"They say there is a bar for each day of the year in York. They come in all shapes and sizes and there is even a walking tour, which traces their history, some dating back to the 16th century. Keith Martin will share his passion for York's oldest pubs in return for a donation to Keep Your Pet a charity which helps people keep their animals at difficult times"

Offering thirteen en-suite bedrooms with flat screen TV’s, regional real ales and classic British food in our AA rosette restaurant.”

“Guido Fawkes was born on this very spot in 1570 in the shadow of York Minster  and was baptised in St. Michael Le Belfrey, just across the street.  Centuries have passed, but this historical building is so well preserved you could be forgiven for thinking it happened just yesterday.

Did you know that as a former property owned by  Guy Fawkes  and his family we are prohibited from celebrating Bonfire night? Yes, all buildings formerly owned by the man himself can not celebrate this annual date in the diary, including his former school St Peters.”

The Black Swan pub was originally an early 15th century merchant’s mansion and is the place where various ghostly sightings have occurred.   “There is a ghost of the gentleman in a bowler hat who appears to be impatiently waiting for someone at the bar – eventually his apparition slowly fades away.

Dating from the 15th century, this half-timbered pub with rooms is a block from the River Foss, a 10 minute walk from York Castle and a 5-10 minute walk from Jorvik Viking Centre.

Our traditional rooms all include en suite bathrooms and antique, 4-poster beds with rich draperies. Parking and breakfast are complimentary.

guided historic pub tour york

If you're looking to learn more about the history, culture and architecture of your hometown (or you're visiting the city and want to learn more), a walking tour is a great way to do it.

Here are a few walking tours of Milwaukee sites and neighborhoods.

Historic Milwaukee walking tours

Historic Milwaukee is a nonprofit organization that hosts walking tours and events like Doors Open Milwaukee in order to raise awareness about the city's architecture and history.

Historic Milwaukee Special Tours are guided walking tours.

Paper maps are available at the Milwaukee Public Market or Historic Third Ward Association, online at augmentedhistory.org
