Boasting awe-inspiring architecture, world-class museums, never-ending shopping malls, famous gardens, and a culinary scene that's second to none, Singapore is a year-round haven for visitors. Its port city heritage has led to a splendid fusion of cultures, ensuring the island is always abuzz with lively festivals and delectable festive treats.

However, a few considerations come into play when selecting the best time to book your tickets. Here's our guide to embracing the Lion City, helping you pinpoint the ideal time to experience its charms.

Singapore enjoys tropical weather all year round

Forget conventional seasons; Singapore's location just a smidge over one degree from the equator means it revels in a perpetual tropical summer vibe. Daily forecasts often predict rain, but these fleeting, sometimes torrential showers rarely cause changes to plans.

This is especially the case during the wet phase of the northeast monsoon between December and January. Temperatures hit a high during June and July, but there are plenty of indoor attractions if you need a break from the heat.

Carrying a sunhat and umbrella will ensure you're fully geared up for whatever the weather brings.

Hotel prices remain relatively steady, except for dates around public holidays, summer school holidays (June and July), cultural celebrations (especially Chinese New Year) and premier events like the Formula One Night Race, when rooms are snatched up months ahead for exorbitant prices.

Singapore hosts colorful festivals between February and April

During the Chinese New Year and other public holidays, Singapore bursts with brightly lit lanterns, moreish pineapple tarts, and visitors and locals immersed in the Lunar New Year festivities. While many local stores and markets will shutter post-holiday for a day or two, large-scale malls and attractions remain open, but brace yourself for large crowds. Come during the second week after the holiday, and enjoy the colorful street parade, Chingay. Vibrant floats and a multi-cultural mix of performers will gather to entertain audiences, and even foreigners can easily get a ticket through the official website .

The most colorful festival on the Hindu calendar, Holi, is celebrated in March, and you can join attendees at events at select venues across the island to shower each other with colorful powders.

No less bright but far more wince-inducing, February's Thaipusam festival sees a procession of devotees, many of whom pierce their bodies with metal hooks and skewers to show their devotion. To see this startling sight juxtaposed against the modern streets of Singapore, be prepared to wait along the 4km stretch originating from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple at Serangoon Road to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple at Tank Road as early as 4am for the processions. Those who do so will be rewarded by a spectacle of sight and sound, with devotees carrying kavadis (decorated canopies) upon their bodies, as traditional instruments and prayers support them on their journey.

The month before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the conclusion of Ramadan, the Geylang Serai Bazaar springs to life. Enjoy the stunning lights and shop the stalls, which showcase a wide array of Malay and Middle Eastern goods, ranging from delectable treats to clothing and from sweets to savory delicacies. Reflecting the tastes of a younger crowd, expect inventive menus giving a spin on traditional favorites, such as praffles (a mixture of prata , a kind of grilled dough, and waffles) or ondeh ondeh churros which borrow flavors from a sweet dessert. A good alternative is the Kampong Glam bazaar, which will be particularly abuzz in 2024 as it celebrates the 200th anniversary of the nearby Sultan Mosque.

May is all about rugby – and cocktails

As May arrives, temperatures ascend, syncing with the island's sports enthusiasm that kicks into high gear as the world-class international Rugby Sevens tournament takes center stage.

Fortunately, the Singapore Cocktail Festival  arrives, too, offering a refreshing respite. With top-notch bartenders and global libations, it's a must-attend for cocktail connoisseurs. Those looking for a cool night out can head to breezy Sentosa for  Hendrick’s Sunset Cinema , a beachside open-air film-goers dream with sunset cocktails and dance party vibes.

Foodies and shoppers head to Singapore in June and July

Although the middle of the year marks Singapore’s hottest period, the peak school holiday months of June and July see the nation ramp up to its most frenetic pace with activities for families. Most of these will happen at museums and malls - perfect venues with cool air-conditioning but also educational exhibitions and so-tempting mid-year sales.

June sees dragon boats take to the waters to battle it out amid the beat of dragon boat drums. Don’t miss trying a festive rice dumpling, bamboo-wrapped glutinous rice bundles stuffed with various sweet or savory fillings.

Food enthusiasts should mark their calendars for June and July to coincide their visit with the annual Singapore Food Festival , a mouth-watering celebration of the island’s best culinary experiences. This is often centered in the bayfront area, with a food village offering international cuisine and cooking workshops. But you'll find that satellite events (with details on the official website ) will happen across the island or within restaurants themselves, so you'll never be far from a delicious deal.

National celebrations – plus Formula One – between August and October

As school holidays wind down, visitor numbers dwindle, but Singaporeans eagerly anticipate two major events. Singapore's National Day, celebrated on August 9th, marks the nation's independence from Malaysia and sees the island awash with the national flag, typically restricted from display unless specific regulations are met.

Visitors can partake in festivities around Marina Bay, including watching the Royal Singapore Air Force aerial display and fireworks shows. Weekend rehearsals happen at least a month before the event, so one can have more than a few chances to catch these happenings. However, ticketed seating can only be booked by citizens or permanent residents.

Hot on its tail, the Formula One roars into town in September for a thrilling weekend of high-speed racing, international music acts, and plenty of partying. Hotel prices skyrocket during this period, and the bayfront area dramatically changes with pop-up lounges, food stalls and spectator stands for the few days.

The season also hosts cultural events like the Hungry Ghost Festival, an annual Chinese tradition honoring the spirits of the afterlife and the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrating the autumn harvest end and symbolized by tasty mooncakes, which are enjoyed when shared with family and friends.

Enjoy the city illuminated in November and December

November and December usher in cooler months in Singapore, but you’ll never need more than a light jacket.

In November, shoppers gear up for Christmas during the Gifting Edition of the immensely popular Boutiques Fair, a biannual three-day shopping extravaganza uniting over 250 local boutique brands and designers under one roof. On top of this, major malls and the Orchard Road shopping belt will also join in with festive decoration, generous discounts and holiday sets to aid shoppers.

The respite from the heat is welcome news for competitors headed for the Singapore Marathon , held on the first Sunday in December. It’s also when the city is illuminated, first in Little India for the Hindu festival of lights, Deepavali, and then for Christmas celebrations along Orchard Road and at Gardens by the Bay. Delightfully, most of these are free, but there is a ticketed Christmas village event for the latter which replicates those found in Europe.

This is also when the city is illuminated, first in Little India for the Hindu festival of lights, Deepavali, and then for Christmas celebrations along Orchard Road and at Gardens by the Bay .

For party animals, ZoukOut , Asia’s iconic dusk-to-dawn dance music festival on Sentosa’s Siloso Beach, promises a night of unforgettable revelry.

The year concludes with a spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks display across the island, particularly dazzling at the Marina Bay precinct.

When is the best time to visit Singapore?

Singapore skyline at sunrise glowing pink

The best time to visit Singapore is from March to August, although it is a year-round destination. You will experience the least amount of rainfall, low humidity and pleasant temperatures.

Singapore is generally considered a destination that's suitable to travel to all year round with a fairly constant tropical climate that doesn't experience any extreme temperature patterns. However, that's not to say there isn't still a 'best' time to visit. Unfortunately, you won't be able to escape the heat (Singapore averages temperatures of around 26°C-30°C throughout the year) or the humidity (levels don't dip below 80%), but the months of March through to August are less likely to see extended periods of rainfall making it the best time to visit this sprawling, urban metropolis.

Best for: Gardens by the Bay, nighttime festivities in Clarke Quay, and the Singapore Zoo

Singapore starts shining again in Spring with rainfall becoming less and less frequent as the season goes on making it one of the best times to explore Singapore's luscious vegetation and immaculate gardens. The month of April experiences some form of fog over more than half of its days, however, this clears up in the afternoon. Temperatures have lowered a little with averages set at around 27°C making spending long periods of time outside more comfortable and manageable. For this reason, wandering through the enchanting nature park that is Gardens by the Bay, marveling at the world's most fascinating animals at the Singapore Zoo, and living it up in Clarke Quay when the sun goes down are among the best things to do in Spring.

Best for: walking through gardens (especially the Singapore Botanic Gardens), Universal Studios Singapore, and exploring Chinatown/Little India

Summer is considered the high season with crowds of travellers coming from all over the world to experience the very best Singapore has to offer. The weather plays a huge part in encouraging people to visit this remarkable destination as summer is the driest month with rainfall and thunderstorms extremely unlikely. However, while the rain may have stopped, the temperatures are just high (sitting at around 30°C-34°C) so you need to make sure you're being sun smart if you plan on spending time outdoors. Due to the dry, sunny skies, exploring natural attractions such as the Singapore Botanic Gardens (as well as the National Orchid Garden) and outdoor entertainment venues such as Universal Studios Singapore should be at the top of your activity list but always make sure you're properly hydrated and slathered in sunscreen.

Best for: Formula One, festivals, and eating at rooftop restaurants

Autumn in Singapore sees the return of the rain, especially in the later months of the season, and with increased rainfall comes rising humidity levels that some travellers may find uncomfortable. Foggy mornings also make a comeback but again, tend to clear up later in the afternoon with temperatures remaining steady at a high 30°C+.

But there's still plenty of fun to be had in Autumn with one of the country's biggest events taking place in September: the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix. During this time, racing fans flood the city and the atmosphere around the circuit in Marina Bay becomes electric. One of the other positives about travelling to Singapore during the months of September (after the Grand Prix), October, or November is that there are fewer tourists around, meaning fewer crowds at popular attractions and lower accommodation prices.

Best for: shopping, swimming on Sentosa Island, and Chinese New Year festivities

Winter in Singapore falls in the monsoon season so you can expect sudden tropical downpours and wild weather. Despite this, Winter is still a fantastic time to travel to Singapore as temperatures are still high, sitting at around 30°C-32°C. However, there's a high chance of fog so taking a ride on the Singapore Flyer or standing at the edge of Marina Bay sands isn't a good idea until later in the afternoon if you want to see the city's skyline. If you're not a fan of the rain, winter is the perfect time to explore Singapore's world-class shopping precincts with Orchard Road providing the perfect place to spend a few hours. However, the humidity that comes with Singapore's high temperatures might have you wanting to cool off so it's also a great time to hang out on the beaches of Sentosa Island.

Best Times To Visit Singapore

The best time to visit Singapore is anytime. The island nation experiences a warm, tropical climate year-round with daily highs in the 80s. And with a steady stream of business travelers, the city's hotels are seldom at a loss for occupants and maintain reasonable to high room rates. To avoid exorbitant prices, steer clear of popular events or national holidays like Chinese New Year. But keep in mind, rain is likely year-round.

10 Reasons to Visit Singapore

Best Time to Visit

The Best Time to Visit Singapore

best time to visit singapore from uk

TripSavvy /  Marina Li

Deciding the best time to visit Singapore depends upon whether you want to avoid busy periods during festivals or embrace the crowds and join in the fun. If you want to maximize dry weather, the best time to visit Singapore is during the summer months of June, July, and August.

Singapore is a serious melting pot for different religions and ethnic groups, especially Chinese, Malay, and Indian. Plus, the tiny island nation, which is a city-state, has one of the largest percentages of foreign workers in the world. With so many nationalities in one place, there's always something to celebrate. You can unexpectedly find yourself in the midst of a massive festival or street procession you didn't know was coming.

The Weather in Singapore

Singapore is located extremely close to the equator. It's just around 85 miles to the south of the city. You'll never be cold in Singapore unless it's because the air conditioning is perpetually cranked to the maximum inside of the many shopping malls. Museums and movie cinemas are even worse—take a jacket! Temperatures remain consistent throughout the year, with highs of 89 degrees Fahrenheit and lows in the mid-70s.

Many first-time travelers to Singapore are surprised to see so much green space and the abundance of walking trails. They expect a futuristic city where soulless concrete and moving sidewalks have replaced all greenery. But the island stays green for a reason: Singapore gets a lot of thundershowers. Unlike the rest of Southeast Asia where there is little to no rain during peak dry season, unexpected showers pop up often in Singapore. Fortunately, they usually don't last long, and the sun returns to raise humidity. The average humidity in Singapore is above 80 percent.

Rainfall is mostly consistent throughout the year except for additional rain in November, December, and January. Singapore experiences the wettest months during the monsoon season between November and January.

What to Do When It Rains in Singapore

Singapore averages 167 rainy days per year—that's nearly one out of two days a year with a bit of rain. Along with an interconnected matrix of shopping malls, indoor food courts, and local markets, there are plenty of world-class museums in Singapore to enjoy during passing showers.

Smoke and Haze From Sumatra

Singapore receives predictable haze and smoke annually from slash-and-burn agricultural fires that rage out of control in nearby Sumatra , Indonesia, just to the west. The pollution created by these fires is only one more example of how unsustainable palm oil plantations have become an ecological disaster. Despite an outcry from the government, the fires typically begin around May and can continue throughout the dry summer months until September.

Changes in wind direction can sometimes carry haze away as quickly as it came, so you shouldn't avoid visiting, unless you suffer from respiratory problems. On days when particulate levels rise too high, the air may irritate eyes and cause choking. Locals often opt to wear protective masks when the haze comes; you can get yours in any pharmacy.

On some years, particulate levels in the air rise above "safe" thresholds, forcing some business closures. Travelers with respiratory problems should check the haze in Singapore website created by the National Environment Agency to see if haze is a severe threat. On some very hazy days in the past, residents have been advised to minimize outdoor time and remain indoors.

Public Holidays in Singapore

Residents in Singapore enjoy 11 national holidays annually to accommodate the four major religious groups (Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, and Christian). Some secular holidays such as New Year's Day (January 1), not associated with specific groups, are also observed.

Some festivals such as Lunar New Year span much longer than a single day, and locals request holiday time before or after to maximize time off. Businesses owned by specific ethnic groups may still be closed in observance, and travel may be affected.

If a public holiday falls on Sunday, businesses will close Monday instead. The Ministry of Manpower sets the dates of public holidays in Singapore each year. Check their calendar if your time in Singapore is short.

Many festivals and holidays in Singapore are based on lunisolar calendars, so dates change from year to year.

Holidays differ between ethnic groups. The regular public holidays for Singapore include:

  • New Year's Day (January 1)
  • Chinese New Year (two days celebrated in either January or February )
  • Good Friday (March or April; dates vary)
  • Labour Day (May 1)
  • Vesak Day (dates vary; usually in May)
  • Hari Raya Puasa (dates vary based on Ramadan)
  • National Day (August 9)
  • Hari Raya Haji (dates vary)
  • Diwali (Deepavali) (dates vary; usually October or November)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
  • Polling Day General election and presidential election days are also public holidays

Peak Season in Singapore

As usual, traveling during big public holidays may be fun but expect higher prices for accommodation. Hotels often inflate rates for the increased demand, particularly during the Lunar New Year.

Festivals and Events in Singapore

The worst-case scenario for visiting Singapore is to turn up just a day or two after a major festival. With poor timing, you'll deal with the crowds and higher prices without getting to enjoy the festival itself. The largest festivals affecting transportation and accommodation in Singapore are Christmas (yes, the one on December 25), Lunar New Year in January or February, Ramadan , and National Day. You'll find many smaller events, parades, and celebrations throughout the year to enjoy other Asian festivals .

Spring in Singapore kicks off the country's dry season, making it a mostly pleasant time to visit. Temperatures are usually a high of 90 degrees Fahrenheit, low of 78 degrees.

Events to check out:

  • Singapore International Film Festival is the country's longest-running independent cultural event. It's held every April.
  • In May, Singapore Airlines sponsors the Singapore Airlines International Cup . With a S$3 million prize (around 2.1 million USD), it's one of Asia's richest horse racing events, attracting hordes to the Turf Club.

Summer is Singapore's driest season and one of the most popular among visitors, but you should consider air quality when you visit. Despite plenty of effort to curb the slash-and-burn agricultural practices in neighboring Sumatra, they continue, and the smoke and haze create poor air that quality chokes up locals and travelers every summer.

  • Singapore Food Festival is a month-long celebration of food usually in July.
  • The Great Singapore Sale is heaven for shoppers. From May through June department stores, malls, and individual boutiques offer incredible discounts and host late-night shopping events.

Early fall sees a break in the tourist traffic that plagues summer. If you come early enough, you also can shop at the very end of the Great Singapore Sale.

  • The Singapore Grand Prix is part of the Formula One World Championship. It's held each fall at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.

Even February, often the driest month in Singapore, still averages about six inches of rain. You'll see plenty of residents carrying umbrellas at all times; they're useful for both hot sun and unexpected rain.

  • The Chingay Parade is a yearly street parade that takes place in February. The colorful ceremony celebrates the birthdays of the Chinese deities.
  • ZoukOut , one of Asia's largest dance music festivals, takes place each year in December.

The best time to visit Singapore is in June, July, and August, during the country's dry season. Still, expect a rain shower or two if you visit during this time, but you'll avoid monsoon season, which lasts from November through January.

December is the wettest month in Singapore, as it lands smack dab in the middle of monsoon season and receives 287.4 millimeters of rainfall.

Singapore tends to be more expensive than other tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, but it's still much cheaper than visiting any major U.S. city. Lodging is inexpensive, complete with hostels, and food is relatively cheap, as well. Your biggest expense when visiting Singapore is air travel.

There's also plenty of exciting events and festivities happening in each month, so there's no excuse to keep your itinerary short.

If the sun's the priority, the period between May to August is your best bet. But pack an umbrella or a raincoat for unexpected showers as the weather can be quite temperamental. Rain or shine, we've put together a nifty guide to aid you in determining the best time to visit the Lion City.

January to February

January to February

Welcome to the new year! Big on celebrations, the city continues to party post-NYE  fireworks with Chinese New Year . It  paints the town red (literally) to usher in the  new traditional Chinese calendar year which usually takes place in January or February . Don't blink an eye as the city amps up the annual celebration with Chingay , a colourful parade that comes complete with dazzling floats, street performers from around the world and brilliant fireworks.

Don't miss the Hindu festival of Thaipusam too. Although it's not recognised as a public holiday in Singapore, this eye-catching festival with its colourful processions, decorated kavadis, and its most distinctive feature of skin piercings, is such an interesting event that it brings the traffic in Singapore to a standstill every year – but for good reason.

For more visual stunners, catch the city painted in a kaleidoscope of colours as artists, art collectors and enthusiasts from all over the world pull all the stops to showcase their masterpieces during the Singapore Art Week .

March to April

March to April

Things are a little bit more mellow during this period compared to the rest of the year. Besides observing Good Friday and enjoying a fun egg hunt during Easter, don your best party suit for Garden Beats Festival and HSBC Rugby Sevens – two mega annual events that usually run in March and April. Garden Beats Festival is a music and picnic affair that comes with an eco-friendly twist. Prefer some rugby action? Get ready to rock, ruck and rumble at the annual HSBC Rugby Sevens where the world’s top teams including powerhouses such as Fiji, New Zealand and South Africa, go head-to-head for the coveted trophy.

May to June

May to June

The heat turns up during this period, and we're not just talking about the temperature (it's also the driest here). With the school holidays in full-swing in June, the city is packed with exciting events, and it's not just for the kids either.

Soak up Singapore’s thriving creative scene at the Singapore International Festival of Arts which presents blockbuster performances from all around the world. Otherwise, stretch your dollar for some retail therapy as the Great Singapore Sale (GSS) returns with the best deals and steals in the city, especially at the famous Orchard Road.

Public holidays include Labour Day for Singapore's busy bees to take a sweet break,  Hari Raya Aidilfitri , a festival which marks the end of the fasting month, and Vesak Day, a celebration of the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha.

July to August

July to August

The dry season ends here but the heat stays on. Go all red and white on National Day (August 8), and catch the impressive military parades, dance and music performances and a jaw-dropping firework display at Marina Bay.

When it comes to  exposing music lovers here a new crop of the city's very own bands, along with emerging artists from around the region,  Baybeats  is one of the heavy hitters.

September to October

September to October

It's not quite Autumn but cool enough for sweater weather. Do expect the unexpected showers, though – it is monsoon season, after all. But don't let the rain dampen your spirits as you indulge in sweet mooncakes and marvel at the colourful lanterns during the traditional Chinese holiday of Mid-Autumn Festival .

Then take things up a notch with the annual night race: Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix . Expect loud sounds beyond the tracks with some of the biggest names in music. If that doesn't get your heart racing, perhaps  Universal Studios Singapore 's annual scare, which sees  a hair-raising mix of Western and Asian ghouls and ghosts,  will. Be alert – zombies might come after you!

November to December

November to December

Sadly, there's no such thing as a white Christmas in Singapore, but it's still a gorgeous tropical, winter wonderland from November through December. See the iconic Gardens by the Bay and Orchard Road transform into a dreamy Christmas paradise featuring enchanting themed festive pieces, gorgeous lights, Instagram-worthy photo opportunities and pop-ups.

Little India also gets brighter with the Hindu celebration of Deepavali where the streets are adorned with a kaleidoscope of lights, colourful displays and life-sized installations of elephants.

Towards the end of the year, party on as  Zoukout  returns to its home at Siloso Beach Sentosa with the best dance music from around the world. Then ring in the brand new year with a celebratory extravaganza set against the iconic city skyline at the  Marina Bay Singapore Countdown . Of course, the mainstay is the highly-anticipated firework spectacle that welcomes the new year with a bang at the stroke of midnight.

What to Pack for Singapore

Because of its location, the average temperature in Singapore is steady all year round. It ranges between 77 and 88°F and humidity is high, usually between 70 % – 80 %. With weather that reliable, this is certainly an outdoors destination. We advise coming with some sun-smart gear; a hat, strong sunscreen lotion and most importantly some comfortable, light clothing – including comfortable shoes – for gliding around the country. Just to be on the safe side, rain gear is advised if you are travelling between December and March.

Best Time To Visit Singapore

Best Time To Visit Singapore

There is no question too small. Start planning your dream trip by talking to our Destination Specialists

Located a little less than 140 km from the equator, Singapore experiences tropical weather, with temperatures ranging between 24°C – 31°C, and rain showers throughout the year. In a sense, Singapore is a year-round destination. But if pleasant temperatures and low rainfall levels are what you are looking for, then the best time to visit Singapore is from February to April.

Best Months to Visit Singapore

Most Ideal Low Season

With the northeast monsoon set in firmly, it is one of the wettest months of the year. Be prepared for heavy rains and winds. The first half of the year is, nevertheless, a busy time. Temperatures are at their lowest for the year with nights dipping to a pleasant 24°C.

We recommend

  • Explore the extensive art collection at the National Gallery Singapore
  • Marvel at the seven-story-tall rain vortex at Changi Airport

The northeast monsoon begins to make its exit. Humidity levels are low, and there is plenty of sunshine, making it the best time to holiday in Singapore. Depending on whether Chinese New Year falls in January or February, local markets and shops can be closed for a week or so during the celebrations.

  • Enjoy the many rides and attractions at Universal Studios
  • Witness the light and water show at the SkyPark Observation Deck

There’s lots of sunshine to look forward to in March. Sitting between the rainy period and the hot summer months, March sees spring-like weather conditions and is the best time to visit Singapore for outdoor activities. Daytime highs are in the high 20s or around 30°C.

  • Relax on the beaches of Sentosa Island
  • Take a long stroll along the 10 km long Southern Ridges Trail

It is one of the best times of the year to visit Singapore as you will have warm temperatures and plenty of dry and sunny periods to explore the city’s many outdoor attractions. Just be sure to have an umbrella or raincoat handy for those sudden afternoon downpours.

  • Tee off at the award-winning courses of Sentosa Golf Club
  • Breathe in freshness at the Singapore Botanic Gardens

While mercury readings are very similar to April, it starts to feel hot and humid in Singapore in May. Some of this can be attributed to the smoke and haze that blows in from the field clearings in Sumatra. This can cause eye irritation and respiratory issues, and travellers with breathing conditions should avoid this month.

  • Go on a night safari at the Singapore Zoo
  • Wine, dine, and party at the Clarke Quay riverfront district

The heat, humidity and haze continue to make their presence felt in June. Regardless, it’s a busy time to visit Singapore. It’s the start of the Great Singapore Sale and the Singapore Food Festival, events that draw visitors worldwide. The southwest monsoon arrives, bringing with it morning showers that pass by quickly.

  • Savour a meal at a Michelin star restaurant at the Marina Bay Sands
  • Visit the historically and culturally interesting Kampong Glam neighbourhood

The crowds continue to pack Singapore’s popular attractions. Expect morning showers brought in by the southwest monsoon, but these thunderstorms are as short as they are sudden. It is the driest month of the year. Haze, heat and humidity persist during this month.

  • Be awed by the beauty and scale of the Gardens by the Bay
  • Spend an evening taking in the sights and sounds along the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade

The flash thunderstorms, hot temperatures, high humidity and hazy smoke continues in August. As with the preceding few months, it’s best to keep an umbrella, raincoat, and face mask handy. With schools reopening after summer, it is a relatively quiet time of the year to visit Singapore.

  • Enjoy the fireworks and celebrations during Singapore National Day
  • Head out on a delightful river tour on a bumboat

The weather starts to clear up a little during this month. Rainfall levels are slightly lower than the previous month, and the smoke and haze of the peak summer months are no longer a problem. Daytime temperatures are around 31°C.

  • Capture magical photos at the Gates to Heaven of the Lempuyang Temple
  • Discover secluded strips of sand at Uluwatu and Padang Padang

It’s a transition month in Singapore as the southwest monsoon gives way to the northeast monsoon. The month sees thunderstorms that can be pretty heavy, but they typically don’t last very long. The upside is that the gentle sea breeze sets in and helps alleviate the afternoon heat.

  • Click a picture with the Merlion statue
  • Interact with the feathered residents of Jurong Bird Park

November is one of the wettest months in Singapore. Expect sudden, short and heavy downpours during the afternoons and evenings. There isn’t much change in temperatures, though; daytime highs are around 30°C.

  • Check out colourful Peranakan artefacts at the Intan museum
  • Get hands-on with the interactive displays at the Art Science Museum

The northeast monsoon sets in and brings heavy showers making it one of the rainiest months along with November. Nevertheless, it’s one of the busiest times of the year, with visitors coming in during the second half of the month to celebrate the festive season and ring in the New Year. Be prepared for crowds and queues.

  • Catch a music show at the Esplanade
  • Discover boutiques, restaurants and quaint shops in Chinatown

Gardens By the Bay

Best Time to Visit Singapore – By season

Dry Season/Summer – The term ‘dry season’ can be slightly misleading for Singapore because it can rain at any time. But the dry period from February to August sees less rain, so even if you experience showers during your visit, it is likely to be short. The months of February, March and April see spring-like weather conditions, low rainfall and humidity levels, making it the best time to visit Singapore weather-wise.

June and July are Singapore’s busiest months. Schools are closed for summer, and it’s the start of the Great Singapore Sale and the Singapore Food Festival. From May to August, Singapore is covered in a haze that is the result of smoke from Sumatra.

Wet season/Winter – Singapore experiences its wet season from September to February, with November, December and January being the rainiest months. While you can expect rain during any month in Singapore, the wet season sees more intense and longer spells of rain. But even during this season, the weather can change quickly, and you will likely have dry periods and sunny skies, at least during some part of your holiday.

September and October are transition months and the weather is pleasant, making it one of the best times to visit Singapore.

Best Time to Visit Singapore- By Activity

Best Time for Outdoor Attractions – The best time to visit Singapore for its many outdoor attractions is from February to April and September and October. During this time, temperatures are pleasant, rainfall is comparatively lesser, and none of the haze of the summer months is present.

Best Time for Shopping – The Great Singapore Shopping Sale starts in late May and extends till the end of July, making this the best time to visit Singapore for great deals and discounts on some of the best brands in the world. You will also find special offers during the December-January festive season.

What to Pack for Singapore?

Singapore’s heat and humidity call for light clothing made from breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen and bamboo. The sun can bear down during the summer, so pack sunscreen, a sun hat and sunglasses. The city’s indoor spaces can get chilly since the air conditioning is cranked up to compensate for the heat outside, so carry a cardigan or sweater with you.

Smart casuals is the buzzword when it comes to dressing in Singapore. Chic tops, skirts and dresses for women and comfy T-shirts, shirts, shorts and trousers for men will work at most places. Pack at least one set of formal clothes for a night out or to dine at an upscale restaurant.

For beach days in Sentosa, pack at least one pair of swimwear and a coverup.

Raingear is a must, no matter which month you travel to Singapore. Carry a good-quality umbrella, rain jacket, or poncho to protect yourself from sudden downpours.

There’s plenty of walking to do indoors and outdoors in Singapore . Pack a pair of walking shoes and sandals that offer support and cushioning.

Stopover in Singapore

Tailor-make your trip in singapore.

Singapore is best experienced as a part of a stopover, either at the beginning or end of your trip to somewhere else in the region. It is not a place you would normally visit in its own right — it's just too small.

As a major hub within Southeast Asia it is perfect for visiting most countries in the region, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and of course Malaysia.

You can also easily pair it with other countries such as Cambodia and Malaysian Borneo in an Audley tailor-made itinerary.

48 hours in the city

Bumboat cruise on a Singapore River

We'd say you really need a minimum of 48 hours in Singapore to learn a little of its history and get a feel for the main sights.

Delve into Asian history and culture

Start your time in Singapore with a trip to the Asian Civilisations Museum, where you’ll find immersive displays that cleverly document some of the many cultures found in Asia. During your visit, you’ll learn about the continent’s diverse array of religions, trading traditions, and fashions through the ages, as well as the ways they interconnect and interact with the rest of the world.

Take a river trip in a bumboat

A relaxing and informative way to explore the river is on traditional bumboats which depart from regular piers on the quays.

At lunchtime you may like to relax in shady Fort Canning Park with great views over the city.

Visit a past POW camp

Continuing, a worthwhile trip just out of the city is to Changi Museum with poignant reminders of Changi Prison’s history as a World War II POW camp.

Singapore's historical Chinatown district

Explore Chinatown

A good contrast on day two would be to visit Chinatown, one of Singapore’s most historically intact areas.

Among the highlights are Amoy Street with tastefully renovated shophouses, the Hindu Sri Mariamman Temple and stunning Thian Hock Buddhist Temple. The nearby Chinatown Heritage Centre is our favourite museum in Singapore.

Little India

To continue your exploration of Singapore’s diverse culture continue to Little India where the fortune tellers, spice and aromatic curry stalls and Indian music around Serangoon Road recreate the subcontinent in miniature.

Take in the views from the Singapore Flyer

In the evening you might like to take a sunset trip on the Singapore Flyer — Singapore’s larger version of the London Eye. The Esplanade Theatres on the Bay often host world-class concerts, musicals and plays which are worth booking in advance. Or simply relax by the river and sample some of Singapore’s sensational cuisine.

A further 24 hours in Singapore

Beach on Sentosa Island

Encounter Singapore's wildlife

Having spent a day or two exploring the main highlights of the city you may like to spend a day relaxing on the beach or familiarising yourself with some of Southeast Asia’s wildlife.

Sentosa Island — beaches, parks and gardens

Sentosa Island is Singapore’s playground for all ages with attractive beaches, amusement parks, gardens and a fascinating underwater world. There are a couple of good hotels on the island that offer a different option to staying in the city.

Visit a tropical jungle

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve takes you back to a time when Singapore was swathed in virgin rainforest. Home to an incredible variety of insects, birds and plants with good walking trails this is a great place to acclimatise before exploring other tropical jungles of Asia.

Extreme turbulence is rare – but the best precaution is extremely simple

Beneath the desk on which I am writing this column is a grey plastic box with the dimensions of a jerry can, as well as a convenient handle. It is, the label informs me in English, a Simplicity Descending Life Line.

I am on the second storey of the excellent Dae Young Hotel, a 10-minute walk from the main railway station in Seoul, South Korea.

Upon checking the window frame, I see there is a sturdy “supporter ring” embedded on the left-hand side. In the event of a fire, the instructions show in pictures that I should hook the Life Line onto this ring, strap the other end – a large belt – around my chest, hurl the reel of rope out of the window and clamber out after it, hanging on to the rope as I abseil down the wall of the hotel.

Frankly, without a comprehensive training programme I think such an attempted escape is likely to cause more damage than taking my chances on the stairs – which have fire extinguishers on every landing, I note.

The most valuable precaution in any hotel is to scope out the fastest escape route.

While I am not sure that the Descending Life Line lives up to its Simplicity branding, I am a huge advocate of reducing risk to travellers, whether in hotels or on board aircraft.

Tragically, on a Singapore Airlines flight from London Heathrow this week, one man died after the Boeing 777 encountered severe turbulence over Myanmar; Geoff Kitchen, a 73-year-old from Somerset, suffered a heart attack.

Dozens more were badly hurt, some with very serious spinal and brain injuries. They were the passengers and crew who were in harm’s way when the aircraft suddenly dropped. While it must have felt as though they were propelled upwards and hit the ceiling, in fact they remained where they were while the cabin floor fell away and the ceiling descended to strike them.

Such an incident is unprecedented in this century. Even in the most severe turbulence, fatalities are extremely rare; the most recent incident I can find was in December 1997 aboard a United Airlines flight from Tokyo to Honolulu, in which one person died and 102 were injured.

But, says Iata, the International Air Transport Association, “Turbulence is increasing.” The airlines’ alliance says: “Each year, a significant number of people are injured by turbulence while not wearing seatbelts.

“Cabin attendants are particularly at risk.”

This last point is crucial: first, because everyone deserves a safe workplace; second, because cabin crew are safety-critical and need to be at the top of their game on landing in case an emergency evacuation is required. If they are badly injured, they cannot carry out this task.

Each airline has its own policy about meal service while the seat belt signs are on. In my experience, most serve meals but not hot drinks during mild turbulence.

That was the prevailing policy on Singapore Airlines . But after the tragic incident aboard SQ321, the airline has now decided that any significant turbulence, causing the pilots to switch on the fasten seatbelt sign, will mean the meal service is suspended with the trolleys locked away. This has two benefits: it reduces the risk of industrial injuries to cabin crew and cuts the number of items which could potentially go flying around the cabin.

Passengers, meanwhile, have their safety in their hands: keep that seatbelt fastened, tightly, all the time you are sitting down. You would not, after all, travel by car without being strapped in. While aviation is many times safer than going by road, you are much more likely to be hurt by being hurled around during turbulence than to be involved in a plane crash.

I have experienced two episodes of violent turbulence: one, coincidentally, on Singapore Airlines flying from Heathrow to Singapore over Ukraine (this was a while ago); the other on Austrian Airlines over Croatia during a Vienna-Cairo flight. No one was hurt in either but the feeling of being shaken violently was profoundly uncomfortable. I likened it to being on a theme park ride that you can’t leave.

Ever since, I have kept my belt securely fastened except when stretching my legs or using the washroom. When the going gets bumpy, it is reassuring: given that modern aircraft cannot be brought down by turbulence, when you feel anchored to the seat you feel much safer.

And unlike that Simplicity Descending Life Line, you need not be a skilled acrobat to avail of this safety measure. Just cautious.

How to use Google Flights to find cheap flights and maximize your next travel booking

Clint Henderson

Editor's Note

Google Flights is constantly evolving, but it's the one tool I always mention when people ask me how to find better flight prices.

This easy-to-use website can help you find the best possible price on airfare (and even hotels). It's one of the biggest weapons in our arsenal at TPG to help save money on travel. While TPG does offer deal alerts , if you are looking for a particular flight, destination, airline or routing, Google Flights is the way to find personalized deals.

Google Flights is where I almost always begin my search for new bookings. I come back to it again and again to book trips, see if prices have dropped and check if I can get a better deal.

Now, it even shows fares for Southwest Airlines flights .

Here's everything you need to know to use and master Google Flights.

What is Google Flights?

best time to visit singapore from uk

Google Flights is one of our favorite tools for finding deals on flights. It's an amazingly powerful flight search engine, and the best part is that it's easy to use. Google shows you nearly all available flights for a search but doesn't force you to book with it.

Unlike Expedia, Orbitz, Tripadvisor or Kayak, it's not an online travel agency. Google is simply showing you what's available. Once you find the flights you like, you "click through" to actually book. You can choose to book directly with the airline or via a third-party OTA, but not Google itself.

Previously, Google Flights didn't show fares for Southwest Airlines flights, but this week, Southwest started allowing Google Flights to show what it is selling, too. This makes Google Flights even more useful.

Some other new features at Google Flights

Google has also introduced new features that suggest when prices are historically lowest and when you should book for maximum savings. Google has always shown whether the price for a suggested flight itinerary is typical, low or high, but now it gives you even more data to consider.

The tool will "let travelers know when airfares are expected to be lowest for booking their chosen dates and destination," according to Craig Ewer, who works in communications at Google.

For example, when I searched last year, Google showed me that a flight from New York to San Francisco in October was $93 cheaper than usual, and the typical range is between $245 and $415. In other words, it was a good time to book.

best time to visit singapore from uk

It gets even better: In some situations, Google will suggest alternate dates you should actually book the flight to save a few bucks. The example below shows that a December flight to Miami would have been much cheaper if I had waited to book it until Sept. 13.

Here's a final example. I apparently waited too long to book my flight home for Christmas.

Basics of Google Flights

How to perform a basic flight search.

First, you'll want to navigate to Google Flights .

best time to visit singapore from uk

The toolbar has additional features for trips, including things to do, hotels, vacation rentals and a shortcut to a cool tool called "Explore." However, we'll focus on using the tool to book flights for now.

All of the fields and drop-down menus on this page are relatively easy to decipher:

  • Departure (where you want to fly from)
  • Destination (where you want to fly to)
  • Date(s) of travel
  • Round-trip flights, one-way flights or multicity trips
  • The number of passengers (but here's why you should search for a single ticket , even if you're traveling in a group)
  • Ticket class: economy, premium economy, business class or first class

If you know where you're going and when you want to be there, all you have to do is plug in that information and hit the blue search button.

For example, here are all the options I see when I search for flights from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to San Francisco International Airport (SFO). You can search by destination or by airport code.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Note that Google automatically displays what it considers the best departing flights based on a combination of factors, such as price, the convenience of routing, the number of stops and the travel time. Of course, these may or may not be the best flights for you.

In this case, there are hundreds of options to choose from.

best time to visit singapore from uk

For this example, I chose to book an American Airlines flight on my outbound trip.

The cheapest option is sometimes to fly the return on a different carrier. However, Google Flights clearly indicates there will be two tickets purchased separately.

Often, Google will suggest remaining on the same carrier for both legs. In this instance, one of the flights was on JetBlue.

There are all kinds of ways to filter your searches. We'll get a bit more into that below.

Google Flights now works with Southwest Airlines

Traditionally, prices for Southwest flights didn't show up on Google Flights, but that has now changed, as you can see in the screenshot below.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Once you've found the flight you want, you have the option to book directly with the airline. Google will give you several options for the type of ticket you want to purchase, including basic economy, refundable and other types of fares.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Clicking the blue button would take me to the American Airines website , with these flights and prices already selected. There, I could enter my passenger details and loyalty number, select a seat and pay for the ticket.

All elite perks and other loyalty benefits are honored on flights booked directly on the airline website via Google Flights. However, if you are booking via a third-party site, that may not be the case. It pays to make sure you book directly with the airline if possible.

In this example, the cheapest option is for mixed tickets with multiple stops. Most people are not going to want to take that option. It involves booking through a third-party website with tickets on different airlines and multiple flights and layovers. No thanks.

Below is an example of Google Flights' handy historical price guide, which shows whether the fare you found is low, high or near the average price for flights on this route.

I can see the flights were more than $600 a few months ago, and my $423 fare was considered low. Given how expensive airfare generally is these days , I was happy enough with that.

best time to visit singapore from uk

The bottom of this screenshot also shows the options available at the bottom of each Google Flights page, where you can select your preferred language from a drop-down menu. You can also customize your location and preferred currency for easy conversion.

Search by specific times of day

Say you want to take a weekend trip. You need both flights to be outside business hours but not too late in the evening, as you don't want to land in the middle of the night.

Google Flights has a handy filter we use to make sure the flights are exactly when we want them. No matter how inexpensive that 6 a.m. flight may be, a 3:30 a.m. wake-up call rarely feels worth it.

So, you can set the search results to only show flights departing and arriving within your chosen specific time range.

best time to visit singapore from uk

See how many bags you can bring on board

In the same series of buttons below your Google Flight search, click on the "Bags" button to specify how many pieces of luggage you want to bring on board with you.

This selection may greatly limit your search results — or drive up your price options — so be prepared to change it if necessary.

Nonstop, one-stop or any flight will do?

Similarly, you can filter flights by the number of stops along the way. You might be the glutton for punishment who longs for a 50-plus-hour flight with multiple layovers. You can do that if you so desire.

However, if you want to minimize the chance of delays or disruptions, have a family to rush back to or just want a shorter flight, nonstop is your friend. Headed overseas? The usual sweet spot between price and comfort will be a one-stop flight.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Search for flights from your preferred airline or alliance

If you don't fly often, the operating airline may not matter to you as much as the price does.

However, if you've begun accumulating miles and status with a specific carrier, it can be addictive to stick with that carrier and program. The exclusive benefits of elite status can be exhilarating, and there's nothing more exciting than booking your first award flight — especially if you know you got an amazing deal.

Related: What are airline alliances, and who's in them?

With filtered airline search results, Google can help you keep that momentum going. Use the button under the search results to filter out unwanted airlines or select specific airline alliances you want to patronize. Or, turn off the "Select all airlines" option and manually select the carriers you want to choose from.

Whether booking with cash or points, you may want to stick with one program to maximize mileage earning or status. For example, if I were trying to hit Diamond on Delta Air Lines, I would search only for Delta flights.

best time to visit singapore from uk

You can also pick airline alliances like Oneworld and SkyTeam to ensure you travel on your preferred airline or its partners. In my case, I would select SkyTeam.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Connecting flights

You can also decide if you want to fly nonstop or choose how many stops you are willing to make. You can even choose the connecting airport.

Especially with international flights, some airports are better to connect in than others. Helsinki Airport (HEL) is lovely. Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) can be challenging , even if you are an experienced traveler.

Related: What are the best European airports to connect in?

If you have a range of options to travel from New York to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO) with a choice of connecting airports, you can filter the results to only show the airports you want to connect through.

best time to visit singapore from uk

You can also choose how long you would like your layover to extend. You might want to keep it short to reach your destination as quickly as possible. Or, you may prefer a long layover to allow for some buffer time in the event of delays.

Score the best legroom and other seat amenities

best time to visit singapore from uk

Don't you hate boarding a flight to find your knees touching the back of the seat in front of you? Fortunately, Google Flights has a feature that will show you the legroom you can expect on your next flight before you have purchased the seat.

Legroom can differ noticeably from carrier to carrier, aircraft type to aircraft type. From the search results below, you can see that Spirit Airlines' is below the industry average at 28 inches, while JetBlue's is above average at 32 inches.

If you value legroom, this means the JetBlue option will have 4 inches more legroom than Spirit.

In coach seating terms, that's a lot.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Along with legroom, Google Flights will also indicate if Wi-Fi is scheduled to be available on your flight (and if it is free or available at a cost), if the plane has in-seat charging options, and if the flight offers entertainment like live TV or options to stream to your personal device.

On a flight longer than five hours, your devices may run out of juice. So, again, you may want to choose the product that best suits your needs rather than selecting a flight based entirely on price or carrier.

Know your emissions

With sustainability becoming an increasingly important topic in travel , Google Flights will let you know the approximate carbon emissions for your flight based on the route, aircraft type and seating classes.

Below are the search results for a flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Tokyo's Narita International Airport (NRT). United Airlines operates a fuel-efficient Boeing 787 on this route, which would produce a lower-than-average 734 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

However, the Singapore Airlines flight uses a less fuel-efficient (and larger) Boeing 777 aircraft that produces a higher-than-average 1,163 kilograms of carbon dioxide.

You can even filter your search results only to show lower-emissions flight options.

best time to visit singapore from uk

How to search by cheapest dates

Let's say I want to get from JFK to LAX in September, but I'm not tied to any specific dates. Google Flights can help me find the best possible prices for that trip.

On the search page, I can see the lowest price for that particular day if I click on the calendar icon. Prices listed in green represent the lowest price available across all current dates, while the days highlighted in blue show which dates I've selected.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Another way to view the cheapest dates is to click the date grid option. This will again show the cheapest dates in green, and you can easily line up different outbound and inbound options to see if the cheapest dates work for you.

best time to visit singapore from uk

You'll often find that the cheapest flight isn't necessarily the best or most convenient route. Google will show you those lowest prices but prioritize better routes before it.

In this example, Google Flights prioritizes slightly higher fares as the "best flights" search results because they include a full-size carry-on bag.

best time to visit singapore from uk

How to set a pricing alert for yourself

After all that diligent work, give yourself a pat on the back. You've likely found the best option for you.

Some people are ready to book immediately, but most of us might need a day or two to solidify our plans with our fellow travelers or with work. Never fear: Google will help you track your flight and even tell you when the price goes up or down.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Immediately above your search results, a little toggle reads "Track prices" (boxed in green in the screenshot above).

Click on that — and log in to your Google account if necessary — and Google Flights will send updated pricing alerts directly into your inbox.

If you have booked a refundable or changeable fare, you may want to switch this on even after you've booked. You will be alerted if the price goes up or down, so you can feel comfortable knowing you are getting the best deal. You can see part of my list of flights I'm currently tracking in the screenshot below.

How to search multiple airports at once

Sometimes, you're willing to land or depart a bit farther away in order to find a better flight deal. Google Flights can help reward that flexibility. In fact, you can enter as many as five departure or arrival airports on Google Flights.

Let's say you live in New York City, where you have three major airports from which to choose. You want to fly to Southern California, which is easily accessible from multiple airports as well.

There are two ways to run this search:

  • Type in your city name and let Google offer suggestions: This works for many major metro areas. As soon as I type in New York, I see several of the major airports: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and JFK. Sometimes, you'll even see New York Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Newburgh, about 60 miles north of Manhattan, as an option.
  • Manually type in your airport codes or names : Some cities won't show you all the logical potential airports. For Southern California, you will have to manually type in the names or codes of each airport in the area for some searches. (Don't forget San Diego International Airport [SAN] as a potential option.)

best time to visit singapore from uk

You can open a separate browser tab and look up local airports by name. Or, if you're a pro and know the codes, you can type them directly into the destination airport search field (i.e., LAX, SNA, BUR, ONT). Then, hit the blue check to run the search.

Voila: The cheapest option for March 18-25 is taking a nonstop, round-trip flight from EWR to LAX for $258 in United basic economy.

best time to visit singapore from uk

How to check for carry-on bag policies

I don't care what anyone says: Low-cost carriers can be fantastic for finding great deals.

However, if you're a heavy packer, you'll need to plan ahead. Many airlines cut costs by charging extra for bags. You're used to this with major airlines, but some ultra-low-cost airlines will even charge you for carry-ons larger than a backpack or a purse .

It can be difficult to track which airlines charge what, but Google Flights can also help with that.

Basic economy flights will show on the search results page, with the little "no luggage" icon next to the $247 price tag in green.

best time to visit singapore from uk

When I click through to the final booking page, Google will remind me again that I'm booking a basic economy flight; it'll show my current price and its limitations while also displaying economy and first-class booking options next to it.

Organize your travel

There's a "Travel" button on the toolbar of Google Flights.

It will display the travel you have already booked. When you click on the trip, it neatly shows travel booked through your Google account, such as those reservation emails sent to a Gmail account.

best time to visit singapore from uk

It will also show "potential trips." This is where you may have been searching Google Flights for a particular destination but have not yet bought the ticket. Additionally, it will provide suggestions based on what destinations you've Googled in general.

Perhaps you have searched for " When is the best time to visit Hawaii ?" Google Flights may show you suggestions to help you continue planning that trip.

Finally, the "Travel" button will suggest trips you might consider taking based on upcoming trips you have booked or trips you've taken in the past.

For example, if you've been to Melbourne, Australia, it may show options to visit Sydney.

How to find the best getaway deal

This function is similar to the previous tip but focuses on another aspect of your search. Start by clicking the "Explore" button on the toolbar.

If you know you want to get away on specific dates — let's say the second week of October — but don't have a specific destination in mind, use Google's open-ended search functionality to find good flight deals within your window of availability.

In the example below, I picked a long weekend in October and set my hometown of New York as my departure airport. Instead of specifying a destination, I just left it open-ended. You can give Google a hint by typing "Europe" or "Caribbean" to narrow your search results to a specific region.

I can also force the algorithm to show me price points for a specific region.

For example, the world map above doesn't show me many deals for Australia, South America or Africa. However, if I zoom in on Africa, I see more than half a dozen options on the continent and more than a dozen in "surrounding" areas.

Bottom line

Google Flights is an incredibly powerful tool the TPG team uses daily to price airfare . It can help you quickly find the best flights for your travel, but it can also track prices and let you know if you are getting a good deal. It can also help you plan trips and find hotels and activities.

It's one of my favorite tools to find deals and new places to visit. Add it to your travel toolbox. I promise it will become one of your favorites, too.

How to Watch and Stream the 2024 Monaco GP

F1 is heading to one of the most iconic tracks in the sport for this weekend's Grand Prix.

best time to visit singapore from uk

Formula One is returning to Monaco for the 81st time in the sport's history. The Circuit de Monaco is one of the most famous tracks in F1 history, and the Monaco Grand Prix is one of the most illustrious races in the world of motorsports. There's even a special name for winning the Indianapolis 500 (coincidentally held on the same day as the Monaco GP this year), the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Monaco GP --  The Triple Crown . Only Graham Hill has completed the epic feat, but many other drivers have competed in all three iconic races.

The Monaco GP follows the Emilia Romagna GP, which saw Red Bull's Max Verstappen take home yet another first place. Fans can expect fairly limited overtaking this weekend, since the Monaco Grand Prix is typically won by the driver with the best strategy, but that doesn't mean that overtaking is impossible.

After last week's Grand Prix, Verstappen hangs on to first with 161 points, Ferrari's Charles LeClerc moves into second place with 113 points and Red Bull's Sergio Perez falls to third with 107 points.

The Monaco Grand Prix will follow the traditional race weekend format, with three practice sessions across Friday and Saturday, a Saturday qualifying and a Sunday Race.

The main race, which takes place on Sunday, May 26, at 8:55 a.m ET (5:55 a.m PT) will be held at the Circuit de Monaco. The race will air on ABC and ESPN Plus.

The entire race weekend, including practice sessions and qualifying, will be shown in the US on ESPN's family of TV and streaming networks. Folks looking to follow all of it will need access to the ABC and ESPN news channels on cable or live TV streaming services, or the ESPN Plus streaming service. We've broken down everything you need to know to stream today's race, and all the other F1 races this season.

It's Charles Leclerc's home race -- will he be able to bring home a first place for Ferrari?

When, where and what time are the races?

Races are held on Sunday and are usually spaced two weeks apart. Here's the entire schedule.

F1 2024 schedule

Best option for streaming in the us , carries f1 races in the us.

Whether or not you have cable, ESPN's stand-alone streaming service is great for casual fans of Formula 1 and is a must-have accessory for fanatics. It costs $11 a month (or $110 a year) and currently, ESPN has a deal with F1 to show 18 out of 23 Grands Prix this year. The catch is that ESPN Plus doesn't always air the free practice or qualifying sessions, but it tends to air Sprint races and the Sprint Shootout.

If you're an F1 fan who's also looking to get your Disney fix, the Disney trio bundle (Hulu, Disney Plus and ESPN Plus) might end up being an even better buy. It's great for fans who love catching the parts of the race weekend that typically air on EPSN2 or ESPNews, and who need the latest Marvel movies or Star Wars shows.

If you're a diehard fan of motorsports and Formula series racing, ESPN Plus might not be for you, given that it rarely covers F2, F3 or Porsche Supercar racing. That's why ESPN Plus is ideal for casual fans who enjoy catching a race every once in a while, or super fans who don't want or need all of the extra bells and whistles of F1 TV, but want to beef up their coverage options.

If you find yourself unable to view the race locally, you may need a different way to watch -- that's where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on race day by encrypting your traffic, and it's also a great idea if you're traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you're able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our  Editors' Choice, ExpressVPN , make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you're streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Other options for streaming in the US without cable

Beyond ESPN Plus, numerous live TV streaming services carry channels with F1. Race weekends normally start on Friday with multiple practice runs and continue on Saturday with qualifying. The races themselves take place Sunday. ESPN typically airs practices and qualifying on a mix of ESPN 2 and ESPNews, while the races tend to air on ESPN. F1 events in North America often land on ABC.

Here are some of the best ways to catch the entire race weekend without cable.

You can catch the entire race weekend with a subscription to YouTube TV, which costs $73 per month. ABC, ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPNews are all included in the package, which means you'll have all the channels you need in order to watch every second of the action.

Sling TV Orange

Sling TV offers ABC as well but only in select cities.
