You heard that right—Bainbridge island, just a 45-minute ferry ride from the city, is a fun place to wine taste and explore while in Seattle. Plan to spend a day on the island and be camera-ready for the views of Seattle on your ferry ride back. The rooftop bar at the Thompson Seattle is a local hotspot. Another reason to stay at the hotel: It's a short walk to Pike's Place Market, chock full of interesting eats.
EXPLORE SEATTLE
Montauk, New York
There's a reason New Yorkers love to flee to the Hamptons — it's the perfect place to unwind during a long weekend. The seashell-lined beaches are just as inviting as the bar scene. Frequent visitors rave about the luxe beachside accommodations at Gurney's Montauk , but even if you don't book a room there, make sure you swing by their Beach Club. It's a 2,000-foot long private beach that non-resort guests can also enjoy — rent a day bed or lounge sofa, or hang out by the bar.

Best Girls’ Trip Destinations in the U.S.
Table of Contents
Savannah, georgia, oregon coast, new orleans, louisianna, montana dude ranch, charleston, south carolina, palm springs, california, california coast road trip, nashville, tennessee, dallas, texas, scottsdale, arizona, new york city, new york.
Savannah’s rich history, charming cobblestone streets, and down-home southern cooking make it an ideal destination for a girls’ getaway.
Stroll under the ancient oak trees covered with Spanish moss at Forsyth Park.
Take a tour of a historic home. Our favorite is the Mercer-Williams Home from the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil .
Admire the manicured squares dotting the city. The famous Chippewa Square was the filming location for the “box of chocolates scene” in the Forrest Gump movie.
Walk along the Savannah Riverfront where you can pick up souvenirs from a local shop, enjoy waterfront dining, or take a sunset riverboat cruise. You can even find a speakeasy hidden in the alley behind River Street!
Be sure to step inside the Cathedral Basilica of St John to admire the stunning French Gothic architecture.
Take a walk along Jones Street, one of the most picturesque residential streets in Savannah. It has even been voted one of the most beautiful streets in North America by Southern Living Magazine .
You’ll find Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room on Jones Street, one of the most popular restaurants in Savannah where you can indulge in made-from-scratch southern cooking.
I would also recommend eating at the Olde Pink House, the Pirate’s House, Mirabelle Savannah, and The Grey. See our guide 8 of the Best Places to Eat in Savannah for more recommendations.
For a fun experience, book a segway tour of Bonaventure Cemetery to learn some interesting history and haunting tales of this famous historic cemetery.
I would also recommend taking a day trip to Tybee Island if you want to relax on the beach.
Wormsloe Historic Site is also worth the drive where you will find the most beautiful oak tree tunnel hanging with Spanish moss.
For more information and recommendations, see our guide for The Best Things to Do in Savannah on a Girls’ Weekend.
For a relaxing girls’ trip that is packed with natural beauty, head to Oregon’s sprawling coast.
Book a beachfront cottage with ocean views. We recommend staying in Oceanside, it’s a small community with affordable vacation rentals and fewer crowds.
Oceanside Beach also allows beach fires so you can enjoy s’mores at sunset.
Head to Pacific City where you can rent e-bikes and ride them right on the beach. Explore Cake Kiwanda while you are there, and stop for a bite to eat at the Grateful Bread Bakery.
Be sure to visit the nearby Tillamook Creamery to watch how they make their world-famous cheese. Stop by the cafe to enjoy the best deep-fried cheese curds and housemade ice cream.
Take a day trip to visit Cannon Beach with its iconic Haystack Rock. See our guide 7 Things to Do in Oceanside for all the details.
I would also recommend heading inland for a few days. Be sure to stop and explore the dynamic city of Portland while you’re passing through.
Plan to spend a few days near Mount Hood where you can book a cozy cabin as the perfect home base to explore the area.
Drive the “Waterfall Highway” in the Columbia River Gorge where you can stop along the way to hike to gorgeous waterfalls.
You’ll also want to drive the Hood River Fruit Loop which is dotted with fruit stands and farm-to-table eateries.

If you have extra time, I would recommend driving 2 hours to Mobile, Alabama and spending a few days there. It’s an unassuming and charming spot for a girls’ trip!
If you’ve never considered a dude ranch for a girls’ trip, it is such a unique and adventurous experience!
The fun begins even before the trip when you get together and go thrifting for cowgirl duds. You can’t show up at a dude ranch without cowgirl boots, a hat, and a fringed leather jacket!
A dude ranch is an all-inclusive stay where you’ll immerse yourselves in the cowboy lifestyle with horseback riding excursions, hearty cowboy grub, and ranch activities.
The days are spent riding horses along scenic trails, and the evenings are spent around a campfire under the starry sky.
We stayed at O.T.O Dude Ranch , which was a pop-up ranch experience hosted by the True Ranch Collection.
It provided the perfect opportunity to disconnect from technology and enjoy the serenity of the Montana wilderness together.
We have also stayed at several other dude ranches in Arizona and would recommend checking out White Stallion Ranch , Rancho de la Osa , and Tombstone Monument Ranch .
Charleston exudes southern hospitality and charm with its antebellum architecture, waterfront views, and renowned food scene. It’s one of our favorite spots for a girls’ trip in the US!
Spend the night in a charming bed & breakfast, take photos on Rainbow Road, stroll along Waterfront Park, and take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the city.
Go shopping on King Street in the historic district, or pick up handmade goods at the Charleston City Market.
Take time to learn about the solemn history of slavery in the city by touring the Old Slave Mart Museum and visiting Boone Hall Plantation .
Indulge in Lowcountry cuisine at Husk or Poogan’s Porch, or eat inside of an old church at Church and Union Charleston.
If you’re feeling brave, paddle through the alligator-infested swamp at Cypress Gardens. This was the filming location for the romantic boat scene in The Notebook .
I would also recommend taking the short drive to Mount Pleasant where the popular Netflix series, Outer Banks was filmed.

Palm Springs is a desert oasis known for its mid-century modern architecture, desert beauty, and vibrant arts scene.

Enjoy brunch at an outdoor cafe such as Cheeky’s, Wilma & Frieda, or Grand Central.
Hike the Palm Canyon Trail in Indian Canyons to discover the world’s largest California Fan Palm oasis.
The scenic Aerial Tramway is also a great way to get out in nature as it takes you to the top of Mt. San Jacinto.
Take a day trip to explore Pioneertown, a replica 1870s frontier town where hundreds of movies have been filmed.
Pioneertown is located near Joshua Tree National Park where you can hike through the Cholla Garden, take in the vista at Keys View, make the trek to Skull Rock, and watch as the Joshua Trees become silhouetted against the setting sun.

Take a day trip to tour the Belle Meade Historic Site or Belmont Mansion. The charming town of Franklin is also worth the extra drive.
If you’re lucky, you can score a reservation at the intimate Bluebird Cafe where Taylor Swift and other big stars were discovered.
For a full itinerary, see our guide for The Perfect Nashville Girls’ Weekend .
Dallas offers a mix of urban city life, cultural experiences, and southern hospitality.
Explore trendy neighborhoods like Deep Ellum with an eclectic mix of local dives and upscale hot spots, and a history that dates back to the 19th century.
Take a morning jog along the Katy Trail, or participate in a free yoga class at Klyde Warren Park, a beautiful city park located above the freeway.
Take photos of the Dallas city skyline from the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and grab a bite to eat at the nearby Trinity Groves neighborhood.
Dallas is a foodies destination. Discover some of the Best Places to Eat in Dallas , including a BBQ joint with a Ferris wheel!
Visit the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza where John F. Kennedy was assassinated. It is a somber experience to learn about this dark moment in America’s history, but the museum is very well done.

New York is an epic girls’ trip destination any time of year, but I would highly recommend visiting at Christmas for an extra magical girls’ trip.
For the ultimate way to get into the holiday spirit, watch the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular and prepare to be blown away!
Go ice skating at the Rockefeller Center in the shadow of the most famous Christmas tree in the world.
Admire the spectacular window and light displays on 5th Avenue, and stop by the FAO Schwarz toy store to feel like a kid again.
Walk through Central Park where you’ll be serenaded with Christmas music by street performers. If you’re lucky, you might even catch a dusting of snow while walking under the tree tunnel at The Mall.
Wollman Ice Rink at Central Park is also a great alternative to ice skating at Rockefeller Center, it is cheaper and less crowded.
Visit the Winter Village at Bryant Park for the best hot chocolate from the Max Brenner stall and the best cheese raclette from the Baked Cheese Haus Raclette food stand.
A visit to Macy’s on 34th is a must. This is the largest department store in America and every inch of the store is decked out for the holidays.
Make reservations at a holiday-themed restaurant such as Rolf’s Bar, Lillie’s Victorian Establishment, Papillon, or Oscar Wilde. For an especially memorable experience, splurge for afternoon tea at The Plaza.

30 Best Girls-Trip Destinations
By Juliet Izon
Is there any vacation that’s more exciting to look forward to than a girls trip? No significant others, no kids, just your (chosen) family. But we know finding the perfect girls-trip destination is easier said than done: Do you want the hustle and bustle of New York City? Or is the vibe more to totally unplug ( babymoon style) somewhere in sunny Florida? Are your friends wanting to stay put in America for a quick weekend getaway , or are they game for international jaunts to Mexico or the Caribbean?
We’ve helped narrow it down for you, with a comprehensive list of trip ideas that feature some of our favorite spots from around the globe (and hotels we've stayed in). Read on for where to go for the best girls trips. Now all you have to do is pick a date (and a carry-on ).
New Orleans
We probably don’t need to sell you too hard on the Big Easy: It’s been top of the list for girls trips probably since the city was founded in the 18th century. It’s a place that’s both rich in history and nightlife, which is why we love tours like Drink and Learn , where you can stroll some of New Orleans’s most famed streets with a cocktail in hand. And when you’ve had your fill of beignets, jazz, and vintage shopping on Magazine Street, you can stay at The Eliza Jane , a charming boutique hotel located ideally between the French Quarter and Arts District. The literary buffs in your crew will love that it's the former home of the The Daily Picayune and named for Eliza Jane Nicholson, the first woman publisher of any major newspaper, who worked there in the 19th century (how's that for on theme for a girls trip?). It offers the perfect respite from any Bourbon Street antics, with a lovely outdoor oasis where you can all unwind (seriously, you'll think you're in another city). With 50 stylish suites, a chic restaurant, and a bar with live music, there's more than enough space for your pals to enjoy, even if they don't want to leave the property.

Asheville, North Carolina
Courtesy of The Radical
If you and the best friends have already conquered the Southern cities of Nashville and Austin, may we suggest a long weekend trip to this charming spot in western North Carolina? Known for its high concentration of stellar restaurants and breweries, a lively arts community, and easy access to outdoor adventures (hello, Blue Ridge Parkway), a girls trip here can be as laid-back or packed to the gills as you wish. We recommend staying in the buzzy River Arts District (RAD), at the brand-new hotel The Radical . Its rooftop is one of the best spots in the city to watch the sunset while sipping on some fantastic cocktails.
Courtesy of Almanac Barcelona
This may not be the spot to travel to if you’re looking for a 9 p.m. bedtime, but if you’re ready for late-night dinners, bar-hopping until the early-morning hours, and days spent on the beach or taking in jaw-droppingly cool architecture, then the Spanish city of Barcelona is calling your name. Book rooms for you and the gal pals at the chic Almanac Barcelona . Not only does the hotel’s year-round rooftop bar Azimuth have stunning 360-degree views of the city, but the staff can also arrange for fun group activities like guided tapas tours.
Courtesy of brand The Loren
With a flight time of less than three hours from many East Coast destinations, the sunny and chic island of Bermuda is one of our favorite picks for a quick girls trip. And since the island is north of the Caribbean, there’s no rainy season, making it an appealing pick for typical shoulder-season months. The beaches here are probably the biggest draw, and for good reason: They’re actually pink-sanded and the water is impossibly clear. Snag rooms for your party at The Loren : We love this beachfront property’s Sisley Spa and open-air meals at The Pink Beach Club.
Buenos Aires
A strong dollar against the Argentine peso makes this South American capital an especially savvy trip idea for you and your best friends. But even without the financial incentive, there are few cities in the world that offer the same jubilant mix of beautiful neighborhoods, innovative food and drink, and storied history as this one. Treat yourself and your friends to a stay at Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt Buenos Aires , a hotel housed inside a landmarked palace that’s surrounded by a gorgeous garden. And make sure to leave time to check out the on-site Ahin Wellness Spa : You’ll need it after a night of tango.
The Berkshires
Unplugging more your speed? Then we recommend a rejuvenating girls weekend getaway to the Berkshires, a bucolic and beautiful part of Western Massachusetts. While you can certainly day-trip to the area’s many charming small towns (Great Barrington, North Adams, and Stockbridge, to start), make lively Lenox your home base. Reserve rooms at the über-chic Life House Berkshires , where communal spaces include a cozy library lounge, wood-paneled cocktail bar, and gorgeous hiking trails all minutes from the lobby.
If your pals are adrenaline junkies, there may be no better place on earth to get your heart thumping than the outdoor playground that is Costa Rica. From otherworldly hikes in cloud forests to riding the waves in Tamarindo to sky-high zip-lining, this Central American country is perfect for an adventurous girls trip. But at the end of the day, you can still relax in style: Snag a reservation at the adults-only Hotel Three Sixty . The 12-villa property is ideal for large groups and we love its secluded location inside a 58-acre rainforest reserve.
Colorado’s capital is one of our favorite cities in the West because, depending on what season you visit, it’s like hanging out in an entirely new town. Come with friends in the winter, and you should obviously take advantage of the city’s proximity to the many ski mountains. But in the warmer months, you can enjoy everything from white-water rafting to cycling to rock climbing. In the evenings, relax at one of Denver’s famed breweries before tucking in for the night at the playful Curtis Hotel , which has themed rooms and unique packages . Pro tip: You’re definitely going to want to reserve the Barbie suite for you and the girls.
Dominican Republic
With direct flights from most major East Coast and many Midwestern cities, this tropical paradise wins bonus points for how easy it is to get to. And of course, once you arrive, the pristine beaches and 18 national parks will make leaving the island a tall order. We recommend staying in Punta Cana, at the easternmost tip of the country. The beaches here are especially stunning, and the airport is less than 20 minutes away. Our favorite property for a ladies-only vacation? The high-touch boutique hotel Eden Roc Cap Cana , where many suites boast their own private pool, and the delicious food is some of the best in the Caribbean.
This Scottish capital packs a punch in a small package. A girls getaway here could encompass a climb to Arthur’s Seat, the extinct volcano with beautiful views of the city, golf, and a stroll through the postcard-perfect Water of Leith Walkway. But leave your nights open for experiencing the city’s nightlife (especially the whiskey scene). Snag splurge rooms at The Balmoral , one of the city’s most famous properties, and make sure you leave time in the itinerary to check out its famed afternoon tea and the killer spa, which has both a Turkish steam room and a Finnish sauna. Plus, there's nothing cuter than Highland cows.
There’s a reason Finland has been voted the happiest country in the world for many years running: You feel healthier as soon as you land in the Helsinki airport. What makes this European city great for a bachelorette party or girls trip? Aside from the friendly Finns: the underrated yet spectacular restaurant scene that’s fit for foodies; epic boutique shopping; and where else can you hang out all afternoon sipping on Finnish Long Drink and alternating between sauna sweats and ice-cold dips in the river? Make sure to book a stay at the brand-new Hotel Maria , which opens this December. It features a tightly curated on-site boutique, spa suites with their own saunas, and craft cocktails with live piano music at Bar Maria.
Hudson Valley, New York
Just a few hours’ road trip from New York City and Boston is this stretch of bucolic farmland and picture-perfect hamlets, ideal for a weekend filled with farm-to-table eats, mountain hikes, and nights around a bonfire. One of the most popular resorts for a girls getaway in the Hudson Valley is the newish Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection . Here activities range from requisite hiking and fitness classes but also encompass much more unique offerings, like focaccia-making workshops, sound baths, and daily feeding of the on-property chickens.
Island of Hawaii
Close your eyes and picture your perfect island vacation: Is there any chance it wasn’t Hawaii? And while all of the islands offer their own unique, compelling reasons for visiting, we’ve been lately drawn most to the Big Island, known as the “island of adventure.” A trip here can include everything from swimming with manta rays, lying on black-sand beaches, and getting up close and personal with active volcanoes. Make Four Seasons Resort Hualalai your home base: Unique experiences to share with your besties include a jaw-dropping swimmable aquarium, paddling in an outrigger canoe, and traditional lomi-lomi massages at the dreamy spa.
At eightish hours from most East Coast cities, a long weekend trip to Lisbon isn’t as crazy as you might think. And once you’re on the ground, the pedestrian-friendly capital is quite easy to explore even if you’re short on time. Spend your days wandering trendy neighborhoods like Bairro Alto, Príncipe Real, and Cais do Sodré, and your nights feasting on seafood and shellfish, before toasting with the sour-cherry liqueur ginjinha. Post up at NAU Palacio do Governador , a boutique hotel with multiple heated swimming pools, charming rooms with barrel-vaulted ceilings, and a location right in the historic center of the Belem neighborhood.
This capital city needs no real introduction but remains one of our favorites for an international girls trip for its high number of direct flights, English-speaking citizens, and those adorable double-decker buses. And if you’ve got a group of gal pals with disparate interests, we promise London offers something for everyone: world-class theater in the West End, epic shopping in Shoreditch and Notting Hill, and a pub and cocktail culture that puts basically every American city to shame. We love staying at 11 Cadogan Gardens : Not only is its location in Chelsea incredibly central, but the back entrance to the hotel opens up onto Pavilion Road, one of the best stretches in the city for a fabulous brunch. And as far as hospitality is concerned, the equally ideally located Mayfair Townhouse can't be beat. The stunning hotel has one of the best concierges in town just in case one of the girls dropped the ball on your dinner reservations.
Los Angeles
When most of the continental USA dips into chilly temperatures, it’s a comfort to know that Southern California will almost always be positively balmy. But this glittering West Coast city has far more to recommend it than just its sunny clime: Some of the country’s hottest restaurants, bars, and boutique shopping are here, not to mention plenty of gorgeous urban trails. If you’re looking to relax and unplug, this is not the trip for you, but if you and your girls want to squeeze every last drop out of your vacation days, we can think of no better city. Grab reservations at W Los Angeles West Beverly Hills and make sure to reserve poolside cabanas for you and the crew before starting your night with cocktails at the buzzy Living Room Bar.
Mexico City
You could spend a year in this sprawling capital city, also known as CDMX, and still not uncover all of its charms. But that also means that even in the span of a weeklong vacation, there is a lot to pack in every day, from taking a street-food tour to watching Mexican wrestling and touring Frida Kahlo’s home. We recommend making the vibrant Condesa or Roma neighborhood your home base, which is filled with some of the city’s top boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. We’re big fans of Colima 71 , a new boutique property in Roma Norte with rooms boasting full kitchens and private balconies.
Another excellent choice for when you need to escape freezing temperatures is the fun-filled playground that is Miami. If you’re looking for a trip heavy on the nightlife, spend your evenings in South Beach, but don’t overlook Wynwood, which lays claim to many of the city’s hottest restaurants, boutiques, and breweries. We love not only the central location of The Miami Beach Edition but its two pools with ocean views, the basement bowling alley, and beachfront restaurant Tropicale.
Napa Valley, California
Yes, you absolutely can take a trip to Napa just for wine tasting, but we promise there’s far more to do in this gorgeous swatch of Northern California than just visit one of the more than 400 wineries. Your food-obsessed friends, for one, will probably want to hit up at least one of the Michelin-starred restaurants in wine country (The French Laundry, anyone?), while anyone in your posse who’s a wellness guru will enjoy a day trip to Calistoga’s mineral springs or mud baths. And everyone on your girls trip will appreciate the pampering at Stanly Ranch, Auberge Resorts Collection . We especially love the wellness services here, which range from cedar and steam saunas to private yoga classes and deep-tissue bodywork.
Some of the best food in the South, live music everywhere you turn, and lots and lots of whiskey: What’s not to love about the capital of Tennessee? Spend your mornings brunching at spots like Henrietta Red or the rooftop at White Limozeen, and your nights exploring why they call this town Music City. Catch songwriter shows at The Bluebird Cafe and 3rd and Lindsley, or the bigger names at Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium. We absolutely adore Bobby Hotel in downtown Nashville: Its rooftop pool and lounge is one of the best spots to start or end your night. If low-key Southern is more your speed, we also recommend a road trip to The Harpeth Hotel in nearby and charming Franklin.
New York City
The City That Never Sleeps is a good match for any girls vacation when you plan, well, staying out late. But aside from NYC’s famous bars and lounges, this is also paradise for anyone who loves boutique or vintage shopping and really (really) good meals. Make time to explore charming downtown Manhattan neighborhoods like the Lower East Side and the cobblestone streets of the West Village, and cross the river to check out top spots in Brooklyn, like Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and DUMBO. But if you want a true taste of that New York bustling energy, it’s worth swinging by Times Square for a Broadway show or booking a stay at the Hard Rock Hotel New York .
Nevis, Saint Kitts and Nevis
This island in the Lesser Antilles has had a bigger profile since Hamilton premiered (Alexander Hamilton was born here), but it’s high on our list for girls-trip destinations for a more current reason. JetBlue launched a new, direct flight from New York to the country this fall, making it that much easier to escape to the island’s clear waters and gorgeous beaches. Snag rooms for your and the gal pals at Four Seasons Resort Nevis : a dreamy hotel with nearly three miles of beachfront, four pickleball courts, and programming like rum tasting or monkey spotting tours.
Palm Springs, California
While we certainly don’t recommend a trip to the desert in the height of summer, there are few places more delicious than Palm Springs in the depths of winter. Start your day off with a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for stunning views of the city, then get your dose of vitamin D with a hike on the Andreas Canyon Trail at Indian Canyons. And since this part of California is all about midcentury modern (it's one of the more Instagrammable cities), book rooms at the retro-chic Ace Hotel and Swim Club . We love the deep bench of activities at this property, from weekly bingo and trivia nights to live jazz and dinner series. And when you need to cool off, don’t miss the boozy slushies from on-site cocktail bar the Amigo Room.
The City of Love isn’t just for your, well, lover. It’s also one of the most lively and beautiful trips you can take with your girls (and a major bucket list destination). From days spent wandering the Marais’s unparalleled shopping to nights exploring some of the world’s most innovative restaurants, a trip to Paris can bring a twinkle to anyone’s eye, including your hard-to-please foodie friend and the art history buffs among you. One of the city’s buzziest new hotels is also perfect for a girls trip: Hôtel Des Grands Voyageurs is a charming, high-design boutique property in Saint-Placide that also houses one of the Left Bank’s coolest speakeasies, Poppy.
Puerto Rico
Hungry for a tropical getaway but not all your ladies got their passports renewed in time? Trust us, we’ve been there. Luckily, one of the best destinations in the Caribbean is a US territory. And Puerto Rico, at only two and a half hours from Miami, is also one of the easiest islands to travel to if you’ve got limited time. It’s also packed with things to do, from the famed bioluminescent bay to rainforest hikes and more than 300 beaches. We recommend reserving the adults-only Condado Ocean Club in San Juan: Oceanfront bar Sandbox is the perfect spot to start your night, and we love relaxing at the infinity pool with views of the Atlantic.
Punta de Mita, Mexico
There may be no international destination more popular for girls trips than America’s dynamic neighbor to the south: Mexico. And while we could write a whole article just on places to go within that country, for this list, we’re going with our perennial favorite of Punta de Mita. Easily accessible from Puerto Vallarta, this sun-drenched peninsula is known for its silky white-sand beaches, über-chill vibes, and stellar hotel properties. We recommend the Conrad Punta de Mita : a secluded and tranquil resort with four pools, two miles of beach, and activities like whale watching and sailing.
Reykjavik, Iceland
While beach vacations or major city explorations might be the more popular options for vacations with your girls, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, we’d love to suggest the otherworldly landscape in and around Reykjavik. Iceland’s capital is less than a six-hour flight from many major East Coast cities, and its wealth of activities are certainly not excursions that are easy to find in the US. In the winter you can try to time your visit to see the Northern Lights, while the Blue Lagoon offers blissful soaking any time of year. Post up at The Reykjavik Edition , a modern hotel steps from the city’s main shopping area of Laugavegur Street with chic rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the bustling city.
Savannah, Georgia
There are few cities in America more beautiful, charming, and fun than Savannah. And while you could certainly spend a whole weekend just ogling the stunning mansions and wandering through the city’s verdant gardens, it’s also home to some of the South’s best restaurants, bars, and boutiques. And only 20 minutes away lies Tybee Island, a laid-back beach town that’s a perfect addition to a long-weekend trip. Our favorite property in the city is Perry Lane Hotel : We love its location in the Historic District, the unique cocktails at on-site bar The Wayward, and—pro tip—that you can throw private tea parties in the hotel’s library.
Turks and Caicos
If your friends are craving white-sand beaches, water sports, and minimal flight time, then there is really only one answer: Turks and Caicos. These islands located in the Lucayan Archipelago boast some of the world’s most beautiful stretches of sand (Grace Bay is the most famous), along with plenty of prime spots for snorkeling, kayaking, and parasailing. The British Overseas Territory is also home to some of the best resorts in the region, including The Somerset on Grace Bay . With a superb location on the beach, other perks at this hotel include gargantuan suites perfect for sharing with pals, kiteboarding lessons, and private spa experiences for you and your friends.
Washington, DC
Sure, our nation’s capital is fun for history buffs, but even if you don’t set foot on The Mall, DC is a vibrant, exciting place all on its own. And in recent years the city has seriously upped its game when it comes to food and drink. Just take a look around The Wharf and Navy Yard, two neighborhoods that have fast become meccas for innovative dining and buzzy cocktails. One of our new favorite hotels is right in the heart of it all too. Pendry Washington DC has beautiful views of the water; one of the city’s best rooftop cocktail bars, Moonraker; and, when the weather is right, a sleek outdoor pool, complete with cabanas.

Experience this historic city from the water and snap some great pictures on the Inner Harbor Sunset Sail . For pasta and pizza lovers alike (is anyone not raising their hand?), visit Little Italy to indulge in rich, authentic Italian cuisine.
Salem, Massachusetts
Salem is the unofficial ghost capital of the USA, with its fascinating and terrifying history of the Witch Trials of the 1600’s. A girls vacation here is perfect for Halloween lovers and history buffs. Take it all in at the Salem Witch Village museum, or experience history on foot on one of Salem’s haunted-themed walking tours . Take the girls for one of the best psychic readings in the region at Omen: Psychic Parlor and Witchcraft Emporium . And if all of this dark and mystic activity has you in need of a drink at the end of the day, Far from the Tree Cider offers craft beers and ciders (and no ghost-theme).
St. Augustine, Florida
Begin your trip to beautiful St. Augustine at the Wild Reserve , where you and the girls can get up close and personal with some of the world’s most exotic big cats, including rare and endangered White Tigers. If that doesn’t meet your nature fix, enjoy a memorable kayak trip through St. Augustines’ beautiful estuaries and shorelines. For a walk on the weirder side, visit Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum , offering tons of interactive exhibits for you and your girls to enjoy. To indulge in the best of St. Augustine’s food and drinks, check out one of the city’s several food tours and pub crawls .

The 30 Best Places for Your Next Girls' Trip, Both Inside and Outside the U.S.
Pack your bags and your best friends.
Figuring out where to go for a girls' trip, though, can be tricky, especially if you have to manage different vacation styles, personalities, and schedules—which is exactly why we compiled a list of the best destinations for your next girls' getaway. Some of the spots are great for a 2- or 3-day weekend (think: Nashville and Austin), while others benefit from a slightly longer stay, such as Portugal or Puerto Rico. Some are ideal for girls who want to go on trip in the U.S. (we recommend taking a road trip from Miami to Key West), while others are perfect for those who are hankering to go abroad, like Dublin and Barcelona). And some destinations provide lots of opportunities for fun in the sun (such as an all-inclusive stay in Jamaica), while others—like Newport, Rhode Island or Palm Springs—offer the ultimate digital detox. Not to mention that we've even included a few girls' trip ideas that would double as a good mother-daughter weekend getaway, like Sonoma or Savannah.
No matter what you choose, keep in mind that amid the coronavirus pandemic, your girls' vacation will probably look a bit different, depending on factors like your vaccination status and where you're headed. So make sure to check what rules are in place at your destination (either through the state health departments or the U.S. Embassies and Consulates ) and follow CDC guidance for how to best protect yourself and others while traveling domestically or internationally .
Ahead, we've rounded up the best girls' trip ideas—from beach vacations perfect for birthday trips to remote places that are all about R&R—and included suggestions for the most fun activities at each destination. Now, all you have to do is pack.
Savannah, Georgia
This coastal Southern charmer (cobblestone streets! Spanish moss!) is perfect for any girls trip where the key word is unwind. Stay at the Perry Lane Hotel that offers contemporary luxury with loads of Instagram-ready areas, including a chic rooftop pool and bar (you can also visit Peregrin for its tasty cocktails and city views even if you're not staying at the property). In the morning, grab a complementary glass of champagne and some of the hotel's bicycles, and head over to nearby Chippewa Square, where Forrest Gump's iconic bench scenes were filmed. (The hotel offers free car service though, if that's more your speed.) Then, make your way over to The Olde Pinke House for brunch and a photo opportunity. (Don't skip the fried green tomatoes!). End the eve with dinner at Cotton & Rye , followed by a nightcap back at Wayward , plus a friendly game of skee-ball at the eclectic bar.
Sonoma, California
If you and your gals can't get enough Chardonnay, say hello to Sonoma . Perfectly situated in California’s wine country, Sonoma is home to more than 425 wineries. Stay at a place like the Ledson Hotel where every room is equipped with king-sized beds, whirlpool tubs, a fireplace, and a balcony where you can split a bottle and reminisce.
Wilmington, North Carolina
If you're looking for a charming, coastal Carolina getaway, Wilmington boasts a scenic, walkable downtown with waterfront dining galore, stunning architecture, and convivial bars and restaurants. (Don't miss the risotto balls at Quanto Basta , the nautical vibe at Seabird , or the live tunes and tacos at Satellite Bar ). There are also multiple beaches to while away the afternoon. Fans of soapy TV shows like Dawson's Creek , One Tree Hill , and Hart of Dixie will especially delight in seeing the filming locations in person, but you need not have watched any of those series to appreciate the city's magnetism. Art aficionados will adore the Cameron Art Museum which will unveil a new sculpture exhibit this November. Stay at the riverfront Embassy Suites for easy access to Cloud 9 rooftop bar where pink sunsets are practically guaranteed. It's also close to the newly opened amphitheater if you're taking in a concert. Or, try Dreamers Welcome for a more boutique-y feel.
Newport, Rhode Island
You can't go to Newport without grabbing some local cuisine at the The Newport Lobster Shack . After lunch at a waterfront picnic table, walk off those lobster rolls with a leisurely stroll on the famed Cliff Walk . The trail is 3.5 miles of beautiful ocean views. Then, explore the historic mansions while pretending you all live there together.
Orlando, Florida
The worst-kept secret in this town is that Walt Disney World is actually a lot of fun without your kids. Of course there's EPCOT where you can drink (and snack) around the world while you're waiting to ride the latest attraction, Remy's Ratatouille . And staying for the brand new light show, in honor of Disney's 50th anniversary, is a spectacular must. Then, Disney Springs is basically The Mouse’s answer to the Vegas Strip: there are over fifty retail stores, foodie-focused restaurants and bars, and live entertainment. Stay at the Hilton Orlando which offers a rare amenity: an adults-only pool and relaxing cabanas. It also has a lazy river and a slide for the kids at heart, plus a shop to sate all of your needs 24 hours a day, and a staff so friendly you'll feel like you're in the Magic Kingdom even if you're just at the breakfast buffet. (Note: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you must have valid admission and make a park reservation via the Disney Park Pass system; for more information, visit the Disney World website .)
Key West, Florida
Admire the beaches of Key West by taking a sunset champagne cruise . The islands are also a famous spot for snorkeling . Are your pals thrill-seekers? Take in a ghost or haunted pub crawl tour —you'll see the city in a whole new light. Stay at the luxurious Sunset Key Cottages and wake up to a gorgeous view of the beach.
Charlottesville, Virginia
A small town that punches well above its weight when it comes to food and drink, this Central Virginia charmer is conveniently located close to many Southern cities. The surrounding area, known for its picturesque horse pastures, is also home to the Monticello Wine Trail , which boasts an impressive 33 vineyards. One of the most beloved is Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard , which serves delicious farm-to-table fare alongside lush varietals like sparkling rosé and their signature red, Easton Blue. Stay at charming 20-room The Clifton , located on a sprawling 100 acres.
Killington, Vermont
There’s never really a bad time to visit Vermont: stunning foliage in the fall, beautiful hiking in the summer, and, of course, some of the best skiing on the East Coast once the temperatures plummet. Killington may be the best mountain of them all , featuring world-class slopes, of course, but for the less coordinated, there’s also ski bikes, tubing, and even Snowcat-drawn sleigh rides. If you're looking for a major (yet worthwhile) splurge, repair your aching limbs with a night at Twin Farms , a cozy inn with a seasonally changing restaurant. Or, stay at any number of nearby B&Bs.
Las Vegas, Nevada
No girls trip list is complete without including Sin City. But for those who haven’t visited since their bachelorette days, much has changed. Top-tier talent like Katy Perry, Celine Dion, and Carrie Underwood are rumored to have residencies in the works at the at Resorts World Las Vegas and food has evolved from sticky all-you-can-eat buffets to celebrity seafood favorite CATCH Las Vegas at ARIA Resort & Casino , and the stunning, 64-story-high Rivea by Alain Ducasse at Delano Las Vegas . Book a stay at the sleek Cosmopolitan , which has super chic rooms and private spa suites for groups at its Sahra Spa & Hammam .
Austin, Texas
Two words: breakfast tacos . Of course, the crowds don’t flock to Austin just for the food: excellent live music, Insta-worthy hotels, and the gorgeous landscape make it a pretty perfect vacation destination. Snag rooms at Hotel San Jose , an oasis with garden courtyards and a pool hidden in the middle of trendy South Congress. At night, be sure to check out the Rainey Street Historic District , a residential-turned-commercial row where bungalow homes were turned into lively bars. Recover the next day by booking services at Lake Austin Spa Resort —they can even provide water taxi service to their gorgeous Texas Hill Country grounds.
And while definitely not in Austin, if you're up for a road trip to a place where you can experience the best of Hill Country, the Inn at Dos Brisas offers opulent casitas or hacienda, where you and your pals can unwind with wine by the fire. While it's certainly a splurge, it's a unique spot for a special occasion, like a birthday trip.
Hawaii Island, Hawaii
It’s hard to imagine natural beauty that could rival that of the Big Island : site-seeing includes everything from the world’s most active volcano, gargantuan waterfalls, black and green sand beaches, and even helicopter tours of the impossibly green valleys. Of course, group hikes call for spa sessions, which the Hualalai Spa and Sports Club located at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai is perfect for. Outdoor treatment rooms, reflexology walking streams, and Hawaiian-inspired treatments make the experience unforgettable. Don’t miss the “boga” classes: that’s yoga conducted on floating mats, of course.
Miami, Florida
It’s hard to think of another American city that’s as fun as this Florida playground. For a one-stop shop, stay at buzzy hotel The Confidante Miami Beach . Situated around 20 blocks north of the hustle and bustle of Ocean Drive, this quieter oasis is perfect if you and your girls take your R&R quite seriously. One of its two pools is dedicated exclusively to families, meaning you can sneak away to the other if children are splashing around a bit too much. And in addition to colorful popsicles courtesy of Cielito Artisan Pops , there's also a Hello Bello amenity cart packed with plant-based poolside essentials like SPF, bug spray, and body lotion. Enjoy a hearty breakfast at Rosie's before heading to the beach or checking out the Instagram-worthy murals at Wynwood Walls . Or, try the more urban Thēsis Hotel Miami , which has a sunny rooftop pool with stellar views, and, perhaps more importantly, a poolside bar.
Nashville, Tennessee
There’s a reason why you see a bachelorette party nearly every 50 feet in Music City: Southern hospitality mixes with unbelievable live music and a bustling bar scene to create a perfect storm of happiness. Stay at the Bobby Hotel , just minutes from the famed Printer’s Alley clubs and bars of downtown. If the rowdy bustle of Broadway isn't for you, unwind at the property's rooftop pool, complete with an airstream ripe for the 'gram or enjoy a cocktail at the stunning lobby bar below. Then, recover the next morning with a traditional (and rib-sticking) meal at Arnold’s Country Kitchen to sample the city’s famed meat-and-three plate. For dinner, don't skip the mac and cheese at Mockingbird . And, of course, grab loads of ooey-gooey Goo Goo Clusters as souvenirs.
New Orleans, Louisiana
It's always the perfect time to visit The Big Easy . And, as the city that proudly claims to have invented the cocktail, the bar scene here is second to none. Make a beeline for The Sazerac Restaurant to sample the namesake cocktail, of course, but don’t skimp on the Ramos Gin Fizzes either; they require a solid 12 minutes of shaking. No trip here is complete without dinner at New Orleans grande dame Brennan’s , famed for inventing the flashy (and incredibly delicious) flaming bananas foster. Boutique Henry Howard Hotel offers the perfect respite from the crowds, as does the NOPSI Hotel 's soothing rooftop. Or, you can't go wrong with the centrally-located and ever-glam Ritz-Carlton .
Palm Springs, California
Coachella and other music festivals may have put this spot on the map, but this scenic area in Southern California is pretty heavenly year-round (and, with 350 days of sunshine, it’s especially enticing during blustery winter months). Architecture buffs will love Villa Royale , a boutique hotel with Mission Revival and Mid-Century Modern touches all over. Workshop Kitchen + Bar is perfect for group dinners, with its farm-to-table small plates like fried cauliflower steak and wood-fired pizzas. End the night at its sister bar Truss & Twine , whose menu includes a whole selection of tasty tiki drinks.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
While parts of this Caribbean island are still recovering from Hurricane Maria, the bustling capital of San Juan is back in business (and eager for tourists to return). Beach-loving pals should book a room at the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde Beach Resort , which offers beginning surfing, stand-up paddling, and zip-lining. While exploring old San Juan, make sure to stop in at El Jibarito for excellent renditions of classic Puerto Rican dishes like mofongo with camarones al ajillo (that’s mashed plantains with shrimp in garlic sauce). Finish the night at La Factoria , a speakeasy that’s been voted one of the top 50 bars in the world. (Note: Travel to and from Puerto Rico is currently permitted as long as as visitors comply with all necessary health and safety requirements; for more information, visit discoverpuertorico.com .)
Lisbon, Portugal
Just like San Francisco, Lisbon, Portugal is famous for its historic tram lines. Built more than 2,000 years ago, St. George's Castle is one of the most visible landmarks of Lisbon's historic center. From it, you can see the Tagus river and the city from a whole different perspective. Take in the nightlife in the city's famous Bairro Alton district. Go down to the beachfront Cascias , about 30 minutes away from Lisbon, and enjoy some fresh seafood. (Note: While Portugal is currently closed to American tourists, it is expected to reopen this summer ; for the most up-to-date information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Portugal .)
Amsterdam, Netherlands
While you can't go wrong with a number of Amsterdam's historic hotels, consider renting a houseboat instead and then spend a weekend exploring the canals, eating pastries and taking in attractions like the Van Gogh Museum , which houses the largest collection of his work in the world. (Note: U.S. Citizens are not currently permitted to enter the Netherlands; for reopening updates, check with the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in the Netherlands .)
Florence, Italy
If you and your friends are fans of pasta, gelato (and who isn't?), shopping (check out the Basilica di San Lorenzo !) and history, then this is a top destination. Take a bus or walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo to see the entire city center of Florence from a whole different view. This plaza provides a spectacular look at the Duomo . (Note: While Italy is currently closed to American tourists, it is expected to reopen this summer ; for the most up-to-date information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Italy .)
Marrakesh, Morocco
Okay, so it's likely a longer flight than most of these destinations, and definitely a splurge but certainly a memorable experience. Take in the landscapes at the Jardin Majorelle and then make your way to the YSL museum to learn all about the creator of the fashion brand and his ties to Morocco. Want to feel like a true celebrity? Grab a drink at the famous La Mamounia Hotel and snap a picture in any one of their Insta-famous mosaic-tile rooms. (Note: American tourists are allowed to enter Morocco as long as they meet certain requirements, like confirmed hotel or travel agency reservations and a negative PCR COVID-19 test; for more information, check with the U.S. Embassy & Consulates in Morocco .)

EXPLORING THE PICTURESQUE STREETS OF KYOTO IN JAPAN
Amanda twine – fly stay luxe.
I recently took a spontaneous trip to Japan with a girlfriend of mine, Faustine , whom I’d met on a luxury retreat in Bali organized by Travel Girls Getaways . Faustine and I clicked immediately and have since been on two overseas trips together. Kyoto was an absolutely perfect choice for a girl’s getaway, so much so, that I’m considering going back to spend Sakura season with my mum.
If it’s your first visit to Japan, I highly recommend you make a beeline for Kyoto, as it’s one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in Japan. We visited shrines, temples, Zen gardens and of course, ate some amazing Japanese food. We wandered around the Nishiki Food Markets, ate lunch by the river, went running through Fushimi Inari’s iconic orange Torii gates, and fed the deer in Nara.
If you’re looking for something fun and unique to do in Kyoto, hire kimonos and spend the day wandering around the picturesque streets of Gion, imagining you lived in the pre-World War II Geisha era. And if you’re lucky, you might get to see a real Geisha or Maiko on their way to work.

VISIT LAPLAND, FINLAND FOR A NIGHT IN AN IGLOO
Becky van dijk – we are travel girls & becky van dijk.
My all-time favourite girls getaway was to Lapland, Finland with a group of four girls in the deep of winter. Whilst this trip is without doubt a splurge, sleeping in a glass igloo beneath the Northern Lights and staying in an Ice Hotel is truly a once in a lifetime experience.
What makes Lapland a great girls getaway? Well, on arrival you sledge together to your igloo; during the day you can take adventures on snowmobiles through the snow-covered forests; your evenings are spent warming up in the sauna or even a hot tub together under the stars; and finally, to finish of your days you can’t beat snuggling up for a glass of hot wine and a girls gossip in the bar.
During my trip to Lapland, we stayed at Kakslauttanen Arctic Village in a four-person glass igloo. In addition to these famous glass igloos you can stay in a large log cabin if you are a larger group of girls travelling together. We had so much fun drinking in the igloo bar and then sledging with glasses of wine (probably not actually allowed) back to our own igloo each evening!
After all the fun at Kakslauttanen we went onwards to Ivalo to stay at the Arctic Snow Hotel . Here we got to sleep for a night under the ice, drink in the dome shaped ice bar and have our meal in a full ice restaurant.
You can read my full Lapland guide and 5-day itinerary for this perfect girls getaway.

ADMIRING THE STUNNING CITY OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA
Inka creswell – inka creswell.
If you are looking for pure adventure on your next girl’s getaway there are few places that compare to the stunning cities of Rajasthan India.
I first travelled to India when I was twenty with my best friend. Despite concerns about being two young girls travelling alone through India it was the most incredible experience which I cannot recommend enough.
Whether you choose to explore the beautiful blue streets of Jodhpur, take a stroll around the stunning lakes surrounding Udaipur, look for hidden gems in the markets of Jaipur or take a midnight camel ride through the deserts of Pushkar you are guaranteed to have the trip of a lifetime.
This stunning country is full of endless opportunities for adventure, abundant with stunning fortresses and palaces and with streets full of curious monkeys this city break is like no other and is guaranteed to leave you full of wanderlust.

SURFING & HIKING IN THE CHANNEL ISLANDS OF JERSEY
Ellie quinn – the wandering quinn.
‘The Channel Island of Jersey is a great place to go for a girl’s getaway, I should know, I’ve been twice with 2 different girlfriends!
From the UK it’s so easy to get to which makes it a perfect weekend break and once you’re there, the size of the island makes it easy to get around which is good because there is so much to do in Jersey!
I spent one-weekend Surfing, out on a boat trip spotting Dolphins and exploring the beaches with one friend. The next time I visited, we went walking along the many hiking trails that line the islands impressive coastline and explored the city of St Helier.
Jersey is known for its food and I can see why, it’s all so delicious, especially if you eat seafood. But even if you don’t, it’s still world class. From shopping, spas, historic monuments and many more water sports, there are so many ways in which Jersey can be enjoyed.

EXPLORING LISBON’S CULTURE AND FOOD SCENE
Christine wheeler – live love run travel.
Lisbon, Portugal is full of rich culture and history, amazing food, and Instagrammable locations and is a great place to visit with your girlfriends!
Start early to enjoy the sunrise at Miradouro de Santa Luzia or the nearby Portas do Sol. And you can’t miss Jeronimo’s Monastery and Belem Tower. Most attractions are open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Make sure to visit Rua Augusta to see the famous arch early. But I recommend you go to Pink Street a little later in the morning after it has been cleaned up from the parties the night before.
Take some time to admire the tilework in the Alfama district and Bairro Alto – you can take the elevadores if you’re tired from all that walking.
On your trip, budget in an extra day (or two) for visiting the castles and palaces of Sintra. Located less than an hour away, you will be transported back in time with the grand structures like Pena Palace and Quinta de Regaleira.

MARGARITAS & BEACHES IN TULUM, MEXICO
Michelle halpern – live like it’s the weekend.
My favorite girl’s getaway this year was without a doubt to Tulum, Mexico for a friend’s bachelorette party.
Tulum is one of those destinations that can be both super low key and easy and also a little wild when it needs to be! There’s everything you could need there for a home run girls trip, from beautiful beaches and flowing margaritas to relaxing spas, great shopping and epic jungle parties.
We spent lazy mornings getting a local brunch in town (Tulum has some of the best restaurants!) before making our way to the beach to work on our tans.
If you’re looking for the best places to grab dinner and cocktail with your girlfriends, don’t miss Rosa Negra, Azulik, Gitano’s (they have epic Friday night parties) and Posada Margherita. Then head to Papaya Playa Project for a fun night of dancing to jungle beats on the beach. It’s an absolute must do trip!
To plan the perfect trip be sure to read our favorite Airbnbs in Tulum !

SHOPPING, DINING & GLAMPING IN MOROCCO
Alexandra saper – the wayfaress.
For unique experiences catering to many different travel preferences, look no further than Marrakech. The cultural enthusiast will love walking through the medieval medina, ancient mosques and palaces, and lively food stalls in the Jemaa El-Fnaa Square.
For the artists and shopaholics of the group, there’s no better place to find the widest selection and highest quality Moroccan handicrafts — from colorful rugs to hand-welded lanterns and jewelry, to unique leather goods, and more.
The foodies will be thrilled to find world-renowned restaurants serving some of the best cuisine in the country. The luxury-lovers will swoon at the palatial riads (traditional Moroccan homes with iconic central courtyards) that you can call “home” during your stay. And for those looking for a bit of adventure, the Sahara Desert’s sprawling golden dunes are nearby, for a couple nights of glamping, camel rides, ATV excursions, and dining under the stars.

ACTION PACKED ADVENTURES IN NORTHERN NORWAY
Alyssa ramos – my life’s a travel movie.
If your friends are as adventurous as you are, plan an epic trip to Northern Norway during the winter months for a badass girl’s getaway! Who says adrenaline activities are for boys? Grab your girls and jump on some snowmobiles as you race across the frozen tundra, passing three country borders on the way to the meeting point of Norway, Sweden, and Finland!
Next, stop by an authentic reindeer farm for some furry friend selfies and insight to the indigenous culture.
Last but not least, layer on ALL your clothes and head out in the middle of the night to chase the Northern Lights ! Literally, nothing is more magical!

A ROAD TRIP THROUGH AUSTRALIA’S RED CENTRE
Sarah & amy todhunter – mooski adventures.
Thinking of where to take a memorable trip with the girls? Somewhere different and a bit more magical?
Then look no further than Australia’s ‘Red Centre’!
This place is unlike any other, you will fill your days soaking up the Indigenous Australian culture, one of the Oldest Living Cultures in the World. You’ll also marvel over natural phenomenons, watching the sunrise and set over ancient landscapes, and sleeping under a sky full of stars.
With something to suit everyone – you can either bike, Segway or even Skydive Uluru. Try hiking through Kata Tjuta (Uluru’s bigger brother), or take a dip in the refreshing waterholes and gorges in the West and East MacDonnell Ranges. Or, if you’re up for a detour, the Kings Canyon Rim Walk is an absolute must-do!
There are many ways to experience this beautiful region, but the best way is to hire a car and start road-tripping through endless outback colours in every shade of red, orange and yellow!

GO ON SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA
Sarah louise – sarah’s trek.
Although we do love a horizontal holiday on the beach, my girlfriends and I tend to get restless after day one, which is where an active getaway ticks all the boxes. Flying to Johannesburg, then driving up to Kruger National Park, ensures road trip vibes and plenty of opportunity for carpool karaoke!
You can choose to stay in a lodge together, and spend mornings spotting elephants in the bush, lunch by the pool and evenings clinking bubbles or tracking hyenas.
A safari also offers daily flexibility for the group – if some of the group are feeling fragile from the previous night they can miss the morning game drive, whilst others can sign up for extras like hiking or a walking safari.
Best friends + elephants = a getaway you will never forget!

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY IN CABO SAN LUCAS
Christina vidal – jetset christina.
There’s nowhere quite like Cabo for a girls getaway. The surreal setting at the tip of Baja California combined with world-class all-inclusive hotels, delicious Mexican food, a great nightlife, and days filled with sunshine and margaritas make it tough to beat this Mexican paradise.
And, if that’s not enough to convince you, a flight down to Cabo from the USA is usually only a couple of hours (and direct from many places), and villas and even all-inclusive hotels in the city can be really reasonable, making it a great excuse to get away for a few days, without breaking the bank.
With a group, you’re going to want to stay near Medano Beach, the heart and soul of Cabo San Lucas, and at night head to El Squid Roe for some dancing.

A SCENIC TOUR AROUND THE FAROE ISLANDS
Phoebe kenny – kaptain kenny travel.
A couple of months ago I returned from the trip of a lifetime to the Faroe Islands, where I met a lovely girl, Lauren . During the month of October, in the short space of seven days, together we left Earth. Momentarily of course. We visited another planet and returned with Faroese tales.
For me, ‘the trip of a lifetime’ means that I am alone, discovering a new place without too many tourists to contend with. The Faroe Islands taught me that the landscape on Earth can be so impressive and all-consuming that it’s even possible to feel small and insignificant among its grandeur. It’s funny how a mountain can teach you to stop sweating the small stuff.
After hitting the road with the car, the trip soon became a classic sense of ‘let’s go get lost’ and drive, baby. We followed our loins and well, it was a pretty good first try.
After chasing the scenic routes, the landscape went from being slightly mountainous and a rich auburn brown to being foggy, mystical and dark green. We took many a swift turn to just sit absorbing it all, listening to Ludovico Einaudi. After such a long and arduous journey, it was lovely to be rewarded with some spectacular Mother Nature.
It was at this very point that we knew the next seven days were going to be unforgettable and full of colour, life, and adventure. Not only because we had found paradise, but because we were experiencing it together. We weren’t wrong. The Faroe Islands delivered.

6 Cruises That Are Perfect for a Girls Trip
These cruise lines make planning your next girls trip a breeze.
Courtesy of Norwegian Cruises
A girls trip is always a good idea, but organizing one can be stressful — especially when you take into account everyone’s varied interests, preferences, and budgets. To alleviate the stress of planning an epic girls getaway, consider embarking on a cruise, where everything you could ever want or need (think: ample drinking and dining options, amenities, and activities) can be found right on board. Plus, there are dozens of different destinations and lines to choose from, which means options truly abound. Abbie Clinton, CEO of Got Your Bash recommends having your next girls trip at sea for the “all-inclusive aspect.” What’s more, she explains, “The nice thing about cruises is that you can know exactly what you’re spending before you even board the ship. Obviously, this doesn’t include what you’re spending in the port, but when on board, you know your food and drinks (always weigh the options of the packages) are going to be included.” She also notes that cruises are especially great since “everyone is together in one spot, [yet they] can also do their own thing” and are not tied to a tight schedule.
With all this in mind, we’ve rounded up the top cruise lines that are perfect for a girls trip — including expert-approved and award-winning picks.

Celebrity Cruises

For a luxurious cruising experience, Clinton recommends setting sail with Celebrity , whose fleet of swanky ships will impress everyone in the group. Sea days are well spent at the spa or lounging by the pools; alternatively, those who prefer to stay active can do yoga, hit the gym, play pickleball, or hit the shops. When hunger calls, gather everyone together before heading to one of the stylish onboard eateries, many of which are complimentary, such as the haute French restaurant, Normandie. However, for a worth-it splurge — perhaps for your last night on board — check out one of the specialty dining venues, including Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud or Le Petit Chef; options vary depending on the ship. Pre- or post-dinner, grab a drink at one of the sleek bars or sign up for a wine or mixology class before moving on to the casino. “Also,” says Clinton, “the entertainment on these cruise ships is unbelievable,” with options running the gamut from silent discos to Quasar, the onboard nightclub (on select ships). Book one of the five-night Bahamas and Mexico sailings for an easy — and fun-filled — warm-weather escape.
Carnival Cruise Line
Courtesy of Carnival Cruises
Carnival Cruise Line is among Clinton’s top picks for a wallet-friendly girls trip at sea. Plus, with over two dozen ships sailing from major U.S. cities like New York, Charleston, Los Angeles, Tampa, Miami, and more, it’s easy to find an itinerary that works for everyone in the group. Each Carnival vessel offers dozens of splashy activities and entertainment options — from roller coasters to water slides to mini golf — meaning it’s pretty much impossible to be bored on board. While adventure and adrenaline enthusiasts are at play, the serenity seekers of the groups can head to the aptly named Cloud 9 spa or adults-only Serenity space. Girls groups that are tight on time may consider booking one of the short-but-sweet two-day Bahamas sailings from Miami or the three-day Baja Mexico itineraries from Los Angeles , which start at $189 and $224 per person, respectively — talk about a steal.
Virgin Voyages
Courtesy of Virgin Voyages
Clinton describes Virgin Voyages as “fun, funky, and out there.” This (very accurate) description — combined with the line’s top-notch drinking and dining options (read: no buffets!), adults-only ambiance, and over-the-the-top entertainment offerings and amenities (including onboard tattoo parlors and risque cabaret shows) — makes it ideal for high-energy, party-centric groups. Just take it from T+L’s special projects editor, Elizabeth Rodes, who writes, “My sister and I went on a Virgin Voyages Irresistible Med sailing last summer, and it was the ultimate girls trip. The adults-only cruise line is known for its over-the-top parties, delicious a la carte restaurants (hello, Korean BBQ!), and super-Instagrammable spaces. Add partying in Ibiza, shopping in St. Tropez, and visiting picture-perfect Portofino, and it was the perfect sister vacation." Pro tip: Suite guests also gain access to Richard’s Rooftop, a members-only lounge area offering pre-dinner cocktail hours, stargazing parties, and more. Finally, for itineraries a bit closer to home, check out one of the line’s Caribbean sailings ranging from four to eight nights in length.

Holland America Line
Courtesy of Holland America
Those craving a more refined onboard experience should book a Holland America Line sailing. In August 2022, my younger sister and I cruised to Alaska with the line and loved every moment of our onboard experience. We spent our days out gawking at the glacial views out by the pool, sipping coffee and spotting whales from the Explorer’s Lounge, and relaxing in the spa’s thermal suite — with breaks for coffee, lunch, and cocktails, albeit not exactly in that order. Before we knew it, it was time for dinner, though the night didn’t end immediately afterward. We kept the fun going with trips to the casino plus a round (or two) of drinks at the bar. Holland America Line is famous for its live music offerings. My sister and I loved watching — and singing along to — the dueling piano performances at Billboard Onboard before retreating to our contemporary stateroom for some z’s. I may be biased, but I especially recommend booking the seven-day Alaskan Explorer itinerary , which cruises round trip from Seattle and calls on postcard-worthy ports like Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Sitka, Ketchikan, and Victoria (British Columbia).
Norwegian Cruise Line
Norwegian Cruise Line is known for its fun and fuss-free approach to cruising (read: no set reservation times or dress codes). With that in mind, groups are not tied to set schedules, allowing travelers to explore — or relax — at their own pace. Prefer to spend the day snoozing by the pool while your friends opt to zip down water slides together? Go for it. Alternatively, check out The Waterfront, a quarter-mile-long oceanfront promenade, retreat to the adults-only Vibe Beach Club, or race your friends while go-karting (options vary depending on the ship). Picky eaters, rejoice: NCL offers a slew of bars and restaurants to choose from featuring cuisine from all across the globe. Come nighttime, groups can take their pick of seemingly endless entertainment options, including Broadway-caliber productions, deck parties, stand-up comedy, and (so much) more. For a worth-it splurge, split a stateroom in The Haven by Norwegian, a ship-within-a-ship concept offering luxury accommodations and 24-hour butler service. NCL offers sailings from major U.S. cities like New Orleans, Galveston, New York, Boston, and Los Angeles.

Royal Caribbean
Courtesy of Royal Caribbean
Know for its massive mega-ships and flashy onboard activities and entertainment (think: escape rooms, ten-story slides, zip lines, bumper cars, ice skating, and surfing and skydiving simulators, though exact options vary depending on the ship), Royal Caribbean cruises truly offer something fun for everyone — especially kids-at-heart. However, that’s not to say the line doesn’t have adult-centric offerings, either. Soak up the sun from the secluded Solarium, an indoor-outdoor space exclusively reserved for grown-ups. The spa is also an excellent spot for those seeking a calming reprieve from the bustling common areas. My friend and I embarked on a Royal Caribbean sailing a few years back and were blown away by the onboard neighborhood offerings (which vary depending on the ship), from the carousel and candy shop at the Boardwalk to the swanky shops and lush flora of Central Park and beyond. While specialty dining options vary based on the ship, I recommend sitting down for a group dinner at Izumi Hibachi & Sushi; meanwhile, The Chef’s Table offers a more elevated and intimate experience — complete with a mouthwatering multi-course food and wine pairing menu — that will entice the gourmand in every girl group. You can’t go wrong with one of the line’s weekend cruises , which sail from Port Canaveral, Miami, Galveston, or Los Angeles.

- How to Plan a Girls…
Learn how to plan a girls trip without ruining your friendship.
A girls trip is hands down the best travel getaway you can ever imagine – especially if you’re doing it with your gang. But its success boils down to only one thing – planning.
Well, I am writing this from experience. My girls and I drove down to Malindi, and it was memorable. The matching blue short pants and white tops, the all-white little dresses, and so on – we had it all figured out.
Or at least we thought we did.
See, this was our second girls trip. The first one was in Diani – and we stayed at one of the girl’s house. So, no one had to worry about accommodation or food. We also didn’t worry about fun things to do in Diani or places to visit. Our friend, who doubled up as a tour guide, took care of all that.
Now, we were venturing to some new town on the second trip. We had yet to go to Malindi. Things were not very straightforward.
But I am grateful for the experience as it taught me valuable lessons on planning a girls trip. If you and your homegirls are planning something similar, here’s what you need to do:

Decide on a Budget
There are several important factors to consider when planning a girls trip, and the chief among these is budgeting. Deciding how much money you can afford to spend on your trip sets the tone for the rest of your planning process as it will dictate other key considerations like:
- Your destination
- The length of travel time
- Your activities
- Expectations
If you don’t know your budget, it won’t be easy to decide where you want to go or how much you can spend on specific activities. It also becomes easier for costs and unexpected expenses to spiral out of control.
My friends and I had a budget for our girls trip to Malindi. We had set aside $30 each for accommodation and food. Each person was to carry their money and only contribute when we had to pay for something. Depending on how you plan, this can be a great approach. However, I’ll point out later why combining the money can be a good idea before setting out for the trip.
Tips for Budgeting for your Girls Trip
At the outset, it is crucial to recognize that there is no “one size fits all” approach to budgeting for a girls trip. Different trips require different spending levels depending on your destination and planned activities.
For example, if you’re planning a long-haul trip and looking for new cultural experiences, you may need to allocate more money for activities or transportation than you would for a shorter weekend getaway at a local hotel. Likewise, if you want to go on pricey excursions such as ziplining or water sports, you’ll need to carefully consider how much money you’re willing to spend ahead of time so that you don’t end up going over budget during the trip itself and being disappointed in what little spending money you have left.
Here are budget tips when you plan a girls trip
- Let the team propose an amount
- Discuss and agree on an amount
- Decide whether you’ll have one person collect the money – or if each person will keep the money. The former is better for planning reasons and ensuring unity in everything.
- Stick to the budget while on a trip, especially if one friend cannot go over their expected expenses.
It can be tough to talk about money with friends. But ensuring all girls are aware of their spending expectations can address any concerns upfront and minimize potential tension.
Agree on a Destination
The next step is to agree on a destination. This can be tricky, especially if you have friends with different travel preferences. Some may want to go somewhere warm and sunny, while others prefer a more low-key location. If you’re having trouble agreeing on a single destination, try brainstorming a list of potential places to visit and then voting on your favorite option.
We were able to come up with a destination easily. We all wanted the coastal regions of Kenya. And since we had already visited Diani on the south coast, we all agreed to go the opposite way, Malindi, on the north coast.

Tips for Choosing a Travel Destination
When choosing a destination for your girls trip, there are a few key factors to keep in mind, such as:
- The time of year you want to travel – If you’re looking to avoid crowds, it’s best to travel during the shoulder season or off-season. This will also help you save money on flights and accommodation.
- Your group’s interests – If your friends are all foodies, for instance, choosing a destination known for its culinary scene can make for a more enjoyable trip. Similarly, if your friends are all nature lovers, picking a place with plenty of outdoor activities will ensure everyone has a good time.
- Your budget – The most important factor to consider when choosing a destination is your budget. If you’re traveling on a tight budget, it’s important to choose a place where you can easily find affordable accommodation and activities. But if you’re splurging, consider a luxury destination.
- The types of activities you want – If you’re interested in watching the game and exploring the bushes, a safari can be a perfect getaway with your girls. And if you want to sunbathe in bikinis, consider a beach vacation.
- Time constraints: if you only have a few days or weeks to travel, you’ll need to choose a destination that is easy to reach. You want to save time on the road.
Agree on a Date
Once you’ve chosen your destination, the next step is to agree on a date. This may involve considering each person’s work and family commitments, school holidays, and other factors affecting everyone’s availability. The idea is to ensure no one misses the moment. When you agree on a date, have everyone mark it on their calendars, so everyone is on the same page. Consider a date that’s 3 to 4 months away so you can take advantage of transport and accommodation deals.
Book your Accommodation and Transport in Advance
Some people prefer booking accommodation and transport once they arrive at their destination, but it’s always better to book these in advance. This allows you to be organized, save money and time – especially important if you’re on a tight budget. Booking your flights and accommodation early allows you to compare different options to get the best deals. It also allows you to have more control over your travel arrangements.
By securing these items well ahead of time, you will be able to get the best deals and ensure that everything is arranged exactly how you want. It will also help remove any uncertainty or last-minute stress that can often occur when traveling with a group.
Make Your Wardrobe Selection
This is the most exciting part of the planning process! Once you’ve decided on a destination and secured your flights and accommodation, start sifting through your wardrobe to decide what you want to bring on your girls trip. Pack plenty of bikinis, cover-ups, and sandals if you’re headed to the beach. For a safari getaway, bring neutral-colored items in breathable fabrics. And for a city break, stock up on stylish dresses and comfortable shoes that can take you from the museum to the bar.
While on it, remember that you and your squad will have to coordinate a look for at least one day – for the gram. Whether it’s matching swimsuits, floral dresses, or even neon-colored jumpsuits, plan out your outfits so you can hit the ground running as soon as you arrive.
Plan a Few Activities
It’s important to plan a few activities before you travel so that everyone knows what to expect and can look forward to the experience. Research the local attractions in your chosen destination and make sure there’s something for everyone. Whether it’s a cooking class, surf lessons, or a wine-tasting session – find activities that will pique your group’s interest and ensure everyone has something to do during the trip.
Incorporate Some Downtime
Also, consider incorporating some downtime into your itinerary. This will allow you to sit back and relax or explore the area on your own. Remember to leave a few nights open for dinner and drinks – it’s always nice to have an excuse to dress up and enjoy the nightlife.
Be Flexible
No matter how much you plan, there’s still a chance that things will go differently than expected. You may miss your flight or be delayed at the airport. When this happens, it’s important to remain flexible and adapt to the situation – because sometimes those unexpected changes can lead to some of the most memorable experiences!
Quick Tips for Planning a Girls Trip
A lot goes into planning a girls trip, from booking flights and accommodation to creating the perfect wardrobe. To make sure the planning process goes smoothly and that everyone has a good time, here are a few quick tips:
- Set a realistic budget: This will help you plan activities and meals that work for everyone.
- Pick your priority: Decide whether your priority is accommodation or destination. If you spend more time in a hotel, you might lean towards accommodation. But if you’re all about the destination and its attractions, then a rental might be a better option.
- Understand what your girls need: A successful girls trip will align with what your girls need most. If they’ve been overwhelmed with responsibilities, a vacation with spa treatments and relaxation might be what they need.
- Be decisive : Don’t overwhelm your girls with options when planning the trip – they will rarely agree. Instead, make decisions ahead and present a plan for everyone to look forward to. You may even take the mystery trip approach, where you only reveal the details on the day of your departure.
- Find accommodations that encourage togetherness: Whether you’re staying in a hotel, an Airbnb, or a hostel – make sure the accommodation has enough space for everyone to hang out together.
- Be accommodative : Everyone will have different needs and expectations on the trip. Make sure you consider everyone’s desires, so everyone is happy and having a great time.
- Try something new : Don’t just stick to the same activities – encourage everyone to try something new. That could mean going on a skydiving adventure or trying out a foreign cuisine.
- Keep an open mind : You don’t have to plan every second of the trip – leave some room for spontaneity and unexpected adventures. By following these tips
By taking some time to plan your girls trip, you can ensure that it’s an enjoyable experience for everyone. Follow these tips, and before you know it, you’ll be on your way to making beautiful memories with your besties. Bon voyage!

I’ll admit it: The weekend I spent in Nashville with my best girlfriends from college was kind of a blur — in the best kind of way, ha! Nashville, or Music City , is a hotbed of country music and Southern comfort food . It’s home to the Grand Ole Opry , which hosted country music legends like Johnny Cash and Reba McIntire. You’ll find live music every day of the week at the honky-tonks and dive bars at The District , specifically Honky Tonk Row , where you must visit Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge . Nashville has such a fun energy that you’ll want to sing, dance, eat, and drink your days away.

Home to the world-famous Mardi Gras festival, New Orleans is definitely a fun destination for a girls trip. Join in on the debauchery on Bourbon Street , hands-down one of the wildest parties I’ve ever experienced. If you’re not here for the party, at least walk through the street once to see what I mean! Give in to the city’s rich history of voodoo and the supernatural and have your fortune told . Step back in time in the French Quarter . Discover New Orleans’ rich cuisine through iconic dishes like po-boys, red beans, gumbo and jambalaya. Whatever you do, don’t miss out on the beignets at longstanding institution Café du Monde .

If you prefer wine, start at Bernardo Winery and hop to any of the other nearby wineries. Looking for a party? Hit up a boozy brunch spot in town.
15. San Juan, Puerto Rico
Best for: fun island vibes Where to stay: Caribe Hilton
The best thing about a girls trip to San Juan is that you feel like you get to leave the country without actually leaving the country. San Juan feels like a Caribbean getaway , yet you reap all the benefits of domestic travel: English is widely spoken, the currency is the same, and your cellphone will work. Wander through the incredibly charming and colorful streets of Old San Juan before catching a sunset on one of the many beautiful beaches nearby. If you’re up for the adventure, rent a car and leave the main tourist strip to find more of Puerto Rico’s natural wonders. A Girls Trip Sequel Is Finally Happening
And the crew is headed to Ghana!
The Girls Trip crew is back together again.
"It's officially happening. I can say that," Oliver shared during the panel discussion for her Prime Video series, Harlem , per Variety . "[Producer Will Packer] might kill me, [but] we're looking to set it in Ghana."
Though Oliver didn't confirm what exactly is sending the foursome abroad, Harlem actress Shoniqua Shandai offered a hint, squealing, "Afrochella!" One of the country's most popular international music festivals, the event has enlisted massive global musicians such as Burna Boy, Stonebwoy, and Shatte Wale.
In the original Girls Trip , the women head to New Orleans for the city's famous Essence Fest, with cameos from Diddy, Ne-Yo, and New Edition.
The first film was a box-office hit and grossed more than $140 million globally on just a $16 million budget. Malcolm D. Lee directed the comedy, while it was produced by Packer and co-written by Oliver and Kenya Barris ( Blackish, #BlackAF, You People ).
The core cast has yet to comment on the sequel news, but watch this space for more updates as they come.
Bianca Betancourt is the culture editor at HarpersBAZAAR.com , where she covers all things film, TV, music, and more. When she's not writing, she loves impulsively baking a batch of cookies, re-listening to the same early-2000s pop playlist, and stalking Mariah Carey's Twitter feed.

A Girls’ Trip to Costa Rica. But With No Phones, Did It Happen?
Travelers are signing up for phone-free tours, to try to escape technology’s tether on daily life. But would it make for a better experience?
By Christine Chung
We were on a quintessential girl’s trip to Costa Rica. Together, we gulped icy drinks by the hotel pool, were battered by waves during a surf lesson, had our tarot cards read aboard a catamaran, and danced our hearts out, powered by espresso martinis, to early 2000s anthems on a rooftop.
But we didn’t capture any of this on our phones. No Instagram stories were posted of the fun being had. No TikToks either. We didn’t text photos to friends and family in far colder climates back home.
And if there wasn’t a picture, well, did it happen? I had wondered if a vacation without my phone would reprogram my iPhone-addled brain, whether it might deepen the connections I made or improve my travel experiences. So, in mid-April, I joined a group of 10 other women in their 20s and 30s for a four-day, phone-free tour of Costa Rica’s Guanacaste Province, on the country’s northwestern coast, a picturesque place of breathtaking beaches, tropical forests and, everywhere around you, the chance of a surreal wildlife sighting.
To document my vacation, I brought only a pen, a notebook and a disposable camera.
‘More present in the moment’
FTLO Travel , which started offering group tours in 2016 for solo travelers 25 to 39 years old, organized our phone-free trip. Most FTLO clients are women, said Tara Cappel, the company’s founder and chief executive, and the majority of them are traveling solo for the first time.
The company has long had a rule prohibiting phones at dinner, she said, and the phone-free trips, which began this year, are an extension of this. “Removing that sort of temptation has always helped facilitate better bonding and conversation,” said Ms. Cappel, 35.
The hope in providing an entirely phone-free experience, she continued, is that travelers could “be present in the experience and the destination and with each other.”
She added that FTLO’s phone-free trips this year, which start at $1,699 and also head to Iceland, Mexico, Cuba and Puerto Rico, are in strong demand . My Costa Rica trip was sold out and overall, the company anticipates about 3,000 travelers across the hundreds of trips they’re offering this year.
The interest in these trips stem in part from a growing trend among travelers to try to escape technology’s tether on daily life. Operators are moving beyond offering meditation retreats and truly remote locations — even cruises and hotels in buzzy vacation hot spots these days market their disconnection experiences. At the Grand Velas Resorts , on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, guests can opt for a detox concierge, who will remove the hotel room’s flat screen television and lock all personal electronics in a safe. With Unplugged , a company specializing in tech-free escapes, you can book a “digital detox cabin” to spend three tech-free days in the English countryside.
Heather Orton, a nurse practitioner and my roommate in Costa Rica, said that going phone-free was the main reason she’d booked the FTLO trip. She’d previously gone on two trips with FTLO, to Crete and to Morocco, experiences where she made lasting friendships.
“At work I have to always have my phone on, be responsive to texts, emails and calls,” said Ms. Orton, 37, of Ohio. “It’s nice to turn that off and get away.” She said she felt she was “more present in the moment” and fully immersed in Costa Rica.
A bit like sleepaway camp
We’d come from all over the United States, including Texas, Alabama, California and Minnesota, and most of us were meeting for the very first time.
It felt like sleepaway camp, or college orientation — it was a social situation structured around group activities that quickly gave rise to new friendships, even if they were brittle ones. Two ebullient trip leaders corralled us to various activities and recited facts about local flora and fauna, all adding to the feeling of a camp for adults, and at times like being chaperoned on a school trip.
They directed us to their favorite restaurants and watering holes, and attempted to draw everyone into conversation and ensure no one felt left out. One afternoon, Mandy, one of the co-leaders and a certified yoga instructor, led a trio of us in a restorative flow at our hotel. Dani, the other trip leader, who was born in Costa Rica, was on crutches because of a recent ankle injury, but he hobbled along energetically on nights out, swaying to dance music on one leg.
Companies targeting younger travelers, like FTLO, G Adventures , Flashpack and others, aren’t touting their ability to get you to a place, but the connection they can deliver.
“The inspiration was really to help people go abroad who had the desire but didn’t necessarily have people to go with,” Ms. Cappel said of creating FTLO.
Sambavi Venkatesen, a 32-year-old therapist who lives in Austin, Texas, told me she had booked the trip after turning to TikTok to research group travel for people of color.
“The opportunity to meet other diverse women is not something that’s easily accessible in your 30s. That was kind of a big appeal,” she said, adding that she felt a real connection to other tour participants by trip's end. “I genuinely want to see people again and hope they visit me.”
Unscheduled time
We were based in Tamarindo, a lively tourist playground set along the Pacific Ocean that spanned just a few blocks, making it easy to navigate without GPS. We were given a printed map of the town, which I barely used. With my phone and laptop locked in the hotel room safe, gone were all the tools I usually rely on while traveling (and check frenetically): map and translation apps, social media and internet, for restaurant and activity searches. But thanks to the tour, this work had already been done.
We spent an afternoon ziplining through canyons and then crossed a rickety suspension bridge to plunge into the icy, refreshing waters by a waterfall. We surfed and drank beer — two activities I do not generally voluntarily sign up for. We lounged on the netted deck of a catamaran, where we watched a deep-red sun sink into the sea. Nearly every night we frequented a different nightclub.
We started the trip knowing nothing about each other’s lives, from our ages to interests. Our first night was characterized by icebreakers (“share a fun fact about yourself”) and the occasional awkward silence. But by the third night, we were screaming the lyrics to Lil Jon’s “Get Low” in the club. And the conversation grew more nuanced, as we shared stories about jobs, relationships, beloved pets and the rhythms of lives back home.
Some of the best moments happened during the time left unscheduled, when I made my own decisions about activities. A highlight of the trip was an excursion my roommate and I booked on our own, through the hotel, to kayak in a mangrove-bordered estuary, where we spotted iguanas, howler monkeys and a crocodile, watchful and still in the murky waters.
A fuzzy food photo
Overall, I didn’t miss my phone. The absence of Slack notifications and countless other digital intrusions was bliss. Conversations unspooled more fluidly than I expected they would without the crutch of a phone for idly filling silence. I slept deeper than I had in months. But my phone’s phantom presence loomed large. I swiveled my head, a Pavlovian response, when I heard the ping of another tourist's phone. My bag felt too light, which made me feel uneasy.
Mainly, I missed a good camera. Others had wisely brought digital cameras along, but I had to ration the pictures on my disposable camera, and only allowed myself to take one food photo. It’s fuzzy.
Not everyone on the trip was fully committed to the screen time ban. One night, as I tried to capture sunset using my disposable, one of my trip mates pulled out her phone and took a picture. I’m sure her photo is better than mine.
Toward the end of the trip, I learned that some other travelers had surreptitiously used their phones throughout (to text and call their moms, mostly).
But we delighted in seeing a drowsy tapir, a large mammal almost mythical because of its rarity, wake from an afternoon nap in Hacienda Guachipelin , a private property by Rincon de la Vieja National Park . There were also dozens of howler monkeys perched atop mangroves swaying in the wind, and one night, a man who was absolutely shredding on the guitar at a beachfront bar. All were incredible moments that I’ve already revisited in my memory.
On the last day of the trip, we switched our phones back on, literally jolting us back to real life with pings and vibrations. We shared Instagram handles to connect online, and I returned, almost without realizing it, to a stream of information, push notifications, digital itineraries, unfettered scrolling and the expectation of a quick reply to a message.
I’ve tried, however, to maintain the feeling of being phone-free in Tamarindo: the delicious lack of immediacy, the way time seemed to expand languidly.
Simply put, I’m using my phone less.

How Old Nick & Harriet Are In Netflix's Geek Girl (& How Their Actors Compare)
Slow horses season 4 footage reveals gary oldman's return as jackson lamb, meemaw actor's young sheldon cancelation criticism is proven right by new cbs data.
- Harriet's journey of self-discovery is relatable and empathetic, making her a fully realized character in Geek Girl.
- Changes from the book to the TV show add depth and complexity to characters like Toby and Poppy in Geek Girl.
- The representation of neurodivergence, specifically Autism, in Harriet's character is more explicit in the TV show, providing a truthful and authentic portrayal.
Geek Girl is Netflix's latest teen comedy TV show, and while it draws inspiration from the book series, it does make changes to the book's plot and story beats. Written by Holly Smale, the Geek Girl novels are loosely based on Smale’s experience as a teen model. The story follows Harriet Manners, a self-proclaimed geek, who finds her life turned upside down when she's discovered by a modeling agency. Throughout the books and the episodes, the audience can't help but relate to and empathize with Harriet's journey of self-discovery.
Part of what makes the story so popular is how fully realized Harriet is, and how fleshed out the people in her life are.
The cast and characters of Geek Girl are the heart and soul of the show, with Emily Carey, known for her breakout role in House of the Dragon , leading the series as Harriet. Part of what makes the story so popular is how fully realized Harriet is, and how fleshed out the people in her life are. Her world is populated by friends, family, and a love interest, but that's not to say she doesn't face her fair share of struggles. However, by the end of season 1, Harriet is starting to realize who she is and what she wants.
Watch Geek Girl on Netflix.
Netflix’s new series Geek Girl follows British teenager Harriet, who learns to become a supermodel despite her awkwardness and her young age.
10 Toby’s Characterization
One of harriet's high school friends, toby shares her feelings of not fitting in..
Toby (Zac Looker) is one of Harriet's friends from school. He and Nat (Rochelle Harrington) are the closest people to Harriet and help her survive the bullying she faces in school. Like Harriet, Toby is different and finds comfort in learning interesting facts about subjects he's passionate about. In the books, Harriet is a little tougher on Toby and doesn't take his friendship as seriously as she does in the show. Though Harriet is often busy with modeling, she still finds time to spend with her friends.
Though he still makes a few faux pas, like throwing up on Harriet and Nat before Fashion Week, Harriet stands up for him when Nat gets angry.
In the book, Harriet refers to Toby as her "stalker," which is something the show generally leaves out to be a bit kinder to his character. Though he still makes a few faux pas, like throwing up on Harriet and Nat before Fashion Week, Harriet stands up for him when Nat gets angry. They share a certain outlook on life because the other kids at school make fun of them. Bullying is a recurring topic in the Geek Girl TV series and books, as well as the importance of friendship in the face of it.
9 Harriet & Richard Go To Canada, Not Moscow
Their trip to russia is a large part of the book, but the setting is altered..
Geek Girl is a co-production with the UK and Canada, so it makes sense that the filmmakers chose to make Harriet's globetrotting trip take her to Canada. However, in the novel, she and her Dad, Richard (Tim Downie), travel to Moscow for Harriet's first outing as a real model. In both cases, they hide the truth from Nat and Harriet's stepmother, Annabel (Jemima Rooper). Of course, this causes major trouble for Harriet and her father in the long run.
If Geek Girl gets a season 2, it will be interesting to see where the show takes Harriet next. In the second book of the series, Harriet goes to Japan, but since the Moscow setting is changed, Geek Girl has the opportunity to send Harriet anywhere in the world. It doesn't change the essential facts and impact of the trip by making it Canada instead of Moscow, and based on global politics, it makes sense the writers choose Canada, even if the journey is a touch less glamorous.
8 Harriet Goes To Fashion Week Instead Of An Expo
In the show, harriet's school takes a trip to fashion week where she's discovered..
Fashion Week is a large part of the modeling community and experience, and hopefully, in the next few seasons, the audience will see Harriet getting to participate in a fashion week of her own.
Fashion Week is a large part of the modeling community and experience, and hopefully, in the next few seasons, the audience will see Harriet getting to participate in a fashion week of her own. However, in the show, Harriet, Nat, Toby, and their whole class win a school trip to London Fashion Week, where Harriet makes an unexpected splash. When she's singled out by Wilbur (Emmanuel Imani), Harriet immediately panics and tries to get as far away from the modeling world as possible.
This is because it's Nat's dream to be a model, and she doesn't want to hurt her best friend. However, in the book, Harriet and Nat go to a fashion expo together for the express purpose of Nat getting discovered. Harriet only accompanies her for moral support, making it even harder for Nat when Harriet is the one the agents want. Like all the best TV show friendships , Nat and Harriet have their ups and downs, and Harriet tries to get Nat into the fashion world, but she can't make it happen for her friend.
7 Representation Of Neurodivergence Is More Explicit
The series creators and writers have been open about harriet being coded as autistic..
It's never explicitly stated in the books or the show that Harriet has Autism, but Smale and the entire team behind the project have been clear that Harriet's neurodivergence is implied. When Smale wrote the books and included traits she exhibited as a teen in Harriet's character, she had not yet been diagnosed with Autism but has stated since that Harriet has it, just like her. This change in characterization was taken into consideration while making the show to best represent Harriet and be truthful to Smale's experience.
Smale and the producers have discussed how they wanted Harriet's Autism to feel authentic and be a regular part of her everyday experiences the way it would be in real life. Though the Geek Girl books still include Harriet exhibiting traits like wearing headphones in class, having difficulty in certain social situations, and being especially interested in certain subjects, the novels weren't written with the express intent of representation in mind. The show, however, takes all of this into account and attempts to be clearer about what it means.
6 Poppy’s Character Is Changed
She's a smaller character in the novels, and she first appears in book 2, not 1..
Poppy (Daisy Jelly) is introduced early on in the Geek Girl show as Nick's "girlfriend," who he's only with publicly for their personas as models on social media. The fact that they're not together is great news for Harriet, who's been smitten with Nick since the moment they met. However, Poppy turns out to be the biggest bully and villain of Geek Girl season 1, as she comes after Harriet for supposedly stealing her spotlight and fake boyfriend.
Smale has said that parts of book 2 made their way into season 1 to fill out the plot, and Poppy's storyline is one of these instances.
However, Poppy doesn't appear until book 2 of the Geek Girl series, meeting Harriet in Tokyo and trying to sabotage her career there. Smale has said that parts of book 2 made their way into season 1 to fill out the plot, and Poppy's storyline is one of these instances. Additionally, in book 2, Model Misfit , Poppy convinces Harriet that she and Nick used to be together while Harriet and Nick go through a rough patch. Fortunately, the show sees Nick stand up for Harriet and himself when it comes to Poppy.
5 Yuka’s Name Is Changed To Yuji
Nick's aunt and famed fashion designer is the one who sparks the search for harriet..
The character Yuji Lee (Sandra Yi Sencindiver) was renamed from Yuka Ito in the books, but the name change didn't affect the core traits of her character. Yuji is Nick's aunt and the person who requests that a fresh new face be found for her big campaign. When Yuji asks for a new model, it spurs Wilbur to look for beauty in unexpected places, which is exactly where he finds Harriet. Though Yuji is an enigmatic figure, she finds her heart softened by Harriet's tenacity and spirit.
Later in the series, after Harriet has made a huge mistake and jeopardizes a perfume ad, Nick is the one who comes to Yuji and convinces her to give Harriet another shot. It's not clear why the show decided to change the character's name to Yuji, but it's a small change that only dedicated book fans will notice. Many of the best fashion movies and TV shows feature a slightly eccentric designer who wants things to go their way. While Yuji fits this archetype on paper, she's also a kind person who recognizes other people's values.
4 Annabel Doesn't Move Out Of The House After Richard & Harriet Lie
Harriet's stepmother forgives and forgets more quickly in the show..
Annabel doesn't approve of Harriet becoming a model because she's worried it will interfere with her schoolwork.
Annabel, Richard, and Harriet have a great family dynamic and strong relationships built on trust. It's clear from the beginning that Harriet's home life is one of the most consistent and dependable aspects of her adolescent development. However, a turning point in the series comes when Richard and Harriet lie about going to Canada. Annabel doesn't approve of Harriet becoming a model because she's worried it will interfere with her schoolwork. She wants Harriet to be able to pursue a career that she's passionate about.
However, unlike the book, when Annabel discovers they went to Canada and confronts them about it, she's immediately supportive and forgiving towards Harriet. She goes on to support Harriet and her choices throughout the show. Richard doesn't get off so easily as he's supposed to be Annabel's partner and co-parent. Eventually, they reconcile, and Annabel reveals she's pregnant. Before Annabel tells the family in the book, she moves out of the house because she's so upset. Having her stay and be there for Harriet was a better character choice for the show.
3 Social Media Is A Big Part Of The Show
Unlike the book which was published in 2013..
While social media has been part of the teenage experience for a long time now, it wasn't nearly as prevalent and all-consuming in 2013 as it is today. The series isn't a period piece and is firmly set in the present day, incorporating the importance of an online presence for models, actors, and influencers of all types. Poppy has a significant following and uses her PR relationship with Nick to sell things through brand partnerships. Enormous pressure is put on Harriet to gain followers and present a version of herself that isn't real online.
Additionally, social media is used to harm others in the show as much as it is in real life. Hurtful pictures are taken of Harriet and posted online when she least expects it and without her consent. Portraying phone use and the impact of social media in film and television is difficult because it's such a prevalent part of life but doesn't easily translate to the screen. Despite this, Geek Girl does a good job of making phone use seem as natural as possible and being in conversation with the impact that being online has on teenager's development.
2 Nick & Harriet’s First Meeting
Instead of bumping heads under a table, the pair share some sweet banter..
Nick is a great love interest for Harriet throughout the show in more ways than one. It's clear from the moment they lay eyes on each other that they have a connection, and Nick continuously appreciates and likes Harriet for who she is no matter what. He puts his public persona and career on the line for her because he knows she's something special and deserves the chance to show the world. The book sees Harriet and Nick cross paths when Harriet dives under a table at the fashion expo to avoid getting noticed.
In the show, Harriet notices Nick walking at Fashion Week and runs into him again later after being whisked away by Wilbur.
Of course, whenever Harriet tries to avoid detection, it often makes a splash, and this was one of those cases. However, in the show, Harriet notices Nick walking at Fashion Week and runs into him again later after being whisked away by Wilbur. Nick witnesses Harriet's hat debacle, which remains consistent across the show and book. However, if anything, that only makes him more interested. As they get to know each other, a genuine relationship grows, and it's clear they have more in common than meets the eye.
1 Harriet Posting A Video Is The Reason She Quits Modeling
However, both plot points have the same results..
Harriet's trajectory towards fame is interrupted halfway through Geek Girl season 1 when she makes the mistake of revealing a secret perfume campaign to her social media followers. Frustrated by Poppy's interference in her relationship with Nick and the negative comments she's getting on the internet, Harriet takes matters into her own hands and tries to explain things to everyone. However, it backfires, and everyone is furious with her, which convinces Harriet that she's not cut out for this world.
This ties into the impact that social media has on the TV show in general. Harriet's biggest mistake and the decision to quit modeling aren't spurred by her posting this video in the book. However, it makes a lot of sense for this to be the catalyst based on how important posting on the internet is to the series' plot. Fortunately, Harriet is convinced to give modeling another shot and proves how much she deserves to be there by the end.

Jennie Kim Channels Her Inner LES Girl on a Trip to New York City
By Irene Kim
If there’s one thing Jennie Kim is known for, it’s her superb fashion taste. The singer, dancer, and actress has a versatile sense of style that lends itself to any occasion, and most recently channeled the quintessential LES girl on a trip to New York City.
Sporting some downtown favorite brands including Sandy Liang socks and Gentle Monster sunglasses, she paired her accessories with a vintage Hysteric Glamour leather jacket, Adidas sneakers, and a Lemaire croissant bag for the perfect mix of grungy and classic. In her fashionable ’fit, Kim visited some of the Lower East Side’s most beloved boutiques, including 75 East Broadway (which hosts vintage stores like James Veloria ), and headed to Dimes Square where she popped into Bode . There, she tried on some new accessories like the Maplemoth ribbon crown, Monday bandana, and Face beret, sharing the buzzy pieces with her 85 million Instagram followers. Of course, Kim made sure to capture some ’fit pics inside the store, which is among those Gen Z has dubbed “ aesthetic .”

While we’re unsure what else Kim while roaming the Lower East Side, we’re hoping she stopped at Le Dive for a martini or Casetta for a glass of wine—then skated away to her hotel for the rest of the evening.

Teen who lost a hand, leg in florida shark attack was on first beach trip with mom: ‘i saw her wounds … and started to scream’.

The mother of one of two teenage girls attacked by a shark in Florida over the weekend described the horror of seeing her daughter looking “lifeless” after having her hand and part of her leg bitten off, likening it to “something out of a movie.”
Lulu Gribbin, 15, was attacked Friday along a four-mile stretch of the Florida coastline that also saw another Alabama teen, McCray Faust, 17, bitten on the foot and a 45-year-old Virginia woman, Elisabeth Foley, losing part of her left hand, according to WDHN.
Gribbin’s mom, Ann Blair Gribbin, said she was on her “first mother-daughter beach trip” with other friends from Birmingham when she got word there were sharks in the water — before Lulu’s twin sister, Ellie, ran up and told her Lulu had been attacked.
“I saw her wounds on her leg and started to scream,” the mom wrote on caringbridge.org.
“She was lifeless her eyes closed mouth white and pale. The wound on her leg or all that was left of her leg was something out of a movie. I finally made it back to her and held her hand and she saw me, and I told her I was there.”
Two doctors who were on vacation together happened to be in the water during the attacks — and provided potentially life-saving care to the wounded girl, who was quickly airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, about an hour and 20 minutes away by car.
“We prayed the entire way,” the distraught mom wrote.
Once at the hospital, Gribbin learned that her daughter had lost her left hand in the attack and that doctors had to amputate her right leg halfway between her knee and hip.
She also lost two-thirds of the blood in her body in the horrifying attack, her mother said.
“Of course, no one wants that for your child but she is alive,” the mom wrote.
On Saturday, Lulu’s vitals had improved so much that the tube was taken out of her throat and she began breathing on her own.
“This was a first big step,” Gribbin wrote. “Once she was settled her first words to us were ‘I made it.’ And boy she did.”
Gribbin expressed gratitude for the hospital staff and the doctors and nurses who were on the beach and provided life-saving care to her daughter.
“At this point we will have multiple surgeries in the days to come and our lives will be forever changed. Lulu is strong, beautiful, brave and so many more things I can’t count. God has a plan for her, and we will be there to support her every way we can,” she wrote.
About an hour and a half before the teens were attacked, 45-year-old Virginia woman Elisabeth Foley was bitten by a shark four miles away.
The wife and mother of three suffered severe injuries to her midsection and the loss of her left hand, WTVR reported.
Officials believe the same shark attacked both Foley and the two teens.

N.J. girl, 6, dies after badminton racquet breaks, pierces her skull during Maine vacation

A 6-year-old New Jersey girl has died days after the aluminum shaft of a badminton racquet pierced her skull while she was playing with her brothers and sister during a vacation at a lake cottage in Maine, authorities and the family said.
The Morgan family, who live in the Stockholm section of Hardyston in Sussex County, were enjoying their last full day of vacation in Limerick on Saturday afternoon when tragedy struck, according to the girl’s father Jesse Morgan, a pastor at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway Township.
After the family finished eating lunch by the lake just before noon, the children went to the front yard to play badminton, Morgan said.
Lucy was sitting on the sidelines when the racquet being used by her 10-year-old brother broke on a downward swing, dislodging the aluminum shaft from the wooden handle, Maine State Police said.
The shaft then entered Lucy’s skull, causing a traumatic brain injury, the family and authorities said.
Lucy was brought by ambulance to an area hospital before being flown to a hospital in Portland, Maine. She died of her injuries four days later — early Wednesday morning.
“This is such a sad, tragic situation,” Maine State Police said. “Our hearts break for the family.”
Jesse Morgan shared details about Lucy’s fight for survival this week on his blog, New Creation Living .
Lucy is survived by her parents Jesse and Bethany Morgan as well as her 10-year-old brother, 8-year-old sister and 4-year-old brother. The family has since returned to New Jersey. Lucy’s funeral is planned for June 15.
A GoFundMe.com established to support the Morgan family has raised more than $87,000 as of Friday morning.

Tragedy hits North Jersey family after 'freak' badminton accident leaves 6-year-old dead
Lucy Morgan, 6, was enjoying time spent at her family's lakeside cottage in Maine earlier this month, collecting tadpoles in buckets with her sister, taking rides on the family's kayak and when the sun caused weariness, a rest on the hammock with dad was in order.
But it all came to a crashing halt on the Sussex County family's last full day vacationing in Limerick, Maine, when a freak accident involving a badminton racket led to the girl's death and a family reeling from their loss.
Limerick Fire and EMS responders arrived at the family's home around noon on June 1 on a report Lucy had been injured, according to Shannon Moss, the public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
After finishing their lunch, the family's four children went to the front yard to play a game of badminton while their parents, Jesse and Bethany Morgan, relaxed in the backyard. It was then that the parents heard screaming, said Jesse Morgan, who lives in the Stockholm section of Hardyston with his family.
Investigators say the aluminum shaft of a racket had become dislodged from the wooden handle, causing the shaft to strike Lucy, who was sitting on the sidelines, in the head, piercing her skull. The incident occurred when a family member had used the racket on a downward swing, Morgan said.
Lucy was taken via medical helicopter to a nearby pediatric hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Portland, Maine. Four days later, Lucy died due to her injuries, authorities and the family said.
"The Maine State Police would like to extend their deepest condolences to the Morgan family," Moss said.
Sharing thoughts in writing
Jesse Morgan shared updates on Lucy's fight while she was hospitalized on his blog, New Creation Living , where he also shared the emotions he was feeling, as well as Bible verses that has brought comfort to the family. Morgan is the worship and discipleship pastor at the Green Pond Bible Chapel in Rockaway Township.
Morgan said he held Lucy close as she lay unresponsive but breathing following the freak accident before she was taken to a small hospital that later transferred her to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Once there, a portion of Lucy's skull was removed to relieve pressure on her brain, but as the procedure took place, she coded on the table before she was revived. Morgan, in his blog, recalled the moment he was told his daughter had no brain activity and had to be intubated.
"We are praying for a miracle, but our hearts hurt with incomprehensible pain. I have so many scattered thoughts and memories," he wrote.
He recalled moments prior to her death where Lucy sang her favorite hymn, "He Will Hold Me Fast," and shared how his family was processing their own grief, from the children using their creativity to color pictures for their youngest sister to his wife, who clutched her daughter's hand while endlessly laying beside her.
Morgan said Lucy suffered an immediate arterial bleed from the injury, and after significant testing and medical advice from several doctors over the course of her time in the hospital, Lucy was declared brain dead.
The family sang all three verses of "He Will Hold Me Fast" in the hospital room in a moment Morgan said was the "most beautiful, sacred things I've ever been part of."
Lucy was a lover, enjoyed to cuddle and was an amazing big sister to her youngest brother, AJ, Morgan told the New Jersey Herald. She was a "miniature" version of her mother, who Morgan said instilled and nurtured all of Lucy's beautiful characteristics.
The ride home back to New Jersey was tough, Morgan said, as the family ordered for just five of them at the drive-thru. He'd often take a peek in his rearview mirror in hopes he'd see his youngest daughter munching on chicken nuggets in the backseat.
When they returned home, flowers lining the steps and a refrigerator stocked, the family went inside the home and collapsed on the kitchen floor, crying the hardest they ever have as a family.
But it was later on when Jesse and Bethany Morgan opened Lucy's backpack and flipped through her prayer journal that they were in awe. Lucy, who scribbled words of love for God and Jesus, had drawn a photo that they say showed Lucy understood and felt the presence of God:
Morgan said while there is more to say and more tears to shed, he finds comfort from the love his family has received from those closest to them and even dozens of other strangers who have reached out. Lucy's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on June 15 at the Green Pond Bible Chapel, located on Green Pond Road in Rockaway Township. The service will also be livestreamed .
A GoFundMe, which Morgan confirmed was a legitimate fundraiser, had garnered over $90,000 as of Friday afternoon to help offset the family's medical and funeral expenses, lodging, and meals.
