About Paris

Experience Granada in Hop On Hop Off Bus Tours

Located in the south of Spain, Granada is a popular tourist destination in Spain. The city has a rich history and heritage with several settlements calling it home in the past including Romans, Visigoths, and Iberians. In the 13th century, the city was under Nasrid’s rule followed by Christian conquest. The city has buildings and monuments with remarkable Moorish, Baroque, and Renaissance architecture.

Although the city was eventually retaken from the Moors by the Catholics, the city’s Spanish-Islamic art and architecture remain a distinct part of the city. During your next Granada sightseeing trip, discover some of its most beautiful palaces and gardens at your own leisure during a flexible bus tour. The tour will cover key attractions including Alhambra

Cuesta Gomérez, Paseo de los Tristes, Plaza Abad, Mirador de San Nicolás, Plaza San Miguel Bajo, Plaza Romanilla, Catedral, Calle Alhóndiga, Plaza Nueva, Paseo de los Tristes, and more. And, if you consider yourself a history buff, then you’ll certainly enjoy the two-day pass to enjoy sightseeing at your own pace while ticking key attractions off your bucket list.

Manchester City announce open top bus parade to celebrate historic Premier League win

  • Manchester City
  • Monday 20 May 2024 at 3:45pm

granada tour bus

Manchester City have announced an open top bus parade to celebrate winning the Premier League for an historic fourth time .

The parade, which will see the team travel from the National Football Museum along Deansgate in the city centre, will take place on Sunday 26 May, a week after the team's win.

But celebrations have been forced into the evening as the Great Manchester Run takes place on the same day, only finishing at 3.30pm.

The celebratory parade will begin at 7.30pm and is expected to finish around 9.00pm.

Fans will be able to get a glimpse of the team and the silverware as they make their way from the National Football Museum, through Cathedral Gardens and along the length of Deansgate, stopping at several points along the way.

It may even become a double celebration if the Sky Blues take home the FA Cup on 25 May against bitter cross-city rivals Manchester United.

City's 3-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium meant they became the first male English team since the Premier League began in 1888 to win four-successive top-flight titles.

The victory is not only the fourth title in a row for manager Pep Guardiola , but his sixth in the past seven years.

He could also become the first manager to win back-to-back domestic doubles in England when they take on United in the FA Cup.

Those attending the parade are reminded the city is expected to be busy with tens of thousands of runners and spectators taking to the streets for the Great Manchester Run.

The parade has been pushed back into the evening to allow enough time for Deansgate, where the race ends, to be reset at 3:30 pm, Manchester City Council said.

There will also be a number of road closures in place to facilitate both the run and parade, with the use of public transport strongly recommended.

Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: "Congratulations to Manchester City.

"Being crowned premier league champions once again and for an astonishing fourth year in a row is an incredible achievement by the club and its players, showing once again that Manchester's world class sporting credentials really are second to none.

"We know how much this means to fans of the club young and old - not just in Manchester but around the globe - and the homecoming parade on Sunday promises to be an unmissable night to remember for fans and players alike as they celebrate this historic title win together."

Arda Guler is Real Madrid’s ‘main attraction’ in the closing weeks of the season

Arda Guler attacking midfield of Real Madrid and Turkey celebrates after scoring his sides second goal during the LaLiga EA Sports match between Villarreal CF and Real Madrid CF at Estadio de la Ceramica on May 19, 2024 in Villarreal, Spain. (Photo by Jose Breton/Pics Action/NurPhoto via Getty Images)

When the final whistle blew in Real Madrid ’s madcap 4-4 draw with Villarreal , Arda Guler only had the strength to lower his head and close his eyes in exhaustion.

Antonio Rudiger gave him a playful slap on his neck and the 19-year-old Turkish midfielder left the pitch, waving one by one to each team-mate and opponent. Guler had played a key role with two goals and his best performance since arriving at Madrid last summer.

“Arda has shown something special,” head coach Carlo Ancelotti said.

Guler’s brace against Villarreal means he has scored six goals for Madrid from six shots on target in La Liga and has the best goals-per-90-minutes ratio of anyone in the squad. It has come at the perfect time after speculation linking him with a loan move next season.

go-deeper

How Real Madrid beat Barcelona to Arda Guler - and why fans had to wait for debut

Not that Ancelotti had any doubts.

“He is going to be a very important player,” the Italian said three weeks ago after the Real Sociedad game. “There is no doubt that he will be here next year.”

The start of Guler’s season could not have been more different . According to sources close to the initial €20million ($21.7m; £17.1m at current exchange rates) deal to bring him to Madrid from Fenerbahce , he joined nursing a meniscus injury.

He shone in his first few training sessions with his new club, but he suffered an injury during the pre-season tour of the United States and was forced to undergo surgery.

granada tour bus

It delayed his debut and led to a frustrating period in which Guler suffered two subsequent muscle injuries. He was out for 106 days and missed 22 games. “We have to be patient — he’s just a kid,” coaching staff sources — who asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships — told The Athletic at the time.

Guler finally made his debut on January 6 in a Copa del Rey match against lower-league Arandina and showed his first glimpses of quality. But he had to wait until March 10 for his first goal, against Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Since Madrid wrapped up the La Liga title this month, he has been given more minutes and become the team’s “main attraction” according to various team sources. At Villarreal, he was one of the players most cheered by children as he stepped off the team bus — perhaps because they see themselves reflected in the teenager.

This was another showcase of Guler’s talent. He opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a left-footed shot from inside the box and was a constant threat from the right wing. He completed four dribbles, made three successful long passes, provided a key pass and finished with 50 of 55 passes completed (a 91 per cent rate).

The coaching staff highlighted Guler’s decision-making under pressure, something that goes beyond the innate talent everyone admires.

“He has quality, but above all, he puts that quality at the service of the team,” one source said. “He is making the most of his moment.”

That was clear in his running back to help left-back Fran Garcia , winning seven duels and leading several counter-attacks. Guler’s second goal illustrated his fine close control as he cut in from the right-hand side and sent another left-footed shot past Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen .

It was his sixth goal in just 287 minutes of La Liga action — his current rate of 1.43 goals per 90 minutes is the best of anyone in the Madrid squad, according to FBref.com . That those goals have come from six shots on target is proof he is looking to make up for lost time.

granada tour bus

“I’ve completely adapted to the team, everyone is helping me,” Guler told Real Madrid TV. “I want to keep scoring goals to make my team-mates and the people who believe in me happy.”

After another goal he scored against Granada, Guler had tagged Madrid’s chief scout Juni Calafat in a photo on Instagram. Calafat, who played an important part in bringing him to the club and is one of his main supporters, reposted the photo.

And despite recent reports suggesting Guler could be moved back into midfield for next season, Ancelotti is clear where he sees him at his most effective. “He has a special talent that can naturally be used closer to goal rather than further away,” he said.

The game at Villarreal was not as serene as Madrid would have hoped — with Alexander Sorloth going clear as La Liga’s top scorer with four goals, rescuing a point for his side from 4-1 down.

But Guler’s comeback is providing plenty of excitement for Madrid fans in these closing weeks of the season, with La Liga done and the Champions League final on the horizon. After months of waiting, fans and coaching staff are enjoying his performances. The European Championship with Turkey will provide him with another chance to shine.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

granada tour bus

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

granada tour bus

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

granada tour bus

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

granada tour bus

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

granada tour bus

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

granada tour bus

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

granada tour bus

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
