The 5 Best Country Music Videos of 2021
This year, the best country music videos made us laugh, think and feel inspired. From Jimmie Allen's road trip anthem to Kelsea Ballerini's journey back home, here are our five favorite country music videos of 2021.
"Freedom Was a Highway," Jimmie Allen Feat. Brad Paisley
Superstar collaboration "Freedom Was a Highway" was already one of the best songs on country radio, an ideal jam for road trips and a comforting reminder of simpler times for those of us who are no longer summer young.
It got even better with the addition of a music video co-directed by Jimmie Allen . An ideal mile marker for where country music's at in 2021 resonates even more with visuals ranging from the sentimental (that classic, red Ford Mustang) to the surreal (Allen's superhero landing).
It's all in line with Allen and co-writers Ash Bowers and Matt Rogers' appeal to the hometown dreamer in all of us.
"When I was writing this song with my co-writers, I imagined myself driving down my favorite roads in Delaware," Allen said in a press release. "This song takes me back to simpler moments such as an innocent, childhood crush on the next-door neighbor or feeling freedom in the wind as you drive with the windows down. I've loved this song from the creation. I'm a huge admirer of Brad Paisley . I love what he brings to music and I had to have him bring that same magic to this song. I'm humbled to have him join me on this song - he brought the freedom to the highway."

"Bill Dance," Luke Bryan
Back in the spring, Luke Bryan added a song about legendary fisherman Bill Dance to the deluxe edition of his Born Here Live Here Die Here album. It's an ode to healthy obsessions with bass fishing, on the same expanded album as two other love letters to weekends spent on the water: "Floatin' This Creek" and new single "Up."
Bryan wrote about the influence of Bill Dance Outdoors with songwriters Ben Hayslip, Dallas Davidson and Rhett Akins. As the song tells it, Dance's television presence, as still seen on the Outdoor Channel, keeps young fans in bass boats and out of trouble.
Bryan shared the song's music video on Dance's 81st birthday (Oct. 7). The country star spends quality time with a regional icon in footage that puts over how fishing brings generations of outdoorsy types together.
"Girl Who Didn't Care," Tenille Townes
The video for Canadian country troubadour Tenille Townes ' "Girl Who Didn't Care" tells four stories about dreamers' journeys from wide-eyed children to notable contributors in their chosen fields.
Beyond telling her own story, Townes shines a spotlight on Alyssa Carson, an astronaut with a shot at becoming one of the first humans to land on Mars; Sarah Fuller , the Vanderbilt University kicker who became the first woman to ever play and score points in a Power Five conference college football game; and Shannon Wells, a firefighter in Nashville and the type of hero that doesn't always make headlines.
"For the music video, I knew I wanted to capture the wonder of a few different little dreamers in that sweet age spot of believing anything is possible in this music video," Townes said in a press release. "And then it became such an important part of my vision for the video to highlight real stories of real women who have made the seemingly impossible happen."

"Half of My Hometown," Kelsea Ballerini Feat. Kenny Chesney
If Kelsea Ballerini's " Half of My Hometown " doesn't make you nostalgic for the high school days of your past, I don't know what will. The visual storytelling of the music video makes the song that much more moving and reminds you of when you were just a teenager with your whole life ahead of you. I'm immediately transported back to my own high school football stadium and remember the many faces of my former classmates, all of us anxious to graduate and get out into the world. I think we can all relate to Ballerini's sentiments that even if you are one of the ones who got out of your hometown, part of that place will always live inside you.
Ballerini made the video personal; she filmed it in her hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee and even filmed scenes at her old high school. She approached the video with a "what might have been" angle by telling a story of who she could have been if she never moved to Nashville to pursue her music dreams. As the video comes to a close, she shows real videos of her rise to Nashville fame, showing that she did leave, hopefully making her old peers proud. The end result is an incredibly moving story about dreams coming true. It makes it even more powerful that she's singing her song with another former Knoxville resident who also made it big in country music — Kenny Chesney .

"Remember Her Name," Mickey Guyton
Mickey Guyton released one of the best country albums of the year with Remember Her Name. The song's title track, an empowering anthem about overcoming obstacles, is perfectly showcased in its music video, directed by Stephen and Alexa Kinigopoulos. The video centers on a young girl who loses her father, a firefighter, on 9/11. As an adult, she trains to become a firefighter herself, overcoming adversity along the way. The crew even worked with a local Tennessee fire department throughout the filming of the video.
"Shooting my music video for 'Remember Her Name' was truly one of the most amazing, emotional, empowering moments in my career," Guyton said . "There's the ups and the downs and the twists and the turns and so often you want to quit. I've wanted to quit so many times in my career. There are certain points when I forgot who I was and who I am, and the message is saying: no matter how hard it gets, remember that girl. Remember her. Remember that girl who was so strong...Remember that person before all the hardships in your life. Because that person is so important and will get you through."

In 1981, MTV changed the world with its unique approach to music programming — featuring many of the hit songs that you heard on the radio — sometimes in completely different contextual settings as the music video began to be more prevalent in the promotion of music. From The Buggles to Michael Jackson to Madonna, the pop music world would never be the same.
A couple of years later, the country genre began to include the same promotional-style clips as part of the music business process for singles. Many early clips were simply of the artist on stage performing their songs, but as time went on the same creative process that clips such as “Thriller” unforgettable began to take flight, and careers could be forever changed by the power of a three-minute clip — regardless of chart position. Arguably, this was the hardest country list we have ever put together — so difficult that we came up with 15. Even then, it’s not perfect. A couple explanations to this list are in order before you read…..We tried to limit to one entry per artist (otherwise, it could be the Paisley / Toby / Reba list)……but we did feel the need to make one exception. And, we tried to go the conceptual route than more titillating videos — from both genders.

15. Mark Gray, “Left Side Of The Bed”
We would venture to say that you might be scratching your head on this one a bit. After all, modern-day country fans are not even likely familiar with the name of Mark Gray, but the former Exile member made a lasting visual impression with this stunning 1984 clip about a man lamenting the end of a relationship. The clip clocked in at nine minutes, but the video was effective in helping the song achieve a top ten hit for Gray. One couldn’t watch this clip and not be overwhelmed by the pure sense of emotion and loss.
14. Lorrie Morgan, “I Guess You Had To Be There”
Morgan has released plenty of videos, with many focusing on her stunning beauty, but maybe her best venture into the CMT world was this 1993 advertisement for this single from her Watch Me . In the video, Morgan alternates between remembering special times with her former lover, and also the pain of watching him move on. The leading man in the video was Kris Kristofferson, ensuring that we bet Morgan had a great day at the office while filming this one.
13. George Jones, “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes”
Any conversation about great country music videos has to include this seminal clip from 1985 featuring “The Possum.” The storyline revolves around Jones’s tour bus making a stop at an old country store in the middle of nowhere, only to realize that he wasn’t the first notable performer to make such a similar stop. The video used clips of many of the artists that were featured in the song, and the video became an early CMA award winner.
12. Darryl Worley, “I Miss My Friend”
One of the most attractive traits of a video is how they can sometimes change the total complexion of a song. If you simply listen to the audio track, you hear a moving – yet often told – of a man who was missing his former partner. However, the video for this 2002 single ends with a very emotional twist – Worley’s character being a ghost – that helped the song become his first No. 1 hit.
11. Ricky Skaggs, “Country Boy”
Where better for one for one of the top traditional artists of the 1980s to film a video proclaiming the fact that he hadn’t forgotten his small-town roots than…..New York City? In 1984, Ricky Skaggs was in his element, and the setting didn’t matter. In one of the most amusing country music videos, Bill Monroe is featured as Skaggs’ “Uncle Pen,” who comes to the Big Apple to see how uptown his nephew has become. “The Father of Bluegrass” gives some buck dancing tips to some teenagers on the subway, and even then-Mayor Edward Koch gives his endorsement by making a cameo.
10. Carrie Underwood, “Before He Cheats”
Ah, yes, that sweet Carrie Underwood, who had just broken through with her big hit single, the tender and sentimental “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” Think again! The singer received a little more of a tough side than her first couple of singles with this fiery performance and clip where she gets revenge on a cheating lover. The moral of the story is ‘Don’t Mess with Carrie,’ unless you want your truck dented in!
9. Travis Tritt, “Anymore”
Again, a video can sometimes take you places that a recording can’t. This 1991 hit proves this. The song was itself is a passionate plea for the return of a partner, but in the video, Tritt takes on the role of a wounded solider named “Mac,” who is in the process of going through rehab and is resisting his wife / lover – until the end. The video was very much responsible for putting Tritt on the A-list. The 1995 sequel “Tell Me I Was Dreaming,” was even more effective, but this is where the story started. A heart-tugging clip then and now.
8. Dierks Bentley, “Drunk On A Plane”
“Riser Air” might not be the safest airline that one could fly to their dream destination on, but it would be one of the most fun, no doubt. The video for this 2014 single — about a party in the friendly skies — notched a big win for the singer at the award shows, which brought him back to his roots in a sense. His career-opening single, “What Was I Thinkin,” was aided on its chart climb with an effective video, as well.
7. Brad Paisley, “Celebrity”
In 2003, American Idol was at its popularity peak, and Brad Paisley took a comical aim at the series with this entry into the greatest country video list with a film that took a shot at the excesses of being in the public eye. William Shatner parodies the Simon Cowell role on AI brilliantly, with appearances from Jason Alexander, Jim Belushi, Little Jimmy Dickens, and Bachelor star Trista Rehn. How could one not love a guest list like that?
6. Reba McEntire & Linda Davis, “Does He Love You”
There was a little bit of a Dallas / Dynasty feel to this 1993 clip about two Hollywood leading ladies, and the man who they have in common. The looks that the two give each other in this clip are straight out of Joan Collins and Linda Evans territory, with the Reba character deciding to off the other two — or so you think. The Dallas-style twist at the end — featuring Rob Reiner – turns out to be a priceless turn.
5. Martina McBride, “Independence Day”
Chart-wise, this 1994 single wasn’t even a top ten hit, but the song that helped to send the career of Martina McBride soaring was this Gretchen Peters composition about an abused wife / mother who can take no more. Had it not been for this video clip, listeners may have never paid true attention to the lyrics. The song and video represented career-defining moments for the four-time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, helping to shed light on a society problem that was — and is — all too true.
4. Toby Keith, “How Do You Like Me Now?!”
Who hasn’t lived the words of this 2000 Toby Keith hit? The video for this song further documented the triumph that a guy feels when he gets a chance to show that he’s made it – in the face of the girl who wouldn’t give him the time of day? And, regardless of gender, there’s someone who fits that bill in your life that you think about from time to time…
3. Hank Williams & Hank Williams, Jr., “There’s A Tear In My Beer”
Where would you find an instance of a 39-year old man standing next to his 20-something year old father, who has been deceased for almost three decades? In 1989, it would be on the video screen, as the benefits of modern technology made it possible for ‘Bocephus’ to share the same stage as his dad — who died in the back of a black Cadillac when he was a mere three years old. Today, almost three decades later, technology would allow so much more to be done in this vein, but the effect today of this clip is the same as it was in 1989 — mesmerizing.
2. Reba McEntire, “Fancy”
OK, what makes Reba McEntire so special that she gets two entries on this list? Have you ever seen her videos? Sure, artists like Paisley and Keith have released many more clips that could fall on this list, McEntire’s videos were more than just simple releases in the 1990s. They were mini-movies, telling stories sometimes that would make you laugh….and sometimes cry at how life could take some twisted turns. In this clip, Fancy Rae Baker returns to the place she grew up, and begins to recall her troubled childhood, a mother who had no choice to push her daughter into the world’s oldest profession, and the ultimate triumph. It was clips like this one that helped Reba set the course for a winning acting career that would go on to include her own sitcom.
1. Garth Brooks, “The Dance”
The idea of putting some simple clips of public figures to a musical lyric might not make that big of an impact in 2017, but in 1990, it was a different time. Tony Arata’s lyrics about living life to the fullest in the moments that you are given on this earth combined with the images of John Wayne, John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr, the Challenger crew, Keith Whitley, and rodeo rider Lane Frost (the last two having passed away died just a year before) stirred an emotional reaction not equaled before or since by viewers, easily making this the top pick on our greatst country videos list.

Larry Black explains how the “Country’s Family Reunion” video specials were born.
How it all Started
In 1996, Gabriel Communications emerged under the vision of the seasoned disc jockey, Larry Black. Pioneering the “reunion video” concept within the realm of country music legends, Larry’s idea was straightforward yet revolutionary – bring together the influential figures who shaped country music, encourage them to share their history, and perhaps grace us with a few heartfelt songs.
This simple yet powerful concept gave birth to the beloved and highly acclaimed television series, “Country’s Family Reunion.” The inaugural taping saw over 30 country music legends coming together to narrate their stories and perform their iconic songs.
The resounding success of this initial special served as a catalyst, inspiring the creation of over a dozen more projects. These subsequent endeavors featured hundreds of songs and stories, solidifying “Country’s Family Reunion” as a cherished and enduring celebration of country music’s legacy.

The best virtual tours to explore the world from home
Oct 8, 2020 • 5 min read
The Sistine Chapel is just one wonder offering a virtual museum tour ©Rajesh Gathwala/500px
We live in an age of unprecedented access to digital technology – and with it, brand new ways of exploring the world around us.
While it's not quite the same as seeing, say, the Mona Lisa or Christ the Redeemer in person, some of the world’s most popular and remote destinations have created libraries of online images and video, as well as 360 degree virtual tours that let you virtually explore museums, galleries, world wonders and even national parks.
Here a just a few of the best digital tours that let you wander the world from wherever you may be social distancing.
See the seven wonders of the world
If there’s anything capable of whetting your appetite for world travel, it is the new seven wonders of the world: the Great Wall of China , the ancient city of Petra , the Taj Mahal , the Colosseum , Machu Picchu , Christ the Redeemer , and Chichen Itza . Thankfully there are impressive virtual tours of each from The New York Times , AirPano , Google , and Panoramas .
With modern technology, you can even see the last standing wonder of the ancient world— The Pyramids of Giza . There are a few other wonders that might not make it into to the top seven but are still worth a digital peek, like the Alhambra , Seville's La Giralda , and even Easter Island.
Best virtual museum tours
In recent years, Google has partnered with over 2,5000 art museums to upload high-resolution versions of millions of pieces of art. Highlights include New York’s MoMA , DC’s National Gallery of Art , Chicago’s Art Institute , the Casa Battl ó, and Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum to name a few.
In addition, The Louvre offers a virtual tour , as do The Vatican Museums , many of the Smithsonian Museums , the Russian Museum , the top-rated British Museum , the Minneapolis Museum of Russian Art , and the Palace Museum in Beijing.
You may not be able to kiss the Blarney Stone right now, but you can tour the Blarney Castle from afar. You can also visit the Museum of Flight, the Museum of Science, the Museum of Natural History, the National Women's History Museum and Boston's History of Science Museum .
While museums are often an inherently visual experience, there's a lot to be learned from archives of past lectures and tours like the ones preserved online by Nashville's Frist Museum , the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Frick , and others.

While travel to National Parks is best avoided for the time being, you don't need to miss out on the scenery. Virtual Yosemite is absolutely stunning and one of the best, replete with audio. Both Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore offer virtual tours as well.
Google has similar 360 degree audio-visual tours of five select national parks, including Kenai Fjords, Hawai'i Volcanos , Carlsbad Caverns, Bryce Canyon , and Dry Tortugas, as well as 31 more on Google Earth . You can also get an up-close look at almost 4,000 pieces of artwork, artifacts, and other treasures related to the history and culture of the national parks, and view online exhibits .
Digital safaris
Wildlife is a big draw for travelers, whether it's sighting some of the Big Five in Africa, glimpsing whales in North America, or introducing your children to new animals in person on a family safari . But if you're forays into the bush are grounded for now, many zoos and aquariums have created digital access to their habitats.
You can easily watch several live webcams of some of the nation’s greatest zoos and aquariums, including the San Diego Zoo , Houston Zoo , Zoo Atlanta , the Tennessee Aquarium , and the Georgia Aquarium . Additionally you can see Canadian farm animals doing their thing , or you could watch Stella the Dog jump endlessly into huge piles of Maine leaves.

Virtual hiking
Thanks to panoramic video, you can get a really good idea of what a hike looks like well before you arrive at the trailhead. For example, you can experience all of the following top-rated hikes right now from your computer or tablet: Bryce Canyon , Grand Canyon , GR20 , Inca Trail , and the death-defying Angel's Landing . For even more great hikes, simply YouTube one of Lonely Planet’s top 10 treks or any other hike that suits your fancy. Bonus points if you follow along during a workout to enhance the realism.
Famous landmarks
You can visit many wonders of nature, including the Amazon Rainforest , Iguazu Falls , the Komodo Islands , or Table Mountain , using virtual tours. Or you can explore the Statue of Liberty , the Sahara Desert , Niagara Falls , or even a guided tour of the Eiffel Tower . For even more virtual tours, search your bucket list of adventures with AirPano , Google Earth , or YouTube .
Travel to outer space
The moon hasn't made it to Lonely Planet's Best In Travel list (yet!), and even without self-isolation and shelter-in-place measures for COVID-19, many of us may never travel to space. But thanks to technology, now is as good of a time as any to do so virtually. Before blasting off, considering touring some of NASA’s offices first. Then relive the last lunar missions and moon walks in stunning HD. Or take a virtual tour of Mars with the help of Google.

Scheffler Arrest
Videos of Scottie Scheffler's arrest released by Louisville police
Two videos of an incident between Scottie Scheffler and Louisville Metro Police detective Bryan Gillis were released Thursday afternoon.
Following a press conference with Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg and Louisville Metro police chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel, the LMPD posted the only known police footage of Scheffler’s arrest outside of Valhalla Golf Club last Friday ahead of the second round of the PGA Championship. Both Greenberg and Gwinn-Villaroel have acknowledged that Gillis did not have his body camera activated during his encounter with Scheffler, which violates LMPD policy.
The first video released, taken from a police car dash cam video camera near where the incident took place, runs about 55 minutes. At the 22:48 mark of the video, it would appear Scheffler's courtesy car comes from behind the bus and starts to enter Valhalla Golf Club. The car eventually is stopped, but out of the screen of the video. At the 25:17 mark, Scheffler can be seen walking with two officers in handcuffs. He again appears on the camera, walking in front of the police car with an officer, around the 42:31 mark.
In the second video, taken from a fixed-pole camera on Shelbyville Road across from the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club, it appears Gillis is running toward Scheffler’s car:
Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from a officer directing traffic. Scheffler is alleged to have driven past a police officer against the officer’s instructions while trying to enter the club. Scheffler called the incident a misunderstanding, although a police report states that Gillis was dragged by Scheffler’s car, which led to injury and damage of Gillis’ pants. Scheffler’s lawyer Steve Romines has disputed the nature of the incident.
Scheffler’s arraignment was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was pushed back to June 3. Romines has told multiple news outlets that Scheffler will enter a not guilty plea. “Our position remains the same," Romines said following Thursday's press conference. "It will either be dismissed or will go to trial. We’re not interested in settling.”

2024 Charles Schwab Challenge Full Field: 11 of World Top 30 Including Scottie Scheffler
John schwarb | may 20, 2024.
After a week’s break for the season’s second major, the PGA Tour returns for the second part of its Texas two-step in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Colonial Country Club is one of the Tour’s classic venues, hosting tournaments since 1946. For the sixth year, it’s called the Charles Schwab Challenge and a solid field will be on hand especially considering its spot on the golf calendar one week after a major.
Eleven of the top 30 in the Official World Golf Ranking are scheduled to compete, led by world No. 1 and Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler. He has an arraignment Tuesday morning in Louisville, Ky., in the aftermath of his Friday arrest at the PGA Championship and as of Monday morning it was unknown if he would appear in person.
Jordan Spieth is among the top players in the 133-player invitational field, also playing in a home game. Ditto Tom Kim. Defending champion Emiliano Grillo returns, as does 2022 champion Sam Burns and 2020 winner Daniel Berger.
They’ll all take on Colonial, a 7,289-yard par-70 that puts an emphasis on precision, appropriate for the club’s most famous member and five-time champion, Ben Hogan.
See the full field below from the PGA Tour Communications X account, and follow the post for any field adjustments.

Pierceson Coody cards best round as TOUR professional Friday at Charles Schwab Challenge
Change Text Size
FORT WORTH, Texas — Pierceson Coody fired his best round as a TOUR professional Friday, a 5-under 65, with dusk approaching at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
On the strength of three straight birdies to finish after a short weather delay, the 24-year-old Coody nudged into a share of second place at 8-under par. It put him a step closer to his best tournament in his young career; he tied for 14 th last season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
“It's a nice feeling because the season hasn't been what I wanted it to this year, and to know that my game's going the right direction, it's great,” said Coody, who’s made eight cuts in 22 starts on TOUR after a stellar career at the University of Texas.
“I'm trying to stay kind of in a process mindset with everything and just build because I know I still have a lot of events left and an opportunity to go win the tournament is a great feeling,” he said.
After a suspension of play at 5:04 p.m. local time, Coody made a long birdie putt at the par-3 16 th with his grandfather, 1971 Masters champion Charles Coody, watching from a seat near the green with an old persimmon fairway wood in his hand. Pierceson Coody birdied the 17 th with a putt just inside 4 feet. His approach shot on the par-4 18 th nearly plunked into the hole, leaving him a 3-footer for three in a row — and his best 36-hole position in two years on TOUR.
Coody, who grew up in nearby Plano, Texas, said the still conditions after the weather delay gave him the confidence to be aggressive.
“It was nice to see some of my wedge shots and approach shots kind of end up in a spot that I could roll a few extra birdies in,” he said.
His twin brother, Parker, played in the group behind him. Parker Coody made the cut at 2-over on the number, the second time the twins have made a cut together. They also did it at the Valero Texas Open, where Pierceson Coody finished in 74 th place.
Parker Coody plays Round 1 in front of grandfather, Charles, at Charles Schwab
Coody, who shot 67 in the first round, said playing Colonial Country Club is a privilege, given his grandfather’s fondness for the course. An uncle took Charles Coody from Abilene to the tournament when he was 14 years old, inspiring a career of 639 starts and three wins.
Charles Coody played college golf at TCU, just a few miles south of Colonial.
"I'm just happy that I'm taking advantage of the opportunity," said Pierceson Coody said.
The opportunity’s just beginning.
