Ibiza’s dining scene once played second fiddle to the island’s fabled nightclub scene. However, as the island’s original ravers have grown up, the restaurants have become the hottest tickets on the island.

Every restaurant on the Condé Nast Traveller 19 best restaurants list has been selected independently by our editors and written by a Condé Nast Traveller journalist who knows the destination and has eaten at that restaurant. The list includes both high-end and affordable eateries that offer an authentic and insider experience and features the Sabina Clubhouse Restaurant.

It's no secret that the smallest Balearic island is generously peppered with great restaurants . In every corner of the White Isle there are family-owned fish restaurants, upmarket beach bars, tourist traps and fine dining zones in abundance, each complete with rosé slinging waiters weaving between the tables.

No one wants to end up in an overpriced beach bar that's quietly defrosting ready meals in the back. To prevent this most unfortunate of situations from befalling you, we've rounded up the 32 best restaurants in Ibiza , each tried and tested by your writer.

MAY WE SUGGEST: The best hotels in Ibiza, tried and tested

Juntos House

  • Best for: Farm-to-table dining that feels genuinely exciting
  • When to visit: Sundowners/dinner
  • Address: Camí de S Pla, S/N, 07816 Sant Mateud'Albarca, Illes Balears, Spain

It's a rare thing to find a new restaurant that has such a strong sense of identity; a place where everything is well thought through and executed. Juntos House is a such a beast. From the restaurant's layout, to their artist collaborations, to the boutique and food and staff, everything feels cohesive and together (the name makes sense now).

At its heart, Juntos House is an agroturismo, where farm-to-table dining is king and good ingredients are the centrepiece of every dish. Top dishes include the aubergine and the tuna skewers.

  • Best for: Sundowners bathed in glorious light
  • Address: Ctra. Cap Negret, 25, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany, Illes Balears, Spain

One of the most rugged and beautiful spots on the island, La Torre is the perfect place for sundowners and an early (for Spain) dinner. Book a table for about an hour before sunset so you're primed and ready for the show, or reserve a spot for cocktails ahead of your meal. This is a place for a full three courses, rather than tapas or small plates, so be prepared to be very full on departure.

Maine Ibiza

  • Best for: Glamour near Old Town
  • When to visit: Lunch or dinner
  • Address: Carrer de Llucmajor, Las Salinas, Ibiza

As regular frequenters to London's The Maine Mayfair , our ears pricked up when we heard about its new iteration on the White Isle. Located a short drive away from Old Town, Maine Ibiza is a world away from its Mayfair home but just as magnetic – and just as glamorous. The outdoor restaurant can be found in a carefully restored 18 th  century finca by the small church of Sant Francesc de S’Estany and the picturesque salt flats of Salinas - a UNESCO world heritage site. Food is fresh and vegetable-forward (think: tomato carpaccio and chargrilled artichoke hearts). We opted for the Heritage Dinner which started with oysters with fermented jalapeno mignonette and ended with a delightful broken peach apple pie with mascarpone and puff pastry - Tal Dekel-Daks

Experimental Beach Ibiza

  • Best for: Bright Balearic dishes and killer cocktails – and flamingo spotting
  • When to visit: Lazy lunch/sundowners
  • Address : Camino Cap des Falco, 4856, 07818 Ibiza

A beautiful, meandering drive past Ibiza's Las Salinas salt reserve flats (and past groups of flamingos) gets you to Experimental Beach Ibiza. The secluded open-air restaurant and beach club is only a 15-minute drive from Old Town but feels a world away. It's a favourite haunt for watching the sunset over the Mediterranean on a sunlounger with a cocktail in hand. But even still, the food is absolutely the star of the show. From a spectacular local red prawn aguachile to seabass in (very local) salt crust, each dish feels local, fresh and delicious. - Tal Dekel-Daks

Los Enamorados

  • Best for: Feeling like you're ‘in the know’
  • When to visit: Lunch
  • Address: Ctra. Vénda de Portinatx, 103, 07810 Portinatx, Illes Balears, Spain

There's only one way to describe Los Enamorados: it feels like the real Ibiza. It's not too polished, nor is it too curatedly bohemian. It's pulsating with an artistic spirit that feels genuinely quite thrilling. The restaurant is part of a boutique hotel and is perched above one of the most beautiful coves Ibiza has to offer. Arrive early in the morning and reserve one of the sun beds from the small hut at the back of the beach, then wander up for lunch when it's time. Be warned, you've got to book a spot here, about a week or so before you plan on going, as it does get very busy. The menu is relatively broad, with an emphasis on wellness, and boasts a mix of fresh fish, ceviche and salads, poké bowls and tacos.

  • Best for: A change of pace

Opening its doors for the first time this summer, Zitya has done the impossible task of standing out in Ibiza's saturated culinary scene.

Set on the site of an iconic 00s hangout frequented by Mick Jagger, Kate Moss and Elle McPherson, the venue has been completely reimagined by French design firm, PINTO. Think rich reds, warm candlelight and dinner under the stars.

Curated by Executive Chef Timothy Newton, the menu is a breath of fresh air on an island dominated by tuna tartare and tomato salads, choosing instead to offer a contemporary take on Rhodian cuisine. Don't leave without trying the feta kataifi.

  • Best for: Small plates and natural wines
  • Address: Carretera Club Figueral, 48, 07850 Es Figueral, Balearic Islands, Spain

By far the coolest new spot in Ibiza, Nudo is the product of not one, not two, but three ex-Noma chefs. It has all the hallmarks of a hip East London spot: the childlike logo, the emphasis on natural wines, and the small plate sharing concept are all there, just transplanted onto the Balearic coastline. It's only open from 13:00-18:00 daily, so you'll need to be organised if you want to get a table. The food is made up of typical Mediterranean ingredients, but cooked using different global techniques. The beach it's set on, Figueral, isn't the most beautiful, so we recommend setting up at the nearby Aigues Blanques in the morning, before heading to Nudo for your lunch or very early dinner.

Cala Gracioneta

  • Best for: Laidback lunching
  • Address: Cala Gracioneta, Playa de Cala Gracioneta, 5, 07820, Sant Antoni de Portmany, Islas Baleares, Spain

Tucked away in an unassuming corner of San Antonio, this beach restaurant is an absolute must visit. The interiors are quintessential Ibiza, with wooden tables and chairs casually set up and scattered around the cove. We recommend it for lunch, where the shaded canopy provides respite from the midday sun. Though, as the evening approaches, the whole place is cast in that famous Ibicencan golden light and live music is often performed until late. It's set right on the beach, so if you go for lunch you can spend a lazy afternoon stretched out on the sand, popping back inside for a mojito or margarita at leisure. Order the paella to share between friends and family, along with the cuttlefish croquettes.

Café Montesol

  • Best for: Views of Dalt Vila
  • Address: Passeig de Vara de Rey, 2, 07800 Eivissa, Illes Balears, Spain

Café Montesol offers something a little different: it's not dining in the old town, but dining with a view of it. As the restaurant is part of the Montesol Experimental boutique hotel, it's open for breakfast, lunch and dinner–but for the most spectacular views of Dalt Vila, we recommend going for sunset. The kitchen is headed up by chef Alex Larrea, whose menu includes tapas and local delicacies, fresh vegetarian dishes and charcoal grilled fish, all ready to be washed down with some of Spain's best small producer wines. If you choose to dine in the square outside or on the roof, don't miss popping your head inside to see the playful interiors by Dorothée Meilichzon.

  • Best for: Small plates in the sun
  • Address: Carrer Ricardo Curtoys Gotarredona, 1, Local 9C, 07840 Santa Eulària des Riu, Balearic Islands, Spain

Small plate fans will undoubtedly love Hämbre–Santa Eulalia's experimental and exciting new spot that opened just over a year ago. Brainchild of Antía Pagant and Matias Romano, the restaurant is a much needed injection of life into the sleepier side of the island.

Dishes range from creamy stracciatella and smoky aubergine, to a five cheese cheesecake, all paired with natural wines supplied by Sed, Hämbre's sister bar.

The location - and restaurant design - isn't the best, but that just means there's more attention paid to the food and ingredients than whether the tables are set perfectly. Here, you eat at bistro tables on the pavement of Santa Eulalia, enjoying great food and watching locals and tourists alike strolling by.

Aubergine by Atzaró

  • Best for: Farm to table dining
  • Address: Carr. de San Miquel, km 9, 9, 07815 Sant Miquel de Balansat, Balearic Islands, Spain

Part of the Atzaró group, Aubergine offers a completely different atmosphere to both their beach club and their hotel. Found at the end of a winding track, Aubergine is set right in the heart of the island's countryside. It's one of the most romantic spots on Ibiza, where fairy lights strung in between trees only enhance the star studded sky above.

Best for Celebrity spotting When to visit Early afternoon into the evening Address Cala Jondal sn 07800 Eivissa ...

Blue Marlin

  • Best for: Celebrity spotting
  • When to visit: Early afternoon into the evening
  • Address: Cala Jondal, s/n, 07800 Eivissa

Possibly the most well known spot on the island, Blue Marlin has earnt itself a reputation as a celebrity haunt in just under two decades. Guests can book sun beds (one bed seats four) or tables in the bar and restaurant depending on their preference.

Like many of the beach clubs on Ibiza, the vibe of Blue Marlin is ‘event dependant’. The party days happen Thursday to Sunday, where the dance floor becomes raucous from around 9pm. Monday to Wednesday the place has a more relaxed, beach-y vibe.

Be prepared to spend here, as everything is expensive–though what do you expect from a place where the booking form asks for the name of your yacht?

El Olivo Mio

  • Best for: Dining in the old town
  • Address: Plaça de Vila, 9, 07800 Eivissa, Illes Balears, Spain

Sometimes you have to lean into the fact that you're a tourist, and this is especially true if you want to dine in Dalt Vila. We recommend eating in the old town at least once, as the location offers something totally different to the rest of the island, and at night, when the air is cooler, it comes alive. El Olivo Mio is one of the most charming spots here, with chairs lining the wonky stone streets in a casual fashion. Entertainment arrives at intervals, with dancers and musicians performing for your pleasure.

Casa Jondal

  • Best for: The fashion crowd
  • Address: Casa Jondal, 11019, 07839, Illes Balears, Spain

The third big spot on the San José beach of Cala Jondal, this is possibly one of the most expensive lunch restaurants on Ibiza–but it's worth it. Jondal opened in 2020 to what was probably the quietest summer Ibiza has seen since the 1960s. However, thanks to its perfectly curated vibe of low chairs, jute rugs and burlap sails strung up between Ibiza's famous sabina trees, alongside a food offering headed up by world renowned chef Rafael Zafra, it's seen success beyond belief. Last summer the whole place was decked out in Burberry monogram fabrics, so it's certainly a place for the fashion set.

  • Best for: Beach bums

Perfect for both a quick lunch and a long leisurely one, Amante is a beach club stroke restaurant that performs both functions with a deft touch. The kitchen is open from 13:00 until midnight, with sun beds from 11:00, so you can flit from lounger to dining table to cocktail bar without time constraint. There's a very laidback feel here–it's buzzy without being posey. Expect lots of fish dishes, tartares and ceviches, as well as classic Spanish rice dishes. Oh, and don't miss their outdoor cinema evenings which run throughout the summer season.

Atzaró Beach

  • Best for: Lunch enjoyed lounging on a day bed
  • Address: Playa, Av. Cala Nova, s/n, 07849, Balearic Islands, Spain

There are two options here at beach club-cum-restaurant Atzaró. The first is to find a spot on the beach at Cala Nova and spend the morning tanning on the sand, popping back up for lunch when the midday sun gets too intense. The second is to book a day bed at Atzaró and order food to it as and when you feel like it. Whatever your preference, you're sure to enjoy a delicious meal. The food is a healthy combination of vegetarian options and seafood dishes, with fresh juices and cocktails available all day.

Not for the faint hearted, Cova Santa is essentially a club that serves dinner. Built into a hill, the restaurant is set over several staggered terraces, with a DJ at the bottom of the hill and a tattoo parlour, shop and roof top bar at the highest point.

Be sure to check what event is on when you want to visit, as the feel of the place differs from one day to the next. One evening there might be a arts and crafts market, on another there might be a world famous DJ on the decks.

You'd be forgiven for thinking that, in a setting like this, there is no way the food can also be good–you'd be wrong. The food is outstanding, with mouth-wateringly good tomato salad, red prawn carpaccio and king crab dishes. However, the banana leaf sea bass is the star of the show.

Sunset Ashram

  • Best for: Sunset dining
  • Address: Carr. de Cala Conta, s/n, 07829, Balearic Islands, Spain

In many ways, Sunset Ashram is similar to La Torre, with (as the name suggests) one of the best views of the sunset on the island. However, where La Torre is rocky, Sunset Ashram is sandy, and you can run all the way down to the sea's edge to watch the sun slip into the ocean. The spot has a hippy vibe, and a hush falls in the restaurant just before the sun fully goes down, followed by a scattering of applause. The food here is split into three sections: sushi, Indian inspired and Mediterranean.

Another hotel restaurant, Casa Maca feels beautifully rural despite its easy to reach location. Dinner here is best drawn out over several hours, starting just before sunset and lasting until the moon is high in the night sky. Like Jul's and Aubergine, many of Casa Maca's ingredients are grown onsite on their organic farm, but it's the steak and truffle mash that this spot is famed for. Food can be seen cooking over an open fire, or the enormous grill, where fish, meat and vegetables are prepared. Expect DJs and live artists throughout the evening.

Juan y Andrea

  • Best for: People watching over paella
  • Address: Playa Illetes, s/n, 07871 Illes Baleas, Illes Balears, Spain

A staple on Formentera, Juan y Andrea has been serving up good food and good times since 1971. Be prepared for a bit of a party feel, this isn't the quietest restaurant on the island, but it is pleasantly lively rather than overwhelmingly so. The food is classic seafood done with a family style feel, and the drinks are free flowing. It's a great people watching spot too, with the who's who of Ibiza coming into the restaurant on tenders at regular intervals.

The quieter neighbour of famed party spot Blue Marlin and the recently opened Jondal, Yemanjá has carved out its own niche on this populated stretch of coastline. The decoration is typically Ibicencan, with large tables and chairs placed at random on the sand. Open everyday until 18:00, Yemanjá is more of a destination dining spot, as the sea here is rougher and rockier than the rest of the island. Instead, ‘bar hop’ between the three spots: lunch at Yemanjá, lounge at Jondal, and dance at Blue Marlin.

  • Best for: Healthy lunch in between swims

Part of the Amante group, Aiyanna is the more cheerful looking venue of the Cala Nova duo. As with many of the northern venues, the spot leans into the more bohemian side of Ibiza, with colourful parasols and fabrics draped between trees and a menu made up of organic ingredients sourced from the restaurant’s own garden. Cala Nova itself is well worth a visit: it's a gently curving sandy bay populated with a calmer crowd than Las Salinas or other beaches closer to Ibiza town.

  • Best for: Dancing in between courses
  • Address: Beso Beach, Platja de ses Salines, 07871, Sant Jordi, Islas Baleares, Spain

There are two Beso Beach spots in Ibiza. One is on Formentera, Ibiza's baby sister, and one is on Salinas, a long stretch of white sand that lines the south eastern coast.

At the Salinas branch, you can either book a table inside the restaurant, or book a sun lounger on the beach. These are both subject to a minimum spend. For those in a more frugal mood, we recommend heading to the beach for around 11am and securing one or two public access sun loungers just to the side of the restaurant. They cost 15€ each for the day, and you can order food and drinks from Beso Beach to your bed.

The Formentera branch often hosts secret parties. Be prepared to spend several hours here; it's not a pit stop.

La Escollera

  • Best for: Rubbing shoulders with locals
  • Address: Playa Es Cavallet, 07817 Sant Jordi de ses Salines, Illes Balears, Spain

For nearly 30 years La Escollera has been a staple of Salinas beach, serving food that traverses the boundary between home cooked family meal and impressive dishes from around the globe. Paella, sushi and green curry can all be found on a menu that puts a twist on the typical Spanish beachfront meal.

  • Best for: Trying local dishes in a beautiful setting
  • Address: Playa Es Torrent, s/n, 07830 Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Balearic Islands, Spain

A website-less restaurant that only takes reservations by phone, in many ways Es Torrent has remained unchanged since the eighties. It started out as a lowkey, humble beach bar, but soon turned into a local favourite. If you've been wanting to sample the local dish, bullit de peix, this is the place to do it. We recommend making a day of it and reserving some sun beds after lunch so you can enjoy the quiet bay.

More modern than many of the other restaurants on this list, Jul's feels like somewhere you might stumble across in the middle of a busy city like London or New York. It feels eminently contemporary, yet somehow hasn't lost any of its Ibicencan spirit.

Arguably the best service on the island, the staff at Jul's go to great lengths to ensure your every desire is catered for. Plus, the head bartender current holds the title of best bartender in Spain, so the drinks here are a cut above.

Most of the food served here is grown on the Jul's farm, so you'd hard pushed to find fresher ingredients. Highlights include the carabiñeros giouvetsi - a sea urchin orzo dish - and the silver cod.

Set around the hotel's pool, Izakaya is transformed from sun lounger central to ambient restaurant at 5pm each evening. Tables are in the heart of Sir Joan hotel, and glamorous, tanned people skulk in and out throughout. The vibe is very laidback, the food is great, but Izakaya definitely feels more like a stop off before a night at Pacha or in Dalt Vila, rather than a destination. It's worth the stop though, with platters of sushi and fresh fish served alongside well balanced cocktails.

San Antonio might have a reputation for being the ‘lads’ holiday' part of Ibiza, but places like Villa Mercedes go to show that good food can be found in every part of the island. • Best for: Michelin star food and an unforgettable experience
  • Address: Carrer Major, 3, 07800 Eivissa, Illes Balears, Spain

The food at 1742 might be some of the most exciting in Ibiza. The restaurant experience begins in Dalt Vila, where you are collected and driven up to the very highest point in the old town, where sweeping views of the iconic Dalt Vila lie at your feet. Headed up by Dutch Michelin starred chef Edwin Vinke, the food is both unexpected and exciting. Vinke is known for his creative concepts and, fair warning, the restaurant design is a little strange, but his culinary prowess alone makes it worth the trip.

Oku Restaurant

  • Best for: Poolside glamour and DJ beats in San Antonio
  • Address: Cami del Portixol, 2, Sant Antoni de Portmany, San Antonio

San Antonio, luxury style. Oku is a sleek Japanese-inspired five-star hotel just off San Antonio's hustle and bustle and a short walk from the beautiful Cala Gracio Bay and beaches. The farm-to-table philosophy is the common thread of all the gastronomic spaces of OKU, including the main event – the OKU Restaurant which is right next to the palm-dotted adults-only pool where you'll find some of the best DJs performing. Formerly of Sushisamba in London, Executive Chef, Mark Vaessen curates the menu here, inspired by the flavours of Japan, Asia and South America. It's a must-try, especially the omakase menu (we loved the tuna tartare which comes with crispy potato, fried egg and caviar) and can also be paired with sake or cocktails (don't sleep on the Umeshu Martini).

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANTS IN THE WORLD – Conde Nast Traveller

Leo’s Oyster Bar, San Francisco

Leo’s Oyster bar may sit in the hub of the city’s Financial District, but wander through its inconspicuous entrance and you’ll find and island-inspired design den that is straight out of the 1960’s. It’s a spot for Mad Men-style lunches of oysters, clams, shrimp and New England lobster rolls. But it’s the bespoke leafy wallpaper, glowing onyx bar and rattan furniture that are drawing a clued-in crowd from all over town. The secret weapon is the tiki bar out back, The Hideaway, which serves giant punch bowls of banana Daiquiri to share. The retro cocktail lounge has become the beacon of breezy indulgence for the banking set and way beyond – a place where one rum-and-amaretto cocktail can quickly spiral into four.

El Portalon, Dalt Vila, Ibiza

Head to the little hillside restaurant of El Portalon at sunset and it glows an extraordinary pink. Housed in a 600-year-old palazzo in Dalt Vila, this low-key spot is the work of American organic-tomato farmer Anne Sijmonsbergen, who kickstarted the Ibiza ‘s foodie revolution 13 years ago (encapsulated in her essential cookbook Eivissa). Championing all things seasonal and responsibly sourced, for her first restaurant she’s teamed up with restauranteur Justin Mallet and chef Filippo Alberi, both from perennially popular local hangout Babylon Beach Bar, and head chef Joel Bonino, of Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social. Opt for a table on the vine-smothered terrace and order the Catalan fried courgette with honey from Sijmonsbergen’s farm or the squid stuffed with spinach and sobrasada. If Babylon Beach is where the party usually ends up, El Portalon is the steal-away spot to start off in.

Liza Beirut

Beirut was once known as the Paris of the Middle East. Her beauty is still there, though you must look harder for it now. Your reward is to stumble on a jewel such as the Bustros Palace, a lavish 19th century townhouse. Liza Asseily’s restaurant Liza Beirut occupies the first floor. Its intricate interiors respect the past without being stuck in it – each light-flooded room is playfully themed according to its wallpaper of banana leaves, vintage banknotes or skyscrapers. The menu is classic Lebanese, impeccably executed. There are cooler parts of town, but Liza Beirut, in slightly stuffy Achrafieh, is an outstanding example of the growing confidence with which the city is embracing its cosmopolitan history while making it new, with style and a sense of humour.

Wanda Cafe, Madrid

Can a café sum up the mood of a city? Designer Parolio thinks his latest project, Wanda, does just that. The Spanish capital was hit hard by the financial crisis, but now fresh rays of optimism are peeking through, with funky new hotels and trend-tapping restaurants opening in a flurry. Nowhere is this positivity more visible than right here. ‘After the grey recession years I wanted to communicate the opposite: vitality, joy, colour’ says Parolio. Walls are painted ice-cream shades; fluorescent tones pop from the ikat motifs on cushions below photos of Californian summers. That new-wave healthy West Coast feel extends to the menu too: sea-bass carpaccio and lentil-and-tofu burgers with beetroot houmous. It gets more sinful after dark when bright young things sink frozen Melon Daiquiris. This day-to-night hangout is forging a fresh-faced revolution in the city, with organic market El Huerto de Lucas and juice bars such as the living-wall-covered Fit Food popping up all over town.

Ulu Cliff House, Uluwatu, Bali

The party scene in Bali has moved from Kuta to Canggu – via Seminyak . But surprisingly, it’s in the serious surf town of Uluwatu that the coolest beach club has just popped up. Ulu Cliffhouse is set over the Indian Ocean, with a huge infinity pool, access to the beach below and with it one of Bali’s most sought-after waves. Naturally, there’s an in-house surfboard sharper, but more exciting still is Peruvian chef Diego Muñoz in the kitchen. Formerly of Lima’s Astrid & Gastón (33 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list), he’s serving small plates inspired by his new home: the shrimp ceviche is cured in chillies from local farms; pomegranates from his kitchen garden add sweetness to the guacamole. The Beastie Boys played at the club’s launch and there’s an on-site recording studio. So head here to find music fans sipping mango Daiquiris with Balinese rum and surfers sinking home-brewed kombucha.

Vespertine, Los Angeles

Having worked at some of the finest kitchens in the USA – Alinea, French Laundry and Per Se – chef Jordan Kahn made his solo debut with LA ’s minimalist, much-loved Destroyer. His follow-up, Vespertine, is just across the road in Eric Owen Moss’s teetering Waffle Building. A lift deposits diners straight into the kitchen to meet Kahn himself, before being escorted to the rooftop to begin in the 20-something-course experience against the backdrop of a Culver City sunset. At a time when every other chef on the planet is raving about local ingredients, Kahn is doing the opposite: eat at Vespertine and you won’t know what’s on your plate, let alone where anything has come from. The otherworldly ceramics might bear bright red spinach or a slab of soft fruit laminated with sunflower petals, sparkling curls of something bright and white that turn out to be asparagus, or a fish dish with no sign of fish at all. The waiters, wearing uniforms seemingly inspired by The Handmaid’s Tale, are instructed to let guests puzzle through the menu by themselves. Kahn’s latest project is certainly the most controversial, talked-about restaurant among foodies right now.

But now gallery restaurants are upping the game with food that’s as creative as the exhibitions. For serious bragging rights, book a table at Otium inside contemporary art museum The Broad. Ex-French Laundry chef Tim Hollingsworth’s has a vegetable-driven menu spanning everything from Hamachi ribbons with nori to spinach bucatini pasta.

Shugaa Dessert Room Cafe, Bangkok

Pudding-only restaurants first became a thing in Melbourne , but now Bangkok café Shugaa is stepping up to the trend. Set in Watthana district, its interiors have been created by Thai studio Party/Space/Design and are an ode to the sweet stuff, with walls splashed in mint-green and candy-floss-pink stools. Reflecting the crystalline structure itself is a rose-gold hanging light sculpture and a spiral staircase made from clear acrylic blocks. Honey and passion-fruit-meringue tarts, dark chocolate and mint brownies, red-velvet sponge and matcha ice cream can be washed down with strawberry and lychee tea or chocolate milk with marshmallow crumble. Or get creative yourself with dessert- and fondant-making classes.

By day, it takes on the appearance of a beach restaurant, while at night, it transforms into a romantic haven.

Despite its elevated status, it retains the essence of a humble fish shack, serving Ibiza’s best paella and guisat de peix, the island’s rich rockfish stew, since 1983. Booking ahead is recommended to secure coveted beach beds for a post-lunch swim and siesta on the pebbly cove.

7. Casa Jondal

Jondal, Cala Jondal, s/n, 07839, Balearic Islands, Spain

The seafood-centric menu showcases the best of Ibiza’s marine harvest, served raw, cured, steamed, sautéed, or grilled.

Cala Jondal, S/n, 07800 Ibiza, Illes Balears, Spain

Nestled in the picturesque, white-pebbled bay of Cala Jondal, Yemanja seamlessly blends the rustic charm of an authentic Ibizan eatery with elevated Mediterranean cuisine.

Cocktails steal the spotlight, featuring a boat-bar stocked with homemade syrups and tinctures, elevating the drinking experience beyond the ordinary Mojito. The Spanish-influenced menu spans tapas and beach bites, including a standout quinoa salad, to heartier options like lobster fettuccini and salt-baked seabass.

Mains offer inventive combinations such as the K·OBA by UM burger, snapper with kimchi mayo, or the Iberian pork cut with apple sauce. Their sushi and sashimi menu offers a variety of options, including signature rolls like the ebi panko.

West Coast beach restaurants in Ibiza

25. el silencio.

Av. de Cala Molí, 30, 07830 Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Illes Balears, Spain

Nestled in the secluded cove of Cala Moli, El Silencio stands out as a multifaceted destination, blending a restaurant, beach club, and performance space. Founded by Arnaud Frisch, the Ibiza beach spot, opened in 2021, aims to bring together the global creative community in an atmosphere of individuality, connection, and freedom

The beach restaurant, led by three-Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco and television chef Federico Desseno, offers a menu rich in local Mediterranean flavors.

From vegetarian creations using Desseno’s clay-pot cooking techniques to the finest cuts of meat and fresh seafood, the dishes showcase the abundance of Ibiza’s local produce.

The poolside area, curated by chef Guillaume Sanchez, features a menu with pizzas, sandwiches, salads, and empanadas, complemented by special guest DJs, events, pop-ups, and art installations.

26. Cala Gracioneta

Carrer a Grasio, 5, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany, Illes Balears, Spain

Tucked away near San Antonio, this beach restaurant offers a cozy setting and serves delicious sharing plates, grilled meats, and freshly caught fish. With its quintessential Ibiza interiors featuring wooden tables and chairs scattered around the cove, it’s an ideal spot for lunch under the shaded canopy or a leisurely evening in the famed Ibicencan golden light with live music.

Drawing from Mediterranean classics and Spanish favorites, the menu features sharing dishes like Cantábrico anchovies, Iberian acorn-fed ham, Russian roulette padron peppers, fried calamari, and more.

Main courses include traditional Spanish rice dishes, Valencian-style grilled meats, salmon, octopus, and the catch of the day—all delivering an authentic Ibiza beach restaurant experience.

27. Ses Roques

07829 Platges de Comte, Balearic Islands, Spain

Perched above picturesque coves, Ses Roques offers a stunning setting for a sunset dinner. In the evening, the restaurant transforms into a romantic haven with candlelit tables, starry skies, and the vibrant hues of Ibizan sunsets.

The restaurant is renowned for its dedication to local ingredients, offering a menu that highlights the freshest seafood, organic produce, and traditional Ibicencan flavors.

Enjoy dishes such as perfectly grilled freshly caught fish, aromatic paella, and yummy desserts crafted from seasonal fruits.

28. Cotton Beach Club

Carrer Posta de Sol, C/ de Cala Tarida, 21, 07829, Illes Balears, Spain

Cotton Beach Club, established in 2014 by the Norwegian duo Christian and Merete Marstrander, elevated the secluded cove of Cala Tarida to a five-star Ibiza destination. Specializing in locally sourced ingredients, the menu features standout dishes with a focus on fish and seafood cooked in traditional styles.

The restaurant’s rooftop, Fay, offers Mediterranean and Asian cuisine, including a sushi bar, while the expansive terrace serves substantial dishes like chicken tacos and prawn yellow curry.

29. La Torre

Ctra. Cap Negret, 25, 07820 Sant Antoni de Portmany, Illes Balears, Spain

Perched on the rugged Cap Negret cliffs on Ibiza’s west coast, La Torre offers a stunning venue for sundowners and early dinners.

Eat here from breakfast, with options like açai bowls and poached eggs with avocado. Lunch and dinner feature seafood heavily, including grilled octopus, sea bass with an Asian twist, and calamari with traditional sobrasada. Don’t miss the quintessential sunset, enjoyed with a cocktail in hand.

Despite its somewhat secret status, La Torre’s intimate size requires reservations, especially during the summer. Winters offer a more relaxed atmosphere, though the cliffside terrace can be chilly.

30. Sunset Ashram

Carretera de Cala Conta, s/n, 07829 Sant Josep de sa Talaia, Balearic Islands, Spain

Sunset Ashram, much like La Torre, offers one of the best sunset views on Ibiza. While La Torre is rocky, Sunset Ashram is sandy, allowing you to run to the sea’s edge and watch the sun descend into the ocean.

The atmosphere carries a hippy vibe, and a serene hush precedes applause as the sun sets. The restaurant features three culinary sections: sushi, Indian-inspired, and Mediterranean.

The best restaurants and cafes in Kampala

By Scott Campbell

The Roots

Drawing influences from India, the Middle East and Africa as a result of Uganda’s historical trade routes, Kampala’s fast-growing food scene is easily home to some of the region’s best restaurants. Centred around upmarket neighbourhoods like Nakasero, Muyenga and Kololo, the capital’s spread of restaurants showcases international cuisine at its finest — albeit often with a distinctly local twist.

Rather than flitting between dozens of dining options in every genre, diners tend to flock to a core catalogue of spots that have long been known for their consistently high standards, be it for the full flavours of West Africa , the rich spices of Ethiopia, or hearty helpings of traditional dishes from closer to home.

Here are Condé Nast Traveller Middle East ’s picks of the best restaurants in Kampala .

Asian Fusion

Asian Fusion

The menu may be pan-Asian, but the standout dishes at this rustic open-air restaurant in the Fairway Boutique Hotel can be found in the extensive Indian section — locals rave about the curries and samosas, with many ardently insisting they are the best in the city. Start with the smoky paneer tikka, where marinated cheese melts in your mouth, or the sizzling hot chicken malai kabab infused with creamy spices. Main courses like the Goan fish curry, simmered in rich coconut gravy, and the chicken tikka masala, bursting with ginger and garlic, are highlights from a long list of options. Complement the classics with sides like fluffy cheese naan and aromatic jeera rice, then finish your meal with sweet Indian desserts like syrup-soaked gulab jamun and milky cardamom ras malai.

Address: Fairway Boutique Hotel, Kafu Road, Nakasero, Kampala

Bight Of Benin

Bight Of Benin

Bight of Benin

Come with friends and dig into bowls of buttery spinach sauce, utterly moreish black-eyed beans and feather-light puff puff balls to start, then feast on a spread of rich meat stews, whole tilapia flecked with sweet slivers of red pepper and fried spiced goat served by the kilo. This atmospheric restaurant, in a gated compound next to a thatched Ganda hut bar blasting bass-heavy Noughties beats, will quickly get you hooked on the full-bodied flavours of West Africa. The colourful 15-page menu features more than 100 dishes plucked from the region’s coastline, spanning from Cameroon to Cote d’Ivoire. The jollof rice, as hotly contested in Africa as hummus is in the Middle East , leans towards the Ghanaian version, shunning Nigeria’s sturdy long-grains for aromatic basmati simmered in tomato paste and a kitchen cupboard’s worth of spices. It drips with flavour, and goes with everything.

Address: Plot 20, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero, Kampala

Dancing Cup

Dancing Cup

This bustling community café is the go-to spot for big breakfasts and fusion specials that blend Asian and Italian flavours. Owned by a British expat who's made Kampala home, the garden is always buzzing with international visitors and locals catching up over sweet, citrusy Ugandan coffee and comforting slices of home-made cake. Don't miss the dense banana and chocolate bread – it's a crowd favourite – or the Kampala Road, offering a sub-Saharan twist on an American classic. Digital nomads tuck themselves away under the shady trees, while the outdoor verandah comes alive with local jazz trios plonking away on the baby grand piano, poetry slams and bring-your-own potluck festivals. Keep an eye out for the resident tortoises roaming the flower-filled grounds.

Address: 71 Luthuli Avenue, Bugoloobi, Kampala

Endiro Coffee

Endiro Coffee

You can find branches of Endiro Coffee all over the city, but the one just off Muyenga’s Tank Hill Road is best. Sheltered from the sunlight by a series of cavernous sloping rooftops made from warm eucalyptus wood, the popular café spills out into a breezy garden dotted with tables and chairs. Along with a strong selection of bakes served in gargantuan portions (ordering a single slice gets you a quarter of the whole cake), the kitchen turns out Ugandan rolexes fresh from the grill every morning, paninis full of local avocados and meats, plus zesty fruit salads that make use of juicy watermelons and pineapples from local farms.

Address: Plot 733, Tank Hill Road, Muyenga, Kampala

Ethiopian Village

Forget the menu at Ethiopian Village — perch by the traditional wicker mesob tables, order a platter, and let the kitchen work its magic. A painter’s palette of richly spiced stews and sautés arrives, soaking into a layer of sour, spongy injera bread that doubles as a plate and scooping utensil. The earthy dollops of lentils and meats may look similar, but each packs its own distinct explosion of flavour. Bright red berbere is the central ingredient — a fresh, fiery mix layering more than a dozen spices, toasted to perfect pungency. It’s stirred into simmering pots of chicken, shredded dabo firfir bread and marinated Nile perch to create a spread of vastly different dishes that’ll transport your taste buds straight to Ethiopia.

Address: Muyenga Road, Muyenga, Kampala

The Roots

Ugandan food has had little attention on the world stage. London has just three restaurants dedicated to the country’s cuisine and among New York City ’s 25,000 dining rooms there are none. Kampala is the ideal place to dig in. Head for The Roots to try traditional leaf-steamed luwombo stews and mashed matoke slathered in ash-pink groundnut sauce served as they’re supposed to be — without fuss and in interminably large portions. To lock in the flavours, the kitchen limits its use of salt, and completely shuns oil and artificial spices, relying instead on a smoky charcoal grill to cook most dishes. Sweet fried plantain is hidden away in the sides but is a must-order. For the best experience, skip the simple indoor dining room and go al fresco at the garden’s shaded tables in the shadow of Nakasero Hill.

Address: Plot 4, Kafu, Nakasero, Kampala

Yamasen Japanese Restaurant

Yamasen Japanese Restaurant

Kyoto-born Fumiko Miyashita, long captivated by Africa, moved to Kampala in 2014 and quickly set about launching one of the city’s first Japanese restaurants. The exceptional menu makes subtle changes to traditional dishes by making extensive use of organic local produce — one of the most popular is Ugandan cassava that’s simmered in dashi broth then fried, similar to the way potatoes are prepared in the south of Japan. The striking timber complex housing Yamasen, built by Miyashita herself, is also home to a branch of Endiro Coffee, a steakhouse and several quaint craft stores that sell handmade furniture and locally made trinkets. Never one for the quiet life, the entrepreneur is now working on supporting Kampala’s farmers in exporting their chilli peppers and shea butter to Japan.

The Best New Hotel Restaurants in the World

By Todd Plummer and CNT Editors

While we often celebrate our favorite hotels around the world, we rarely spotlight the spaces within the hotel that make the property shine. Often, these are the areas—the bars, the restaurant, the rooftops and more—that become destinations unto themselves, pulling in a devoted set of locals to help turn a hotel into a place that residents use, too. So, as an extension of our recently released 2024 Hot List of the best new hotels in the world, we are highlighting the best new hotel restaurants, spas, and bars, as picked by our editors. Below, the hotel restaurants that compete with the best places to eat, anywhere—and the dishes you can't miss.

Golden Poppy at La Fantaisie—Paris, France

Artistry, whimsy and a distinctly West Coast approach are all on the menu at beloved chef Dominique Crenn’s latest venture at the new La Fantaisie , a jewel-box boutique hotel in the heart of the 9th. The glowing yellow, Scandinavian interiors by Martin Brudnizki feel distinctly un-Parisian which, in a way, is extremely Parisian. The pescatarian menu takes advantage of the region’s best ingredients and techniques for a France-meets-California alchemy that just works.

The dish to order : A dry-aged whole sea bream, served with white asparagus and drizzled in orange beurre blanc.

Seafood takes center stage at Hotel Toranomon Hills' main restaurant, Le Pristine.

A pre-dinner cocktail at Le Pristine

Le Pristine at Hotel Toranomon Hills—Tokyo, Japan

There’s no shortage of chef-driven, acclaimed restaurants at high-end hotels around Tokyo, but this one stands out, thanks to Dutch chef and Michelin darling Sergio Herman. His prix-fixe menu at this minimal space with a beautiful big tiled bar inside Hotel Toranomon Hills , is an East-meets-West approach that makes brilliant use of Japanese ingredients, especially seafood. There are three-, four-, and five-course options available for dinner, or you can order á la carte for one of the better power lunches in Tokyo.

The dish to order : The signature Le Pristine lobster pasta, with handmade orecchiette, clams, squid, and fennel flower.

The Lowland restaurant at The Pinch hotel in Charleston puts an elevated spin on the Southern tavern.

Lowland at The Pinch—Charleston, SC

How many ways can Charleston’s food scene continue to reinvent Southern cuisine, you might ask? Turns out—at least one more, as seen at Lowland Tavern, a nouveau Southern spot from James Beard Award-winner chef Jason Stanhope inside The Pinch , a charming boutique hotel right on King Street. There are still those decadent touches that somehow taste better in a place like this (deviled eggs, biscuits slathered in farmer cheese and pepper jelly), but there are some more elegant and international turns to the menu as well, like chicken skewers dusted in Japanese furikake, or a banoffee pie that would make King Charles himself proud.

The dish to order: An impossibly crispy pork schnitzel, topped with golden beets and smoked roe.

Terrace Restaurant at Izza—Marrakech, Morocco

A 14-room riad in the heart of the Medina , with one of the most elegantly understated roof terraces in town and a killer restaurant, too? Color us interested. Other rooftops in town can feel a little nightclubby or hectic, but the one here is home to a restaurant that offers modern Moroccan fare with international influences—like a whole grilled stuffed sea bass with spiced couscous served in an aromatic langoustine bisque.

The dish to order : Check out the seasonal tagines, of course, but don’t sleep on the vegetables. There’s a charred cauliflower with spiced labneh and toasted buckwheat that’s out of this world.

Local dishes shine at the minimally chic Singular Restaurant at The Lodge in Mallorca

The menu at Singular Restaurant spotlights the island's access to excellent seafood

Singular Restaurant at The Lodge—Mallorca, Spain

On an island that most locals would agree has been transformed by tourism over the last several years, the new Lodge Mallorca offers a slice of tranquil paradise and a glimpse of the way things were. Located on 157 hectares within a UNESCO-protected area of the island, this refurbished 500 year-old farmhouse also offers some of the freshest, most unpretentious Mallorcan cuisine on the island. Pop by after partying in Palma for some pastoral penance and a dinner to remember.

The dish to order: Anything grilled over the open fire, but especially the catch “del día.”

Alfresco dining with a view at Riviera in Dubai's The Lana hotel

Riviera by Jean Imbert at The Lana—Dubai, UAE

Dubai doesn’t do anything small, so it tracks that the Dorchester Collection’s Middle East debut would feature a splashy chef. And who is splashier at this moment than France’s own Jean Imbert? Here, he channels the best of the French Riviera, with grilled seafood galore, a signature tuna tartare prepared at your table, and a goat’s cheese ravioli with zucchini blossoms that is almost too pretty to eat. Kick back, order some rosé, and take in the glittering glitterati as you overlook Dubai’s picturesque Marasi Bay Marina.

The dish to order: The creamy marinated cucumbers with herbs—simple, but so good.

Zaytinya at Ritz-Carlton South Beach—Florida

Following successful locations in New York City and Washington, D.C., James Beard Award-winning chef José Andrés brings his new vision of modern Mediterranean to Collins Avenue . Combining Greek, Lebanese, and Turkish influences, the menu spans shareable mezze, fresh seafood, and plenty of Mediterranean wines to wash it all down.

Nookies, a modern twist on the classic diner, at Silver Sands on New York's North Fork

Nookies has diner staples like burgers and shakes, but also oysters from nearby Pipes Cove

Nookies at Silver Sands Motel & Bungalows—Greenport, New York

A major renovation breathed new life into this iconic 1950’s North Fork motel , and luckily the twenty-two seat Nookies still captures all the nostalgia of a midcentury roadside diner. There’s still a tuna melt and decadent milkshakes on the menu, but there are some welcome additions to appeal to twenty-first century travelers, too.

The dish to order: The aubergine melt, on rye with globs of gruyère cheese, yellow tomato jam and Calabrian chili.

LAVO at The BoTree—London, UK

With locations in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Singapore, and Mexico City, Tao Group’s Lavo manages to feel as fun and relevant as ever with its latest opening at the BoTree in Marylebone. No detail is overlooked, whether it’s a tray of garnishes brought out to accompany your water, to decadent mounds of truffles atop the pasta, to expert sommelier pairings to enhance your experience. It’s one of the neighborhood’s larger dining rooms, but it manages to feel sceney and exuberant without being excessive.

The dish to order: “The Meatball,” which comes with 500 grams of Wagyu beef and Italian pork sausage.

The expansive dining room at the Global Ambassador's rooftop restaurant, Théa, has rare panoramic views of the Phoenix skyline, including vistas of Camelback Mountain and the city's downtown.

Théa at The Global Ambassador—Phoenix, Arizona

Named after the Greek goddess of light, Théa, the standout at a gleaming new resort with a food-focus, offers a truly transporting experience, because, as it turns out, a Mediterranean menu lends itself beautifully to a rooftop setting in sunny Phoenix. The flavors are big, but this bacchanal never skews overly indulgent: the kofta skewers are fragrant with sumac; the Moroccan roasted carrots come drizzled in Aleppo pepper honey; and the “Goddess of all Dips” platter is a perfect shareable platter if you’re looking to kick back with a spritz and watch the sun set.

The dish to order: A fresh and flavorful Spring Tabbouleh salad with pea tendrils, mint, pistachio dukkah, and preserved lemon vinaigrette.

Ethically sourced seafood is a highlight at the restaurant Fysh in The Singapore Edition

Fysh at The Singapore EDITION

“Lofty” is a great way to describe this new restaurant by multi-award-winning Australian chef Josh Niland inside the Singapore Edition . First, the decor: vaulted ceilings lend a sense of occasion, an abundance of greenery feels quintessentially Singaporean, and an expansive open show kitchen proves that cooking, too, can be a form of theater. Second, the menu: Niland offers a “modern-age fish steakhouse,” which treats ethically-sourced seafood with the same sense of scale, indulgence, and reverence as a steakhouse treats its beef. There are some “land-based proteins” on the menu, too, but the real stars are the swordfish and yellowfin tuna steaks, sourced from Mooloolaba, Australia and dry-aged (yes, you can dry-age fish) to perfection.

The dish to order: Murray Cod, sustainably sourced and grilled over charcoal, then finished with an Andean BBQ corn humita, coriander, and lime.

Il Ristorante - Niko Romito at Bulgari Hotel Roma—Italy

This is Rome done right, from the elegant dining room, to the sweeping views over the adjacent Mausoleum of Augustus, to the menu designed by Nico Romito, one of Italy’s superstar chefs. At the restaurant inside this Hot List winner, the menu offers through-and-through Italian classics that range from the familiar (a perfect spaghetti pomodoro) to the innovative (crispy suckling pig with orange caramel sauce). Sure, it will cost you—but can you really put a price tag on a perfect fine dining experience in the Eternal City?

The dish to order: Melt-in-your-mouth roasted tuna belly topped with a light and bright fennel and citrus salad.

This Phoenix restaurant was named among the best new hotel dining options in the world

conde nast traveller ibiza restaurants

Conde Nast Traveler released its list of The Best New Hotel Restaurants in the World on June 4, and a Phoenix restaurant made the cut.

As a companion piece to their list of best hotels in 2024, Conde Nast editors decided to focus on the hotel restaurants, stating that "we rarely spotlight the spaces  within  the hotel that make the property shine."

Thea, the rooftop restaurant at restauranteur Sam Fox's The Global Ambassador was listed shoulder to shoulder with restaurants in hotels in Paris, London, New York and Mallorca. The hotel, which also made it to the Hot List of the best new hotels of 2024 , opened in December 2023 and is is Fox's first foray into hotel business.

Thea's Mediterranean menu reflects a collection of favorite dishes from Fox's travels to Europe, with a focus on lighter fare like Burrata di Bufala ($18) served with pesto, milled tomato, pistachio dukkah and arugula. Or a collection of dips ($13 each) like whipped ricotta with stone fruit and urfa honey and hummus topped with olive oil, za’atar and green zhoug. Mains include sushi ($18-24), flatbreads ($17-24), pasta ($26-38) and grilled meats like steak, lamb chops and salmon ($38-87).

The dish that wowed Conde Nast's editors was the Spring Tabbouleh Salad ($18), made with ancient grains, stone fruit, pomegranate seeds, snap peas, cucumber, mint and a preserved lemon vinaigrette. They called it "fresh and flavorful."

The 15 best things to do in Ibiza

By Chloe Sachdev

Ibiza old town

Beyond the hippy days and techno raves, the best things to do in Ibiza can be attributed to the island's staggering natural beauty of windswept beaches, coves, rocky red cliffs and pine forests. Spend your days swimming and snorkelling, hiking or renting a boat to explore hard-to-reach bays. Away from the beaches, visit the cute villages and town squares that make this Balearic Island beat, each with its unique vibe but full of local cafes, restaurants and shops. With a Phoenician settlement founded in 654 BC, much of the island is steeped in history, with UNESCO heritage sites of ancient settlements dotted around. Spend some time traipsing around Ibiza Town, a labyrinth of bustling shops and restaurants with an ancient past seen in its cobbled stone streets and castle that looms large over the island. Here, we share a snapshot of things to do in Ibiza, including what to see and explore to get to know this mythical island.

Best things to do in Ibiza

View of Ibiza Town

Visit Dalt Vila and the castle of Ibiza

A World Heritage Site, Dalt Vila (Upper Town) is Ibiza Town’s old quarter. It’s located above Ibiza Town inside a magnificent ancient fortress with Renaissance town walls, cobbled stone streets and tight alleyways. Originally built to defend the island, it’s now a charming labyrinth of bustling restaurants, bars and shops such as  Annie’s Ibiza  (a favourite amongst the fashion set, including Kate Moss when she’s in town) and  La Oliva . This cheerful restaurant spills out on to the cobbled stones. Visit during the evening to see this old part of town at its liveliest.

Shopping in the old town

Go shopping

Pound the pavement around Ibiza Town for a wonderful hodgepodge of shops. Start at the newly pedestrianised boulevard of Vara De Rey, shopping at haunts like  Ruta Market , a colourful store selling affordable fun fashion. Here, you’re also surrounded by high-street stores like Massimo Dutti, Mango and Zara. Head inwards along the winding streets of Ibiza Town for a pick‘n’mix of high and low international and local fashion, including local Balearic label  Charo Ruiz . Pick up a traditional straw basket from Can Vinyes, one of the oldest basket weavers on the island, now in its third generation. For vintage finds, stop at Holala Ibiza for all manner of thrift ware, or head to  Vincenta Ganesha , a treasure trove of collectable vintage, including the original Paula’s Ibiza. Further towards the port and around the marina is where the glitzier shops live – Dior, Loewe, Dolce & Gabbana, etc.

Santa Gertrudis in ibiza

Visit the villages

Make time to visit the little villages that make up the heart and soul of the White Isle, each with its own distinct vibe. Santa Gertrudis, in the island's heart, attracts well-to-do boho-chic families and is filled with lovely restaurants, bars and stores selling perfectly fringed knick-knacks and organic cotton floaty dresses. Further east are San Carlos and Santa Eulalia. The former resembles a beautiful time-warped village with bright white buildings and an 18th-century church. Visit Bar Anita, a traditional Ibizan café that has remained unchanged since the 40s. To the west are the villages of San Jose and San Antonio. The latter may be famous for its all-out party scene, but it also has some of the island’s most stunning beaches and sunsets. South of the island, you’ll find the charming villages of Es Cubells, Sant Francesc and Sant Jordi, which have free open-air film screenings in the town square throughout July and August. Head north to Es Portinax, a tourist-heavy town now with hotels like the ultra-luxury Six Senses Ibiza and eclectic Los Enamorados. Don’t skip San Miguel, a quaint village with a cute selection of bars, restaurants and cafes, including Can Xicu de sa Torre, an old-school wooden Ibicencan bar.

Best things to do in Ibiza in 2023

Go clubbing

In Ibiza, there is a club for everyone. For a glitzy time, head to  Club Chinois . For dinner and a cabaret, book a table at  Lío.  Get your rave on inside an old airline hanger at DC-10, which attracts the all-black techno-set. Daytime party-goers should head to  Ushuaïa ,  Destino  and  Cova Santa , or for a thumping super-club experience, visit  Hï  and  Amnesia . Then, of course, there's the one that started them all:  Pacha . It was the first club on the island, and it still pulls in a crowd from first-timers to loyal gig-goers, depending on the night. The hippy market Las Dalia now boasts one of the most exciting clubs on the island,  Akasha , featuring a roster of local and international DJs, an impeccable sound system and an intimate crowd (max 300-capacity space).

Best things to do in Ibiza in 2023

Visit the hippie markets

The hippie markets are a lovely little portal into Ibiza’s unique happy-go-lucky culture.  Punta Arabi  at Es Canar is the oldest and biggest market on the island. It’s held every Wednesday and Friday with over 500 stalls. The legendary colourful hippy market in San Carlos,  Las Dalias , is open from Saturday to Tuesday. Every Sunday, the little village of Sant Joan plays host to its cute market with organic food, crafts and clothes stalls and live music. For something more traditional, head to San Miguel Artisan Market. There are only a handful of stalls held every Thursday, but there is traditional Ibizan folk dancing and live music.

beach in Formentera

Visit Formentera

Only 45 minutes by ferry and often referred to as Ibiza’s little sister, Formentera has a lower-octane vibe. Here, life is about taking it slow. Swim off the red rocks at Caló des Mort or enjoy spiked lemonade pomadas with your toes in the sand at ramshackle kiosks that dot the beach like Kiosko 62. Rent a boat and head to Espalmador Island. Part of the Natural Park of Ses Salines of Ibiza and Formentera, it’s an uninhibited white-sand sliver of paradise surrounded by bluer-than-blue water. Or head for a long lunch at one of the many beachside restaurants such as Beso Beach , Juan y Andrea , or Casa Pacha Formentera .

Isla de Es Vedra Ibiza

Rent a boat and visit Es Vedrá and its surrounding coves

Es Vedra, the uninhabited islet that rises from the ocean, is part of the legend of Ibiza – some say its magnetic powers draw people back time and time again. Rent a boat at Cala d’Hort or Cala Tarida and make a day of it, visiting the mythical rock and surrounding coves, such as the magical Atlantis, a quarry-like rock structure opposite Es Vedrà. Or, if the conditions are ripe, kayak from Cala d’Hort to Es Vedra.

Cala Salada beach Ibiza

Visit the beaches

There are hundreds of beaches in Ibiza. Here are a few island favourites. About 10 kilometres southwest of Ibiza Town, you’ll find the specular red rock cliffs of Sa Caleta (Es Bol Nou) beach. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring the ruins of an ancient Phoenician settlement. Just 2 kilometres from Ibiza Town is Talamanca Beach. Its soft sand strip is dotted with low-key restaurants, cafes and the high-key Nobu Hotel. For old-school magic, head to Salinas Beach and walk to  Sa Trinxa  restaurant, where the Balearic beats spill onto the sand. The wild and windswept shore of Cala Conta in San Antonio boasts some of the best sunsets on the island and is also home to the iconic  Sunset Ashram . Equally spectacular is Cala Salada with its Listerine-blue water and slabs of red rocks, which are sprinkled with suntanned bodies in high summer. Northwest, Cala Benirrás Beach attracts hippies and families for its famous sunset drum sessions. Up north, snorkel around the rocks of the stamp-sized beach of Cala Xarraca, before finishing up at the chiringuito.

Hiking in Ibiza

Go for a hike

One of the best ways to experience the beauty of Ibiza is by foot. Like beaches, there are hundreds of hiking routes to choose from. Here are some of the scene stealers. Sa Talaia is the highest mountain in Ibiza. At 475 metres high, you can start the trail from the church of Sant Josep, through the beautiful countryside before taking in a 360-degree view of Ibiza. Up north, The Moscarter Lighthouse is a rocky hike that starts from a small cove in Portinax and leads you cliffside until you reach the 52-metre high summit. Or, take an intermediate hike from Cala Salada to San Antonio, which takes you past spectacular beaches such as Cala Yoga and Gracioneta. To curate your hikes and outdoor adventures, contact specialist agents and/or guides such as  Rockid .

Best things to do in Ibiza in 2023

Visit some art galleries

The last few years have seen a boom in Ibiza’s art scene. Near the salt village of Las Salinas beach, you’ll find Le Nave Salinave . It’s an old salt warehouse turned gallery by NYC-based art collector Lio Malca – past blockbusters include an immersive Keith Haring exhibition. Wrapped in the town walls of Dalt Vila, inside an old bunker that served as an armoury, is Museu D’art Contemporani D’Eivissa (MACE). It’s a contemporary art gallery dedicated to modern work, some international and others with an Ibizan connection. Down a rocky path near Jesús is Espacio Micus , a space that started as a workshop in the 70s by abstract artist Espacio Micus. After his death, his daughter Katja turned the space into a gallery that exhibits contemporary artists alongside her father’s original work. In San Antonio, inside the eye-catching hyper-eclectic hotel Paradiso is ADDA Gallery . Founded by Anna Dimitrova, this gallery has all kinds of quirky fun installations that play with light and colour. On the San Juan road, stop at Lost Artist Ibiza farmhouse-turned-Ibiza-studio of British artist Christopher Stone, featuring his signature bronze sculptures.

Horse around

Explore Ibiza’s spectacular countryside on horseback. The White Isle has unique riding companies dotted around the island – from the mountains to the beaches – such as North Ride Ibiza and Ibiza Stud in Santa Gertrudis. For those wanting to give back, try Ibiza Horse Valley – a not-for-profit sanctuary that saves from abandonment or mistreatment. The refuge, located in a 40-hectare canyon, is to gently rehabilitate the horses, allowing them to live in a herd in a close-to-wild setting. Once physically ready, the horses re-enter the riding world. With a herd of about 17 horses, half-day group excursions are offered all year round through the mountains and valleys in the north of Ibiza. All riders from all levels are welcome.

In Ibiza, dancing and movement don’t just happen in a club or after-hours. Sober dance parties and movement circles on the White Isle are practically part of the mainstream. For those wanting to lose themselves in dance and connect with others in a safe space, check out the Ecstatic Dance Ibiza Tribe and their timetable of events in various locations with killer sound systems and DJs. For those wanting to have more of a workout, check out Primal Moves . Now a global phenomenon, Primal Moves was started in Ibiza by Nick Brewer, a former prisoner who uses the movements of yoga, pilates and full-body locomotive patterns to form this bendy cult workout.

Look inside

Ibiza is well-known as the capital of alternative new-age therapies, with many believing the island has a unique healing energy. There is something for everyone, from shamans to chakra healers and everything in between. Six Senses Ibiza is fast becoming known as a luxury wellness HQ, with retreats throughout the year that bring together the best of the best from around the world for talks, classes and reflections. Jeremie Quidu is on every yogi's speed dial for those wanting private group classes and specialises in everything from sound meditation and crystal therapy to healing circles.

Discover the unique flora of the White Isle at Ibiza Biotechnological Botanical (also known as Bibo Park). One of Europe's most technologically advanced botanical gardens, there are over 30,000 plants on-site that range from rare to medicinal and even musical (the world’s first ‘vegetable piano’ lives here). The park is dedicated to biotech and interesting on-the-go experiments, such as plant-powered biological batteries for smartphones and a drinkable H2O machine that allows you to drink water straight from the sky. Away from the science, it’s a space to promote the general ecology of the area – there are pine forests to zen out in and loads of activities on offer, such as guided tours, seed planting, and bird watching.

Cala Benirras Beach Ibiza

Find your inner hippy

What started as a peaceful anti-war protest in the ’90s still gathers peace lovers and hippies to Benirras beach every Sunday to dance and beat drums to the rhythm of the spectacular sunset. Everyone is welcome, and during high season, you can expect hundreds on the beach, all dancing hypnotically as the sun slips below the horizon.

By CNT Editors

It’s inevitable: every spring when we pull together the Hot List, our annual collection of the world’s best new hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, a staffer remarks that this latest iteration has got to be the best one ever. After a year’s worth of traveling the globe—to stay the night at a converted farmhouse in the middle of an olive grove outside Marrakech, or sail aboard a beloved cruise line’s inaugural Antarctic voyage—it’s easy to see why we get attached. But this year’s Hot List, our 28th edition, might really be the best one ever. It’s certainly our most diverse, featuring not only a hotel suite that was once Winston Churchill’s office, but also the world’s largest cruise ship and restaurants from Cape Town to Bali. We were surprised and inspired by this year’s honorees, and we know you will be too. These are the Hot List hotel winners for 2024.

All listings featured in this story are independently selected by our editors. However, when you book something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
