Southall Travel praises ‘strong relationships’ as turnover grows

Annual turnover at Southall Travel Group grew by 18% in the past year to £419 million. The figure for the 12 months to March compares with £355 million in the previous 12 months. Managing director, Kuljinder Bahia, said: “I am extremely pleased with our achievement last year. “All the brands are doing well and I am thankful for our strong relationships with our suppliers and to our customers who book with us time and time again. “In particular our Holiday Team brand working in the B2B market has shown strong results.” He added: “We have increased investment in consumer marketing and will continue to do so. “Looking forward, our growth focus is on North American destinations and this will be driven by expanded destination marketing.”

Southall Travel is a fast-growing operation originally based in the eponymous west London suburb, run by Kuljinder Bahia. Born in the Punjab, Bahia took over the firm in 1997 aged only 24. He made his name offering flights and tours predominantly in India, but also in Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Sri Lanka and Dubai. More recently, Southall Travel has branched out into corporate and wholesale travel and in 2013 launched its own website, Travel Trolley. Now headquartered in Buckinghamshire, in 2012-13 Southall Travel’s parent company, Onkar International, made £14.8m profit on £283.3m of sales.

The company has enjoyed phenomenal growth during past few years and needed much larger space than its current headquarters in Buckinghamshire to accommodate its expanding business and team. The company intends to move its corporate headquarters to this new six- storey facility on Dover Street in the third quarter of 2016. Southall Travel acquired the state-of-the-art office facility after a three-year search and with an investment of £17 million. The travel company currently maintains headquarters at Iver, Buckinghamshire .
The relocation of headquarters is part of the company’s long-term expansion strategy. Southall Travel Group has witnessed accelerated growth over the past few years and a much larger space was needed to accommodate the expansion. The new office building in London will provide more flexible and accessible venue for meeting and conference facilities with the firm's business partners and suppliers.

Southall Travel’s Managing Director Presented with ITT’s Odyssey Award
London, United Kingdom, 31 October 2016 – Buckinghamshire based Travel Company Southall Travel’s Managing Director Mr. Kuljinder Bahia has been honoured with the Institute of Travel & Tourism (ITT)’s Odyssey Award in recognition of his contribution to the travel and tourism industry. Mr. Bahia was presented the highly coveted award at the ITT’s 60th Anniversary Party at London’s Dorchester Hotel on Park Lane.
The gala event replaced the usual annual ITT President’s Dinner. There was a welcome reception, a three-course dinner and entertainment from Britain’s Got Talent runners-up swing band Jack Pack. Some of the industry’s biggest names were part of the night.
In an interview which was featured recently on the ITT’s newsletter, Mr. Bahia said his proudest moment had been “surpassing the £500 million annual turnover figure from our initial £500,000 20 years ago.”
“Although the number itself is a milestone, it’s more what it represents in establishing our team as one of the most significant travel providers in the market,” he continued.
The honour comes close on the heels of Southall Travel being ranked at the 17th position in the prestigious Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 league table that ranks Britain’s private mid-market growth companies with the biggest sales.
