Antiques Road Trip finally returns with presenters attempting to make show history

Antiques Road Trip is finally returning to BBC One today for its 21 st  series, with Britain’s favourite experts getting back in their classic cars for treasure-hunting and profit-making.

The new chapter will see five pairs of experts heading off across the country on their own unique Road Trip adventures, competing to find the hidden gems that will make the most profit at auction.

As always, the presenters will be making pit-stops at some of Britain’s most intriguing historic and cultural sites en route – with plenty of banter and friendly competition guaranteed along the way. 

Joining the series for the first time is London-based antique dealer Serhat Ahmet, who will be setting off alongside Road Trip regular Christina Trevanion to see which treasures they can both discover.

The other pairs of experts competing include James Braxton and Charles Hanson, Margie Cooper and Natasha Raskin Sharp, Philip Serrell and Tim Medhurs, and Catherine Southon and Izzie Balmer.

Ahead of the new series airing, Serhat enthused: ‘I’m over the moon to be joining the Antiques Road Trip team. It was such a blast travelling across the country with true Road Trip doyenne Christina Trevanion – even if my nerves have only just recovered from the excitement of the auctions!

‘I hope viewers have as much fun watching our adventures as we did taking part in them.’

Some of the more unusual antiques uncovered in the new series – which will air every weekday at 4:30pm until Friday 11 December – include an animal-shaped cocktail maker, some Georgian sugar nips, and even a chair made for the investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969.

Christina Trevanion also attempts to make Road Trip history by trying to get her hands on the largest item the show has ever seen – but will she seal the deal?

In January, the BBC commissioned STV Studios to produce 140 new episodes of Antiques Road Trip and its celebrity sister series across two years. 

Celebrity Antiques Road Trip will return to BBC Two in early 2021.

Antiques Road Trip returns today at 4.30pm on BBC One.

The BBC 's Bargain Hunt has announced a huge shake-up, bringing in a new presenting line up for the new season.

Roo Irvine, Danny Sebastian, and Caroline Hawley are set to join the show as regular hosts, reports The Express.

But, if you're a big fan of the longstanding hosts, there's no need to worry as the original four presenters - Natasha Raskin Sharp, Christina Trevanion, Eric Knowles, and Charlie Ross - won't be going anywhere.

Instead, the bigger and better team of seven are set to front the popular reality game show series, as contestants battle it out to find treasure among trash at car boot sales.

The experts will take it turns stepping into the role of host on a rotational basis throughout the series.

Fans will recognise the three familiar faces of the new presenters as they have actually fronted the show before, however now they will be taking the lead more regularly.

Bargain Hunt has been a cornerstone of British daytime TV ever since it first aired two decades ago in March, 2000. 

The show was originally hosted by David Dickinson between 2000 and 2004, before he was succeeded by Tim Wonnacott.

Ever since its launch, viewers have tuned in regularly to see teams donning blue and red fleeces battle it out to see who can bag the biggest profit. 

Antiques fanatic Roo, 44, is set to present upcoming episodes on Friday and Monday - she was initially discovered when BBC Antiques Road Trip visited her in her antique shop in Scotland in early 2015. 

Talking about being on the presenting team, Roo said: 'I love every second of it! It’s a fabulous presenting team with each person bringing their own personality and style, so it’s a real honour to join such a line-up! 

'I feel like a conductor in an orchestra made up of experts, contestants and crew, and the joy lies in bringing them all together in harmony to make our very own Bargain Hunt music!

She added that her favourite part of the role is 'the social element and 'meeting new people'.

Roo, real name Arusha, said: 'As a presenter, I feel it is very much my responsibility to make sure everyone has the best, easiest, smoothest and most fun day possible. 

'When everyone finishes up for the day, and there are big smiles and laughter all round, that is the best feeling for me.'

Danny Sebastian, who is gearing up to host the show later this month, admitted being asked to join the team was a 'dream come true'. 

The presenter  first made his Bargain Hunt debut as an expert in 2017, and he has previously hosted Cbeebies Junk Rescue and the series Street Auction.

He gushed: 'Being asked to present Bargain Hunt is such an honour and a pleasure. It’s a great, fun, exciting show that’s aired all over the world. I mean come on… talk about the cat that got the cream!'

Meanwhile, Caroline Hawley said she is 'thrilled and honoured' to be part of the Bargain Hunt presenting team.

She exclaimed: 'It is fantastic to have this amazing role within the Bargain Hunt family where I have been an expert for many years. It is a challenge which I have taken to, with relish!

'It is the best fun ever to spend time with talented experts and crew, and fabulous, enthusiastic teams all on the hunt for bargains.'

The expert initially got involved with the programme in the summer of 2013 after already working on the BBC’s Flog It! for a year.

With a career that has lasted over three decades, Caroline opened the doors of her very own antiques shop in 1983 named Penny Farthing Antiques.

Similarly to other Bargain Hunt presenters she has also made appearances on Flog It and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.

The BBC presenter's love for antiques and auctions came from a young age when she would attend auctions alongside her parents. Her mother, Hazel, was also an antique fanatic. Her father, David, sadly died in 2013.

After being inspired by her parents' hobbies, Christina went on to study Fine Art Valuation at Southampton Solent University, where she met future business partner Aaron Dean. Together, they set up their own auction business, Trevanion & Dean which is located on Whitchurch, Shropshire. As of 2019, Christina has taken on sole ownership of the firm.

Christina prefers to keep her private life out of the spotlight and there's little information about her husband. However, the presenter did give an insight into their family life recently when she tweeted a joke about divorce to her followers.

Christina tweeted on Sunday: "Has anyone ever cited 'putting up Christmas lights' on divorce papers? Asking for a friend/current husband."

Christina and her husband share two daughters together. The Bargain Hunt presenter rarely discusses her children, but she did open up about her kids getting in the way of her antique collection!

Chatting to Antique Collecting back in 2016, Christina was discussing her favourite pieces at home, explaining she has "an eclectic mix" of items. "[I have] an eclectic mix of inherited family pieces and treasured saleroom purchases, I have two small children and so my 18th century teapot collection was packed away until they get a little older!" she said.
