Quick overview of the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card is a versatile credit card with various benefits and features. It offers perks and rewards, making it a great choice for maximizing credit card benefits. The Visa Infinite* version of the TD® Aeroplan® Card provides Aeroplan points on every purchase, exclusive travel benefits like priority boarding, and comprehensive travel insurance coverage.

Who is the TD Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card for?

With its competitive earn rates and comprehensive travel insurance package, this card is perfect for individuals who enjoy collecting Aeroplan Points or frequently travel. If you fall into either of these categories, we highly recommend learning more about this card and seeing if it aligns with your needs and preferences.

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card: Pros and cons

The card has a high earn rate for Aeroplan Points, generating 1.5 points† per $1 spent on eligible purchases.

Insurance offered includes coverage in the categories that travellers need, and is generally better than its Aeroplan peers at a similar annual fee level.

No airport lounge membership or free lounge access.

Aeroplan points can’t be redeemed for flights outside the Star Alliance network, nor can they be redeemed for cash credit. This makes them less flexible than some competing travel rewards programs.

Welcome bonus of the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card

While the $139 annual fee might raise eyebrows, the Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* from TD Bank more than recoups that cost with its impressive welcome bonus.  Earn up to $1,300 in value† including up to 40,000 Aeroplan points† and no Annual Fee for the first year†. Conditions Apply. Account must be approved by January 6, 2025.

Here is how the welcome offer breakdown:

  • Earn a welcome bonus of 10,000 Aeroplan points when you make your first purchase with your new card †
  • Earn 15,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $7,500 within 180 days of Account opening †
  • Plus , earn a one-time anniversary bonus of 15,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $12,000 within 12 months of Account opening †

To receive the first-year annual fee rebate, you must activate your Card and make your first Purchase on the Account within the first 3 months after Account opening and you must add your Additional Cardholders by January 6, 2025.

How to earn Aeroplan reward points with the Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card

With the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card, you’ll earn Aeroplan points on everyday purchases you make with your card:

  • Earn 1.5 points † for every $1 spent on eligible gas, grocery and direct through Air Canada® purchases (including Air Canada Vacations®)
  • Earn 1 point † for every $1 spent on all other purchases.

Beyond the basic earning categories with the card you can expect a few other nice surprises, including:

Earn double points: Pay with your Card and present your Aeroplan Membership Card at participating retailers and the Aeroplan eStore  to earn double the Aeroplan points†.

Earn big rewards on the little things: Earn 50% more Aeroplan Points and 50% more Stars at participating Starbucks® stores. Link your TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card to your Starbucks® Rewards account. Conditions apply. Learn more here.

How to redeem Aeroplan points

Aeroplan points never expire as long as your account is open and in good standing. Redeeming points through Aeroplan is easy. You can do so directly through the aircanada.ca website or the AirCanada app. The whole process has been transformed offering you more transparency and simplicity when redeeming your Aeroplan points.

Key Benefits of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card packs a hefty punch for its $139 annual fee. The card earns an enhanced 1.5 Aeroplan pointer per dollar spent on eligible gas, grocery, and Air Canada purchases, including Air Canada Vacations. Those categories are robust and should provide cardholders with plenty of opportunities to quickly attain elite Aeroplan program tiers.

But there is so much more. The card packs many travel and other insurance and protection benefits, including travel interruption and cancellation insurance, baggage protection, cell phone coverage, and more. Those are in addition to the other benefits, namely the free 1st checked bag for up to 8 guests on the same itinerary and NEXUS security fast pass credits.

TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card insurance coverage

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* card provides many insurance benefits as a Visa Infinite product. This card offers a comprehensive travel insurance package, including some things not typically covered by other credit card insurance programs. Here are some things this card’s insurance covers:

Cardholders have access to a toll-free number for any issues or emergencies when it comes to your travels.

Extra Benefits of the Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card from TD

Here are the other excellent travel and lifestyle benefits for frequent flyers that come with the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card:

  • Free checked bag: This card’s perks extend even further to checking your bags when you get to your flight. You get your first checked bag free as well as up to 8 other travelers on the same reservation when your flight originates on an Air Canada flight.†
  • NEXUS credits: Enroll for NEXUS, and once every 48 months, get an application fee. NEXUS provides pre-screened travelers with expedited processing at the U.S./Canadian border.
  • Additional rental car savings: With your TD credit card, you can save 10% off at Avis and Budget locations in North America and at least 5% on locations elsewhere. The TD Aeroplan Visa car rental insurance coverage protects the car and other people's property from damage. Pay the full amount with your card and you can decline the additional insurance coverage at the counter. The car's retail price must be less than $65,000 new, and your rental period cannot exceed 48 consecutive days.
  • Visa Infinite concierge access: 24/7 access to Visa Infinite Concierge can help with any Cardholder request, no matter what the size.
  • Luxury Hotel Collection access: Exclusive access to bookings at more than over 900 of the finest properties in the world.
  • Visa Infinite services: Enjoy access to wine experiences, exclusive golfing events, hard-to-get dinner reservations, and more through Visa Infinite.
  • Mobile wallet compatibility: Use Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay wherever contactless payments are accepted.
  • Chip and pin technology for an added layer of security.

Rates and fees of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card

Interest rates.

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card comes with some standard interest rates. You’ll pay 20.99% on standard purchases, 22.99% on balance transfers, as well as 22.99% on cash advances.

  • Annual fee: $139
  • Additional cardholder† annual fees: $75
  • Cash advance transaction: 1% of the amount of the transaction (minimum fee of $3.50 up to a maximum fee of $10.00) (in Canada) or $5.00 (outside Canada), plus $3.00 at a PLUS* network ATM. (Fee does not apply to a Balance Transfer or TD Visa Cheque).
  • Foreign transaction fee: 2.5%
  • Dishonoured payment fees: $48
  • Rush card fee (per rush delivery request): $25
  • Overlimit fee: $29
  • Balance transfer / cheque fee: 3% of the amount of each Balance Transfer or TD Visa Cheque

How the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* compares

Aeroplan - td aeroplan visa infinite card vs. american express gold card.

†To receive the first-year annual fee rebate, you must activate your Card and make your first Purchase on the Account within the first 3 months after Account opening and you must add your Additional Cardholders by January 6, 2025.

†Terms and conditions apply.

As an Amex, the  American Express Gold Rewards Card  has more limited merchant acceptance rates than a Visa or Mastercard, which is definitely a drawback.

But the American Express® Gold Rewards Card does have a hidden feature worth pointing out : its  Amex Membership Rewards points  can be transferred 1:1 to Aeroplan. And if you instead opt to keep the points you earn as Amex points they will still be more flexible than Aeroplan points, as you can redeem Amex points directly against a charge to your credit card.

Comparing Aeroplan Visa Infinite cards

The information for the CIBC Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card has been collected independently by Money.ca. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.  This offer is not available for residents of Quebec.

With virtually the same benefits, complete insurance coverage, and earn rates, it's hard to lose with either card—they're both winners.

TD Aeroplan Infinite Visa vs. TD Visa Infinite Rewards

The TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card unlocks any airline, but the best value is when you book with Expedia. Neither Aeroplan nor TD Rewards points expire.  With the same insurance, annual fee, and similar perks, and both highly rated loyalty programs, the question becomes which points have more value.

The net annual rewards (deducting the annual fee) of the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card is just under $400 and the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card (also deducting the annual fee) is around $230 (if you're spending about $2,000 a month).

The welcome bonus with TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card is worth up to $1,300 in value† whereas the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card is worth up to $1,000 in value†.

So TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card wins, right? Well, are you more loyal to the Aeroplan where you can switch to Amex, CIBC, Scotia with ease or are you loyal to TD and its reward program?

Is TD Visa Infinite worth it?

In my opinion, the card’s best features are the travel insurance program and high earn rate. Rewards are valued higher when redeemed for Air Canada flights and lounges but if you can make your travel plans align, it can be worth it.

This card is a great option for eligible, frequent travellers who can take advantage of the high earn categories and practical travel perks. Its sign up bonus gives the card immediate value, while the earn rates and included travel insurance maintain the card’s value even as you pay an annual fee.

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* credit card eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for this card you have to be a Canadian resident at the age of majority of their province or territory. You’ll also have to have a minimum personal income of $60,000 or household income of $100,000 and a credit score in the good to excellent range.

From the East Coast, 60,000 Aeroplan points (or often fewer, thanks to Air Canada’s ® preferred pricing benefit if you hold Aeroplan Elite Status or a co-branded credit card ) would unlock a transatlantic flight to most parts of Western Europe. Closer to home, short-haul flights within North America that are under 500 miles only cost as few as 6,000 Aeroplan points one-way.

Drawbacks of the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card

The $599 annual fee may be a dealbreaker for those considering the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card. Another limiting factor? The steep annual income criteria. Applicants must have a personal annual income of at least $150,000 or an annual household income of at least $200,000 to qualify.

Who should get the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card?

The card offers its highest earn rate on money spent on eligible Air Canada purchases, and some of its travel perks, like priority boarding and baggage handling, are only available on Air Canada flights.

Is the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card worth it?

The card carries a very hefty $599 annual fee that won’t make it a good fit for many consumers, as well as high annual income requirements. However, the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card may be worthwhile for those who frequently travel and fly Air Canada, as they will be best positioned to take advantage of this card’s numerous perks.

Who qualifies for the td® aeroplan® visa infinite privilege* credit card.

To qualify for the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card, you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident.
  • Be at least the age of majority for your province or territory.
  • Have a personal annual income of at least $150,000 or an annual household income of at least $200,000.

Approximate credit score needed for approval

Canadian credit card issuers rarely disclose required credit scores , which makes it hard to know your chances of approval when comparing credit cards. However, higher scores generally mean better chances of approval, and that’s true regardless of the type of credit you’re applying for. Want to learn more? Visit our “ What Credit Score is Needed for a Credit Card? ” page.

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card rewards

Earn up to 80,000 Aeroplan points if you’re approved for the card by January 6, 2025.

  • Get 20,000 points when you make your first purchase with your new card.
  • Get an additional 30,000 points when you spend at least $12,000 within your first six months of card membership.
  • Get a 30,000-point anniversary bonus when you spend at least $24,000 within the first year of card membership.

Earn Aeroplan points at the following rates:

  • 2 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on eligible Air Canada purchases.
  • 1.5 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on groceries, gas, travel and restaurant purchases.
  • 1.25 Aeroplan points per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Points can be redeemed for flights, hotel stays, car rentals, merchandise, gift cards and more.

According to NerdWallet analysis, the average value of 1 Aeroplan point is 2.23 cents. That means that the TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card’s welcome offer of 80,000 Aeroplan points is worth about $1,784, depending on how you redeem your points. But this card’s true value resides in its travel perks.

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card offers a slew of luxurious benefits. Cardholders get unlimited Maple Leaf Lounge access across Canada and the United States — a membership that would cost at least $375 annually to purchase outright, and at the time of this writing, is not actually available. And the airport lounge access doesn’t end there. Cardholders receive an additional six airport lounge passes annually via the Visa Airport Companion Program for access to over 1,200 airport lounges worldwide.

The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Credit Card also offers access to NEXUS fee rebates of up to $100 every four years.

The card comes with robust travel insurance, as well, including up to $5 million of travel medical coverage per insured person per trip. The extensive insurance could prove valuable if it ever needs to be put to use.

Point value breakdown

NerdWallet searched more than 75 flights in 2021 and 2022 to determine the average value for Air Canada flights. Based on our analysis, the average value of 1 Aeroplan point is worth 2.23 cents.

More specifically, you can expect to get around:

  • 1.69 cents in value per Aeroplan point for economy class awards on Air Canada flights.
  • 2.81 cents in value per Aeroplan point for business class awards on Air Canada flights.

  • You want a credit card with no annual fee , or a lower annual fee.
  • You don’t meet the high income requirements.
  • You don’t plan to spend $25,000 per year on the card, which is required to earn the annual companion pass.

The Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard stands out in the crowded credit card market with its unique rewards structure. This card incentivizes paying down your balance rather than ramping up your spending. This approach promotes healthy financial habits and helps cardholders maintain a low balance and improve their credit score. Aside from that, you’ll find a surprisingly well-rounded card with no annual fee.

  • Earn 5 points per dollar paid towards your credit card balance and points never expire
  • Includes coverage for purchases, rental cars and travel insurance

Earning Rewards

Earning rewards with the Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard is straightforward. For every dollar you pay towards your credit card balance, you will earn 5 points. Compared to other no-fee cards , the earning potential is modest but consistent.

Redeeming Rewards

Redemptions are somewhat limited with this card. Points can be redeemed for gift cards or account credits. The redemption process is simple enough, so long as your account is in good standing. Any delinquent accounts could lose unredeemed points.

Rewards Potential

The rewards potential of the Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard is decent for a no-fee credit card. At 5 points per dollar, you can earn around $348.31 in annual rewards based on average Canadian spending. However, you can only spend your extra cash on gift cards and statement credits. Other no-fee cards let you redeem points for travel or shopping, like the TD Rewards Visa Card .

  • Purchase Assurance: Eligible card purchases are insured against theft, loss or damage for 120 days after the purchase date.
  • Price Protection: If an item you purchased goes on sale within 60 days of purchase, you may be eligible to receive the cost difference up to $100 per item and $500 per calendar year.
  • Car Rental Insurance: Save on collision damage waiver insurance when using your Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard to rent a car for less than 31 days.
  • Travel Insurance: Receive $250,000 in common carrier travel accident insurance and up to $100 per day for three days if your checked baggage is delayed for more than four hours while travelling.

Interest Rates

  • Regular APR Min: 21.90%
  • Cash Advance APR: 21.90%
  • Balance Transfer APR: 21.90%
  • Foreign Transaction Fee: 2.5%
  • Annual Fee: $0
  • Any Other Fees: Late payment, cash advance and balance transfer fees

Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard vs. Capital One Aspire Travel Platinum Mastercard

The Capital One Aspire Travel Platinum Mastercard earns 1 reward mile per dollar on every purchase, which you can redeem for travel, account credits or gift cards. This offers more flexibility but less rewards value, earning around $278.51 annually compared to $348.31 with the Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard.

Choosing between these Capital One credit cards depends on how you want to use your points. You might be better off sacrificing redemption options for a better return on account credits that can still help lower your travel costs.

Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard vs. Rogers Red World Elite® Mastercard®

If you’re already paying for a service from Rogers, Shaw or Fido, consider the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard for cash-back rewards. Customers can earn 2% unlimited cash back on all purchases and 3% on items in U.S. dollars. Plus, you’ll get extra travel benefits and insurance for trips with no annual fee.

Your annual income must be at least $80,000 to qualify for this card. There are no income requirements for the Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard, and you’ll get comparable value for rewards points.

Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard vs. CIBC Aeroplan Visa

The CIBC Aeroplan Visa is ideal for frequent flyers with Air Canada. This no-fee card comes with travel perks and earns 1 Aeroplan point per dollar on gas, EV charging, groceries and Air Canada purchases, and 1 point per $1.50 on everything else. Depending on your spending, your annual rewards could be worth between $444.02 and $461.24.

If you don’t want to put all your points toward travel, then it might make more sense to use the Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard for statement credits.

When determining a rating for individual credit cards, the Forbes Advisor Canada editorial team factors in an exhaustive list of data points. With this card, the scoring model used takes into account factors such as, but not limited to, rewards rates and categories, fees, welcome bonus, and other benefits and features. Keep in mind what may be best for some people might not be right for you. Conduct informed research before deciding which cards will best help you achieve your financial goals.

The Capital One Smart Rewards Mastercard is a solid choice for building credit or anyone who appreciates some motivation for making monthly payments. If you’re looking for more rewards and redemption options, there are plenty of other no-fee credit cards that fit the bill.

Account must be opened by September 26, 2024. Offer consists of two parts that New to Canada customers may qualify for separately: a Mobile Purchase Bonus and a Cash Back Bonus

Mobile Purchase Bonus: Earn $10 in Cash Back Dollars when you add your new TD Cash Back Visa* Card (opened during the Offer Period) to your mobile wallet and make a mobile Purchase within the first 5 months. Eligible Purchases for the Mobile Purchase Bonus: Purchases must be charged to the Account at any merchant that accepts Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay during the Offer Period. For example, if your monthly statement cycle is from August 15 to September 14, a Purchase made on September 14 (transaction date) and posts on September 15 (posting date) will not count for eligible Purchase for that month and will count towards spend in the next month's statement cycle. If the August 15 to September 14 period was your 5th monthly statement cycle, then the Purchase that was made on September 14 and posted on September 15 would not count towards this Offer.

To earn up to $135 in Cash Back Dollars to the TD Cash Back Visa* Card, you must keep your Account open, active and in good standing during the Offer Period and at the time the Cash Back Dollars are applied to your Account. Offer may be changed, withdrawn (excluding Quebec) or extended at any time and cannot be combined with any other offer unless otherwise indicated. ^  Account must be open and in Good Standing to earn and redeem Cash Back Dollars. Redemptions of Cash Back Dollars at any time on request must be for a minimum amount of $25. Where Cash Back Dollars are redeemed on an annual basis, the annual earnings period will start from when the Card is used to make Purchases until the Account’s January billing cycle of the following year, after which time the annual earnings period will continue each year from the Account’s January billing cycle to the January billing cycle of the following year. Cash Back Dollars will continue to accrue until redemption instructions are provided. There is no maximum annual amount of Cash Back Dollars that can be earned. For complete details on how to redeem Cash Back Dollars, please see the “TD Cash Back Program Terms and Conditions” section of the TD Cash Back Visa Cardholder Agreement available at  www.td.com/agreements

2  Earn 1% in Cash Back Dollars  ("Gas Rebate")  for each $1.00 in Purchases of gas or gas station services or products  ("Gas Purchases")  charged to your TD Cash Back Credit Card Account  ("Account")  and earn 1% in Cash Back Dollars  ("Grocery Rebate")  for each $1.00 in Purchases of groceries or grocery items  ("Grocery Purchases")  charged to your Account. Any returned items, refunds, rebates or other similar credits will reduce or cancel the Cash Back Dollars earned on the original Gas Purchase or Grocery Purchase, as applicable.  $5,000 Cap : Each of the Gas Rebate and the Grocery Rebate is only available to a $5,000 maximum net annual spend  ("$5,000 Cap") . Once the $5,000 Cap has been reached for either Gas Purchases or Grocery Purchases, then any further Gas Purchases and Grocery Purchases made on the Account will earn Cash Back Dollars at the standard rebate of 0.5% that applies to all other Purchases on the Account as set out in your Cardholder Agreement  ("Standard Rebate"). Applicability of Gas Rebate and Grocery Rebate:  Each of the Gas Rebate and the Grocery Rebate is in place of, and not in addition to, the Standard Rebate.  Merchant Category Codes : To earn the Gas Rebate and/or Grocery Rebate, the Gas Purchases and/or Grocery Purchases must be made at merchants classified through the Visa network with a Merchant Category Code  ("MCC")  that identifies them in the "gas" or "grocery" category. Some merchants may sell gas or gas station services or products, or groceries or grocery items, or have separate merchants located on their premises that also sell gas or gas station services or products, or groceries or grocery items, but may not be classified with a gas or grocery MCC and such Purchases will not earn the Gas Rebate or Grocery Rebate, as applicable. If you have questions about the MCC that applies to a Purchase, contact TD at  1-800-983-8472 .  Other Conditions : Offer may be changed, withdrawn or extended at any time and cannot be combined with any other offer.

3  Earn 1% in Cash Back Dollars (" PAP Rebate ") on each $1.00 in payments made on a monthly or other regularly recurring basis for merchant bills, including insurance premiums, magazine/newspaper/online streaming subscriptions, membership fees and telecommunication fees, that are set up by the merchant with your consent to be automatically charged to your TD Cash Back Credit Card Account (" Account ") and that are classified through the Visa network as "recurring payments" (" Pre-Authorized Payments "). You must confirm with your merchant if they can accept Pre-Authorized Payments. Any returned items, refunds, rebates or other similar credits will reduce or cancel the Cash Back Dollars earned on the original Pre-Authorized Payment.  $5,000 Cap:  The PAP Rebate is only available to a $5,000 maximum net annual spend ("$5,000 Cap"). Once the $5,000 Cap has been reached, then any further Pre-Authorized Payments made on the Account will only earn Cash Back Dollars at the standard rebate of 0.5% that applies to all other Purchases on the Account as set out your Cardholder Agreement  ("Standard Rebate"). Applicability of PAP Rebate: The PAP Rebate is in place of, and not in addition to, the Standard Rebate.  Other Conditions:  Offer may be changed, withdrawn or extended at any time and cannot be combined with any other offer.

4  Earn 0.5% in Cash Back Dollars (" Standard Rebate ") on each $1.00 for all other Purchases (" Other Purchases ") charged to your TD Cash Back Credit Card Account (" Account "). Any returned items, refunds, rebates or other similar credits will reduce or cancel the Cash Back Dollars earned on the original Purchase.  Other Conditions:  Offer may be changed, withdrawn or extended at any time and cannot be combined with any other offer.
