Lorde will release her long-awaited third album, Solar Power , on August 20th via Republic Records.

The album announcement arrives a couple of weeks after Lorde released the album’s title track , which marked her first new music since the arrival of her last record, 2017’s Melodrama . Lorde co-wrote and produced “Solar Power” with frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, while Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers provided backing vocals on the song.

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde said in a statement. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

In light of its environmental inspiration, Lorde will be releasing Solar Power in a disc-less format, instead offering fans what’s described in a press release as an “eco-conscious Music Box.” The set will come with extra visual content, handwritten notes, exclusive photographs, and a download card, which will come with two bonus tracks and other surprises.

Along with announcing the album, Lorde revealed dates for a world tour in support of Solar Power . The North American leg is set to kick off   April 3rd, 2022 at the Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee and wrap May 7th at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, California. Lorde’s ‘Solar Power’ tour shines bright at Boston’s Wang Theatre

Sarah Lukowski , Arts Editor

April 18, 2022

Lorde’s “Solar Power” tour at the Wang Theatre on April 13 summoned a week of warm temperatures to the City of Boston in a vibrant and enthusiastic concert.

The New Zealand pop singer recently embarked on her third tour for her third studio album “Solar Power,” which was released in August. Boston was her fifth stop on the tour and Lorde graciously expressed her gratitude to the crowd and created lively energy throughout the sold-out show.

“We have a sold-out theater tonight and I want you to f*** it up,” Lorde exclaimed before playing “Team.”

And that’s exactly what the hoards of devoted fans did – jumping out of their seats and raising their hands in the air for our savior, Lorde.

lorde tour boston

The Grammy award-winning artist sang a variety of 22 songs, with most of the set-list from “Solar Power,” but also included hit songs from her first album “Pure Heroine” and her second – and most beloved album – “Melodrama.”

The performance was split into three acts, each with a quick outfit change. Lorde’s concert wardrobe consisted of a silky green pantsuit, a chic yellow dress and a bright pink two-piece set – effortlessly exuding all things Vitamin D.

There was a perfect balance of music and the progression of songs flowed with ease and fluidity. One moment you were happy-crying and reminiscing back to your 15-year-old self when listening to “Ribs,” while the next moment you’re pouring your heart out to “Hard Feelings,” then jumping up and down to “Supercut.”

However, the 100-minute concert did begin with some technical difficulties. After Lorde opened with the interlude “Leader of the New Regime” in a mystical performance, the mic cut out and she was unable to sing her next song. This caused confusion from fans, but Lorde, as the true professional she is, did not let this bring her down. Although you couldn’t hear her, she laughed about it and still embraced the moment.

“Thank you so much for being gracious right now, there’s always some God in the machine that’s trying to f*** with us, but there’s no better place for that to happen than Boston because I’ve been looking forward to seeing you guys for so long,” she said.

The music quickly began again and although it was a rocky start, she was in high spirits for the rest of the show.

The last time Lorde toured was for her album “Melodrama” in 2017-2018 and she was grateful to be back.

The beautiful thing about Lorde is how self-aware she is of her music and the impact it has on her fans. When introducing the next song, “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” she asked the audience if they were ready to cry. Yes, Ella, we all were prepared to sob at this somber song about growing older. This is a familiar feeling we all could relate to and the audience felt connected at this moment as she sat down to sing.

The concert could not be complete without a blast of bright yellow confetti. When Lorde sang the rhythmic, upbeat line “blink three times when you feel it kicking in” from “Solar Power,” confetti shot out from the stage, floating down around the theater for a brief moment.

lorde tour boston

Lorde’s singing and animated dancing weren’t the only important elements of the show. The stage design perfectly reflects the album’s theme of a whimsical, serene summer spent soaking up the sun.

The main focus of the stage is a large sundial that rotates through the concert. It also served as a staircase for Lorde and her band to walk up in a few songs such as “Fallen Fruit” and “Mood Ring.” Underneath the earth-toned dial is a circular structure that Lorde sits on and stands against for some of her more melancholic songs. All of these components, along with her band in muted-yellow suits, captures the true essence of the album.

Lorde may have been able to sell out a larger venue like TD Garden, but her intimate performance at the Wang Theatre was perfect for the flirty and toned-down vibe of “Solar Power.”

The folksy “Solar Power” might be one of Lorde’s most under-appreciated albums. It received a slew of mixed reviews, including a rating of 6.8 on Pitchfork compared to “Melodrama’s” rating of 8.8. But hopefully, with this new tour, rising temperatures and beach season looming near, listeners can appreciate the enigma and breath of summer air that is “Solar Power.”

Lorde Concert Review: Pop Icon Brings Intimate Artistry to Boston

{shortcode-496d7042bddb85013cd0660713ba29adcf9002cf}

New Zealand pop star Lorde has undergone a renaissance since the last time she performed in Boston in 2018. It all started in the aftermath of her sophomore album “ Melodrama ” and the subsequent world tour to promote the project. After months spent on the road following the release of the critically-acclaimed album that cemented her auteur status, the singer retreated from the music world and “went back to living [her] life,” as she told The New York Times in an August 2021 interview . During this self-imposed sabbatical, she turned to the natural world, sunlight, and domesticity, and it was there that she found her inspiration for her latest album, 2021’s “ Solar Power .”

Now, Lorde is on a world tour in support of the album that has seen her on the road since her April 3 show in Nashville and will last all the way until March 2023 in Perth, Australia. She stopped at the Boch Center’s Wang Theater in Boston on April 12 for a show that established her as a pop icon dedicated to craft, meaning, and connection above all else. Every decision that went into the crafting of the performance — from the deceptively simple stage design to her fluorescent outfits — could only be described as intentional, conveying the image of an artist who knows exactly what she’s doing and why she’s doing it.

Though lighter-sounding and more thematically nuanced than her past works (2017’s “Melodrama” and 2013’s “ Pure Heroine ” are both driven by the insatiable cravings of youth), “Solar Power” showcases an artist at her best. No longer is Lorde bound to create and recreate “all the music you loved at 16,” as she sings in her self-reflective single “Stoned at the Nail Salon.” Instead, she deftly explores the climate crisis (and the fragile state of the future), satirizes white new-age wellness culture, and breaks down deep insecurities over the course of the 12-track album. Her sonic and thematic maturity is disarming throughout. All this was on full display at the Wang Theater.

The night began with opener Remi Wolf, who commanded the theater stage with her signature funk pop sound and relentlessly powerful vocals. She played hits like the mega-popular “Photo ID,” as well as tracks from her latest album (“Juno”) like “Liquor Store” and “Volkiano.” Though the set was not nearly long enough to capture the many highs of Wolf’s repertoire, it showcased her immense talent and provided a hint of what’s to come with her upcoming tour, which will see her in Boston again on Oct. 9.

Lorde first appeared behind a screen, her silhouette hidden as she sang along to an instrumental rendition of “Leaders of a New Regime,” from “Solar Power.” The theatrical entrance set the tone for the night: Lorde made every song a mini performance, complete with unique set design and staging. In between songs, the stage became cloaked in darkness as she and her band assumed positions for the next one. With each new lighting scheme or change to the set — which was made up of a diagonal staircase and a drum-like cylinder on a rotating floor — it was clear that the goal was beauty. Like the songs in “Solar Power,” Lorde’s show was concerned primarily with taking advantage of and amplifying the power and simplicity in the organic.

Throughout the show, the “Green Light” singer didn’t set aside her older music — despite how much her sound has evolved over the years — but was rather spurred on by it. “I wrote this song when I was 15, which means that some of you have been listening to it for 10 years. But tonight, I want us to dance for our 15-year old selves,” she said before breaking out into an updated mix of “Ribs.” She lent the “Pure Heroine” single a timeless glow as she jumped and danced across the stage. Though the majority of the night’s setlist was made up of songs from “Solar Power” — from the ethereal melancholy of “Fallen Fruit” to the confessional and grooving “Secrets From a Girl (Who’s Seen It All)” — her older work was allowed substantial space in the limelight, much to the benefit of long-term fans. The haunting “Buzzcut Season,” impossibly fun “Supercut,” and intimate stylings of “The Louvre” were all highlights of a night filled to the brim with artistry, and each produced thunderous roars of applause. As such, songs from “Pure Heroine” and “Melodrama” became a catalog revamped. Positioned in contrast to the musings of “Solar Power,” her older cuts took on new life.

“It’s funny doing these shows, it's sort of like having a friend who lives overseas… Everytime you see each other it’s like no time has passed, you know that type of friendship?” Lorde said during a more introspective moment in the show, bookended by “Ribs” and “Solar Power”’s “Big Star.” “I love sitting here with you. I love nothing more in the world than doing this,” she said. And indeed, such a statement rang true. The care she devoted to her audience, asking about new boyfriends and new breakups among other things, washed over her entire performance.

By the time the show ended, Lorde had taken her fans on an expansive tour of her discography. And with every aspect of the show being so carefully executed, from the choreography to the lighting, there was an undeniable artistry inherent to every single movement. “Royals” and “Team” — both hit singles from “Pure Heroine” — served as the show’s encores, reminding Lorde’s audience yet again of the incredible evolution she’s undergone as a singer-songwriter over the years, all the while serving as a testament to her unprecedented beginnings.

Lorde announces new album Solar Power and world tour dates

Get ready to dance like no one's watching.

Lorde is back, and she's ready to rule your playlists.

A little more than a week after dropping her new summer bop, "Solar Power," which was streamed 30 million times in five days, the singer has announced the release date and track list of her upcoming third album, which arrives Aug. 20.

Produced by Jack Antonoff , the LP, also titled Solar Power, boasts 12 new songs inspired by the "natural world," Lorde said in a statement.

In a letter emailed to fans earlier this month, Lorde revealed details about the album and its visuals. "There's someone I want you to meet," she wrote. "Her feet are bare at all times. She's sexy, playful, feral, and free. She's a modern girl in a deadstock bikini, in touch with her past and her future, vibrating at the highest level when summer comes around. Her skin is glowing, her lovers are many. I'm completely obsessed with her, and soon you will be too… It's my divine pleasure to be introducing you, at long last, to my third studio album, SOLAR POWER."

Lorde added that the record is infused with "that infectious, flirtatious summer energy that takes hold of us all" and that it immortalizes "the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I'm outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I've learnt to breathe out, and tune in."

To promote the album, the 24-year-old songwriter recently unveiled a cheeky photo of her leaping over a camera on her website . Her pal Ophelia snapped the shot in New Zealand. She also confirmed that she'd reunited with "Royals" director Joel Kefali for the "Solar Power" video, which features her in a yellow skirt and top, dancing in the sand as she sings an ode to the warmer months. The works form "an entire cinematic universe."

"I made something that encapsulates where I'm from — my family, my girlfriends, my outdoors, my constant ruminations," she said.

Lorde also announced the dates for her 2022 world tour, which kicks off Feb. 26 in New Zealand and lands in North America on April 3 in Nashville. Her final U.S. date will be May 7, 2022, in Santa Barbara.

After releasing her comeback single “Solar Power” earlier this month, Lorde has announced the release date of her third album of the same name, as well as a 2022 world tour. Solar Power will be released on Aug. 20, while her tour — which kicks off in North America on April 3, 2022 — will go on sale to the general public on June 25.

“The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde says of the follow-up to 2017’s Melodrama in a press statement. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

Meanwhile, Solar Power will be released in a disc-less, eco-conscious CD alternative called a “Music Box,” designed to minimize the carbon footprint of the new album. Each Music Box will include additional visual content, handwritten notes, exclusive photos and a download card; the card will let customers access the album, two exclusive bonus tracks and other “special surprises” to be announced later.

“I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde says. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”

Melodrama , which was nominated for album of the year at the 2018 Grammys, has earned 975,000 equivalent album units to date, with 248,000 in pure album sales, according to MRC Data. Like its predecessor, the 12-track Solar Power was produced by Jack Antonoff.

Lorde’s 2022 tour will be promoted by AEG Presents in the United States and Canada, and marks her first North American tour since 2018. Check out the Solar Power track list and Lorde’s newly announced tour dates below:

It's a rudely excellent album, introspective without ever being indulgent, OTT in all the right ways, honest and brave, full of brilliant songs with lyrics to chew over for months.

The pop sensation tours her huge Solar Power album

Lorde Lorde

Why see Lorde?

Solar power tour.

If Lorde felt any pressure following up Melodrama, which received glowing reviews and topped the Billboard charts, she's not letting it show. The New Zealand pop sensation returns this year with her huge follow-up album Solar Power. Unlike her previous albums, fans won't be able to grab this album on CD, instead Lorde is creating an environmentally kind alternative to CD whilst still providing the high-quality wonders we've grown to love.

We've already seen her stun Coachella and deliver great performances on The Tonight Show, we can't wait to see what she has in store for this extensive run of US dates.

Lorde enchants Boston with “Solar Power”

Eleanor Bergstein , Arts Editor | April 17, 2022

25 year old pop star Lorde performed at the Boch Center Wang Theatre in downtown Boston on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13.

CREATIVE COMMONS

25 year old pop star Lorde performed at the Boch Center Wang Theatre in downtown Boston on Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13.

“Boston, Boston, Boston.” It felt like the whole city was listening to Lorde as she rolled our name around her mouth. She strutted fearlessly across the stage, her raspy voice booming out of the microphone.

At Lorde’s April 12 performance on her Solar Power tour, the Boch Center Wang Theatre in downtown Boston was filled with 3,500 screaming fans. For such a well-known singer, that number might seem low. But Lorde, who has struggled with stage fright, prefers a more intimate venue to a massive stadium like TD Garden, where many mainstream artists perform during the Boston leg of their tours. For Lorde’s two-night stay in Boston, she booked the Wang Theatre and easily sold out both nights.

The intimacy of the performance was unique and powerful. At several moments, Lorde spoke vulnerably to the audience like a conversation between friends.

“I know I have a lot of big feelings that I am working through,” she said, inviting the audience to dance it out with her.

The 25 year old artist sang over twenty songs and performed for almost two hours without stopping. About half of the show was songs from her groundbreaking newest album, “Solar Power,” which was released in August 2021. The other half was popular older songs from Lorde’s previous albums.

lorde tour boston

The concert had a great mix of upbeat dancing songs and slower, more melancholy ones. She opened with the calm and short “Leader of a New Regime” off the new album, and then jumped into “Homemade Dynamite,” a fiery and explosive anthem from her 2017 record “Melodrama.” At some moments, Lorde would sit down on the rotating staircase in the middle of the simple set and belt out emotional ballads including “Liability” and “Ribs.” A few minutes later, she would be jumping up and down in the corner of the stage screaming a song like “Green Light” or “The Path.”

The concert was flawless save one microphone malfunction in the second song. I was captivated by Lorde’s every erratic dance move and impressive note. Her raw and vulnerable confidence held everyone’s attention.

At one point, she explained that her frenetic dance moves are her way of expressing the emotions she feels from her songs. If any other person on the planet were up there dancing like she was, I might’ve questioned it. But with Lorde, I found it impossible to doubt any of her decisions. Instead, I was mesmerized by these idiosyncratic movements, whether she was marching around the stage or waving her arms wildly.

One of the many highlights was when Lorde spontaneously decided to perform “Big Star.” She explained that she loves Boston and felt like it’s a good place to try a new way of performing one of her songs.

In “Stoned at the Nail Salon,” one of the most popular and moving songs on “Solar Power,” Lorde sings that “all the music you loved at sixteen you’ll grow out of.” But, after this concert, I don’t think I’ll ever grow out of my obsession with Lorde.

2024 Tour Championship TV schedule, channel, where to watch FedEx Cup Playoffs coverage, live stream

The final event of the 2024 pga tour season takes place this week at a newly restored east lake golf club.

GOLF: AUG 23 PGA - TOUR Championship

For the third straight season, Scottie Scheffler entered the Tour Championship with an inside track to win the FedEx Cup crown. For the first time, he pushed his lead ahead substantially after 18 holes. Scheffler shot the best round of the day to open play at East Lake Golf Club to open a seven-shot lead over Collin Morikawa and Xander Schauffele.

With a newly restored East Lake Golf Club and a hungry chasing pack nipping at his heels, the season-long race will not be handed to Scheffler. Schauffele entered the Tour Championship as his nearest pursuer with a wealth of experience around this golf course. Whether that translates onto the newest version of East Lake remains to be seen over the next 54 holes, but the two-time major champion is sure to factor in some shape or form.

St. Jude Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama and BMW Championship winner Keegan Bradley rounded out those closest to Scheffler as the tournament began, while Ludvig Åberg started his effort seeking to capture the FedEx Cup in his maiden trip to East Lake. Heavy hitters such as Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark started the tournament on the outskirts of contention.

Meanwhile, former FedEx Cup champions Viktor Hovland, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas and Billy Horschel have ground to make up if they are to add a second cup to their mantles. Veterans such as Adam Scott, Tommy Fleetwood and Tony Finau still have life but will require massive efforts to track down the world No. 1. Lorde, born Ella Marija Lani Yellic O’Connor on 7 November 1996, is an electro-pop singer and songwriter from Devonport, New Zealand.

Lorde signed to Universal Music Group in her early teens and was soon paired with producer and songwriter Joel Little (who has won Grammy Awards for songwriting and was the lead singer for New Zealand pop punk band, Goodnight Nurse). Little co-wrote and produced most of Lorde’s works, her first being “The Love Club EP” in March 2013. The EP reached the number two positions in national record charts in New Zealand and Australia.

A few months later Lorde released her debut single titled “Royals” and it was an instant, international hit. It even reached the top spot on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, making Lorde the youngest solo artist to have a number one US hit single (the last artist to hold to title was Tiffany and her single “I Think We’re Alone Now” in 1987). “Royals” first gained so much recognition on YouTube for its video, directed by Joel Kefali, which received over 750,000 views.

“Pure Heroine,” Lorde’s debut “indietronica” album, was released later in 2013 and predictably achieved immediate chart success in her home country and Australia. The dream-pop album also reached number three on the US Billboard 200. Other than “Royals,” singles from the album include “Team,” “Glory and Gore” and “Tennis Court.”

Lorde has also collaborated with UK house and pop duo, Disclosure, who released a remix of “Royals” (combined with Aluna George’s “White Noise”). She has also become revered as one of the most influential teenagers in popular culture, famously speaking out about feminism being “completely natural” and condemning the media for photo shopping photographs of her; even tweeting an original image of herself next to the photo shopped one, stating “two photos from today, one edited so my skin is perfect and one real. remember flaws are ok :-)”

The Melodrama World Tour Brisbane

Lorde of the Riverstage

The best time to see an artist perform is when they have less than three albums, you are pretty much guaranteed to get an awesome set without filler and no exclusions. In this respect Lorde did not disappoint and along with Porter Robinson (also at the Riverstage in February) was one of the best gigs of the year.

Melodrama is an interesting album, despite receiving critical acclaim, I often glean that some yearned for a repeat of Pure Heroine. At 40 minutes the album at face value do not appear substantial, but those will be some of the best minutes of the year, emotionally charged, unique, at times energetic and more diverse than her first offering.

Lorde opened with Homemade Dynamite, a great way to start. Magnets was a special treat, I didn’t expect that the Disclosure track would make it into the set despite it’s strong showing in the 2015 Triple J Hottest 100. Lorde weaved here own personal narrative through the set, recalling the stories behind tracks Tennis Court (a personal favourite), A World Alone and the Louvre.

Lorde covered Springsteen’s I’m on Fire with guitarist Ray Suen, and worked in 400 Lux, a seminal moment which slowed the tempo at the midpoint of the set. Paying homage to Brisbane band Powderfinger, “I was raised on Powderfinger. That was my shit,” she said before blending an intro from My Happiness into Liability.

Pure Heroine tracks Royals and Team were well received, and built the intensity to the final song Green Light, cue the confetti storm. Lorde returned to play Loveless as the encore.

On the down side, there were no tracks from Hunger Games, Meltdown or Yellow Flicker Beat could have been worked well with the set. Writer in the Dark was a curious omission.

All in all, one of the best shows of the year, on a beautiful night, and well supported by George Maple, who will be playing in Brisbane this coming February.

Lorde is revolutionary for her age. Her first album to go big is one of the few that I can listen to all the way through and love every song that plays. "Pure Heroin" is exactly right, it's so addictive. Lorde is only 17 but speaks to issues and a lifestyle that is so much more than the other teenagers making music right now. There's real depth to it, unlike Kesha or Miley Cyrus - and her voice is amazing! I saw her live in Austin earlier this year, and it was incredible - her stage presence is so delightful and you can tell she is loving every minute of her success right now. She played all the songs on her album and talked a bit about them - but not so much that you just wanted her to get on with the show. Her music is so simple but her voice is so strong and powerful that it doesn't need any fluff in it. I love how she embraces her flaws and encourages us all to do so as well. You'll find her commenting on photoshopped pictures of herself ousting the editing that was done. She also tries to be conscious of the audience she is playing to - she knows that young people, girls especially, are listening to her music and she wants to portray the message of strength and independence; this is a welcome message from the boy dependent, superficial, materialistic songs that are being made by most pop music artists. She really stands out. Doesn't try to be sexy or show the world that she's growing up, it's much more grounded than that. If you haven't listened yet, I highly recommend it. I know I'll be waiting for her next album.

Omg. Where do I start? Amazinggggg.

The show all started when Tove Styrke got on stage. She was alright. I did like her cover of liability.

Next was Run The Jewels. And they focused on 3 things, People yelling “R T J!”, middle fingers, and flashing lights that could give you a seizure. I couldn’t even understand what they were saying. They had talent though.

Then, the queen came on. She started with Sober, like blue lights. Next was Homeade Dynamite and Tennis court. Amazing. Then colorful stage for magnets. Then Buzzcut Season and 400 lux, then came a new version of ribs. Then the louvre, hard feelings, and yellow flicker beat. Then she sat down, gave a 7 minute speech, and sang both writer in the dark and liabillity. Both really beautiful. Then she got up and sang Sober ll, and Supercut. Then, came the hits. ROYALSSSS. She invited us to sing and we all lost our voices. Then came Perfect Places. With a child choir which was cute. Then the last song was green light, she sang it and before the confetti, she told us to jump, and “fucking lose it”. Then there was A LOT (almost too much) CONFETTIII!!!! Then she went off. Then came back on for the encore, It had Loveless, then a non released catchy song called “Precious Metals”, then her last song (for real) was Team. She went down to General Admission at the end. And gave everyone high fives. IT WAS AMAZING. Definitely go see her if she’s coming near you.

Oh Lorde she is not one to disappoint! Singing all the favourites from her most recent album 'Pure Heroine' and more of her latest songs I hadn't even discovered before. While performing at Festival Hall, in Melbourne I didn’t think the venue put Lorde’s talent to justice but maybe it was just the seating. I feel like Lorde deserved a much larger ‘stadium-like’ venue to allow as many people as possible to witness one of the most prominent artists in the "post-millennial" era. Only a 17 year old from New Zealand, I don’t think you can get anymore unique than that! I was worried it was going to be one of those ‘one set stage’ performances but Lorde managed to have a costume change in the middle of her hit song “Team”! Along with varying Special effects including lights, cameras and a lot of action in the background while she was singing. There was a revolving chandelier, many different coloured lights, and a screen to allow those not in the mosh pit to see her face up close, adding to the atmosphere. Her accompanying act was way better than I expected, SAFIA has now got a new number one fan. The concert overall was very memorable leaving me wanting to relive all the songs performed on the night from both acts. Can’t wait for another concert from the one and only, Lorde!

EPIC. Fireworks, smoke, flashing lights ... costume changes, short videos, chat sessions ... this was one of the best concerts I’ve been to ! Somehow it didn’t feel super super extravagant and large scale though, which I loved because it made the whole experience so much more intimate. We arrived at around 6, and because that was when the gates opened we expected people to have been already lining up for ages and we thought we would get a terrible place in the mosh pit but we were actually still so close to the front! I loved how Lorde chatted to us like friends and really interacted with the audience. She comes across as such a wonderful, kind and genuine young woman, and it was so gorgeous to watch her sing and dance her beautiful heart out. She played a lot of her old music from Pure Heroine as well which was awesome - including Royals, Team, Tennis Court, Buzzcut Season and Ribs. She also played Magnets (by Disclosure) and a beautiful rendition of I’m on Fire (Bruce Springsteen) in combination with 400 Lux. That was possibly my favorite performance of the night. Green Light was the finale and was absolutely awesome of course. I would highly recommend you see Lorde live for an amazing once in a lifetime experience!!

Oh my Lorde! I highly recommend all lovers of music to attend at least one Lorde concert - it was the best concert I've been to yet! Couldn't fault it; her tone was perfect, her dancing crazy and awesome, her humbleness astounded me especially how she informed the audience of meaning of her songs. The atompshere was buzzing! She captured her audience, with her use of the whole stage and just having a good time! The lights were great and added a good vibe to her performance. I thought it was lovely how she apologised for rescheduling her show "I'm so sorry for having to reschedule I became gravely ill in Las Vegas - mum told me I had to reschedule. I told her 'I'm going to Australia if I have to go on my own'. I also thought if I'm this sick I can't give you guys a proper performance- I wouldn't be able to dance around and get into it like I'm doing tonight!" I honestly cannot stress enough how great this show was - any age can go, sing their heart out and dance till their feet fall off. This young kiwi girl definetly has a "speeshil" (how she pronounces the word special) nack for performing and entertaining - knowing what the audience wants to see! If I was to rate it, honestly 10/10- had the best night ever!

At the center of the stage there’s a staircase on the top of a round structure. The whole thing is placed on a round platform.

During the first song, Leader of a New Regime, Lorde plays from behind a screen.

The support singers look like akward nerds dressed like The Beatles in the 60s. Their dresses are the color of the sun. Lorde's look is curated by Karla Welch.

She is really good at switching between her newer songs, with acoustic guitars, and the older ones with electronic bases.

In Buzzcut Season the support singers do a good job providing support voices. Their performance is quite staged, with them turning towards the audience only when they are singing.

It’s in this song that I realized how powerful the voice ensemble is.

Lorde’s songs, like Lana Del Rey’s, seem to describe a lazy life spent on the side of pools, just enjoying oneself.

During the songs she takes time to interact with the crowd, she reflects on what happened in Oslo last week, and she tells about her memories of visiting the city. She also shares how she got rid of stage fright.

A camera films her so that it is possible for everyone in the audience to see her expressions.

A great experience overall.

What can I not say about this queen bee? She's barely 18 years old (birthday in November) and it's exhilarating to watch her evolve. Today's pop music needs a facelift and a lot of us are counting on Lorde. She is currently touring smaller theater venues to get her feet wet. Sure, she could have accepted the offer to tour with Katy Perry and jumped right into the stadium crowd. But this is Lorde, and she already knows that she will be bigger, and she will do it her own way. For those of you who got to see her in theses smaller venues, consider yourself lucky because she will get bigger and bigger and pretty soon it will get harder to get that intimate experience. I'm one of those lucky ones and what I saw was just mind blowing. To me, she almost has that spellbinding Stevie Nicks presence. Her outfit was a simple two piece (with costume changes into different colors) yet she was more seductive than artists who show more skin.

Right now, her live performance is a bit unpolished, but what I saw was a taste of possible perfection to come. Give her two more years to work out the kinks and she will surely bring magic to stadiums across the world!

Shoutout to Lorde for being the most wonderful human being on the planet.. Only seventeen and across the world from her home of New Zeland touring?? Fricken amazing.

So I love Lorde and she made the wait to see her live sooo worth it! She played most of my favorite songs from her album Pure Heroine. The concert was crazy and up beat. Not to mention the awesome lights, fog bubbles, and confetti (WITH HER FACE ON IT) that covered the crowd!!! The venue I was at had GA so everyone was all squished together in an amazing pit of Lorde love and sweat, dancing and having the time of their lives. Definitely my favorite concert I've ever been to and I can not wait until she is back in the area so I can see her again!!! Some fun facts: All of her props that she uses on stage are from her home town in NZ The bass is sooo crazy, be ready! She spent a good six minutes just talking about her life and creating her album (Not gonna lie I was tearin up a little) It was actually the best night of my life

Lorde's first of two shows in Berkely 10/2/14 was nothing short of amazing. She sounds just like she does on her record with her powerful vocals. The atmosphere was incredible with her energetic dancing around stage, her multiple costume changes, visually beautiful setup and all around great music quality. She played her entire album along with 2 EP tracks (bravado and biting down), 2 covers (Kanye west and Bon iver), her single song No Better, and what made the night really special was premiering her single she dropped 2 days before Yellow Flicker Beat for the first time live. She reflected on the times she's been in the bay area before and made us all feel special and loved, everything about the show was great I couldn't have asked for a better show, and afterwords she met the fans, myself included making it one of the best concerts I've ever been to. She is incredibly sweet, kind, and talented. I would always recommend for others to see her live show, it'll make them say Praise the Lorde!

Boston Conservatory at Berklee Announces Center Stage Performances for 2024–2025 Season

The eight performances will showcase the best of the Conservatory’s dance, music, and theater programs.

Collage of four images: one from a rock concert, one of music notes on a black board, one of a dancer in black and white, and one of a building.

Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s curated performance collection Center Stage returns with a 2024–2025 season featuring innovative new works and dynamic stagings of beloved favorites in dance, music, and theater. Audiences will be treated to a remarkable range of student performances, from the 21st-century electropop opera  Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812  to Mozart’s classic  Cosí fan tutte , and from to AI interpretations of Bach to cutting-edge dance works. This year’s lineup also includes a special orchestra concert at Symphony Hall, a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s masterwork Jesus Christ Superstar , and creations by notable guest artists and performers.

The fall series opens on Thursday, September 26 with  Jesus Christ Superstar , the beloved first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage. The performance will run through Sunday, September 29 at Boston Conservatory Theater. A timeless work that has wowed audiences around the world for more than 50 years, the rock opera is set against the backdrop of a universally known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Boston Conservatory’s production of  Jesus Christ Superstar will be directed by Dawn Simmons with music direction by Associate Professor  David Coleman .

On Saturday, September 28, Professor  Lynn Chang will present  Hemenway Strings: Music of the Past, Present, and Future at Seully Hall, located at 8 Fenway in Boston. This free performance will feature works composed and inspired by Bach, as well as a special AI-composed piece based on Bach’s BWV 668,  Vor deinen Thron tret' ich hiermit . In addition, Hemenway Strings will perform works by Jean Sibelius, Felix Mendelssohn, Samuel Coleridge Taylor, and Sofia Gubaidulina.

Boston Conservatory will present its annual fall dance concert,  From the Ground Up , from October 24 through 27 at Boston Conservatory Theater. This year’s performance will feature senior, junior, and sophomore contemporary dance students performing a vibrant lineup of stylistically diverse world premieres choreographed by renowned guest artists Hope Boykin, Christina Chan, Norbert De La Cruz III, and Andrew Skeels, and by Boston Conservatory faculty choreographers Junichi Fukuda and Daniel Pelzig, with Dean of Dance  Tommy Neblett as artistic director.

On Sunday, October 27, Boston Conservatory Orchestra will present a special concert at Boston’s historic Symphony Hall. Under the baton of Professor  Bruce Hangen ,  Boston Conservatory Orchestra: Telling the Story will showcase a program featuring Rimsky-Korsakov’s  Scheherazade , the storytelling sultana who saves her own life by recounting a thousand and one tales; the orchestral suite from Richard Strauss’s comic opera Der Rosenkavalier (Cavalier of the Rose), which begins its action-packed story with a ceremonial silver rose; and Quinn Mason’s fun and festive “Toast of Town” Overture.

Center Stage continues this spring with the  Commercial Dance B.F.A. Concert on Thursday, January 30 and Friday, January 31 at the Berklee Performance Center. This special performance celebrates seniors of Boston Conservatory’s inaugural commercial dance class, who are graduating in spring 2025. Students will perform an array of incredible new works by leading choreographers.

In April, students will perform the acclaimed electropop opera  Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812   at an off-campus venue (location and dates to be announced shortly). Composer Dave Malloy’s story is based on Leo Tolstoy’s  War and Peace , and begins when Natasha Rostova arrives in Moscow to await the return of her fiancé from the front lines. When she falls under the spell of the roguish Anatole, it is up to Pierre (a family friend in the middle of an existential crisis) to pick up the pieces of her shattered reputation. The hit musical expands the possibilities for the genre with its daring score and bold storytelling; and during its Tony-nominated run on Broadway, Boston Conservatory alum Shoba Narayan (B.F.A. '12, musical theater) made her Broadway debut, becoming the first South Asian female in a principal role in more than a decade.

From April 10 through 13, students will perform Mozart’s beloved opera  Così fan tutte at Boston Conservatory Theater. This comic romp centers on a bet about fidelity that is made among the male characters, propelling the events into a sometimes riotous, sometimes moving escapade.  Così fan tutte is an intense character study of its six players, and Boston Conservatory’s production ends with a feminist twist.

The spring Center Stage season will close with Boston Conservatory’s annual  Spring Dance Concert: Limitless . The lineup features the captivating works  Dvořák Serenade by Lar Lubovitch '24H and  SAMA  by Andrea Miller, alongside exciting new pieces by Ken Ossola and Aszure Barton, who is in residence this spring as part of her four-year partnership with Boston Conservatory. Performances will take place April 24 through 27 at Boston Conservatory Theater.

Center Stage is a perfect way for audiences to sample a curated selection of Boston Conservatory’s finest performances. In addition to Center Stage, Boston Conservatory offers arts lovers hundreds of free and low-cost events across dance, music, and theater, including musicals, operas, choral concerts, dance shows, ensembles, faculty recitals, student recitals, and several special series. The 2024–2025 Opera Innovators Series —in partnership with Boston Lyric Opera—will engage opera greats Lawrence Brownlee, Morris Robinson, Wendy Bryn Harmer, Anthony Roth Costanzo, and Jamie Barton. Artistry in Action will present Piano Master Series guests Olga Kern, Yukine Kuroki, Corey Hamm, and Soyeon Kate Lee, and String Master Series guests Melissa White (violin), Christopher Costanza (cello), Michael Casimir (viola), and Scott Kluksdahl (cello), as well as Chamber Series concerts featuring Boston Conservatory faculty artists.

Boston Common safety concerns prompting tour company to rethink route: ‘A tragedy’

F or the past decade, Boston History Company has led tours on the Freedom Trail, with groups starting at the Boston Common before making their way through some of the city’s most iconic streets.

The route could change sooner than later as the company is grappling with safety concerns as open drug usage and violence are expanding on the Common more than ever, said Daniel Berger-Jones, the company’s CEO and president.

In a phone interview on Saturday, Berger-Jones told the Herald that while none of his 24 tour guides have left, he’s considering starting his tours somewhere else, maybe from the North End working backward, potentially ending before the Common.

“That feels like a tragedy,” Berger-Jones said. “Boston Common should be the center of Boston, it is the center of Boston. In the center of a large metropolitan city, I think there’s going to be sort of a large contingent that makes us feel like outsiders.”

Earlier on Saturday, as the sun shone over the Common and met with a gentle breeze, activity burst across America’s oldest public park. People from and outside of Boston suntanned on the grass, families with children swam at the Frog Pond, and guides led large groups on tours.

Despite the mostly calm, peaceful scene, cigarette butts, and other trash littered the grounds. Some people were seen exhibiting signs of drug usage – one slumped over while standing and another passed out with one shoe on and the other off in the middle of a field and no one else around.

Recent violence in Downtown Crossing and at the Common prompted City Councilor Ed Flynn to call for a pause on public events in the area last week, a request that some people see as a step too far and one Mayor Michelle Wu says she’s not taking seriously.

Jamaica Plain resident Rob Crean has given tours for 15 years, and while he said he’s seen “some pretty crazy stuff” over time, most of the activity playing out now is “more minor like people yelling at you.”

“There are a lot more people struggling out here, they are having a hard time,” Crean told the Herald while he waited to give a tour Saturday afternoon. “You kind of just try as much as you can insulate your group from it.”

Crean added that he doesn’t believe canceling events is the “answer.”

“It’s just the way it is,” he said. “Unless you want to fund mental health facilities, we’re going to have to deal with this stuff.”

Flynn made his pitch publicly on social media Wednesday, hours after a man barely survived a stabbing that morning in Downtown Crossing — a popular shopping area that Boston Police statistics show is the second-most dangerous district in the city.

“Residents, workers and tourists continue to tell me that they no longer feel safe in Downtown Crossing and Boston Common,” Flynn posted. “With several permitted events already scheduled in Boston Common, I’m recommending these events not take place.”

Downtown Crossing’s 140 violent crimes a year are second only to Roxbury, which has a 5-year average of 205 such incidents, according to the latest data from the Boston Regional Intelligence Center.

There has been one reported homicide in the neighborhood this year, two less than last year and one less than the average. There have been 12 domestic aggravated assaults, five less than in 2023, and 149 non-domestic assaults, larger than the 140 on average and the 127 seen last year.

In response to Flynn’s plea, Councilor At-Large Henry Santana posted on X that he believes the police stats paint Downtown as a safe neighborhood though it is “experiencing public safety concerns that are more pronounced than we’ve seen in recent years.”

Santana calls for the city to find “balanced and comprehensive solutions that address the root causes” of the challenges.

“I believe public events on Boston Common and in Downtown Crossing are part of the solution, not the problem,” he said. “These events bring positive energy and much-needed activity to Downtown and our city, supporting local businesses and bolstering our tourism industry.”

Also within the last week, a Boston Municipal Court judge ordered a 25-year-old man locked up for sending a Transit Police officer to the hospital with a “serious bite wound” and attacking another after he woke up on the floor of a Red Line train at Park Street, Universal Hub reported .

In late spring , a shooting broke out at the Park Street T stop on the Common, with the gunshot victim found seriously injured near the Brewer Fountain – a spot heavily visited by tourists. That came days before a group of people reportedly trying to intervene in a road rage incident were stabbed and beaten on the Common.

Boston History Company met near the Visitors Information Center before shifting to behind the Shaw Memorial, near the corner of Beacon and Park Streets and the State House.

Safety concerns historically felt outside Park Street station have spilled over throughout the 50-acre park, Berger-Jones said. Last week, a female guide told him the Common is the “worst than she’s ever seen it” after she kicked a cup full of used needles while talking with tourists.

“The crowd of tourists had to step carefully over those,” Berger-Jones said. “It just feels like a bad impression of Boston, and it makes me sad because we have the oldest public park in the United States of America.”

“I’m not sure who to call to enforce anything,” he added. “If you call the parks services, there’s not a ton that they can do. If you call the police, they are already a little overtaxed.”

Flynn has also said he wants to see a heavier police presence on the Common and ensure that when a permit is issued for a public event, there is a security plan in place with enough officers to “ensure the safety of all people” in the area.

Michael Nichols, president of the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, which coordinates happenings at Downtown Crossing, told the Herald he has no plans to cancel any events.

While Nichols said he agrees with the councilor that more police resources would be helpful in the area and that there is a problem worth addressing, he wasn’t convinced that the downtown has become more unsafe in recent years.

Thousands took in the sounds and sights of the 14th-annual African Festival on Saturday, listening to music from a stage and treating themselves to food vendors, arts and crafts, clothes, and dancing.

City resident Jealaike Shadari, a community organizer behind the festival, said she feels safe at the Common and the weekend festival being allowed to take place is “saying something.”

“If the city of Boston wants to shut it down,” she said, “I guess that’s into their own hands and we have to respect their wishes, but where we are right now we are so comfortable with it and we are doing great.”

Berger-Jones said the number of tours his company has given this year has dropped about 10% from last year, meaning less revenue, making it hard to sustain business.

“The idea of being in a city and being in the midst of this sort of crush of people, and some of the less pleasant things that happen in human society are on full display,” he said. “A lot of people seem to be traveling away from that entirely this year.”
