'After hours til dawn': una gira para recordar

The Weeknd terminó su esperada gira por México con un concierto sin precedentes en el Estadio Akron, en la Perla Tapatía. Se trató del cuarto y último espectáculo que dio el canadiense, quien primero visitó la ciudad de Monterrey, en el Estadio BBVA, el 26 de septiembre, para después llegar a Ciudad de México con dos fechas (29 y 30 de septiembre) en el Foro Sol.

De ahí continuó su gira por Latinoamérica en Brasil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina y Perú, para regresar a México y cumplir con su último concierto en Guadalajara, primera vez que se presenta en esta ciudad.

After hours till dawn comenzó en julio de 2022 y seguirá su recorrido hasta diciembre próximo, donde sus últimos conciertos los dará en Nueva Zelanda.

LA EXPERIENCIA EN GUADALAJARA

Es la primera vez que se presenta en esta ciudad el cantante y lo hizo a lo grande. Unos minutos después de las 9 de la noche, el canadiense salió al escenario con la mirada de más 60 mil personas que llenaban el recinto para escuchar a su cantante favorito.

Comenzó su presentación con False Alarm y Party Monster , pero fue cuando saludó a su público que los fanáticos perdieron el control: “Guadalajara, es mi primera vez aquí así que muéstrenme mucho amor”, dijo The Weeknd antes de comenzar su tema Sacrifice .

El cantante llevaba un conjunto tipo militar y una máscara, que se ha vuelto parte del estilo del cantante y que se quitó a la mitad del concierto para dejar su rostro descubierto lo que quedaba de show. También hizo uso del enorme escenario con una gran escenografía que constaba del escenario principal, una gran pasarela que atravesaba el estadio, en medio de ésta había una figura femenina gigante y una simulación de luna que se encontraba al final.

The Hills , Starboy , Love me harder , Call out my name y Blinding lights fueron las canciones que volvió loco al público.

“Gracias Guadalajara, wow, muchas gracias. Como dije antes, este es el último show del tour de Latinoamérica, y ustedes chicos, hicieron la mejor noche del tour”.

Luego de este concierto, Abel descansará hasta el 20 de noviembre que continúa su tour en Australia con cuatro fechas.

¡Se logró! Después de varios rumores y de peticiones de fanáticos mexicanos que pedían fechas en más ciudades, este 7 de marzo se confirmó que The Weeknd se presentará con un concierto en la ciudad de Guadalajara el próximo miércoles 25 de octubre de este 2023 en el Estadio de Chivas .

Fue a través de las redes sociales de la empresa encargada de organizar el concierto que se dio a conocer la noticia que dejó encantados a miles de fanáticos del artista canadiense que esperan con ansias el poder verlo en la Perla Tapatía .

“Debido a la increíble demanda, ¡el “The After Hours Til Dawn Global Stadium Tour” llega a Guadalajara y Monterrey ”; fue el mensaje publicado, además de que se reveló que la preventa para la compra de boletos se llevará a cabo este 15 de marzo a partir de las 14:00 horas del centro de México .

¿En dónde será el concierto de The Weeknd en Guadalajara?

El concierto del artista canadiense que ha saltado a la fama en los últimos años gracias a grandes temas como “Save Your Tears” , ofrecerá un concierto para presentar su último trabajo discográfico titulado “Dawn FM” en el Estadio Chivas , ubicado en el municipio de Zapopan y que tiene una capacidad para más de 45,000 personas .

Este recinto es comúnmente utilizado por los artistas que tienen grandes espectáculos visuales, como en el caso de Coldplay , que durante 2022 se presentó con dos fechas en la Perla Tapatía y dejó hipnotizados a todos sus fans con el tour “Music of the Spheres ”.

¿Quién es The Weeknd?

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, conocido artísticamente como The Weeknd , es un músico nacido en Toronto, Canadá hace 33 años, y que lleva prácticamente 10 años de carrera profesional luego de que sacara su primera producción discográfica en 2013 titulada “Kiss Land” .

Desde ese momento, ha sacado un total de 5 LP´s, como Beauty Behind the Madness (2015), Starboy (2016), After Hours (2020) y Dawn FM (2023), en los cuales se pueden encontrar géneros como Disco ,R&B, Pop fussion, Synth pop, Rhythm y blues alternativo.

Originally announced the first leg of the North American tour with Doja Cat , it was revealed that more dates will be announced soon for Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

His tour buddy Doja shared the news on her Twitter account last week that she has canceled all her upcoming tour dates this summer due to having emergency tonsil surgery, meaning she won't be able to join him anymore.

"I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap" she wrote.

The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all".

It has yet to be announced who will replace her.

The poster revealed he’ll be performing in stadiums (yes, stadiums!) across North America starting in July. He’ll first kick off his concerts in Canada before heading to the United States, and the best part is Doja Cat will join him as a special guest.

The Weeknd was initially supposed to embark on an arena tour in June of 2020 ; however, due to lockdown restrictions, he was forced to postpone it a year . Then, in February of 2021, he postponed it again to January of 2022. In October, he postponed the tour a third time to this summer. In his Instagram post last fall announcing the postponement, The Weeknd promised fans he would be planning “something bigger” and hinted at stadium shows.

Now, The Weeknd has finally confirmed he’s getting ready to embark on one of his biggest tours yet, and his friend and collaborator Doja Cat will be his special guest. When will The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour begin?

The Weeknd will begin his tour in his hometown of Toronto, Canada, on Saturday, July 8. His first show as part of his stadium tour will be at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Which cities will The Weeknd visit on his After Hours Til Dawn Tour ?

The North American leg of The Weeknd’s tour will see him perform in 18 cities, including Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and several more.

According to Billboard , additional dates will be announced sometime in the future for international tour stops on every continent, except Antarctica.

Tickets for The Weeknd’s tour will go on sale on March 10. Fans can purchase tickets through Ticketmaster.

The Weeknd Breaks Tour Record For Highest Attendance With 160K At London Stadium

Diamond certified and award-winning artist The Weeknd just broke the record for highest attendance across two nights with 160,000 at London Stadium. This significant moment took place over the weekend with sold-out back-to-back shows on July 7 and 8 as part of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour . The tour now holds the record for highest single night attendance for any show at the stadium with 80,000 fans. Kaytranada and Mike Dean joined on both nights. 

The completely sold out 2022 North American leg of the stadium tour was an incredible success, breaking attendance records and grossing $148 million dollars. Following the kick off of the second leg, the global tour has now grossed over $350 million dollars to date. 

“It’s incredible to see The Weeknd hit this milestone less than halfway through his massive sold-out European run,” said Omar Al-joulani, President, Touring, Live Nation in an interview. “This historic moment in London shows the global fanbase he has cultivated over the years.” 

“On the heels of an enormous, hugely successful U.S. tour, Abel continues to sell at an astounding level across Europe,” said CAA’s Co-Head of North American Touring Darryl Eaton to Variety. “Abel entertained 160,000 fans across two nights at London Stadium, with another show in London to come at Wembley in August 2023. We couldn’t be more proud to work with him and his team on this incredible tour!”

The second leg of the After Hours Til Dawn Tour continues with a show in Brussels, Belgium tomorrow at King Baudouin Stadium before heading to Barcelona, Milan, Paris and more. The Weeknd will also embark on his Latin America run this fall with shows in Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and more before wrapping up on October 25 at Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico. 

The  global stadium tour celebrates The Weeknd’s 2020 album After Hours ( it’s hit single “Blinding Lights” was named the new No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 song of all time, surpassing Chubby Checker’s 1960 hit “The Twist” ), as well as his critically-acclaimed album Dawn FM , which was released January 2022.

The Weeknd Reveals Dates for After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour With Doja Cat, Announces XO Humanitarian Fund

The new tour will see Abel's past two albums being brought to the stage in stadiums across North America, complete with special guest Doja Cat.

After a number of pandemic-spurred delays, fans were given an official announcement of new tour dates from The Weeknd on Thursday.

The After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour will begin in July at the Rogers Centre in Toronto before its routing takes the After Hours and Dawn FM -commemorating experience to Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and elsewhere. Serving as special guest on the tour is Doja Cat , who last year linked with Abel for “You Right” off Planet Her .

Ticket sales for the North American dates launch wide on March 10 at 10 a.m. local time via the official Weeknd site. As for fans who previously had tickets to the prior After Hours arena tour, you’ll be given access to a special presale launching this Friday.

Coinciding with the new tour is the XO Humanitarian Fund. As detailed in a press release Thursday, Abel has partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and is putting $1 from each ticket sold in North America into the fund. Additionally, Weeknd is making a $500,000 donation.

“The goal with this fund is to provide immediate life-saving support to people who are on the brink of starvation,” Abel said. “I’m so thankful to have WFP as a partner and to further expand our reach to those who need it most.”

In addition to Abel’s initial $500,000 donation to the fund and the ticket portions, World Food Program USA’s Board of Directors and donors are contributing $1 million. 

“We are grateful that The Weeknd is on this journey with us to fight global hunger,” Barron Segar, president and CEO of World Food Program USA, said Thursday. “We cannot allow millions of children, women and men to starve when we have the food and expertise to save them.”

Hinted at in the tour’s press materials is that fans can expect the jaunt to further expand on the worlds Abel crafted with his most recent albums. This type of world-building from the star of the upcoming The Idol series was most recently on display with the Amazon Original The Dawn FM Experience, which debuted on Prime Video last month. As Abel himself previously teased, fans are indeed in the middle of a new trilogy .
