Sparks Announce North American Headlining Tour for 2022

Sparks have announced a headlining North American tour, following on the heels of their two previously announced shows in Los Angeles for February 2022, which have already sold out.

After performing at L.A.’s Walt Disney Concert Hall on February 7th and 8th, Sparks will officially kick off the tour in San Francisco on March 11th. The tour runs through April 2nd with a final show in Toronto.

The Sparks Fan Club presale for the tour begins Tuesday, July 13th at 10:00 a.m. local time, and the Sparks Maeling List presale begins Wednesday, July 14th at 10:00 a.m. local time. General on-sale begins Friday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. local. Complete details and ticket availability can be found at allsparks.com .

Sparks were recently the subjects of Edgar Wright’s new film  The Sparks Brothers , exploring their career and widespread influence as a band. The brothers also lent their music to the upcoming film  Annette , directed by  Holy Motors filmmaker Leo Carax and starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. Originally conceived as a new Sparks album that would be presented as a narrative “opera” in a live tour, Sparks decided to collaborate with the director on the project after meeting him at the Cannes Film Festival.

“As fans of Leo’s films, to now realize that he would be directing a film of ours was beyond our dreams,” the band stated .

Sparks Announce 2022 North American Tour

Sparks have announced a North American tour set for 2022. The dates kick off in February for two previously-announced shows at Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall. The duo will then head across the United States before concluding the tour in Canada. Check out Sparks’ tour poster below.

Last year, brothers Ron and Russell Mael released the new Sparks record A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip . The duo is also the subject of a new Edgar Wright documentary The Sparks Brothers . In August, Annette , a film written by Sparks and initially conceived as a new record, will show at select U.S. theaters. Sparks recently shared a song from the film, “ So May We Start ,” which features vocals from Adam Driver, Marion Cotillard, and Simon Helberg.

The legendary Sparks have unveiled plans for an eagerly awaited North American headlining tour. “Sparks Tour 2022” begins February 7, 2022 for two previously announced, sold out and sure-to-be-legendary nights at Los Angeles, CA’s Walt Disney Concert Hall and then travels the continent through early April.

Film fans are salivating over the release of Edgar Wright’s new documentary, The Sparks Brothers . The film hit limited theaters on June 18 to near unanimous critical acclaim.

Sparks Announce First North American Tour in Five Years

The 17-date outing kicks off next February

Sparks have scheduled their first full-scale North American tour in five years.

The 17-date outing kicks off in early February with a pair of previously announced dates at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Starting in March, the duo of Ron and Russell Mael will play shows across the US and Canada, including stops in San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Nashville, New York City, and Boston, before wrapping up on April 2nd in Toronto.

Tickets for Sparks’ upcoming tour go on sale to the general public starting Friday, July 16th at 10:00 a.m. local time (a fan club pre-sale takes place three days earlier on Tuesday, July 13th).

The art-pop icons are amid something of a resurgence. Aside from their upcoming tour, they’re the focus of a n ew documentary directed by Edgar Wright. Sparks also wrote the screenplay and composed the music for the new movie, Annette, starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard. The film’s accompanying soundtrack is due for release on August 6th.

The duo released their 24th studio album, 'A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip', last year

Sparks have announced a North American tour for next year, taking place predominantly across March.

The tour follows the release of the band’s 24th studio album, ‘A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip’ , in May last year. Following on from their previously announced shows at Los Angeles’ Walt Disney Concert Hall, the duo will make stops in San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Chicago and New York, among other cities. Tickets go on sale this Friday (July 16).

In May, Sparks released the track ‘So May We Start’ , featuring vocals from Marion Cotillard, Adam Driver and Simon Helberg. The track comes from Annette , the new musical film directed by Leos Carax, who co-wrote the script with Sparks’ Ron and Russell Mael. A  video for ‘So May We Start’ arrived this month, also featuring Cotillard and Driver.

Annette opened the 74th annual Cannes Film Festival last week, and is being followed by a theatrical release on August 6.

The pair were also the subject of the 2021 Edgar Wright documentary The Sparks Brothers , which explored the Mael brothers’ decades-long career. NME gave the film a four-star review , writing that “Wright has done a great job in assembling interesting, enthusiastic contributors with something worthwhile to say”.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
