Premessa Brian e Stefano erano in straripante forma; risultato: Una Serata Meravigliosa, un concerto di ottimo livello. ottima acustica, ottima visuale (soprattutto per la giusta personale battaglia di Brian contro l'uso dei cellulari durante lo show). Due ore di spettacolo ai 1.000 all'ora, un viaggio sonoro veramente intenso e ricco di (quasi) tutti i pezzi classici.

Concerto sublime, memorabile! Grandissimi professionisti, non si sono mai fermati, musica e rock allo stato puro per quasi due ore di fila.

Placebo, a luglio torna in Italia la band di Brian Molko e Stefan Olsdal

I Placebo  tornano a suonare in Italia ,  Gigi Ariemma ci dice dove e quando.

I Placebo nascono dall’incontro tra  Brian Molko e  Stefan Olsdal che era già segnato dal destino. Difatti i due frequentavano la stessa scuola in Lussemburgo , l’American School of Luxemburg, quando erano poco più che bambini, ma la loro amicizia nacque a Londra  quando, dopo alcuni giri per l’Europa, si rincontrarono per pura coincidenza in metropolitana.

La fusione delle due menti creative dà vita a un suono nuovo, fatto di una miscela tra brit-pop , punk-rock e glam-rock con l’aggiunta dell’ elettronica.

La loro carriera viene lanciata da un artista che tutti avrebbero voluto come mentore, David Bowie. Il tour manager dei Placebo passa infatti i demo della band all’entourage del Duca Bianco, in cerca di un sostituto di Morrissey come supporter per l’ Outside Tour del 1995.  Da lì tutto esplode, la loro musica, i loro singoli, il loro primo album omonimo che li trascinerà alla consacrazione col secondo album Without You I’m Nothing  ed il singolo Pure Morning.

Il tour 2023

Potremo ascoltare live le tracce del loro ultimo album in studio Never Let Me Go del 2022 e i loro più grandi successi. Sul palco vedremo Brian Molko (voce, chitarra e tastiere) e Stefan Olsdal (chitarra, basso e tastiere), ma non il  batterista Steve Forrest,  che ha lasciato il gruppo nel 2015.

Per comporre i brani dell’album, questa volta i Placebo si sono affidati a un metodo mai sperimentato da loro: sono partiti dai titoli e hanno poi composto musica e testo. Sarà un piacere ritrovarli live sui palchi del nostro Paese.

Unfortunately I was deeply disappointed by what was supposed to be a great event to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary... and instead turned into an unworthy gig.

They started with Pure Morning... all good, and the fact that acoustics were far from perfect was tolerable because it always seems to be like that at loud gigs (before the guys at the mixer sort it out). Then Brian Molko said he completely lost his voice 2 weeks ago and despite he really hoped to get it back in time for these 2 London dates, voice hasn't come back... "but London we're gonna have a fucking great show anyway!!!"

Apart that they didn't. It was actually such a disappointment that I left before the encore. What's the point of listening to songs that are sang in a way that it's not a wilful variation of the traditional vocals, but it's simply a shitty version of the original because he doesn't have much voice at all? I could have been on the sodding stage then...

And from where I stood (standing, middle of the room, on the right) the acoustic remained absolutely crap throughout the gig. Too much base, too much noise really and not enough enough voice. Wow, what a disappointment. I think the decent and respectful thing to do would have been to cancel the shows and be unpopular for a few weeks before the new dates, but then really smash the place down with a worthy exhibition.

It was my third placebo's concert and it was amazing as always.

Personally I missed Fiona Brice's stage presence especially during Lazarus (one of my favorite song).

She is so "statuesque".

I have to say that Angela Chan was really good. It was clear that she was really nervous for her debut!

About her debut I didn't like that Brian didn't said a word. I mean it was her debut!!! But we all know Brian! He's not very talkative!

He spoke only once with the fans, he spoke for blaming one girl in the very front row who spent the whole concert texting and taking selfie giving her back to the stage. Still...we all know Brian! He hates cellphone and all who take photos/video during his concert and don't enjoy the concert.

Nothing new about the setlist, it's always the same, but I'd love to hear live "A Milion Little Pieces".

I was in the front rows and I had a wonderful view of the stage and the musician even when Brian asked us to stand up and dance. I knew he'd have asked something like this.

Their concerts are not concerts where you can stay sit.

The venue of the show was absolutely stunning! The "Teatro Antico di Taormina" is wonderful even when there are not events like this but for a concert it is super. At the back of the stage there wasn't any big screen so we were able to see the Etana volcano and the sea.

This was one of the best gigs I have been to and Placebo are one of the best bands I have seen ‎perform live. I wondered how they’d perform in a large arena having previously impressed me in the ‎much smaller O2 academy but boy did they step up.‎

Everything was spot on from the lighting, sound, setlist, music and performance with Brian Molko’s ‎unique brilliant voice singing every word like he meant it. ‎

A large chunk of the set was made up of less energetic songs but I found myself glued to the ‎performance and the delivery of I Know was one the best songs I have experienced live. During this ‎section enough more upbeat tracks and well known tracks were played to keep things flowing. ‎

As the final third of the show arrived, Brian Molko announced it was a birthday party and time to ‎dance. Then began an consecutive run of eight upbeat energetic tracks starting with For What It’s ‎Worth and ending with a three track encore of Teenage Angst, Nancy Boy and Infra-red with lots of ‎hand clapping, cheering, dancing and singing along. I’ve seen other reviews that have criticised the ‎order of the setlist but for me it worked perfectly. ‎

Placebo closed with their awesome cover of Running Up That Hill and rounded off a fantastic night. ‎

Placebo Announce 2023 North American Tour

Their first outing in nine years

Placebo are hitting the road in 2023 for their first North American tour in nine years. The band had previously delayed a fall 2022 trek.

The new 21-date stretch opens in Mexico City on April 17th and hits New York for two nights as well as Philadelphia, Austin, Los Angeles, and more. The tour wraps at The Fillmore in Denver on May 20th. Also on the docket are festival appearances at Shaky Knees and Sick New World . See the complete itinerary below.

Placebo most recently released a rendition of Tears for Fears’ “Shout” in September. Earlier this year, it was revealed that another definitive cover by the group, for Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” played an important behind-the-scenes role in Stranger Things Season 4.

The band’s latest LP, Never Let Me Go , was released in March and included the singles “Beautiful James” and “Surrounded by Spies.”

For the first time in 9 years, Placebo will be heading back to North America in 2023 to promote their new album 'Never Let Me Go' . The 18-date tour takes place in April/May visiting major U.S. markets like Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Canadian shows are planned for Montreal and Toronto. Joining the tour in support will be special guests Deap Vally and Cold Cave .

Placebo released their eighth studio album 'Never Let Me Go' on March 25th, 2022 via So Recordings and Elevator Lady. Their previous 2013 album 'Loud Like Love' reached #23 on Billboard's Alternative chart and was certified Gold in Austria and Germany. The following year, the band brought their Loud Like Love Tour to North America while co-headlining the inaugural Escape Music Festival along with Yeasayer . Since forming in 1994, the London-based rockers have received 2 Kerrang! Awards, 1 NRJ Music Award and 1 Žebřík Music Award.

Placebo announce rescheduled North American tour for 2023

The band were in September forced to pull their first North American tour in nine years due to logistical issues

Placebo have shared details of their rescheduled North American tour.

In September the band said they were “devastated” to shelve their first tour dates in the US, Canada and Mexico in nearly a decade after “issues beyond our control” . Fans were only given two days’ notice of the cancellation ahead of the planned launch.

Now, the duo comprising Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal have announced fresh dates for 2023. They kick off the tour in Mexico City, Mexico on April 17 before wrapping it at The Fillmore in Denver, Colorado, US on May 20.

Tickets for the 2023 dates go on general sale here this Friday (November 4) at 10am local time. All tickets for the original 2022 shows are still valid except for Vancouver, Canada where tickets are refundable at the point of purchase. Find details on pre-sales here .

NIH opens long COVID trials to evaluate treatments for autonomic nervous system dysfunction

Part of NIH’s RECOVER Initiative, trials will test at least three treatments for symptoms such as fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue.

Two phase 2 clinical trials to test the safety and effectiveness of three treatments for adults with autonomic nervous system dysfunction from long COVID have begun. The autonomic nervous system acts largely unconsciously and regulates bodily functions, such as heart rate, digestion and respiratory rate. Symptoms associated with autonomic nervous system dysfunction have been among those that patients with long COVID say are most burdensome. The trials are part of the National Institutes of Health’s Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative, a nationwide research program to fully understand, diagnose and treat long COVID. Other RECOVER phase 2 clinical trials testing treatments to address viral persistence and neurological symptoms, including cognitive dysfunction (like brain fog), launched in July 2023.

“As a long COVID patient, I know firsthand how disruptive and frightening symptoms including rapid heart rate, dizziness and fatigue can be. Patient representatives across RECOVER have also shared that these symptoms are some of the most debilitating symptoms of long COVID,” said Heather Marti, co-chair of the RECOVER National Community Engagement Group. “These trials are giving me and others with long COVID hope that it will restore our health and get us back to the lives we so desire.”

The two trials, collectively known as RECOVER-AUTONOMIC, are testing three potential treatments in adults who, following COVID-19, now have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). An autonomic nervous system disorder, POTS is characterized by unexpected fast heart rate, dizziness, fatigue or a combination of these symptoms when a person stands up from sitting or lying down. 

“The trials were developed with input from people living with long COVID, caregivers, community representatives, clinicians and scientists all with unique expertise in the field,” said Gary H. Gibbons, M.D., director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute at the NIH and co-chair of RECOVER. “We are grateful for their collective involvement which significantly shaped the trials and the choice of interventions.”

The trials will initially examine three potential treatments:

• Gamunex-C, a form of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), contains antibodies to help the body protect itself against infection from various diseases and is given by intravenous infusion.
• Ivabradine, an oral medication that reduces heart rate.
• Coordinator-guided, non-drug care, which includes a series of activities managed through weekly phone calls with a care coordinator, such as wearing a compression belt and eating a high-salt diet, which are recommended for patients with POTS to counteract excessive loss of fluids.  

“Patients who develop POTS after having COVID-19 are often severely limited by their symptoms, and there are no proven effective treatments,” said Christopher Granger, M.D., Duke University Medical Center, who is co-leading RECOVER-AUTONOMIC. “These interventions were selected because they have shown potential benefit in treating symptoms for POTS. The theory we’re testing is that they might also help individuals with long COVID.”  

Participants will first be randomly assigned to receive either IVIG, ivabradine or a placebo. Participants will then be randomly assigned a second time to receive either coordinator-guided, non-drug care or what is considered the usual non-drug care for POTS following COVID-19, such as diet and lifestyle recommendations. RECOVER-AUTONOMIC is an adaptive clinical trial, meaning if additional potential interventions emerge, they can quickly be added and studied in the trial.

Researchers plan to enroll 380 total participants at 50 sites across the United States. Teams at the trial sites will recruit participants from their health systems and surrounding communities. The current list of sites for the trials can be found on ClinicalTrials.gov (search: NCT06305793, NCT06305806 and NCT06305780) and additional sites will be added to this list as they begin enrolling participants.

Diversity among the trial participants is a high priority for RECOVER. To support diverse and inclusive representation, study sites are chosen based on geographic location, their connections to communities, and their track records for enrolling diverse research participants.
