5 Inspirations Behind Norah Jones' New Album 'Visions': Nightly Dreams, Collabs, Harmony Stacks & More

On her iridescent new album 'Visions,' out March 8, Jones embraces a newer collaborator in Leon Michels, and brings the stuff of phantasmagoria into immediate, organic relief.

Not all Norah Jones fans know this, but her debut 2002 album Come Away With Me was recorded in its entirety a whopping three times. Her latest, Visions , is no less detailed or exacting. But in true Blue Note fashion — it's out March 8, via said label — it sprang from an improvisatory, immediate space.

"I didn't really have a lot of preconceived ideas," Jones tells GRAMMY.com over Zoom, as a typically oppressive winter in New York blurs into spring. ("I like winter," she says. "Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one.") Despite this dearth of advance material, "We just wrote and played," Jones continues. "And, honestly, he's one of the most fun people I get to play music with."

"He" is none other than producer, multi-instrumentalist and two-time GRAMMY nominee Leon Michels ; Jones, a nine-time GRAMMY winner and 19-time nominee herself, previously worked with him on her first-ever holiday album, 2021's I Dream of Christmas .

Highlights like "Staring at the Wall," "Running" and "I'm Awake" show Jones is clearly the same artist who made classics like Come Away With Me and 2004's Feels Like Home — but in the ensuing decades, her work has assumed layers of adventurousness and dynamism.

"I love playing music with people and collaborating and trying new things, and I feel very at ease with myself and as myself in all those situations," Jones says. "Which is why it works, I think. I'm not trying to be somebody else when I do this. I'm comfortable, but I love to just try new clothes on musically."

Read on for a breakdown of people, concepts and things that inspired the making of Visions .

Her Podcast "Norah Jones Is Playing Along"

Over 32 episodes and counting, Jones has sat down with everyone from Jeff Tweedy to Seth MacFarlane to Laufey for extemporaneous collaborations and conversations. Jones notes that they're gearing up to release more episodes.

While she doesn't expressly note the podcast as a direct influence, its one-on-one format harmonizes with the dynamic between herself and Michel on Visions .

"I think anything you do influences you in some ways, even if you don't realize how," Jones says. "I've always been a pretty open musician, but I just feel like I get more and more open."

Her Creative Synergy With Leon Michels

When Jones had a shred of an idea — a few lyrics, a sketch of a melody — she would sit at a piano or guitar, Michels would get behind the kit, and they'd jam it out, garage band-style.

From there, the collaborators would add "a ton of harmonies" — more on that later — as well as bass, guitar, horns, organ, or whatever else would elevate the songs.

"The live energy you feel on those recordings is from me and him playing drums and piano or guitar," Jones says, "and just having fun."

Subconscious, Subterranean Zones

As Jones noted in the press materials, Visions came from a space beyond wakefulness.

" The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep," she said. She then evoked the lead single: "'Running' was one of them where you're half asleep and kind of jolted awake."

"I think it just all flowed really fast," Jones says in retrospect. "There were some songs that I had to tweak the lyrics more because they were slower to come, but most of them were pretty fast."

Stacking Harmonies — Christmas Style

Two years and change ago, I Dream of Christmas displayed a newer facet of Jones' sound: dense, layered harmonies. It worked so well on those yuletide tunes that Jones and Michels expanded on that concept for Visions .

"I'm always hearing harmonies, and I'm pretty quick at adding them," Jones recalls, and he's always, "Add a harmony, add a harmony, add a harmony." It's really part of the sound of the record."

Jones says this comes straight from her record collection. "It does come pretty naturally. It comes from years of loving music," she says. "I mean, I used to imitate Aretha's background singers. I think it was Cissy Houston. I love that kind of harmony." (Plus, she sang in jazz groups and high school and college, with 10 vocalists as a united throng.)

For Jones' upcoming tour dates on the East Coast, which span May and June, Michels won't be present. But those shimmering, layered vocals will.

Bringing Two More Singers To The Party

Along with four-time GRAMMY-winning drummer extraordinaire Brian Blade and the great, indie-oriented bassist Josh Lattanzi, Jones will perform alongside singers Sasha Dobson and Sami Stevens, who will also chip in on guitar and keys.

"We had our first rehearsal yesterday, and it sounds incredible," Jones says, aglow. She then considers the nuances of bringing studio creations to life onstage.

"Sometimes, you want to hit all the parts and sometimes you can and sometimes you can't," she says. "And you have to strip a song back and it sounds just as great, because it's a good song, and that's always a good feeling."

Onstage, though, Jones says they'll have all the resources to pull it off. Call it Visions come to life, and made material.

Keeping old times alive, Taylor Swift released her highly-anticipated Taylor’s Version of 1989 , and Duck Sauce is bringing back their 2011 "Barbra Streisand" sound with their new dance single, "LALALA."

Listen to these seven new tracks and albums that will gear you up for spooky season 2023.

RIIZE - "Talk Saxy"

K-pop’s rising stars, RIIZE, are making a vibrant musical return with their new single, "Talk Saxy," a hypnotic dance track that adds a level of depth to their sound even including a catchy saxophone riff. The lyrics focus on attraction to a stranger, and wanting to get their attention.

"Talk to me exactly what you feel / Hide nothing, show me all and everything / It’s okay, let your heart do what it wants / Get it straight to the point / Talk Saxy," RIIZE croons on the chorus.

This track follows their debut single "Get a Guitar," which launched their announcement that they’d signed with RCA Records. RIIZE is the first boy band group to hail from SM Entertainment since Kpop group NCT . RIIZE members, Shotaro and Sungchan, are notably from NCT, and departed from the K-pop group this year.

Dave Grohl, the frontman of Foo Fighters, graced jazz-pop singer Norah Jones’ podcast with special musical performances, including a cover of "Razor," a rare gem from the Foo Fighters 2005 In Your Honor album.

The track features a calm beat with a tranquil melody and guitar strings and piano, blending their strengths seamlessly. This track follows their collaboration on the In Your Honor track "'Virginia Moon."

During this podcast, Jones announced the release of a Black Friday Exclusive LP Record dropping on Nov. 24. Featuring a collection of podcast episodes with fellow musicians, this looks to be a real treat for fans of Jones and/or her estimable guests.

The four-part journey of Djesse has gained him five GRAMMY awards and 11 nominations. With Djesse Vol. 4 , collaborations such as "Little Blue" with Brandi Carlile to Ty Dolla $ign and Kirk Franklin are showcasing Collier’s versatility and knack for genre syntheses.. Tiësto with Tears for Fears, NIIKO X SWAE, GUDFELLA - " Rule The World (Everybody) "

American DJ & singer Tiësto dropped a fresh new track with Tears For Fears , NIIKO X SWAE and GUDFELLA for a reimagining of the 1985 "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." This heart-racing banger has blended stylistic worlds to imbue a classic song with an even catchier, dance-flavored beat.

NIIKO X SWAE originally released an unofficial remix on Soundcloud, which then went viral on social media.. "Rule The World (Everybody)" could certainly become a new party anthem to put on your ‘Halloweekend’ playlist.

Maria José Llergo - ULTRABELLEZA

Spanish singer María José Llergo released her newest album ULTRABELLEZA, following her 2020 Sanación. The album features songs that transverse between genres like "NOVIX," which features a intricate, Latin rhythm and "Superpoder," a star-studded pop song.

"Flamenco is like the blues," she said in a NY Times interview.   Liergo discusses how she incorporated Flamenco, a Spanish art form, into her album in hopes of keeping her cultural traditions rooted in the lyrics that "tell stories of survival — it’s always been a way for the most oppressed to escape."

Duck Sauce - "LALALA"

The hitmakers behind 2010 classics "Barbra Streisand" and "Big Bad Wolf" are back with another dubsmash single called, "LALALA." 9 Artist-Hosted Podcasts You Should Check Out Now: Sam Smith, David Guetta, Norah Jones & More

From Dua Lipa to Joe Budden, some of music's biggest names have added "podcast host" to their impressive resumes. Grab your headphones and take a listen to nine of the most insightful and creative shows led by artists.

As podcasts have become increasingly popular among listeners, they've also become a preferred playground for music makers to express themselves — and in turn, show a new side of their artistry.

Whether it's hours-long interviews courtesy of early adopter Questlove , breezy conversations with a musical accompaniment by Norah Jones , or a vital history lesson from Sam Smith , podcasts are allowing artists to further connect with their fans. And though there's already a disparate array of musician-led shows out there, it's seemingly just the beginning of a new podcast wave.

Below, get to know nine of the most interesting artist-hosted podcasts available.

Norah Jones is Playing Along

A relatively new addition to the podcast sphere, Norah Jones is Playing Along is exactly what it sounds like. Hosted by the "Come Away With Me" crooner, the show features Jones jamming on a piano with a cadre of her musician friends and colleagues. The show's guest list is similarly varied, with recent episodes including memorable conversations with indie folk artist Andrew Bird , country singer-songwriter Lukas Nelson and jazz virtuoso and Robert Glasper all of whom took viewers on a musical journey through their catalogs and beyond.

Broken Record with Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell

Known as music's wise sage, legendary music producer Rick Rubin showcases his zen energy and insatiable passion for music on this informative podcast, which he hosts alongside  journalist-author Malcolm Gladwell, New York Times editor Bruce Headlam and producer Justin Richmond. Much like Rubin's list of collaborators — which has ranged from everyone including Johnny Cash, Adele and Rage Against the Machine — the show zig-zags between insightful interviews with a range of music's most accomplished names, including Giles Martin , Feist , Usher , The Edge , Aaron Dessner , and Babyface .

Dua Lipa: At Your Service

Aside from her GRAMMY-winning music career, pop icon Dua Lipa has a bubbling entrepreneurial streak in the form of Service 95, a multi-platform lifestyle brand which includes a newsletter and special events. It also produces the popular podcast At Your Service, on which Lipa interviews a diverse range of personalities including musicians (collaborators Charli XCX and Elton John ), cultural luminaries (Dita Von Teese) and activists (Brandon Wolf) for laidback conversations about their respective careers.

Questlove Supreme

Amid his roles as a founding member of the Roots , bandleader on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," a prolific filmmaker and a best-selling author, Questlove adds podcast host to his rich cultural tapestry with Questlove Supreme. The show prides itself on loose, intimate and in-depth conversations with a who's who of music's luminaires, whether a multi-hour, emotional chat with Mariah Carey , an insightful conversation with trumpet legend Herb Alpert, or icons ranging from the late Wayne Shorter to Bruce Springsteen and manager Shep Gordon.

Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware

British songstress Jessie Ware teams up with her mother, Lennie, on this effervescent podcast, which showcases the "Free Yourself" singer munching on a delicious home cooked meal while having a conversation that's equally scrumptious. Whether the two are having pink salmon with Pink, eggplant pie with Shania Twain or spinach pie and florentines with Kim Petras , it all makes for an extremely listenable (and hunger-inducing) spin on the medium.

Flea's This Little Light

Earlier this year, Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Flea launched the interview series This Little Light, which zeroes in on the importance of music education. In short order, the podcast has already boasted heavy-hitter guests, including Cynthia Erivo , Patti Smith and Margo Price . "I wanted to do This Little Light to benefit my music school, the Silverlake Conservatory of Music ," he said in a statement upon its release. "The idea behind it being music education, falling in love with music and embarking on a musical journey for your life. Everybody's path is so different, and it's fascinating to learn how every musician came to music and developed their study of it over time."

Sam Smith Presents A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins to Today

Five-time GRAMMY winner Sam Smith hosts a touching and informative history of the AIDS crisis from a UK perspective — from the earliest, heart-wrenching days of the disease to modern-day tales, including the death of Terry Higgins (one of the region's earliest deaths) as well as breakthrough treatments. Meticulously researched and told in a documentary-style, the BBC podcast is equal parts inspiring and heartbreaking — but above all, demonstrates that artists can effectively tell stories beyond the realm of music, while raising awareness at the same time.

David Guetta: The Podcast

A departure from every other podcast on this list, dance music king and David Guetta strays from the interview format and lets the music do the talking. Guetta hosts this weekly hour-long podcast doubles as a playlist, which features a selection of songs handpicked by Guetta himself. Typically opening with a remix from Guetta himself (he recently featured his spin on Kim Petras' and Sam Smith's GRAMMY-winning hit "Unholy,") the show then explores a variety of electronic tracks from a disparate list of artists, including tracks from dance music mavens Olivier Giacomotto, Idris Elba and Robin Shulz.

Updated Monday, May 22, to include information about the re-air date for "A GRAMMY Salute To The Beach Boys."

"A GRAMMY Salute To The Beach Boys" will re-air on Monday, May 29, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network, and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.

If you missed the CBS telecast, never fear: the thrilling special is  rebroadcasting on Monday, May 29, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network, and will be available to stream on demand on Paramount+ .

Weezer Gave "California Girls" A Shot In The Arm

The Weez was a natural choice for a Beach Boys bash — the GRAMMY winners have worn that influence on their sleeve throughout their career — from the harmony-stuffed Blue Album . to their love letter to the West Coast, the White Album .

And while Fall Out Boy's transmutation of "Do You Wanna Dance" into supercharged pop-punk was a joy, Weezer's version of "California Girls" was satisfying in a different way.

Therein, frontman Rivers Cuomo threaded his chunky power chords into the familiar arrangement masterfully. His head-turning, song-flipping guitar work in the outro was also gracefully executed.

John Legend Sang A Commanding "Sail On Sailor"

The rocking-and-rolling "Sail On Sailor" leads off the Beach Boys' deeply underrated 1973 album Holland . On that cut, the lead vocal isn't taken by an original member, but one of their two South African additions at the time: the brilliant Blondie Chaplin.

Fifty years ago, Chaplin channeled the stouthearted tune through his punchy midrange; John Legend possesses a similar one. In his hustling, wolfish performance at the piano, the 12-time GRAMMY winner gave this dark-horse Beach Boys classic the gusto it deserves.

Brandi Carlile Stunned With A Capella "In My Room" Verse

Nine-time GRAMMY winner Brandi Carlile is an eminent and versatile creative force; it's easy to imagine her nailing almost any song in the Beach Boys’ catalog — even the   weird ones .

That said, this was more or less a night of hits — so Carlile took "In My Room" head on, and the results were spectacular. Even better was when the backing band dropped out for a verse, highlighting the song's proto- Pet Sounds   solitude and introspection.

"Now it's dark/And I'm alone, but/I won't be afraid," Carlile sang, only joined by two harmonists. Mostly unadorned, she radiated a sense of inner strength.

Norah Jones Gorgeously Pared Back "The Warmth Of The Sun"

"The Warmth of the Sun" has always been a fan favorite for its radiant vocal interplay, but   Norah Jones   proved it's just as powerful with one voice front and center.

Sure, the nine-time GRAMMY winner had harmonists behind her. But while   Brian Wilson   shared the spotlight with the other Boys in the original tune, she was front and center, teasing out its mellow, jazzy undercurrents.

St. Vincent & Charlie Puth Plumbed The Atmosphere Of  Pet Sounds

The Beach Boys' most famous album by some margin, 1966’s   Pet Sounds , was well represented at "A GRAMMY Salute To The Beach Boys."

Beck performed a witty "Sloop John B"; Mumford & Sons drew hymnal energy from "I Know There's An Answer"; LeAnn Rimes drew lonesome power from "Caroline, No."

But two performances in particular captured the singular atmosphere of the album — whimsical, hopeful, melancholic, longing, sophisticated, strangely exotic. One was   Charlie Puth 's "Wouldn't It Be Nice," which strapped on the album's aesthetic like a rocket and took off.

The other was St. Vincent’s captivating take on "You Still Believe In Me," which highlighted the harpsichord melody to spectral effect.

Near the end, when the three-time GRAMMY winner launched into the "I wanna cry" outro, it was hard to not get chills — the kind the Beach Boys have given us for 60 years.

May 19, 2024

Mac Wilson was little more than a first-year college student when Norah Jones broke out with her 2002 release, Come Away With Me . Today, Mac is a 20-year veteran in radio, and Jones is a music-industry veteran with nine Grammy wins.

Jones’ latest album is Visions , released on March 8, 2024, and the track “Running” has been a particular favorite on The Current. Checking in from her home in New York, Jones spoke with Mac Wilson about the new album, and she also reflects on her Grammy Awards experiences to date.

Listen to the interview above, and read a transcript below.

Interview Transcript

Edited for clarity and length.

Mac Wilson: Hello, my name is Mac Wilson from The Current, I'm joined by none other than Norah Jones. Hello, Norah.

Norah Jones: Hi, how are you?

Mac Wilson: I'm doing well. Where are you calling in from today?

Norah Jones: I'm in New York.

Mac Wilson: So did you get an opportunity to get out and see the eclipse earlier this week?

Norah Jones: I did. I did. Yeah, it was really fun. Especially fun in New York City, because it's just fun for that kind of thing to happen in the big city. You know, everybody's looking up and together, and there's a lot of community feelings.

Mac Wilson: So we were way out in rural Indiana, so we were away from everybody, so we had the exact opposite experience with people, but really was it one of those things where people were out in the street, like, "Hey, let's share in this experience together"?

Norah Jones: Yeah. Because also, it was hard to get glasses at the last second. I knew a lot of people trying to find glasses the day of, and they couldn't. And there were people at work, you know; people were inside working, outside on the streets just for a minute borrowing strangers' glasses. People were lending their glasses to strangers, because like, it's just a sweet thing to do.

Mac Wilson: Yeah, it's that idea of community. And it sort of brought us together. And, like, it seems like a cliche, but they say, you know, it's good things that bring us together as a people sometimes, which is a cool thing to see.

Norah Jones: Definitely. It was a sweet moment in New York.

People watch a solar eclipse from a crowded street in New York

Mac Wilson: So I was on my way back from vacation, and they phoned me up, they were like, "Hey, do you want to talk to Norah Jones today?" And I'm like, "Well, yeah, that's gonna be exciting." And as I was thinking about it coming in, working in radio for 20 years, people ask me, they're like, "Who's the most famous person that you've interviewed?" And I never have a good answer for them. And now I'm sitting here, and I'm like, "Oh, it's probably Norah Jones." So that's exciting. It's intimidating in a very good way. It's a pleasure to have you on the phone. So Norah, I want you to think about your career and all the people that you've met in and performed with, collaborated with, or just run across, what's an instance of one where you were like, genuinely, like awestruck, and to the point of almost intimidation beforehand.

Norah Jones: Probably when I was younger, I was definitely more like that. But I think with Ray Charles, I met him and I just started crying immediately. And a few months later, I got to record with him, which was crazy. I'm glad I had that moment where I cried, where we weren't recording together. It was just in passing. And then I got to record with him, and it was pretty cool.

Mac Wilson: Well, that's funny. I was just going to ask you about your first Grammy ceremony. And then I'm like, "Oh, right! She recorded with Ray Charles, when he did his final record and you one Record of the Year." I don't know exactly what the count is off the top of my head of folks who have won Record of the Year twice. But that's a that's a pretty cool thing.

Norah Jones Grammys

Norah Jones: Oh, yeah. I never thought about it like that.

Mac Wilson: Like there's a couple of folks who have famously won it back to back; I think Roberta Flack and U2 did it in back-to-back years, and Billie Eilish just did it recently, too. But I mean, you're on the list, too, for that collaboration. And that's pretty cool.

Norah Jones: It's funny, I never would have thought myself on that list. I guess I thought of that award is really for him, not me, even though my name is on it, too. But yeah, that's cool.

Mac Wilson: So Come Away With Me , that came out when I was probably a freshman in college. And then you won every imaginable Grammy, it seems, at that ceremony. So I'll admit, at the time, I was rooting for Bruce Springsteen, but you wound up winning Album of the Year and Record of the Year and Song of the Year and everything else. Was there ever a moment where you're like, "Oh, my gosh, the number of names that I came out on top of at this Grammys!" I'm sure that those thoughts entered your head at the time, but like, at what stage did it like really hit you?

Norah Jones: I didn't. I think I was just embarrassed the whole time because I won one, and then I won two, and then I won three, and then I was — I got a lot of camera time. And then when it came to the end, I think everybody thought Bruce was going to win. And then I won. And then I was just kind of embarrassed.

Mac Wilson: Where do you keep your Grammys today?

Norah Jones: They're in my basement on a shelf.

Mac Wilson: Perfect, that's as good a place as any for them. So you've had a long career. Let's go back up to the future now. So Visions is the name of the new record. We've been enjoying "Running," in particular, that's a just a nice vibe that we've got for that when we've been playing. What was the the genesis of writing that one?

Norah Jones: I kind of started writing that song in the middle of the night, sort of one of those songs where you're falling asleep, and then you wake up with a little melody, and I recorded it. And maybe a year or two later, I brought it in when I was recording with Leon Michels, who produced the record. And I just had a bunch of ideas, I wanted to see what we could finish them as and what they were and I didn't really know what it was, but he played drums and I played piano, and we recorded the basic track, and then we just kind of built it from there.

Close-up portrait of a woman in profile

Mac Wilson: Over your career, you've worked with different producers on any given record. What did Leon specifically bring to the table on this one that maybe you hadn't had in the past or is just different?

Norah Jones: I mean, everybody has their own style, right? Everybody has their own way of speaking, their own way of making music, their own stamp of sound. And I think Leon is just one of those people where everything he does is cool. And he's not trying to be cool or aesthetically trying to put his stamp on anything. He's just cool. And he's got an organic way of making music and getting sounds. You know, he's got a lot of cool microphones and instruments in his little studio. Most of the record, including "Running," was just me and him playing all the instruments in his little studio. And that's why it sounds the way it does, I think. It's just kind of a little imperfect but has all the good vibes, you know? And that's what I like. We had a lot of fun making it.

A man DJs a record-release event

Mac Wilson: So whether Leon or his friends, there's roots with them and bands like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, as you had several of the Dap-Kings perform on the record. Were you a fan of or are you a fan of Sharon's music? You said that "Running" came to you in the middle of the night. Was that the case with a lot of the songs on the record where it's exactly that, where you're falling asleep at night, and it's like, "OK, I gotta get up and put this down."

Norah Jones: Oh, yeah, I always loved her. But I really know Leon more from the last few years, listening to his band, El Michels Affair, and all the stuff he produces is so cool. But yeah, I love that whole crew. They're amazing. And Sharon Jones was amazing. And it's nice to see all those guys doing so well and doing different things.  Yeah, either that or in a meditation or in the bathtub. Really all the places where it's quiet. On a walk, if I don't put my headphones on, then I can work on a song in my head. A lot of stuff just turns around in my head. And that's where it comes from. But that stuff doesn't show itself if you don't have any quiet moments in your day. And with the phones and everything, it's so hard to have that now and busy lives. So I've definitely sort of tried to carve that out a little more for myself now.

Mac Wilson: Are you able to work, essentially work from home on your songs? Or do you like rent out a space where you separate yourself? You noted a meditation in there, but just the process of working? Like how does that fit into your day-to-day life?

Norah Jones: It really doesn't, unless it appears in my head. If something's inspiring, I'll record it on my voice notes. And usually, then I have to go run an errand. And so I'll work on it whenever I get time. I found that being on airplanes is a good place to go through all voice notes and come up with song ideas and finish stuff. But really the VoiceMemo app is the best thing. I mean, before phones were so prevalent, I had like a little voice recorder I would carry around with me for that reason. So it's more like capture the lightning when it strikes and work on it later, whenever that is. But no, I don't rent out a place. It's just sort of whenever I have time.

Mac Wilson: What are your plans for bringing the songs to a live setting, if any?

Norah Jones: I have a tour booked, and we're going to start in a few weeks. And I have a really incredible band. I have two really incredible female singers with me this time, which I've never had, such a strong harmony game on tour. So I'm really excited for that. And all the guys in my band also sing — the two guys, the bass player and the drummer — sing as well. So we have the potential for some crazy harmonies, which is all over the record, so that's great.

A woman smiles while playing piano in a railway station

Mac Wilson: We are chatting with Norah Jones, and I'm thinking, while I've got Norah Jones on the line, we're gonna go to another spot in your catalogue that I've always been curious about: It's one of the collaborations that you did with Danger Mouse for the Rome album that he did when you did vocals on "Black," where it's very, very famously in a pivotal scene of Breaking Bad . So how did the process go when that song got cleared for it? Did you know exactly when that song was going to be played? That it was going to be at such a crucial moment? Or just walk through what that experience was like.

Norah Jones: I can't remember, but I think I must have cleared it. I didn't write the song, so I don't know if I had to clear it or not being an artist on it. But I think I know that it was happening, but I don't think I realized it was happening until I was watching that episode, because I did watch the show. So I didn't expect it to come up in that episode. Or I didn't remember, you know? I wasn't thinking about it. You know, you clear these things months in advance, and you don't know which episode is coming up. You're not like keeping track. But it was crazy!

Breaking Bad

Mac Wilson: Yeah, like I'm thinking of the story of of Jackson Browne where he signed off on the use of Nico and "These Days" in Royal Tenenbaums . And he totally forgot about until he was in the theater. Watching the movie, he goes, "Boy, that sounds like me," and then he remembered signing off on it. So it sounds like it was a similar experience for you.

Norah Jones: Yeah, yeah. I don't think it's something you really keep track of until afterwards.

Mac Wilson: Well, Norah, it's been a joy having you on the line, you know, diving into a little bit of stuff from your career and some of the new stuff as well. Visions is the album, and you're out on the road as well. And you got to see the eclipse. That's great stuff all around. Norah, thank you for joining me on the line today.

Norah Jones: Thank you.

Mac Wilson: Thank you so much.

Norah Jones: Thanks a lot! Have a great day.

Mac Wilson: Thank you, Norah. Take care.

Norah Jones: OK. Bye.
