Ladies and gentlemen, this year's Oscar winners are officially in—the cruise ones, that is.

The experts over at Cruise Critic, a cruise reviews site and online cruise community, just announced the winners of its 11th annual Cruise Critic Cruisers' Choice Awards, which recognize the world's most popular cruises based on consumer reviews and ratings.

This year, the awards are a bigger deal than usual. Due to the pandemic, Cruise Critic paused their Cruisers' Choice Awards for two years, but now, they are back with newly found enthusiasm for world travel.

"With the successful return of the cruise industry, and a global demand that continues to grow, this year's awards are positioned to be more important and impactful than ever before," Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, said in a statement. "And as the cruise industry has returned to its new normal, it continues to prove its resiliency and dedication to delivering guests truly memorable vacations–as evident by this year's list of winners."

Just like your favorite movie awards, the Cruisers' Choice Awards recognize value in multiple categories and subcategories. The larger umbrella categories divide cruises depending on size, featuring the small ship, mid-sized ship, large ship, and specialty categories. Then, within each one of those categories, cruises are awarded in specific subdivisions, including overall cruise lines, cabins, dining, service, and value-for-money. For specialty cruises, the awards consider subcategories of river cruises and first-timers.

Here are the Cruise Critic Cruisers' Choice Awards winners of 2023:

Overall Cruise Lines winner: Viking (Ocean) Cabins winner: Viking (Ocean) Dining winner: Viking (Expedition) Service winner: Windstar Cruises Value-for-Money winner: Viking (Ocean)

The Best Cruise Lines of 2023, According to Cruise Critic

According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Resilient Lady isn't first in class, but it might be the best. Virgin perfected onboard entertainment in 2023, and the ship's detox-retox atmosphere carries over to ports like Santorini and Mykonos – thanks to exceptionally generous shore time."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Carnival has somehow achieved the impossible: taken a ship originally built for the Chinese market, with a strong Italian theme throughout, and successfully rebranded it for the U.S. market."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "With its endless dedication to kids, Disney Cruise Line breezes to the top of the pack when it comes to the family cruise experience. But Disney doesn't forget that adults are footing the bill, and it crafts a memorable experience for them, too."
According to Cruise Critic's Editors: "With each new ship, Carnival packs more and more into its fares – with fewer upcharges than most lines. On Carnival, you know you're never going to be nickel and dimed. Whether you're with friends, a significant other or your family, you're bound to have a good time, with minimum damage to your wallet."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Silversea's constant innovation and a desire to set the luxury bar ever higher sets it apart from all others. Sure, the line has suites, butlers, Champagne and caviar across the fleet, but it's more than that – Silversea's restaurants rival Michelin-starred establishments, its S.A.L.T. enrichment program is outstanding, and its art and décor are reminiscent of a five-star hotel. And Silver Nova is a giant step forward for a cruise line that has never been content with the status quo."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Crystal has built a reputation on exceptional service, and it comes down to the crew onboard, who are empowered to keep guests happy and satisfied, no matter the issue. Sailing on a Crystal ship feels like a vacation with family. No ask is too small – or too big – and service always comes with a sincere smile."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Sailing on an Emerald cruise ship feels a lot like seeing the world on your personal yacht – yet prices for cruises generally are less than what you'd pay on other luxury lines."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Whether you're traveling to Antarctica, the Arctic and Greenland or Australia's wild Kimberley, the ship allows you to get the most of your destination, by Zodiac, kayak, helicopter and submersible – and return to the best in creature comforts."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Affordable and Antarctica? Believe it. With its fleet of small upscale expedition ships, Atlas has shaken up the pricing for adventure trips, offering a nice level of inclusions at the farthest reaches of the earth. As a result, the line is drawing younger passengers – many who are on their very first cruises."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "Viking has earned its reputation as the leader on Europe's rivers, where it sails with an enormous fleet designed in serene Scandinavian style. Ships are consistent and instantly feel like home; staterooms are thoughtfully designed; and cruises are inclusive of things like excursions and drinks at mealtimes."
According to Cruise Critic Editors: "With extra-large staterooms and suites, trendy interior décor and one of the most gorgeous sundecks we've seen on a river-going ship, American Serenade sets the bar for domestic U.S. river cruising high."

MSC CRUISES WINS TWO CRUISE CRITIC EDITORS? PICKS AWARDS

London, UK – December 6, 2023 – MSC Cruises  has been recognised as one of this year’s best cruise lines in two categories of Cruise Critic’s 2023 Editors’ Picks Awards. Cruise Critic, the world’s leading cruise reviews site and online cruise community, presents these awards as the industry’s most comprehensive recognition of the best cruise lines of the year, as chosen by the site’s international team of cruise experts. MSC Cruises was awarded with the following awards in the Ocean Category: Best Nightlife MSC Cruises stands out for its vibrant nightlife, featuring numerous bars, lounges and entertainment across its entire fleet of ships. The cruise line is renowned for its themed nights, pop-up entertainment and world-class shows that keep guests engaged well into the night. According to Cruise Critic’s editors: “There aren’t many lines where, when the clubs and bars wind down, the party continues deep into the night. MSC has mastered the fun nightlife. Whether it’s a 70s theme night with the entertainment team dressed like the Village People, live DJs in the main promenade or a White Night Party with live music on the main pool deck, there is always something going on an MSC ship.” Best Suite Complex MSC Yacht Club offers a ship-within-a-ship experience, delivering a luxurious escape within the broader MSC Cruises offering. With access to all the regular dining, entertainment and amenities onboard, along with the option to retreat to a private, exclusive oasis for relaxation, MSC Yacht Club suites offer the best of both worlds. According to Cruise Critic’s editors: “MSC’s gorgeous MSC Yacht Club is proof that not all luxury suite complexes are created equal. This private enclave boasts all the requisite perks you might expect, from lavish suites to grand lounges and private dining areas. MSC sets itself apart by making that complex more accessible than ever before, thanks to the line’s value-priced MSC Yacht Club Inside Staterooms that provide a lot of luxe for a little dough.” Antonio Paradiso, Managing Director of MSC Cruises UK & Ireland said: “Being recognised by Cruise Critic in two categories of the 2023 Editors’ Picks Awards is a huge honour and gives us the chance to celebrate all the hard work which goes into delivering the world-class experience our guests enjoy on every MSC Cruises ship. These awards are not only a moment to celebrate but also encourage us to continue working hard to offer the best possible cruising experience.” Guided by the Cruise Critic editorial team’s impartial expertise – based on first-hand experiences and industry knowledge – the awards name the best-in-industry while also helping travellers select the best cruise for their specific interests and needs. Note that most awards organizations also honor games and creators in additional categories not listed above. We opted to concentrate on those categories that tend to recur most frequently among the different awards groups. In addition, we have omitted awards and organizations (such as the Golden Joystick Awards) that are determined solely by public voting, as well as any awards (like those theoretically handed out in the summer at E3) that don't primarliy correspond to the calendar year.

WHEEL OF FORTUNE Pat Sajak Vanna White

With Pat Sajak ’s final appearance as host of “ Wheel of Fortune ,” the makeup of a daily hour of television that structures the days of millions of Americans is shifting once more.

With queen catalog deal, sony would rule cooled music publishing market, popular on variety.

This transition is obviously different from Trebek’s — the chaos of replacing the “Jeopardy” emcee can be read, in part, as a sort of protracted mourning for a figure whose health struggles played out in public. Just plugging someone new in behind the podium might have read as disrespectful. Sajak, by contrast, is simply moving on, but the switch from him to Seacrest will make for a striking change for a show that remains indefatigably popular.

Seacrest’s main thing is being Ryan Seacrest, with all that implies: His work as a radio personality has inculcated a persona that is perennially “up,” with bounding enthusiasm and vigor. And his time at “American Idol,” which he hosts to this day, and Kelly Ripa’s “Live,” which he left in 2023, has inculcated in him a way of high-energy chatting that matches certain moments. He can volley back and forth with fellow celebrities, all of them comfortable on camera; he can comfort or celebrate a singer as they face the greatest moment of their professional life. But can he handle a somewhat lower-wattage setting? His prime-time, hypercharged energy may make for a sweaty fit on a show whose stakes, while real for the people on the stage, are slightly more human-scale.

He’s also following a broadcaster of the old school — someone for whom “Wheel” was not a side gig but the main event. And Sajak had honed his reactions well: A brutal and embarrassing wrong guess stings a bit less when the host doesn’t belabor his reaction, just allows the moment to speak for itself and keeps moving. And when a contestant wins the top prize, it’s their joy, not Sajak’s goosing the moment, that’s at the center of the frame.

The fact of a game show host being a tough job is proven by just how evident it is when people are doing it poorly. (Mike Richards, a polished and telegenic fellow, wasn’t a fit even before he was forced to step down due to controversial past remarks being uncovered.) Time will tell how the show metabolizes Seacrest; for the sake of continuity, its fans surely have to hope that White, “Wheel of Fortune’s” secret weapon , remains on board. But the fact of the show’s continued existence is owed, at least a bit, to Sajak’s continued presence, and his willingness to take on an identity tied directly and almost exclusively to one show in a way that feels unfashionable today.
