Dakota Fanning Reveals Gift Tom Cruise Gives Her Every Year for Her Birthday

hendersonville cruise in photos

The actress recently rang in her 30s with her annual gift from her co-star.

Dakota Fanning , while a pre-treen on the set of the War of The World, expressed excitement for two things: a Motorola Razr and adult shoes.

Nearly 20 years later, her co-star Tom Cruise continues to deliver.

The two, who played father and daughter Ray and Rachel Ferrier in the Steven Spielberg film when Fanning was only 11 years old, have continued a birthday tradition for nearly two decades. According to Fanning, now 30, she's unboxed a new pair of shoes from Cruise every year since 2005.

Appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show this week, Fanning recalled how she was just starting to fit into more adult shoes while on the press tour of their movie -- and was ready for her fashionista coming-of-age moment.

"I didn't have anyone to call but I just waned a Razr so bad," Fanning told Clarkson, confirming Cruise also gifted her the most popular phone in the US at the time for her 11th birthday.

“I loved shoes when I was little and I started to be able to fit into really small adult shoes when I was on the War of the Worlds press tour, I was very excited about that," she continued. "So from that birthday on he always sends me shoes."

Apparently Cruise really is the gift that keeps on giving, as Fanning has grown a massive luxe footwear collection since working together.

"That's so nice. You were together so long ago," Clarkson said. "That's so random too. I love it."

Cruise is known for his ongoing gifts for friends and has made headlines for the holiday cake he sends out for the holidays. Every year, Cruise sends a white chocolate coconut bundt cake made by Doan's Bakery in Woodland Hills, Calif. to his exclusive Hollywood circle. Retailing for $126, the cake features a coconut sponge, white chocolate chunks, cream cheese frosting and is covered in toasted coconut flakes.

Fanning's new film, The Watchers , hits theaters on Friday, June 7.

Two dozen United Airlines passengers fell ill on flight, had been on cruise

hendersonville cruise in photos

Around two dozen passengers fell ill on a United Airlines flight from Vancouver, Canada to Houston, Texas on Friday.

Approximately 25 people traveling in a group of 75 had nausea, according to Capt. Sedrick Robinett of the Houston Fire Department. HFD evaluated three passengers upon the plane’s arrival at George Bush Intercontinental Airport but none were transported to the hospital, he said.

“Several passengers who had been on the same cruise and did not feel well were on United Flight 1528 from Vancouver to Houston Friday night,” United told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. The airline did not answer a question about what cruise line or ship the flyers had been traveling on before their flight.

“United Airlines is actively coordinating with health authorities to address the situation,” the airline’s statement continued. “As a precautionary measure, the aircraft will be removed from service and go through a deep cleaning before returning to service. Ensuring the health and safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”

Is there a doctor on board?: Usually, yes. Here's why.

The Houston Health Department referred a request for comment to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Public health officers from CDC’s Houston Port Health Station worked with EMS to evaluate ill passengers on board," a CDC spokesperson said in an emailed statement. "Most of the ill passengers reported mild GI symptoms. No passengers were noted to have a fever during the flight or upon public health assessment at landing. No passengers met CDC criteria for further public health follow-up. Passengers from the flight continued with their travel plans."

The news comes after dozens of passengers on a Condor flight from Mauritius to Frankfurt, Germany mysteriously became sick with nausea and vomiting last month.

Parents of a toddler who tragically died in hospital after doctors allegedly turned away their pleas for blood tests have spoken out.

21-month-old Sandipan Dhar, from the northern Perth suburb of Joondalup, succumbed to leukemia on March 24.

His parents first took him to the Key Largo Medical Centre GP practice as he was battling a persistent fever but their request for a blood test were met with refusal, despite multiple visits.

According to the parents, doctors assured them that no further tests were necessary and advised monitoring Sandipan at home.

“The doctors said we didn’t need to do any further tests and should just take Sandipan home and monitor for at least five days to see if his fever dropped,” father Sanjoy Dhar said via The West Australian .

But Sandipan’s condition continued to deteriorate. His parents presented again at the Joondalup Health Campus, only to be turned away with the same advice.

hendersonville cruise in photos

Sandipan’s decline began after his 18-month vaccinations on February 19, following which he developed a fever.

Despite his parents’ multiple visits and calls to the GP practice, they were reassured that post-vaccination fevers were normal and were advised to treat it with Panadol and Nurofen.

When they returned two days later Sandipan struggled to breathe, an X-ray revealed he had pneumonia and was required to be put on oxygen.

“I asked the doctors how quickly pneumonia can develop because we had brought Sandipan on Friday and they said he was perfectly fine,” Mr Dhar said.

His father was instructed not to continue treatment.

“They didn’t give me an answer and said they needed to do further investigations.”

Mr Dhar said he was at a loss when doctors questioned why Sandipan hadn’t been brought in earlier, despite having been told he was fine just days before.

“The duty doctors and nurses were trying to put all the blame on us, saying that we came too late,” he said.

Never miss a story.

“But when we said we had been to the hospital on Friday, they just kept their mouths shut. From then onwards they didn’t use a single word about the complications of our baby.”

Tragically, while being treated at the hospital, Sandipan’s condition rapidly deteriorated.

His mother said she noticed blood trickling from his mouth as he was whisked away for emergency care.

Two hours later he was dead.

hendersonville cruise in photos

A postmortem revealed that the young boy had been suffering from leukemia, a diagnosis missed during his numerous medical visits.

Mr Dhar said Sandipan’s death has rocked his family to the core.

“Seeing photographs sets off Sandipan’s four-year-old brother Mrinal who still refuses to believe he is not coming back,” Mr Dhar said.

“We tried for days to explain it to Mrinal but it would make him so upset we eventually started lying and saying his brother has just gone away for a while.”

Key Largo Medical Centre declined to comment on the tragedy.

Ramsay Health Care, which operates Joondalup Health Campus, said it was “unlikely Sandipan’s hospital care was a factor in his death” in a statement.

A spokesperson said that samples collected from Sandipan “showed features of an undiagnosed longer term acute illness which may have contributed to his death”.
