Do you know why Lord Rama is followed as a most eminent personality in South east Asia?

The reasons are many - He referred himself as a human avatar, he struggled like a normal man all through his life and his deeds, actions, existence can still be recorded through a lot of ways.

We know the place Lord Rama was born as Ayodhya in Utttar Pradesh, India.

We know Lanka as Sri Lanka where Ravana lived.

We also know his wife Sita's Janakpur and the place where Lord Rama learned lessons from Rishi Vishwamitra.

The most important and significant factor of Lord Rama's existence can be compared with the existence of all the places as it is as suggested in Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas.

We all know about the epic journey of Lord Rama from Ayodhya to Lanka. The story of Ramayana is all about this epic journey and the events took place in the journey.

Almost everyone in India or well versed with Hinduism knows the story of how the Lord Rama defeated the evil demon Ravana, the ruler of Lanka (present day Sri Lanka) at the end of his 14 year long journey from Ayodhya to Lanka while he was banished from his kingdom and forced to wander and live in jungles. But what not many people are aware of are all the places he visited during his journey.

Here is a brief look at 12 important and not so important landmarks that were part of Lord Rama’s journey from Ayodhya to Lanka.

The route followed by Rama included following places:

8. Lanka: Once Rama and Lakshmana crossed into Lanka with the monkey brigade, then a peace overture was initiated by Rama which failed. There upon war was declared. The actual duration of the war is not known but estimated to have lasted just 13 days from the start. . Ravana and his associates (except for Vibhishan) were killed. At the end of the war Rama offered the throne of Lanka to Vibhishana and returned to Ayodhya in the aerial vehicle (Pushpak Viman) of Ravana in time to take over the reign of the Kaushal kingdom at the end of his 14-year exile.

1. AYODHYA - Uttar Pradesh

Ayodhya: Rama's epic journey started from Ayodhya, the place where Lord Rama was born. Ayodhya is situated on the southern banks of the river Saryu. At present it is located in the Faizabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Dashrath had three wives - Kaushalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra. Sri Ram was born to Kaushalya and Dashrath. After 12 years of marriage of Rama and Sita, King Dashrath decided to make Lord Rama as the crown prince. On the even of the crowning ceremony, Manthra - a maidservant to Kaikeyi poisend her ears and reminded her of two boons from Dashrath. Manthara diverted the mind of Kaikeyi and here started the story of Ramayan and it was also the start of the Epic Journey of Rama from Ayodhya to Lanka. Kaikeyi asked Dashrath to exile Rama and Crown his son Bharat. As Dashrath has to fulfil two boons of Kaikeyi, he had no choice though he tried to negotiate with Kaikeyi a lot. With heavy heart, he asked Rama to leave to the wilderness on exile of 14 years. Out of respect and as referred as Maryada Purushottam - Lord Rama agreed on this and left Ayodhya. Sita and Laxman also asked to go with Sri Ram. After they left Ayodhya, they reached to the banks of Ganga. Nishadraj Guha was the ruler of the Nishad kingdom. He ferried the three to the southern bank of Ganga, at Rama's request, in his boat.

Here, Lakshmana constructed a hermitage on the banks of the river of. Bharata met Rama and urged him to return after knowing the real reason behind the exile. However, Lord Rama could not go back on his word and disrespect his father, and so he carried on. After failing to exhort Rama to return to Ayodhya he got Rama's footwear to be placed on the throne while he would run a caretaker government for the next 14 years.

5. PANCHAVATI - Nashik

Photo of Panchavati, Nashik, Maharashtra, India by PANKAJ KUMAR

Panchvati means five (pancha) banyan (vata) trees. This is the place where Lakshmana built a bamboo cottage in a tranquil area for Rama and Sita to reside. At this site Surpanaka (Ravana's sister) came to entice Rama, failing which she got disfigured by Lakshmana. Her brothers, Khar and Dhushan, who came to her defense along with a bunch of other demons were defeated and killed by Rama and Lakshmana. The aftermath of this brought Ravana into the scene with a wicked plan to abduct Sita. The plan was for Ravana's uncle Mareecha to assume the form of a golden deer to entice Sita, lure Rama in pursuit of it, and draw Lakshmana too away from the scene at which time Ravana would swoop in to carry Sita away.

Lepakshi (Andhra Pradesh) is a place were the words uttered by Lord Rama to Jatayu after his wings were cut off by Ravana here when he had tried to stop Ravana from carrying Sita off to Lanka.

Bali, the older brother of Sugreeva, ruled this region when Rama and Lakshmana arrived there. Sugreeva, shunned by Bali as a result of a misunderstanding, took refuge in the mountain called Rishyamuka parvat. This is said to be located near the Pampa Lake in the Tungabhadra river valley. It is here that Rama was served by the pious lady Sabari who attained salvation (Moksha) after waiting for 12 years for Rama's arrival and serving him delicious fruits when he came.

In this blog post, we will trace the route that Lord Shri Ram took during his vanvaas and explore the spiritual and cultural significance of his journey.

Introduction

Lord Shri Ram’s vanvaas is a significant event in the Sanatan Itihaas Ramayana . Lord Shri Ram was exiled to the forest for fourteen years to fulfill a promise made to his father, King Dasharatha . During this period, Lord Shri Ram had to face several challenges and obstacles but emerged victorious with the help of his devoted brother Lakshman , wise mentor sage Valmiki , his bhakt Hanuman , and loyal allies like Sugreeva , and Jatayu . Lord Shri Ram’s vanvaas teaches us valuable life lessons such as the importance of duty, loyalty, courage, and devotion to God.

Lord Ram is often referred to as “ Maryada Purushottam ” because he is the perfect embodiment of virtue and righteousness. The term “ Maryada ” means “code of conduct” or “rules and regulations,” while “ Purushottam ” means “supreme person” or “best among men.”

Sage Valmiki was a great sage (and the author of Ramayana in original Sanskrit form). He welcomed Lord Shri Ram and his companions and gave them shelter in his ashram. Lord Shri Ram spent a few years at the ashram, and it was during this period that he met Hanuman for the first time.

Panchavati was a dense forest and the perfect place for Lord Shri Ram to spend his vanvaas. However, their peaceful life was disrupted when Ravana, the king of Lanka, abducted Sita. Lord Shri Ram and Lakshman went on a mission to rescue Sita and were aided by the monkey king Sugreeva and his army of vanars .

Journey to the Southern Tip of India

This bridge was known as Ram Setu and was made of rocks and stones that floated on water. With the help of the Vanara army, Lord Shri Ram and his companions crossed the ocean and reached Lanka.

Battle with Ravana

After reaching Lanka, Lord Shri Ram and his allies waged a fierce battle against Ravana and his army. The battle was intense, and Lord Shri Ram had to use his divine powers and weapons to defeat Ravana. In the end, Lord Shri Ram emerged victorious, and Ravana was killed. With the victory over Ravana, Lord Shri Ram fulfilled his duty to restore Dharma and returned to Ayodhya with Sita and Lakshman.

Ayodhya, the ancient capital of both Lord Ram and the Ikshvaku dynasty, boasts numerous temples dedicated to the four brothers, Lord Hanuman, and Maa Sita. The city is located on the banks of the Saryu River and features many ghats. An unforgettable experience is the evening aarti held on the banks of the Sarayu River.

According to legend, Ayodhya was founded by Lord Manu. Today, it is primarily known for its connection to the birthplace of Lord Ram, and visitors can see the Hanuman Garhi temple, Nageshwarnath Temple, and Kanak Bhawan.

Prayagraj is referred to in many ancient texts because it is where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet. Shringaverpur, which is approximately 45 km away, is where Lord Ram crossed the Ganges while in exile with Sita and Lakshman. Nishadraj, the ruler of the ancient kingdom, washed Lord Ram’s feet before he crossed the holy river Ganga.

Chitrakoot is a holy place that is revered for its natural beauty as well as its religious significance. It is one of the most important places associated with Ramayana in modern-day India, where Ram, Sita, and Lakshman spent their exile years. Chitrakoot is also connected to significant events in Ram and Sita’s lives.

Bharat Milap, the sequence in Ramayana where Bharat came to inform Lord Ram about the death of his father King Dasharath and requested him to return to Ayodhya, occurred in Chitrakoot. It is also believed that all the Gods and Goddesses assembled here when Lord Ram performed the Shuddhi ritual in honour of his father. Chitrakoot is situated between the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Dandkaranya Forests

ram journey map

Full coverage of Lord Ram, Laksham & Maa Sita’s visits to various ashrams in Dandakaranya forests ~ https://shanthiraju.wordpress.com/2020/07/06/ramayatra67/

The Dandakaranya forests are a large forested region spanning across Chattisgarh, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. During the time of the Ramayana, it also extended to parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. This is the part of the forest that Lord Ram, Ma Sita, and Lakshman crossed on their way to Panchvati. The name “Dandakaranya” comes from the words “Dandak” and “Aranya,” which mean “The Jungle of Punishment.” It was once a stronghold of the Rakshas clan and part of Ravan’s Lanka kingdom.

Today, the Dandakaranya forests are primarily located in the Bastar district of Chattisgarh and have undergone significant development. The area is home to several beautiful waterfalls, including the famous horse-shoe shaped Chitrakoot falls. Many ancient caves can also be found throughout the region, such as Kutumsar and Kailash caves, which have natural shivalinga formations. Other noteworthy caves include Dandak Cave, Karpan Cave, Kanger Cave, and Devgiri Cave.

Panchavati, an ancient location that is now known as Nashik, holds significant importance in the epic tale of Ramayana. During his exile, Lord Ram spent a major portion of his time here. It was at this place that Lakshman had cut off the nose of Surpanakha and where Ravan had abducted Ma Sita. The Aranya Kanda of the Ramayana is entirely set in Panchavati, which was a part of the Danakarayana Forests at that time.

ram journey map

Do you recall the brave fight put up by Jatayu against Ravana when he tried to escape with Sita in the sky after abducting her? During the encounter, Ravana attacked Jatayu and caused him to fall to the ground by clipping his wings. This incident happened at Lepakshi, which is located in Andhra Pradesh. As per the Valmiki Ramayana, this is also where Ram met the dying Jatayu and helped him attain salvation.

Lepakshi is a place steeped in mythical grandeur and is famous for its ancient temples. The most notable attraction here is the Veerabhadra Temple, which stands as a splendid testimony to the cultural and architectural heritage of the Vijayanagara Empire. Additionally, it is recommended to visit the temples of Papanatheswara, Raghunatha, Srirama, and Durga, located on the nearby Kurma Saila hill, which is shaped like a tortoise.

Hampi, also known as Kishkindha in the Ramayana, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most well-known sites associated with the epic. It is an architectural marvel renowned for its temples and monuments. It was in Hampi that Ram and Lakshman met an elderly ascetic woman named Shabari, who lived in the Ashram of her guru, Matanga Parvat. When Lord Ram and Lakshman visited her during their journey to Lanka, she offered them food and advised them to seek help from Hanuman and Sugriva of the monkey kingdom, who resided further south near Pampa Lake. Lord Ram then took a holy dip in Matanga Lake, also called Pampa Sarovara.

The kingdom of Kishkindha, once ruled by Bali and Sugriva, is where Ram met Hanuman and organized the Vanarsena, his army, with the help of Sugriva. Today, the region around the Tungabhadra river near Hampi defines this kingdom. Hampi’s attractions include the Shri Virupaksha Temple, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables, Hazara Rama Temple Complex, Zenana Complex, King’s Court, and the underground Shivalaya.

Trichy, formerly known as Tricullapalli or Trishirapalli, was once the kingdom of Trishira, Ravana’s brother. Situated on the banks of the Kaveri River, it boasts a beautiful Shiva Temple that is believed to absolve sins committed in the past. As per popular legend, Lord Rama sought Lord Shiva’s blessings at this temple to atone for the sin of killing Khar and Dooshan.

Kodiyakarai

ram journey map

Kodiakkarai has been recognised as a Ramsar site. This location is also associated with the mythological Hindu epic, The Ramayana. The highest point of the cape, standing at an altitude of 4 metres (13 ft), is known as Ramarpatham in Tamil, meaning “Rama’s feet.” A stone slab on the cape bears the imprints of two feet and is believed to be the place where Lord Rama stood and surveyed Ravana’s kingdom in Sri Lanka, which is situated 48 kilometres (30 mi) to the south of Point Calimere. Furthermore, Kalki references this site in his historical novel Ponniyin Selvan.

Rameshwaram

ram journey map

Located at the southernmost tip of Pamban Island in Rameswaram, the abandoned town of Dhanushkodi holds significant mythological importance. It was here that Lord Ram ordered the construction of a bridge to Lanka by the Vanarsena, which is now known as the Ram Setu. This bridge was built in the strait that separates modern-day India from Sri Lanka. Pilgrims typically bathe in the ocean here before completing their pilgrimage to Rameshwaram. According to legend, Lord Ram stopped here on his journey back home after defeating Ravana to worship Shiva and ask for forgiveness for killing Ravana, who was an ardent Shiva devotee.

Dhanushkodi, along with Rameshwaram, which is the southernmost tip of India, is not only hauntingly picturesque but also carries with it one of the most speculated mysteries of the Ramayana – the secret behind Ram Setu or Adam’s bridge. Dhanushkodi, being the starting point of this “setu,” is an important place for those interested in the history and mythology of the Ramayana.

Talaimannar

ram journey map

This is the location where the Ram Setu connected to the kingdom of Lanka, and where Lord Ram and his Vanar Sena first entered Lanka during the historic battle with Ravana. Talaimannar, now a Sri Lankan beach town, provides stunning views of the bridge and a lighthouse. It can be accessed via a causeway from Mannar, which connects the island to the rest of the country.

ram journey map

According to belief, during the time of Ramayana, King Ravana utilized the flat, firm land of Ussangoda for traveling on his Pushpak Vimana and also as a parking spot for the vehicle. The sand in this area is red and some of the stones are black. Legend has it that Hanuman arrived and set fire to the land, which turned it red in color. As a result, Ussangoda is a peculiar coastal region that is well-known as one of the Sri Lankan Ramayana locations, characterized by a lack of trees and dark-colored soil.

Hakgala Botanical Garden (Ashok Vatika)

ram journey map

It is believed that the Hakgala Botanical Gardens may be the location of the ancient Ashok Vatika site. The gardens derive their name from the plentiful Ashok trees that still flourish there. According to legend, it was in this location that Ma Sita was held captive by Ravan. In the time of the Ramayan, this area was said to have had an extensive collection of fruit trees, which were consumed and destroyed by Lord Hanuman during his visit to Lanka as a messenger of Lord Ram.

Lord Shri Ram’s journey during vanvaas holds significant spiritual and cultural significance. Let’s explore some of the key lessons that we can learn from his journey:

The Importance of Duty

Lord Shri Ram’s vanvaas journey teaches us the importance of duty. Despite being a prince, Lord Shri Ram willingly accepted the exile to fulfill his father’s promise. He knew that his duty as a son was to obey his father’s wishes, even if it meant sacrificing his comforts and privileges. Lord Shri Ram’s journey teaches us that duty is more important than personal desires and comforts.

The Power of Devotion

Lord Shri Ram’s vanvaas journey also teaches us the power of devotion. Lord Shri Ram’s companions, including Hanuman, Sugreeva, and Jatayu, were all devoted to him and were ready to do anything for him. Their devotion and loyalty helped Lord Shri Ram overcome several obstacles during his journey. Lord Shri Ram’s journey teaches us that devotion to God can give us strength and help us overcome any challenge.

The Importance of Forgiveness

Lord Shri Ram’s victory over Ravana was not just a military triumph but also a triumph of forgiveness. Lord Shri Ram forgave Ravana for his past mistakes and offered him a chance to surrender and seek redemption. Ravana refused the offer and chose to fight, but Lord Shri Ram’s gesture of forgiveness showed that forgiveness is a powerful virtue that can heal even the most bitter of wounds.

Lord Shri Ram’s vanvaas journey is a remarkable tale of sacrifice, courage, and devotion. His journey teaches us valuable life lessons such as the importance of duty, devotion, and forgiveness. Tracing Lord Shri Ram’s journey during vanvaas is not just a spiritual pilgrimage but also a cultural and historical experience. Visiting the places associated with Lord Shri Ram’s journey can deepen our understanding and appreciation of Hindu mythology and culture. Lord Shri Ram’s journey will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.

Tracing the Sita-Rama Journey

Centuries back, an epic journey to the wilderness was undertaken by an extraordinarily virtuous prince, his devoted wife, and brother in order to uphold righteousness. They braved fiery demons, thorns, hunger, thirst, fatigue, and rigorous mental tests to set an example for posterity. During their journey, they met great hermits, gigantic birds, illusive dwellings, monkey tribe, and left a trail for the mankind to follow. Happytrips.com hits the trail of Sita-Rama's journey from Lanka to Ayodhya, hitting all the pit-stops.

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh

If this epic journey had to be traced, Ayodhya is the go-to place. Believed to be Rama's birth place, it has numerous temples and sites linking it to the Ramayana.

Top attractions: Kanak Bhawan Temple, Hanuman Garhi Temple, Sarayu River ghat.

Prayag, Uttar Pradesh

Prayag, the modern-day Allahabad, is where Rama met Rishi Bhardwaja to receive his blessings and wisdom to survive the trials he was to face during the 14-year-long exile. On his return from Sri Lanka, Rama and his retinue landed at the ashram of Sage Bhardwaja once again before moving onward for Ayodhya.

Top attractions: Bhardwaj Ashram, Mankameshwar Temple, Shringverpur.

Chitrakoota, Madhya Pradesh

Know the Vanvas Route of Lord Rama – From Ayodhya to Lanka!

Miss Newshand

The journey of Ram, Lakshman and Sita started from Ayodhya after he decided to meet the demands of his favorite mother Rani Kaikeyi. Here we share the 14 years of vanvas of Lord Rama that started from Ayodhya in the north and went down till Lanka in the South.

The Start – From Ayodha to The End of Kosala Kingdom

Ayodhya is located on the southern banks of present day Ghagra River. They were escorted by Maharaja Dashrath’s Prime Minister Sumantra in a chariot to the banks of Tamsa River almost 20km away from Ayodhya. Here, there is a place called Purva Chakiya, the subjects of Ayodhya followed Ram till here.

However, Ram, Lakshman and Sita left the citizen in the middle of the night in a chariot along with Sumanthra so that none of them could follow Ram in the future journey.

Crossing Gomti and Vadritha river, they came towards the bank of Sandika River. This was the southern border of Kosala kingdom.

The Journey of Lord Rama From Prayag to Chitrakut

Next, they reached Prayag.  It was here that Ram met his old friend Guha, a Nishada who helped the trio cross the river in his boat. Next, they arrived at sage Bharadwaj’s hermitage, who counseled them to stay near the mountains of Chitrakut around 30 miles from Prayag.

2 km away from Bharadwaj’a ashram is Sita Kund a holy place, it was here that Ram requested Sumanthra to head back to Ayodhya. Next, the trio reached Triveni Sangam and crossed river Yamuna in a raft. It took 2 days for Ram, Laksham and Sita to reach Chitrakut barefoot after they crossed river Yamuna.

After crossing Ramnangar and Valmiki Ashram, the trio reached kamadgiri Mountains in Chitrakut. It was this spot where Bharat met Ram and took his paduka (slippers) to place on throne. Soon, many people started visiting the place disturbing the other holy men and sages. So, Ram decided to leave Chitrakut. It is assumed that Ram would stayed here for one or two years.

10 Years Into the Dandak Forest

Next they moved to Amravati almost 7 km away from Atri Asharam in Chitrakoot. It was here Lord Rama had killed the demon Viradh. Post this, he moved to Sharbhang Ashram in Satna (in Madhya Pradesh). There were plenty if hermitages here and so Lord Rama ended spending 10 years in the Dandak forest living few seasons, months and/or years in different hermitages.

After that he came in Ramtek area in Nagpur and then headed towards Nashik. It was here that Lord Rama reached the Sutiksha Muni (Disciple of Agastya rishi) ashram. This place had.many demons. Rama killed plenty of them. Interestingly, this is the same place where Maa Durga killed Mahisasur.

Next, Ram moved to Agastya ashram where Agastya Rishi gave him the knowledge of several celestial weapons. He then guided him towards Godavari river and also asked him to make his ashram near the river.

The Kidnapping of Sita in Panchavati

They reached Panchavati and started residing in a small hut. It was here that Lakshman had chopped off Surpnakha’s nose. Also, this is the same place where Sita was kidnapped by Ravan killing Mareech and Jatayu.

Post the kidnapping of Sita, the brothers headed towards the Kaband Ashram near Ramdurg in Belgaum, Karnataka. Then to Shabri Ashram where Shabri, a disciple of Sage Matang tasted the berries and then gave it to Ram so that she ensured the berries are sweet. Shabri was the one who asked Ram to approach Sugriv to search his wife Sita.

Lord Rama Meets Hanuman in Kishkinda

In search of Sugreev, Ram and Lakshman came to Kishkinda. Here they met Hanuman who then took both the brothers on his shoulders to meet Sugreev.

Lord Rama then spent the monsoon in Billari. It was here that Hanuman gave information about Sita to Ram. Next, they headed towards Tamil Nadu and reached Tricullapalli. Here, Ram prayed to Lord Shiva and also asked penance for killing Khar and Dooshan.

Then from Rampath, Ramanthpuram, Lord Rama finally reached Rameshwaram from where a bridge was made to travel Lanka.

Details of each visit and place will be described in our upcoming articles on Ramayan.

In the Footsteps of Ram

  • AUTHOR Krutika Haraniya
  • PUBLISHED 30 March 2023

The epic Ramayana , which tells the story, is a text of great religious value for the Hindus. But that apart, what is also interesting is how the legend of Ram and the story of the Ramayana is interwoven with places across India. Thousands of years after the story was first told, different parts of India - still reverberate with stories of Ram’s visit when he made his way down peninsular India - to save his wife.

Here is a tour through India as we trace the footsteps of Ram and find the many places he is said to have visited and lived in.

Kanha National Park, Madhya Pradesh

1. Kanha National Park & the Story of Shravan Kumar

Kanha National Park, in Madhya Pradesh is among the largest tiger reserves in central India. The stunning Sal forests of Kanha were famously brought alive in Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book’. But this beautiful reserve has an interesting connect with the story of Dasharatha, the King of Ayodhya and the father of Lord Ram and Shravan Kumar.

According to the Ramayana , Shravan Kumar was the only son of sage Shantanu and his wife, both of whom were blind. As per his parents’ wish, Shravan was carrying them across the country for a pilgrimage.

King Dashrath’s hunting of Shravan

While they were passing through the forests of present day Kanha, King Dasharatha who was on a hunting expedition in the same forest, killed him by mistake. Shravan had stopped by the lake to fetch some drinking water for his parents. In the darkness, King Dasharatha mistook Shravan for a deer and killed him. Repenting his actions, he went to Shravan’s parents to give them the tragic news. The grieving parents cursed the King saying that he too would suffer the pain of being separated from his child, as they had been.

Even today there is lake named ‘Shravan Tal’ in Kanha National Park and a place called ‘Shravan Chita’ where it is believed that Shravan was cremated. There is also place called ‘Dashratha Machaan’ from where King Dashratha is said to have shot Shravan.

King Janak finds Sita while ploughing the field

2. Sitamarhi: The Birthplace of Sita

The town of Sitamarhi in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, is considered to be the birthplace of Ram’s wife, Sita. As the legend goes, Sita sprang to life out of an earthen pot, when Raja Janaka the King of Mithila was ploughing a field somewhere near Sitamarhi to beseech Lord Indra for rain. Janaka found the baby Sita in a furrow of the field and raised her as his daughter. According to the Ramayana, when Sita (also called Janaki) was about sixteen, Janaka announced that she would marry yhe one who would be able to string the divine bow of Shiva. Though many royal suitors tried, only Ram, the Prince of Ayodhya, was successful. Not only did he string the mighty bow, he also snapped it in two. Thus, Ram won the hand of Sita in marriage.

The Sita-Kund (Sita Tank) is a Hindu pilgrimage site in Sitamarhi. Sita-Kund is a circular pond, 140 ft in diameter, where the devout believe that Sita bathed.

Sitamarhi is also home to Punaura Dham Mandir- one of the holiest Hindu temples dedicated to Sita. Millions of pilgrims visit the temple every year.

Ramghat at Chitrakoot

3. Chitrakoot

Chitrakoot, a town in Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh lies on the border of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The earliest mention of Chitrakoot is found in Valmiki’s Ramayana .

According to the Ramayana , Ram, Sita and Lakshman spent around 11 years of their exile or vanavas here. Chitrakoot is also associated with important events in Ram and Sita’s life. The region is associated with ‘Bharat Milap’ where Bharat came to meet Ram and requested him to return to Ayodhya. It is also believed that all the Gods and Goddesses visited this place when Lord Ram performed the Shuddhi ceremony in memory of his father. Even today, you can find many places linked to the story of Ram in Chitrakoot. No wonder devotees from all over come here to pay homage to Lord Ram.

A still from Ramleela performed in Delhi, 1949

Ramghat, in Chitrakoot is one of the major ghats associated with Ram and Sita where it is believed they came to pray and bathe during their stay. Hanuman Dhara, a temple situated on a hill is dedicated to Hanuman. There is also a small room called ‘Sita Rasoi’ (Sita’s Kitchen) where it is believed that Sita cooked food during their exile.

It was probably because of the significance of this place, that it is believed that the earliest known Ramleela was performed here about 475 years ago. Also Saint Tulsidas, composed Ramcharitmanas here when he was more than 80 years old in the local language of Awadhi in the 16th century.

Painting of abduction of Sita from Panchavati

4. Panchavati

Located on the banks of the Godavari, India’s second longest river, Panchvati in Nasik is rich with mythology and history. Panchavati is believed to have been a shelter for Ram, Lakshman, and Sita during their exile. Ram spent a few years of his 14-year-long exile ( Vanvasa ) at Panchvati, a place known in the Ramayana for Sita’s haran (kidnapping). There are five ( Pancham ) banyan trees ( Vat Vriksha ) here and hence the area is called Pancha-vati. It is a part of the famous Dandakaranya Forest, also mentioned in the Ramayana. Since it played such a prominent part in the epic, people come here to take a holy dip in the Godavari.

The city of Nasik is on the western side of the Godavari. Here Lakshman, Ram’s younger brother is said to have cut off the nose of Surpanakha, Ravan’s sister. Nasik means ‘nose’ and thus the city gets its name.

Sita Gumpha is near the five banyan trees in Panchavati. One can enter the cave through a very narrow staircase. The cave has idols of Ram, Lakshman and Sita. To the left, is a cave with a shivling. It is believed to be the point from which Ravan kidnapped Sita.

Kalaram Temple, Panchvati

The most important place for devotees in Panchavati is Ramkund. It is so called because Ram is believed to have bathed there. Mortal remains ( Asthi ) immersed in this kunda , are immediately absorbed in the water. A dip in this sacred kunda is considered very sacred. Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed in Ramkund after his death.

Another important site is the temple of Kala Ram. This temple was built by the Peshwas of Pune in the 18th century. There are great processions that take place here even today on Ramnavami, Dussehra and Chaitra Padwa (Hindu new year day). The specialty of the temple is that it was built with black stones. In 1930, Dr. Ambedkar performed a Satyagraha, to allow the entry of Harijans into the temple.

Photograph of Banganga Tank, 1855

5. Banganga

Banganga is a medieval water tank which is part of the Walkeshwar Temple Complex in the upscale area of Malabar Hill in Mumbai. According to the Ramayana , Ram paused at this spot on his way from Ayodhya to Lanka in pursuit of the demon king, Ravan who had kidnapped his wife, Sita. Overcome with fatigue and thirst, Ram asked his brother Lakshman to bring him some water. Lakshman instantly shot an arrow into the ground, and water gushed forth, creating a tributary of the Ganges, which flows over a thousand miles away. Hence the place is named Banganga- the Ganga created by a baan (arrow).

According to another legend, Lord Parashuram shot an arrow and brought Ganga from Patala and so the other name Patalganga to Banganga.

Legend relates Ram and Lakshman to the origin of Walkeshwar temple too. It is said that the shivling here was installed by Ram himself. It is believed that the original shivling was made by sand ( Valuka in Sanskrit) and the name Walkeshwar corresponds to Valuka Ishwar (idol made of sand).

The tank at Banganga was built by Lakshman Prabhu, a minister in the court of Silhara dynasty kings of Thane in 1127 CE. Banganga Tank is a rectangular in shape and surrounded by steps on all sides. There are records which suggest that the tank was built out of a donation given by a Rama Kamath in 1715 CE. The main temple has been reconstructed since then and is at present a reinforced concrete structure of recent construction. At the entrance of the tank, stand two pillars bearing oil lamps, probably 300 years old. One of the fascinating things about the tank is that the water of the tank still remains sweet despite the sea being so close.

Kishkindha

6. The Kingdom of Kishkindha

Kishkindha near Hampi in the Koppal district of Karnataka is said to be a part of the Dandaka forest, which stretched from the Vindhiya mountain range down to the south of India. Kishkindha was the kingdom of Vanara (monkey) King Bali and his brother Sugreev.

Meeting of Ram and Sugreeva

According to the Ramayana , after Ravan abducted Sita, Ram’s frantic search for his beloved wife brought him and Lakshman southwards to Kishkindha. It is here that they met the Monkey God Hanuman, Ram’s greatest devotee. At the time, Kishkindha's rulers, brothers Vali and Sugreev were embroiled in a bitter feud, with the former determined to kill the latter. Sugreeva took refuge in the hermitage of Sage Matanga on the Matanga Hill, to the top of which visitors now climb, to enjoy stunning panoramic views of the ruins of Hampi.

The Sugreev Cave near Kodandarama Temple, Hampi is a popular tourist stop. It is believed that this is the place where Sugreev hid the jewels that Sita dropped along the way as she was being taken away by her abductor, hoping that they might lead Ram to her.

While one can argue about the divide between myth and history, legends and reality; what one cannot deny is how the Ramayana and the Mahabharata the great epics of India have linked the far corners of the country through time.

Ramayan Map: a map that traces Prabhu Ram’s journey

HinduPost Desk

Prabhu Sri Ram has a very important place in Hindu Dharma and Ramayan is the first Hindu itihas in the form of a Mahakavya. One can now get the journey of Bhagwan Ram on canvas from birth to return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravan. The website describes the venture as a marriage of art and technology tracing the journey of Maryada Purushottam on Bharat’s map of 5000 BCE.

Bharatiyas would now be able to view a unique map of ancient Bharat going back 7000 years. The best feature of the map is that it shows both ancient as well as modern names of historically relevant places. It also has a refresher with location and descriptions of Ramayan’s key events that’ll help familiarize children and those unfamiliar with the same.

The map has been created using advanced geospatial technology to show a scaled map in both kilometres and yojanas. It is printed and designed on a canvas with a nice textured feel and antique-styled cartography. Another unique feature is it contains present-day Bharat’s map on which locations relevant to the Mahakavya have been plotted which will enable users to co-relate age-old legends with their modern locations.

“This initiative is very close to my heart. To me, leveraging the MapmyIndia Mappls platform and cutting-edge technology to create a map of Ramayan, is like a state of self-actualization, where my life’s work meets my spiritual being. Prabhu Shri Ram is the very soul of India, and his journey is the journey of India into an age of peace, prosperity and enlightenment. It brings forth the message and significance of Shri Ram to the audience, young and old, in a simple intelligible format, highlighting the greatness of our ancient civilisation.”, reads a message by Rakesh Verma, Co-founder, Chairman and Managing Director.

The detailing highlights the efforts that have gone into making this rare masterpiece. The map is available in both Hindi and English in the form of a roll-up canvas as well as framed canvas. This can count as a unique way of telling the epic that’ll help the younger generation to connect with their Dharmic roots. Furthermore, in addition to being a prized possession, it can also be a great gift this festive season.

It is surely a marriage of art and technology that takes us back to a time when Prabhu Ram walked the earth!

Lord Rama at Rameswaram

How ever the evidence provided in the Ithihasas (meaning ‘it happened thus’) can not be wished away.

Normal to procedure to validate the authenticity of the work is to check both internal and external evidence.

Internal evidence is provided in the text we are studying ,while external evidence consists of references to the event in Contemporary and post -the work in discussion.

As for as The Ramayana goes, external evidence is provided in the Puranas(means ‘ very old’) , Eighteen in Number( in Sanskrit) and in regional Languages of India, be it Tamil,Telugu,Kannada, Malayalam,Hindi,Bengali,Oriya, other languages .

In addition Dialects of India have this spread through word of mouth.

Though the versions vary in embellishments, the basic fact that there was a King called Rama , he had been sent to forest with his wife called Sita by his father who wanted to appease his wife(not Rama’s mother),she was abducted by a Chieftain called Ravana of Sri Lanka and he was killed by Rama , never varies.(History of The Tamils by P.T.Srinivasa Iyengar)

Reference to the Ramayana has been made in Mahabharata, which is posterior to The Ramayana.

One of the characters in The Mahabharata is Lord Krishna, whose palace has been unearthed off Gujarat coast , India.(please see my blog filed under(‘Videos)

External evidence needs the corroboration of the internal evidence supplied by Valmiki in The Ramayana.

Based on this ,research has proved the Date of birth of Sri Rama, which is explained here below.

In addition the route taken by Lord Rama is traced at the beginning of the article.

Excerpts&(The following document is the ‘MOST’ authentic scientific work that does not need further scientific verification. ) The story of Shri Ram’s life was first narrated by Maharishi Valmiki in the Ramayana, which was written after Shri Ram was crowned as the king of Ayodhya. Maharishi Valmiki was a great astronomer as he has made sequential astronomical references on important dates related to the life of Shri Ram indicating the location of planets vis-a-vis zodiac constellations and the other stars (nakshatras) . Needless to add that similar position of planets and nakshatras is not repeated in thousands of years. By entering the precise details of the planetary configuration of the important events in the life of Shri Ram as given in the Valmiki Ramayan in the software named “Planetarium” corresponding exact dates of these events according to the English calendar can be known.

Mr Pushkar Bhatnagar of the Indian Revenue Service had acquired this software from the US.. It is used to predict the solar/lunar eclipses and distance and location of other planets from earth. He entered the relevant details about the planetary positions narrated by Maharishi Valmiki and obtained very interesting and convincing results, which almost determine the important dates starting from the birth of Shri Ram to the date of his coming back to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile.

Maharishi Valmiki has recorded in Bal Kaand sarga 19 and shloka eight and nine (1/18/8,9) that Shri Ram was born on ninth tithi of Chaitra month when the position of different planets vis-a-vis zodiac constellations and nakshatras (visible stars) were: i) Sun in Aries; ii) Saturn in Libra; iii) Jupiter in Cancer; iv) Venus in Pisces; v) Mars in Capricorn; vi) Lunar month of Chaitra; vii) Ninth day after no moon; viii) Lagna as Cancer (cancer was rising in the east); ix) Moon on the Punarvasu (Gemini constellation & Pllux star); x) Day time (around noon).

This data was fed into the software. The results indicated that this was exactly the location of planets/stars in the noon of January 10, 5114 BC. Thus Shri Ram was born on January 10, 5114 BC (7123 years back). As per the Indian calendar it was the ninth day of Shukla Paksha in Chaitra month and the time was around 12 to 1 noontime. This is exactly the time and date when Ram Navmi is celebrated all over India.

You don’t know anything. If your purpose is to denigrate Hinduism then it is ok.

I am surprised. I have tried to quote that Lord Rama was not a fictitious personality invented by somebody but an real person who lived. I can not understand what has been conveyed to you by the article.

Rama was not a person but God. He took incarnation in the latter years of Treta Yuga. After that Dwapar Yuga has passed. It means to say that Rama took incarnation around 10,00,000 years ago.

You can get information on Hindu Yugas on net also. A link is given below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_Yuga

Dwapar Yuga= 8,64,000 Kali Yuga Began on 18 Feb 3102 BC Kali Yuga Years upto 0 AD= 3,102 Kali Yuga Years upto between 0 AD to DEC 2010 end= 2,010

The information that is provided in my article is based on the evidence available in The Ramayana. The facts check out based on Astronomical calculations. This proves, first of all, The Ramayana was not a Myth or a Story. In fact my son asked me the question just as you have ,that ‘Lord Rama was born in Treta Yuga and you are assigning a date in Kaliyuga?’ Also the Rama Sethu is dated one lakh years old. Answer is according to Indian Philosophy Time is Cyclic and it is not Linear. To put it simply,Ramayana is happening Right Now .has also happened and will happen. Please check my Blog Time a Non-Linear Theory filed under Astrophysics. I have seen your posts. Very good effort in conveying Hindu thought. In The translation you have provided for ‘OM Poorna mitha Poornam,….,you have called the Brahman as God. In fact the Reality Brahman is beyond qualities and the Trimurthis and Avatars are Saguna Manifestations and ntr Nirguna Brahman that is spoken of by The Upanishads(in this context) Brahman or God can nor be known but can only be felt(Anuboodhi)

The planetary positions can get roughly matched on two different instances of time. The Mahabharata gives planetary positions accurately yet calculating back from the present position gives rise to some unexplainable conflicts. I can only request you to withdraw this new date of Ram’s birth as it is extremely against the Hindu scriptures. In trying to settle the controversy of historicity of Ram you have generated another controversy. Such things aren’t going to help Hinduism. The Westerners distorted Hindu dates as they couldn’t digest such long periods. The Hindu dates are exactly correct, may be you will realise this sometime.

I am surprised that the point has not gone in. Our scriptures are beyond Human reasoning and we can only try to explain with whatever is available to us. First step, is Lord Rama’s existence has been proved. Similarly the concept of Time as enunciated in our System will also be proved, not that it matters . What I am trying to state is that Lord Rama is not an imaginary person as He is made out to be the so called Liberals. Next is Time concept of Hinduism . Please read my blogs under Astrophysics. Quantum theory is anticipated and explained in Hinduism. You are following one path;me another. Let us not score same side goals. Let us remember that Hinduism survives and has survived because it is the Truth. It does not Ramanan to support it. Rather Ramanan needs Hinduism to help him Realize Himself/Reality.

Ok. No point prolonging arguments. I myself have read Quantum Theory, Theory of Relativity(Special & General), Atomic Physics as I am Engineer by profession. I was fascinated with all these. But apart from giving the fascination all these don’t lead to the Truth. It is fact that the material science not only doesn’t lead to Truth but also leads you away from the Truth.

I think the route Rama took was more straight down south instead of going south west and then south east. There are claims that Panchavati is near Bhadrachalam in Andhra Pradesh. There is a famous Rama temple there. Ofcourse Nashik claims it too. But if you see the topography the forests are very dense through Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh regions than Nashik. To see dense vegetation you need to go all the way to Western Ghats further west.

tvbkmurthy Avatar

Surely it was not straight. Perhaps the tranquility and sublimity of mother nature led him. further the exile has to last fourteen years, so he might have moved slowly resting at places as long as the comforts were there and then proceed to rh next.

Am suprised too. Both of u are saying theSAME thing. So why is Mr.Pramod Kushwa upset?!!

To Rhea, Only Lord Rama knows!

would position of stars etc.be repeats in several years may it be thousands or more ? If it is so then how can we predict this particular date and time ?

Yes. That is the reason Hindus have defined Time as Cyclic and not Linear. For details on this you may read my post Time Non Linear ramanan50.It goes without saying then the events ,including Avatars keep repeating themselves. This is borne by our Philosophy. And these vents are existing/happening at this point of Time elsewhere. Please refer my posts on Parallel Universes

This is fascinating topic. The same planetary positions can repeat again and again. The last time the combination happened (mentioned by you in the article) could be in 5114 BCE. How about the previous occurrences of the same combination?

If you keep going back and hit combinations in Treta Yuga, one of them should be considered as the birth date of Lord Rama based on Ramayana and Hindu scriptures.

People can continue to argue about the validity of scriptures, but they are the source of information and the source should be respected and noted in discussions. That is missing in this topic. If you can update that information, along with 5114 BCE (which may be suitable for some folks), then we are not twisting the factual data found in Ramayana.

A cinema tour of Moscow - tips for true film buffs

VMPL New Delhi [India], May 25: The beautiful, eclectic and colourful city of Moscow, witness to so many historical epochs, is always taking part in movie shoots - its streets, squares and buildings in a range of architectural styes are being used as settings for Russian and international films. In April, a film crew led by director Venkat Prabhu was at work on Moscow's streets: scenes from the Russian capital will be used in his action film "The Greatest of All Time". Moscow has also attracted the attention of other Indian producers looking for a film set: following several business missions to the city held by Moscow Agency of Creative Industries, Indian filmmakers are planning their first shoots in the city. Below, we describe some of the Moscow sights which will soon be seen by Indian viewers and the most interesting locations in the city for committed cinephiles.

Cult film locations The Russian capital very recently became the setting of the Indian action film "The Greatest of All Time" by director Venkat Prabhu: it was shot on Manezhnaya Square, the chase and gun-fight scenes were filmed in Lyalin, Barashevsky and Maly Kazenny Lanes, on Patriarch Bridge and in other Moscow streets. A spy thriller starring Vijay in the role of an Indian secret agent, it will be the first foreign film produced via the Moscow digital film platform, a new service for filmmakers. Foreign directors can use it to select filming locations, equipment and props online. In the words of Venkat Prabhu, working with Moscow colleagues is an absolute delight. "Here in Moscow, they have a really good team", he said. "They are brilliant. For example, we were filming a motorcycle chase here and it worked out really well: watch out for it in the movie, you'll love it". The film crew of "The Greatest of All Time" spent around two weeks in Moscow. In the film, a retired secret agent returns to Moscow to complete an unfinished mission from the past. "To be honest, few Indian films have been shot in Moscow, and I wanted to give our viewers this experience", said Prabhu, explaining his choice of location for the main action. "We all studied Russian culture and history at school, and it is so nice to be here now and to show this city to our viewers. Moscow plays a very important role in our film".

Moscow has repeatedly been chosen as a film set by foreign directors who prefer real locations to studio mockups. For example, part of "The Bourne Supremacy" - the sequel to the thriller "The Bourne Identity" - was filmed in Kiev railway station, and the stunning car chase was filmed around the Moscow Youth Palace near the Frunzenskaya metro station. The villains in the film race through Ivanovskaya Hill, Rozhdestvensky Boulevard, Trubnaya Square and along the Raushkaya and Taras Shevchenko Embankments. In the late 1980s, on Red Square, Arnold Schwarzenegger played an incorruptible policeman in Walter Hill's movie "Red Heat". It was still quite difficult to get filming permission at that time, and a result the scene was shot from handheld cameras in a bit of a rush. But the two main heroes, Red Square and the great Arnie, went down in history together.

By 1994, it was easier for Alan Metter to get the Moscow government's approval to film the final episode "Police Academy" in the city. While the "good cops" together with the Russian police track down a villain, the viewers can enjoy views of Red Square and the Mausoleum, the Bolshoi Theatre, Novodevichi Monastery, Gorky Park and other famous Moscow landmarks. In 2014, Paul Anderson went further - quite literally: his film crew was not only given five hours of creative access to Red Square but was also permitted to film in the Moscow Metro. His film "Resident Evil: Retribution" features shots of the Arbatskaya station. Some film critics to this day believe that Andersen owed his good luck to Milla Jovovich and her Russan roots.

Film art masterpieces from around the world in their original languages Moscow plays host to one of the oldest international film shows - the Moscow International Film Festival, which has been held since 1935. The first chairman of the Festival jury was the great director Sergey Eisenstein, and since then it has featured Richard Geer, Luc Besson, Robert de Niro, Theo Angelopoulos, Kim Ki-duk, Alan Parker, Emir Kusturica and other global cinema stars. MFF's red carpet has been graced by Michelangelo Atonioni, Sophia Loren and Elisabeth Taylor. Since 1999, the festival has been held annually, and this year presented its 46th international film show programme. This year, India was represented by the Tamil melodrama "Seven Seas Seven Hills" from producer Ram, and by film critic Indu Shrikent, who was a member of the festival jury. One of the awards made by the jury was went to "Need to Shoot Movies About Love", a film which was shot in India and got a special mention "For reflecting gentleness in the waters of the River Ganges". True connoisseurs of festival cinema strive to attend the Moscow International Film Festival year after year, and often time their visits to Moscow to coincide with famous film shows. In recent years, MIFF has been held every April, but it is best to keep an eye on the festival announcements. The films are traditionally shown in their original language with subtitles, so that foreign visitors can enjoy watching moves in their own language.

An alternative to guided tours - Moscow's cinemas Tourists rarely visit Moscow's cinemas, which is such a shame, because many of them have retained their historic appeal, unique decor and atmosphere. Furthermore, many of them show films in foreign languages, so you could well spend a cold, rainy day in a cozy cinema hall like a real Muscovite. Amongst the cinema must-sees are Moskino Fakel (Shosse Entuziastov 15/16) - one of the oldest cinemas in the city, which is reviving and maintaining the arthouse cinema tradition. It was originally opened on the ground floor of a residential Stalin-era skyscraper, and since being refurbished it has retained its charm as an urban haunt for fans of arthouse films.

Another strategic meeting place for Moscow cinephiles is the Illusion cinema, located inside one of the Stalin-era towers (Kotelnicheskaya Naberezhnaya 1/15). Here, in historical interiors amongst stucco moldings and bar-reliefs, you can watch unique archive films from the State Cinema Fund, international classics and contemporary indie and festival films in their original languages. The building is stylized as a Soviet cinema and decorated with copies of old posters and photographs from famous movies. GUM - the Main Department Store - is a wonderful place for guided tours and shopping, but film lovers know it and love it for its vintage cinema in the heart of Moscow (Red Square 3). The cinema was created by special order of GUM's architects, applying the very highest acoustic standards and refined theatre decoration. And there is plenty to admire while you wait for your film to start: early 20th century stucco moldings and the famous crystal chandeliers, which have been treated with a special chemical to stop them reverberating in tune with high- or low-frequency sounds. During film showings, the cinema's enormous windows are covered by stately velvet curtains, and instead of the usual seats, visitors recline in soft velvet chairs or spacious velvet sofas. In one hall, there in a bar where they serve Soviet-style cakes, sandwiches, champagne and lemonade in place of the usual fast-food snacks.

Moscow's legendary Khudozhestvenny cinema (Arbatskaya Square 14) can be regarded as an architectural landmark, a place for guided tours, and as a unique and memorable place to watch a film during a visit to the city. Tickets can cost as much as $100, because here you are not only watching an ordinary film while you fiddle with your popcorn - you are in a place visited by Lev Tolstoy and Sergey Yesenin, and were Sergey Eisenstein's film "Battleship Potemkin" was first shown. Several years ago, the building was thoroughly renovated using the blueprints from architect Franz Shechtel. Inside the cinema, they run specially designed tours, and visitors are thrilled to get their photos taken against the backdrop of the famous undulating staircase and the cinema's trademark bright-scarlet chairs. Moscow's film sets - complete immersion in the world of cinema

For a true movie buff, no trip to Moscow could be complete without a visit to Mosfilm (Ulitsa Mosfilmovskaya 1) - the huge film company spread across an area of 30 hectares, where wonderful Soviet films were shot and which continues to make Russian movies today. The grounds of Mosfilm are like a fantasy town with streets and squares from different historical epochs, its own piece of old-world Saint Petersburg and old Moscow, provincial Russian towns and even Paris. Mosfilm's museum contains some genuine rarities, including a collection of retro cars, vintage carriages, movies props, costumers and bits of scenery, stands with rare camera equipment and even the original Worker and Kolkhoz Woman sculpture by Vera Mukhina, familiar to all fans of Soviet film. This duo of Soviet heroes became the film studio's emblem and features in the intro sequence to every film it has made. You can now complete your fascinating film tour in Moscow's recently created Moskino cinema park (Krasnaya Pakhra, Quarter 107). The outdoor film set area is still under construction, but once complete it will extend across approximately 320 hectares and become the biggest cinema complex in Europe. The first phase is already open to filmmakers and tourists, however. Here you can take a walk around the streets of a 1940s town on the outskirts of Moscow, imagine yourself as a peasant in a little Russan village or a fisherman in a fishing port, or else as a resident of Wild West cowboy town. The Reichstag still stands on one cinema street, along with the still-intact wall dividing East and West Germany, and "bits" of European cities indistinguishable from the originals. In the near future, a 12th-century Kremlin will be added, along with medieval structures and pavilions representing a railway station and an airport.

Film buffs cannot leave Moscow without taking a look at the reconstruction of film director Sergey Eisenstein's office in the Cinema Museum at the National Economic Achievements #exhibition (Prospekt Mira 119, Pavilion 36, Dziga Vertov cinema hall). The museum space itself is a real journey through the history of Russian cinema, from the fairground era via avant-garde experiments to the Stalinist period and wartime cinema, followed by the thaw years, indie cinema and the perestroika cinema boom of the 1980s. You will be guided along the way by manuscripts, posters, commemorative items and drawings, and vintage cinema equipment. Eisenstein's office occupies a separate room in the museum. The historic building where the director lived in Moscow has not survived, but his room has been recreated using household items and personal effects from his Moscow home, along with the classical engravings and books amongst which he grew up. The eclectic furniture, coloured walls and interior design have all been faithfully reproduced to convey the vivid artistic atmosphere that Eisenstein created in his office. Come to Moscow, study its cinema life and make your own film here about your trip around Russia's surprising and diverse capital city!
