We booked this with very little research on a recommended from a friend. If you stop here, atleast read these few tips: 1.) Bring layers or even a blanket. 2.) Bring snacks and beverages. 3.) Plan to spend some time in Gills rock, there are little shops, restaurants, and an ice cream place. Our captain was Robbo and the crew for the day was Bunny. Kids 12 and under were half price (bonus), and as my 12 year old said, "it.was.awesome!". They had a great knowledge of Door County and local shipwrecks. The captain was also a diver so was able to tell us about what the shipwrecks looked like from the bottom of the water. The took us to Plum Island to give a very thorough history of Deaths Door Passage, the ships that travel through it, and the lighthouses. We also drove around Pilot Island, to learn about its past and current state (which was bizarre). You could tell they really cared about the area and wanted to pass their knowledge on to us. Before leaving it was a nice warm day in door county, by the time we got out on the water we found ourselves putting on all our layers, so pack accordingly. The crew encouraged food and beverages, which we regretted not bringing. Tips are appreciated!
It was a great day for sailing on Lake Michigan and the staff at Shoreline made the cruise even more enjoyable. Reservations can be made over the phone or online. The cost is $39 for adults and you can sign up for the cruise on the day or evening that you want to travel. The boat is an old Navy vessel from the 1980's and is well maintained and safe. There are life jackets under the seats and a small bathroom. It would have been nice if the crew had served cold water and soft drinks. When on the cruise you will see 3 lighthouses and a few shipwrecks. The captain and one crew member will keep you entertained with local history and they do a very good job. The cruise lasts for 2 hours and it is worth your time and money.
Nice cruise. Very friendly staff. We were able to see two shipwrecks and two lighthouses. I recommend this cruise.
During my first trip up to Door County from Chicago, my boyfriend and I stumbled across Shoreline Charters' sunset cruise. It seemed like a relaxing way to spend a few hours, and it completely exceeded our expectations. With a group of about 10, the boat cruised around Green Bay, pointing out some interesting sights while also leaving plenty of time to relax and just enjoy the sunset. Capt. Gaydean and David were knowledgeable and comfortable, and gave just enough information about the area and its history without droning on. We were also encouraged to bring our own snacks and drinks, which was a nice touch. We sailed from Sister Bay, and I highly recommend checking it out. The sunset cruise is not appropriate for kids, but they have plenty of other cruises that may fit your family's needs.

Door County Maritime Museum
The Door County Maritime Museum showcases the area’s rich maritime roots. Hard-working anglers, brave ship captains, skilled craftsmen, bold inventors and lonely lighthouse keepers are just some of the personalities you’ll discover in the galleries of the museum. The landmark 118-foot Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower is the tallest building in two counties and the fifth tallest structure in Northeast Wisconsin, affording incredible views of the working waterfront of Sturgeon Bay and a vista out to the bay of Green Bay. Exhibits within the Tower use state-of-the-art interactives designed to capture the imagination and immerse visitors into Door Counties rich nautical heritage.
Crossroads at Big Creek is a 200-acre nature preserve and learning center located on the east side of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. With distinct ecosystems of woodlands, prairies and wetlands, it is a pure pleasure to peacefully explore the gentle topography while taking in the diverse flora and fauna via the many miles of hiking trails. The mission of Crossroads is to inspire environmental stewardship in learners of all ages and from all backgrounds through education, research, land restoration and outdoor experiences.
Also located at Crossroads is the Door County Heritage Village . The village consists of 8 buildings from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. These buildings were gems located around the county, moved to this location and beautifully restored to serve as a reminder of our collective past. The inspiration to create the village came from eighth grade students who upon returning from a field trip to a pioneer village in Upper Michigan, spurred a movement for Door County to create its own pioneer village. It’s a delightful place to take a look around and set your imagination free, go ahead and be open and curious like an eighth grader again!

Shoreline Scenic Cruises Leaves Sister Bay for Baileys Harbor
By Jackson Parr , Peninsula Pulse – November 18th, 2016
Shoreline Scenic Cruises and Charters will move its 40-foot Water Taxi from Sister Bay to Baileys Harbor after uncertainty at the Sister Bay marina prompted Captain Jim Robinson to find a more reliable place to do business.
“Sister Bay sort of surprised us,” said Robinson, who withdrew his proposal to operate at the marina after 10 years of being located in Sister Bay. “We had to sort of protect ourselves and Baileys Harbor was very welcoming.”
Robinson sold the water taxi to Geoff Cronk, who will continue to operate at the Baileys Harbor marina with Shoreline Scenic Cruises and Charters. Cronk has operated the boat out of Sister Bay for more than four years and served as part owner of the operation. Robinson will continue to operate a boat out of Gills Rock.
“As far as customers and consumers, they won’t notice a difference,” said Robinson. “I’ll still be running the boat in Gills Rock but that’s not as demanding as the water taxi.”
Robinson said he is protecting himself from the uncertainty at the changing Sister Bay marina. Last year, the marina wiped the slate clean and requested new proposals from any boat operator that wished to locate in Sister Bay. The village received five proposals before Robinson withdrew.
“I had repeatedly asked starting last spring if there would be any changes and was told… everything was fine and they did not plan on making any changes. With advertising deadlines looming and no clear direction on what they were going to do regarding adding additional vendors, parking, dock location, office needs, etc., we started looking for other options to protect our business,” said Robinson.
He also cited the village’s interest in a proposal from Eric Lundquist, owner of Sister Bay Boat Rentals and Fish Creek Scenic Boat Tours, who claimed to triple Robinson’s customer count with a larger boat.
Robinson said the village has received no complaints of service while rejecting the idea that bigger is better.
In the end, Robinson chose to leave Sister Bay while the marina continues determining the types of vendors that will operate there.
“[Baileys Harbor] welcomed us and the dock master said he’s looking forward to having us,” said Robinson. “With lighthouse cruises this gives us more opportunity. Cana Island, birdcage lighthouse, the range lights. Running out of Sister Bay you can only see one.”
“This will give me an opportunity to slow my life down a little,” said Robinson. “We appreciate the cooperation of Baileys Harbor.”
