Celine Dion Announces Surprise Plan to Return to Stage
By Eve Batey
Via Instagram, singer Celine Dion is speaking openly about her journey as someone with the rare neurological condition stiff person syndrome (SPS), an incurable disorder which causes uncontrollable muscle spasms and pain. The 55-year-old Canadian queen of power ballads also said she’s hopeful she can find a way to perform for audiences again, following an onstage appearance last month.
The last few years have been private ones for the “My Heart Will Go On” singer, who announced in late 2022 that she’d been diagnosed with SPS after “dealing with problems with my health for a long time.” The condition had been “causing difficulties when I walk” and was “not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” the singer said, a challenge that forced her to cancel performances she had planned in 2023.
Since then, she’s been spotted only briefly—at an NHL game last November , and in a surprise role as a presenter at the Grammys last month. The latter appearance was especially unanticipated by fans, as just a few months before , Dion’s sister, Claudette Dion , said “She doesn’t have control over her muscles.”
Celine Dion, Taylor Swift and Dion’s son, Rene-Charles Angelil at the Grammy Awards on February 04, 2024 in Los Angeles, California.
“It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage,” Claudette said in December 2023. “In what capacity? I don’t know.”
Dion seemed in good spirits at the Grammys in February, when she was greeted with a standing ovation. “When I say that I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart,” Dion said, before awarding Taylor Swift with the trophy for Album of the Year.
In an Instagram post published late Friday night, Dion noted, “Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day,” held annually on March 15.
“As many of you know, in the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS),” the singer wrote in the caption to a photo of her with her children with her late husband, René Angélil. In the image, she stands in front of a backdrop emblazoned with the logo for go-kart company K1 , while sons René-Charles Angélil and twins Nelson and Eddy Angélil appear to hold trophies from an unspecified event.
“Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life,” Dion wrote. “But I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible.”
Celine Dion and twin sons Eddy (L) and Nelson celebrated the boys’ upcoming fifth birthday at Disneyland in 2016.
“I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you,” Dion wrote in conclusion. “I want to send my encouragement and support to all those around the world that have been affected by SPS. I want you to know you can do it! We can do it!”
Those eager for more from Dion won’t have to wait until she resumes her tour, it appears. I Am: Celine Dion , a documentary billed as depicting Dion’s “never-before-seen private life” as she “navigates her journey toward living an open and authentic life amidst illness,” is expected to land on Prime Video at some point in coming months .
Included in the film, which was directed by award-winning documentarian Irene Taylor , is reportedly a year’s worth of footage that includes a visit by Dion to her “couture touring wardrobe and personal effects” as well as scenes of the singer in the recording studio.

Celine Dion Cancels the Remainder of Her World Tour
The pop star, who announced in December that she was suffering from a rare neurological condition, said she was “working really hard to build back my strength.”
By Maya Salam
The powerhouse pop superstar Celine Dion announced Friday morning on social media that she was canceling the remainder of her Courage World Tour through April 2024 in order to focus on her recovery from a rare autoimmune and neurological disease.
Dion, 55, first shared publicly that she was grappling with the medical condition — called stiff person syndrome , which causes progressive stiffness and severe muscle spasms — in an emotional Instagram video that she posted in December 2022 , as she canceled or postponed a number of tour dates.
“I am so sorry to disappoint all of you once again,” Dion said in the statement on Friday. “I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100 percent. It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back onstage again. I want you all to know, I’m not giving up … And I can’t wait to see you again!”
The remaining 2023 tour dates had been scheduled to run from Aug. 26 in Amsterdam through Oct. 4 in Helsinki, Finland; then from March 6, 2024, in Prague through April 22, 2024, in London. Tickets purchased for the canceled dates can be refunded via the original point of sale, according to the statement.
Before the pandemic paused Dion’s tour in March 2020, she had completed the first 52 dates of the tour, in North America. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I am used to,” she said in the video posted last year.
Dion can be seen in her first feature movie role, alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan, in the romantic comedy-drama “Love Again,” which was released this month.
After the announcement of her illness last year, Dion, known for her renditions of ballads like “Because You Loved Me” and “My Heart Will Go On,” was met with a remarkable outpouring from fans , particularly in Quebec, the French-speaking Canadian province where Dion was born.

Céline Dion
Céline Dion is a Grammy Award-winning, French-Canadian singer who gained international recognition after winning the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest. Her debut English-language album, Unison, was released in 1990, followed by the even more successful Céline Dion in 1992 and The Colour of My Love in 1993. Dion scored back-to-back No. 1 albums with 1996's Falling into You and 1997's Let's Talk About Love, which featured the Oscar-winning Titanic theme "My Heart Will Go On." Following the release of 1998's These Are Special Times, she retreated from the spotlight to spend time with her family, returning in 2002 with A New Day Has Come, her third No. 1 album. Dion's first Las Vegas residency show, A New Day, ran from 2003 to 2007. She kicked off her second and current residency, Céline, in 2011. More recently, Dion has been on tour and just released additional dates for the Courage World Tour. In addition, Dion has recently released a new EP that includes the songs “Imperfections,” “Lying Down” and “Courage.”

Flashback: Jimmy Page and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Take on ‘Godzilla’
By Andy Greene
Andy Greene
Godzilla: King of the Monsters arrives in theaters this weekend. It’s a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla where the enormous beast wreaked havoc in San Francisco and battled Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe. Despite receiving somewhat mixed reviews, the film grossed over $500 million and guaranteed a sequel. This new movie sees Godzilla battle his old foe Mothra and meet up with Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga and Kyle Chandler.
One thing it won’t have is even a passing reference to Roland Emmerich’s 1998 Godzilla . That movie was the first time that Hollywood tried to take the Japanese classic and turn it into an American blockbuster. The hype for the movie was endless and included a Taco Bell tie-in, action figures, wall-to-wall commercials and a soundtrack featuring Rage Against the Machine, Ben Folds Five, Green Day, the Wallflowers covering David Bowie’s “Heroes” and, most memorably, Sean “Diddy Combs’ song “Come With Me.” This was near the pinnacle of Diddy’s commercial career and he recruited Jimmy Page to replay his parts from Led Zeppelin ’s 1975 classic “Kashmir.”
The song hit just as Page was re-teaming with Robert Plant for Walking Into Clarksdale , their first studio album together since Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980. Unsurprisingly, “Come With Me” got significantly more attention than any of the songs on Walking Into Clarksdale , even if some of it was from Zeppelin fans that found the whole thing sacrilegious and more than a little ridiculous. After all, Jimmy Page had finally coaxed Robert Plant back into the studio after nearly two decades and he felt this was the time for Puffy’s take on “Kashmir?”
What’s easy to forget that many big movies from that era were paired with high-profile songs that often became enormous hits. Think of Titanic and Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On,” Armageddon and Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and Men in Black and Will Smith’s “Men in Black.” The songs promoted the movies just as the movies promoted the songs. They all went into heavy rotation on MTV, basically providing free commercials for the films. Everyone made a fortune.
But none of those other songs featured Diddy rapping over a Led Zeppelin song. And with all due respect to Page and Combs, it wasn’t aged very well. Check out the video right here and judge for yourself.
There’s nothing like “Come With Me” on the Godzilla: King of the Monsters soundtrack, but next year Godzilla vs. Kong is coming out. Maybe Jimmy Page and Puff Daddy are locked away in the studio as we speak redoing “Black Dog” or “Achilles Last Stand” for it, but let’s hope not.

Celine Dion is revealing the thought process behind one of her most recent outfits.
The singer, 56, who announced she had been diagnosed with stiff person syndrome in 2022, recently posed for the cover of Vogue France , modeling a variety of high-fashion outfits for the glamorous photo shoot.
In addition to opening up about her health in accompanying interview, Dion also reflected on some of her past ensembles for Vogue’s Life in Looks video series .
The clip concluded with her speaking about her surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammys, where she wore a sleek, brown Valentino Haute Couture coat over a pink gown straight from the runway and a silver statement necklace.
“It was very nerve wracking and at the same time, a big honor,” she said of the experience, which had her walking out on stage to present Taylor Swift with the album of the year award.
While Dion noted that the night “took a lot out” of her, her outfit did manage to make things a bit easier.
“I was like, ‘I can walk on stage with a coat?’” she recalled in the clip. “’Oh yeah, you can do whatever you want in fashion. Just have a good time. Wear that coat. Own that coat. Go for it.’”
“And it made me feel better for a moment,” she continued. “To hold onto this coat, to hide myself a little bit from all these little things.”
It seems Celine is working on her physical health; Not only did she have an impromptu performance backstage at the musical awards show, but also, last month the “My Heart Will Go On” singer was even spotted attending a Boston Bruins ice hockey game , where, at one point, she stood up and played air guitar.
In the Vogue video, Dion did what she does best and broke out into one of her songs, “Imperfections,” which perfectly summarized the moment.
“I got my own imperfections,” she sang. “I got my own. I got my own. Hold on.”
It seems Dion is still her same, quirky self.
