Seoul Pub Crawl- What to do in Seoul at night?

Seoul residents, especially the many students, love to party and turn night into day! 

A typical party night in Seoul looks like this: You meet up with your friends for dinner and drink a lot of soju, a type of Korean vodka. Then you move on to one or more bars until you end up in a karaoke bar at some point in the early morning hours. 

Be warned: Almost all Koreans are gifted singers. Most of us don’t stand a chance! In the early morning, another meal is often eaten together before everyone goes about their regular daily routine as if nothing had happened. Sleep seems to be completely overrated here!

If you prefer to dance the night away instead of socializing with a few people in a bar, then Seoul’s lively club scene is probably the place for you! 

Two of the busiest areas in the evenings are Gangnam, which gave its name to the world hit of Psy at the time, and Hongdae, the university district. The selection of clubs is gigantic, but one club, the Octagon, regularly manages to get a top position in international rankings.

Nightlife in Seoul – Where to party in Seoul? 

Three areas in Seoul are particularly well known among travelers and young people for their high density of bars and clubs: Hongdae, Itaewon, and Gangnam.

Hongdae is arguably the best place for the average student to immerse themselves in the Korean nightlife. 

Countless clubs, cafes, and bars crowd along with three underground stations. There is something new to discover at every corner. There you can find cheap clubs and courtyards, so-called drinking houses, in which food must be ordered with the drinks. But the alcohol is all the more affordable. 

You can also go shopping cheaply or sit down with the street musicians and dancers who perform there in the evenings in this area.

Itaewon is the international district of Seoul. Most of the few foreigners who live permanently in Korea live in and around Itaewon. 

The clubs, bars, and restaurants there are accordingly mixed. 

One corner further on the so-called “Homo Hill,” there is one gay bar after the next.

The Gangnam district has also gained notoriety in Germany thanks to the Psy hit “Gangnam Style”. Those who have money and whose standards are high celebrate here. 

Clubs can extend over several floors. The style of clothing is essential. Only those who are appropriately dressed are allowed in here. You can pay the equivalent of $25 for a club visit. If you ask around your local fellow travelers and young people and get there early, you can also go to the fancier clubs for much cheaper.

Some of the best clubs in town:

• NB2 Club: Perhaps the most famous hip-hop club in Seoul! Located right next to Hongdae University, NB2 is very well known. The clientele there is relatively young (around their twenties, many students), and it is open every day! Try at least once if you are having a night out in Hongdae!
• Cocoon Club: One of the most popular Seoul clubs among young Seoulites. Open every day and accommodate up to 1000 people, you will sway to house, electro or hip-hop.
• TotoGa Club: If you want a genuinely Korean experience, you should try this place. It is very different from other clubs in Seoul with ONLY Korean music! The atmosphere is very nice because people go to eat and drink around their tables at the beginning of the evening, leaving the track empty. And after a while, they’ll all start dancing to some retro music that moves. 
• Octagon Club:  We saved the best for last: the only Octagon !! Ranked 7th in the world ahead of the Pacha of Ibiza in the DJ Mag ranking of the world’s best clubs, this club is just massive! In the large main room, the DJ stage is gigantic with a giant screen, and you will find EDM synchronized with the lighting effects. There are always a lot of people who come here, whether they are locals or tourists.

Known for its high energy parties every weekend, blasting K-pop and hip-hop music. Even the pool table doubles as a dance floor. Entrance is FREE, but expect a line after 12am on weekends.

9. Thursday Party Hongdae

Excellent international bar to meet local Koreans, foreigners and young international students. This place is a true melting pot and an excellent atmosphere. Entrance is FREE! Note: do come early!

10. Sinkhole

Low-key hiphop and R&B dive bar. A bit smaller than most venues but definitely a chill atmosphere and great to mingle.

Across the street from Sinkhole is NB2 aka Noise Basement, and here since 1999, has 2 floors and offers a wide range of music from modern pop to hiphop. Crowd is mostly Korean.

12. La Bamba

Are you in the mood for Latin vibes? Hit up La Bamba! Often rammed by midnight due to its convenient location, the party is at street level. Entrance is FREE

Itaewon  offers a global nightlife experience with its array of bars and clubs catering to an international crowd. The district is divided into three main areas: Bogwang-ro 59-gil (for the more laid-back alternative bars), Itaewan-ro 27ga-gil (for the absolute party lovers), and Noksapyeong-daero 40-gil (for the high-end cocktail bars), each offering its own unique nightlife vibe. Fountain and Jack’s Bar are among the top destinations, providing quality party experiences and the chance to mingle with both locals and expats. The Itaewon Pub Crawl  by Absolute for just $25 USD, is a fantastic way to explore the area's vibrant bar scene. Also, consider making sure to check out Ugly Society for breathtaking views, The White Rabbit Taphouse for an impressive selection of whiskeys, and Night Sounds for their weekly sexy burlesque shows and wild Korean girls. 13. Club Aura

Larger EDM clubs in Hongdae are Club G1 and Club Aura of which the latter is the more popular one, with massive lineups every weekend, and mostly Korean. Go here if you want to rave it up!

14. PINK's Rooftop

In the center of it all is PINK's. Its rooftop overlooks the main party streets of Hongdae. Prices are bit higher than average due to having a nice view but at least the entrance is FREE.

15. White Rabbit Taphouse

Known for their impressive selection of whiskeys and excellent draft beers. I usually start an Itaweon adventure here. A perfect place to kick off your night.

Down the street from the White Rabbit Taphouse is Coley. A bit pricey but a great place to mingle with foreigners. Their second floor is quite cozy and a great place to enjoy quality cocktails.

17. Dresser Bar

Perhaps the most high-end cocktail bar on cocktail street: 녹사평대로40나길. Interior decor is fantastic, classical style, but does require a high budget to enjoy a couple of drinks here. Their policy: no coffee & no beer

18. Ugly Society

Hidden rooftop with the most astonishing views of Itaewon! Located down at the less known party street: 보광로59길 (Bogwang-ro 59-gil). You'll find only Koreans here and it is perfect for a romantic date. However, this place can be hard to find, so download my map!

Understanding the local taxi system is crucial for seamless navigation through Seoul's streets. Taxis are plentiful, but being aware of the signs displayed can save you from unnecessary hassle. A red sign reading  빈 차  (bin cha) indicates the taxi is available, while a green sign reading  예약  (yeyag) signifies it's reserved. If you see  휴무  (hyumu) in blue, the taxi is off duty. This knowledge can prevent confusion and ensure a smoother experience when traveling around the city, especially during the bustling nightlife hours.

19. Night Sounds

Also located on 보광로59길 (Bogwang-ro 59-gil), and famous for its spicy weekend burlesque events with a high-energy crowd. Enjoy shows on Friday and Saturday at 12:30am. Entrance is FREE

For some good low-key Korean hiphop events checkout the Parlour, around the block from Night Sounds. Entrance is FREE

21. Itaewon Pub Crawl

As a newcomer to Seoul, you must join the Seoul Pub Crawl by Absolute in Itaewon, so you can familiarize yourself with the nightlife and most current nightclubs. Just $17 USD including many free shots. 4 Bars + 1 Nightclub in 6 hours of epic fun!

22. Jack's Bar

My favorite bar in Itaewon is Jack's Bar on the most popular party street: 이태원로 27가길 (Itaewon-ro 27-ga-gil). Complete arcade games like Initial D, mega jenga, DDR and retro games like Street Fighter II. Beers ₩5000 won ($4 USD), cocktails ₩7000 won ($5 USD)

23. Fountain

Most popular nightclub in Itaewon is by far Fountain. Massive venue with multiple floor, incredible decor, arcade games, and solid beats. From Top40 to retro 80s, and a young energetic crowd. Beer $5 USD, cocktails $7 USD

24. Thursday Party Itaewon

Just like Thursday Party in Hongdae, Itaewon has also a great one. Go here to meet young international students in a pretty laid-back, but fun environment.

Gangnam  is synonymous with luxury and high-energy clubs. Despite the recent closure of Club Octagon , one of Seoul’s most iconic nightclubs. The area also boasts chic cocktail bars like Le Chamber and Alice , providing a more intimate setting for sophisticated nightlife explorers. However, Gangnam isn’t as popular as it used to be; many bars and clubs have closed down over the years.

25. Grand Ole Opry

A night in Itaewon wouldn't be complete without a visit to Mama Kim’s Grand Ole Opry, which she runs since 1975 at 84 years old and has the lowest prices in all of Seoul. Beers starts at ₩3000 won ($2 USD). Considered the final resting place for the drunk ones among us.

26. Off The Record

A fantastic vinyl bar which takes song requests, especially vinyl ones and is another great place before you go out. I'd even consider it a good date spot.

27. Le Style Bar

Close to Euljiro you'll find Le Style Bar atop the Ibis Styles Hotel. One of Seoul finest rooftops with breathtaking views of the city and N Seoul Tower. Go here to watch romantic sunsets! Entrance is FREE but buying a drinks is expected. Drinks start at $9 USD. I do recommend making a reservation prior.

28. SocialDive

Though some people consider Korea’s capital a rather straight-laced city, they’ve clearly never been there after dark. While days may remain businesslike and formal, come 9 p.m. Seoul’s citizens let loose and flock to the thousands of bars, karaoke rooms, and nightclubs spread across the city. Some districts turn into nightly carnivals of takeout drinks, street food, and never-ending parties, but there are also more placid places to listen to some tunes with a fine whiskey or champagne. From boisterous to basic, Seoul’s got dozens of options to entice the nightlife inclined.

You can bet that in a city of around 10 million people, there are going to be a lot of bars. Add Korea’s lively drinking culture to the mix and chances are you can find at least one bar on any street, in any neighborhood in Seoul.

Ranging from upscale to down-to-earth, here are just a few of Seoul’s unique watering holes:

• Cobbler Bar: Set in a hanok (traditional Korean house) in a labyrinthine area near Gyeongbokgung Palace, the upscale yet homey Cobbler Bar has no menu. There’s a wide range of whiskies, and the cocktails consist of whatever ingredients the bartender dreams up that day.
• Flower Gin: For possibly the most beautiful cocktail you’ve ever tried, head to Flower Gin in Itaewon. This teeny-tiny gin bar-cum-florist has flower infused and topped gin and tonics that are almost too pretty to drink.
• Charles H: For a more sophisticated (albeit pricey) tipple, the speakeasy-style Charles H bar at the Four Seasons Seoul offers classic and creative cocktails in a subterranean, art nouveau setting. Come dressed to impress and ready to pay the bar's cover charge.
• Sangsu-ri: This low-key, whiskey-filled establishment walks the line between trendy and under the radar. Well before South Korea’s whiskey trend kicked off, Sangsu-ri’s owner was already a passionate lover of the amber liquid, and imports his favorite bottles from Scotland.
• Mike’s Cabin: This trendy pub in a Hongdae basement is decorated to look like a log cabin, and the wide array of games (beer pong anyone?), bar snacks, and international beverage options makes it a popular hangout for young expats and university students.

Late-Night Restaurants

With the prolific drinking culture that permeates South Korea, most restaurants stay open well into the night. While most dining establishments in Seoul are open until at least 11 p.m., many in the busy nightlife areas stay open until 3 a.m. to cater to boisterous revelers spilling out from the bars and clubs. Some are even open 24 hours a day!

Among these late night eateries are Korean cafes, fried chicken joints, barbecue restaurants, and pizza places, not to mention hundreds of street food vendors, and the domestic and international fast-food eateries like Lotteria, McDonalds and Burger King. If you can't find any open restaurants, make like a local and grab an instant ramen from one of Seoul’s thousands of 24-hour convenience stores. You can microwave and eat it on the spot. All that said, don’t panic; there's always some where to get a meal in South Korea’s capital city.

Night Clubs

Night clubs are big business in Seoul, with the majority situated in the university district of Hongdae, or south of the Han River in the fashionable Gangnam area. Most clubs charge a cover and have strict dress codes, but if you like to party until dawn—or later—it’s well worth it.

• Club Octagon : Set on two levels, this massive, warehouse-sized space in Gangnam is constantly rated one of Seoul’s best clubs, and is stomping ground of some of the biggest names in K-Pop. A strict dress code is well-enforced, and the entry fee is more expensive for foreigners.
• Club Arena: Occupying two basement floors separated into hip-hop and EDM zones, Club Arena in Gangnam is one of Seoul’s most exclusive clubs. The blackened decor lit with laser lights showcases a young and beautiful crowd often made up of models, TV stars, and sports celebrities. Arena is also considered an “afterclub” which means the partying continues well after dawn—and some days until nearly noon.
• Cakeshop : Though smaller than some of its massive rivals, what Itaewon's Cakeshop lacks in size it makes up for in experience. Rated “Best Club in Seoul” by Seoul-based 10 Magazine, Cakeshop is known for featuring sets by well-known artists like Shlomo and Nosaj Thing. Cakeshop is open from Thursday to Sunday.
• NB2: Considered the best party in the best club in the best nightlife district in all of Seoul, NB2 has a lot to live up to. But it meets and exceeds expectations as this uber-popular club blasts hip-hop nightly until 6 a.m. Needless to say, there’s often a wait to get in.

While Seoul is increasingly known for it's the hundreds of K-Pop acts, there are very few live music venues for a city of its size. But that's not to say there are no good options for live music. In fact, over the past few years jazz bars of different calibers have sprung up all over the city making it possible to see live music any night of the week. Rock, heavy metal, and other genres are harder to find live regularly, but there are always special shows and concerts happening around the capital on any given weekend.

Check out these regular live music venues to get your groove started after the sun sets.

• All That Jazz : All That Jazz opened in Itaewon in 1976 making it the grand-dame of all Seoul’s jazz clubs. The SoHo loft-style space has live jazz seven nights a week, accompanied by an Italian-inspired menu, and an extensive international wine and cocktail list.
• Club FF : For live rock performances, you’ll want to check out Club FF in Hongdae. This grungy-chic basement-level bar and music venue is characterized by indie bands, dance parties, and all-you-can-drink happy hours. There’s a modest cover charge on weekends.
• The Timber House : This cosmopolitan cocktail lounge on the lower level of the Park Hyatt Seoul in Gangnam is one of Seoul’s best hotel bars. Along with a grand piano and nightly live vocal performances, there’s also a substantial vinyl library and turntables. In addition to the music and elegant ambiance, the bar also offers Japanese sakes and Korean sojus, plus a rare whiskey, and vintage wine and champagne menu.

Karaoke Rooms

Singing at a norae bang (karaoke room) is the nighttime activity that rules them all in Seoul, so if you’ve never been to one before you’re in for a real treat. 

Literally found in every neighborhood, norae bangs can range from super luxurious to downright dingy, but all are rented privately so there’s no need to worry about singing in front of complete strangers. Every norae bang features the main components needed to belt your heart out: microphones, lyrics flashing across big-screen TVs, and Bible-thick books filled with thousands of the most popular karaoke songs to choose from (fun fact: Let it Go from Frozen is one of the most-requested norae bang songs of all time). 

Upscale singing rooms will also add flashing disco lights, canned applause, electronic scoring systems, plush furnishings, and sometimes a variety of loaner musical instruments. In order to participate in the silliness, you may find it necessary to consume copious amounts of beer or soju, which you can usually buy from the front desk.

Tips for Going Out in Seoul

• Subways close at midnight, but taxis and some bus lines run 24 hours.
• Taxis are generally easy to find and hail on the street, but may be busy on weekends in popular nightlife areas such as Hongdae, Gangnam, or Itaewon.
• Taxis fares incur a late night surcharge of 20 percent between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.
• A form of Uber is available in Seoul, with a fleet of English-speaking international taxi drivers available through the regular Uber app.
• There is no official closing time for bars and clubs, and many stay open until 6 a.m. Afterclubs often stay open until noon!
• While most bars and clubs welcome foreigners, a few have been known to discriminate against non-Koreans (unfortunately there are no anti-discrimination laws in Korea).
• Tipping is not common in Korean culture, and some people will even be offended if you try to tip them.
• There’s no law prohibiting public drinking in Korea. In fact, a popular pastime is gathering with your friends at convenience stores to drink beers or soju on picnic tables or plastic chairs set on the sidewalk outside. Cocktails sold in portable bags are also prevalent in all the major nightlife areas.

Dua Lipa Reveals Dates for Asia Leg of Radical Optimism Tour

The tour kicks off in Singapore on November 6th and is scheduled to conclude in Seoul on December 4th.

GRAMMY and 7x BRIT Award-winning global pop powerhouse Dua Lipa has announced the Asia leg of her upcoming Radical Optimism Tour, produced by Live Nation. The tour kicks off in Singapore on November 6th and stops in Jakarta, Manila, Tokyo, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, and Bangkok, before concluding in Seoul on December 4th.

The tour announcement comes on the heels of Dua releasing her third album, Radical Optimism, which went straight to No. 1 in 11 countries, including the UK where it became the biggest album debut from a UK artist in 2024 and garnered the highest week one sales from a UK female artist since 2021. In the US, the album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking Dua’s biggest sales week yet. It was named a Critic’s Pick by The New York Times, who hailed it is “an album of nonstop ear candy,” along with Variety, who declared it is “a joyous blast of pop savvy.” Additionally, The New Yorker praised, “the instrumentation is a gleaming and impenetrable expanse, and the main attraction is Lipa,” and Vogue raved it is “a summery, self-assured slice of pop brilliance…[and] catchy as hell.”

Dua previously announced the first run of tour dates in support of Radical Optimism with shows in Berlin, Pula, and Nimes taking place in June, which sold out immediately. In addition, Dua will make her Pyramid Stage debut as the Friday night headliner at this year’s Glastonbury Festival on June 28th and will play a show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on October 17th, the latter of which also sold out immediately.

Earlier today (May 29), Dua Lipa took to Instagram to publish a photo dump of her last visit to Japan. In the caption, she wrote: “wowowowww summer tour dates start in 1 week and I can’t wait!!!! So I thought why not add… MORE TOUR! Asia in November it’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to be back!!!!”

The tour, which is in support of her third album ‘Radical Optimism’ , will consist of nine stops in the region, beginning in Singapore and ending in Seoul, South Korea. Lipa will also perform in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan and Taiwan.

Live Nation members can secure tickets first during exclusive pre-sales for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – taking place on Monday, June 10, from 11am until 11:59pm local time – and Singapore – Wednesday, June 12, from 10am until 11:59pm.

For Singaporean fans, pre-sales for American Express cardholders will take place from June 10, 10am until June 11, 10am. General ticket sales will commence on June 11 for Kuala Lumpur at 11am onwards via GoLive Asia , and June 13 at 10am onwards via Ticketmaster for Singapore.

This marks Dua Lipa’s first time in the region since 2018 on the Self-Titled Tour, where she performed in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The ‘Radical Optimism’ Asia tour will see the pop star perform a headlining show in Indonesia for the first time – she last appeared there in 2019 as part of a Lazada Super Party event.

Dua Lipa is set to launch her ‘Radical Optimism’ tour in Berlin, Germany on June 5 at the Waldbühne, with other dates in Croatia and France before embarking on a festival run in Europe – notably, a headlining set at Glastonbury Festival , along with Poland’s Open’er Festival , Belgium’s Rock Werchter, Spain’s Mad Cool Festival and Portugal’s NOS Alive Festival .

So far, Lipa’s only dates in the US for the year are at Austin City Limits in Texas, where she will perform on October 5 and 12. A week later, she will perform a one-night engagement at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
