Domestic border restrictions have ended for nearly all States, meaning you:
- don’t need to apply for a border pass

However, some States and service operators do require proof of vaccination. So all that is required to travel for most Discover Australia packages is to be fully vaccinated. Even WA has now opened up! It is expected that any remaining temporary restrictions will end or ease over coming weeks – since all governments have detailed strategies to live with Covid and to enable their tourism industry to flourish again. Many travel insurance providers are now offering good cover for Covid, including:
- Travel disruptions and additional expenses due to Covid
- Positive Covid test before travel
- Positive Covid test during travel (including need to change travel arrangements / isolation)
- Cancellation Cover
- Medical expenses cover
Insurance cover can be very inexpensive, like only $150 for three weeks in Europe # . We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance with Covid cover. Choosing to postpone closer to travel may incur supplier change fees, but no fees from us. #2 If your holiday is disrupted due to Covid by us (or a service provider) you will receive a Travel Credit to re-book a holiday. Agent of Douglas Luiz offers client to Barcelona as unique double transfer deal takes shape
A ston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz would reportedly prefer a move to Barcelona over Juventus if he is to leave Villa Park this summer – amid claim his agent has seemingly offered the player and his partner Alisha Lehmann in a shock double deal.
The Villans are being forced to consider the sale of their brilliant Brazilian midfielder this summer as they – along with a cluster of other Premier League sides – race to generate funds by June 30 to appease Premier League rules. As a result, the man who was one of the driving forces behind their top-four finish this season could find himself on the move in deal that will badly sting Aston Villa .
Luiz scored nine goals and added five assists as Unai Emery’s side qualified for the Champions League for the first time since the 1982/83 season – a quite brilliant achievement.
But just a matter of weeks after celebrating that success, Luiz could be on the move with reluctantly willing to sacrifice the player they previously valued at around the £100m mark in a cut-price deal.
GO DEEPER The five star players Aston Villa may have to sell this summer, including Arsenal and Man Utd targets
To that end, preliminary talks have been held over a move to Juventus, who are looking to beef up their central midfield options. While funds at the Serie A giants are also quite tight, they are reportedly looking to finance the deal by offering Villa a swap deal involving Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior , as well as a cash lump sum of €20m (£17m.)
Surprisingly, Villa are said to be in favour of such a move with Emery seeing McKennie as a potential replacement in the midfield, while also landing a long-term target at the same time in the form of Iling-Junior.
Aston Villa transfers: Douglas Luiz agent offers star to Barcelona
At the same time, Villa are also hoping for a cash boost by sanctioning the sale of Colombia striker Jhon Duran, who looks likely to be on the move to Chelsea. A package in the region of £50m has been agreed with Duran having already agreed personal terms on the move to Stamford Bridge.
As for Luiz , his agent has already agreed personal terms with Juventus, though it seems the player has other ideas and is not entirely sold on the idea of moving to Italy.
Instead, reports in Spain claim his agent has also been in contact with Barcelona to offer his client to the Spanish giants, who themselves are keen on adding a new central midfielder to their ranks this summer.
Furthermore, it’s suggested that any deal to take Luiz to the Nou Camp could also involve his partner, the Aston Villa ladies star Lehmann.
The Swiss forward is one of the most recognisable faces in the WSL after starring for Villa Ladies over the past three seasons.
She has scored 14 times in 75 games for the club following a 2021 transfer from Everton.
DON’T MISS Aston Villa enter talks for title-winning Man Utd target, as own player linked with stunning move
However, she is arguably better known for her social media posts off the field, which have captured plenty of attention owing to her on/off and now very much on again relationship with Luiz.
Together, the two are a formidable marketing force, though also two exceptional footballers in their own right.
As a result, any move for Luiz would impact on Lehmann too, so the chance to bring her to the uber-talented Barcelona Femeni could be an ideal solution for both players.
Luiz and Lehmann’s contracts at Villa both run to 2026 and it remains to be seen if Barcelona will take advantage of the Brazilian’s agents offer to sign both players this summer.

Aston Villa’s complex transfer deals: Big sale needed, Douglas Luiz and PSR issues to solve
Over the past 18 months, all junctures have been leading to this summer for Aston Villa .
The can had been kicked down the road in adhering to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). The issue, fleetingly, alleviated last summer through creative methods of circumventing PSR rules, chiefly by selling academy talent.
Yet in truth, the first steps on the narrowing path can be traced back to this time two years ago, when Keinan Davis’s proposed move to Nottingham Forest collapsed. An effective loan was expected to fetch £15million ($19.3m), helping to balance the books and avoid a big sale elsewhere.
But Davis ended up staying and the school of thought diverged, giving focus to Steven Gerrard’s botched tenure and then his successful replacement, Unai Emery. Villa’s recruitment became more about placating the manager as opposed to falling in line with PSR.
Such rope could only stretch so far. Even at a time when Villa are prosperous on the pitch and will compete in the Champions League next season, they are hamstrung in what they can — and pertinently, cannot — do.
It stings Villa’s senior figures, having known for some time that a big sale will likely happen to sign the calibre of players fitting for a first Champions League campaign.
Owner Nassef Sawiris is considering taking legal action against the Premier League’s PSR rules. Sawiris insisted the regulations, which place a limit on the amount clubs can lose across a three-year period, “do not make sense” and “are not good for football”. Last week, Villa’s proposal to raise the maximum permitted losses from £105million to £135million over three years was rejected at the Premier League ’s annual general meeting. Only one club was in favour of Villa’s idea, while three abstained.
Villa view PSR sanctions as restrictive and impede upwardly mobile clubs from regularly competing among the elite.
Evidently, such a hardened viewpoint has been influenced by Villa’s latest set of accounts, reporting a loss of £119.6million after tax in the year ending May 31, 2023, at odds with the marginal profit of £300,000 from 12 months earlier.
Despite Champions League money adding to the revenue pot for the next set of accounts, Villa have reached the point where something needed to give. NSWE, Villa’s ownership group led by Sawiris and co-owner Wes Edens, appointed Bjorn Schuurmans as a secretary. Schuurmans has worked in tax and structuring at other companies, with his skill set being relied upon in managing this summer’s finances.
Villa’s wages-to-turnover ratio — the percentage of money spent on employees’ salaries — stood at 89 per cent in 2022 and 2023, the fourth-highest in the Premier League. It is a concern, though, that the three teams above were Leicester City , Nottingham Forest and Everton , all of whom have breached PSR rules and are in varying processes of being sanctioned.
Douglas Luiz is increasingly likely to be the player that signals Villa giving ground. This is, in part, due to the strong interest in the midfielder from several clubs — in theory, making a deal more straightforward and boosting Douglas Luiz as an asset — but also those who hold admiration, such as Juventus , are interested in doing cross-player transactions.
Exchange deals are forming a notable part of Villa’s thinking this transfer window. Ordinarily, Douglas Luiz’s outright value would exceed what Juventus can afford to pay, so at least one player — U.S. midfielder Weston McKennie has featured in talks — plus cash would be preferable.
This way, the player leaving can be booked onto the club’s accounts, while the cost of the player signing can be amortised (spread) over the length of their contract, in turn lowering figures in the next set of accounts. In this instance, time is of the essence in ensuring a sale materialises before June 30, meaning it can register in the next set of accounts. A similar notion has been attributed to Villa’s interest in Conor Gallagher , with Chelsea , the selling club, remaining interested in Villa forward Jhon Duran .
The theme of searching for creative and complex solutions to ease the threat of PSR began last summer, when academy players were used as assets. Leading into pre-season, the original thinking had been for premium young talent to form the club’s DNA for years to come.
The shift in stance started with Aaron Ramsey . The 21-year-old was regarded as one of the leading ‘project players’ and Villa, initially, were not interested in selling.
This gradually changed as funds needed to be raised. Burnley were interested and an agreement was struck at £14m, with Ramsey signing a five-year contract. Villa wanted more, but structured a highly-complex deal that ensured they retained a buy-back clause and a level of power. The move was delayed due to the level of detail Villa had inserted into the contract, taking the Premier League a fortnight to ratify the move.
From a developmental perspective, figures on the football side approved the concept, believing any team signing Ramsey would have a greater desire to improve him as a player because he would be theirs permanently, as opposed to one year on loan.
Sawiris, however, has insisted financial regulations incentivise the sales of homegrown talent and punish a club’s commitment to their young players. Selling an academy player — valued at zero in the books because of accounting rules — allows Villa to receive pure bookable profit, providing PSR scope. “This obvious flaw is to the detriment of the fans,” said Sawiris to the Financial Times.
Ramsey set the template for Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene , who later joined Sheffield United and Hull City respectively. Both transactions were considerably more straightforward than Ramsey’s as Villa knew the Premier League were on board with the structure of the deals.
Villa insisted on Archer’s sale rather than another loan, in contrast to their perception a year earlier when he signed a five-year contract. The forward was sold for £18.5m, with Villa registering the fee on the spreadsheets. However, as part of the agreement, Archer would return if Sheffield United were relegated.
Having finished bottom and Archer scoring four league goals — one against Villa — Emery will welcome the 22-year-old back for pre-season. Financially, Villa will receive significantly less than the original £18.5m figure. Plainly, Archer’s move turned out to be the equivalent of a loan fee in the single-digit millions.
Philogene’s departure was the most surprising, given his impressive pre-season and Emery hoping to keep the winger in the squad. But after Philogene spoke of his desire for regular football, having spent two seasons on loan in the Championship, it was agreed that a move elsewhere — providing it suited Villa’s conditions — was preferable. A £5m deal was finalised, with the 22-year-old signing a four-year contract.
Villa accepted they could track his progress elsewhere but included a first option and a buy-back clause. It can be revealed that Villa have a matching clause for Philogene, meaning they have to be notified of any offer Hull receive this summer. At this stage, early interest has been shown from the Premier League and clubs abroad.
This time, decisions will be made on young talents Kaine Kesler-Hayden , Tim Iroegbunam and Archer, who will try and be moved on. Each is at a stage in their career where playing regularly is paramount.
While they serve as examples of supporting the battle against PSR, the complexities of those deals add to Villa’s workload in selling players and being creative.

Douglas Ross to resign as leader of Scottish Conservatives after general election
Mr Ross's announcement comes following criticism over the deselection of David Duguid as a general election candidate as well as reports he used Westminster expenses to travel in his role as a football linesman.

Douglas Ross has announced he is stepping down as leader of the Scottish Conservatives after the 4 July election.
It comes following criticism over the deselection of David Duguid as a general election candidate as well as reports Mr Ross used Westminster expenses to travel in his role as a football linesman.
Mr Ross intends to continue his general election campaign as he seeks to win the Aberdeenshire North and Moray East seat as an MP.
In a statement released on Monday, he announced he will also resign as an MSP if re-elected to Westminster.
Mr Ross said: "I have served as MP, MSP and leader for over three years now and believed I could continue to do so if re-elected to Westminster, but on reflection, that is not feasible.
"I am committed to fighting and winning the Aberdeenshire North and Moray East constituency. Should I be given the honour to represent the people and communities of this new seat, they should know being their MP would receive my complete focus and attention.
"I will therefore stand down as leader following the election on July 4, once a successor is elected. Should I win the seat, I will also stand down as an MSP to make way for another Scottish Conservative representative in Holyrood.

Mr Ross has made the announcement in the wake of a row over his decision to stand in the Aberdeen North and Moray East constituency .
Former Tory UK government minister Mr Duguid had wanted to contest the seat, but he is currently unwell in hospital which led to the party's management board deselecting him as a candidate.
Travel expenses row
Mr Ross's resignation also comes amid reports by the Sunday Mail that concerns had been raised over 28 parliamentary travel claims which may have been combined with his work as a football linesman.
Under UK parliamentary rules, MPs can only claim travel from their home airport - which was either Inverness or Aberdeen when Mr Ross was MP for Moray.
They can also claim for "diverted" journeys but must supply detailed notes on the diversion.
The newspaper reported that Mr Ross's aides raised the alarm in November 2021 over expense claims which included a £58 parking fee at Inverness Airport in July 2018 while parliament was in recess.
It also stated a £43 rail travel from Heathrow to central London was claimed the day after Mr Ross was a linesman in a match in Iceland.
Claims also include that he expensed a flight from London to Glasgow and £109 parking.
On 1 November 2020 it is alleged he claimed £48.99 for parking the day he refereed a Celtic game.
Mr Ross said it was "not possible" to go from London to a football game as he would not have had his referee kit with him.
Mr Ross stressed he has only ever claimed expenses related to his role as an MP and the costs of getting to and from Westminster.
He said the expenses claims were approved by the independent parliamentary body IPSA and he would have "no issue with them being scrutinised again".
Matheson critic
Mr Ross was extremely critical of Michael Matheson after the former SNP health minister was found to have breached the code of conduct in regards to his £11,000 iPad data roaming bill.
Mr Ross called for Mr Matheson, who has been suspended , to resign as Falkirk West MSP.
'He's treated David Duguid absolutely abominably'
In the wake of concerns raised over Mr Ross' own expenses, First Minister John Swinney said he did not want to "jump to conclusions" but stated the "story raises very significant and serious issues of the potential misuse of public funds".
Following Mr Ross's announcement, Mr Swinney said he was "not surprised".
Speaking to Sky News while visiting Pollok United's after-school activity club in Glasgow, Mr Swinney said: "His position was beyond credibility. He's treated David Duguid absolutely abominably.
"David is ill. He's a respected member of parliament. Everybody accepts the fact that he's not well and he was selected by his local association to stand.
"But that's not good enough for Douglas Ross. David Duguid has been ousted from standing for parliament and replaced by none other than Douglas Ross.
"I think it's just an absolutely appalling way to behave towards a colleague."
Mr Ross has in the past been jokingly referred to as "three-jobs Ross" due to balancing his roles as an MP, MSP and football linesman.
'Picking and choosing'
In response to Mr Ross's pledge to step down as an MSP if he is re-elected to Westminster, Mr Swinney said: "Well, it is the right thing to do because I think his position is beyond credibility.
"But what Douglas Ross is also saying is that he'll pick and choose which parliament that he's in.
"That if he is successful in getting elected to the Westminster parliament, he'll go there and stand down for the Scottish parliament.
"But if he's unsuccessful in getting to Westminster, he'll hang around in the Scottish parliament despite the fact that he's now lost the confidence clearly of his colleagues and has resigned as the leader of the Conservative Party in Scotland."
Mr Swinney said "picking and choosing" parliamentary representation "trivialises it".
He added: "Representing our community in parliament is a deadly serious responsibility. Not one that you just pick and choose about.
"So, I think it's a further illustration of Douglas Ross looking after his own personal self-interest. And that's not what you should do in politics - you should look after the common good in politics."
'It's a mess entirely of his own making'
The SNP leader denied falling into the trap of the "mudslinging of politics".
He added: "I'm just acknowledging the fact that Douglas Ross has got himself into an absolute mess of his own making.
"I've not contributed anything to this. It's a mess entirely of his own making.
"And I think any decent, rational individual could have worked out that this is how this would have ended."
Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie wished Mr Ross the "best of luck", but previously called for an "urgent explanation" over the expenses concerns.
She said: "These dodgy claims need an urgent explanation and Douglas Ross's weak excuses don't provide much reassurance.
"After his response to Michael Matheson's iPad scandal, it would be the height of hypocrisy if Douglas Ross has also been attempting to rip off taxpayers."

'Rat deserting a sinking ship'
Former first minister and Alba Party leader Alex Salmond said Mr Ross is "totally devoid of honour".
He added: "This is the first case of a rat deserting a sinking ship whilst simultaneously trying to clamber aboard a gravy train.
"Douglas Ross requires to resign as candidate for Aberdeenshire North and Moray East where he stabbed David Duguid in the back."

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he respected Mr Ross' decision, adding that he had a record to be "proud of" as Scottish Tory leader.
Mr Sunak said: "You can read Douglas's statement about his reasons, and I respect his decision.
"It's been a pleasure to work with him over the time that I've been prime minister. He has been a steadfast champion of the union.
"He and I have worked together on two freeports for Scotland, attracting jobs and investment, standing up to the SNP's misguided gender recognition reforms and also being unashamedly champions of Scotland's North Sea energy industry, the only party to have consistently done that.
"So, I think that's a track record that Douglas can be proud of, and I've enjoyed working with him, but I respect his decision."

Samara has lit up Russia’s Volga region since Soviet times. Formerly a closed city, Samara was strategic to wartime and space aspirations. Discover the grand plans held for this port city during Soviet times and more, with these fascinating facts about Samara.
Stalin’s secret bunker is buried 37 metres below samara.
Built in 1942, it took almost 50 years for locals to discover Stalin’s hidden underground bunker. The secret hideout is 37 metres below ground, around the depth of a 12-story building. It can hold up to 115 people for up to five days before air supplies run out.
Samara used to be called ‘Kuibyshev’
When the Bolsheviks entered the city in 1918, it marked the start of the city’s Sovietisation. During the Soviet era, the city was renamed after Valerian Kuibyshev, a Bolshevik politician who went on to lead the local Soviet party. The town’s main square retains the name to commemorate this particular epoch of Samara ‘s history.
Pirates used to hide in the Zhiguli Mountains
A day trip out of Samara, the Zhiguli Mountains offer the perfect opportunity to explore the region’s natural beauty. The mountain range used to hide pirates back in the day. Around the ‘Samara Bend’, the naturally occurring hairpin bend just out of the city created a perfect opportunity for pirates to ambush cargo ships and then flee into the cavernous expanse of the mountains.
There’s an asteroid named after Samara
Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst was a prolific asteroid spotter, and in his lifetime discovered over 3,000 minor planets. In October 1996, he discovered and named the asteroid 26922 Samara after the Russian city and river.
There is a real rocket as a statue
Outside the Samara Space Museum, a real-life Vostok rocket has been erected to commemorate Samara’s contribution to the Soviet space race. A closed city during Soviet times, space rockets, including Vostoks, were manufactured here. It is the rocket model that catapulted Yuri Gagarin into space, heralding the Soviets as space pioneers.
Samara is home to the iconic Soviet beer brand, Zhigulevskoye
The Zhiguli Brewery was founded in 1881 and went on to produce the iconic beer of Soviet times, Zhigulevskoye . The brewery had already gained a reputation for producing quality beers before it was seized by the Bolsheviks in 1918. Through the tumultuous Soviet era, the brewery survived food shortages and industrial collectivisation and still produces Zhigulevskoye to this day.

One of the largest squares in the world is found in Samara
At 174,000 square meters, Kuibyshev Square is bigger than London’s Trafalgar Square and Moscow’s Red Square and just under half the size of Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. The Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is located within the square. Kuibyshev Square is the FIFA World Cup 2018 Fan Fest Zone for Samara.
In WWII, a lot of VIPs from Moscow were moved to Samara, including its soviet football team
During the Second World War, Samara was earmarked to be a new industrial hub. Factories in western Russia were at risk of being seized by the Germans and so the Soviet regime sought to push its important industries into the safer strongholds of cities like Samara. Given its easterly location, Samara, or Kuibyshev as it was called then, would have become the Soviet capital if the Germans had captured Moscow. In addition to moving industries, a number of important politicians, artists and athletes were moved across, including Moscow’s footballers. In 1942, they formed Samara’s local team, Krylya Sovetov FC, otherwise known as ‘Wings of the Soviets’. They are now play in the country’s second division, the Russia Football National League.

Samara city, Russia
The capital city of Samara oblast .

History of Samara
Foundation of samara.
For the first time, the name of the Samara River was mentioned in the notes of the secretary of the Arab embassy and traveler Ahmed ibn Fadlan as “Samur” in 921. In 1586, by the decree of Tsar Feodor I Ioannovich, the fortress named “Samarskiy gorodok” (literally “the town of Samara”) was founded on the bank of the Samara River near its confluence with the Volga.
Its main purpose was to control the vast territory of the middle reaches of the Volga and the mouth of the Samara, to protect Russia from the raids of nomads, and to provide a waterway from Kazan to Astrakhan.
During the 17th century, the fortress grew and continued to fortify. In 1688, it was renamed and became the town of Samara. After the devastating fires of 1700 and 1703, a new (so-called “earthen”) fortress was built in Samara in 1704-1706. In the 1740s, Samara became the center of the Orenburg expedition, which founded the towns of Orenburg and Stavropol-on-Volga (present-day Tolyatti).
In 1780, the coat of arms of Samara was approved with the following description: “A wild white goat standing on the grass in a blue field”. The image of the coat of arms exactly repeated the banner of the Samara regiment from the collection of banners of the regiments of the Russian Empire (1729-1730). In 1782, the first site plan for the town’s development was approved.
More Historical Facts…
Samara in the 19th - the first half of the 20th centuries
In 1850, Emperor Nicholas I issued a decree on the creation of the Samara Governorate with the center in Samara. The population of the town was about 15 thousand people. By the end of the 19th century, it increased to 90 thousand people. By 1916, about 150 thousand people lived in Samara.
During this period, the Samara Governorate ranked first in the Russian Empire in terms of the amount of harvested wheat. In 1874, the construction of the Orenburg Railway began. In 1877, it passed through Samara. The Samara pier was one of the best on the Volga River. In 1915, the first electric tram started operating.
In 1928, Samara became the center of Middle Volga Oblast. In 1929, it was transformed into Middle Volga Krai. In 1935, the region was renamed Kuybyshev Krai. In December 1936, after secession from the region of the Mordovian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, it was transformed into Kuybyshev Oblast. On January 27, 1935, Samara was renamed Kuybyshev, in honor of the Soviet statesman and party leader V.V. Kuybyshev (1888-1935).
In July-October 1941, during the Second World War, a number of enterprises from the western regions of the USSR and their personnel with their families were evacuated to this city, as well as The Council of People’s Commissars of the Soviet Union (the highest collegial body of executive and administrative authority), The Supreme Soviet of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (the most authoritative legislative body), diplomatic missions, large cultural institutions (for example, the Bolshoi Theater, Mosfilm). This city became, in fact, the second capital of the USSR after Moscow.
A special underground bunker-residence was built for Stalin, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief. However, the Headquarters of the Supreme High Command, the State Defense Committee (the highest authority in the country), and the General Staff of the Red Army remained in Moscow. On March 5, 1942, Shostakovich’s Seventh Leningrad Symphony was completed and performed for the first time in Kuybyshev.
From 1940 to 1945, the level of industrial production in the city increased 5.5 times. The population grew from 400 to 600 thousand people. During the war years, about 28 thousand Il-2 and Il-10 attack aircraft were produced at its factories - about 80% of their total number.
Samara in the second half of the 20th century and beyond
After the Second World War, Kuybyshev became one of the largest industrial and cultural centers in the USSR. The city economy was based on the aviation, space, machine-building, metallurgical, electrical, cable, oil refining, and light industries. From 1960 to 1991, because of the large number of military enterprises, Kuibyshev was a city closed to foreigners.
All Soviet and Russian cosmonauts were launched into space on R-7 launch vehicles produced by the Samara enterprise “TsSKB-Progress” (JSC “Space Rocket Centre “Progress”). This also applies to the first cosmonaut of the planet Yuri Gagarin. After landing in the area of the city of Engels, he was taken to Kuybyshev for rest. From here he reported by phone to the head of state N.S. Khrushchev on the successful completion of the first manned space flight in the history of mankind.
In addition to the development of industry, there were significant changes in the socio-economic development of the city. On September 14, 1967, the millionth resident was born in Kuybyshev. In 1968, the TU-154 aircraft began to be mass-produced in Samara. In 1987, the city reached its maximum population of 1,280,000 people.
On January 25, 1991, the historical name Samara was returned to the city. In the 1990s, after the collapse of the USSR, the problem of transforming military enterprises for the production of civilian products arose. A lot of large enterprises went bankrupt. Small-scale production of goods appeared in their place, as well as shopping centers and various cultural institutions (clubs, movie theaters, bars, restaurants, etc.). The loss of jobs, the slowdown in economic growth had a negative impact on the demographic situation and the state of the city’s infrastructure.
In the 2000s, the construction segment was actively developing in Samara. At the same time, there was no general strategy for building the city, which eventually led to a deterioration in the general architectural style of the city and the quality of the infrastructure. In 2018, six matches of the FIFA World Cup were held in Samara.

Samara - Features
Samara is located on the left bank of the Volga River (Saratov Reservoir) opposite the Samara bend, at the confluence of the Samara (hence the city’s name) and Sok rivers. The City Day of Samara is celebrated on the second weekend of September.
The climate is moderately continental. Summers are hot and rather humid. Winters are moderately frosty, snowy and long. The average temperature in July is plus 23.5 degrees Celsius, in January - minus 9.9 degrees Celsius.
Samara is a major center for mechanical engineering and metalworking, food, as well as space and aviation industries. It is one of the main scientific centers of Russia in the space and aviation fields.
The city is one of the largest transport hubs in Russia, through which the shortest routes from Central and Western Europe to Siberia, Central Asia, and Kazakhstan run. The Kurumoch International Airport located 42 km from Samara offers regular flights to Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhnevartovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Novy Urengoy, Omsk, Perm, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Surgut, Ufa, Dubai, Istanbul, and other cities.
From the pier of the Samara river station, you can go on boat trips along the Volga, cruises to cities located along the river - Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Volgograd, Tolyatti. Passenger transportation in the city is carried out by buses, minibuses, trams, trolleybuses, and the subway.
The architectural heritage of Samara that has survived to this day is one of the richest in Russia. During a walking tour of the historical center of Samara, you can see buildings of the 19th - early 20th centuries preserving the atmosphere of an old merchant city. Samara has one of the longest river embankments in Russia (about 5 km) and the tallest railway station building in Europe (101 meters) with an observation deck (Komsomolskaya Square, 1).
In Samara, the most popular urban legends are associated with underground objects and tunnels through which you can allegedly go under the Volga River and get out on its other bank or on the islands. Rumors about the presence of a network of underground communications are caused by the presence of a large cave within the city limits (The Brothers Greve Cave), as well as a large number of underground structures, such as Stalin’s Bunker, Beria’s Bunker, and the former Army Headquarters bunker.
Main Attractions of Samara
Samara Embankment - one of the most beautiful places in Samara and one of the best embankments in Russia. It stretches along the bank of the Volga for more than 4 km and descends to the river in terraces. A lot of tourists, having arrived in the city, immediately go to the embankment to see the Volga. Residents of Samara also love to come here, breathe clean air and enjoy the picturesque panorama of the great Russian river.
From the nearby pier, ships go on river cruises along the Volga. A river trip is a great opportunity to admire Samara and a good alternative to a bus tour of the city on a hot summer day. City holidays are often held on the embankment.
The embankment of Samara harmoniously combines the advantages of the beach and promenade with places for active recreation and sports. There are cafes and restaurants, benches and fountains, boat and bicycle rentals, paths for cyclists and roller skaters.
There are a lot of interesting art objects on this embankment including a monument to a heating radiator, the sculptural composition “The Barge Haulers on the Volga” and a sculpture of Comrade Sukhov from the famous Soviet movie “White Sun of the Desert”, who was a native of a village near Samara.

Actually, the museum is a pedestal on which the rocket stands. Together with the spacecraft, its height reaches 68 m. The exposition is divided into two parts. The first includes space instruments and spacecraft models. The second part is devoted not so much to technology as to people in space, their way of life and everyday activities. Lenin Avenue, 21.
Stalin’s Bunker - one of the alternative locations of the headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the USSR I.V. Stalin, built in Samara at a depth of 37 meters in 1942. Until 1990, it was a classified object. Today, a museum dedicated to the Second World War is open in the bunker.
The object is located under the building of the Academy of Culture and Art, which previously housed the Kuibyshev Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. For the construction of the bunker, the design of the metro station “Aeroport” in Moscow was copied. Frunze Street, 167.
