Senior golfers will eventually run into a need for distance on the golf course. Inevitably, clubs become too stiff, too heavy, and your game suffers because you’re not as long off the tee as you used to be. That’s why using a driver that’s suited to your current game is vitally important. We've put together this list of the 10 best drivers for seniors and explain what makes each driver so beneficial to your distance and accuracy.

10 Best Drivers for Seniors

The 10 drivers that we’ve chosen are based on personal testing and feedback received from senior golfers. There’s a mix of manufacturers with varying price points, which was not necessarily done by design but is convenient in the way it worked out. After looking over this list, hopefully, senior players who are looking to get into a new driver that suits their game will know that plenty of options exist.

What Makes Drivers Best for Seniors?

Not all drivers are created equal. Some are designed for players who swing over 105 mph, while others are built for golfers with swing speeds in the 80s and low 90s. All, however, are designed to provide the optimal launch conditions for  somebody . By utilizing lofts, shaft weights, and shaft flexes that squeeze every yard out of moderate swing speeds, these drivers are the best for most senior golfers.

RELATED:  The Best Golf Balls for Seniors of 2023

Driver loft for seniors is critically important because the right loft helps get the ball in the air with little effort. Perhaps you’ve played a driver with 9.5 degrees loft up until this point. If you swing speed has declined (and data proves that as your age increases beyond your 20s and 30s, your swing speed decreases), you should use a driver with at least 10.5 degrees.

Many manufacturers now offer 12-degree drivers for the same purpose. If you’re unsure what loft is right for you, many drivers feature an adjustable hosel so you can finetune your loft as your swing evolves.

Shaft Weight

Many standard driver shafts are between 55 and 65 grams, but that's too heavy for most senior swing speeds. Shafts intended for seniors are around 45 to 50 grams. A lighter shaft allows you to swing the club faster, which results in more ball speed, and more distance.

Many 45 to 50 gram shafts are senior flex shafts. Depending on the manufacturer, a senior flex shaft is typically indicated as an “SR” or “A” flex. A more flexible shaft for your slower swing speed allows the driver to get into the correct position in your backswing and at impact.

Playing a shaft that's too stiff for your swing speed results in lower ball flight. You should aim for a launch angle between 12 and 15 degrees  and if you're launching it too low, there's a good chance your shaft is too stiff, too heavy, or both.

Best Overall: XXIO 12

XXIO 12 Driver

  • DESCRIPTION XXIO 12 Driver

Let’s get this out of the way. The company name is pronounced ZEK-SEE-OH. Now that we have that down, let’s take a look at GolfLink’s best overall driver for seniors, the XXIO 12 . As the premium sibling of the Cleveland/Srixon family of equipment, XXIO is known for making clubs that fit slower swings and produce incredible distance.

“We all love that new club feeling, but there’s no feeling quite like swinging XXIO 12 for the first time,” said Noelle Zavaleta, PR and Social Media Marketing Manager for the company. “The lightness, the speed, and the remarkable ease are perfect for moderate swing speed players and make a world of difference, right out of the box.”

We agree. There’s something about your first few swings with the XXIO 12 that feels significantly different than any other driver we tried. That feeling is premium craftsmanship, showcased in every inch of this driver. Some players with faster swing speeds may test out of this model, but for the majority of seniors and slow to moderate speeds, this driver is what you’ve been looking for.

“This driver is easy to swing fast, it’s a whole lot less strain on your body, and it’s one of those rare-but-wonderful club purchases that instantly changes how you play the game,” added Zavaleta.

The XXIO has been engineered to have advanced aerodynamics, and you’ll also read that it has Rebound Frame, which is also found in Cleveland and Srixon clubs. This technology allows the face to flex more at impact, so you feel a distinct pop when you catch a drive around the sweet spot. It’s on the expensive side, yes, but the benefits of the XXIO 12 for senior players cannot be denied.

  • Great ball flight
  • Satisfying feel at impact

Titleist TSR2 Driver

Titleist TSR2 Driver

  • DESCRIPTION Titleist TSR2 Driver
  • SOURCE PGA Tour Superstore
  • PERMISSION Permission given by PGA Tour Superstore

Released in late 2022, the new TSR line of Titleist drivers includes the Titleist TSR2 , our pick of the lineup for senior golfers who use the whole club face, and want a driver that launches easily with low spin.

With the TSR2, your worst drives just got a whole lot better. Titleist created a new face with a multi-plateau design for the TSR2. This gives the driver hot spots all across the club face, rather than just in the center, so even when you completely miss the center of the face, you’ll hardly notice a distance drop off.

Forgiveness across the face is paired with ball flight improvements with the TSR2. Titleist moved the CG lower and more forward to make this driver easier to launch higher with less spin, which increases distance.

While Titleist was busy making a fast and forgiving driver, it didn’t stray from its bread and butter, a sleek-looking, confidence-inspiring product. Titleist calls the shape of the TSR2 “player preferred” and the mostly-black club head with subtle accents leaves no doubt it’s a Titleist through and through.

  • Forgiving club face for great distance across the face
  • Player-preferred, confidence-inspiring look
  • Four stock shaft options with no up-charge, many more available for an additional cost
  • Top end of the price spectrum even with no shaft upgrade

Callaway Epic MAX Star

Callaway Epic Max Star Driver with badge

  • DESCRIPTION Callaway Epic Max Star Driver with badge

Callaway released its Epic line back in 2017 and it became one of the biggest golf product launches in recent years. The Epic driver was in amateur and professional bags everywhere with everyone talking about Jailbreak Technology. Fast-forward to 2023 and Callaway continues to build upon the Epic success with new drivers such as the Epic MAX Star. This driver is 52 grams lighter than the standard Epic MAX that’s currently available. So, if you’re a Callaway fan but find the Epic to be too heavy, it's time to consider  the Callaway Epic MAX Star .

The standout feature on this driver, for us, was forgiveness. Dispersion on toe and heel shots was significantly better than the standard Epic driver, in fact it was the best among all the drivers in the senior category. We even had a few toe shots draw back into the center, which was impressive. The A.I.-designed Jailbreak Speed Frame is an internal structure is great for distance, and it also keeps the driver head stable throughout the swing.

Speaking of distance, the Epic MAX Star produces a lot of it. Callaway’s Flash Face technology allows for an extremely thin face which feels great at impact and provides effortless loft. The sliding weight track on the rear of the driver head also allows you to tune the bias from fade to draw, or neutral.

  • Maximum forgiveness
  • Appearance with gold detail
  • High launch

Wilson Launch Pad 2

Wilson Launch Pad 2 Driver with Badge

  • DESCRIPTION Wilson Launch Pad 2 Driver with Badge

Wilson's Launch Pad lineup was so well-received that it has now reached its next generation with the Launch Pad 2 . True to its name, the Launch Pad is a rocket off of the tee and effortlessly launches the ball into the air. That's why the Launch Pad 2 is a great choice for an all-around driver that will help senior players.

With a draw-bias, the Launch Pad 2 has slice forgiveness that you can actually feel. We also like that at address, the offset is subtle and the look is confidence-inspiring. While the look is great, the direction and dispersion are even better. The stock Evenflow shaft from Project X is light and promotes tighter dispersion and ideal launch. From our first swing, we noticed how the ball got up nice and high, even on swings we slowed down. Players who still pack a more moderate swing speed should consider the 9 or 10.5 degree head to avoid ballooning drives.

Distance-wise, the Launch Pad 2 fell right into the middle of the pack. For slower swing speeds, ball speed numbers are likely to be better than any driver specced for a 100 mph swing or more. This driver is light and versatile to produce your ideal distance numbers. For seniors looking for a great value driver to fit their game, the Launch Pad 2 is a steal at $300.

  • Tight dispersion
  • Easy to hit too high

Cleveland Launcher XL Lite

Cleveland Launcher XL Lite with badge

  • DESCRIPTION Cleveland Launcher XL Lite with badge

Cleveland Golf’s Launcher series has endeared itself to countless golfers, of all skill levels, for quite some time. If you ever owned a Launcher driver you’ll know that it always outperformed its price tag, which has always been very reasonable. Sticking with tradition, the Cleveland Launcher XL Lite is only $229, although it plays like some drivers that cost more than twice as much.

The Launcher XL Lite is not adjustable, which will be a non-factor for some and a big deal for others. The fact is, if you’re looking for a lighter driver, the bonded head helps eliminate 12-grams of weight, which helps you swinging this club faster. If you held all the drivers on this list in a row, you’d likely notice the Launcher XL Lite has the largest head. While it has a 460cc head, the way that the weighting is distributed and the aerodynamic design gives it a larger appearance.

If Rebound Frame sounds familiar, that’s because you read about it in our best overall selection, the XXIO 12. The same technology is in the Launcher XL Lite, but with different variations of materials. The pop you feel at impact, though, is strikingly similar to the XXIO 12, which costs about double the Launcher XL Lite.

  • Low, deep weighting
  • Easy to align
  • Great feel at impact
  • Less forgiving on shots hit low on the face

Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Lite

Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Lite with badge

  • DESCRIPTION Cleveland Launcher XL Lite women's driver

The Cleveland Women's Launcher XL Lite is designed specifically for slower-swinging ladies who seek the lightest-weight driver in order to maximize swing speed and distance off the tee.

The women's edition comes standard with 12-degrees of loft in the head, a ladies-flex Project X Cypher 40 shaft, and a Winn Dri-Tac Ladies grip. Each of those components assists distance by saving weight and promoting higher launch. The Ladies edition is also 44.25 inches long, compared to the 46-inch men's version.

At under $250, the Women's Launcher XL Lite is not only our top pick for senior ladies, it's a great value driver that offers an option for every golfer looking to get the most out of their swing speed.

PING G430 HL MAX

PING G430 driver

  • DESCRIPTION PING G430 driver

Distance and forgiveness. That’s what PING is known for, and nestled in the newest PING driver is the G430 High Launch MAX , which continues that legacy in a club specially designed for players who’ve lost some swing speed over the years. The High Launch build includes lightweight head, shaft, and grip options for maximum speed. In fact, in PING’s testing, slower swing speed golfers gained nine yards with the High Launch setup.

The G430 HL MAX is adjustable all over. For starters, it includes a lighter, 11-gram rear weight that can be slotted into draw, fade, or neutral positions to manipulate shots left or right between settings. For comparison, the standard G430 MAX utilizes a heavier 25-gram weight.

RELATED: Tested & Reviewed: PING G425 MAX Driver

The hosel is also adjustable, not only giving you loft options up or down 1.5 degrees from the standard setting (available in 9, 10.5 and 12), but allowing you to adjust the lie up to 3 degrees flat.

In addition to a lighter backweight, the PING G430 HL setup includes the Alta Quick shaft, and the light, 41-gram Lamkin UTx grip. The HL build is available in the MAX and SFT (Straight Flight Technology) editions of the PING G430 driver.

  • Maximum adjustability
  • Designed from head to grip specifically for golfers with slower swing speeds
  • Excellent distance
  • Lighter rear weight yields less influence than the 25-gram weight in the standard G430

XXIO X Series

XXIO X Driver with Badges

  • DESCRIPTION XXIO X Driver with Badges

The XXIO X driver should not be confused with the XXIO 12, which won our best overall driver for seniors. While it's made by XXIO, the target audience for the X driver is highly skilled, moderate to higher swing speed players. Seniors who still take much younger players’ money on the course should look at the X to get into those pockets even more.

The XXIO X is offered in lofts of 9.5 and 10.5, which should be the first indicator that it’s not intended for seniors who need help getting the ball in the air. With that said, sticking with XXIO consistency, we had no trouble getting the ball up even with the 9.5-degree head. This driver produces the most penetrating ball flight of any other on this list, which appeals to the better player who does not want to lose yardage by hitting the ball too high.

For distance, this driver appeals to seniors because of its larger sweet spot. It allows for slight misses on the heel and toe, but going too far one way or the other results in some significant drop off in yardage, as to be expected. In our opinion, the XXIO X is the ideal solution for the better senior who prefers a more player-type driver.

  • Large sweet spot
  • Penetrating flight
  • Ideal for moderate to high swing speeds
  • Not intended for slow swinging seniors

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523

Tour Edge E523 driver

  • DESCRIPTION Tour Edge E523 driver
  • SOURCE Golf Galaxy
  • PERMISSION Permission given by Golf Galaxy/Dick's Sporting Goods

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 is the latest Extreme Game Improvement driver from Tour Edge to earn founder Dave Glod’s “easiest driver you will ever hit” praise.

Tour Edge prioritized optimal launch and accuracy with the E523, incorporating its Houdini Sole, which boosts forgiveness and improves launch by shifting weight low and deep.

The Ridgeback crown helps with alignment and acoustics, simultaneously promoting straighter shots and drawing attention to them. The heel weighting also assists straighter shots, fighting the slice that plagues so many golfers.

The Hot Launch E523 is available in three lofts, 10.5, 12, and the high-launch 15-degree version. Perhaps one of the most impressive elements of the entire package is the price. At just over $250, this driver is half the price of most of the other drivers in this category and delivers optimal performance designed for golfers with slower swing speeds.

  • Easy to hit
  • Dollar-for-dollar, the best driver in the Senior category
  • Lifetime warranty from Tour Edge
  • Heel-weighted to fight a slice
  • No adjustability

Cobra Air-X OS

Cobra AIR-X OS Driver with badges

  • DESCRIPTION Cobra AIR-X OS Driver with badges

Cobra does a great job at sneaking in the game with some really good technology and clubs that truly perform. It’s easy to forget about Cobra in the world of Titleist, Callaway, PING, and others, but when you have big hitters like Bryson DeChambeau and Lexi Thompson sporting the equipment, it’s a reminder that Cobra cranks out some high-quality equipment.  The Air-X driver from Cobra is a club we highly encourage all seniors to demo, because the results will surprise you.

This driver is effortless to swing but doesn’t take the clubhead weight out of the equation. The Air-X is available in offset (OS) or straight neck versions, and the straight neck version allows you to shape draws and fades, if that’s how you like to get around the golf course. If you’re in need of slice-fighting assistance, the offset version produces a nice consistent right-to-left ball flight for right-handed golfers.

Like many drivers on this list, Cobra makes off-center strikes less worrisome as the sweet spot is extended north, south, east, and west of center to allow you to swing fast and freely. The top design is very clean with easy alignment, nothing overdone in that area which is a pleasant surprise. For a game that’s difficult enough as is, the Cobra Air-X driver brings a little extra fun back into play.

  • Offset and straight neck designs
  • Off-center misses
  • Would like to see more roll after landing

Choosing the best distance driver for seniors is important to gain yards off the tee and reduce the length of your approach shot.

With this in mind, our senior testers found that the Callaway Ai Smoke Max Fast is the best driver for golfers over 50 searching for more length. The club was fast on the downswing, and the face was forgiving, leading to fast ball speed, high launch, and consistent distance for slower swing speeds.

In this guide, I also cover drivers like the Cobra Aerojet, Cleveland Launcher XL2, and Ping G430 Max 10K. Our team tested 15 drivers with senior flex shafts and higher lofts but found these four flew farther without impacting forgiveness.

🥇Overall Best Distance Driver For Seniors

Paradym ai smoke max fast.

Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast

The testing team and I were skeptical of the Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast because of the abundance of buzzwords thrown into the title, but wow, we were humbled. Callaway did their research with this club. It increases clubhead speed for slow-swinging seniors and improves forgiveness for the average golfer.

The Ai Micro Deflections were key to maintaining power on mishits. They reduced the spin rate and preserved ball speed on heel and toe strikes,  encouraging a high launch and longer distance. Drives with the Ai Smoke Max Fast out flew and rolled the other drivers we tested.

It was more than its distance and forgiveness that impressed our testing team. The overall consensus from our team is that the Paradym Ai Smoke is the best-looking and sounding driver tested this year. Despite the positives, it is not perfect because it carries an eye-watering price tag and does not suit fans of a low launch.

🤑 Best Value Distance Driver For Seniors

Cobra aerojet driver.

Best Budget

best tour edge driver for seniors

The Cobra Aerojet is the predecessor to the Cobra Darkspeed, and we felt the older version has better value for money. Since it’s a season old, the price of the Aerojet has dropped, and it is now an affordable option, which is worth considering if you are on a budget.

The Aerojet was among the longest drivers we tested in 2023, performing well against the newer releases. Our testers reported that the clubface was flexible, and the sweet spot was wide on the driver, which helped them produce impressive distance even when they missed the center.

Our team of testers loves the Aerojet for its affordability, distance, forgiveness, and adjustability. They also liked the look and premium finish better compared to the newly released Darkspeed. The Cobra Aerojet is built for a neutral ball flight, which is not ideal for seniors with a slice addiction. Instead, I suggest draw bias drivers, like the Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast .

  • Excellent value for money
  • Generates long distance
  • Adjustable driver loft for seniors
  • Premium finish
  • Not the best slice-fighting driver

🚀 Highest Launching Distance Driver

Cleveland launcher xl2.

High Launch Driver

Cleveland Launcher XL2

A lightweight shaft, a gigantic head, and a low center gravity saw the Cleveland Launcher XL2 launch the highest drives among our testers. Once the ball was in the air, it sat there for what seemed like minutes before descending.

The carry distance was impressive on this driver. However, it restricted roll, which is something to consider if you play in constant wind. If you live in a crazy windy city like Amarillo, Texas, you might prefer a lower launching driver than the XL2.

Our testers were in awe of the forgiving nature of the driver, which stems from its extra large sweet spot and slightly offset face. We love the Launcher XL2 for a slow senior swing speed, as it will give you the acceleration, power, and support to consistently get the ball in the air.

Despite its many positives, our team was not impressed with the glare off the crown of the driver, which could be detrimental to players with sensitive eyes.

  • High launching design
  • Forgiving oversized head
  • Large sweet spot
  • Too reflective
  • Reduced roll

🙏🏼 Most Forgiving Driver for Seniors

Ping 430 max 10k driver.

Most Forgiving

Ping 430 Max 10K Driver photo by Senior Golf Source

Consistent launches, high flight, and reasonably accurate results made the Ping G430 Max 10K the most forgiving driver for seniors. The majority of our testers lost minimal ball speed on heel and toe shots and contained spin, which resulted in consistent distance and helped the ball to hold its line in the air.

Ping added more moment of inertia (MOI) to the head of this driver to encourage you to hit straighter drives. While our team was unable to hit every shot straight, they were impressed with the resistance to flying offline, but the ball still ended in the rough on a couple of occasions.

The Ping G430 Max 10K proved more than just a forgiving big stick, which is why we loved it. That famed ping sound rang out every time the metal face connected with the ball, which makes purists weak at the knees. The clubface further impressed with its low spin and high-speed design.

Our only area of concern is the exorbitant price tag attached to the driver, but a premium product comes at a cost.

Tip : Ping 430 Max 10K HL (high launch) is a good alternative for senior players needing a bit more launch.

  • Outstanding forgiveness
  • Generates high flight
  • Minimizes curve in the air
  • Adjustable design
  • Pricey driver for the average golfer

What To Consider When Buying A Distance Driver For Seniors

best tour edge driver for seniors

Price: Distance drivers for senior golfers range from $300 to over $600 new. If you are on a budget, I recommend looking at older edition drivers , which perform up to the standards of new releases. The Cobra Aerojet is a prime example of an affordable, high-performing, older driver.

Loft: Senior golfers are better off with a higher lofted driver, like a 10.5 or 12-degree design. During testing, we adjusted the hosel of a 10.5-degree and weakened it to 11 degrees. The higher loft makes it easier to launch the ball high and long.

Senior Shaft Flex: A shaft flex for senior golfers is lighter and more flexible than a regular or stiff shaft. The added flex provides additional speed and power on the downswing to improve energy transfer. Optimized energy transfer leads to faster ball speed and less spin for a longer drive.

Forgiving Clubface: An active clubface with a wide sweet spot helps you increase ball speed and lower spin from the heel to the toe. The forgiving design delivers consistent distance and accuracy, despite your mishit like the Ping G430 Max 10K did for our testers.

Launch: If you are launching your ball lower than expected, you need a higher lofted driver with low CG. The increased weight in the sole of the driver encourages a high launch, even on mishits, just as we experienced with the Cleveland Launcher XL2.

How Far Do Seniors Drive The Ball On Average ?

Arccos and Golf Magazine gathered driving distance data from thousands of amateurs. The longest hitters are seniors aged 50 to 59 with scratch handicaps or better. These players hit the ball an average of 251 yards,  35 yards further than a middle handicapper of the same age.

The shortest senior hitters are 30-plus handicappers aged 70 to 79. Golfers in this bracket average 157 yards off the tee box.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far should a 70-year-old golfer hit the ball.

A middle handicap 70-year-old golfer should drive the ball 195 yards on average. They suggest that this is an average result for a golfer with a swing speed of approximately 75 mph, which is where most seniors fit in.

How can a senior driver get more distance?

A senior golfer can get more driver distance by following these five steps: 1. Use a closed coil swing 2. Optimize your shoulder and hip rotation 3. Use a lighter driver 4. Play with a senior flex shaft 5. Use a driver that has a low CG and promotes a high, consistent launch.

What degree driver is best for seniors?

For slow swing speeds, seniors should use a 12-degree driver or higher for the added launch. This helps produce a consistently high launch for optimal carry distance off the tee. However, some senior golfers with faster swing speeds may still use 10 to 10.5.

How to increase driver distance for seniors?

Seniors can increase driver distance by playing with lightweight, forgiving and high lofted drivers and a flexible seniors flex shaft. These components increase your swing speed and power on the downswing to improve ball speed and lower spin. Fast ball speed and less spin lead to a high launch and increased carry distance.

Final Thoughts

After rigorous testing and discussions, the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast is the best distance driver for seniors. The shaft was light and fast, while the clubface was wide, forgiving, and rebounded quickly for a high launch and maximum carry distance.

The driver is priced at a premium, making it a serious investment. But, its performance and durability will perform for years to come. However, if you are looking to keep expenses down, I suggest the affordable alternative of the Cobra Aerojet.

Callaway Golf 2022 Rogue ST Max Driver (Right Hand, Cypher 40G Shaft, Light Flex, 12 Degrees Loft)

  • Long off the tee with low spin
  • New high-launch technology for straighter drives
  • Fast ball speed from AI Designed Flash Face
  • Improved launch angle with minimal chance of slices
  • Easy to hit
  •  A stronger player may require a stiffer shaft
  •  Upper price level
  •  Internal draw bias in the head not for golfers who prefer to hit a fade
  • Head material: Graphite
  • Shaft material: Cypher 40G
  • Loft: 10.5 °, 12 °

With a February 2022 release date from Callaway, you can be sure that this club is the most advanced driver on the market. Callaway is known as the leader in A.I. tech and innovation. The smart AI technology developed in this latest model will please Callaway fans, both young and especially old. Color me impressed, that’s for sure.

Over the years, I’ve found that drivers are all about achieving maximum distance, and the new Rogue ST produces long, straight, high-launch drives by decreasing ball spin off the face.

I really noticed the new AI-designed Flash Face Rouge ST that promotes faster ball speed at contact and compensates for any off-center strike, thereby retaining distance and making my shots look amazing. This feels closer to the TM SIM driver, the undisputed champion of forgiveness these days.

The super-strength clubhead design and materials are lighter than titanium to produce a consistent ball speed. That said, an internal draw bias may make the Rogue ST not the club of choice for golfers who prefer hitting fades.

This lightweight driver screams more ball speed, especially for golfers with mobility needs who struggle in that area. You may require a stiffer shaft for older golfers (which we will all be one day) who have a little more strength behind them.

Unfortunately, Callaway isn’t known for their high-quality stock shafts, so I recommend getting fit and spending the extra few bucks to get something that matches your swing exactly.

Slow-swing speed golfers or elderly golfers in search of a senior driver should take advantage of this new technology. This advanced Callaway engineering makes the ST Max Driver the best golf driver for seniors to keep their game consistent.

TaylorMade SIM MAX-D Driver, UST Mamiya Helium 4 Shaft, 12.0 Degree Loft, Right Hand, Senior Flex

  • Revolutionary new shape
  • Faster clubhead speed and more distance
  • Twist Face Technology with a slightly larger face
  • Ultra-low CG optimizes COR
  • New shape not for all
  • Head material: Titanium
  • Shaft material: UST Mamiya Helium 4

The TaylorMade SIM 2 MAX is my top pick for the most forgiving driver for elderly golfers; I noticed less drag and greater clubhead speed through the ball.

A rear weight increases the MOI for more forgiveness on mis-hits. Twist Face Technology with a slightly larger face area provides straighter shots consistently, regardless of age.

These factors specifically make the Taylormade MAX-D the best driver for a senior golfer who needs extra forgiveness on their drives. The downside here is that this newer tech gives the club a distinct, advanced shape that may not be for the golfers who prefer the classic feel.

The multi-material construction, with carbon, steel, and titanium, allows the weight to be positioned precisely in the head for low CG and high MOI. Each head is calibrated to its maximum legal limit. The 2-degree Loft Sleeve allows for customized face angle and ball trajectory adjustment.

Unlike other adjustable drivers from the competitors, this setup is the easiest to use while still providing a wide range of options.

All of these features add up to make an incredibly forgiving senior driver. This could be the perfect club for you if you know you’re prone to a few slices. If you can dole out the extra cash, the Taylormade MAX-D is well worth it.

Want more forgiving driver options? These are the most forgiving drivers on the market.

MAZEL 12 Pieces Men's Complete Golf Clubs Set or Individual Golf Clubs - Titanium Driver,#3,5 Fairway Wood,Hybrid,#4,5,6,7,8,9 Iron & Pitching Wedge,Golf Putter (# Single Driver)

  • Great value for money
  • Choice of colors and head upgrades
  • High rebound cup-face design
  • Doesn’t compare well to the premium senior drivers
  • Shaft material: Graphite
  • Loft: 10.5 °

If you want to spend a little less than you would with the Taylormade but you still want to improve your game as a senior golfer, the MAZEL Titanium is one of the best senior golf drivers to add to your set of clubs.

I’m starting to get to the age where I don’t want any more club changes or fancy technology; I just want a simple club that will get the job done. You’ll be pleased to see this driver here if you can relate. Not many people know this because it’s not a big name, but I assure you, it gets the job done just as well as any other big stick.

I was surprised at the distance and forgiveness of this budget club. With an engineered wedge, it offers incredible ball speed off of its speed channel. The result? A steadier performance with crisp ball speed.

The larger sweet spot allows you to take advantage of this extra speed and distance, even if you’re a little off-center when you strike the ball.

While this lacks some of the features of the more expensive clubs, such as adjustability and maybe some styling points, it’s still one of the best drivers for seniors in 2024 if your budget is tight.

Pinemeadow Golf PGX Offset Driver, Left Hand, Black/Green

  • Extremely inexpensive
  • Anti-slice technology
  • Not available with a seniors shaft
  • Only available in 10.5-degree loft
  • Head material: Other

I love golf for its simplicity sometimes, and if you share that sentiment and want to make golf as easy as possible, then have a look at this no-frills driver that is the best driver for seniors on a budget.

Many of the senior golfers I work with have difficulty relinquishing their stiff or regular flex shaft in favor of the “seniors” flex. But with this driver, you won’t have to, as the regular flex is designed for slower swing speeds. Other companies provide much stiffer shafts that are labeled ‘regular.’ PGX has taken the opposite approach, and my students are much happier because of it.

What really made me include this driver what the exaggerated offset. I’ve not seen many clubs with such an embellished design, so if slicing is your problem, let me introduce you to your solution.

Although great at curing slices, it may take some getting used to. Its unique look can be off-putting to some golfers, but that’s the price you might have to pay to keep your ball from slicing into the next fairway.

It’s very hard to argue with the value this club offers. I also really liked the protective head cover included, sourced from genuine leather. While not the most popular name on this list, PGX is unapologetic about manufacturing drivers that will help cure your slice to lower your scores. And for that, I have a lot of admiration for them.

Taylormade Stealth 2 Plus Driver 10.5 Mitsubishi Kai'li Red 60 Stiff Right Handed

  • Good aerodynamics and low drag
  • Highly forgiving
  • Speed and distance
  • OptiFit Adjustability
  • Distance could be better
  • Not as much adjustability as some would like

TaylorMade produces some legendary drivers, and their STEALTH 2 PLUS is a great option for seniors. It is perfect for distance but not quite as good as the MAX (my number 2 pick). Yet, most golfers appreciate the consistency and accuracy of the STEALTH. The low spin will also benefit most seniors.

You can expect a decent trajectory and fair consistency with the Stealth 2 Plus as it has a large and forgiving 460cc head. This filled me with confidence at address before I even put the ball on the tee. It is easy to hit and will not allow mishits to stray too far off course.

The technology used in this driver is impressive. The speed-injected intelligent crown minimizes drag and allows for greater swing speed. This will result in more distance without any added effort on your part.

The aerodynamic design adds to seed and distance, making this a long-hitting driver. However, I noticed it didn’t achieve the same distances as the SIM MAX; the reduced turbulence offered by the speed step design adds to greater accuracy and consistency.

TaylorMade has incorporated its legendary Twist Face Technology. This produces fast ball speeds across the face for distance, accuracy, and forgiveness. The 2-degree loft sleeve adjustability allows for choosing 8 lie and loft settings according to your swing and style.

The graphics are quite dramatic and, while rather stylish, might not appeal to the more conservative golfer. The Stealth 2 Plus driver is fast and long, but some might want more cold-hard distance

cobra-aerojet-max-driver

  • Good distance
  • Accurate and highly forgiving
  • Multiple adjustment options
  • 360° Aero Tips for improved aerodynamics and higher clubhead speed
  • Some players found the graphics distracting at address
  • While forgiving, the spin causes mishits to lose distance

A popular and high-rated driver for seniors is the Cobra AeroJet MAX Driver. It is a feature-rich driver that’s as fast as it is long. Cobra has created an ultra-thin CNC precision-milled face; this feature makes it incredibly speedy and accurate.

Another feature that I love improves clubhead speed for greater distances is the perimeter 360 Aero-Innovative Polymer Aero Tips. Engineered to reduce drag, the Aero Tips make the clubhead more aerodynamic and, therefore, faster.

The Carbon Fiber crown is superlight for optimal weight positioning and higher clubhead speeds. This is something that many other drivers are using, but it seems Cobra has incorporated it better than them.

My favorite part about this club is the draw-biased weight which makes a huge difference in correcting those banana slices that many seniors struggle with. I also tend to slice my misses, but they were barely noticeable with this club.

Keep in mind that, for the Cobra, the designed forgiveness can sacrifice a bit of distance due to ball speed, while some of our testers found the rather “loud” graphics on the club a little too distracting.

PXG 2022 0211 RH 12 Driver - L

  • Ideal for moderate swing speeds
  • Provides maximum launch and distance
  • Solid sound and feel at impact
  • Budget-friendly
  • Boring visuals

Not to be confused with the PGX driver, PXG is a premium company with top-tier products that also come with top-tier pricing. While this is a much higher-quality driver, some seniors may not want to shell out so much for one club.

The PXG 2021 0211 driver has a classic shape with proven aerodynamics and clubhead speed and is ideal for moderate swing speed senior golfers.

The deep, face-centered CG launches the ball easily. The driver is lighter than most competitors, and the 460cc head inspires confidence over the ball with decent forgiveness. It definitely has a classy and professional feel that is noticeable compared to other drivers of lesser value.

The new Ti412 face promotes faster ball speed across the face, and a decent amount of distance is maintained on mis-hits. I found that these optimum spin levels produce straighter tee shots and the confidence to hit more fairways.

These drivers perform well in all conditions and sit well at address. The traditional solid sound and feel-through impact are something not to be missed. That said, this club is everything and then some for traditionalists; the boring visuals may turn off senior golfers looking for a little more flash.

CG Launcher XL Drv 10.5 R RH

  • Sits well at address and is a confidence builder for all skill levels.
  • Easy, high launch creates carry and distance.
  • The great shaft fitted to this driver adds accuracy and control.
  • 4-loft options available: 9, 10.5, 10.5 Draw, and 12 degrees.
  • Well priced.
  • No hosel loft adjustment.
  • Not a leading brand, but good value for money.

I remember when the Cleveland Launcher Driver was released in 2021, thinking it won’t make any waves in the golf industry; boy, was I wrong. The performance has often exceeded the purchaser’s expectations (including mine). The latest model has recently received many accolades from golf equipment experts and other reviews.

Known as one of the top wedge manufacturers, their available products have slowly grown, and this new driver will surely put a smile on any senior’s face. Probably one of the most underrated drivers on the market; it will suit all skill levels.

Cleveland has excelled at adding a full range of high-tech to the driver. A re-designed HiBore Crown added to the Turbocharged Cup Face, and an Ultra-light Hosel gives the 460cc head a confidence-inspiring and powerful look, while the shaft fits great to the driver, adding an additional sense of control.

The head sits comfortably at address, and its stability and control make it easy to hit. The large sweet spot on the face adds forgiveness to the mis-hit tee shot without sacrificing too much distance. It feels a bit clunky compared to other drivers, but the results speak for themselves if you can get used to it.

The launch angle is improved with a deep weighting sole pad and a counterbalanced Miyazaki C. Kua shaft developed for Cleveland. What’s more, you have 4 loft options available: 9, 10.5, 10.5 Draw, and 12°, perfect for a wider range of senior golfers.

Testing this driver on the range should be fun, and the accuracy and distance are nice bonuses.

rogue st max driver

Slower swing speeds need assistance in the form of a greater launch angle. While adjustability is handy, it isn’t essential, provided you select a driver with the correct angle. The slower your swing speed, the more launch angle you need.

The right shaft is important for all golfers, particularly for senior players with a slower swing speed.

There are three main factors to consider for slow swing speed drivers:

A. Shaft Weight

A lighter shaft will allow for higher clubhead speed off a slower drive swing. Modern materials allow for ultra-light shafts that will help you maximize your driving speed.

B. Shaft Flexibility

More flexibility in the shaft will benefit slower swing speeds. Most drivers have a range of shaft flex options , so select the one that suits your swing speed. A specific senior shaft choice will generally suit most golfers in this category unless you have managed to maintain a fast swing speed.

C. Shaft Length

While longer shafts potentially deliver greater distance, they also reduce control. There is no perfect balance. It entirely depends on you and your own individual swing. Take the time to study your swing style as well as swing speed to determine the ideal shaft length for your game.

Again, this will vary from player to player. A lighter driver head—or really a lighter club—generally translates into higher clubhead speed and, therefore, more distance.

However, optimal head weighting also affects your launch and contributes to the driver’s forgiveness.

Check out this fascinating study to read about how proper weight distribution, flexibility, and your ability to maintain proper balance benefits your golf game.

Spin is beneficial but can also work against you. A very high spin will result in a ball going too high without achieving great distance.

Not enough spin makes for a poor launch with reduced distance. Finding the right balance between your speed and style is key.

For loft, because you’re likely working with less mobility and an impaired ability to generate top, competitive clubhead speed, a higher lofted driver will be what we’re looking for.

Anywhere from 10.5-12° is going to be your friend, as a higher lofted driver will help you easily achieve carry distance while simultaneously creating an optimal launch angle.

Adjustability is not essential but can be a handy feature for many senior golfers. It will allow you to dial the club into your specific speed and style.

Do not forget to consider the size and quality of the grip. This will help you to maintain control of the club. The larger your hands, the bigger the grip you will need.

As with all golf equipment, your budget has to be considered. Any spending on a driver will result in sacrifice on other equipment. Quality drivers are costly, but they will help you improve your golf game. So it’s a good idea to invest in a decent product for years .

All but the very best golfers want a forgiving driver . Even experienced seniors will benefit from a forgiving head. Some drivers are designed for greater forgiveness, so select the one that suits your game.

Deciding on the loft of the driver is a personal choice, unfortunately, we often make the cardinal error of selecting too little loft. Loft is the golfer’s friend, and the older we get, the more loft should be put into play. Senior golfers lose clubhead speed in the swing and adding loft will get the ball airborne more easily, producing more carry and distance. Loft from 10.5 to 12-degrees is the optimum range for seniors. Playing golf regularly in the wind should be a consideration, but still select a 10.5 as the lowest loft.

Besides increasing the loft on the driver, selecting the correct shaft flex will increase distance and accuracy. Graphite is ideal, and a senior or regular lite shaft composition will do the trick. Playing a softer compression golf ball will also add those extra meters off the tee. Loft from 10.5 to 12 degrees is the optimum range for seniors. Playing golf regularly in the wind should be a consideration, but select a 10.5 as the lowest loft.

Playing a softer compression golf ball will add meters to the tee shot, without trying to overpower the ball. There are plenty of golf balls on the market with compression as low as 38 and others in the region of 70. They have a soft feel off the club and are great off the tee, as well as good around the greens.

We all swing the driver differently, and clubhead speed determines how far the ball will travel. Natural strength and age are variables, but hitting it around the 200-meter mark is above average. For the older seniors, 150-meters should be celebrated!

Aim for a loft driver between 10.5 to 12 degrees to make the launch easier. Seniors tend to experience a decrease in swing speed and overall flexibility compared to younger golfers. This can make it challenging to generate enough clubhead speed to generate a high, competitive launch.  A driver with an easy, repeatable launch with 10.5-12° in loft is perfect for seniors to achieve a higher launch angle with less effort.

A respectable swing speed for a golfer that's over 60 is around 71-79mph. Keep in mind everybody’s different, and what may be considered good for you may not be good for someone else.  To improve your swing speed, choose a lightweight driver that allows for control and flexibility over the shaft, balanced ball spin, a higher loft angle, as well as ample forgiveness through your stroke.

Older players should opt for a tacky grip as grip strength is reduced. A tacky grip will provide you with better traction to reduce slippage while also allowing you to relax in your applied grip pressure so that you don’t experience any muscle fatigue/soreness or general inconsistency in your swing.

You should focus more on getting the right shaft than just the driver. Make sure you have a seniors flex graphite shaft to get the most out of the slower swing speeds. With that in mind, the Callaway Rogue ST Max performed as the best driver for distance in our extensive testing and through our research process.

We believe the Callaway Rogue ST Max is the all-around best driver for senior golfers. With an easy-to-hit, AI-designed flash face that supports faster ball speeds, an improved launch angle, and equipped high launch tech, this is the best golf club driver for seniors looking to continue playing well into their golden years.

A draw bias in drivers refers to the club’s center of gravity shifting more toward the heel. With a draw-biased driver head, the reference point is altered, where a center-facing contact reacts to the “toe side” of the center of gravity; this is where you’ll find spin generated. How much draw-spin your shot creates is going to be based on how much the center of gravity has been shifted, therefore determining how great or how slight draw biases are.

Drivers for seniors will benefit older golfers, and you have plenty of options to choose from. But one driver stands out as the champion. The Callaway Golf Rogue ST Max is an exceptional tool for a slow swinger and is the best driver for seniors on the market today.

It ticks all the right boxes regarding speed, distance, and forgiveness. It is a quality driver with a confident, aspiring, and appealing look. It delivers an effortless loft and is also great value for money.

That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right driver for you. Consider your game, your needs, and your budget, and take a look at our entire list of the best drivers for seniors to make an informed decision.

Distance Matters! The 5 Best Drivers for a Senior

Regardless of age, everyone likes to hit it long and straight, right? Personally, I think it’s half the reason that we play this addicting game, we want to prove to ourselves that we can still hit bombs. There isn’t a much better feeling than making a great swing on your driver and seeing it pierce through the air and end up in the short stuff.

Thanks to advanced technology for seniors (and all players for that matter) , age doesn’t matter like it used before. Now, there is a huge selection of golf clubs and specific shafts designed for the senior player in mind. Hitting it long and straight has never been easier.

So what is the best golf driver for a senior golfer?

In this post, not only will you learn the best drivers for seniors but also how to decide which driver is right for your game.

Our Pick for Best Senior Golf Driver

  • Callaway Great Big Bertha – Best Premium Driver for Seniors
  • Taylormade Stealth 2 HD – Also Very Good Driver for Senior Golfers
  • Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Draw Driver – Best Value Driver for Seniors

5 Factors For Picking the Best Golf Driver For Seniors

Before diving into the latest and greatest technology, let’s break down the biggest factors that go into purchasing a new golf driver.

( Not quite ready for a senior driver? Head to this article instead. )

Forgiveness

The first thing to consider when choosing a new driver is the overall forgiveness . Always ask yourself, how big is the sweet spot on this thing before buying? Ultimately, you want a driver that has a ton of forgiveness and allows your mishits to still be very playable.

The worst thing you can do is get a driver that is hard to hit and has a small clubhead. When your tee offs are short or constantly in the rough, the game only gets harder. Instead, make sure your driver has a large sweet spot and plenty of forgiveness for those off center hits.

Forgiveness is almost directly correlated to clubhead size so make sure to look for 460cc (the largest allowed the by the USGA).

The second thing to think about is distance .

As you get older, your speed naturally decreases, which means it’s harder for the golf ball to travel or roll as far. Luckily, technology is reversing the aging process and making clubs that are easy to hit and still carry a long ways.

Phil Mickelson just joined the Champions Tour and is hitting it 340+ yards at age 50! Sure, Phil is God among us amateur golfers but you get the point, technology matters.

Your driver should give you tons of confidence and still allow you to hit it long and straight, regardless of age.

Next, you want to think about the loft of your driver .

While most standard men’s drivers are between 9-10.5 degrees, senior drivers usually have an extra degree or two of loft. The additional loft makes it easier to improve the launch angle even with a lower swing speed.

Too many senior golfers try to use the same loft they did in their 30s or 40s and their game suffers. Instead, opt for a driver that has at least 11 degrees of loft or more. While you might need to adjust your fairway woods based on your new driver loft, it’s well worth it.

Having the right amount of loft will help you hit it higher off the tee and ultimately longer as well. Plus, a lot of the drivers on this list also allow you to adjust the loft with a club wrench so you can test out different loft for performances.

Shaft Flex

Another factor that so many senior golfers skip out on entirely is the shaft flex. In terms of shaft flexes, there is lite (sometimes called senior), regular, stiff, and extra stiff.

Playing the wrong shaft flex is another mistake so many seniors make. Too many senior golfers try to keep playing a regular or stiff shaft , instead of opting for a senior flex shaft.

Senior flex shafts work great for golfers with a lower swing speed and help get the ball airborne. While it plays the biggest role in drivers, it’s also something that you want to think about with your irons as well.

If a driver shaft flex is too stiff, you’ll likely find it hard to square up the face and suffer a lot of wayward drives.  Don’t let your ego win when deciding between a regular or senior flex shaft !

Adjustability

Finally, don’t forget about the adjustability of your driver.

Some golfers love to be able to slide weights, add/remove weights, and adjust lofts. This is 100% personal preference but it’s something that you should think about before investing in a new driver.

No need to worry about grip as you can always add on your favorites to any driver for a few bucks.

Best Drivers for Seniors

Best Golf Driver For Seniors

Now that you know what to look for in your next driver, let’s jump into the best golf driver for seniors on the market:

1. Great Big Bertha Driver (Best Premium Driver for a Senior Golfer)

Losing out on precious distance as you get older isn’t fun but Callaway has a solution. While the new Pardaym drivers are some of the best out there, they might not be great for all senior golfers as they’re a tad heavy. But don’t worry, there is an alternative from Callaway with the  Great Big Bertha .

The Great Big Bertha drivers put Callaway on the map decades ago but their newest driver is a hit for senior golfers. The secret to this driver is the incredibly lightweight design.

Here’s how Callaway described it,  “This easy-to-swing driver is engineered with an ultra-lightweight design for unmatched distance characteristics. It’s nearly 30g lighter than a tour driver, and it’s an ideal option for golfers who want to increase their swing speed.”

best tour edge driver for seniors

That’s right, 30 grams lighter than most drivers!

But don’t worry, you won’t lose out on any accuracy either thanks to the Jailbreak Speed Frame which provides a ton of stability. Even if you gain speed with the light shaft/clubhead, you’ll still find the short grass with horizontal and torsional stable frames. That means longer and straighter drives every time you pull out the driver.

Aside from being lightweight and accurate off the tee, it’s also super forgiving thanks to the high MOI (moment of inertia) characteristics. As Callaway said,  “To increase MOI, our engineers paired a lightweight Triaxial Carbon Crown with a Forged Carbon Sole. With all this discretionary weight, our engineers moved the CG lower and deeper to enhance forgiveness while the steel soleplate makes it easier to hit a draw.”

This club is also great because it has an adjustable hosel which isn’t that common with lightweight, senior drivers. Normally manufacturers eliminate this as it adds extra weight but you can still adjust loft, lie, and flight settings (draw, neutral, or fade).

The final benefit to this senior driver is the incredibly lightweight shaft – the  UST Mamiya Helium Nanocore IP . This 50-gram shaft (regardless of which flex you choose) is high launching thanks to the low kick point. Paired with multiple loft options (including a 12-degree driver head) you should have no issue getting this ball high to optimize distance.

  • Adjustable hosel.
  • 460 cc forgiving head.
  • Three loft options available.
  • Right and left-hand options.
  • Semi-draw bias to help straighten out that slice.
  • 12-degree only available for right-handed golfers.
  • Only one stock shaft (which is common for ultra lightweight clubs).
  • Expensive – this new driver costs even more than the Paradym drivers which aren’t cheap to begin with.

Overall, it’s a good way to help you offset some distance losses even if the price is higher than most drivers. Everything about This driver also comes with a Winn Dri-Tac grip which is one of the most comfortable for seniors.

The lightweight club and shaft make this a great option for senior players who don’t want to lose out on precious distance. Plus, the adjustability makes this a great club to fit perfectly for your swing tendencies.

2. Taylormade Stealth 2 HD Driver

As you know by now, golf is easier when you can hit it longer and every yard counts. But if you’re like a lot of senior golfers you might be losing a few yards over the past few years. However, I think the new TaylorMade Stealth 2 HD driver might get you back to hitting it longer than ever.

If you played the TaylorMade Stealth from last year you know these clubs are a big switch from the previous SIM and SIM2. The Stealth 2 improves upon last year’s model in terms of technology while still keeping the red/black aesthetic. The first reason this driver is great for senior golfers is that it’s extremely forgiving (or “fargiving” as TaylorMade says in their commercials).

best tour edge driver for seniors

This club has 2X as much carbon as the previous Stealth which helps increase ball speed for longer distances. As TaylorMade said,  “Stealth 2 HD features nearly twice the amount of carbon. It is constructed using a new Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring and collectively utilizes more of the lightweight material than any driver in TaylorMade history.”

Another reason we love this driver for seniors is the 60X carbon twist face. Here’s how they described the new design.  “Building on the speed producing success of the original 60X Carbon Twist Face™, the new design features an enhanced version of Inverted Cone Technology to help maintain ball speed on off-center strikes and increase forgiveness.”

The third reason this driver is great for seniors is the draw-bias design. The engineers reconstructed the weight from the new carbon design to make it more stable and easier to hit straighter. If you struggle with a nasty slice, there is no doubt this TaylorMade driver can help you out.

While there is no sliding weight track (that’s only available in the slightly more expensive “Plus” model) you can adjust the loft with the sleeve. This allows you to add or remove loft to make sure it’s a good fit for your swing and not losing out on any distance.

Finally, the stock shaft is a Fujikura Speeder NX red shaft. This is a high launching shaft that is available in S, R, or A flex and super light weight (48–62 grams depending on flex). This will also make the driver easier to swing faster and hopefully add more distance to your long game.

  • 12-degree loft option (also 9 and 10.5).
  • Most forgiving driver of the new Stealth 2 lineup.
  • No sliding weight track.
  • Only one stock shaft option.

The 460 cc design, adjustable loft sleeve, and draw bias should make this driver a no-brainer for senior golfers.

3. Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Draw Driver

If you want to reduce your slice (or even hit a draw) and save money on a new driver, check out the Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Draw . As the name suggests, this driver is all about helping you hit a draw (or at least, make that slice a lot more playable).

CG LauncherXL LtDrv10.5DrwR RH

The XL Lite draw is a spinoff of their new Launcher which has an XL head for more MOI – which equals more forgiveness. It’s also lighter than the original design as they removed the adjustable hosel and is 12 grams lighter than the original.

The XL Lite Draw model has all the benefits of the XL Lite and a built-in draw bias. This will help you hit a straighter ball flight without trying to rotate your hands or make any extra swing changes.

This driver has a Project X Cypher 40 shaft that is 48 grams. It has a high launch and high spin to help you bomb it off the tee.

  • Lightweight head with a built-in draw bias.
  • XL head design for higher launch and more forgiveness than ever.
  • “Accuracy Build” it, which is a custom feature. This makes the driver one inch shorter and doesn’t include the counterbalance for even more tee ball control.
  • Only available in a right-hand model with regular or A flex.
  • Only available in 10.5 degree (they should have a 12 based on the player profile of this club).

This club is ideal for seniors and those who don’t generate as much natural swing speeds. The built-in draw bias will also help find more fairways and hopefully, easier approach shots to the green. For the price, this club is hard to beat for higher handicap players.

4. Callaway Epic Max Star

If you’re looking for a lightweight driver, the Callaway Epic Max Star is for you. Callaway did some engineering magic to make this driver an astonishing 52 grams lighter than the Epic Max driver. That is impressive!

best tour edge driver for seniors

Despite being super lightweight, the driver still has tons of great features of other Callaway drivers, making it the perfect driver for senior golfers:

  • A.I. Flash face design for maximum distance and forgiveness.
  • Jailbreak Speed Frame technology helps straighten out off center hits and improve accuracy.
  • Incredibly forgiving thanks to Triaxial Carbon toe patch with draw bias.

This driver is available in 10.5 or 12 degree loft options and is 46 inches standard length. This is a little longer than most drivers but it’s so lightweight it shouldn’t be much of a problem. It will likely take some getting used to in terms of address position though.

While the head is incredibly lightweight, they didn’t stop there. Callaway also paired this club with a UST Mamiya Attas graphite shaft. It only weighs 30 grams and has a high launch.

Plus, they even added a lightweight 25 gram Winn grip too. Overall, this is the most lightweight driver ever offered from Callaway.

  • Extremely lightweight design.
  • Draw bias to help correct slices and hit more fairways.
  • One of the lightest shafts ever. At only 36 grams and a D1 swing weight, this should help any golfer get tons of speed.
  • Too light for most golfers. Ideal for beginners and seniors who don’t have as much natural swing speed.

This club is lightweight and definitely not for everyone. If you have a moderate to fast swing stay away from this option as it has too much flex. Instead, opt for the new Rogue ST series instead.

But if you need a super lightweight club to help increase distance, this is a great option. Everything about this driver makes it easy to swing and max out your distance.

Pinemeadow PGX Offset Driver (Men's, Right Hand, Graphite, Regular)

This 460cc clubhead is made to help you reduce your slice with it’s offset shaft settings. While it doesn’t have nearly as much technology for distance and forgiveness, it’s still a good club for beginners or recreational golfers. It also comes with a matching headcover and available in left-hand model as well.

Best Golf Driver for a Senior Golfer

Do you have more questions about finding the best driver for seniors? If so, we got answers on the right drivers for seniors!

What loft driver should seniors use?

Most seniors should use a driver loft of at least 11 degrees. While some players might get away with 10 or 10.5 if they still have a higher swing speed, most golfers should between 11-13 degrees.

This additional 1-3 degrees makes it easier for senior players to hit it high off the tee and get an extra 5-15 yards of carry. The extra distance can play a huge factor when hitting into par 4s and turn a hybrid into a mid iron instead.

If you’re looking to play your best golf, make sure you have plenty of loft as you get older!

What is the longest driver for seniors?

Distance, distance, distance.

That’s the #1 focus in the golf world (thanks Bryson) and it’s making some iconic courses becoming obsolete. But distance is very important, especially as you get older.

Distance wise, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the five drivers from above. All of them have the latest technology to make it easier for seniors to gain distance even with a slower swing speed. Plus, they all have high MOI settings built in which means more forgiveness and straighter shots.

What is the average swing speed of a senior golfer?

According to a study done by My TPI , the average speed for 50-60 year old golfers is between 72-86 mph . For golfers above 60 years old, it’s between 71-79mph .

Remember, speed is bound to slow down as you get older but with the right technology, it doesn’t have to affect your distance. Keep upgrading your clubs and each shaft to notice less of an effect on the course.

Senior Golf Driver

What is the best driver for slow swing speed?

If you have a lower swing speed it’s not specifically the driver that matters as much as the shaft and loft. With a lower swing speed, you want a driver that has plenty of shaft flex. The stiffer the flex, the more speed is required. This is why most club manufacturers make a senior (or A flex or lite flex) to help with decreased swing speed.

Plus, you want to consider the amount of loft of the club. The lower the swing speed, the harder it is to get the ball airborne. This is why you want to invest in a driver with more loft (11-12 degrees), so you can get it flying high without trying to get more clubhead speed.

What type of grip should seniors use?

This is another great question as your grip plays a huge role in making consistent contact with your driver. For seniors, you want to make sure that you have a golf grip that is comfortable and soft.

Usually, I would suggest staying away from full cord grips as they’re much firmer and harder to grip. Instead, I would recommend using rubber grips (like Winn grips) as they’re a lot easier to grip throughout the round.

Plus, don’t forget about the size of the grip as well. If you suffer from arthritis or don’t have the grip strength you once did, opt for a larger grip. If you’re playing standard grips, try out midsize and see how that impacts your grip pressure.

Ultimately, you want a driver grip that allows you to comfortably grip the club without adding tension in your forearms.

Final Thoughts on Best Golf Drivers

So what is the best driver for seniors?

As you can tell, there are so many great options for senior golfers  making the game more enjoyable than ever. Remember, as you get older your speed will decrease (sorry guys) but that doesn’t mean you have to lose distance.

Instead of playing your old, outdated driver that’s too heavy, too stiff of flex, and not enough loft, make the switch. Play a driver that fits your new swing speed (plus ball speed ) and I promise, you won’t regret the decision.

When choosing your new driver, make sure it has at least 11 degrees of loft and a light flex shaft. This alone will help you hit it longer and straighter without making adjustments to your swing. Then, pick the brand you like (as each clubhead has a different style) and start swinging.

Finally, don’t forget to make sure that your grip is comfortable for your hands. A lot of stock options are cord style which aren’t suited for senior players so plan accordingly. A lot of golfer will want to opt for a rubber and/or larger grip to make it easier on your hands.

best tour edge driver for seniors

  • Created using artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Internal jailbreak bars for incredible speed
  • Triaxial carbon fabric crown for a lower center of gravity
  • One of the most expensive golf drivers on the market

The Callaway Epic Flash Star Driver is a top of the line premium golf driver that is designed to help players that are looking for extra ball speed and distance. When senior players need help getting their golf ball to travel further, they will want a driver like this in their hands. As you come into the impact position, the face will flex, and then it will pull tight again to promote maximum distance with the clubhead.

Overall the driver is a large investment , but with the low center of gravity and extreme speed, most seniors will easily agree the technology is well worth the money.

3. Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo Driver

Best Driver For Senior Beginner

best tour edge driver for seniors

  • Turbocharged Cup Face
  • HiBore Crown
  • Ultralight hosel
  • Non-adjustable driver

The Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo Driver is a great golf club for those that are looking to get increased launch, a higher ball flight, and an overall consistent golf driver. The thing that helps the Cleveland Launcher stand out is that it has a very low dispersion rate. If you feel as though you spray the ball around the course a bit, this is a club that can absolutely help to make a difference.

Cleveland Golf Launcher Turbo Drivers are an excellent choice for the golfer that is looking for the lightest weight technology without trying to do all that much with adjustability. Since this does not have an adjustable hosel, you can expect that it becomes a bit more difficult to change the loft or lie angle should you run into some trouble.

However, with the premium shaft and impressive launch, most golfers like this club set just the way it is.

4. Cobra Women’s RadSpeed XB

Best Driver For Senior Women

best tour edge driver for seniors

  • Strategic center of gravity placement
  • Extreme back weighting
  • Thin carbon crown
  • The sound is a bit loud, takes a bit to get used to

The Cobra Women’s RadSpeed XB is an excellent option for women golfers that are starting their senior careers. With a women’s golf driver like this, you will benefit from a low center of gravity, impressive speed, and increased forgiveness.

In addition, the Thin Ply Carbon Crown on the golf driver head is 30% thinner and will make it easier to get extra ball speed. Overall the club saved another 7 grams of weight in the T Bar area of the club head.

Essentially the driver is one of the lightest that Cobra has ever put out , but it has some of the best performance around. You will also find that the adjustable weighting makes it an excellent choice for those that are looking to play around with different lofts and ball flights.

best tour edge driver for seniors

  • Advanced artificial intelligence
  • Faster ball speeds
  • Very draw bias

The Callaway Big Bertha B21 Driver is the most forgiving for a senior golfer. With this club in your hands, you will be able to straighten out almost any slice or hook that you may come across. The B21 is a very low spin club with high MOI that will send the ball rolling a long way.

The large Big Bertha club head with draw bias increases ball speeds and helps golfers that are looking for an overall longer ball flight. If you miss the center with the B21, you are still going to get plenty of incredible distance and a straight golf shot.

6. Callaway Epic Max Driver

Best Senior Driver For Distance

best tour edge driver for seniors

  • Created using artificial intelligence
  • New Triaxial Carbon material
  •  Optifit hosel
  • Higher priced new release

The brand new Callaway Epic Max Driver will get elderly golfers more distance than any other club on the market. With the Callaway Epic Max Driver in your hands, players will get some of the lowest spinning and fastest ball speed golf shot strikes they have ever seen.

There is a sliding weight in the club head that is going to help golfers that are trying to increase the adjustability they get with a golf club in their hands. If you want to shoot straighter or learn to play the ball low or high, you can do it with the Epic Max in your hands.

The new Jailbreak technology has also changed a bit, and players are benefiting greatly from this new face. IF you want something that will give you impressive shot shaping but still allow for increased distance and overall control. The thing we love most about the Epic Max driver is that it allows players to hit golf shots that make them feel like they have full control over where the golf ball goes.

7. TaylorMade M6

best tour edge driver for seniors

So TaylorMade grabbed yet another spot in our top three drivers for seniors. This TaylorMade M6 Driver is one of the best and most popular drivers on the market at this time.

The list of technology and features included in this Driver goes on and on but we will give you a quick rundown on the things you need to know.

TaylorMade uses the newly introduced speed injected twist face technology on all of their M6 Drivers.

Essentially they make every Driver and then test them individually before they ship them out to make sure they are as close as possible to the legal limit.

This driver is one of the longest drivers on the market, not just for senior golfers but for lower handicap players as well.

Although there are some adjustments you can make on this club (loft sleeve) the Center of Gravity stays in place. Its design is to create the most desirable spin and launch angles for a great mid handicap player driver .

If you are looking to hit the ball further this Driver is the choice for you. Several shafts are available for this club in the senior flex.

8. TaylorMade SIM Max Draw

Best Senior Driver For Fixing A Slice

best tour edge driver for seniors

The TaylorMade SIM Max Draw Drive r is built for the senior golfer that slices their shots. If you are tired of seeing that left-to-right ball flight on your shots, the SIM Max Draw could be the best fit for your game.

There are several important things that truly make the SIM Max Draw stand out from the rest of the best senior golf clubs on the market.

The Speed Injected clubhead allows golfers to get more distance and accuracy in their game. Each driver’s head is researched and perfected before it leaving the warehouse. If there is room for more ball speed, Taylor Made will inject the face and get it to the legal limit.

With Twist Face technology golfers will get a very large sweet spot with a corrective face angle. This face angle allows players to miss the center of the face yet still get lots of good distance. If you are used to losing 40 or 50 yards on a missed drive, the SIM Max will help get you quite a bit more distance.

Adjustability in a senior driver is essential, and luckily with SIM Max draw, you can use the loft sleeve to set this driver to work for your golf game.

You can optimize the face and launch angle as well . Allowing this safe correction is helpful for when the slice comes and goes from your gram.

This driver is packed with impressive technology, and it is going to be technologically relevant for the next five to ten years. Certainly, you get your money’s worth out of the SIM Max Draw Driver.

9. Cobra Speedzone

Best Adjustable Driver for Seniors

best tour edge driver for seniors

The Cobra Speedzone driver is one of the most adjustable drivers on the market. If you want to draw the ball or lower your launch, you can make some simple adjustments to get the Cobra Speedzone to work for you.

Cobra has always been a step behind when it comes to distance. However, with the new Speedzone series, they have certainly caught up. The CNC milled face and 360 Carbon Wrap help to make the Speedzone more efficient and higher performing when it comes to ball speed stability.

The Speedzone comes with the new Speedzone shaping that helps players get the club to go through the air at a much faster pace. If you are a senior golfer who feels that you have been losing club head speed, the Speedzone can help you earn it back.

When it comes to the center of gravity, the Cobra Speedzone driver has a low center that allows for a very high launch . Senior golfers that are capable of getting extra launch are going to get more distance. The longer the ball stays in the air, the further the distance.

We like the Cobra Speedzone for seniors because the golf game of a senior player is continually changing. As your game changes and you start to lose speed, purchasing new clubs can get expensive.

Having the ability to simply adjust the club, a few degrees, will be a great benefit.

10. Pinemeadow PGX Offset

Best Affordable Driver for Seniors

best tour edge driver for seniors

Golf Drivers don’t get much more affordable than this PGX Offest Golf Driver .

The main selling point of this PGX Driver is that it is very much a slice correcting club . It’s set up extremely offset to try and help seniors or any golfers square the club at impact.

This driver is a very low priced option and makes it a perfect choice for someone using very old clubs, looking for an affordable upgrade. Will this driver deliver the maximum ball speed that the TaylorMade M6 or Cobra F9 would, no.

What to look for when Picking a Senior Golf Driver?

So you know it’s time to switch to a senior shaft but you are wondering if there is more to picking out a senior driver.

Take a look at our guide for choosing the best golf driver for seniors that delivers every time!

Club Head Size and Weight

The clubhead size is likely going to be the same on pretty much any of the options you are interested in. With 460 cc being the legal limit most manufacturers want to keep the size right around this mark to help increase performance.

The weights when choosing a senior driver can be very important. Make sure when reading reviews you look for keywords like “adjustable weights” or “reduced weight in club head”.

Several manufacturers have been putting out excellent options for lightweight drivers that don’t reduce performance or have decreased stability. However, if you don’t want to struggle with the weight of a driver, refer to our definitive guide on the best irons for seniors that are currently available.

Adjustability

Adjustability can be a double-edged sword. I think this is a great feature to have in a club. For some reason, as you age if you start to develop a draw that you don’t want, you can set a driver to compensate for it.

Are you going to put the time in on the range to fix it? Probably not, so why not use the adjustability to your advantage.

That being said some golfers have trouble with the adjustable features and they just want something that is set to work for them. Something they can hit cleanly all day without worrying about striking near the toe or heel.

They want a simple, easy, grab-and-go club without having the thought of changing it by a few degrees based on the day. If a person is not at the top of their game (and even if they are) adjustability can be a nice benefit for a more comfortable round.

Forgiveness

As long as your MOI, shaft, and loft options are in balance with your golf game you should be fine as far as forgiveness is concerned. The quickest way to make this game of golf harder is to choose the wrong golf equipment, namely shaft and loft.

As a senior player if you end up going for a Driver shaft that is too stiff for you that is where your swing speed issues will escalate. As a general rule of thumb if you are looking at a Driver that is referred to as the “Tour” model then it may be a bit less forgiving and not as easy to drive than some of the others.

If you choose a Driver that is not adjustable make sure to get yourself at least 10.5 degrees of loft. You will want this for maximum distance and correct launch.

Shaft Options

As far as shaft options are concerned it will depend on the caliber of Driver you choose.

The high-end expensive drivers will likely have two senior shaft options, one in an ultra-lightweight shaft and another in a slightly heavier shaft.

If you go with a company like Cleveland you will likely just get their stock shaft option. They generally design the driver to work with the shaft it is intended to come with. These shafts are almost always great in a medium weight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buying a perfect and easy to use golf driver for a senior can take a bit of time and research. There are so many great options on the market that golfers often struggle with which will be the best for their game.

Luckily with the answers to these questions and our reviews you should have confidence in the way that you can get your golf shots off the tee at your favorite courses.

The ultimate best golf driver for seniors this year was hands down the TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Driver . From the moment this club was even an idea it was the senior with slower swing speeds that they had in mind.

The club has helped many senior golfers increase clubhead speed and improve ball flight.

The most important thing to remember as a senior player looking for drivers is that your clubhead speed is likely not going to increase through the years. If anything it will continue to decrease.

Don’t buy a driver that you need to push yourself to hit well, now is the time to purchase something that works for you, not against you.

Choosing the right golf ball for you can also greatly improve your game, check out our recommendations for the best golf balls for seniors in 2024.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 and C523 Drivers Review

More in drivers:.

Cobra DARKSPEED LS Driver

50 Words or Less

The Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 and C523 drivers offer tremendous value.  Both provide extreme forgiveness, high launch, and ideal spin with a few differences to appeal to a wide range of players.

Check out the new Tour Edge Hot Launch C524 & E524 drivers HERE

Introduction

Tour Edge Hot Launch has made its name by creating the most value-driven golf clubs in the industry.  Not only is their price point significantly lower than other major brands, they also include lifetime warranties on every product they sell.

While their presence in the professional ranks is almost exclusively with players on the Champions Tour, Tour Edge has created products for any level golfer.  In this review, we break down their latest Hot Launch drivers, the C523 and E523.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 and C523 drivers address

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 and E523 are noticeably different in the looks category.  Although both have glossy crowns with a “523” alignment aid on top, the E523 (above) is more round in shape with a wide face and larger footprint .  The E523 also sits lower to the ground and sports an elevated ridge to aid with alignment.  A single adjustable weight sits on the heel side of the sole, while engineers placed an additional pyramid shaped mass called the “Houdini Sole” in the rear of the club for increased stability.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 and C523 drivers

The C523 (above) is more traditional in looks with a taller face .  Those that fear the hook will certainly enjoy its open look at address.  Unlike the E version, the single removable weight sits at the center back of the C523 while the “power channel” groove runs parallel to the club face.  The sole rail design that runs along the bottom of the club has a ton of benefits which I will talk about later on.

best tour edge driver for seniors

Sound & Feel

Both drivers from the Tour Edge Hot Launch sounded fantastic and were consistent across the line.  Each driver generated a sharp, high pitch “thwack” at impact which I was instantly comfortable with.  It was not as quiet as I expected, but the sound it created won’t scare anyone off.

The feel of the C523 and E523 is where these two drivers separate themselves from one another.  The C523 felt more difficult to find the sweet spot .  Poor strikes felt slightly harsher and generated an elevated amount of vibration through the hands.  A better player could find benefit here as I could always distinguish where the ball met the face.

best tour edge driver for seniors

The E523 , however, has a large sweet spot which holds true in the numbers as well.  Any half decent strikes generate a soft feel at impact while contact away from center were less noticeable.  In contrast to the C523, the E523 will appeal to a higher handicap golfer who struggles to consistently find the center of the club face.

best tour edge driver for seniors

Performance

The Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 and E523 drivers performed beyond my expectations.  Between the two drivers, they cover a wide span of players and ultimately offer a ton of value .  The forgiveness across the face and ball speed retention were as good as any other large manufacturer.  According to Tour Edge, the Diamond Face VFT was improved on for 2022 and is the catalyst to these faster ball speeds.

Get faster ball speeds from the fairway with the Tour Edge Hot Launch C523 and E523 FWs HERE

best tour edge driver for seniors

While both drivers cover a broad spectrum of golfers, the C523 is considered to be for the better player, meaning it is more fade bias .  The C driver, which stands for “competition”, produces a high launch and low spin ball flight .  While I have hit lower spinning drivers, the new sole rail design enhanced ball speeds and forgiveness throughout my testing.

best tour edge driver for seniors

Contrary to the C523, the E523 is geared towards the player looking for maximum forgiveness and higher spin .  The E driver, which stands for “extreme spec”, is a slice killer as evidenced by the heel weight and increased offset.  The E523 is high launch and its mid spin design helps keep the ball in the air longer.  Players with swing speeds under 100 mph should certainly give the E523 a try.

best tour edge driver for seniors

If there is one downfall here, it’s that there is little adjustability in the Hot Launch E523 and C523 drivers.  The hosel is bonded and additional weight kits (for the rear and heel sole) are not currently offered for these particular models.  However, at a $270 price point, both drivers have massive value which include a stock UST Mamiya HL-SST shaft in the desired flex.  This is why a fitting is even more critically important for the Tour Edge Hot Launch products and should be on every golfer’s testing list for 2023.

Tour Edge Hot Launch E523 and C523 drivers

The Tour Hot Launch C523 and E523 drivers are, in a word, impressive.  Both of these drivers offer something for a wide range of players at a reasonable price.  The C523 provides a forgiving, high launch, low spin driver in a fade biased head while the E523 maximizes forgiveness with draw biased characteristics and a larger sweet spot.  All of this technology custom built for $270 has massive value and should be on your short list of drivers to hit in 2023.

Thanks Joseph for reading. Good to see another southern Connecticut golfer following along.

Interesting. The Tour Edge drivers have shorter length shafts than all of the leading brands. My view, is this a good decision as it generally helps accuracy and consistency particularly for higher handicap players

There’s an exception to every rule but generally speaking, I believe most golfers will benefit from a shorter driver shaft. Love the comment Peter.

I’m a Tour Edge guy, using a Exotics EXS220 driver. Problem is I’m always playing with the loft/lie angle adjustment. Looking to get fitted for a 523 driver that is set and ready. No guessing. Mid handicap player.

Agree with your hear Randy. Get fit and then maybe the minimal adjustability will help you commit to the setup! Let us know how it goes!

Why We Like It

The larger footprint of the two models exudes off-center-hit forgiveness, which is enhanced by a 20-gram sliding weight in the rear perimeter. That positioning pushes the center of gravity deeper for off-center-hit stability, the highest in company history. Still, letting that rear weight slide to draw or fade positions can soften those kinds of mis-hits by as much as 10 yards, per the company. The face-thickness pattern, which features rows of interwoven diamond shapes, gets thinner on the E723 for extra forgiveness where the target player often makes contact.

Performance

Look / sound / feel, hot list players feedback.

Ratings are based on players’ assessments in three key performance areas.

Ball Flight

Playability.

Has an incredibly large sweet spot. No matter where I make contact on the face, I get a consistent medium-flighted draw. Supreme reliability.

A pretty club with a subtle two-tone head and a nice alignment aid. Easy to hit a high cut that doesn't slide too much with minimal spin. Jumps off the face and gets good distance.

I get a higher than normal ball flight and more carry. The T-square crown design helps me square the face at address.

Max-out Your Speed and Carry Distance with The Driver

Whether you want more distance or a consistent shot shape, you need one skill above all others: the ability to make flush contact with the ball. Tour Edge E522 Driver Review

The E522 driver from Tour Edge delivers on its technology promises to help golfers combat their dreaded slice while also providing premium aesthetics and naturally high launch conditions. Even better, those attributes come in a driver that ranks as one of the best value propositions in the category.

Slice-fighting technology delivers as intended

Highly forgiving on off-center strikes

Effortlessly high launch

One of the best-looking offset drivers you’ll see

Impact sound won’t appeal to all

No adjustability

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

The Tour Edge C522 driver is one of the standout products I’ve tested this year, as it earned a rare 5-star rating for the impressive performance it delivered at what is simply an incredible price point. But there’s another driver in the 522 lineup as well, and that’s the E522, which will be the focus of this review.

For those keeping score at home, the "C" in Tour Edge’s branding stands for Competition Spec while the "E" stands for Extreme Spec. Probably the easiest way to explain the nomenclature would be to borrow terms most often associated with irons, as C models would best be categorized as “players” drivers while E models would best be described as “game-improvement” drivers. And make no mistake about it; these two drivers are very different animals.

Most notable about the E522 is that it was designed to help golfers combat a slice. As such, it has an offset hosel design and discretionary weight has been moved toward the heel to allow right-handed golfers who struggle to square the face at impact to release the toe more easily and eliminate that ugly miss to the right. It also has a more upright lie angle to further encourage a draw, and it comes at a shorter stock length of 44.5 inches to promote improved center-face contact. I’ll address performance shortly, but the C522 and E522 also look extremely different.

Tour Edge E522 Driver Face

The E522 has a much shallower face to promote effortlessly high launch and the offset is noticeable at address. What I will say, however, is that the offset is more subtle than what you might see in other drivers in this category, and Tour Edge has done an excellent job from an aesthetics standpoint of hiding any appearance of a closed face at address by using a more curved topline. In terms of its overall profile, the E522 is about the same size as the C522 and also features a traditional rounded shape. I’d also add that from an overall aesthetics standpoint the E522 belies its value price point, as it looks like a high-quality driver.

As for the testing sessions I conducted with the E522, they all took place on the course at Atlanta National Golf Club using Titleist Pro V1x golf balls . I spent one morning hitting multiple driver shots off of several tees, and I also played a couple of rounds with the E522. What I did not do for this test, however, is hit the E522 comparatively against other drivers that I typically use. Given that the E522 is a slice-fighting driver, which normally wouldn’t be a fit for my game, comparing it to drivers that are more ideal fits would be like comparing apples to oranges. So for this review, the E522 is being judged solely on its own merits.

Tour Edge E522 Driver

I’ll start with the sound and feel of the E522, and it was loud. The C522 was also on the louder side but offered an explosive titanium crack. The E522’s impact acoustics, meanwhile, were equally loud but much higher pitched. While it’s one of the louder drivers that I’ve hit in the last couple of years, which might not appeal to everyone, it should be noted that the feel off of the face isn’t at all harsh.

Of course, for players who are trying to fight a slice, sound might not be an issue if they can keep the ball out of rough, trees, or hazards on the right side of the golf course. And from that standpoint the E522 performed as intended. I normally don’t struggle with a pronounced left-to-right ball flight but any efforts I made to miss wildly right on the course with this driver were for the most part neutralized regardless of how hard I tried to hit violent cuts. Rather, those shots resulted in slight pulls that stayed in play and normal swings produced repeatable draws that started down the target line and typically finished in the left side of the fairway.

Additionally, as was the case with the C522, the E522 performed extremely well on off-center strikes, most notably from a direction standpoint. My most common miss is off the toe and with this design I expected those misses to end up left of left. But it didn’t happen. Rather, my poor strikes all stayed in play and curved far less than I would have expected.

Tour Edge E522 Driver

What I did notice from a performance standpoint is that I hit the ball extremely high with the E522, which is one of the performance attributes that it was designed to deliver. Based on my experience testing golf clubs I’m confident that the peak heights I was seeing were a result of higher launch conditions and higher spin numbers, which did equate to shots that for me were typically about 10 yards short of where I typically hit the ball on my home course. That said, I would attribute those distance results to fit and the driver’s design more than anything.

There’s a lot to like for the right player about the E522, especially at what is an amazing price point of $249. I do believe it’s more of a niche product and that the C522 would be a better fit for a wider range of players. The E522 isn’t adjustable and offers limited shaft options, but if you’re a golfer who struggles with an open face at impact or lacks the swing speed to generate the launch conditions you need to optimize carry distance, the E522 is definitely worth consideration as one of the best slice-fighting drivers and best budget drivers on the market.

In his role at Golf Monthly, Chris reviews a broad spectrum of golf equipment, ranging from the latest in golf clubs to what’s new in the world of golf technology. His vast experience in the game allows him to look beyond the marketing hype to judge the merits of the latest equipment for golfers of all ability levels. As for the trend in golf equipment that Chris has been most impressed with in recent years, the Players Distance Iron category would earn that distinction, as golfers now have far better options for irons that provide the assistance that so many need in terms of distance and forgiveness without forcing them to sacrifice look and feel.

On a personal level, Chris played college golf and was a three-year letterwinner and two-year captain at Lynchburg College in Virginia and later spent two years as the assistant golf coach at the University of Virginia. The vast majority of his professional career, however, has been spent as a sports writer and editor. An avid player, Chris currently maintains a handicap index of 2.4 and has a career-low round of 66, which he has shot on three occasions. He lives about 20 miles north of Atlanta in Roswell, Georgia, with his wife, Stacey, and is a member at Atlanta National Golf Club.

Hot Launch E524 Driver

Hot Launch E524 Driver

Description.

The Extreme Game Improvement Hot Launch E524 Driver is designed to be the easiest driver to hit in the market for slower to medium swing speeds. Every aspect of the E524 is focused on improving launch and accuracy. The 460cc Titanium driver is incredibly stable at impact thanks to its extreme Moment of Inertia (MOI) properties.

The technology built into the E524 Driver is all about easy launch, consistent playability, and maximum forgiveness across the entire face.

Houdini Sole Technology - The Houdini Sole includes an area of mass concentrated on the trailing edge of the sole of the clubhead, as well as a curved leading edge under the face. This unique and patented design creates more area to put extra mass, allowing Tour Edge engineers to precisely position weight in the head for an ultra-low and deep Center of Gravity, optimizing launch conditions and greatly improving stability.

Ridgeback Technology – TE engineers have brought the Ridgeback Tech concept from Exotics to Hot Launch on the E524 Driver with a Ridgeback rail on the crown. The Ridgeback rail provides increased structural properties that help produce more power across the entire face, including the extreme perimeters. The Ridgeback activation is also utilized as a unique alignment aid at address.

High Moment of Inertia – The weight of the Houdini Sole strategically placed to the extreme rear of the clubhead places more mass at the extreme trailing edge of the clubhead.

The back weight creates an extremely high MOI rating that surpasses 5,000 grams per cubic centimeter squared for top in-line stability. This weighting dramatically affects a lower and deeper CG positioning of the club for ease of launch and more forgiveness off the face at impact.

Diamond Face VFT - Diamond Face VFT technology is a breakthrough in face technology that features 36 different thick and thin diamond shapes or “mini-trampolines” behind the face. Diamond Face VFT produces a hotter face with faster ball speeds and better performance on off-center hits, as well as reduced spin.

Heel Weighted Slice-Fighting Offset Design - Offset designs are combined with a heel sole weight to provide the ultimate in slice fighting technology. The offset design of the E524 Driver added with a heel sole weight allows the face to square up at impact for straighter ball flight. The strategically placed heel draw-bias weighting of the E Series offset designs are engineered to help golfers avoid the right side of the course and to increase launch.

Ultra-Light Premium Shafts – The E524 Driver comes stock with an ultralight ALDILA ASCENT PL (Performance Light) graphite shaft. What does it do? The ALDILA ASCENT PL provides lightweight performance with faster club head speeds without sacrificing feel. ASCENT PL technology is designed to resist ovaling, keeping the club head in position and creating more center-face contact. ALDILA ASCENT PL is best for golfers seeking lightweight performance and additional speed without sacrificing stability.
