Stranger Things Cast Parents Jointly Negotiated Pay Raises

Here's how much the cast of 'summer house' makes, 'save the cheerleader, count the millions': the heroes cast, ranked by net worth, quick links, mick jagger, robert de niro, justin bieber, george clooney, simon cowell, harry styles, sylvester stallone, robert downey jr..

When a woman puts on a pair of heels, she feels confident, foxy, and ready to strut, and it is normalized in our world. But, what if a man wants to give himself a little bit of height and wants to stand taller next to his leading lady, should it be construed as abnormal?

Heels not only help in giving height and accentuating a woman's curves, heels also make for a steadier posture, so why should these male celebrities not be able to enjoy an extra inch or two as well?

Currently, some of the male celebrities that have been spotted with a "heel" have been Justin Bieber , Kanye West , and Harry Styles , but this trend goes way back to the black-and-white movies of the 1920s. However, one may be surprised at the male Hollywood icons that often wore "heels" on movie sets and to red carpet events, but that were usually somehow camouflaged — keeping in mind that gender norms were not the same back then.

One thing to make clear, though, is that these shoes male stars are wearing nowadays are not heels, as many fashion and media outlets have referred them to, but are simply boots with an extra inch or two, like women wear (a.k.a booties). If women like to have an extra spring in their step, men are entitled also. And there is nothing wrong with elevator shoes and shoe lifts either, since these stars need to have great stature and poise. Here is a list of celebrity fellas who are not afraid to put their stacked foot forward.

Kanye West, a celebrity who many have hatred toward because of his arrogance, apparently thinks he too needs to stand taller in life. Who knew he needed to take part in the "extra inch" trend?

In terms of style, West has definitely come a long way, often donning Louis Vuitton next to his fashion mogul wife, Kim Kardashian . West was first spotted wearing heels in 2015, and has kept the trend going since, spotted standing next to Mrs. West on many occasions with boots with stacks. We all know that West always demands and wants attention and wearing heeled boots gives him that each time. From velvet booties to suede heeled boots, the rapper has gained both haters and admirers with this trend.

When it comes to heels, who could rock them more than the Rolling Stone legend himself,  Mick Jagger . A lead singer with plenty of soul clearly thought that he needed a little more "sole" on his feet also. Let us not forget that the singer came from eras like the '70s and '80s, where styles and clothing items were interchangeable between genders. Jagger often wears "heels" to dinner with his leggy girlfriend L'Wren Scott, to give himself that little boost. It is not heels the veteran rocker sports, but shoes with an extra all-around platform that are the trending shoe for women nowadays. Maybe we should thank Jagger for that one? The star is not a short man, either, standing at 5'10." So he could do it, than why not a short fella?

When it comes to the Mission Impossible actor, one mission Tom Cruise has accomplished is appearing much taller than he actually is most of the time in the public eye. The reason there was always speculation around Cruise's height was because he never appeared to be the same height, especially when standing next to women like Cameron Diaz. Heel lifts or insoles are what Cruise and a few other male celebrities have used to elevate themselves. A man of average height, Cruise uses these very common shoe accessories for interviews and red-carpet appearances. And the best part about the extra inch fad, is that with Cruise, you cannot tell if he is wearing them or not since they are secretly tucked in the shoe.

There is a lot of things we do not see in the final cut of films, like the actual shoes that are on Robert De Niro 's feet. They say that the cameras add weight on television, but they definitely do not add height, so shorter male actors sometimes find it difficult to feel serious and in their role without that extra boost of confidence. For Robert De Niro, a Hollywood actor known for his iconic roles in The Godfather and Goodfellas, his shortness has always caused him a problem on set as many of the male actors tower over him, and he is often casted in roles of "important" men. Though not the shortest actor, he has been spotted often wearing ridiculous platforms while filming, and not just your ordinary stacked boots.

Not many men are big fans of the Biebs anyways, so starting a new trend most men will not sport will not gain him any more men followers. The singer who has grown in front of our very eyes, is not shy to add a few extra inches to him — he strives to be larger than life in all ways.

The look the singer sported was unalike the Biebs we have been used to seeing with baggy t-shirts and loose pants; he was spotted wearing a slim and skin-tight white t-shirt, with a pair of distressed denim and a pair of heeled booties one can find in just about any woman's closet. Bieber ditched his sneakers and baggy jean look for a more mature look, and he did 'slay' the look, we must give it to him. He rocked the look, and since then, has not hesitated to slap on his heeled booties.

We assume many of these male celebrities need a rise on their feet to keep rising in fame. In Hollywood, there has been a long-time trend known as "elevator shoes," that plagued the Hollywood world since the 20s. This trend, as mentioned before that was used by Tom Cruise, also influenced the likes of George Clooney . Standing at 5'11”, Clooney is no short man, but in his closet, one will find a couple of leather elevator shoes from the brand Taller, that he has been photographed sporting on many occasions. For whatever reason it may be, most actors like Clooney do not want the public to know they are wearing the shoes but sport them to seem more imposing as a Hollywood heavyweight. The correlation between height and authority is big for actors like Clooney.

Simon Cowell , the man always quick to judge others should not talk too fast, we now know his secret, he wears bootie heels and shoe lifts, too. Cowell, who is usually perfectly groomed, has often tried to hide his boost in height, along with the booster seat on his judging chair; this probably the reason why Mr. Cowell has always allowed himself to portray such arrogance. A man of this calibre, wants a tall frame and wants to always appear confident, even if that means spending thousands of dollars on leather heeled booties that give a 3-inch boost to the frame. Cowell's trick to fool us all, is that he often sports trousers that are specifically tailored to go over the heels so that they are rarely seen.

Men throughout history, like some of the kings, have been known to seek a little height boost, so why not continue this trend and make it happen?  Harry Styles is the number one supporter of this trend at the moment. Styles has been rocking man heels in almost all his recent public appearances; from his $1,000 glittery ones on Saturday Night Live, to his gold pair, and the classic black pair with any extravagant suit, he is digging the heels. Styles, who claims rock star status, follows his rock star predecessors in following the man heels trend; as mentioned, the heels are not a new trend and many rock legends, like Prince, donned them in the 1980s. He even wears heeled Gucci loafers — men, take notes.

There is a famous shoemaker from Italy named Pasquale Di Fabrizio, that has helped many stars stand tall and firm. This man, has helped the star and legend we all know as Rocky, Sylvester Stallone gain height. Actors like Stallone, with such an extensive career and critical movie roles, discreetly reached out to the Italian footwear designer who was able to provide concealed lifts instead of visible heels. Stallone is a man who throughout his career in the movies, and in real-life, has always projected strength, confidence and toughness, and so the heel lifts have been crucial to him for many reasons; to maintain that image and appear the same height when meeting people. In the face of adversaries, Stallone had to employ insoles in his shoes during filming; it is the "eye of the tiger."

When one thinks of platform shoes and rock stars from the 1980s, the band KISS comes to mind as it is part of their on stage persona, but rock stars without the theatrical appearance and costumes, like Bono also sport platforms — visible ones. The frontman that many adore and idolize for his talent, and philanthropic views, has a short man complex that many do not know about. The lead singer stands at 5'6," and always tries to gain a few inches before he hits the stage, the red carpet, or charity events, and he does that by using shoe lifts like the other stars on this list. His height has always been a point that people have discussed as many contend he is between 5’5” and 5’7.” but it does not really matter, he is Bono.

Stacked heels and shoe lifts are nothing new in Hollywood, and they are socially acceptable amongst the men, though some try and hide their "rise." When standing next to a woman as confident as Angelina Jolie , Brad Pitt needs to stand just as tall. Elevator shoes, or shoe lifts, are popular both on and off set, and Pitt is one of the male celebs that is not shy to take advantage of this tremendous asset; and if Pitt is sporting them, then any man has the permission to. Though Pitt is just slightly off the 6-foot mark, he wears lifts in his shoes on set to gain some height over his co-stars that are only slightly taller, like Christian Bale . The taller a man appears, the better visually — it just might be the reason why Jolie fell for him.

Canadian rapper Drake , is a giant on the hip-hop scene, but is he that much of a giant in person? In a dog-eat-dog world, that is the rapper world, you always have to stand tall compared to your competition, and Drake does that by sporting concealed shoe lifts. In the world of hip hop, image is everything, and though Drake got his debut independently, which is huge, he needs to constantly match his image to his success. And because Drake always wants great "views," he needs to use shoe lifts discreetly placed in his shoes to gain height, project the right image, and get a good view of the Raptors. He has also been photographed with construction style boots, which also help him gain the 2 extra inches to his 6-foot frame.

What is Zac Efron 's secret to making all women fall head over heels (pun intended) in love with him? Shoe lifts. Standing at 5'8," Efron is just under the average height of male American celebrities of 5’10,” and so to stand out in comparison to the other Hollywood hunks, he uses shoe lifts to give himself the edge over them. Most women do not realize his actual height until he is doing interviews, where he appears shorter than the other men around him. However, with the perfect dressing tricks, like fitted trousers that makes the "shorter" actor seem more agile, and the elevator shoes, he is able to boost his frame to 5'10." Those virtually undetected heels do you well, Efron.

Everyone’s new favorite comedian, Kevin Hart , often uses his height as a weapon when getting on stage or on set to make people laugh. Certainly not embarrassed of his height as he often makes jokes about it, Hart, like any other man in Hollywood needs to stand a little taller to break the barrier that the shorter male actors tend to face. It is not known if he wears the elevator shoes or shoe inserts, but he often rocks the platform sneakers trend when out and about, sticking true to his more casual style. We could always count on Hart to crack hysterical jokes, the same way that he could count on his sneakers to give him that little boost — especially when next to his wife who towers over him.

Robert Downey Jr. is a Hollywood actor who has always appeared chill and down to Earth, which is probably why he does not mind exposing the fact that he wears extra inches. However, that means that we cannot ignore the fact that height is an issue for the Iron Man actor and that it does bother him. The man straight up wears visible wedges whether he be on set or on the streets, and even on the red carpet, because he just does not care what anyone thinks. Downey did fool us for years though. While we all thought he was slaying the sneaker look, showing the world that he does not care to walk on eggshells by not dressing up with the proper attire to events, it was because all his sneakers had lifts in them. Little did we know he was hiding a secret in his shoes.

Although it wasn’t made as a propaganda piece, Top Gun turned out to be a fiercely effective recruitment tool for the U.S. Navy. They saw a 500% increase in applicants for their aviation program after the movie became a box office smash. The Navy even set up recruitment stalls outside movie theaters that were playing Top Gun . And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. So, here are 10 Behind-The-Scenes Facts About Top Gun .

Val Kilmer Originally Didn’t Want To Be In The Movie

Val Kilmer initially didn’t want to appear in Top Gun . He was forced to play the role of Iceman due to contractual obligation, but he didn’t want the part.

Despite this, he had a lot of fun on the set. He improvised the moment when Iceman coughs, “Bullsh*t,” after Maverick explains that he inverted his plane, so everyone’s reactions to it are authentic. Iceman has become one of Kilmer’s most famous roles in the years since Top Gun hit theaters.

Tom Cruise Had Never Ridden A Motorcycle Before Filming Top Gun

One of Maverick’s defining characteristics is that he rides a motorcycle — a Kawasaki Ninja 900/GPz900R, to be exact, which was the fastest production motorcycle in the world at the time — but before shooting Top Gun , Tom Cruise had never ridden a motorcycle before.

The actor was eager to learn, so he went to House of Motorcycles in El Cajon, California, to be taught in the art of riding a motorcycle. He was given a crash course in the parking lot and got the hang of it in no time.

The Movie Is Dedicated To A Stunt Pilot Who Died During Production

Top Gun is dedicated to Art Scholl, a stunt pilot who died during filming at the age of 54. His Pitts S-2 camera plane went into a flat spin and didn’t recover before it crashed into the Pacific Ocean.

The spin was intentional in order to capture a shot for the movie, but it somehow spun out of control. The specific cause of the incident has never been pinpointed, and neither the plane nor Scholl’s body were ever found.

Ally Sheedy Turned Down The Role Of Charlie Blackwood

The role of Charlie Blackwood was offered to Ally Sheedy before it went to Kelly McGillis. Sheedy turned it down because she didn’t think that any moviegoers would be interested in seeing a movie about fighter pilots.

She would later admit that she regrets her decision because Top Gun became a huge hit. As a member of the so-called “Brat Pack,” Sheedy was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood in the ‘80s , appearing in such hits as The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire .

Every Actor Besides Anthony Edwards Threw Up In The Fighter Jets

A lot of the actors who were cast as F-14 crew members were given backseat rides in actual F-14 to get used to the conditions of the aircraft. In fact, some of the F-14 scenes that appear in the movie were shot in a real F-14 in the air.

But the actors had a tough time getting accustomed to being onboard one. Anthony Edwards is the only actor in the whole cast who didn’t throw up while they were up in the fighter jets. Tom Cruise took three rides in the F-14. He vomited on the first one, but made it through the second and third rides.

Tom Cruise Had To Wear Lifts In His Scenes With Kelly McGillis

Kelly McGillis is 5’10” and Tom Cruise is three inches shorter at 5’7," and this created serious problems for the crew, because the filmmakers wanted it to look like the two were the same height. Cruise had to wear lifts in his shoes in all of his scenes with McGillis.

In the final scene, as Maverick and Charlie approach each other in a bar, the production team had to dig out a trench in the floor for McGillis to stand in. This gave the impression that they were the same height.

The Pentagon Demanded Script Approval

When Top Gun was picked up by a major Hollywood studio, the Pentagon demanded the chance to approve the script before shooting. They wanted to make sure that the U.S. Navy was being depicted in a positive light.

A couple of scenes were excised because they made it look like the Navy is negligent or often allows its pilots to die, which was an image that the government understandably wanted to avoid.

Kenny Loggins Wasn’t The First Choice To Record The Theme Song

Top Gun ’s theme song “Danger Zone” became a huge hit for Kenny Loggins. It’s one of the best-known movie themes of the ‘80s. However, Loggins was not the producers’ first choice to record the song. The job was offered to Toto and REO Speedwagon before it was offered to Loggins.

This isn’t the only ‘80s movie theme song that Loggins was the last choice for. The makers of Caddyshack wanted Pink Floyd to perform their theme before settling for Loggins .

Goose’s Death Was Originally Very Different

In the original version of Goose’s death scene, he was killed in the flaming wreckage of an aircraft carrier. However, the Navy objected to this, and it was changed to be a training accident as it appears in the film.

There was also initially supposed to be a scene in which Maverick visited Goose’s grave, and it was even shot, but it has never been released, even as a deleted scene.

Tom Hanks And Michael J. Fox Turned Down The Role Of Maverick

Although the role of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is now synonymous with Tom Cruise, it was offered to a bunch of other actors, who all turned it down. Tom Hanks, Michael J. Fox, Sean Penn, Matthew Broderick, Nicolas Cage, Emilio Estevez, Patrick Swayze, John Cusack, and Scott Baio were all offered the role and rejected it.

Matthew Modine also turned down the part because he didn’t agree with the film’s politics. Charlie Sheen was considered for the role, but was deemed too young. Sheen would go on to star in Hot Shots! , a 1991 spoof of Top Gun .

shunvogue

One of the persistent rumors surrounding Tom Cruise's height is that he wore lifts in the 1986 movie Top Gun. Lifts are shoe inserts that can make a person appear taller, and they are commonly used by celebrities to enhance their stature. In the case of Tom Cruise, who is reported to be around 5'7" (170 cm) tall, the rumor suggests that he wore lifts to appear taller on screen.

While it is difficult to provide concrete evidence on whether Tom Cruise wore lifts in Top Gun, there are certain factors that can be considered to shed light on the topic. Firstly, it is important to note that height exaggeration is a common practice in the film industry. Actors often wear lifts or other footwear to appear taller, especially when they are playing roles that require a strong, confident presence. Therefore, the idea of Tom Cruise wearing lifts in Top Gun is not far-fetched.

Secondly, Tom Cruise's height has been a subject of speculation for many years. Some reports suggest that he has utilized lifts in various other movies, such as A Few Good Men and Mission: Impossible. These reports, although not definitive proof, hint at a pattern of using lifts to enhance his height on screen. It is not uncommon for actors to employ such tactics, as height can play a significant role in the perception of a character's presence and authority.

Furthermore, there have been instances where Tom Cruise's height appears to fluctuate in different scenes of the same movie. In Top Gun, there are scenes where Tom Cruise appears to be of average height, while in others, he seems noticeably taller. While this may be attributed to camera angles and other cinematic techniques, it also adds fuel to the speculation that he wore lifts in certain scenes.

However, it is important to approach these claims with caution. Without definitive proof or a statement from Tom Cruise himself, it is challenging to ascertain whether he wore lifts in Top Gun or any other movie. It is also worth noting that Tom Cruise's height is not something that significantly impacts his success as an actor. He is widely regarded as one of the most talented and charismatic actors in Hollywood, regardless of his height.

In conclusion, while there is no concrete evidence to suggest that Tom Cruise wore lifts in the movie Top Gun, the rumors and speculation surrounding his height are not unfounded. Height exaggeration is a common practice in the film industry, and there have been reports of Tom Cruise using lifts in other movies. However, without definitive proof or a statement from the actor himself, it is difficult to confirm these claims. Ultimately, Tom Cruise's talent and charisma as an actor overshadow any discussions about his height.

Tom Cruise is undoubtedly one of Hollywood's biggest stars, known for his acting skills and his iconic roles in movies such as Top Gun. However, there have been some rumors circulating about his height and whether it noticeably changed throughout the filming of Top Gun. In order to address these speculations, we will take a scientific and logical approach to investigate this topic.

Firstly, it's important to establish the baseline height of Tom Cruise. According to various sources, Tom Cruise stands at around 5 feet 7 inches tall. This height is relatively average for a man in the United States and is not considered particularly short. It is important to keep this in mind as we explore further.

During the filming of Top Gun, which took place in the mid-1980s, Tom Cruise went through rigorous physical training to prepare for his role as Navy pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell. This included intense workout regimens and flight training sessions. It is worth noting here that significant changes in height cannot occur through exercise or training alone. The skeletal structure of an individual cannot be altered or elongated through physical activity.

Another aspect to consider is the use of camera angles and visual tricks in filmmaking. Filmmakers often employ various techniques to create illusions and enhance the visual experience for the audience. Camera angles, lighting, and even shoe lifts are commonly used to manipulate a character's appearance on screen. It is possible that some of these techniques were utilized during the filming of Top Gun to enhance Tom Cruise's presence or create the illusion of him appearing taller.

Furthermore, it is essential to understand that height is not a fixed characteristic and can fluctuate throughout the day. Factors such as posture, gravity, and fluid distribution in the body can affect an individual's height measurement. It is entirely possible that Tom Cruise's height may have appeared slightly different at different times during the filming due to these physiological factors.

To further investigate this topic, analyzing Tom Cruise's height in other movies filmed during a similar time period, before and after Top Gun, would be beneficial. Comparing his height in movies like Risky Business or Rain Man with Top Gun could provide additional evidence regarding any noticeable changes in height.

In conclusion, the speculations about Tom Cruise's height noticeably changing throughout the filming of Top Gun are not substantiated by scientific evidence. It is important to distinguish between on-screen illusions created by camera tricks and the reality of an individual's actual height. While Tom Cruise's height may have appeared slightly different in Top Gun due to various factors, it is unlikely that there was a noticeable change in his height during filming.

Johnny Depp Breaks Fashion Norms, Rocks a Crop Top with Style

Wearing lifts in films is a common practice among actors, and it serves multiple purposes. Lifts, also known as height increasing insoles, are shoe inserts that add height to the wearer. They can be made from various materials such as silicone or foam and are designed to fit discreetly into the shoes.

One of the primary reasons actors wear lifts is for character portrayal. In many films, the height of a character can significantly impact the role they play. For instance, if a character is meant to be intimidating or powerful, a taller stature can help convey these traits more effectively. Similarly, if a character is portrayed as vulnerable or submissive, a shorter height might be used to highlight these characteristics. By wearing lifts, actors can alter their height to better align with the vision of the character they are playing.

Another reason actors wear lifts is for aesthetic purposes. Height is often associated with attractiveness and physical presence. In the film industry, where appearance is crucial, actors may wear lifts to enhance their overall look on camera. A taller height can create a more commanding presence and make actors appear more visually appealing to the audience.

Furthermore, wearing lifts can also help actors maintain consistency in their scenes. Filmmaking is a collaborative process that involves multiple takes and angles. If an actor's height needs to be consistent throughout the film, lifts can ensure that their height remains the same in every shot, regardless of the camera angle or scene variation. This consistency can be essential for maintaining the overall visual continuity of the film.

While it is challenging to determine the exact prevalence of actors wearing lifts, it is widely believed to be a relatively common practice in the film industry. Many well-known actors have been rumored to wear lifts to enhance their on-screen presence. However, due to the secretive nature of the film industry, it is not always confirmed or discussed openly.

The use of lifts in films is not limited to actors who are naturally shorter. Even actors who are already tall may wear lifts to further exaggerate their height for specific roles. The goal is to ensure that the height of the character aligns with the creative vision of the film and allows for better storytelling.

In conclusion, wearing lifts in films is a widespread practice among actors and serves several purposes. It can help actors portray their characters more effectively, enhance their appearance, and maintain consistency throughout the film. While not openly discussed, the use of lifts in the film industry is believed to be relatively common, with many actors using them to enhance their on-screen presence and deliver impactful performances.

5 Stylish Ways to Wear a Triangle Bikini Top

Tom Cruise is a highly talented and successful actor who has been the subject of many rumors and speculations throughout his career. One recurring rumor that has persisted for years is the suspicion that he wears lifts in his shoes to appear taller on screen. While these claims have been widely debated, there have been no concrete proof or evidence to support these allegations.

One movie in particular that has been mentioned in connection with Tom Cruise wearing lifts is the 2005 film "War of the Worlds." In this film, Cruise portrays a character who is a relatively average height, which has led some to believe that he may have used lifts to appear taller next to his co-stars.

However, it is important to note that height difference among actors is often managed through various techniques, such as camera angles and creative staging, rather than relying on lifts. Additionally, actors are often cast based on their ability to embody a character, not solely on their physical appearance.

Furthermore, there have been instances where Tom Cruise appeared shorter than his co-stars in other movies, such as in the film "Valkyrie" where he stood next to taller actors like Kenneth Branagh and Tom Wilkinson. This suggests that his height is not always a determining factor in his role selection.

It is worth mentioning that Tom Cruise is known for his dedication to his craft and physical fitness. He performs many of his own stunts, which requires a great deal of physicality and agility. Wearing lifts could potentially hinder his ability to perform these demanding actions. Therefore, it is unlikely that he would compromise his physical prowess for the sake of appearing taller.

Ultimately, the allegations of Tom Cruise wearing lifts in movies are largely unfounded. While height may be a factor in casting decisions, it is doubtful that he relies on lifts to enhance his appearance. The focus should instead be on his exceptional acting skills, versatility, and dedication to his craft, rather than baseless rumors about his physical attributes.

Can You Wear a Top and Bottom Night Guard? Examining the Pros and Cons

Tom Cruise is one of the most iconic actors in Hollywood, known for his roles in action-packed films such as Mission Impossible and Top Gun. However, there has been a long-standing rumor surrounding Cruise's height and the use of lifts in his films. In this article, we will explore whether Tom Cruise has ever addressed these rumors.

Firstly, it is important to note that Tom Cruise is estimated to be around 5 feet 7 inches tall. This height is considered average for a man, but in the world of Hollywood, where taller actors are often preferred, it has led to speculation about Cruise's use of lifts in his shoes to appear taller on screen.

Despite the persistent rumors, Tom Cruise has never officially addressed the speculation surrounding his height and the use of lifts. While some actors might feel the need to respond to such rumors, Cruise has always been a highly private person when it comes to his personal life. He rarely comments on rumors or engages in discussions about his appearance.

However, there have been instances where Tom Cruise's height has been noticeable in certain films. For example, in the film "Collateral," where he starred alongside Jamie Foxx, there were scenes where Cruise appeared noticeably shorter than his co-star. This led to further speculation about his height and the possibility of lifts being used.

It is worth noting that lifts or elevator shoes are not uncommon in the world of entertainment. Many actors, both male and female, use lifts to enhance their appearance or to meet certain role requirements. The use of lifts is not exclusive to Tom Cruise, and it is a common practice in the industry.

Moreover, the focus on Tom Cruise's height and the use of lifts in his films tends to overshadow his exceptional talent as an actor. Cruise's dedication to his craft and his ability to perform incredible stunts has made him a beloved figure in the film industry. His height should not detract from his accomplishments or his ability to bring characters to life on the screen.

In conclusion, while the rumors surrounding Tom Cruise's height and the use of lifts in his films have been persistent, the actor has never directly addressed them. It is important to remember that height should not be the sole focus when evaluating an actor's talent and performance. Tom Cruise's success in the industry is a testament to his skill, dedication, and versatility as an actor, regardless of his height.

Robert Downey Jr.

The Marvel Universe superstar has talked about wearing elevator shoes in one of his interviews in 2010. Standing 172.1 m (5ft 7 ¾ ), RDJ shows no shame in getting a few more inches with his footwear to look better on screen. For our reference, his on-screen partner Gwyneth Paltrow is 175.3 cm (5ft 9) and they look great together! He simply makes up the height difference with his lifts.

Tom Cruise is 1.7 m (5ft 7) tall. While Robert Downey Jr. seems unbothered by the fact that he wears elevator shoes, The Mission Impossible actor, on the other hand, says he is very insecure about his height according to a 2011 interview. But a little lift from elevator shoes certainly makes him all the more dashing.

Daniel Radcliffe

It’s no surprise that Daniel Radcliffe stands at 1.65 m (5ft 5) only. The actor who’s best known for starring in the Harry Potter films revealed that like any other vertically-challenged actor in the industry he wears elevator shoes from time to time. Despite being told that he’s not the typical male lead due to his stature , he proved critics wrong by leading the cast of films like The Swiss Army Man and Jungle.

Mark Wahlberg

According to Mark Wahlberg, people do not expect that he’s only 172.7 cm (5ft 8) when they see him for the first time in real life. The actor and producer of the 2020 biopic Good Joe Bell regularly wears elevator shoes that add a full 5 cm to his height.

Sylvester Stallone

Portraying characters of strong tough men, Sylvester Stallone stands at 175 cm (5ft 9) tall. The Hollywood action star reveals that he looks taller than he actually is because he’s always in elevated shoes . We can’t tell if he did his stunts in his lifts but any movement is possible with a sophisticated, comfortable, and durable pair of elevator shoes.

Vin Diesel is short of 6 ft by half an inch but we can all agree that he’s not a short guy. Standing exactly at 181.6 cm (5ft 11 ½) tall, the actor of the Fast & Furious Saga wears thick-heeled boots and lifts , too. His usual 10 cm lifts almost close the height gap between him and his co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who’s 196 cm (6ft 5) tall.

George Clooney

The A-list Hollywood actor is aware that he’s not a short guy but he told the press in 2017 that former President Donald Trump thought otherwise . George Clooney is 180 cm (5ft 11) tall but he has been spotted wearing elevator shoes on the red carpet to look taller than his partners and of course, to look more dashing on screen.

Another A-list Hollywood actor, Brad Pitt, has also been spotted wearing elevator shoes on multiple occasions even if he’s not short. His impeccable posture makes him look taller than 180.3 cm (5ft 11), but he’s even taller when he wears his cuban heels and lifts on the red carpet and just when he's out and about.

It’s definitely okay if you want to add a few more centimeters to your stature—not because celebrities want them, too, but because elevator shoes are just simple enhancers that can boost your confidence and self-image. Hollywood Heights: The Ups, Downs And In-Betweens

Bob Mondello 2010

Bob Mondello

Nicole Kidman, 5 feet 11 inches, and Tom Cruise, 5 foot 7 and some change, at the Writer's Guild Awards in 1998.

Hollywood can make any actor look imposing by shooting from a low angle or building sets with short door frames. But the fact is that we want our heroes big and our villains bigger, and the average male actor is about the same size as the average American male — roughly 5 foot 9 1/2. And some very "big" stars have been a good deal less than that.

Yoda's a special case, obviously, but action-movie heroes often loom larger onscreen than they do in person. Sylvester Stallone, Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and even The Governator have all been cited by journalists as being more diminutive in the flesh than expected — none comes even close to 6 feet.

Alan Ladd, who sat plenty tall in the saddle in Shane, was later cast as a romantic partner for Sophia Loren, who's barely 5 foot 8, and their director had to dig a trench for her to walk in when they were arm-in-arm, so she wouldn't tower over him.

In Casablanca, Humphrey Bogart needed an extra cushion in a couch scene to keep audiences from noticing he was shorter than Ingrid Bergman. And in another film, Bogie reportedly set something of a Hollywood record by wearing 5-inch elevator shoes.

Some actresses, meanwhile, must try to be short, which is tough when you're a member of the 6-foot club: Sigourney Weaver, Brooke Shields, and Glee 's Jane Lynch. Uma Thurman and Nicole Kidman are right up there with them.

So who plays 6-footer Julia Child in the movies? Meryl Streep, who is barely 5 foot 6 but is a towering talent. Which gives the lie to this whole notion, really. We associate height with strength, power, dominance ... and of course, height has very little to do with any of those things. What it does have to do with is how we see relationships, and movie heroines are almost invariably expected to look up to their leading men.

Women over 5 foot 8 rarely get to wear heels in movies, though some of their leading men do. Cowboy boots give cowpokes an inch or two of a head start on mere mortals, and modified cowboy boots can do a lot more. Kirk Douglas reportedly wore pretty substantial lifts in his boots and was miffed one time when his buddy Burt Lancaster swiped them as a practical joke just before they had a scene together. Lancaster being a good half a head taller, the tech crew improvised and put Douglas on a box.

Which is nothing compared with what the tech crew had to do with Lord of the Rings: Hobbits are about as diminutive as movie heroes get; they're dwarfed even by dwarves. But fantasy movies play to a different set of rules. They're about wish fulfillment, the triumph of the little guy who never thought he'd be a hero. That's a storyline that resonates in Hollywood, say some, because the entertainment business attracts so many people of slight stature.

The theory goes that to avoid being overlooked, shorter people learned early to present themselves, to be forceful and expressive. Folks who grow up taller might not feel the same need to do that. Just a theory, obviously. And happily, casting directors need all shapes and sizes, from 2-foot-8 Verne Troyer in the Austin Powers movies to 7-foot-3 Peter Mayhew in Star Wars.

A website called celebheights.com — one of many devoted to the topic, believe it or not — has assembled height records for more than 3,000 performers and reports that the average actor in Hollywood is 5 foot 10, and the average actress is 5 foot 5. And the average Oscar winners, wouldn't you know it, are a little taller: 5 foot 11 and 5 foot 5 1/2. Clearly unfair, as neither their shoes nor their careers need lifts.

The ongoing debate over tom cruise’s height, katie holmes’ 33rd birthday celebration: style and venue details.

Starring in classic films such as Mission: Impossible, Top Gun , and Rain Man, this actor has undoubtedly gained much attention worldwide.

On July 10, 2021, in London, England, on day 12 of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Pom Klementieff (L) standing at 5ft 6 ¾ (169.5 cm), Tom Cruise (C) at 5ft 7 ¾ (172.1 cm), and his then-girlfriend Hayley Atwell at 5ft 6 (167.6 cm) were in attendance

While Cruise has stood proud with his vast array of awards and recognition, including nominations for three Academy Awards, a British Academy Film Award, and three Golden Globe Awards, this well-known Hollywood star has still magnetized attention, focusing on his apparent lack of height.

There has been much discussion about how tall Tom Cruise actually is. Read on to learn more about this topic and delve into this intriguing discussion!

Despite being commonly listed as 5’7″, Tom Cruise is reported to stand at 5ft 7 ¾ (172.1 cm). Interestingly, in the 1980s, he was often cited as being 5’8” or even 5’9”.

Indeed, in 1988, Cruise stated that he stood at 5’9” and weighed 147 pounds. Many observed him to have an average height and build. However, his striking blue eyes and captivating grin distinguished him from others in the film world.

When the 1988 American road drama film "Rain Man" was released in the United States on December 16, 1988, Dustin Hoffman was 51 years old, while Tom Cruise was 26 years old

However, being sighted next to other actors, actresses, and romantic partners has helped uncover the extent to which this actor really is short in this industry.

Despite this, Cruise hasn’t allowed this factor to emasculate him, tackling his career head-on in various captivating and memorable roles.

Tom Cruise wears a US men’s shoe size 9. In the UK, his shoe size is 8.5, and in Europe, it would be approximately size 42.

With the average male height standing at around 5’9” , many often point out the difference in Cruise’s height to others around him, especially when he is surrounded by over 6-foot-tall bodyguards who appear to dwarf him.

Even when not wearing high heels, 5′ 9″ tall actress Cameron Diaz towers over 5′ 7″ tall actor Tom Cruise

While shorter than the average male, this physicality hasn’t held Cruise back in his career, where he has stolen the show across decades of filmmaking.

Cruise has shown that he can work with a wide range of people, even if there is a much taller actress.

Tom Cruise and His Relationships With Taller Partners

Having dated many women who are standing taller than average , Tom Cruise’s ex-wife, American-born Australian actress Nicole Kidman , is just one of these women.

Within the film industry herself, Kidman wore incredibly flat shoes while filming Days of Thunder , yet the height difference between herself and Cruise was still very distinguishable.

“They had me in really flat shoes, but you could still see I was taller than him. I’d prefer to be smaller, but I don’t mind. I like the fact that he’s one of the most famous actors in the world and can work with anybody – but he doesn’t mind working with an actress who’s taller,” Kidman said about filming the 1990 American sports action drama film.

Brad Pitt and Nicole Kidman make Tom Cruise look short

After the couple’s divorce , Kidman soon joked that she could wear high heels again without the height drawing too much attention.

Cruise’s other ex-wife, Katie Holmes , is also taller than him at 5’9”, so it’s obvious that Cruise has had a history of getting used to his less-than-average height.

Cruise’s first official partner, Mimi Rogers, stands two inches taller than him at 5 feet 9 inches. Famous American singer Cher also took Cruise’s fancy, displaying this actor’s love for taller and older women.

Comedians loved poking fun at the height difference between 5'7" Tom Cruise and his 5'9" wife Katie Holmes

Therefore, while many factors stand in the way of modern relationships, Cruise appears to put love first when it comes to coupling up.

Rumors abound that Tom Cruise enhanced his stature with shoe lifts or elevated boots during ‘Interview with the Vampire’ to appear taller alongside Brad Pitt .

During filming, Cruise stood on platforms next to Pitt in certain scenes. The production team always tried to devise innovative solutions to reduce the height difference between Cruise, who is 5’7”, and Pitt, who is 5’11”.

To address the height difference between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise during the production of "Interview with the Vampire," the crew had Tom Cruise stand on specially-constructed platforms while Brad Pitt stood in a ditch to even out their apparent heights on screen

Therefore, they cleverly dug ditches for Pitt to stand in while acting in scenes opposite Cruise.

Considering the improvisations and techniques the team had to use to reduce the noticeable height differences between the two actors, it’s impressive that the film has held up so well over the years.

Therefore, while much discussion has been about one of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood’s less-than-average height, Tom Cruise doesn’t allow his co-workers and partners to diminish his overall performance and success.

As a Golden Globe award-winning actor, Tom Cruise’s success in Hollywood is undeniable. Despite his perceived lack of height, Cruise has consistently demonstrated a willingness to work alongside actors and actresses of various sizes.

This has showcased his versatility as an actor and helped him maintain his position as one of the most successful stars in the industry.

His dedication to his craft and astute fashion sense have allowed him to overcome any perceived physical limitations and carve a fortune in his acting career.

Tom Cruise stands at 5ft 7 ¾ (172.1 cm), which is often viewed as somewhat shorter than the typical leading man in Hollywood

With heads constantly turning in Cruise’s direction, his radiating confidence and flashing smile have helped him draw attention for the right reasons.

Katie Holmes was joined by her husband Tom Cruise in a sheer blouse paired with a black strapless jumpsuit

On December 18, 2011, Katie Holmes, accompanied by her parents, husband Tom Cruise, and daughter Suri, celebrated her 33rd birthday at the upscale restaurant Buddakan in New York City.

Katie Holmes, whose birth name is Kate Noelle Holmes, was born on December 18, 1978, in Toledo, Ohio, U.S. She is of German, Irish, and English ethnicity.

Wearing an Aladdin-esque black jumpsuit with white lace sleeves, Katie Holmes seemingly wanted to match the restaurant’s modern Asian theme that night.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise leaving their Manhattan hotel with daughter Suri to celebrate Katie's 33rd birthday at the Buddakan Restaurant in New York City

She completed her outfit with a pair of Rodarte for Opening Ceremony t-strap heels . They didn’t go with her outfit, but thankfully, they went with its black-and-white theme.

These pumps look jarring with those harem pants. But on their own and cropped as in the picture above, you can see that these T-strap pumps are quite stylish.

T-straps always have that retro vibe, but when made in black and white and finished off with a cap toe, they go back a few eras.

katie-holmes-pumps

Black and white T-straps would look really interesting in an office wardrobe when worn with pencil skirts or tailored suits. They’d also look great paired with floral a-line dresses or one of those 40s-style dresses from the Miu Miu Fall 2011 collection .

With the stiletto heel and the pointy toe, these Manolo Blahnik t-strap pumps have a sexier vibe. But the perforations and the black and white colors keep things retro. There’s also a very subtle wingtip design right at the toe:

For something a bit more vintage, we love this design from Marc Jacobs.

Spotting elevator shoes can sometimes be tricky, but one sure-fire giveaway is that the laces section of shoes will have a sudden and sharp increase in angle, making them seem unnatural. In this photo from the 2015 Mission Impossible premiere, Tom's shoes seem to fit the definition of a classic custom elevator shoe.

Over the last decade, Robert Downey Jr has seemed to grow taller, managing to look between 5ft 9 and 10 on many occasions. The reason? Have you seen his footwear!

Downey Jr Shoe Lifts

Action hero Vin is one of the best postured males in Hollywood, but does he really wear lifts? Undoubtedly Vin has a penchant for thicker footwear, especially logger-style boots which boost him 2 inches taller, but whether he has any lifts inside them is a matter of opinion.

The Heroes actor is somebody I've seen first-hand wearing very large footwear, which boosted his height by an extra couple of inches.

Simon has a certain style; boot-cut trousers or jeans which drape just that little bit longer to the floor than you'd expect. Many people speculate he wears lifts. He certainly seems to wear thick heels to add an extra 2 inches to his physique, but are these really elevator boots, or simply just a little cuban or cowboy heel?

Simon Cowell Shoe Lifts

In 2015 Radcliffe wore a pair of shoes that newspapers like the Daily Mail picked up on as looking rather suspicious. They certainly have a classic look of a small elevator shoe which could give about 2 inches in total height. Though, they are not as 'huge' as the papers seemed to suggest. Wearing shorter-length trousers and having bigger than average feet for a 5ft 4 man probably didn't help...

Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick

  • 03:37, 9 Jun 2022

Tom Cruise has been praised by fans after ditching visual effects to make him appear taller in Top Gun: Maverick .

Camera tricks have been used throughout the 59-year-old's career to make him appear at least the same height as his co-stars in the likes of Mission Impossible and The Last Samurai.

And in a famous promotional shot for the 1986 original Top Gun film, Cruise's 5ft 10ins lover Kelly McGinnis leans on his shoulder in order to make the pair appear the same head height.

After watching the new movie fans took to social media to praise both the 5ft 7ins actor and its production.

One Twitter user commented: "I like how Tom Cruise said f*** it and decided not to do any forced perspective to match anyone's height in Top Gun: Maverick. When you are an actor who flies a jet and stick yourself to a plane for a stunt, how tall you look on the screen is the least of your concern."

Another wrote: "I could tell Tom Cruise was taking Top Gun: Maverick seriously as an actor because he actually plays to his own height through the film versus being contractually taller than everybody."

A third added: "See, I think Tom Cruise has actually always been chilled about his height!"

A fourth said: "Re-watched the original last night and this new one is so much better. A lot of the flying scenes kind of blew my mind. I also loved how they stopped caring about how tall Tom Cruise looks so he's the shortest guy whenever there's wide shots."

The new movie appears to make no attempt to hide Cruise's slight stature, with some scenes clearly showing him looking up to 6ft 1in Miles Teller , who plays Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw's son Bradley 'Rooster'.

Anthony Edwards, who played 'Goose' in the original, stands seven inches taller than Cruise, yet angles used in the film directed by Tony Scott avoid revealing this, however.

Cruise, meanwhile, sparked speculation that he was wearing lifts in his shoes after he appeared almost the same height as Kate Middleton at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere.

The Hollywood star seemed to be very close to the same height as the Duchess of Cambridge, who measures up at 5ft 9.

He is widely believed to wear inserts, which boost his height as he stepped out in suit shoes with a stacked heel.

Inserts are insoles that can be placed inside a shoe to help the wearer gain extra height.

After Tom Cruise Celebrated Edge Of Tomorrow’s 10th Anniversary, Director Doug Liman Revealed Why He Thought The Actor Might Quit Early On

T he record-breaking success of Top Gun: Maverick has shown that when Tom Cruise returns to a popular film franchise, huge gains are possible. It’s only been a decade since Cruise starred in one of the best sci-fi movies in recent memory, Edge of Tomorrow , but there are still a lot of people who would love to see a sequel to that one. We still don’t know if we’ll ever get that follow-up, but it turns out there was a point when director Doug Liman wasn’t sure if we’d ever get the original movie. And his comments come shortly after Cruise marked the 10th anniversary of the flick.

Doug Liman just brought back another major franchise with Road House , which was a big hit with Amazon subscribers , and a sequel to that movie is already moving forward. When asked about the long-discussed sequel to Edge of Tomorrow by our sister site Total Film ( via GamesRadar ), Liman mentioned that he was once afraid Tom Cruise would quit the film because the character was so far from the traditional Cruise action hero role. Liman said…

I didn’t know if he was going to quit the movie when I proposed to him: what if we made his character a coward? It’s totally against the brand of Tom Cruise.

Tom Cruise doesn’t simply play the protagonist in most of his films. He usually plays heroes who are hyper-confident. While Ethan Hunt or Pete "Maverick" Mitchell may find themselves in situations where the odds are stacked against them, there’s never a question that they are capable of saving themselves because they are just so damn good at what they do.

Tom Cruise’s Major William Cage starts out in Edge of Tomorrow as the exact opposite of that. He cannot fight, and beyond that, he’s done anything and everything in his power to avoid a battle. When he finds himself in the middle of a war zone his instinct is to run away to save his own skin.

There have been stories about how some stars who have contractual requirements regarding fights , which stipulate that they not look weak in their movies. So it wouldn’t be that outside of the normal if Tom Cruise didn’t like the idea of playing somebody who wasn’t as tough and cool as his other characters. But, ultimately, Cruise was game for it, and I'm glad for that because the film is awesome!

Also, by the end of Doug Liman's film, Tom Cruise's character has largely become the archetype character we'd expect the A-lister to play. As such, if an Edge of Tomorrow 2 ever does happen , we can expect the star to play a character we’re more used to seeing. While little movement on a sequel has been made over the last decade, Liman says that WB is still very interested in another movie, so perhaps the sequel is still possible. Plus, Cruise's recent tribute to the flick may indicate that he still has affection for the film and would be open to returning. Let's hope that proves to be the case.

In the meantime, you can check out the action star playing a cowardly character in Edge of Tomorrow , which is available to buy or rent on digital platforms.

It’s not “mission impossible” for him to see at least one of his kids.

Tom Cruise was seen deplaning a helicopter alongside his son, Connor Cruise, in central London Friday — a week after skipping his youngest child Suri Cruise’s high school graduation .

Paparazzi snapped the action movie star, 61, wearing a short-sleeved, gray shirt that showcased his muscular arms and a pair of jeans as he grinned from ear to ear while leaving the heliport.

Connor, 29, meanwhile, was dressed comfortably in a black hoodie, gray slacks, sneakers, a matching cap and a pair of shades. The expression on his face, unlike his dad, was serious and calm.

Per eyewitnesses, the father-son duo were joined by a few other unnamed guests during the aerial outing.

Tom’s sighting with Connor comes as he faces backlash for missing a milestone celebration in Suri’s life.

A day after missing the 18-year-old’s graduation from LaGuardia High School, the “Mission Impossible” star chose to party with Swifties and celebs at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in London last Saturday.

Tom was spotted laughing and schmoozing with the pop superstar’s boyfriend , Travis Kelce, in the VIP tent and exchanging friendship bracelets across the pond.

Meanwhile, Suri rang in her commencement ceremony with mom Katie Holmes and fellow students.

It’s not surprising Tom didn’t make it to his daughter’s big day, though, as they’ve been estranged for years .

In March 2023, a source exclusively confirmed to Page Six that the “Top Gun” star has “no part” in the teen’s life, which he previously admitted in a deposition lawsuit was due to his  ties to Scientology .

When Holmes, 45, called it quits with Tom in 2011, she and Suri no longer had any part in the controversial church, which reportedly does not allow its members to associate with nonbelievers.

However, because Connor — who is Tom’s adopted son with ex-wife Nicole Kidman — is still a Scientologist, he is still able to spend quality time with his famous father.

In November 2018, Kidman, 57, opened up about Connor and his sister Bella Cruise’s decision to remain part of the Church of Scientology.

“They are adults. They are able to make their own decisions,” the “Moulin Rouge” star told Australian magazine Who at the time.

“They have made choices to be Scientologists and as a mother, it’s my job to love them. And I am an example of that tolerance and that’s what I believe – that no matter what your child does, the child has love and the child has to know there is available love and I’m open here.”

Kidman — who is now married to Keith Urban — divorced Tom in 2001.
