“Our Open House welcomes prospective students with their friends, family or guardians to learn all about the college,” says Anne Kalil, manager of recruitment, Algonquin College. “Deciding where to spend the next one, two or even five years of your life is a big life decision that requires careful consideration. The Open House helps lessen some of that pressure by helping visitors get the information they need.”

While open houses can sometimes feel intimidating, the staff at Algonquin College go out of their way to make the experience a welcoming one. Staff extend the college’s philosophy of smaller class sizes and personalized support to the Open House tours. Students are invited to forge personal connections with helpful staff members — some of whom may become their future instructors.

Visitors are also invited to connect with students enrolled in the college. Algonquin College caters to students from all backgrounds and at various life stages. The college supports high school students and  recent high school graduates, as well as adult learners looking to advance their career or to make a change.

“We  provide many support services to help students become successful,” says Kalil. “We prioritize the student experience so that we can celebrate student success when the time comes for our graduates to take what they’ve learned and apply it in the real world.”

The tours also extend to the residence where visitors can learn more about life on campus. Guests can experience some exciting campus features, including the Athletics and Recreation Centre which includes an indoor rock climbing wall, bowling alley and golf simulator— all featuring the very latest modern equipment.

Programs start as early as January, and visitors can apply at the event to get a jump-start on early enrolment. Kalil encourages visitors to keep an open mind as they explore the campus and discover new learning opportunities.

“Our purpose is to help solidify the paths our students choose to take by presenting them with a variety of options,” says Kalil. “There’s plenty of pathways between our programs, opening doors to new career opportunities that may previously have gone unconsidered.”
