The time taken to process the application for the Finland tourist visa for Indian citizens depends on several factors such as the number of entries, the volume of applications at the embassy, additional document requirements, etc. Normally, it is issued in about 15 working days. However, due to the uncertainty in this, it is suggested that you apply well in advance.

The total fees for the process depend on the number of entries, biometric charges, express processing charges, as well as any other additional service charges. It also depends on foreign exchange rates. As a result, you are expected to confirm the exact amount before applying.

Once you have submitted the application and paid the fees, your application will begin processing. If the embassy requires any additional documentation, you will be contacted. Once approved, you can collect it from the VAC or you can have it delivered to you for a price.

While waiting for your result, you may track the status by visiting the website of the VAC and entering your application number and name at the tracking portal. Alternately, you can contact your travel agency to track it for you.

  • Always carry a copy of your passport and other travel documents while you are travelling within the country to avoid unnecessary problems.
  • While you are on a tourist permit, you cannot take part in any work. Unpaid voluntary or charity work is permissible.
  • You cannot extend the permit unless in extreme circumstances.
  • You are permitted to visit any of the Schengen nations while you are on this visa.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can i extend my finland schengen tourist visa.

Similar to other Schengen permits, these are normally non-extendable. However, in certain extreme cases such as Force Majeure, and other humanitarian reasons, you may be granted an extension. In any other case, you are expected to leave the country before it expires. Staying back after this is an offence.

After expiring my Finland Tourist Visa how long can I stay?

You cannot stay back any longer once your permit has expired. Staying back beyond this period is considered as an offence. This can get you deported and even banned from re-entry. If you do wish to stay longer, you may apply for an extension if your reason for the stay is extreme unforeseeable circumstances.

What is the medical test for the Finland tourist permit?

Due to the fact that the tourist permit is issued for a duration of only 90 days, there is no mandatory requirement for medical tests. However, for longer duration resident permits, there may be health requirements. In any case, it is suggested that you get a medical test done before travelling to a foreign country.

Can I convert my Finland Tourist Visa into Work visa?

No, you may not convert one type of Finland visa to another. Schengen category permits are not convertible. As a result, if you want to work in the country, you must exit Finland, and then apply for the work permit from your home country considering that you meet the eligibility conditions.

  • Step 7 – Collect your passport

Please check with VFS Global at the time of submission for the options available to collect your passport.

In case you have to collect your passport in person, you need to take the receipt, issued by VFS Global, and your ID.

The decision will be either:

  • Accepted – you will find your visa attached to one of the pages in your passport
  • Rejected – if your application is rejected, you have the right to appeal the decision within 30 days. See the embassy’s website for more information and the costs involved

Reasons for a rejected application include:

  • Your passport is out of date – if you do not have a valid passport you must get a new one before applying for your visa
  • The embassy has good reasons to doubt that you do not intend to exit the Schengen area before the expiry of the visa that you are applying for – your visa will be issued for a limited time and you must prove that you will leave before it expires
  • You may have an entry ban to Finland – if this is the case, you will not be allowed to enter Finland or any Schengen state
  • Missing documents – you must provide everything that is required for your visa application, so check what documents are required before you submit your application

Reasons For Schengen Visa Rejections

Documents Required

Check the embassy’s website to find out what documents are required for your visa application. You should also submit photocopies along with original documents.

Documents include:

  • The visa application form completed and signed
  • One photograph (see full photograph specifications )
  • A passport – make sure your passport is valid for at least three (3) months after the end of your intended travel and that it has been issued no later than ten (10) years ago
  • Travel insurance – must be in force for the period of the validity of the visa and cover the entire Schengen area. The minimum coverage of the policy must be EUR 30,000 and the insurance must cover expenses arising from a sudden illness and accident (also the patient’s repatriation) and repatriation expenses in case of death.
  • Supporting documents to show the purpose, conditions and duration of the visit. For example, hotel reservations , flight tickets , a private or official invitation letter
  • Information concerning the itinerary, means of transport and assets and employment
  • Proof of sufficient financial means to cover the duration and purpose of the stay and the cost of living in the country. In Finland, a minimum of EUR 30 a day is required
  • Parental consent is required for minors
  • Interview – the mission may also ask you for a personal interview to find out about the purpose of your visit

  • Visit the Visa Reservation website to choose the right package
