Fear Factory (formed in 1990) is an American industrial, groove, death and thrash metal band, hailing from Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Formed by vocalist Burton C. Bell, percussionist Raymond Herrera, and ex-Douche Lord guitarist Dino Cazares, Fear Factor utilises a whole host of metal and sonic soundscape as an outlet for their pessimistic view of modern society. The band contributed two songs to the L.A. Death Metal compilation, which resulted in signing with Roadrunner Records who released their debut album “Soul of a New Machine” in 1992. The album featured new bassist Andrew Shives, allowing Cazares to play guitar on tour and was followed by the electronically experimental EP “Fear Is the Mind Killer”, featuring remixes by Rhys Fulber and Bill Leeb and marking the arrival of Reynor Diego.

Prior to the band’s sophomore album of new material “Demanufacture” in 1995, Shives was fired from band and replaced by Christian Olde Wolbers. Similar to its predecessor “Demanufacture” was followed by another remix project entitled “Remanufacture (Cloning Technology”, this time Fear Factory tried their hand at electronic remix contributions along with a number of techno-orientated artists.

Following Diego’s departure and Steve Tushar arrival and a number of side-projects including Cazares and Herrera’s Brujeria, and Nailbomb, Fear Factory returned in 1998 to released their third full-length “Obsolete”. The album marked the band’s biggest success to date, with an accomplished alternative metal style within a growing hybrid market. Following appearances on several film and video game soundtracks including “Mortal Kombat” and “Test Drive 5”, and shows at Ozzfest 1999, Fear Factor’s fan base swelled ahead of their fourth studio album “Digimortal” in 2001.

The album proved to be their most commercially popular reaching the Top 40 of the Billboard 200, however marked the departure of Cazares, with Wolbers moved to guitar and Byron Stroud hired to fill the bass spot. After being dropped by Roadrunner subsequent to the tumultuous line-up, Fear Factor released a set of original 1991 recordings under the title “Concrete” in 2002. The band soon singed with Liquid 8 who issued their 2004 album “Archetype”, followed in 2005 by the relentless “Transgression”.

Fear Factor then went on a hiatus to allow old wounds to heal, returning in 2009 when Bell and Cazares had made peace with one another. With the help of Byron Stroud on bass, Gene Hoglan on drums, and the continued membership of Herrera and Wolbers, the band released the album “Mechanize” in 2010 and the concept album “The Industrialist” in 2012.

Live reviews

When I learned that Fear Factory would play in Portugal I decided right away that I had to go, since I've been a fan for some many years. I confess I got a little desapointed by three aspects, but anyway, just seeing those guys blast the whole Demanufacture, plus some more classics and some new stuff is definately worth it. The aspects that kind of disapointed me were:

1. This one is not even the band's fault, but the sound wasn't good. There were noises in the middle of the songs and it was not well equalized.

2. Burton was kind of voiceless. His voice would sometimes fail and very often go completely out of tune in the clean vocal parts.

3. And mainly, Dino's completely lack of energy and interaction with the public. He stayed close to the drums almost the whole concert, looked really bored and turned his back on the public right after he eneded playing the last note of each song. He didn't even throw a pick or anything, Tony was the one who threw Dino's picks after he threw his own in the end of the concert. He (Tony) was much more energic and interactive. I had seen him before with Soulfly. He had been so attentive then, that I made him a sign to throw a pick in the end of a song and he did throw it right in my direction, so I could get it in the air. With Fear Factory he was just as good (I didn't have the chance to ask him for another pick though :P). I understand Dino is a "heavy" guy and not that young anymore, so he may lack the energy to go crazy in each and every concert during the tour. He even touched his back sometimes, showing some discomfort. But come on, throwing a pick wouldn't tire him at all.

Anyway, it's Fear Factory. It's Dino, It's Burton. It's their history, their creativity and their pioneerism that make it all worth it, no matter how bored Dino was or how fucked up Burton's voice was :p

Fear Factory is an American metal band, which was formed in the year 1990. This band was so successful that they released eight full studio albums.

"Resurrection" is an awesome song. It really grabs you. Some of the lyrics that I love in this song state, "Revive all my fears. Revive wasted tears. Revive void within. Revive once again. . .."

These guys are cool and dressed in all black. The lead singer even has black hair and looks super cool. The guitars in this song are super loud and the lead singer screams at all of the right places. In the clip that I watched of this song, their was a huge audience, and they were all headbanging and getting into the song.

This band knows how to perform because the audience really enjoyed it. "Cars" is another cool song by them. It was extremely popular. It is not as hard as some of the other songs of them. It is really easy to sing along to. The instruments are still loud in the song, but the singer does not scream in this one. However, the audience still loves this song because this band really knows how to perform for an audience.

It is pretty hard to tie Fear Factory down to one genre as their music freely skips between industrial, thrash and even groove at times but there is one thing for sure, it is hell intense. With over two decades of experience on the live circuit, the Californian group really knows how to enthuse a venue and to turn a crowd from mere spectators into the very life blood of a performance.

They have clocked over a thousand live performances and this dedication is rarely matched by their peers. This sheer relent has benefits though as they are now one of the most technically gifted thrash bands on the circuit thanks to years of practice night after night. They have never really hit the big time but this does not seem to bother the musicians onstage who are happy to turn whatever space they are given into complete uncontrolled mayhem. The crowd gets really involved, head banging along and surging towards the stage through the show before a mammoth finale of 'Replica' ends the show in a suitably loud way.

The Demanufacture 20th Anniversary Tour is not a thing to miss if you're into modern metal. The album is legendary for what it did to the scene. One can't dispute that, regardless of whether you like the band or not.

They are in good shape, and this is one of its strongest lineups to date. I would say this is definitely the third big (and probably final) era of Fear Factory, after the Core Years and the Meltdown Years.

They still kick immense ass and I am amazed Burton can still rip his throat each night like that. His voice does get tired, but I can't think of anyone who wouldn't feel the burn. Dino delivers the usual mass assault. Mike and Tony are a great team and perform like well oiled machinery.

The machine is still alive. Experience it live if you can.

vesper_dbs’s profile image

They played the entire Demanufacture album from start to finish with absolute perfection. The remaining set list was great. They played a full hour and a half. Combined with Soilwork this show is completely worth it.

david-bradley-1’s profile image

A bit too loud. At some point it's only becoming a sound mass of noise and it's hard to hear music out of it. But besides that it was good and would go again.

FEAR FACTORY Frontman Checks In With Video Message From Moscow

A new video message from vocalist Burton C. Bell of cyber metallers FEAR FACTORY from the final stop of the band's European tour with METALLICA in Moscow, Russia can be viewed below.

FEAR FACTORY is set to kick off the second leg of its American "Fear Campaign" tour on May 14 at The Rialto Theater in Tucson, Arizona. The trek, also featuring PRONG , THY WILL BE DONE and SILENT CIVILIAN , will visit twenty cities before it concludes at The Trocadero Theater in Philadelphia.

After a successful performance at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles on April 8, scheduled for television broadcast via VH1 on May 22, FEAR FACTORY flew to Oslo, Norway for a eight-show run with METALLICA . The band, like many others, is resorting to travel by land and sea, with more than 20,000 flights cancelled on the European continent last week due to the volcanic activity happening in Iceland. Guitarist Dino Cazares noted, "It took us over 24 hours to get from Oslo to Riga in Latvia with METALLICA and their crew of 50-plus people on a charter bus and ferry. All flights were cancelled because of the volcanic ash in the air." Burton C. Bell added, "We took a ferry from Oslo to get to Latvia. It was the METALLICA party boat; good times. We are basically taking buses and trains everywhere so if you can catch us, catch us."

FEAR FACTORY 's new single, "Final Exit" , follows the success of earlier metal radio singles "Powershifter" and "Fear Campaign" . Two special edits of the eight-minute song are now playing via three of AOL Radio 's online music channels. Rhys Fulber with Cazares and Bell realized the edits while the band was touring the U.S. in late March. The song has already received specialty airplay via Active Rock stations KUPD in Phoenix, Arizona and KEYJ in Abilene, Texas.

Lyrically, "Final Exit" draws attention to the much criticized and sensitive issue of self-deliverance as introduced in the 1992 book by Derek Humphry , founder of the Hemlock Society and past president of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies. Bell explains, " Dino and I have created the edits to condense the song into a time specific for radio. We are very happy fans are loving the song for it is one that touches upon the importance of the freedom of choice and personal liberty that all human beings should be allowed. The song hopefully will create awareness for the support group Final Exit Network ," the song’s namesake. Passionately Bell continues, "The right to life extends beyond life itself. If the medical community cannot, and will not find a cure due to cost effectiveness, then humanity needs the choice of a dignified, self-deliverance from continual, painful treatments from debilitating disease. We have been contacted by many fans who connect with this song on many levels, and with 'Final Exit' being played on the radio, we hope others will also become aware, understand, and enjoy this song."

FEAR FACTORY 's new album, "Mechanize" , was released in the U.S. on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records . The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber ( FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY , PARADISE LOST ),was mixed by Greg Reely ( PARADISE LOST , FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY , SKINNY PUPPY ).

FEAR FACTORY 's current lineup — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who was credited on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE ) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan ( DETHKLOK , STRAPPING YOUNG LAD , DARK ANGEL , DEATH , TESTAMENT ) — made its live debut on December 4, 2009 at Espaço Lux in São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brazil.

Fear Factory Hellfest 2024

Election latest: Farage urged to 'get a grip' of Reform UK amid racism row

John Healey, the shadow defence secretary, has urged Nigel Farage to "get a grip" of Reform UK after a racism row involving the prime minister. It comes as a Reform UK canvasser who used a racial slur against Rishi Sunak called himself a "total fool" and said he has learned his lesson.

Sir Keir Starmer today refused to say whether David Lammy would be his foreign secretary under a Labour government.

Speaking to reporters, the Labour leader said he will "work hard until 10 o'clock on Thursday" to get votes, adding: "I'm not going to announce anybody who may be in a cabinet after Thursday if we win."

Asked if he was concerned about the prospect of a super-majority, Sir Keir said that "the numbers are really tight, it'll go down to a few hundred in many constituencies".

He added: "We have to win every vote, earn the trust across the country."

More from Sir Keir Starmer, who has hit out at "desperate" and "ridiculous" Conservative attempts to portray Labour as a risk to national security.

Speaking on a campaign visit, he told reporters he had been granted access to sensitive intelligence by the government so it was wrong for ministers to now claim he would be a danger.

He said: "I think this is desperate stuff from the Tories. We are the party that were the founder member of NATO.

"If you go to Brussels and see the treaty there for NATO, it's a Labour secretary of state that signed that and our support for NATO has been unshakeable since then.

"On the nuclear deterrent, we're clear about the triple lock that we've put in place, not only the current deterrent but the future upgrades of that deterrent and the jobs that go with it.

"We have also - and this is why it is really desperate from the Tories - united with this government, the Tory government, on really important issues of national security. As a result of that, they have given me high-level sensitive briefings, so much do they trust us on national security.

"I'm very glad that they have and I do thank the defence secretary for facilitating that, particularly during Ukraine when they gave us very regular, very sensitive briefings.

"To now turn around and make this ridiculous claim just shows how desperate they have become going into this election. It does them no good."

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has urged Nigel Farage to "set the tone" in his party after a racism row involving Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Speaking to Sky News at Aldershot Football Club in Hampshire, Sir Keir was asked what he believes attracts people to joining a party like Reform UK.

He said: "Leadership accepts the culture and the tone of an organisation, in this case a political party.

"It's no good Nigel Farage after the event saying that he doesn't agree with certain comments.

"You set the culture, you set the tone. That's what leadership is about.

"And that's why I set about changing the Labour Party four and a half years ago. And that took an act of leadership, steely determination, so that we could ensure the Labour Party going into this election is a changed Labour Party."

Sir Keir went on to insist that Mr Farage is "not a spectator" - but is the leader of Reform UK: "Leaders have to set the tone."

He added: "Leaders have to set the tone, set the standards and take the action so that people know in advance what is acceptable and what's not acceptable.

"I think that's a very important part of leadership."

Pledges and promises are coming thick and fast from every party as the general election approaches.

Struggling to keep up with who is saying what?

Here is a summary of where the main parties stand on major issues.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone is the UK's most westerly constituency and its most marginal.

Sinn Fein won the seat by just four votes in 2010 and by a mere 57 in 2019.

Witness to one of the worst terrorist atrocities - Enniskillen's Poppy Day bombing in 1987 - it has been scarred by the past.

But at Erne Wrestling Club in Irvinestown, they refuse to submit to those divisions.

Coach Alex Edgar said: "Activities like this bring everybody together and religion doesn't mean anything.

"It's all about having fun and at the end of the day, it gets them out of the house and keeps them fit and active."

One topic many people will be watching closely throughout the general election campaign is how parties are approaching LGBTQ+ issues.

Below, Sky News has wrapped up everything you need to know...

By Dr Hannah Bunting, Sky News elections analyst, and Joely Santa Cruz, data journalist

This week the party leaders made their final pleas to voters.

The Labour and Lib Dem leaders visited some of their most ambitious targets so far, while the prime minister took a scattergun approach, fighting for votes in even some of the safest of Tory seats.

This campaign is being fought on new electoral boundaries, with many constituencies undergoing significant changes since 2019.

For the purposes of this analysis, we use notional results based on  calculations by Colin Rallings and Michael Thrasher , honorary professors at the University of Exeter, which estimate the 2019 election seat results if they had taken place on the new constituency boundaries.

Reform and Labour have bought up advertising on two major national news sites in a bid to sway voters in the remaining days before the general election.

When looking at MailOnline, Nigel Farage's stern face beams down from both the main banner and the left of the site.

Their manifesto - which have they been calling their "contract" with the public - is pasted down the side of the news website.

Meanwhile, Labour, perhaps in a bid to emulate 1992's "It's the Sun Wot Won It" front page, have pasted their advertising all over The Sun online.

With a countdown to 4 July, they also bemoan "14 years of Tory chaos".

Crucially, neither of these papers have openly endorsed a candidate, although a regular reader may be forgiven for not noticing this nuance.

In 1992, The Sun claimed credit for the victory of the Conservative Party, after openly campaigning to drive voters away from the then-Labour leader Neil Kinnock.

It is regularly cited as demonstrative of the influence the tabloid press could have over politicians and elections.

So far, the Daily Telegraph has come out in support of the Tories, while the Guardian, Daily Mirror, Economist, New Statesman and Daily Record have all backed the Labour Party.

The Times, The Sun and the Daily Mail have not endorsed anyone, and the Daily Star has taken the unusual (but perhaps unsurprising) approach of supporting Count Binface, labelling him the "most sane politician in the UK".

And while the Mirror has already backed Labour, and despite - at first glance - appearing to be plastered with advertising for the party, the red banners promising "change" are actually for coffee brand Nespresso.

Sky News has been looking at the advertising as part of the Online Election project - a Sky News initiative to cover how the campaign is playing out online, led by Tom Cheshire , Online Campaign correspondent .

We also found  one party has been dominating social media  - but it's not the one spending the most.

Reform UK has been dominating, with its page growing by more than 32,000 followers over the course of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Tories have only seen 596 new followers.

Sixteen of the top 20 most-loved posts were also from Mr Farage.

And for some Tories, the only brand has been seen as so bad, that  some have ditched it altogether .

John Healey, the shadow defence secretary, has urged Nigel Farage to "get a grip" of Reform UK after a racism row involving the prime minister.

It comes as a Reform UK canvasser who used a racial slur against Rishi Sunak has called himself a "total fool" and said he has learned his lesson.

Footage from an undercover Channel 4 reporter showed Reform campaigner Andrew Parker using a discriminatory term about the prime minister, as well as saying the army should "just shoot" migrants crossing the Channel.

Police are now assessing the comments to establish if an offence has been committed, while Mr Sunak  said the insult directed at him "hurts and it makes me angry".

Asked about this, Mr Healey said: "To some extent, I see him fuelling a row over this Channel 4 film to distract, really, from the fact that there are officials and there are candidates right at the heart of the Reform party, that have been responsible for racist, anti-gay, and other deeply offensive statements.

"And it's for Farage to take action on them. And in the end, the culture and the standards of any political party are set by the leader and Nigel Farage wants to be seen as a leader.

"He needs to get a grip of his own party and he's failing to do that at the moment."

He compared the situation to the "very similar challenge" faced by Sir Keir Starmer in tackling the "antisemitism that had been allowed to fester in parts of the Labour Party".

"He did that and that's the responsibility of any leader of any political party".

More now from security minister Tom Tugendhat, who is on the media round this morning.

He did not rule out a run at the Tory leadership if Rishi Sunak quits following the general election.

Asked if he wanted to be leader, he told Times Radio: "What I want to do is to make sure we've got a Conservative leader in this country and that's why I'm supporting Rishi Sunak.

"Because the alternative with Keir Starmer, I'm afraid, is higher taxes, more regulation, worse growth and more unemployment.

"What we need to do is to make sure that Conservatives across this country win their seats and that's exactly what I've been focused on."

Pressed again on the issue of what happens after the election, he said: "Well, we'll deal with hypotheticals in a different way.

"I mean, the reality is Rishi Sunak is the candidate, there's only two candidates for prime minister, there's Rishi Sunak and there's Sir Keir Starmer.

"One of them is committed to lowering your taxes, protecting your borders and making a difference in everybody's lives.

"The other, I'm afraid, is Sir Keir Starmer who is committed to raising your taxes, to making life a little bit harder for everybody and to lecturing you on how to live your life."
