The fees for all permanent residence applications increased on April 30, 2024. If you paid your fees before April 30, but have not yet submitted your complete application, you will need to pay the difference .

You can pay your fees in different ways depending on the fee type and where you are paying from. Answer the questions below to get payment instructions.

Family sponsorship

Citizenship, inadmissibility, other applications and services, temporary residence, electronic travel authorization (eta), international experience canada.

The International Experience Canada participation fee increased by $5 (from $156 to $161) on December 1, 2022.

Study Permits (including extensions)

Temporary resident permit, visitor visa (including super visa) or extend your stay in canada.

To be eligible to pay the maximum fee of $500 (in Canadian dollars):

• family members must all apply at the same time and same place
• your children must qualify as dependants

Work Permits (including extensions)

Work permit maximum group fee: To qualify, you must be a group of three or more performing artists and their staff, and apply at the same time and place.

If you also need visitor visas (temporary resident visas), you still need to pay for them individually. For visitor visas, the group fee only applies to families.

Permanent resident cards

Your permanent resident (PR) card can only be delivered to an address in Canada. If you are outside Canada and don't have a valid PR card, or if your card is lost or stolen, apply for a  permanent resident travel document  to return to Canada.

The Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship may grant permanent resident status to an inadmissible foreign national based on humanitarian and compassionate or public policy grounds.

Protected person

Right of permanent residence fee.

For most permanent residence applications, you need to pay the right of permanent residence fee (RPRF) when your application is approved. You will have to pay it before you can become a permanent resident.

You can pay the RPRF at the same time as your application fees to avoid delays. If we approve your application before you pay it, we will contact you to explain how.

We will refund the RPRF if you withdraw or we refuse your application. The RPRF is the only fee that we can refund after we start processing your application.

The RPRF does not apply to:

• the dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor
• sponsorship applications for adopted children
• sponsorship applications for an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild or
• protected persons, including applicants eligible on humanitarian and compassionate grounds and convention refugees.

Note: If you are applying under the Family Class, you can pay your fees when the sponsor files the sponsorship application.

Parents and grandparents

Spouse, partner or children (abroad), spouse, partner or children (in canada), citizenship - application fees, other citizenship fees and services, authorization to return to canada, rehabilitation, repay your removal expenses.

If you are a citizen of certain countries or territories, you have to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) when you apply for a:

• visitor visa
• study permit or
• work permit.

LETTER OF INVITATION IN THE MATTER OF VISITORS TO CANADA ​ To, Canadian High Commission Immigration Section New Delhi, India Date: 04-Dec-2023 Subject: Invitation Letter for Visitor Visa Application Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing this letter in support of the Visitor Visa application for my parents, Mr. xxx & Mrs. xxx, who intend to visit me and my wife, xxx, in Canada from 19th April 2024 to 06th May 2024. I am a citizen of India and currently residing in xxx, Ontario, with my wife xxx and we both hold work permits in Canada. I am a full-time working as an IT Consultant at xxx earning an annual salary of $xxx, as substantiated by the attached recent salary stubs. Hi, Posting my queries here since a new thread is still under review! Me and my wife are PR holders and working with a family income of 160k. We want to apply vistor visas for our parents. My wife's mother is a widow and retired with no fininacial assets back home. Wife is the only child. So, she will be applying with an invitation and sponsor letter from my wife stating that we will be covering her expenses for the trip. We both have jobs with three years of tax returns in Canada, so we can submit our bank statements, pay slips and tax returns for financials. The proposed stay would be for two weeks. Wife will be filling and submitting the application using mother in law's account. But just wondering, 1. Is there a high chance of rejection? (as I have seen quite a few cases even with good financials back home rejected) 2. Is there anyway we can justify regarding going back home as I see the major problem can be lack of ties which we cannot help! It is what it is. 3. Should my wife sign as a representative or just submitting a sponsor letter is enough? 4. Should we instead consider just straight away going for supervisa (ties still a problem?) or sponsoring PR? My parents situation is similar in terms of being retired and ties, although I have a working sister back home and have some properties and house.

Thank you for your response. Just wanted to update that we took a shot by applying visitor visa for my Mother in law. In her application we mentioned that her stay ( 2 weeks) will be financially supported by my wife and me. As supporting documents we submitted a notarized invitation letter saying we will cover her expenses and attached both our tax returns along with 3 months joint bank statements and salary slips. She did not have any assets back home nor any significant Bank statements so we did not submit any from her end. She got her biometrics done on 3rd January and got passport submission letter on 12th January! Now we are wondering if we should just go the same route for my parents too just to keep it simple as they are also not working. Or is it better to still include proof of assets (house, land etc) and their bank statements too!

Update: My Parents got their visa approved on 11 Jan, and passports have been submitted to VAC. I removed my mother' Ankle surgery part in the final letter. Feel free to use the format above, and keep the file as simple as needed. Good Luck!

Thanks TiniTan28 I used the new portal, as I heard its processing time is quite quicker than the GCKey. This was true in my parent's TRV processing, so I suggest going with the new portal. Link: https://portal-portail.apps.cic.gc.ca/signin?lang=en Hope this helps!

Categories of people eligible for family immigrant visas

How to apply for permanent residency for a family member

To sponsor your family member, submit a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Form I-130 . Each person you sponsor needs a separate Form I-130. You can submit the form online or by mail.

The process for your relative to immigrate to the U.S. requires that both you, as the sponsor, and your relative, as the visa applicant, complete the necessary steps.

The process is different depending on whether your family member is already in the U.S. or abroad.

The Secretary of State, following consultations with the Department of Homeland Security, has determined that the following categories of interview waivers are in the national interest.  Changes based on that determination are implemented by consular officers, who now have the authority and discretion to waive the in-person interview for:

• First time H-2 visa applicants (temporary agricultural and non-agricultural workers); and
• Were previously issued a nonimmigrant visa in any classification, unless the only prior issued visa was a B visa; and
• Are applying within 48 months of their most recent nonimmigrant visa’s expiration date.

In all cases, applicants must meet certain legal requirements to qualify for an interview waiver.  Implementation of this authority begins January 1, 2024, and will be reviewed annually.  This authority is in place until further notice.

As a reminder, applicants renewing a nonimmigrant visa in the same classification within 48 months of the prior visa’s expiration date continue to be eligible for interview waiver until further notice. 

To be eligible for an interview waiver, applicants must also meet certain criteria, including that they:

• apply in their country of nationality or residence.
• have never been refused a visa (unless such refusal was overcome or waived).
• have no apparent or potential ineligibility.

Consular officers may still require in-person interviews on a case-by-case basis or because of local conditions.  We encourage applicants to check embassy and consulate websites for more detailed information about visa application requirements and procedures, and to learn more about the embassy’s operating status and services.
