Srixon Introduces I-701 Series Irons

August 9, 2007

Forged Cavity Back Tradition Meets Digital Impact Science

ATLANTA—August 8, 2007 – Srixon Sports, a leader in innovative golf club technology, today announces the launch of Srixon’s I-701 and I-701 Tour irons, the latest in Srixon’s long history of scoring tools for a wide range of golfers

The I-701 is a forged cavity back iron that is traditional in the playing position, but designed with a generous sweet area and a pocket cavity structure which allows for a lower and deeper center of gravity. The result is an extremely stable clubhead through impact enabling low to mid handicap golfers to get the ball airborne easier for higher, straighter and longer irons shots.

"Srixon’s continued innovation and use of our proprietary Digital Impact Technology has led us to a new generation of playability combined with tradition in the I-701 irons," said Richard Stamper, Srixon’s President. "Understanding that optimal launch conditions are vital to more than just the driver, we’ve designed an iron with a center of gravity positioning that is ideal. Our Digital Impact Technology allowed us to determine the optimal weighting and low and deep CG placement in every iron which gets the ball airborne with precise distance control. By combining a pocket cavity back weighting structure with a two-piece clubhead design featuring a thinner larger face, golfers will be able to hit the ball higher, longer and straighter with the I-701 irons. This design also produces a high COR area which is 50% larger than previous Srixon irons meaning they are incredibly forgiving on off-center hits."

The I-701 irons combine a traditional profile iron with a progressive offset. The clubhead is a unique two-piece design with a forged 1025 carbon steel body and an extremely soft forged 1020 carbon steel face. The softer, thinner clubface allows for a very large, high coefficient of restitution (COR) area making the I-701 irons extremely long, even on off-center hits.

This unique blend of science and golfers eye appeal is already in the bag of 2007 Accenture Match Play Champion Henrik Stenson. "The I-701 are the best irons I have hit. They set up beautifully at address and with the incredible forgiveness of the pocket cavity structure, my mis-hits are still very good. The soft forged clubface gives me the spin, precision and feedback I need to attack the tight pins used on today’s tour courses."

The I-701 irons come standard with True Temper Dynamic Gold shafts. They are available in right hand from 3 through pitching wedge (46°). Suggested retail price per set (3-PW) is $999.

The technology of the I-701 iron is also available in a tour version for the shotmaker looking for complete control. The I-701 Tour iron is a 1025 forged carbon steel cavity back with a thin topline combined with minimal offset, which is the setup profile preferred by better players. The iron features a unique face press milling treatment and engraved U-Grooves to create spin in all playing conditions. The sole has been designed with cuts in the toe and heel to reduce the turf profile and allow the club to pass through almost any lie with ease. Its center of gravity placement is slightly higher than that of the I-701 producing a penetrating ball flight for ballstrikers who like to work their approach shots toward the target.

The I-701 Tour was developed with the help of Srixon’s World Class PGA Tour staff and is currently found in the bag of Tim Clark. "I saw the new Srixon I-701 Tour irons the week before the U.S. Open and knew I had to get them in play right away," said Clark. "While it’s usually not advisable to change your irons right before the most demanding tournament in the world, these new irons had the perfect look for me – they set up perfectly, move through the turf beautifully and feel extremely solid shot after shot. They’re designed with an ideal combination of workability, which is vital to attack course setups on the PGA Tour, and enough forgiveness that my mis-hits are still very much in play. In fact, I led the field in Greens in Regulation at my last event in Milwaukee and hit all 18 greens during the third round. I’ve made my living on tour with solid ball striking, so naturally I am demanding when it comes to what I put in my bag. I can say that these new irons are, in a word, awesome."

Suggested retail for a set of I-701 Tour (3-PW) is $1199.

new srixon i-701 tour irons

Published: 02 October 2007 Last updated: 01 April 2014

srixon 701 tour

The Srixon I-701 Tour iron is the latest offering in forged clubhead design and those behind it say it’s set to be a ‘modern classic’.

Developed with the top players in mind the Srixon I-701 Tour will offer pinpoint precision, superior feel and playability thanks to a pressed milled face, which will increase spin, even in wet conditions.

The sole of the golf club has been reshaped to reduce turf drag too and with a classic blade profile (read as scarily small for high handicappers!) it allows better players to work the ball like magicians.

Expect to see them in the shops later this year but as we went to press prices were yet to be confirmed.

Well worth the money, great feel.

Nice clubs, these are one club shorter than my Wilson Ci9's and Callaway X Tours. However, I can work the ball more with these clubs, I also have a set of MacGregor cavity back forged irons and the Srixons are longer. For the money I paid for these irons, it was worth every penny. I highly recommend these clubs.

Srixon I-701 Iron Set

The clubs are very long and they are easy to hit but the club face on two of the irons are worn. This wasn't put in the item discription and also the grips on the clubs are very worn as well and need to be replaced. These two things would have made a big difference in my buying decision had they been in the item disceription.

srixon 701 irons

great irons. for good players looking for a great classic looking iron that's surprisingly forgiving. Pros= good shafts, great looking at adress and the back of the club looks good, feels pure when hit, forged finish is beautiful, good grips(lampkin) just all around good irons Cons= just dont hit it thin and there are no cons... thin shots felt particularly harsh

Customer

My wife & I have just completed the Journey of a Lifetime 16 day 15 night Trip as organised by Express to Russia. We also had a tour of St Petersburg & Moscow as well. The planning & execution of both trips was well above our expectations. The guides we had in all of our destinations were exceptional & the meet & greet & return to the stations went as smooth as clockwork. We had one minor hitch but that was through no fault of Express to Russia..a quick email from our Ipad had the problem resolved immediately We did have some misgivings at the start about doing the booking online ourselves but Elena was wonderful & answered all of our questions promptly & to our satisfaction. We felt comfortable with the whole process. The train trip is wonderful with Mongolia being a "special " place for us! We highly recommend Elena & her company. I am happy to answer any questions any body may wish to ask.

Thank you so very much for organizing our trip. Everything went wonderfully, and we really enjoyed our time in Russia. Moscow was beautiful, Lake Baikal was very cold, yet very fun to swim in, and the DPR Koreans that I met and made friends with in Vladivostok was beyond priceless. The guides you got for us did an exceptional job, and the drivers helped us out a lot as well. The hotels you got for us were great, and the room you got for us in the Vladivostok really made the long stay comfortable. The trains were also very enjoyable as was the Russian hospitality, although we really weren´t expecting people to be so generous or helpful. Overall, the trip was wonderful, and you arranged it magnificently. You really went out of your way to accommodate my schedule and help me with my schoolwork, so I really appreciate it; I couldn´t have done it without you. So once again, thank you for all of your efforts, and hopefully in the future you will be able to help us out again. Take care, and thank you for everything.

The Trans-Siberian Express is the longest train journey in the world. A train on Trans-Siberian Railway

Trans-Siberian Train

The main route of the Trans-Siberian Railway begins in Moscow and heads east to Vladivostok passing through Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude, Chita, Blagoveshchensk and Khabarovsk. The length of the route is 9259 km or 5753 miles. The train travels through 7 time zones and takes 8 days to complete without making overnight stops. The Trans-Siberian splits off into a few other fascinating directions as well:

Trans-Mongolian Train

The Trans-Mongolian Line was built from 1940 to 1956 between Ulan-Ude at Lake Baikal’s eastern shore and the Chinese capital Beijing. From Ulan-Ude the tracks go south towards Mongolia, crossing the great Gobi Desert and finally ending up in Beijing. This route is a mere 7867 kilometers long (Moscow - Beijing).

A train on Trans-Siberian in 1916

Trans-Manchurian Train

The Trans-Manchurian Line runs on the same route as the Trans-Siberian as far as Tarskaya, which is a few hundred miles east of Baikal. From Tarskaya, the line runs southeast into China near Zabaikalsk and makes its way down to Beijing. This route is a 9001 kilometres long (Moscow - Beijing).

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

Where does the trans-siberian railway start and where does it end.

The Trans-Siberian Railway starts in Moscow and extends all the way to Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean. This route connects the European part of Russia, the Ural region, Siberia and the Russian Far East.

Are Beijing and Ulan Bator stops along the Trans-Siberian railway?

Beijing and Ulan Bator are parts of Trans-Mongolian railway - an offshoot of the main Trans-Siberian Railway. There are many options to arrange your travel: to visit Ulan Bator and or follow the Trans-Siberian railway to or from Vladivostok.

Can I use the hop-on hop-off principle when traveling by Trans-Siberian train?

Unfortunately, that is not possible. Train tickets in Russia are not open, so you will need a separate ticket with a particular date for each leg of your trip - for example, you may go all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok, but you will only be able to leave the train for short stops at the railway stations. In case if you would like to explore different cities on the way, you will need separate tickets, for example Moscow – Yekaterinburg, Yekaterinburg – Irkutsk, Irkutsk - Vladivostok. We offer carefully planned private tours that will allow you to visit several cities on your way.

Are there showers aboard Trans-Siberian trains?

Most of the Trans-Siberian trains do not have showers, and there are two WCs per each carriage. Please consider it while planning your trip. We recommend to choose shorter distances (that is, to plan more overnight stops in the cities along the way) to avoid the inconvenience of not showering. Another option is to choose the trip on board a more luxurious train which has all the on-board amenities that one might need.

Are meals included on the board of Trans-Siberian express train?

When traveling with RZD regular trains meals are not included. You can easily buy your meals in the restaurant car.  Another option is to buy local specialties from “babushkas” (grandmothers, or simply Russian old ladies) on the short train stops along the way. This is a very authentic way of getting your meals.

What is the most comfortable way to travel on the Trans-Siberian railroad?

There are luxurious trains on the Trans-Siberian railway that are quite different from regular RZD trains and can be described as 5* hotels on wheels. We offer this type of accommodation on the Imperial Russia train where you can enjoy a full board menu, a shower and a comfortable compartment.

I would like to know this also. I got mine with the "FST" (real KBS) shafts. I do know they are shorter than standard.

Here is what I've gathered so far; SRIXON I-701 TOUR? or NON Tour? Iron 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 PW Loft 18 21 24 27 30 34 38 42 46 Lie 59 59.5 60 60.5 61 61.5 62 62.5 63 I'm fairly sure these specs are correct for the Tours. As for length , my I-701 Tour 6 iron is 37" to the end of shaft (not including grip cap). I also have a NON Tour 701 6 iron with the original specs sticker on the shaft, and it is 37.25. . The NON Tour also has a 62* lie angle, and a D2 s/w (6iron). I loaned my s/w scale to a friend so I can't verify those numbers. I have a nice set of unaltered Tours coming this week that I will use to compare to the clubs I have. I'm getting my s/w scale back and I have a Mitchell L/L unit that gives accurate readings. I will report the findings. If anyone has a set of I-701 Tours with DGS300 and std specs, feel free to give up some info! Or feel free to give up the clubs, I could also use a nice backup set of these SWEET irons!

  1. Srixon i-701 Tour

The Srixon I-701 Tour iron is the latest offering in forged clubhead design and those behind it say it's set to be a 'modern classic'. Developed with the top players in mind the Srixon I-701 Tour will offer pinpoint precision, superior feel and playability thanks to a pressed milled face, which will increase spin, even in wet conditions. ...

  2. Srixon I-701

The new I-701 irons are available in two distinct head types - a classic shallow-cavity Tour model designed for excellent feel and control thanks to a "press-milled" forged face, and this slightly larger pocket-cavity model, again forged to give low to mid-handicappers the feel and control they crave, but with the added bonus of extra forgiveness.

  3. Srixon I-701 irons review

So a brief review from my perspective: Distance: I hit these Srixon's long. Very long (DG R300 shafts). I had lost a lot of distance with both sets of Pings, some of it due to the stronger lofts on the Di7's. I get it all back with the 701's in spades. A well struck 9 iron for either Ping ~90-100 yds, with these ~120 yds. Even a miss goes ...

  6. Srixon i-701 Better Player Irons Review

The i701 irons were a mid-table performer in our test, and won some admirers for their shiny and attractive finish and design. The press-milled face increases spin control in rough and wet conditions, and a new sole design reduces turf drag from all lies. Decent performance and solid feel were plus points, but a slight lack of forgiveness in ...

  7. Srixon Srixon I-701 Tour Iron Set 4-PW with Steel Shafts

The I-701 Tour has a thinner topline than the I-701, and minimal offset, which is a profile preferred by the better player. The soft 1025 forged carbon-steel clubhead provides great feel and tremendous feedback and the shallow cavity design provides a measure of forgiveness not usually associated with a compact blade with this level of playability.

  20. Srixon I-701 Tour with Tour Concept Shaft, any thoughts?

As for the Srixon head, it's remarkably forgiving. Looks very compact with little offset and thin top line but is very forgiving especially on toe hits, my usual miss. No sure on the stock swingweight but feels kinda head heavy which I like. I'm coming off a few seasons with a set of Hogan FTX's and a set of Precept Tour Premiums before that.

  21. Srixon I-701 Tour iron Specs? Standard swingweight?

Lie 59 59.5 60 60.5 61 61.5 62 62.5 63. I'm fairly sure these specs are correct for the Tours.
