GRAMMY award-winning collective  Maverick City Music  and 16-time GRAMMY winner  Kirk Franklin have  announced a 14-date extension to their massive coast-to-coast  KINGDOM  arena tour.  Over the past few months, the two acts have been shattering records with more than 10,000 fans in attendance each night, selling out venues like Crypto.com Arena, and consistently landing in the Top 10 of all tours on Pollstar. Produced by Live Nation and Undivided Touring, the new dates include shows at Barclays Center (NYC), TD Garden (Boston), State Farm Arena (ATL), and more. For full tour routing, please see below.

Atlanta, GA (September 1, 2022) GRAMMY award-winning collective Maverick City Music and 16-time GRAMMY winner Kirk Franklin  have announced a 14-date extension to their massive coast-to-coast KINGDOM Arena Tour . Today, GRAMMY nominated, Billboard Music Award winning, platinum-selling, multi-racial, multi-cultural, and genre-bending collective Maverick City Music and 16-time GRAMMY Award winning artist, songwriter, producer and cultural icon Kirk Franklin have announced the Kingdom Tour featuring special guests Jonathan McReynolds and Housefir es . 

Produced by Live Nation and Undivided, the 37-city tour kicks off on June 1st at FTX Arena in Miami, FL making stops across North America in Atlanta, Toronto, Nashville, Los Angeles and more before wrapping up in Denver, CO at Ball Arena on July 31st. At the conclusion of the Kingdom Tour, a collaboration album, Kingdom , will follow featuring Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin.

Five-time Grammy nominated super group Maverick City Music has been making noise since forming in 2018.  Featuring a rotating group of members that include Chandler Moore, Naomi Raine, Dante Bowe, Lizzie Morgan, MJ George, Aaron Moses, Joe L Barnes and Brandon Lake, Maverick City Music brings together a diverse array of voices, drawing inspiration from soul, gospel, R&B, and indie rock. ABOUT KIRK FRANKLIN

Kirk Franklin is a 16-time GRAMMY Award winning songwriter, arranger, and producer. After over 30 years of continuous hits and tremendous success bridging Hip-Hop, Pop, and Gospel together, Franklin’s Love Theory bowed at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart and kept the position on lock for thirty-nine weeks. The vibrant track marked the singer’s record-extending seventh #1 and his second start atop the chart. Contemporary Christian artists Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin embark on a co-headlining tour to spread the gospel together this 2022. These award-winning acts will traverse North America on a 37-date trek called the Kingdom Tour! And there’s excellent news for fans in Ohio! The Kingdom Tour will stop at the Blossom Music Center on Friday, 17th June 2022! Let Maverick City Music and Kirk Franklin inspire you and energize your faith as they perform their most-beloved hits and fan-favorite tracks. Since 2018, Maverick City Music has given contemporary Christian artists a voice and a creative outlet. The collective comprises singers and musicians from diverse backgrounds, providing them an avenue to express their faith and themselves. Founded by Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay, Maverick City Music is not afraid to experiment with music and explore different genres.

In 2019, the group released their first EP entitled Maverick City, Vol. 1. The record debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart. Maverick City Music released another successful record with their debut album, Maverick City, Vol. 3, which debuted at number 6 on the Top Christian Albums and number 2 on the Top Gospel Albums.

In 2021, the group’s debut live album Maverick City, Vol. 3 Part 1 won a Billboard Music Award for Top Gospel Album. In the same year, they won New Artist of the Year at the GMA Dove Awards. In 2022, Maverick City won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.

Fellow gospel artist Kirk Franklin is no stranger to Dove Awards. Currently, the Reigning King of Urban Gospel has 22 Dove Awards. In addition, he has also won 16 Grammy Awards throughout his career. Franklin has released nine studio albums, seven of which peaked at number 1 on the Top Gospel Albums chart. During the early days of his career, Franklin debuted with a choir and worked as their director. Known as Kirk Franklin & the Family, the group included 17 choir members and himself as the lead. In 2001, Franklin decided to work as a solo artist and released the Rebirth of Kirk Franklin in 2002.

LONDON — The Mets at least received something more than a sightseeing tour or two for their four days across the pond.

If a ninth-inning comeback against Phillies closer Jose Alvarado wasn’t enough, there was the drama that followed. Drew Smith was thrust into a bottom-of-the-ninth jam and bent but didn’t break.

And then a highlight-reel double play allowed the Mets to escape with a 6-5 victory in front of 55,074 at London Stadium.

Nick Castellanos’ broken-bat squib with the bases loaded was grabbed barehanded by catcher Luis Torrens, who stepped on the plate, spun and fired off-balance to first, recording the final outs.

“The first thing I thought about was getting the out at home,” said Torrens, who got spiked on the left foot by sliding Garrett Stubbs on the play. “And then if we could get the out at first, this is what we wanted to do.”

Smith entered the cauldron after Reed Garrett had allowed two runners to reach base with one out in a game the Mets led 6-4.

Bryce Harper singled to load the bases before Alec Bohm walked to force in a run. Smith then got the broken-bat squib that became the game-ender.

“That is what you look for as a reliever,” Smith said. “I would have loved to come in and strike out Harper and strike out Bohm and be done with it — that is the ideal situation. I made it a little tougher on myself but made some pitches when I needed to and came through and that’s what it’s all about.”

The Mets finished with a split in the London Series in winning for the fourth time in five games.

This one included a three-run rally in the top of the ninth against Alvarado in which Mark Vientos’ infield single, Pete Alonso’s hit-by-pitch and a passed ball gave the Mets their runs.

Brandon Nimmo was asked if he thought this latest victory could serve as a spark for the team.

“We just swept the Nationals, too,” Nimmo said. “Have we been looking for a spark or looking to build on things? My opinion, personally, is we are looking to continue to build. We have been playing much better baseball for the last two weeks I think.”

Tyrone Taylor walked leading off the ninth against Alvarado to start the go-ahead rally.

Jeff McNeil, in his return to the lineup following a week on the bench, followed with his second single of the game before Vientos’ slow chopper to third allowed the tying run to score.

After Torrens walked to load the bases, Francisco Lindor struck out and Alonso got plunked to force in the go-ahead run. J.T. Realmuto’s ensuing passed ball gave the Mets a 6-4 lead.

“I was really proud of the team,” Nimmo said. “It took everybody contributing.”

David Dahl’s pinch-hit homer against Dedniel Nunez in the seventh gave the Phillies a 4-3 lead after the Mets had rallied to tie the game the previous inning.

But Jake Diekman and Garrett combined for the next two scoreless innings, allowing the opportunity for a rally in the ninth.

Jose Quintana continued his lackluster season with a blah performance that lasted only 3 ²/₃ innings. Over that stretch he allowed three earned runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The veteran left-hander saw his ERA rise from 5.17 to 5.29 — hardly inspiring for a team that has impressive rookie Christian Scott only a phone call away at Triple-A Syracuse.

Quintana nearly got stomped in the first inning, loading the bases on a single and two walks, but got Bohm to hit a double-play grounder, with the run scoring. Quintana kept the damage at 1-0 by next retiring Castellanos.

The Mets also turned a double play behind Quintana after he plunked Edmundo Sosa to begin the second. But Quintana’s luck expired in the fourth, when he surrendered two additional runs on four hits and was removed from the game.

Sosa smashed an RBI double following Castellanos’ single to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. Whit Merrifield’s ensuing RBI single stretched the Mets’ deficit to three runs.

Danny Young replaced Quintana and walked Kyle Schwarber to load the bases before striking out Realmuto to escape.

The Mets awoke against starter Taijuan Walker and reliever Gregory Soto in the sixth.

After Torrens singled and Alonso drew a two-out walk, Nimmo sliced a double against Soto for the Mets’ first run. J.D. Martinez followed with a two-run single that tied it 3-3.

“I think the people in London got to see a really well-played and fun game and get that playoff-like baseball for a day,” Nimmo said. “Hopefully it leaves them wanting more.”

Joe Mazzulla watches as many Manchester City matches as he can, and there’s a clear symmetry there between that English soccer powerhouse and his Boston Celtics.

They had games on the same date 10 times during the Celtics’ regular season. When Man City prevailed, Mazzulla was thrilled and the Celtics — for whatever reason — just happened to go 9-0 in their games on those days. When Man City didn’t win, the Celtics were 0-1.

He’s struck up a friendship with Man City manager Pep Guardiola; the two exchanged jerseys when Mazzulla visited his team over the NBA All-Star break, and Guardiola had courtside seats for Game 1 of the NBA Finals in Boston. It’s part of what makes Mazzulla tick. He truly believes that coaches can help other coaches whether the games are the same or not.

“I think as you get into this, you start to realize, once you’re in a position, nobody can really relate to you other than people in those positions,” Mazzulla said Saturday in Boston, where the Celtics will play host to Game 2 of the NBA Finals against Dallas on Sunday night. “So, you develop a bond with other coaches, and you know what they are going through, and you know what the challenges are and the opportunities and the situation you’re in. I think it’s really important that we all stick together.”

He has relationships with Boston’s other pro coaches: Red Sox manager Alex Cora, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery and new Patriots coach Jerod Mayo, someone Mazzulla has been close with for a while.

“Jerod and I got close as assistants, just how would you do things when it’s your opportunity, what have you learned from the head coaches that you’ve worked for,” Mazzulla said. “And now that we are in this position, it’s helping each other with the transition and the different experiences.”

Mazzulla visiting Man City and talking to players there, that was big news. Guardiola being at Game 1, that commanded much attention. Boston coaches supporting one another, obviously that’s going to be very well-received by the city’s sports-mad fanbase.

But there’s plenty of coach-to-coach talking that Mazzulla doesn’t do publicly as well.

A few months ago, he got on a Zoom call to talk to players at Division II’s Gannon University — because he knew the coaching staff. Mazzulla has Division II roots as well, from his time as a coach at Glenville State and Fairmont State. It generated no attention, probably because Mazzulla didn’t do it to seek attention. He just wanted to pass along some words of encouragement.

“Joe, it’s phenomenal what he’s done,” said former Gannon coach Jordan Fee, now an assistant at Florida Atlantic — where the new head coach, John Jakus, is very close with Mazzulla as well. “But it’s not a surprise to me. For those of us that knew Joe from Glenville State or Fairmont State, it’s not a surprise for us that he’s where he’s at. Some things fell his way, maybe, but greatness is greatness. People recognized it in him.”

GAME 2 TRENDS

Dallas surely wouldn’t mind seeing form hold in Game 2 of the NBA Finals.

The Mavericks are 3-0 in Game 2s so far in these playoffs, all on the road, winning by one, three and nine points.

Dallas is trying to become the first team in NBA history to go 4-0 in Game 2s in a single playoff run. It would also become the first team to go 4-0 in Game 2s in a postseason — regardless of location — since the Los Angeles Lakers during the bubble playoffs of 2020.

“I think there’s no panic with this group,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “We didn’t play well in Game 1. Give credit to Boston; they did. But it’s a series and we don’t just look to capitalize on just one game. We’ve lost Game 1 a lot of times, and we’ve responded. We believe that we can respond in Game 2.”

The Celtics are 1-2 in Game 2s so far in this postseason, all those games being played in Boston. They lost to Miami by 10, lost to Cleveland by 24 and beat Indiana by 16 in the Eastern Conference Finals.

It should be noted that Game 2s are the only vulnerable spot Boston has had in this postseason. The Celtics are 12-0 in all other games of a series.

“Every series is different. Every game is different,” Celtics center Al Horford said. “For us, we understand it’s a big challenge. We are not really thinking about the past. We have to focus on this Game 2 and make sure we do the things we need to do to put ourselves in position to win a game.”

KYRIE IN BOSTON

As expected, Mavericks guard — and former Celtics guard — Kyrie Irving wasn’t the most popular guy in TD Garden for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night. Nobody thought it would be a warm welcome from Boston fans, and it wasn’t.

Irving is just fine with that.

“I don’t expect to be celebrated by everybody,” he said Saturday. “I’m going to still be aware that a lot of people want to see me fail. But again, I think I pay attention more to the way that I’m celebrated from people that love me unconditionally and I go home and have a peace of mind.

“You know, thinking about my time in Boston, I could go down a myriad of things that none of you in here know that I was dealing with, and I don’t think a lot of people would care. I think a few people would care and want to hear about it, and I would leave that space open in the future if you ever want to hear about it.”

Boston’s current eight-game playoff winning streak is the longest in Celtics history. Another win on Sunday, and the streak starts to hit rarefied air.

Golden State has the record for consecutive wins in a single postseason — 15 in 2017. San Antonio won 12 in a row in 1999, and the Los Angeles Lakers had 11-game win streaks in 1989 and 2001.

Cleveland won 10 straight in 2016 and 2017, the Spurs won 10 in a row in 2012 and New Jersey had a 10-game run in 2003.

So, if Boston wins Game 2 on Sunday and pushes its win streak to nine, it’ll join the 2021 Phoenix Suns, the 1996 Chicago Bulls and the 1982 Lakers for the ninth-longest run in a single playoff run in NBA history.

The Phillies delivered a six-run outburst in the fourth inning of Saturday’s opener in London and took Game 1 by a 7-2 final, backing starting pitcher Ranger Suarez with 11 hits. Bryce Harper led off that fourth inning with his 15th homer of the season, while Whit Merrifield homered in the same inning and Nick Castellanos crushed a solo shot in the eighth. That was more than enough support for Suarez, who improved to 10-1 on the season with 5.2 solid innings, scattering eight hits with six strikeouts.
