Great singles cruises to book and meet fascinating people

Melinda Crow

Start humming the theme song to "The Love Boat" because we're going to do a deep dive into how to find the perfect singles cruises to book if you want to meet people.

Is it possible to meet your forever match on a cruise ship? Absolutely.

An editor I once knew found her true love on an expedition-style cruise. They married within months of returning home and now have two children. Whether it was the thrill of the expedition, the forced digital detox of a remote destination or the close quarters of a small ship, their relationship clearly blossomed on board.

Cruise ships offer a unique way to meet new and often fascinating people, whether you're looking for romance or simply want to enjoy the company of other people vacationing the same way you do.

There are single cruisers on almost every ship. Some sail solo; others are in friend or family groups. Dining arrangements, onboard activities and port tours make meeting like-minded people easy. Also, it's socially acceptable to strike up conversations with others throughout the ship.

Some cruise lines make it even easier for singles to find each other with solo cabins clustered together and scheduled events for singles.

If you'd like to find companionship at sea, here are our top tips for making the most of a singles cruise.

Tips for making the most of a singles cruise

singles vacation cruises

As on dry land, activities are often the best way to meet people on a cruise. If you love to dance, go where the music is. If water sports are your thing, book a tropical cruise with a schedule of shore excursions that involve snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving and similar activities. Choose tours focused on wildlife watching, historical sites or food and beverage to meet shipmates who enjoy the same.

You'll often find other singles within shore excursion tour groups . However, you can increase your odds by joining social media groups specific to your cruise dates where you can connect pre-cruise with anyone cruising single.

In fact, there are dozens of social media groups dedicated to singles who love to cruise. Some groups focus on specific cruise lines, while others are broader in scope. Either way, they provide an easy opportunity to start a conversation with other singles before you ever set foot on the ship.

Your vessel's daily activity schedule is also a good place to find other singles. Check on the cruise line's app , on the interactive TV in your cabin or in the printed version (if there is one) for planned gatherings of singles, which are often pre-dinner meetups at bars.

A theme cruise is another way to meet people with similar interests. Sailings focus on country music, popular TV shows, wine tasting, crafting and other hobbies and interests. Not only will you likely find plenty of singles ready to mingle, but it might also be easier to strike up a conversation, knowing you have at least one thing in common.

Chartered singles cruises take the work out of finding other singles because you'll travel together in a group, often with a host to organize everyone. On larger ships, the charter will connect you with other group members through planned onboard meals, gatherings and activities. On smaller vessels, the tour company might charter the entire ship, so every passenger is single.

One word of caution here: It's easy to think that meeting someone on a cruise ship takes all the inherent danger out of hanging out with strangers. You're in a confined space surrounded by lots of other people. Sounds safe, right?

While cruising is, overall, incredibly safe, crime on board can happen. Like any form of travel, it's best not to let your guard down, especially if you go off alone with someone you've just met.

Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind when seeking other singles on cruise ships is to start with an appropriate cruise line for your age and lifestyle . Here are some great singles cruises for various age groups to help you get started.

Best cruises for singles over 20

singles vacation cruises

For young singles, cruising can sometimes feel like an expensive way to meet people. To avoid the high cost of single supplements charged to solo travelers in standard cabins meant for at least two people, single cruisers can travel with friends and share a room. (Many cabins can sleep up to four.) Also, you might feel more confident heading to the ship's bars or nightclubs in a group.

Try short three- to five-night cruises on low-cost mainstream lines like Carnival , Norwegian Cruise Line or Royal Caribbean , where you'll find more young adults and more of a party scene . Singles on a budget can also save money cruising on older, smaller ships across the mainstream fleets, which typically have lower cruise fares.

Margaritaville at Sea is another good choice for quick and affordable two-night trips to the Bahamas, though you'll need to find love quickly on such a short cruise.

Twentysomethings who have a larger travel budget and wish to cruise on their own can look for cruise lines with solo cabins. These rooms for one are in limited supply, so they can be priced at a premium and sell out quickly.

Our top pick for this age group would be a short Carnival cruise from almost any U.S. departure port.

The price is right, there's plenty of onboard fun designed for this age group (great live bands, nightly karaoke, poolside games, trivia and deck parties). It's also a good way to get your feet wet when it comes to cruising as a young single. Carnival ships have many cabins that can sleep several of your besties if you choose not to go alone.

Best cruises for singles over 30

singles vacation cruises

Cruising singles in their 30s have slightly different vacation needs from their younger peers. Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are all still great choices for this age group, whether you're traveling on your own or with a group of friends.

Another cruise line that works well for young singles is Virgin Voyages , which is child-free and has rooms and activities designed for singles. Its cheeky, nontraditional vibe is a plus for thirtysomethings.

Use the tattoo you got at the onboard tattoo studio as a conversation starter, make friends at an '80s-themed workout class, or chat up your neighbor at an after-hours cabaret or at a communal table in one of the line's many complimentary restaurants.

Single parents who vacation with their youngsters might want to add Disney Cruise Line to the list. The kids can enjoy amazing supervised programming in the expansive kids club while mom or dad enjoys adult pleasures like wine tastings, fine dining and dancing — all of which could lead to meetups with other single parents on board.

A warm-climate Royal Caribbean cruise with your best buds can be an ideal option for the over-30 set. We recommend one of the line's newest and biggest ships so you have plenty of options for food, entertainment and hangouts to try. From slides and water attractions that get your heart racing to dance clubs open until the wee hours of the night, these ships have plenty to offer young singles and plenty of places to meet new friends.

Best cruises for singles over 40

singles vacation cruises

Singles in their 40s generally are ready for a little less party and a little more romance on a singles cruise. This age group won't be out of place among festive singles on board Virgin Voyages or Carnival, but Celebrity Cruises is another cruise line to consider.

The line's newer Edge Class ships have a younger, hipper ambience than their older ships. Think martini bars, foodie havens and jazz clubs, all with decor that looks nothing like your parents' cruise ships.

For those who like to gamble, try the mainstream cruise lines. The large casinos offer yet another opportunity to meet other singles on board — particularly at the table games. Margaritaville at Sea is another line to consider with plenty of gambling singles on board.

For fortysomething singles looking for onboard romance, we suggest a studio cabin for seven nights on NCL's new Norwegian Viva bound for the Caribbean . There's plenty to do on board and in port to help you meet people.

Additionally, the solo cabins, which have been redone in a more elegant style than on some of the line's older ships, provide access to the Studio Lounge for socializing. The lounge has also been revamped, giving it an upscale feel with free daily snacks and drinks. (Note that Norwegian's cabins for one sell out quickly, so you'll want to book early.)

Another great pick would be Virgin Voyages' four-night Fire and Sunset Soiree sailings from Miami on Scarlet Lady . They include stops at Key West and a private beach club on Bimini , plus a sea day to get to know your fellow passengers. The cost for a single "sailor," as Virgin calls them, starts at around $700.

Best cruises for singles over 50

singles vacation cruises

For senior singles cruises, all the previous options are still reasonable choices. However, some lines cater a bit more to this age group. The caveat is that cruise lines that cater to mature travelers are often targeted at couples, with solo travelers skewing older.

Oceania , Azamara and Holland America are tops on this list, especially on their shorter cruises that attract still-working professionals. The ships are large enough to have a mix of singles among the usual crowd of couples but small enough to provide a strong chance of actually meeting those other singles on board.

These lines offer port-intensive itineraries, so book ship tours to connect with like-minded folks on board since you likely won't spend as much time lounging around the pool.

For singles over 50, a Celebrity Cruises itinerary in the Mediterranean will likely include many other singles with whom you can mingle. Mediterranean cruises are popular with active mid-lifers looking to see more of the world. What could be more romantic than cruising the Greek Isles or the Italian coastline?

Best cruises for singles over 60

singles vacation cruises

Single retirees with the freedom to enjoy longer and often more expensive cruises have loads of options for meeting people. The list starts with premium lines like Holland America, Oceania and Cunard , but also Viking and Princess Cruises .

Single travelers in their 60s and older with a large travel budget should consider luxury cruise lines like Seabourn Cruise Line , Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Silversea Cruises . All of these cater to singles with reduced supplement charges and singles meet-and-greets.

Visit the maitre d' on the first day of your cruise to ensure you are seated at the same table or group of tables with other singles for dinner in the main dining room. Dance classes, trivia games and port tours also put you in the right place at the right time to strike up conversations with others looking to make new connections. Social hostesses on luxury lines can introduce you to other solo travelers, too.

Related: Why it's easier to meet new people on a smaller cruise ship

River cruises in Europe are another possibility for singles in this age group. River cruises are inherently social, in part because of the small size of the ships, but also because daily tours put people with shared interests in proximity during walking and bus excursions. There are also choices of specialty theme cruises for LGBTQ+ cruisers , wine lovers, golfers and ancestry seekers, all of which make it easier for singles to meet people on board.

Lines to consider include AmaWaterways , Viking River Cruises, Avalon River Cruises, Emerald Cruises and Uniworld River Cruises. River cruises also sometimes offer reduced single supplements, making them more affordable for those traveling alone.

A top pick for this age group would be an Alaska sailing on Silversea Cruises. This luxury line includes everything in one fare — even many fabulous Alaska excursions you would pay hundreds of dollars for on any other line. The ships are small enough that you can easily meet your fellow travelers, and the excursions make it easy to share experiences with other singles on board.

Bottom line

The romance of a cruise is undeniable. From dressy dinners to the moon's glow on the ocean waves, cruising can feel like a setting straight from a Hollywood film. Though not as simple as swiping right, cruising to meet other singles has appeal.

Choosing the right cruise line and activities can help you narrow your potential candidates. Looking for an outdoor adventurer? Choose active tours in port. Want to share your love of music, wine or Blackjack with someone? Pick a theme cruise focused on your passion.

If you just want to dance the night away with singles in your own age group, there's a ship for you — whether your jam is rock 'n' roll, hip hop or a classic waltz.

Also, you lose nothing by trying. Even if you don't meet the partner of your dreams, you'll enjoy a fantastic cruise vacation.

Celebrity Apex

The Celebrity Apex – which made its inaugural sailing in June 2021 – can hold up to 2,910 passengers and 1,320 crew members. Guests can wine and dine at 29 restaurants, bars and lounges, then spend the night testing their luck at the casino or enjoying live music at the Magic Carpet (which offers great ocean views). Specialty restaurants include a steakhouse and a raw bar, while main dining options feature Mediterranean, Italian and French cuisines. There are also meeting spaces and multipurpose areas on board, as well as upscale shops.

Visit the spa or adults-only Solarium pool to stay relaxed throughout your stay at sea. For younger travelers, there are some kid-friendly areas of the ship – such as a Camp at Sea. However, the ship is geared more toward adult clientele (or families with older children) looking for a relaxing escape.

The ship's staterooms, which start at 181 square feet, offer smart TVs, customizable air conditioning and plenty of storage space. Many rooms also offer private verandas. If you're willing to splurge, consider booking a room in The Retreat. This exclusive section of the ship features luxury accommodations as well as access to a private restaurant, sun deck and lounge. Plus, rooms in The Retreat offer more space, measuring up to 1,892 square feet.

The Celebrity Apex sails to European destinations like Greece, Italy, Croatia and Portugal, as well as to Caribbean hot spots like St. Thomas , Puerto Rico , Belize and Grand Cayman .

Scarlet Lady

The first ship within the Virgin Voyages fleet, the adults-only Scarlet Lady welcomes more than 2,770 passengers and 1,160 crew members. Debuted in October 2021, the Scarlet Lady boasts a collection of unique amenities not often found on cruise ships, including a tattoo studio, a record shop and a blow-dry bar. And instead of a buffet or a dining hall, the Scarlet Lady offers a collection of more than 20 specialty restaurants, all covered by the cruise fare. Standouts include Extra Virgin, a traditional Italian restaurant serving handmade pasta, and Gunbae, a Korean barbecue eatery.

The Scarlet Lady also deviates from cruise industry tradition when it comes to onboard entertainment. Instead of Broadway classics, cruisers will be treated to six original shows, along with "micro plays" that are performed throughout the ship.

Cabin sizes range from 105 to 177 square feet for the Insider rooms to nearly 2,150 square feet for the RockStar Quarters suites. The latter are outfitted with marble bathrooms and serviced by RockStar Agents who are available to assist guests 24/7. All accommodations feature mood lighting, minibars, free Wi-Fi and adjustable Seabeds, which allow travelers to transform their beds into couches when they want to entertain.

The Scarlet Lady sails to destinations in the Caribbean, like the Bahamas , from Miami .

U.S. News Insider Tip:  Use the app to book dinner reservations as far out from your sailing as you can, or 45 days out for most sailors. If you wait until closer to time or until you're on board, you will likely find that the most popular restaurants and dining times are all booked up. –  Holly Johnson, Contributor

Among the ship's standout amenities is the Sky Zone – a trampoline park that offers dodgeball and basketball games, toddler bounce sessions and more. Other unique Carnival amenities found on the ship include a suspended bicycle in the air called SkyRide, a sprawling water park, the Cloud 9 Spa and an open-air recreation area and ropes course.

Dining options on board are just as diverse. In fact, there are more than a dozen dining venues aboard Carnival Panorama, including multiple Guy Fieri eateries, a sushi restaurant, a steakhouse, a seafood eatery and more.

Oceania's Marina accommodates up to 1,250 passengers and employs 800 crew members, maintaining the personalized service that the line is known for.  Marina offers signature amenities like the Aquamar Spa, a casino and a 2,000-book library. Onboard entertainment includes nightly live shows, painting and sketching lessons at the Artist Loft and cooking demos at The Culinary Center. While Marina went through a refurbishment in 2016, the ship will have an updated renovation in late 2023.

Cruisers can choose from seven dining venues, including specialty restaurants like Jacques (with menus crafted by chef Jacques Pépin) and the Asian-inspired eatery Red Ginger, which recent passengers highly recommend.

Similar to its sister ship,  Riviera , cabins range from 174-square-foot Inside staterooms to 2,000-square-foot Suites. Higher category Veranda cabins and Suites come with perks like balconies, access to a Concierge Lounge, in-room iPads and more. All staterooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, full-size bathtubs, and minibars stocked with soda and bottled water.

More colorful than most of Holland America's fleet, Oosterdam launched in 2003 and was last updated in 2016. The 1,964-passenger ship houses 812 crew members, making the passenger-to-crew ratio roughly 2-to-1.

The ship features six stateroom categories: Inside, Ocean View, Verandah, Signature Suite, Pinnacle Suite and Neptune Suite. All accommodations are outfitted with Sealy-Premium Euro-Top mattresses, flat-screen TVs and plenty of storage space.

Like other Vista-class ships, Oosterdam   is equipped with a large pool and a sizable spa and fitness area, along with BBC Earth Experiences and sports courts. While there are kids and teens clubs for younger passengers, most of the activities and entertainment on the ship are geared toward adults.

When it's time to dine, guests can enjoy varied dishes in the main dining room, Italian fare at Canaletto or other options ranging from casual to fine dining.

Oosterdam departs from ports in  Fort Lauderdale , Buenos Aires , Rome , Athens and more. Itineraries include destinations in Europe, South America and Antarctica.

Nieuw Statendam

One of Holland America Line's newest cruise ships, Nieuw Statendam, launched in December 2018. This 2,666-passenger ship is the second in the line's contemporary Pinnacle Class collection. Like its sister ship, Koningsdam , this vessel places an emphasis on elegant, eye-catching design.

Along with its great aesthetics, Nieuw Statendam features a mix of engaging daytime and nighttime activities, as well as facilities designed to keep guests rested and relaxed. Passengers can unwind at the spa or pools, work up a sweat at the fitness center or pickleball court or participate in enriching activities like cooking demonstrations and wine-blending classes. At night, cruisers have several entertainment options, including the B.B. King's Blues Club, Rolling Stone Rock Room or the World Stage for theatrical performances.

For dining, expect a mix of options, including a traditional dining room, casual spots and specialty restaurants that feature cuisines from Asia, France and – of course – Holland. Cabin categories are just as diverse: Accommodations range from Inside and Ocean View staterooms to Verandah staterooms to spacious suites with balconies and living areas.

Holland America now features an exclusive amenities program, Club Orange. Members can receive benefits such as a complimentary stateroom upgrade, a dedicated concierge hotline and skip-the-line priority access.

Grand Princess

First launched in 1998, the 2,600-passenger Grand Princess underwent a renovation in March 2019 that added new top-deck dining venues like Alfredo's Pizzeria, Salty Dog Grill and Coffee & Cones. The recently refurbished accommodations are outfitted with amenities like flat-screen TVs and minifridges. Though only 76% of exterior cabins offer private balconies – a lower percentage than other ships in the fleet – guests describe cabins as comfortable and spacious. Plus, thanks to a nearly 2-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio (the ship features 1,150 crew members), past cruisers describe the onboard service as attentive and friendly. What's more, each guest aboard Grand Princess receives an OceanMedallion wearable device to unlock his or her stateroom, make onboard payments, track down friends and family and more.

10 Best Cruises for Singles of All Ages

From expeditions to around-the-world voyages, these sailings are perfect for solo travelers.

Elizabeth Rhodes is a special projects editor at Travel + Leisure , covering everything from luxury hotels to theme parks to must-pack travel products. Originally from South Carolina, Elizabeth moved to New York City from London, where she started her career as a travel blogger and writer.

singles vacation cruises

Traveling the world without having to pack and unpack multiple times is ideal. And on a cruise, that's a reality as you head from destination to destination on what is basically a moving luxury hotel (or a floating city, in some cases).

Being able to sleep in Bratislava and wake up in Budapest in five-star accommodations without having to drag all your stuff with you is as convenient as it is luxurious. But cruises aren't just for couples or families — they're great for singles as well.

Colleen McDaniel, the editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic , tells Travel + Leisure that cruises are a great place to meet new people. Some ships have single cabins, host parties for single passengers, or even waive the single supplement fee (river cruises tend to do that most often).

For example, Norwegian Cruise Line offers studio cabins for single travelers that include access to an exclusive lounge with complimentary espresso and snacks. "One of the benefits of sailing as a single is cruises are generally social. That's how they're designed," McDaniel says. "If you're somebody who's comfortable traveling by themselves and looks to make friends on vacation, there's no shortage of people you're going to meet."

But while younger travelers might want to hop around Europe and party every night, someone in their 50s may be interested in a longer cruise with opportunities for cultural immersion. Whatever your travel style, here are the best cruises for singles of any age.

Cruises for Singles in Their 20s

Cruises that last three to five nights are great for singles in their 20s, in part because they're less expensive, McDaniel says. If you do end up having to pay for a single supplement, "it's a little bit less of a hit to your wallet."

Cruise line Virgin Voyages offers exciting journeys aboard their ultra-instagrammable ship, Scarlet Lady . The four-night Fire and Sunset Soirees cruise from Miami is ideal for travelers in their 20s or 30s looking for a healthy mix of party and wellness.

Another great option is a three-day cruise to the Bahamas from Miami on Norwegian Sky . The ship was refurbished in 2019 and offers 10 dining options, a full-service Starbucks, and a casino for late-night bonding around the blackjack table with your new shipmates.

Cruises for Singles in Their 30s

According to McDaniel, cruisers in their 30s are likely looking for a good mix of "bustling nightlife and engaging in classes, but they also really want to explore and experience culture." She says river cruises that offer things like silent discos and paint-and-wine classes appeal to this age group.

Expedition cruise line Atlas Ocean does not charge a single supplement fee for certain staterooms on its luxury yachts, making it a great fit for solo travelers. The cruise line is known for its culturally immersive sailings, which include tours with local guides, artisanal workshops, and even drone photography classes. Consider the Folklore & Waterfalls cruise from Reykjavik to Dublin for a chance to capture jaw-dropping landscapes while meeting like-minded travelers.

Other travelers might want to opt for a South American adventure with National Geographic. The 10-day Upper Amazon river cruise aboard the Delfin II offers a chance to spot diverse wildlife within this impressive ecosystem.

Cruises for Singles in Their 40s

Upscale, bigger cruises on ships from Princess , Holland America , and Celebrity will likely appeal to cruisers in their 40s, McDaniel says. These cruises tend to be a bit more expensive, but "appeal because they have some really great excursions and might go off the beaten path. They're destination-immersive experiences."

The seven-night Galapagos Southern Loop on Celebrity Xpedition is one fantastic option. The Galapagos Islands are a great destination for solo travelers and this cruise is a solid way to see them. Search for sea turtles, sea lions, and blue-footed boobies during the day, and spend the evening in the ship's hot tub or take in one of the nightly lectures by certified naturalists from the Galapagos National Park.

A seven-day Mediterranean with Greek Isles and Turkey cruise aboard Princess Cruises' Sun Princess is an additional option for travelers hoping to see another part of the world best explored by ship.

Cruises for Singles in Their 50s

McDaniel says that a river cruise is a great option for someone in their 50s, with some lines waiving the single supplement fee and putting age restrictions on passengers (since you may not want little kids running around). Some companies, she notes, do a great job of hosting single mixers, which adds to the social experience. A cruise along the Danube or Rhine rivers is always a great choice, and there are several lines to choose from.

Sail along the Rhine, Main, and Danube rivers on Viking's Grand European Tour , which starts in Amsterdam and ends in Budapest. Along the way, the ship stops in charming towns and major European capitals for a well-rounded trip through continental Europe.

The twelve-day Cities of Light cruise , also from Viking River Cruises, carries passengers between Paris and Prague with several stops in Germany along the way. On board, sip a glass of wine and enjoy the sight of the cities slipping by.

Cruises for Single Seniors

A world cruise is a great option for seniors, McDaniel says, as they tend to have more free time. These cruises visit multiple countries over a longer period of time, and after a while, the boat feels like home.

"One of the great things about being a senior is you tend to have a far more flexible schedule," she says. "You also likely have a bit more disposable income."

The 133-day Grand Voyage Pole to Pole from Holland America Line offers a round-trip journey from Fort Lauderdale, covering Antarctica, South America, Europe, and Canada. Overnight stops include Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Lisbon, and Reykjavik, Iceland, among others.

Those looking to explore both the Eastern and Western Hemisphere might enjoy Cunard's 98-night New York to Southhampton cruise. The World Voyage aboard the Queen Anne includes stops in the Caribbean and Central America before crossing the International Date Line to Samoa, New Zealand, and Australia. The ship visits various countries in Asia, such as Vietnam and Malaysia, before heading to South Africa, Spain, and England. On a cruise this long, even the shiest solo traveler is bound to make a few friends.

CRUISES FOR SINGLES & SOLO CRUISING

Best for solo travellers - cruise critic's 2023 editors' picks awards.

The best experiences last a lifetime - solo travel is one of them. The ability to explore, take chances, meet new people and do what you want when you want. To trade stories, and cocktails, with like-minded travellers from around the world. Or to sail with a group, on your own terms. Now when you cruise solo with Norwegian, you'll enjoy more freedom and choice than ever. We've doubled the number of Solo Staterooms across our fleet by adding Solo Balcony and Oceanview rooms, in addition to Inside rooms and Studios. The best part? The savings! Traditional double occupancy rates do not apply. So come aboard with friends or family - or take time to meet new people, then watch the sunset from your private balcony. After all, you're pretty good company.

Cruises for Singles and Solo Travelers

Vacations To Go hosts more singles and helps more solo cruisers than any other company. Whether you are looking for a fun-loving group of singles to travel with or merely trying to find the lowest possible price for a solo traveler, you've come to the right place.

Every year, we offer a wide selection of fabulous itineraries in different regions of the world, on outstanding cruise ships, and negotiate an extremely low rate for our single and solo travelers. We send trained hosts from our headquarters to organize get-togethers, cocktail parties, dinner seating and more, allowing individuals or friends to travel as part of a large and fun-loving group of singles.

Our hosted singles department is open Mon-Fri 8am to 7pm, Sat-Sun 9am to 6pm, U.S. Central Time. Check out our hosted singles cruises! If you are not looking for a hosted singles cruise but still want the lowest possible rate to cruise as a single, we can help with that, too.

Cruise lines generally charge a "single supplement" to passengers traveling solo. From the cruise line's perspective, what they are selling is cabin space, and if there are two or more people in a cabin, they split the cost of that space. People traveling alone pay for all the space by themselves.

Most cruise lines start with the per-person rate based on double occupancy and add 50-100% to the price for a single. That means that a cabin that sells for $1,000 per person based on double occupancy would be sold to a single for $1,500 to $2,000.

At Vacations To Go, we're sympathetic to our single customers' desires for a great price. We've scoured tens of thousands of departures to identify and secure the lowest single supplements for our customers, including great cabins that can be reserved by our single customers with no supplement at all. Check out our cruises with a low (or no) single supplement!

Price Guarantee

All prices quoted are based on double occupancy, and are not guaranteed until full payment is received. Cabin prices are subject to availability and do sell out quickly, so reserve your cabin space early to ensure the best rates.

What about rates for the single traveler?

All prices quoted are based on double occupancy (two to a cabin). For those passengers traveling alone, we will match you up with another single roommate of the same sex and age group.

Can I upgrade my cabin?

Passengers desiring more deluxe accommodations (rooms with balconies, or even suites), are encouraged to request rates and availability from us.

How much is my deposit and when is final payment due?

Payment in full is required with all reservation and you should hold on purchasing your airfare until your a booking number from us.

What is included in my price of the cruise?

The price of your cruise includes shipboard accommodations, all meals and non-carbonated beverages such as coffee, tea and juices, 24-hour snacks, complimentary room service, nightly entertainment, dancing and onboard activities. Your price also includes private activities exclusively for our singles group, such as singles cocktail parties, games, dances, mixers, matchmaking services, etc.

Alcoholic beverages are at your own expense.

What is NOT included in the price of the cruise?

Wines, liquors and some soft drinks, optional shore excursions, tipping (at your own discretion), any personal services such as laundry, beauty parlor, etc., and transportation to and from the ship (except if you purchase airfare from the cruise line).

Am I paying more for a Singles Cruise?

Our agency has negotiated group rates with the cruise lines based on the knowledge that we will bring many singles to our cruises. These rates include lots of “extras” you will be receiving through our agency only. Keep in mind you are getting a special service and additional amenities for being part of our singles group. These additional services are not offered to the general public and can include whenever possible complimentary cabin upgrades. Cabin upgrades are of course not guaranteed, but with the tremendous volume of business we do with the cruise lines we normally get a fair share of upgrades. We will have “private” singles cocktail parties, mixers and other functions for our group during your cruise. We have special dining privileges as well as the service of our own singles cruise directors onboard….and the list goes on!

What if I have to cancel my cruise?

Refer to our cancellation policy which includes a schedule of penalties.

Forms of payment?

We can accept checks (made payable to Singles Travel Service, Inc), Visa, Master Card, American Express, and Discover Card through Pay Pal.

What are the tipping guidelines?

Tipping is always at the travelers’ discretion, and is generally done on the last night of your cruise. As a guideline, the cruise lines recommend the following gratuities: Cabin Steward-$3.00 per guest/per day; Waiter-$3.00 per guest/per day; and Busboy-$1.50 per guest/per day. A 15% gratuity will be automatically added to any bar bill.

Charge Accounts Onboard?

Most ships have a no-cash policy during the cruise. When you get on board, the cruise line will open a credit account for you. All on board purchases will be charged directly to this account (in lieu of accepting cash) and you can pay in one lump sum at the end of your cruise. You can open the account with a major credit card or if you don’t have a credit card, you can set up a cash deposit. You can pay your account at the end of the cruise by whatever means ever you wish; however, most ships do not accept personal checks.

General Cruise Questions:

Talent show night.

There is usually a Talent Show on the cruise where the passengers are the entertainment. If you have a particular talent, this is your chance to be a star!

Is smoking permitted on the ship?

Smoking is permitted on the ship in designated areas only. By popular request, dining rooms are now smoke free. You can request a smoking cabin; however, no requests are guaranteed. If we assign you to a roommate, we try to accommodate your smoking preference; however, nothing is guaranteed.

What about shore excursions?

You may purchase optional shore excursions directly with the cruise lines. Their excursions are available for purchase aboard the ship at their Shore Excursion Desk.

Is the entire ship singles?

No, the entire ship will not be single passengers. Our agency organizes a group of singles onboard the ship. Our singles groups generally tend to have anywhere from 50 to 250 singles onboard. We have a block of cabins for our group of singles and we organize “private” singles activities exclusively for our singles group such as singles cocktail parties, games, lectures, pool parties, singles nightly get-together’s, etc. We also have an exclusive area in the dining room just for our group. You will not be seated with families, kids or honeymooners! You will be seated with other singles your age with an equal number of men and women wherever possible for the first night only. The remainder of the cruise you may sit at any table in our designated area with a Singles Travel Service- SinglesCruise table tent on it. We have our own private singles cruise directors onboard who will be hosting our singles group.

How is this cruise different from a regular cruise?

On any “regular” cruise there are very few (if any) singles onboard. The few singles onboard are usually surrounded by families, couples and kids with no “central” place to meet. By booking into one of Singles Travel Service groups, you are guaranteed to travel with a large group of singles. (Usually 150 to 400 singles on each cruise).

There are organized activities or events daily exclusively for our singles. This includes “private” singles cocktail parties, singles games, pool parties, etc., etc.  Each night we will deliver to your cabin a list of our singles activities for the next day. These activities are NOT open to the public! They are solely for our single clients. We also have a separate area of the dining room just for our group where we allow our singles to switch tables each night except the first night which will have assigned seating with others in your age group and an equal number of men and women wherever possible. This is a great way to meet new friends!

Who will you find sailing with us on our “singles” cruises?

There is no “typical” guest on our “singles” cruises. Our cruises are for anyone who wants to have the most fun possible. Most are single professionals – age ranging from mid-20’s to late 50’s ( some younger/some older ). We advertise with various “singles” organizations around the country, so our guests come from every state in the union. Our guests include first-time cruisers and many returning guests who sail with us every year – from students, secretaries, teachers, lawyers, doctors, athlete s. ..basically people from every trade and profession.

Ratio of Men to Women

We strive to offer a balanced booking policy in order to ensure an equal number of male and female guests; however this does not always work out and we could end up out of balance.

I’m Traveling Alone

For those passengers traveling alone, we can match you to a roommate of the same sex/age group at no additional cost. We try and match singles who we feel might be compatible by age, region of the country, smoking preferences, etc. We offer roommate matching as a courtesy so you can take advantage of the lower double occupancy price; however, we accept no responsibility for compatibility. We do not disclose roommate information. We can also provide rates on single occupancy cabins if you wish to have a private cabin. If we’re matching singles, the cabin will be based on double occupancy only. We do match our singles into full-size cabins with two beds (not the closet size cabins with bunk beds). A single supplement will apply, for the last one booked, should an uneven number of singles need a roommate.

How big is the ship?

Typically ship have between 1,500 to 23,000 passengers and crew.

Will I Get Seasick?

Because of the large size of today’s cruise ships, very few people ever experience seasickness. In our experience, only a few people have ever gotten seasick on a cruise ship and that was because of very stormy weather and choppy waters. If you are afraid you might be prone to seasickness, there are many over-the-counter medications available. If you forget to bring your own, these medications are also available onboard the ship.

Pre-Cruise Preparation Questions

What type of clothing should i pack.

Casual attire is in order during the day. Shorts and t-shirts are not permitted in the dining room during dinner. There is generally one to two “formal” dress-up nights depending on the length of your cruise, where passengers wear anything from cocktail party dresses, evening gowns and tuxedos, to business suit attire. (Tuxedo rentals available onboard the ship if you want to get really dressed up.) The dress code for the other evenings range anywhere from sport coat and tie to casual resort wear.

Final Cruise Documents?

Once final payment is made, the cruise line will issue your cruise travel documents. These documents are generally issued 14 days prior to sailing, and they will be sent to you at that time. Your actual cabin number will be assigned and printed on your cruise documents, as well as your dining room seating. If airfare was purchased, it will also be included with your final documents. Along with your cruise documents there will be lots of useful information regarding your upcoming cruise.

What travel requirements and forms of identification are needed?

Due to heightened security at check-in, the cruise lines want to remind everyone that valid proof of citizenship is required for boarding. Anyone without proof of citizenship will be denied boarding and no refund given. A driver’s license is NOT proof of citizenship. Acceptable documentation is a passport (valid or expired for less than 10 yrs), original or certified birth certificate with photo i. d. , military i. d. and/or original naturalization papers . Photocopies of documents are NOT acceptable. If you are not an American citizen, be sure that you are carrying proper documents for the countries that you’ll be visiting.

When can I board the ship?

Embarkation normally begins at 1:00 p.m., and passengers must be aboard no later than 30 minutes before the scheduled sailing. Be sure to arrive early to get situated in your cabin and let the PARTYING begin!

What about dining room reservations?

We generally reserve late dining (approx. 8 pm for dinner) for our entire singles groups. We do schedule our other singles activities around this time (e.g., singles cocktail parties before dinner).

Our agency has a separate area of the dining room just for our singles (no families/no kids). We will put you on a dinner table with other singles your age. We work closely with the maitre ‘d onboard each ship who allows our group to switch tables each night. This allows our singles the ability to meet new friends each night. This is a special service offered to our singles group only.

Can I book with my local travel agent and still join your singles group activities?

No. If you want to be part of our singles group, you do need to book the cruise through our agency. . The singles activities are not conducted by other agencies or by the cruise line. Our agency hires our own private singles cruise directors to go onboard with the group and we plan private activities exclusively for our group. We have nightly get-together’s, complimentary cocktail parties, private pool parties, etc. You will receive an “official” singles itinerary with your cruise documents stating the time/places of our activities/events. We also arrange “round robin” seating with the maitre ‘d where our group is allowed to switch tables each night in order to meet new singles within our group. We do have an exclusive area of the dining room just for our singles (no families/kids). All of these extra amenities/activities are exclusive to our singles group.

Sail solo on Virgin Voyages, one of the best cruise lines for single adults.

Single or just need some alone time welcome aboard….

Single? Can’t find that special someone, or can’t seem to wrangle a friend to travel with you? Good! To us, cruising solo isn’t something you do because you’ve run out of other options — it’s actually Plan A. Our voyages cater to singles, with a host of onboard entertainment options designed to help you meet other Sailors. And since we’re an adults-only cruise line, it’s perfect for single solo travelers who want to disconnect from their daily routine and connect with other like-minded Sailors over DJ tunes at our nightclub, drinking games in our Korean BBQ restaurant, group fitness classes, and events like our shipwide bar crawl. Here’s why Virgin Voyages is one of the best singles cruises for solo Sailors looking for the ultimate adult getaway.

Finding the best cruises for singles & solo travelers

It might sound easier to plan a solo cruise than one with a bunch of friends , because you don’t need input from six other people. It’s just you. That doesn’t mean, however, that you shouldn’t plan ahead. From browsing the ideal solo traveler destinations to joining a singles cruise community online, and making sure you take advantage of our solo cabins, these are a few singles cruise tips to keep in mind before you book .

Browse Our Beach Getaways

Deciding what ports to visit is the first step of booking a solo cruise, and it probably comes as no surprise that it’s tough to beat a beach destination. Our Caribbean cruises are perfect for single and solo travelers, with plenty of opportunities to catch some rays, show off that tan, and connect with fellow Sailors at a margarita bar. You’ll especially want to make sure to visit Bimini, our exclusive beach club in the Bahamas, where you can vibe to DJ beats, indulge in snacks, and chill on our private beach.

Sign up for our Sail & Save email alert

To get the best deals on our singles cruises, join our Sailor community and sign up for our Sail & Save email alert. You’ll be able to score last-minute vacations deals starting as low as $99 per Sailor per night.

Join Singles Travel Communities Online

Beyond the Virgin Voyages Sailor network, there are plenty of singles cruise communities online that you can join to build friendships with other solo Sailors. These communities, usually found on Facebook, are great resources for getting curated lists of the best singles cruises for women , and men, and tips on how to make the most of them.

Activities & Events to Meet People on a Cruise

Singles cruises aren’t just about romance and hook up culture. They’re about making meaningful connections and memories with other Sailors, whether it’s dancing at The Manor, winning big at the Casino , sharing world-class cuisine at one of our onboard eateries , or enjoying one of our signature shows with a new friend. Our dedicated singles events also create an organic, stress-free way to meet other solo Sailors.

Virgin Voyage Mobile App

It all starts here. Our mobile app is designed to allow Sailors to easily book onboard events , as well as connect remotely with other Sailors .

Singles Meetup & Events

In addition to our regular calendar of shipwide social events, we also offer meetups designed specifically for single Sailors, like cocktail hours and pub crawls .

Communal Dining

On Virgin Voyages, sailing solo doesn’t mean dining solo. Our innovative Korean BBQ restaurant, Gunbae, is famous for its communal dining concept. Indulge not only in delicious Korean cuisine, but also fun drinking games with new friends.

Entertainment & Casino

Some of our onboard special events are perfect for single and solo travelers looking to cut loose and have a blast with their fellow Sailors, as well as for taking selfies while on your cruise . Our PJ Party, pub crawl, and Scarlet Night are great opportunities to relax your inhibitions and meet new people . Our Casino is also an ideal option for bonding with the Sailor next to you over shared success or failure.

Group Fitness Classes

Mixing and mingling with other Sailors doesn’t only happen at bars and restaurants. It can also happen during our group fitness classes, perfect for connecting Sailors who share a love of health and wellness .

Take a Tour

The social environment doesn’t evaporate once you leave the ship, either. Arguably, our Shore Things are the best way to connect with other Sailors. Taking a group tour gives you the opportunity to explore a new destination with other travelers – whether or not they’re solo – and have a shared experience you can bring back to the ship.

Singles & solo travelers love Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages might not be an exclusively singles cruise, but as an adult-only cruise line, we pride ourselves on catering to the needs of our solo Sailors looking to forge connections in a mature environment. That’s evident in several aspects of the ship, from our bar and restaurant atmosphere to our entertainment options to our cabin mood lighting. We’re pleased to say – Sailors seem to agree. Many have left rave solo cruising reviews online lauding the singles cruise experience, speaking fondly of memorable moments created onboard and the people they still keep in touch with. Indeed, many singles love traveling with us so much, they even return for second, third, and fourth voyages.

Plan & book your singles cruise for solo travelers

On Virgin Voyages, “solo” doesn’t mean “alone,” and “single,” doesn’t mean “lonely”. We pride ourselves on being one of the top cruises for solo and single Sailors . Rather than fly to a destination by yourself and truly go at it alone, why not book a cruise filled with other like minded travelers, give yourself the chance to meet new people, and make the journey as fun as the destination itself? Even if you’re sailing solo, you’re not sailing alone. We’re here to make voyaging as seamless as possible, so don’t hesitate to contact our Sailor Services team if you need any assistance booking your cruise cabin, flights, or hotel .

Best Cruise Lines for Adults for 2024

singles vacation cruises

  • Cruises and Sailing

Going on a cruise is one of the best ways to travel because you have everything you need at your fingertips. With a cruise, you’re surrounded by restaurants, amenities, and a staff to cater to your every need. Plus, the ship acts as your transportation to deliver you to the next destination — and you don’t have to do any of the work! In short, cruising is vacationing done easy.

When you choose cruise lines for adults , you can rest assured that vacation is tailored to a mature audience, whether that means more exciting nightlife, no need for childcare, or fewer kids at the pool. Or maybe it just means you don’t have to bring your kids along! While not every cruise line we’ve outlined here is truly child-free, they’re all geared toward the mature crowd. Ahead, find out the best cruise lines for adults and then check out the best cruise lines in the world (and don’t forget to pack accordingly !).

How We Chose the Best Cruise Lines for Adults

We looked at several factors when considering the best cruise lines for adults, including reviews from customers and other travel professionals, amenities on board the ships, the price of the vacation, and everything else the brands have to offer. We weighed each of these against each other to determine the best cruise lines, and while not every one of them is for adults only, each of them caters to an older demographic.

Our Picks for the Best Cruise Lines for Adults

  • Best for Overall: Viking Cruises

Best for Couples: Virgin Voyages

  • Best Excursions: Azamara
  • Best for Relaxation: Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Best Budget Option: Celebrity Cruises

Best overall: viking cruises.

About Viking Cruises

Viking Cruises has a lot to offer passengers — with sailings on rivers and oceans and even expeditions to far-flung locations. Viking Cruises sails all seven continents, with trips starting at seven nights and lasting up to 180. The company focuses on the destination but doesn’t skimp on the journey to get there, and customers will find plenty to do ( and eat !) on board the ships while traveling to the destinations. Cruises start at $1,999 and reach upwards of $80,000 for the 180-day Viking World Voyage. Viking Cruises has some of the pricier cruises, but the experiences on offer will make the price worth it.

Why We Like It

Viking Cruises offer some of the most unique experiences — from a submarine excursion to a romantic trip down the Danube. It’s a well-rounded cruise line that sails both rivers and oceans all over the world and offers experiences unlike what you’ll find on any other cruise line. This company truly focuses on enrichment and opening passengers’ eyes to new experiences. Plus, your cruise fare on an ocean cruise covers an excursion in each port — because Viking wants passengers to get out and explore the destinations. This cruise line is for adventurers who have time (and money) and who want to learn about the world.

Scarlet lady Virgin Voyages Cruise Ship

About Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages are totally child-free on its three ships, with another coming in 2025. The relatively new cruise line, which first launched in 2021, sails around the Caribbean, Europe, and North America. Passengers can find great deals on board Virgin Voyages, with prices starting as low as $800 per cabin for a three-night European cruise. Sailings range from just a few nights to over two weeks, so you’ll find a little bit of everything.

When you’re looking to escape the kids at home — or just kids in general — and have a getaway with your partner, do it with Virgin Voyages. The cruise line is adults only and is all about having fun. With this cruise line, you’ll find plenty of things to do with your partner, whether it’s enjoying an evening show, taking a trip to the spa, lounging by the pool, enjoying dinner in one of the many restaurants, or dancing the night away in the club on board. Once you set sail on one of Virgin Voyages’ cruises, there’s a good chance you’ll come back again and again

Best for Excursions: Azamara

Woman on a boat watching the sea

About Azamara

Azamara has four small cruise ships and specializes in world travel. Though this cruise line offers your typical shorter cruises, it also offers the World Voyage each year, which lasts for 155 nights and travels to 37 countries. While that unique trip starts at $88,000 for an interior stateroom, a regular cruise can cost as low as $1,100 per person (for a double occupancy room). Azamara also isn’t specifically adults-only, but is a luxury cruise line that caters to the older crowd (and has a smaller capacity), so it has a bit of a slower pace and high-end feel while on board.

The Azamara cruise line can truly take you nearly anywhere in the world and bring you to once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Whether you’re sailing around Africa, South America, Europe, or Asia, you can try any number of activities while on your trip. Sailings range anywhere from five days to over 100 days, and while vacations (and the excursions) can run a steep price tag, the ships are luxurious and small and are taking passengers to some places that they may never have otherwise traveled to. If you’re looking for a well-rounded trip that has a little bit of everything all in one go, this cruise has it.

Best for Relaxation: Regent Seven Seas Cruises

White Regent Cruise Ship

About Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises has six luxurious ships to choose from, and no detail was missed when building them. Beautifully decorated, each ship will have you feeling like a million bucks from the moment you step on board. Cruises go all over the world, so you have your pick of where you’d like to go. Prices start at $3,600 for an all-inclusive two-passenger cruise for seven nights. The most luxurious trip on offer right now is the 168-night around-the-world trip for $100,000. The all-inclusive two-passenger cruise goes through South America, the Arctic, Australia, Asia, and more.

If you’re looking for a cruise that’ll have you in the lap of luxury, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is it. Once you pay for your all-inclusive cruise, everything is taken care of. Your cruise fare includes your flight to and from the port, airport transfer, excursions, on-board restaurants and drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, and so much more. All you have to do is show up and enjoy it. This vacation comes with a high price tag, but you pay one time, and then you get to sit back and relax.

Large Blue and white Celebrity cruise ship in the water

About Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises, which is based in Miami, has more than a dozen ships to choose from and sails all over the world with more than 300 ports of call. Sailings range anywhere from three days to two weeks, with prices as low as $200 to upwards of $16,000. Ship sizes vary greatly, with the largest ship carrying over 3,000 passengers and the smallest boat holding under 100. Amenities on board range from spas to restaurants, pools to workout facilities (though they vary by ship).

Going on a cruise doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank. With Celebrity Cruises, you can take a quick three-day cruise for as little as $200 per person and have the escape you need. There are plenty of jaunts from South Florida to Key West and the Bahamas — but you can also sail farther and longer if that’s what you choose. Either way, you can certainly find a deal with Celebrity Cruises, as the company is also always offering deals, including discounts for additional passengers, restaurant coupons, and more.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Cruise Line for Adults

How you want to spend your time.

A cruise ship is essentially a floating city — and it has a little bit of everything on board. But not every boat is created equal. Consider how you want to spend your time on board before you pick a cruise line. Do you want to spend your time exercising, relaxing, swimming, or in the spa? Look for a cruise line that has the amenities that suit your needs properly.

What Is Your Budget?

When booking any vacation, you always want to consider your budget. Cruise lines will vary in price, so consider how much you’re willing to spend, the length of the cruise, the type of stateroom you can afford, and the destinations within your budget while considering where you’ll go.

Your Cruising Style

In addition to considering what you want to do and how much you’re spending, think about the type of cruise you want to take. Is this a romantic cruise, an adventure cruise, a relaxing cruise, etc.? Look for a cruise line that can meet those specific needs.

What Cruise Line Is the Best for Adults?

Viking Cruises is the best overall cruise line for adults. It offers tons of international sailing destinations and top-notch service on board. It also offers unique experiences while you’re traveling.

Which Cruise Line Has the Highest Rating?

All of the cruise lines we listed have high ratings from customers and other professional reviewers. We chose Viking Cruises as the best overall cruise line because it has excellent customer ratings and comes highly recommended.

What Is an Adults-Only Cruise?

Some cruise lines have an age limit, which means no one under 18 is allowed on board. These cruises are designed for adults only and cater to a certain crowd. This means you won’t have any children on board during your cruise.

"The ships are jam-packed with fun activities that you can easily do solo (like go-karts and a virtual reality arcade)," Linnett says. "Norwegian's staff are the most wonderful, kindest people, and will actively chat and engage with you if they see you're alone as well, which felt incredibly welcoming."

They also offer studio staterooms for solo travelers, helping you avoid that pesky single supplement fee.

"Nobody should be penalized for traveling solo, and Norwegian Cruise Lines agrees," travel advisor Emily (@embarkwithemily) writes in the caption of an Oct. 2023 TikTok , noting that studio interior staterooms are available on seven of the line's ships.

"It includes basic accommodations plus access to their Solo Studio Lounge where they host parties and meet & mingles with other solo travelers," Emily writes. "The best part is that Solo Studio cabins qualify for two of NCL's perks, which includes: the beverage package, night of specialty dining, wifi minutes and shore excursion discounts."

We reported earlier that the US will soon announce more than $2.3bn in new security assistance for Ukraine (see post at 4.16pm).

Defence secretary Lloyd Austin made the announcement during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart at the Pentagon.

Now, we can bring you more information on this.

During the meeting, Mr Austin said the latest weapons package for Ukraine would include arms such as anti-tank weapons and air defence interceptors, and would allow accelerated procurement of NASAMS and Patriot air defence interceptors.

Ukrainian defence minister Rustem Umerov said: "I am proud that the US will soon announce more than $2.3bn in new security assistance for Ukraine.

"This package, under presidential drawdown authority, will provide more air defence interceptors, anti-tank weapons and other critical munitions from the US inventories."

During the meeting with Mr Austin, the Ukrainian official also said Ukraine was looking forward to becoming a member of NATO.

UN human rights experts say Russia violated international law by imprisoning Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and should release him "immediately".

The Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, made up of independent experts convened by the UN's top human rights body, said there was a "striking lack of any factual or legal substantiation" for spying charges levelled against Mr Gershkovich.

The five-member group said Mr Gershkovich's US nationality has been a factor in his detention, and as a result the case against him was "discriminatory".

"The Working Group finds that Mr Gershkovich's deprivation of liberty constitutes a violation of international law on the grounds of discrimination based on his nationality," the group said in a decision that was taken in March but made public only today.

Matthew Gillett, the working group's chairman, said its opinion was grounded in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which was adopted in 1966 and nearly all UN member countries have ratified.

Mr Gillett said Russia should provide Mr Gershkovich with "proper reparations" for holding him for over a year in detention without a legitimate basis.

Sanctions imposed against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine have failed to achieve any of their aims, the country's ambassador has told Sky News.

Andrei Kelin was speaking to Sky News as an investigation by Sky's Ed Conway revealed glaring loopholes in the restrictions regime, which has allowed British companies - legally - to help keep Russian gas flowing and generate huge revenues for the Kremlin's war machine.

He defended the continued trade with Europe despite the heightened tensions, arguing "business is pure business".

He also argued the supply of weapons by the West, including Britain, to Ukraine was "bad", as it perpetuated the conflict, which he claimed would be worse for Kyiv in the long term.

Speaking to  The World With Yalda Hakim  programme, Mr Kelin said: "The goal of the sanctions was first of all to spoil [the] normal life of Russians so they will say that [Vladimir] Putin is wrong.

"The second point of sanctions was to damage the Russian economy as much as possible.

"The third point was to change the political personnel.

"So none of these goals have been reached by the sanctions."

US secretary of state Antony Blinken and the Ukrainian president's chief of staff Andriy Yermak have discussed NATO members' intention to bring Ukraine closer to the alliance.

Mr Blinken has said Ukraine will become a member of NATO and that the summit will "help build a bridge" to that outcome, state department deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel said.

"They spoke about a number of issues, including the upcoming Washington NATO summit and allies' intention to bring Ukraine closer to NATO membership and helping to strengthen Ukraine's ability to defend against Russian aggression," Mr Patel told reporters.

Their meeting in Washington comes before a NATO summit in the US capital next week, at which Ukraine hopes to secure more assurances from the alliance on its membership bid.

Apartment buildings have been left destroyed in the rural settlement of Toshkivka, in the eastern Luhansk region, amid fierce fighting in the region.

Luhansk - along with the Donetsk area - forms part of the Donbas region.

The region is one which Russia is trying to seize.

Lithuania's foreign ministry has made a diplomatic protest to Russia after a Russian civilian aircraft entered its airspace without permission.

The Pobeda airline aircraft entered Lithuanian airspace over the Baltic sea for a minute on Sunday evening, on its way from Moscow Vnukovo airport to Kaliningrad airport, the ministry said.

Lithuania, neighbour to both Russia and its ally Belarus, was once ruled from Moscow but is now a member of NATO and the EU.

The country has shown its backing for Ukraine during the war and provided military support to the country.

Belarus will not allow any clashes on the border with Ukraine, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has said according to the country's state-run Belta news agency.

"I guarantee you that we will not allow any clashes on the border with Ukraine. There won't be any," Mr Lukashenko said.

Last week, Belarus announced that it had deployed additional air defence forces to its border with Ukraine to protect "critical infrastructure facilities" due to increased Ukrainian drone activity in the area.

President Lukashenko, who has been the head of state of Belarus since 1994, is a longstanding ally of Mr Putin.

At the onset of Russia's invasion, Belarus provided logistical support for Russia, with Russian forces entering Ukraine from Belarusian territory.

But Mr Lukashenko has not sent any troops.

Two women have been killed after Russian attacks on the central Ukrainian city of Nikopol.

Regional governor Serhiy Lysak said on Telegram  the women were aged 61 and 86.

Another nine people were wounded.

"There is a lot of destruction in the district centre," he said.

"Local housing, educational institutions and a dispensary were damaged. Shops, beauty salons and cars were also affected."

Nikopol has been subjected to aerial attacks since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.

Russia denies targeting civilians or civilian infrastructure.

US defence secretary Lloyd Austin has said Washington will soon announce an additional £1.8bn in security assistance for Ukraine.

The package will include anti-tank weapons, interceptors and munitions for Patriot and other air defence systems.

It marks a strong response to pleas from Kyiv for help in battling Russian forces in the eastern Donetsk region.

On Sunday, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia had dropped more than 800 powerful glide bombs in Ukraine in the last week alone.

He urged national leaders to relax restrictions on the use of Western weapons to strike military targets inside Russia, adding that Ukraine needed the "necessary means to destroy the carriers of these bombs, including Russian combat aircraft, wherever they are".

Vladimir Putin will hold meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tomorrow during a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Kazakhstan's capital Astana, Russian state news agency TASS reports.

Mr Putin last met Mr Xi in May when he visited China on his first foreign trip after being inaugurated for a fifth term as Russian president.

The SCO is a Eurasian political, economic, international security and defence organisation established by China and Russia in 2001.

The other full members are India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Turkey, though not a member, often takes part in its meetings as a "dialogue partner".
