Since Riverdance first emerged onto the world stage, its fusion of Irish and international dance and music has captured the hearts of millions worldwide. The Grammy award-winning music and the infectious energy of its mesmerising choreography and breathtaking performances has left audiences in awe and established Riverdance as a global cultural sensation. To celebrate this incredible 30th year milestone, Riverdance will embark on a special anniversary tour in 2025, bringing its magic to audiences around the world. Celebrating over three decades of rhythmic magic, ‘Riverdance 30: The New Generation' is embarking on a special anniversary tour across the UK in 2025 to celebrate 30 years of spectacular performances.

This tour is set to be a reinvigorated return to the stage with state-of-the-art production enhancements, including all-new choreography, lighting, projection, and stage designs, as well as fresh costume designs by Joan Bergin .

Composer Bill Whelan has revisited the score, offering a re-recorded soundtrack that complements the modernized performance perfectly.

The tour promises to not only revisit the roots of traditional Irish dance but also to celebrate its global cultural impact, weaving a tapestry of international music and dance that has captivated audiences for decades.

From its inception to its 30th year,  Riverdance continues to enchant with its unique blend of music, dance, and visual artistry. Witness this cultural legacy firsthand as ‘Riverdance 30' travels across the UK, celebrating the past, present, and future of this extraordinary show.

Riverdance adds new dates to 25th anniversary tour

The brand new show will now visit 25 venues throughout the UK in 2021.

Riverdance: New 25th Anniversary Show will tour across the UK in 2021, following earlier news that the 2020 dates would be postponed. All tickets remain valid for the new dates.

The brand new show will tour the UK, now visiting 27 venues – including Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre, Newcastle’s Utilita Arena and London’s Eventim Apollo – from 27 August to 14 December 2021.

The newly added dates will see additional shows taking place in Birmingham, Cardiff, York, Glasgow, Oxford, Liverpool and Plymouth. There will now also be performances at Manchester’s Palace Theatre from 15 – 16 November 2021 and at Bournemouth’s BIC Windsor Hall from 10 – 11 December 2021.

Promising powerful, passionate and unforgettable Irish dancing, Riverdance’s new show is set to be a stirring reinvention of the beloved family favourite. Known for its Grammy-winning music, composer Bill Whelan has re-recorded his mesmerising soundtrack. Plus, producer Moya Doherty and director John McColgan have completely re-imagined the ground-breaking production.

The 25th anniversary show will catapult Riverdance into the 21st century. Along with innovative lighting and projection as well as spectacular staging and costume design, audiences will be completely immersed in the elemental power of its music and dance.

Riverdance was first performed during an interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest at the Point Theatre in Dublin. Not only did it earn a standing ovation from the packed crowd of 4,000 people, but it also was transmitted to a viewing audience of over 300 million people worldwide. The following year, Riverdance: The Show opened at the Point Theatre for a five-week, sold-out run. Since then Riverdance has been seen by over 30 million spectators in more than 47 different countries.

As it celebrates its 25th year, both new and devoted fans of all ages are sure to fall for the magic of Riverdance – the original, at its best.

So you want to go see that metalcore band you love but none of your friends like that “shouty” music? Or you REALLY want to go check out that new artist on TikTok you discovered but all your mates won’t go to a gig where they only know one song? Or worse, your group of friends cannot get themselves organized and work out which show and when to go on a tour, so you’re worried you’ll miss out on tickets. Let them be miserable and start living your best life by going to concerts by yourself. Trust us, it’ll be the best thing you’ll ever do!

Going to gigs alone can be daunting. What am I going to do with myself in between sets? Are people going to think I’m weird? Why would I not want to share the experience?

Listen, we are all for sharing the experience, but sometimes it’s either missing out or going alone, and in those cases we definitely recommend going alone. Here’s a few reasons why you’ll never regret it once you build up the courage to go through with it.

1 . See artists you really REALLY want to see

Imagine the FOMO of missing your favourite band on their new tour, hearing all those new songs live, seeing everyone post about it. Don’t let that happen, and get that ticket. Plus you then get to tell the pals who didn’t want to come how you saw that band or artist before they blew up or how they played that one B-side track that everyone loves – now who has FOMO?

2. Meet new friends

It’s no secret that music brings people together. That moment when everyone’s favourite ballad hits and there’s not a dry eye in the building, you turn to your left or right and suddenly you bond with a stranger over your favourite song. For the metalheads, we also recommend mosh pits, follow the rules of the pit but what a way to make new friends!

3. The freedom

Now hear us out – but going to a gig alone means you can get to the venue when you want, you can go to the loos when you want, you can stand in line at the merch for hours and no one will ask if you’re sure you want to wait. And no one will drag you home when you want to wait after the show has finished and find every piece of confetti or ask for the setlist.

4 . It’s a cult

You are not alone in going to gigs by yourself, you’d probably be surprised by how many people do the same thing. Some fan groups even have entire sub cultures of going to gigs alone (shoutout to Frank Turner’s solo armada, we see you!) – bringing us back to reason #2, new friends.

5. Confidence boost

Going to a gig by yourself will do wonders for your confidence. Sure the first time might feel a bit awkward and weird, but isn’t it always? Remember your first day of school? And then it was kind of okay after a while (let’s ignore our teenage years…) Once you’ve done it and experience all of the divinity of a solo gig you’ll feel free as a bird.

6. Experience the music your way

Whether you love hanging out by the bar, need to be front row, prefer seats or want to leave a bit earlier to catch the last train – the world is your oyster! The experience is yours, you don’t need to coordinate with someone else, rely on them to enjoy the show as much as you are and have as much of a good time as you are. And frankly, if you took a chance on a new genre or new artist and it isn’t your vibe, you can just go home. Glorious.

So there you have it – doesn’t sound too bad now does it?! At the end of the day it all comes down to you and your artist, a concert will always be a shared experience whether with strangers or friends. The most important thing to do is have fun.

For most concerts and shows, the curfew time is 23:00. However, this may vary.

Most shows allow attendees aged 16 and over, or 14 and over when accompanied by an adult. Concerts who operate different rules will usually state it on the event page.

Riverdance announces UK tour to mark 30th anniversary including Blackpool date

T he Riverdance troupe, which “has transformed from a spectacle into a global cultural phenomenon”, has announced it will tour 30 UK venues next year to celebrate a milestone anniversary.

For the 30th anniversary, Riverdance also welcomes a new generation of performers who were not born when the show began. Kicking off at Swansea Arena on August 12 2025, the troupe will perform three nights at the venue before heading to towns and cities including Blackpool , Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow, amongst others.

The tour will end at London’s Hammersmith Apollo from December 9 to 14. The group, which has its roots in Irish dancing, rose to become a headline act after being featured during the interval of the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin.

American dancers Michael Flatley and Jean Butler were among the original performers who captured the audience during an eight-minute dance at The Point theatre. This developed into a full-length show, changing the face of Irish dance and music and bringing the group global success.

John McColgan, director of Riverdance, said: “It is both a privilege and a delight to celebrate 30 years of Riverdance and the unique journey it has taken us on. In those 30 years the show has transformed from a spectacle into a global cultural phenomenon – continuously evolving yet remaining true to its Irish roots.

“On this upcoming tour we look forward to welcoming the new generation of artists while paying tribute to the talented performers, creators, dedicated crew, and the millions of fans who have made Riverdance a worldwide celebration of music and dance.”

Fergus Fitzpatrick, the principal dancer and dance captain, said: “Being part of Riverdance’s journey is an absolute honour, it’s truly a dream come true to get to perform the principal role in this phenomenon. As we approach our 30th anniversary, the excitement for the incredible work our team and creative talents are about to unveil is palpable.

“I can’t wait to see what they will produce and feel the excited pulse of the audience’s response. This milestone is not just a celebration of Riverdance’s past but a light that inspires the new generation of performers all around the world.”

Padraic Moyles, chief executive and producer, and a former lead dancer, said the anniversary is “a testament to the dedication, care and passion of everyone who has contributed to the Riverdance journey”.

The music for the new shows is composed by Bill Whelan, and they will be produced by Moya Doherty. Whelan won a Grammy for his Riverdance album in 1997.

Amy Mae Dolan, principal dancer and dance captain, said being part of Riverdance has been “one of the greatest honours of my life”.

She added: “I am fascinated to see how Riverdance continues to grow and evolve over the next decade. I have no doubt that it will continue to surpass our expectations, move audiences and inspire new generations for dancers to come.”

Other venues being visited are the Brighton Centre, Portsmouth Guildhall, Bristol Hippodrome, Plymouth Pavilions, Utilita Arena Cardiff, De Montfort Hall in Leicester and York Barbican.

Tickets for the tour go on sale on Friday, March 22 at 10am.
