About Bursa: History of Bursa and Bursa Information

Bursa has the title of Green (Yeşil Bursa) thanks to the 15th-century green colored tiles of the Ottoman architecture and being surrounded by nature. Two of the most interesting buildings in Bursa are Yeşil Mosque and Yeşil Tomb which means Green Mosque and Green Tomb. Green Mosque was built during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Mehmet I who was the sun of Yıldırım Beyazit. The Green Mosque is called Green owing to the beautiful green colored tiles inside of it which date back to the 15th century. Evliya Çelebi who was an Ottoman traveler and a travel writer called them "emeralds sparkling in the sunlight". Green Tomb which is on the other side if the street is the tomb of Sultan Mehmet I who died in 1421. An impressive example of the early Ottoman architecture with its decoration inside and outside. Nearby there are the tombs of family members of Mehmet I; his sons Mahmut and Mustafa, his son Yusuf Çelebi and his daughters.

In ancient times, Bursa was the capital of the Bithynia region in Anatolian history. The city was named after its founder Prusias I (228-185BC). The fourth king of Bithynia. Later it becomes Bursa as it has been pronounced similarly. In 74 BC, Bithynia came under direct Roman rule. Before that, it was ruled by Nicomedes IV Philopator. He had the help of Romans to obtain his power to restore his kingdom. Since Nicomedes had no legitimate male heir, he willed his realm to Rome. In 1075 Selçuk Turks captured the city, it was retaken by the Christian forces in 1097 during the First Crusade. Again the Selçuks then Byzantines again, which kept going changing hands in the 12th and 13th centuries. In 1326 it was captured by the Ottoman Sultan Orhan Gazi who made it the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The first 6 Ottoman Sultans were buried in Bursa.

Bursa was an important center on the trade route. Therefore Bursa is the center of the silk industry which dates back to the Byzantine periods.

Uludağ which means Great Mount is approximately 2554 meters high, 36 km away from the city center by a road. The cable car is the best way to take you up to the Uludağ on the slopes you can enjoy the ride. Uludağ National Park is a paradise for nature-lovers which has 11400 hectares of area. All surrounded by the trees such as Chestnut, olive, oak, plane trees, elm, pine trees, aspen, and juniper. It is renowned for winter sports thanks to its available climate conditions. Hotel rooms are in great demand during the winter. Trekking for summer is also nice in Uludağ.

The famous Ulu Cami which means Great Mosque was built by the Ottoman Sultan Yıldırım Beyazit. The mosque has a şadırvan with a pool inside of it. The ablution fountain is the interesting şadırvan inside which makes it unique among the other Ottoman mosques. The domes are in four groups of five. Nearby the Ulu Camii lies the Ottoman bazaar. The Koza Han which means silk hanwas built in 1451. Up there, there is a citadel restored by the Byzantines and Ottomans. Inside there are the tombs of Osman Gazi and Orhan Gazi. Osman Gazi who was the founder of the Ottomans was buried here in 1326. Nearby you can see Old Turkish houses. Tophane has a beautiful view of the city now. There are so many other Ottoman buildings like the Muradiye Complex built during the reign of Murat II in the 15th century. The mosque is decorated with geometrical and floral patterned tiles. Orhan Gazi Mosque, Emir Sultan Mosque, Yıldırım Beyazit complex, Archaeological Museum of Bursa, Mosque of Sultan Murat I, Museum of Turkish Art are among the historical attractions of Bursa.

Bursa is surrounded by its lovely, historical, and natural beauty districts. İnegöl is 38km from Bursa which is famous for its meatballs, its fruit, and vegetables. İnegöl Köfte (meatballs) are made from lamb and served with raw onion rings. Good quality traditional-style furniture is produced in factories on the outskirts of the town. They have been exported to the Middle East as well. Bursa is famous for spas in the vicinity such as Oylat which is the less-known one and probably the most beautiful one which is 20km from İnegöl. Gemlik is on the gulf in the Marmara Sea. Being famous for its olive trees, you can taste these delicious olives in the breakfast all over Turkey.

İznik which is along the side of İznik Lake. İznik is famous for its Hagia Sophia which is the most important Byzantine building in İznik. The Seventh Ecumenical Council was held in 787 in this Hagia Sophia of Nicaea which was the ancient name of İznik. Uluabat Lake is 30km to Bursa. This shallow lake has the village Gölyazı nearby. Some fishermen live in the area and some architectural fragments of the ancient city Apollonia can be seen in the ruins nearby. Karacabey is famous for its excellent vegetables which is a farmers' district.

If you visit Bursa, you should taste the İskender Kebab (Kebap in Turkish) which is identified with Alexander the Great, that comes legendary, though.

Istanbul Bursa Day Tour begins during the morning from the city centre of Istanbul. A fully air conditioned bus will pick you up from your hotel. A tour guide will accompany you during this trip in order to provide interesting descriptions and assist you. The bus will drive you towards the harbour in order to embark into a car ferry and cross the Marmara Sea. Breakfast, Full day tour of Iconic Istanbul – pick up by 08:30, drop off by 18:00; You can take in some of the most iconic sights of Istanbul in this morning tour that commences with a visit to the Blue Mosque. This magnificent mosque which was designed by Sinan and completed in 1616 is known for its majesty and superb iznik ceramic tiling.

Continue outside to stroll along the Hippodrome. This vast public space was built by the Romans in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD to accommodate events such as chariot races and gladiator fights. It is also home to the Column of Constantine, an Egyptian obelisk and the Serpentine Column.

Next to the Hippodrome we will visit the Hagia Sophia. Originally built in 537AD as a Greek Orthodox church, this breath-taking building was converted to a mosque by the Ottomans and is now a museum. Inside there are two floors built around a central nave. It is adorned with superb decorations and has an enormous dome that soars overhead.

Finish the morning with a walk through the Grand Bazaar for some shopping or just to absorb the sights, sounds and historic architectural beauty of this bustling market.

Lunch, Come on a tour to the famous Topkapi Palace and skip the queues that flock to see this magnificent and historically significant site. Built in the middle of the 15th century, the walled complex comprised of the palace and its buildings dominate a small raised peninsula. The buildings are nestled within beautiful grounds that sweep down to the sea. For centuries, the palace was the political centre of the highly influential Ottoman Empire and although it is now purely a museum, as you visit its parts including courtyards, the Treasury, various pavilions, the holy relics, weapons and the Harem you will see how great it was.

A lesser known part of the Hagia Sofia complex is the adjacent structure that houses the Sultan Tombs where five 16thand 17thcentury Ottoman sultans are interred. Alongside each sultan’s sarcophagus are many others that hold their wives, children and other notables. The tombs are all beautifully designed and feature beautiful examples of tile work, mosaics, calligraphy and kundekari (a decorative form of carpentry consisting of interlocking pieces of wood and mother of pearl).

Or; Not far from Topkapi Palace, this tour also takes you to Little Hagia Sophia Mosque which was constructed in the 6th century as a Greek Orthodox Church before being converted to a mosque in the early 16th century. Inside, this small octagonal mosque features a beautiful two-storeyed colonnade, marble pillars and a stunning umbrella dome.

The day’s tour also takes you to Mt Uludag where you are free to wander on your own or you may prefer to go on a quad bike safari or snow ski during the winter.

Breakfast, Full day tour of Europe & Asia, Panoramic views from Camlica Hill – pick up by 08:30, drop off by 18:00; Take a cruise on the Bosphorus Strait, the busy waterway that runs between the Marmara and Black Seas with European Istanbul on one shore and Asian Istanbul on the other. Sit back, relax and enjoy the fresh air, the sea and the sights as you pass magnificent palaces, mosques, mansions and places of historical note.

After getting off the boat at Eminounu, continue your tour into the historic Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar nearby that is bursting with traditional sweets, coffee and spices, and oozing with appeal.

This tour also takes you on a drive around part of the 20km of magnificent stone walls of old Istanbul that date from the 5th century. This series of walls surrounded the old city, featured 55 gates and 400 towers and is still an integral part of Istanbul.

Lunch, The Dolmabahce Palace was built during the first half of the 19th century as the administrative centre for the Ottoman Empire and home to the sultans and their families. This enormous palace is set amongst well-kept grounds and unlike earlier buildings of importance in Istanbul, it was built in a blend of Ottoman and classical European styles. The palace is very opulent and heavily decorated with gold, valuable stone (alabaster, marble and porphyry), crystal (including crystal chandeliers and the Crystal Staircase) and beautiful rugs.

Later you will drive over the Bosphorus Bridge to the summit of Camlica Hill which is popular for its magnificent panoramic views and the opportunity to take some great photos.

After breakfast at approximately 8:30 am, you will be picked up from your hotel to begin the full-day tour. Today on the tour you will visit Hagia Sophia Museum, Blue Mosque, Hippodrome , Grand Bazaar, and  Topkapi Palace . Lunch will be at a local restaurant. After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.

Day 3: Bosphorus Cruise and Two Continents Tour

After breakfast at approximately 8:30 am, you will be picked up from your hotel to join a full-day tour of the Bosphorus Cruise and Two Continents. Today on the tour you will visit Spice Bazaar (Egyptian) , Bosphorus Tour on Boat , Beylerbeyi Palace , Bosphorus Bridge, and Camlica Hill . After the tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel at approximately 5:00 pm.

Day 4: Princes’ Island Tour from Istanbul

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel around 8:30 am to join a full-day tour of the Princess Islands. You will then get on-board a local shared passenger boat for a short trip to reach Buyukada or the Princess Islands. On the Princess Islands, you will see traditional wooden houses and will enjoy panoramic views from the Islands. You will experience the narrow streets and beautiful views of the summer homes of some of the most affluent Turks. Lunch will be provided in a traditional Turkish restaurant; a fish entree is recommended. At the end of the tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel at approximately 5:30 pm.

Day 5: Bursa Tour from Istanbul

In the morning, you will depart by ferry to Yalova. After which drive to Bursa for a visit to Ulucamii (Great Mosque), Cumalikizik Village, Green Mosque, Green Tomb, and Uludag by cable car for a nice view of the mountain. After your tour of Bursa in late evening, return back to Istanbul around 8:30 pm.

Day 6: Departure from Istanbul – End of Tour Service

After breakfast, you will check-out from your hotel in Istanbul (hotel check-out is before 11:00 am) and will then be transferred to the Istanbul International airport according to your flight details. This will be the end of our tour and services.

• The order of the itinerary is indicative and subject to change, but all visits described will take place.
• This is a regular group tour, but if requested at cost can be provided as a private tour.
• The regular group tour has shopping stops included in the tour.
• Please advise your arrival details at the time of booking.
• Please note that the Blue Mosque is not open for visitation on Fridays as it is closed for religious prayer services. You will only be able to visit the outside of the Blue Mosque area on tours operated on Fridays. No visitation will be allowed inside the Blue Mosque for tourists on Fridays.
• St. Sophia is closed on Monday, this will be replaced with the Basilica Cistern (Yerebatan Sarnici).
• Topkapi Palace is closed on Tuesday, it will be replaced with the Beylerbeyi Palace.
• Grand Bazaar is closed on Sunday.
• Beylerbeyi Palace is closed on Mondays and Thursdays. If your tour falls on these days we will replace the visit to the Dolmabahce Palace with a visit to the Kariye Museum also known as The Chora Church .
• During religious holidays, the spice market and Grand Bazaar are closed.

One of the best resorts we’ve stayed in so far. We took 3d2n package with breakfast, lunch & din provided. Food given large quantity, esp seafood & service was fine. Stayed in Garden Villa chalet. Very clean & comfortable. Housekeeping crew came to clean, very prompt & quick. Clean & nice beach, about 20 paces away from room, as well as clean pool, about 10 paces from room. Surrounding well kept. Resort is, of course, not new but it’s more than adequate to unwind & relax. Came during off-peak season & feels like you have whole resort to yourself! Thank you to staff for memorable holiday.

Booking deposit* (non-refundable) of the full payment should be paid after your booking has been verified by Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours. Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours reserves the right to cancel your booking if you fail to make a full-payment 45 days before travelling dates.

Additional info for FIT Tour Package included the air ticket

• Upon registration and confirmation of airline ticket request, Traveller must remit full payment for airline ticket according to the dateline as advised by the person-in-charge in AMI Travel.
• For ground and other payments, traveler must remit booking deposit (a 100 % non-refundable) of 30% from the package price (excluding airline ticket) within three (3) days after registration or according to the dateline advised by person- in- charge in AMI. Balance payment must be made thirty (45) days prior to departure date or according to the dateline as advised by the person-in-charge in AMI.
• No changes can be made within 48 days before departure
• If participant wants to come back later or earlier than the expected date of arrival in Malaysia, participant must send an e-mail or letter 45 days before the travelling dates and it is subject to the discretion of Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours. However, Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours reserves the right to reject or accept it.

Cancellation

• Booking cancellation from the participant should be done through email or letter and must be sent to Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours for avoiding any misunderstanding
• Price is subject to change which based on currency fluctuation.
• Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours reserves the right to amend the itinerary without prior notice.
• Malaysian traveller, travel insurance is compulsory for international packages. Travel insurance click here.
• There will be no tour leader from Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours that will join this tour.
• Refund will not be paid immediately and will take more than 2 months.
• All hotel and flight details are for reference only and subject to change till you get the verification from Al Masyhur International Travel & Tours.
• Not all hotels provide electric kettle and ironing facilities. It is advisable to bring your own.
• Not all hotels have triple room. So that, triple sharing room is based on twin sharing room with extra bed. Each room must be at least 2 adults paying full fare then only follow by child fare.
• This package is not includes flight ticket unless it is stated, you will be charge RM 40/ticket/person if you want to book flight tickets with us.
• Validity of the passport must be more than 6 (six) months from arrival date.
• A copy of passport should be emailed to the tour officer 45 days before departure
