID While Performing Five Chromatica Ball Concerts
The singer also teases her new album
The invitation stated the event was going to be standing room only. “Think dance party while watching the film.”
And that’s exactly what it was. On Thursday night, Lady Gaga brought a dance party to NYA studios in Hollywood to mark the world premiere of her film “Gaga Chromatica Ball.”

Gaga also talked about the importance of her fans and how comforting they make her feel. She said, “This industry can feel very isolating sometimes, but I never feel alone when I’m with my fans.”
Asked to reveal something she had never said aloud or shared before, Gaga said she performed five shows while sick with COVID. Gaga put her crew safety first and said, “I shared it with everyone on my team. And I said, ‘I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable at work, and you don’t have to perform and you don’t have to work that day.'” She continued, “I just didn’t want to let all the fans down. The way that I saw it also is like the fans are all putting themselves in harm’s way every day coming to the show.”
Gaga first shared the news that she had been working on the film back in June 2023: “I spent countless hours in the editing room bringing my vision for this film to life. It is my gift to you – directed, produced and created by me, alongside some of the most talented, creative people in the world. The film’s executive producers are her longtime manager Bobby Campbell, Live Nation touring chief Arthur Fogel and Interscope Records’ John Janick and Steve Berman. The creative team also includes her longtime hair and makeup artists Frederic Aspiras and Sarah Tanno.
The ball celebrated Gaga’s sixth studio album “Chromatica,” which was released in the summer of 2020 — a dance party of tracks when there were few parties and most dancing was done at home. Variety ‘s Chris Willman wrote of the concert: “Gaga has remained undaunted in making it clear that 2020’s ‘Chromatica’ is the album she is very much touring behind, with 10 songs from the two-year-old album accounting for just under half the overall set. There was a sense of post-pandemic victory to Gaga’s increasingly lengthy asides, late in the two-hour-plus concert — ‘The whole world did not fade. We’re all here, in some kind of way,’ she said.'”
Surrounded by friends, family and her fans, Gaga stayed until the very end and when the credits rolled, the audience turned to her, cheered and applauded, the dance party might have ended, but the healing power of music was a vibe.

Gaga stayed true to her words: This album and tour would be a dance party. There were no seats at NYA. This was Gaga’s dancefloor and everyone was welcome to relive the memories and “strut it out, walk a mile and serve it ancient city style.”
The Chromatica Ball film will premiere on HBO on May 25 and will be available to stream on Max .

PGA golfer Grayson Murray dead at 30
Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray died Saturday morning at age 30, one day after he withdrew from the Charles Schwab Cup Challenge at Colonial.
There were no immediate details on the circumstances of his death, only shock and grief from the PGA Tour and his management team.
“I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said. “The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
His management company, GSE Worldwide, confirmed the death and said it was heartbroken.

“We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details, but out heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time,” GSE said in a statement.
Monahan said he spoke with Murray’s parents to offer condolences, and they asked that the tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, continue.
He said grief counselors would be on site at the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour event. Monahan said he was headed to Texas.
Murray, who had dealt with alcohol and mental issues in the past, made a massive turnaround this year and won the Sony Open, hitting wedge to 3 feet for birdie on the final hole to get into a playoff and winning it with a 40-foot putt.
He also won the Barbasol Championship in 2017.
Murray, who was No. 58 in the world ranking, was coming off a tie for 43rd in the PGA Championship last week at Valhalla. He also made the cut in his Masters debut, finishing 51st, and was in the field for the US Open next month at Pinehurst No. 2.
Murray, who grew up in North Carolina, was among the most talented juniors in the country. He won the prestigious Junior World Championship in San Diego three straight years and earned the Arnold Palmer Scholarship at Wake Forest.
He wound up going to three colleges, lastly at Arizona State, and won as a 22-year-old PGA Tour rookie at the Barbasol Championship.
Murray said when he won the Sony Open in January that he had been sober for eight months, was engaged to be married and felt his best golf was ahead of him. He was appointed to the 16-member Player Advisory Council.
“My story is not finished. I think it’s just beginning,” Murray said in Hawaii. “I hope I can inspire a lot of people going forward that have their own issues.”
Murray said he used to drink during tournament weeks as a rookie because he knew he had talent and felt he was invincible. He also brought attention to himself through social media, openly criticizing other players and getting into one social media spat with Kevin Na over Na’s reputation as a slow player. But he felt like he turned the corner when he sought help — letting others fight for him, is how he explained it this year.
“It took me a long time to get to this point,” Murray said in January. “That was seven years ago, over seven years ago. I’m a different man now. I would not be in this position right now today if I didn’t put that drink down eight months ago.”

What is There to See in Central Russia?
- Moscow is Russia’s capital and its political center. Moscow and the Central region with 10 million inhabitants are the country’s most populated and developed area.
- The Moscow region has lots of wonderful churches and also boasts Russia’s famous birch tree landscape. The group of ancient Russian towns that surround the city in a circular pattern is known as the Golden Ring.
- Sergiev Posad is home to the St. Trinity Sergeius Lavra, a monastery that has become the center of Russian orthodoxy.
- Rostov is the oldest town in North-Eastern Russia and was founded in 862. It is mostly renowned for its splendid architecture.
- The biggest city along the route is Yaroslavl . Nowadays, it plays an important role in industry and culture, but it also offers beautiful architecture, churches, monasteries, parks and mansions.
- The most important features of Suzdal are the Kremlin encompassing the historical center of town and the museum of wooden architecture and peasant life.
- Vladimir used to be the most important town of the Rus’. Today it is home to over 325,000 people and also serves as the administrative center of the area.
Moscow is the center of this region. It was founded in 1147 on Borovitsky hill and is mentioned for the first time in the Ipat'evskaya chronicle. In this long and fascinating chronicle, there is a story in which Yuri Dolgoruky (Yuri the long-armed) invites Duke Svyatoslav to "Come to me … in Moskov…" The modern name Moscow finally stuck only in the 14th century. In the first half of 13th century Moscow gradually became the cultural and political center of the Russian people, however in the winter of 1237-1238 it was sacked and ruined by Mongol-Tatar tribes. Those damn Mongol-Tartars were always messing things up! Luckily, it soon recovered and became a center of a separate principality. In 1326, the residence of the leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church was moved from Vladimir to Moscow. At this time, the city became the political and spiritual center of Rus (a Nordic word meaning "the Russian Nation"). In 1712, Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg, where it remained for two centuries (good for Peter - St. Petersburg is in fact a much nicer place than Moscow!). In March of 1918, Lenin moved the capital back to Moscow.
Moscow is situated on the delta of the Moskva river. Today, its population is approximately 10 million. The city is the residence of President Putin (but he is actually from St. Petersburg) and the Russian Government. Moscow and the Central region is currently the most developed area in the entire country. Moscow has an international airport and the majority of train journeys in Russia start from train stations in the city center.

The Moscow region
The region is situated in the center of the European part of Russia. This region is very Russian. It has all the marks of Russian Orthodoxy and the Russian character, even the language (dialect) differs from, let's say, the St. Petersburg area. Extremely beautiful, large, old, white churches are scattered throughout the land and the countryside abounds with Russia's legendary birch trees - the land is really inspiring! The climate is temperate continental. The average temperature in January is -10°C and in July +17°C. The Moscow region is a land of ancient towns and monasteries, century-old artistic traditions and buzzes with creative activity.
An interesting place to visit is the Novy Jerusalem Resurrection Monastery, which is situated in the town Istra. The Monastery was founded by the reformer of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Nikon (1605-1681) in 1658. Nikon's idea was to reconstruct the image of the Holy Land with the exact copy of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher on the bank of the Istra River near Moscow. The well-known architectural complex is included on the UNESCO list as a landmark of world culture.

Central Federal District
The Central Federal District is so named not because it is located in the centre of Russia but because it is the political and historical centre of the country. It is the most populated federal district although almost half of its population lives in Moscow and the Moscow Region and its area only represent 3.8% of the total Russian territory - a size approximately the same as France. It has two cities with a population of over one million: Moscow and Voronezh . The district consists of 18 federal subjects, including 17 regions and the federal city of Moscow - the capital of the Russian Federation and the administrative centre of the district. The district has excellent transport infrastructure and it is possible to get to practically any Russian city from Moscow. The Central Federal District shares a border with the Republic of Belarus and Ukraine.
As the historical core of Russia, the Central Federal District has the highest concentration of kremlins including the kremlins in Moscow, Tula, Kolomna, Zaraisk, Ryazan and Smolensk. In addition, it also has six UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Sergiev Posad’s Troitse-Sergieva Lavra , Moscow’s Red Square and Kremlin , Ascension Church in Kolomensky Park , Novodevichy Convent , Yaroslavl’s Historical Centre and Suzdal and Vladimir Monuments . The Central Federal District also boasts one of the most popular tourist routes in Russia - the Golden Ring of historical cities.
