There’s nobody like Tom Cruise . He’s charismatic, he’s eccentric, he’s controversial, and he’s everybody’s beloved. He has made some of the most quotable films of all time yet has dedicated the last decade of his career to performing some of the most dangerous stunts ever. His unpredictability is arguably his greatest weapon, and we struggle to find a more perfect word to describe his love life.

Cruise has been world-famous since the 1980s, and in that time, he’s been linked to several different women. The interesting thing to note here, especially given Cruise’s desire for privacy, is that nearly all the women he’s dated are celebrities. Apparently, the Mission: Impossible actor likes to fraternize with other actors. Cruise’s latest girlfriend is literally his Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One co-star! However, before we jump ahead too quickly, let’s step back and begin at the very start.

Melissa Gilbert

Cruise’s relationship with Melissa Gilbert predates the name Cruise! Gilbert appeared on an episode of Watch What Happens Live in 2014, and she revealed that the actor was still going by his birth name when they first met. “I was maybe 16 or 17,” she recalled. “Actually, when I dated him, he was still Tom Mapother.”

Both Cruise and Gilbert were actors in 1981, but their situations could not have been more different. The former had just made his film debut in Endless Love (1981), and the latter was one of the cast members on the hit show Little House on the Prairie (1974-83). “He was like a struggling, starving actor, and I was working,” Gilbert added. “I actually bought him his first set of dishes.” They broke up within a few months.

Patti Scialfa

There are claims that Cruise romanced Heather Locklear and Rebecca de Mornay during the early 80s, but neither relationship has been confirmed by the people involved, so we felt like they shouldn’t warrant their own entry. However, what has been confirmed is the brief romance between Cruise and Patti Scialfa in 1985.

In a 1988 profile on Scialfa, People Magazine revealed that she dated Cruise before moving on to her future husband (and fellow E Street Band member) Bruce Springsteen. “Patti was hardly a nun before she met Bruce,” a source told People. “She doesn’t go out with accountants.” Scialfa and Springsteen have been married since 1991.

Tom Cruise and Cher dating already seems like the epitome of 80s pop culture, but it gets even better when you consider where they met: the 1985 wedding of Sean Penn and Madonna. These circumstances are so bizarre and hilarious that they sound made up. We digress. Cruise and Cher dated for a year, and while things didn’t last between them, there didn’t appear to be any hard feelings. Cher even listed Cruise as one of her top five lovers on a 2013 Watch What Happens Live episode.

Cher also marked the last time Cruise dated someone more famous than he was. Cher was one of the biggest pop stars on the planet and had just earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Mask (1985). Cruise released Top Gun the following year, and things were never the same.

Mimi Rogers

Cruise married actress Mimi Rogers in 1987. They were together for three years, and BBC News theorized that Rogers was actually the person who introduced Cruise to the Church of Scientology. Either way, their romance was not built to last. Rogers cited intimacy issues, and then there were discrepancies in their respective careers.

Rogers’ career ran parallel with Cruise’s. She also made her film debut in 1981 and earned critical praise for her performances in Gung Ho (1986), Someone to Watch Over Me , and Street Smart (both 1987), but Cruise’s megastardom led to her being overlooked in the media. “No matter what the article is, it’s ‘Tom Cruise‘s wife’,” Rogers told People . She received a $4 million settlement from the divorce.

Nicole Kidman

Cruise quickly rebounded from the Rogers marriage and started dating Nicole Kidman. The two had met during the making of Days of Thunder (1990) and were already two years into their marriage by the time they made Far and Away (1992). Cruise and Kidman were one of the premiere celebrity couples of the decade, and their third collaboration, Eyes Wide Shut (1999), drew attention for its scandalous depiction of a marriage on the rocks.

Eventually, the issues bled into real life. Cruise and Kidman divorced in 2001 and released a joint statement citing “difficulties inherent in divergent careers.” They remain co-parents to their adopted children, Isabella Jane and Connor Antony.

Penelope Cruz

Cruise likes to rebound quickly, and he did it again while making Vanilla Sky (2001). He started dating co-star Penelope Cruz, who played his love interest in the film, and despite their shared fame, they maintained a relatively low profile. They dated until 2004 when their amicable split was chalked up to scheduling conflicts and a general acceptance that things had run their course.

At the time, Lee Anne DeVette, Cruise’s sister and publicist, told People : “They broke up at the end of January, and it’s amicable.” Cruz’s publicist, Robert Garlock, went as far as to state that the actors stayed in touch after splitting. “They remain good friends and still talk often,” he assured fans. “There is no other person involved.”

Katie Holmes

We wonder if you need a refresher on this one. Cruise went on The Oprah Winfrey Show to jump on the host’s couch and declare his love for Katie Holmes in one of the most cringe-inducing interviews ever. That being said, the couch jumping worked, and Cruise and Holmes were wed in 2005. They had a daughter named Suri the following year and remained steady tabloid fodder until their divorce in 2012.

Holmes told In Style that the attention of being married to Cruise was often overwhelming. “That time was intense,” she admitted. “It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public.”

Hayley Atwell

Cruise’s love life has slowed down, but things picked up with Hayley Atwell during the making of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One . The Sun reports that Cruise and Atwell started dating in 2020, when Dead Reckoning Part One was going into production, and remained a couple until their split in May 2022.

While a reason for their official split was not given, Cruise and Atwell appear to be friendly with one another during the press junkets. Atwell even attended the premiere of Cruise’s film Top Gun: Maverick (2022) to show her support. Both are currently single.

All three of Tom Cruise's marriages ended when wife was 33

Soon after news broke about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' plans to divorce , fans noted a weird coincidence. All of Cruise's three marriages broke up when his wife at the time was 33, and ended when she was 34.

Cruise's first wife was Mimi Rogers, who was 31 when she wed 24-year-old Cruise in May 1987 and 33 when they broke up in 1990.

Cruise then married Nicole Kidman, 23, in December of 1990, and then separated in 2001, when Kidman was 33.

Holmes, 28, and Cruise wed in 2006, seven months after daughter Suri was born. And when word came Friday that Holmes had filed for divorce, those with a sense of Cruise history noted that Holmes was also 33.

Divorces, in each case, came when the woman in question had turned 34 (or so we assume with Holmes, who will turn 34 in December).

The coincidence didn't go unnoticed on social media, where no weird fact is too small to escape notice.

"How weird is it that Tom Cruise's three failed marriages have all ended while the women were 34?" tweeted Karen D'Souza. Others tried to find a connection between the number 33 and Cruise's well-publicized Scientology faith.

And others had fun with a different numerical aspect of the Cruise-Holmes marriage. Wrote Adolf McGough, "Shoutout to Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise. Your marriage lasted 28.47 Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries marriages."

Tom Cruise’s Girlfriend History: From Nicole Kidman to Katie Holmes to Today

Tom Cruise has had a high-profile love life ever since launching his acting career in the '80s. Here's a complete breakdown of the 'Mission: Impossible' star's romantic history.

Tom Cruise ‘s love life has been closely followed for decades, ever since making his breakthrough in the 1983 classic  Risky Business . His romantic history consists of three famous marriages (all of which ended, coincidentally, when his wives were 33 years old) and a string of other high-profile romances. But between 2012-2020, Tom seemingly pumped the brakes on public romances.

However, there was renewed interest in the love life of one of Hollywood’s most famous bachelors after a new report surfaced in December 2020. It claimed that Tom was dating his co-star   Hayley Atwell  from Mission: Impossible 7 . In June 2022, another report came out that the pair broke up . In 2023, Tom reportedly moved on with model Elsina Khayrova . We have more information on that below — including Tom’s many other romances since the ’80s.

Melissa Gilbert

Melissa Gilbert , 59, who played Laura Ingalls on the NBC series Little House on the Prairie , claimed that she dated Tom in the early 1980’s. This was at the very beginning of his career! “Actually, when I dated him he was Tom Mapother still. It was when he first moved to Los Angeles and I think I was 16, maybe, or 17?,” Melissa said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen   in 2017.

“I did not have sex with him,” Laura added. “We made out, but, honestly, there was no sex. He was a good kisser. But, you know, he was, like, a struggling, starving actor. I actually bought him his first set of dishes.” Melissa even reminisced on her friendship/past relationship with her fellow “Brat Pack” pal, Tom, in a throwback Instagram post shared in Oct. 2019.

Heather Locklear

Heather Locklear , 61, was never Tom’s girlfriend, but she did go on one (sort of) date with him. It didn’t go well, according to her recollection. The Melrose Place  star explained in a 2013 interview on Chelsea Lately  that they had both “auditioned for something” together, back when Tom “didn’t have friends” in Hollywood in the early ’80s. So, they went dancing.

“You know in ‘Risky Business’ where he does that dance in his underwear and does the splits? We were dancing at a club and he went into that. He starting doing the splits,” Heather said. “You just kind of stand there and don’t know what to do. Do you dance around him? So, I was like, ‘I’ll just sit down and you can.'”

“And that was the only date you had?,” Chelsea Handler then asked Heather, to which the actress said, “I think so.” Tom and Heather are pictured above together in 1981.

Rebecca De Mornay

Rebecca de Mornay and Tom played lovers in Tom’s breakthrough film, Risky Business , which came out in 1983. Their on-screen chemistry turned out to be real! Although Rebecca joked that Tom was “extremely annoying” at first, she admitted, “He came to grow on me because we wound up together for two and a half years after that film” in a 2018 interview with Celebrity Page .

Tom Cruise famously made Cher ‘s “Top 5” lovers list, which she revealed on  Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen  in 2013. “I had just the greatest lovers ever. Not a long list. It’s just a good list,” the 77-year-old singer had said.

Cher explained how she and Tom connected in a separate interview. “A bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic. We didn’t go out till way later, but there definitely was a connection there,” Cher told the  Mail on Sunday   in 2018. She added, “Though I don’t get what he does, that whole Scientology thing. I can’t understand it so I just… don’t.”

Mimi Rogers

It was during this relationship that Tom infamously joined the Church of Scientology, which he is a prominent figure in to this day. When Tom met actress Mimi Rogers , 67, she had been a few years divorced from Scientologist Jim Rogers . “I met her at a dinner party about a year ago, when I was developing Top Gun. She was dating a friend, and, uh, I thought she was extremely bright,” Tom recalled in a 1986 interview with Rolling Stone .

However, Mimi had a conflicting story. “I wasn’t seeing anybody, he wasn’t seeing anybody, and they thought, ‘These people should be going out with somebody — let’s see if they want to go out with each other.’ And we said, ‘Aw, what the heck. OK’,” Mimi told the Sun Sentinel  in 1987.

Tom sounded smitten in another Rolling Stone interview, which was published mere days before his split from Mimi was announced in 1990. “I’d never been in love before. Since I’ve been with her, it’s opened me up a lot. I think it’s helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything,” he gushed, later adding, “I care about my wife more than anything in the world. She’s my best friend. I just really like being with her, you know? I love her.” The divorce was finalized in February 1990, three years after they got married.

Nicole Kidman

Tom Cruise moved on to his next marriage, which was with Moulin Rouge!  star Nicole Kidman , 55. They met on the set of their movie Days of Thunder , in which they played lovers, in 1990. By the end of the year, they were husband and wife. Tom and Nicole adopted two children amid their 11-year marriage : Isabella in 1992, and Connor in 1994.

During the marriage, Tom and Nicole also filmed another movie together, Eyes Wide Shut , in 1999. Nicole even looked back at their time filming together in a rare interview in Oct. 2020, telling the  New York Times , “We were happily married through that. We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at three in the morning. I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to.”

Nicole famously never joined Tom’s Church of Scientology, which even their children went on to be active members in. Tom and Nicole’s split was announced in Feb. 2001, and Tom filed for divorce two days later. To this day, the exes have minimal interactions with one another. “Tom has had little to no contact with Nicole in the 18 years since being married and that is fine by him,” a source close to Tom EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife . “He really does not miss her much at all.”

Penélope Cruz

Tom took a break from the married life and started dating Penélope Cruz , 49, whom he met on the set of the movie Vanilla Sky  in 2000. They enjoyed a three-year relationship, which the former couple’s reps confirmed ended in 2004. “They remain good friends and still talk often. There is no other person involved,” Penelope’s spokesperson told PEOPLE at the time.

Katie Holmes

Enter Katie Holmes , who to date remains one of Tom’s most famous exes. Ironically, Katie , 44, she once told Seventeen Magazine   in 2004 that she “used to think that [she] was going to marry Tom Cruise,” which didn’t turn out to just be wishful thinking. The two came together the very next year.

Katie and Tom’s first public appearance as lovers happened in April of 2005. Tom was with the Dawson’s Creek star in Rome, where he was visiting to collect his David di Donatello Award for lifetime achievement. The very next month, Tom was jumping on Oprah Winfrey ‘s couch and proclaiming that he’s “in love” (to which Oprah said, “The boy is gone”).

The relationship quickly advanced. When Katie stepped onto the  Batman Begins  premiere in June of 2005, the actress revealed that she’s converting to Scientology (Tom’s religion) and her engagement to Tom was announced that very same month. By October, the couple was expecting, and in April of 2006 they welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Suri .

Katie and Tom tied the knot in Italy in Nov. 2006, and all seemed happy until June of 2012, when Katie filed for divorce. A settlement for custody of Suri was decided on a month later. A year afterwards, Tom admitted that he “didn’t expect” that divorce in an interview with German television network ProSieben.

Katie reflected on the time after the divorce in an April 2020 interview with   InStyle . “That time was intense. It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public. So many people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out, and that’s what I love about the city,” she said.

Hayley Atwell

Tom reportedly started dating Hayley Atwell  — whom you may have seen playing Peggy Carter in the Captain America  movies — in 2020, according to a report from The Sun that surfaced in Dec. of that year. Hayley and Tom filmed Mission 7: Impossible  together amid the pandemic.

“Tom and Hayley hit it off from day one,” a source told The Sun , who added, “Lockdown, and all the difficulties that came with it, brought them even closer and they’ve become fairly inseparable.” Tom and Hayley did not confirm this report, but he hasn’t confirmed any romances since his marriage to Katie, and on June 12, 2022, it was reported he and Hayley had split . It was the second reported split since back in Sept. 2021, they reportedly also called it quits but reconciled a short time later.

“Tom and Hayley’s relationship was genuine,” a source told The Sun . “In spite of some rumours to the contrary, it was never just for the cameras. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked out for them. They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year.”

In mid-2023, multiple outlets reported that Tom had quietly started dating the model and socialite.

The actor remembers how he met and began dating Mimi Rogers quite differently. In a 1986 interview , he admitted that his relationship with Mimi began in 1985 after they met at a dinner party. Adding that he was working on Top Gun at that point, Tom divulged that Mimi was dating a friend and hinted that he went ahead to woo her despite that because he found her to be “extremely bright”.

They Had a Private Wedding In 1987 But The Marriage Packed Up In 1989

There is no doubt that Mimi Rogers had a huge influence on Tom. Among other things, she was the one that introduced him to Scientology. The actress was raised in the religion as her father was a member of the church before she was born. In 1987, precisely on the 9th of May, Tom and Mimi executed “The Project”.

It was a small, secret wedding that was held in New York. Witnessed by only a handful of family members and friends, it was said that even Tom’s publicist didn’t know about the wedding. As a married couple, Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers could only endure a few years together.

They announced in January 1990 that they would be abandoning the marriage, leaving the public to wonder what went wrong with them. In a joint statement, the former couple pointed out that there were positive aspects to their union, but that some issues they were unable to resolve even after working on them made them decide to part ways.

With that, people assumed their separation was a mutual decision and it was. From what has circulated, Tom Cruise filed for divorce on the 9th of December 1989. The divorce was finalized in 1990 and in a 1993 interview with Playboy, Mimi reinforced the sentiment that her separation from Tom was an amicable decision.

She joked that Tom was bent on becoming a monk to “maintain the purity of his instrument” whereas hers’ “needed tuning”. She later retracted the statement and would not comment further.

The same year their marriage ended, both Tom and Mimi moved on with other partners. For Mimi Rogers, it was Christopher Ciaffa, a producer to whom she has been married since 2003. The same can’t be said about Cruise as the end of his marriage to Mimi marked the beginning of another union with Nicole Kidman which eventually failed like his first.

Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers's Relationship Timeline: A Look Back

Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers met in 1985 before tying the knot in 1987.

ICYMI — or are just having a hard time remembering — Oscar-nominated actor Tom Cruise and actress Mimi Rogers dated in Cruise's  post-Cher  and pre- Nicole Kidman  days. The pair met in 1985 — although how, exactly, is up for debate — and married in 1987, marking a first for Cruise and the second marriage for Rogers. The pair later finalized their divorce in 1990.

During the course of their relationship, the  Risky Business  star and  The Rapture  starlet spoke highly of each other when giving interviews and confidently stepped out in public as each other's arm candy (not everyone can pull off T-shirts tucked into Bermuda shorts with ease). However, as with any couple, Cruise and Rogers had their ups and downs. Throw in the pressures of Hollywood, and it would eventually prove all too much for the actors.

Here's a look back at Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers's relationship.

1985: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers first meet

In 1986, Cruise, then 23,  told  Rolling Stone  he'd met Rogers, then 29, "at a dinner party about a year ago" when he was developing the original  Top Gun .  However, the courtship wasn't  quite  as simple as a young Cruise introducing himself and asking to date Rogers. The actor said Rogers "was dating a friend" at the time. 

"I thought she was extremely bright," Cruise recalled to the publication.

Rogers remembered things differently,  telling  Sun Sentinel   that she and Cruise had been introduced by mutual friends. 

"I wasn't seeing anybody, he wasn't seeing anybody, and they thought, 'These people should be going out with somebody — let's see if they want to go out with each other,'" Rogers told the newspaper. "And we said, 'Aw, what the heck. OK.'"

May 9, 1987: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers get married

The idea of marriage was introduced quickly, but given the magnitude of Cruise's stardom following the success of the blockbuster Top Gun  , the couple referred to their wedding by an ominous title: "The Project." Rogers, a second-generation Scientologist herself, is believed to have been one of Cruise's first links to the polarizing belief system.

In May 1987, Cruise and Rogers executed their, uh, project and tied the knot,  according to  People .  The Mighty Ducks  actor Emilio Estevez was Cruise's best man at the "very small, intimate and beautiful" event. Interestingly, nearly one year before Cruise and Rogers wed, he told  Rolling Stone,  "I don't know if I could get married."

Rogers spoke fondly of Cruise in their years together. "There's a lot of contentment and security (in marriage)," she  told  Chicago Tribune  in 1988. "I highly recommend it.''

December 9, 1989: Tom Cruise files for divorce from Mimi Rogers

According to Andrew Morton's  Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography , the actor filed for divorce on Dec. 9, 1989. Production on  Days of Thunder  (starring Cruise and his future wife, Kidman) began just two days later. In 1995, Cruise  described to  Vanity Fair  his reaction to meeting Kidman as "instant lust." 

Morton cited a statement made by Cruise and Rogers to address the announcement of their split in January 1990: "While there have been positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time." 

Ironically, just days before news of Cruise and Rogers's split broke, the  Rain Man  star insisted that (despite tabloid conjecture) he "couldn't imagine being without" his then-wife. "Since I've been with her, it's opened me up a lot," he  revealed to  Rolling Stone  in 1990. "I think it's helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything. That's the best thing about life. Otherwise, you go through it pretty sad and lonely and angry." At the risk of laying it on too thick, Cruise added, "I care about my wife more than anything in the world. She's my best friend. I just really like being with her, you know? I love her."

February 1990: Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers finalize divorce

After finalizing his divorce from Rogers in February 1990, Cruise and Kidman reportedly wed in December. The actor  told Barbara Walters  in 1992 that he and his ex hadn't spoken "in a couple of years," though he did "wish her well." 

In 1993, the  Bosch  star spoke to  Playboy ,  per E! Online , and made some interesting comments about her ex. "Here's the real story," she reportedly told the publication. "Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk. At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument." She also mentioned that her own instrument "needed tuning." 

Rogers was candid about the trouble of being married to one of the most famous men in the world. 

"You cease to be an individual," she  told  People  in 1995. "No matter what the article is, it's 'Tom Cruise's wife ...'" Rogers added that she was waiting for the moment when she didn't "have to talk about that [blankety-blank] name anymore."

Though, in 2001, she  explained to  The Telegraph  that "stardom wasn't really a problem" in their marriage. "What did annoy me was the age thing," she added. "Every six months, [the press] seemed to add another year to my age. If we were still married, the press would have me in my 60s by now."

Back in 2012, the former Hollywood power couple  Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced to the world they were getting a divorce after six years of marriage. However, the "Mission Impossible" actor previously revealed that he "didn't expect" his wife to file for divorce. Although neither party has confirmed why the highly publicized breakup actually took place, there are plenty of rumors surrounding Holmes' decision to get out of the marriage. One of the primary rumors was reported by HuffPost in 2013, when Cruise discussed Holmes' aversion to raising their daughter, Suri, in the Scientology religion.

While the "Top Gun" actor was being questioned during a deposition for a defamation case involving Bauer Media, a lawyer asked whether the "Dawson's Creek" alum had requested a divorce "in part to protect Suri from Scientology," (per HuffPost). The outlet went on to say that Cruise initially reacted with frustration, indicating, "there is no need to protect my daughter from my religion." However, as the attorney continued to press Cruise on the matter, the movie star admitted that Holmes' desire to keep Suri from Scientology, " ... was one of the assertions, yes."

Despite her newfound freedom as a single woman, Radar Online reported in 2016 that Holmes had made a "secret divorce deal" with Cruise that allegedly forbid her from publicly commenting on their separation or dating someone else for five years after their breakup. Though almost a decade has passed since their divorce, the "Batman Begins" actress has still remained quiet about the situation.

The most commonly accepted cause surrounding the demise of the couple's relationship is that Katie Holmes wanted to remove herself and their daughter Suri from any involvement with the Church of Scientology. Per InStyle , Tom Cruise appeared to back up this theory by admitting that one of the reasons his ex-wife filed for divorce came down to the controversial religion itself during his defamation case against Bauer media.

During the 2013 deposition, Cruise also revealed that his daughter Suri, who was just seven years old at the time, was no longer a practicing member of the Church of Scientology (via HuffPost ). This particular revelation came as a surprise to many, primarily because those who leave the Church are deemed a "Suppressive Person" and are eventually cut off from other practicing members — which includes immediate members of their own family. According to the Mirror , Cruise and Holmes' divorce settlement afforded Holmes "sole custody" of Suri, and reportedly included "'ironclad' rulings that Suri would not be exposed to anything Scientology related."

Meanwhile, things have been strangely silent on the Cruise dating front since 2012, when he says Holmes “blindsided” him and asked for divorce.

The photos of Holmes and Wooten captured the couple kissing, and at one point showed them meeting up with Holmes’ mother, Kathy Holmes, during their outing, which included a subway ride, a visit to the Guggenheim Museum and a stroll through Central Park, People said.

Wooten, a bass guitarist who played for Broadway shows and Jennifer Lopez, is the third man linked to the former “Dawson’s Creek” star, since she stunned the world in 2012 by filing for divorce from the charismatic but famously intense Cruise, the father of her daughter Suri, now 16.

Following their divorce, Holmes, 43, was next involved in a reportedly tumultuous on-off relationship for with actor Jamie Foxx, which ended in 2019, and she enjoyed a pandemic romance with New York City chef Emilio Vitolo.

As for Cruise, there were reports last year that the 59-year-old star was dating his “Mission: Impossible 7” co-star Hayley Atwell, 39, but that they split in September .

The reports, which remained in the realm of the tabloids and relied on “insider” sources, also seemed a bit thin. It was as if Cruise’s PR team was pushing the gossip as way to keep his name in the entertainment press as the seventh and eighth installments of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, and his highly anticipated “Top Gun 2,” kept facing delays being released due to COVID-19 . “Top Gun 2” is finally due to be released in theaters May 27.

The decade-long absence of more mainstream news about Cruise’s love life is remarkable considering that his dating exploits were closely followed for decades, beginning with his rise to mega-stardom in the early 1980s.

Cruise played out many of his romances in the public spotlight, as he appeared to be happily linked to a number of famous and glamorous actresses: Melissa Gilbert, Heather Locklear, Rebecca DeMornay, Cher and Penelope Cruz. He married Mimi Rodgers and later, Nicole Kidman. Twenty years after their divorce, Kidman still makes headlines anytime she delicately talks about their 11-year marriage.

Cruise was very public as he began to romance the much-younger, then-26-year-old Holmes in 2005. Excessively public, his producing partners and publicists might say.  Cruise, then 42, famously jumped on Oprah Winfrey‘s couch and proclaimed he was “in love,” to which Oprah said, “The boy is gone.” Holmes and Cruise became parents to Suri in April 2006, and they married in a lavish, star-studded wedding in an Italian castle in November 2006.

After Holmes filed for divorce, Cruise became the target of years of negative reports about his controlling behavior and allegations that his romantic choices were guided by his allegiance to the Church of Scientology.

A detailed 2012 Vanity Fair report described how Cruise divorced Kidman and broke up with Cruz in 2004 because they didn’t sufficiently embrace the Scientology’s teachings. Vanity Fair also reported that the church staged “an elaborate auditioning process” to find Cruise’s next girlfriend and potential wife. He had a brief romance with actress and fellow Scientologist, Nazanin Boniadi, during which he “overwhelmed her with the intensity of his affection,” Vanity Fair said.

Scientology and its leader David Miscavige were said to be like “a third person” in Cruise’s marriage to Holmes, Vanity Fair said. Holmes, who also didn’t join Scientology, reportedly became concerned about the influence the organization might have over how Suri.  Because of a prenuptial agreement negotiated by Holmes’ attorney father, she was able to quickly resolve her divorce from Cruise and secure custody of Suri, Vanity Fair added.

With regard to Suri, Cruise also has been the subject of reports t hat he has largely absented himself from her life because she’s not a Scientologist.

Given such scrutiny, it’s probably not surprising that Cruise has become shy of getting seriously involved with someone else, or at least being so public when he’s dating someone.

The usually upbeat actor sounded particularly hurt by Holmes’ rejection, opening up a little to a German talk show in 2013 . “I did not expect that,” Cruise said. “To be 50 and to have experiences and to think you have a grip on everything, and then it hits you — this is it, what life can do to you. Life is a tragicomedy. You need to have a sense of humor.”

Tom Cruise is renowned for being one of the most welcoming and warm movie stars out there. As per the  BBC , he regularly turns up hours early for premieres so he can spend time with his adoring public. Shaking hands, chatting, signing autographs, and posing for selfies. Few other A-listers are as open and kind as Cruise is when it comes to meeting and greeting their fans.

However, when he's "off duty," Cruise is notoriously guarded. He values his privacy and keeps a tight circle comprised of trusted friends and immediate family. Cruise made an uncharacteristic privacy exception during his last marriage — which was a PDA-packed, TMI-sharing tabloid cringe-fest. But since that ended in a blindsiding divorce in 2012 , his walls are firmly back up.

These days, Cruise devotes his time to his kids, career, and the Church of Scientology. According to People , Cruise bid farewell to La La Land in 2016, selling his Hollywood homes and purchasing an apartment in Clearwater, Florida. The swanky penthouse pad is just around the corner from Scientology's international HQ. The move means Cruise can now devote more time to his bromance with the church's controversial leader, David Miscavige. However, it doesn't mean Cruise has lost that loving feeling. He's just keeping his romantic life on the down-low, as he always had before leaping around like a lunatic on Oprah Winfrey's sofa. The high school sweetheart

Before Tom Cruise, the movie star, there was Tom Mapother, the high school senior. It would be another four years before the 18-year-old stripped down to tighty-whities and slid his way into superstardom. However, the crooked grin and easy charm were already evident. Diane Cox noticed both when she first met Cruise at their 1979 high school prom. "I came out of the bathroom and with a bottle of booze and a huge grin, he was waiting there," Cox told The Washington Post . "He's not a tall guy, but he had this big a**, and he was super charming," she continued.

It was the start of an intense two-year-long relationship, with the couple making out whenever, wherever, and as often as possible. "Whenever we could, we'd have sex." Cox shared. "We would have used my dad's car if my parents weren't around. We once used his parents' garage."

As Cruise started auditioning for roles, they began spending more and more time apart. However, absence didn't make the heart grow fonder, and before long, the green-eyed monster reared its head. Tom Mapother kept his love life secretive even before he became the world-famous film star, Tom Cruise. Despite dumping his high school sweetheart for seeing somebody behind his back, it appears Cruise was also sowing his wild oats during their relationship. While living in Los Angeles as a struggling actor, Cruise regularly enjoyed a Hollywood hook-up, courtesy of Melissa Gilbert. The "Little House on the Prairie" star spilled the Tom Cruise tea during an appearance on Bravo's " Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen ."

Gilbert laughed and then dished when asked if there was "any truth at all" to the rumor that she once dated Cruise. "That is true," she admitted. "Actually, when I dated him, he was Tom Mapother still. It was when he first moved to Los Angeles, and I think I was 16." If Gilbert was 16 at the time, then it would have been 1980, and Cruise would have been one year into his two-year-long relationship with Diane Cox.

Cohen pushed Gilbert for more details, pointing out that Cher had once claimed Cruise was "one of the best lovers she'd ever had." "I did not have sex with him," Gilbert insisted. "We made out, but, honestly, there was no sex." Cohen continued to push through, asking about Cruise's kissing skills. "He was a good kisser," Gilbert conceded. "But you know, he was just like a struggling, starving actor, and I was working. I actually bought him his first set of dishes."

The Risky Business dance disaster

Back in 1983, Tom Cruise may have had the moves like Jagger onscreen, but he failed to make the cut when it came to busting-a-move off-camera. In fact, Cruise was unable to seal a dating deal thanks to his disastrous dance floor performance. Heather Locklear gave the lowdown on her cringe-worthy night out with Tom Cruise — and his dirty dancing debacle — during a 2013 " Chelsea Lately " interview.

After insisting "it wasn't really a date," Locklear spilled on the evening she spent with Cruise. She said that after they'd finished a joint audition, they ended up hitting the town together because the actor didn't really know anybody in Los Angeles. "So we went out, and we went dancing," Locklear explained. However, she claimed that it all started to go rapidly downhill after Cruise decided to re-enact his infamous "Risky Business" semi-naked dance scene.

"You know, er, Risky Business where he does that dance in his underwear and does the splits? We were dancing in a club, and he went into that," Locklear said. "You just kind of stand there, and you don't know what to do. Do you dance around him? Do you? So, I was like, I'll just sit down," she later shared. So was her night out with Cruise really just a one date (not really a date) wonder, Handler asked. "I think so," Locklear replied hesitantly.

The call girl co-star coupling

The release of the iconic teen flick "Risky Business" in 1983 propelled Tom Cruise to fame. It wasn't just his movie career that was started, though. The film also sparked a two-year-plus passionate relationship with Cruise's costar, Rebecca De Mornay.

De Mornay, 23, played a call girl who honed 19-year-old Cruise's bedroom skills — then helped turn his parents' house into a brothel while they were away on vacay. Their onscreen chemistry was electric, but they didn't start dating until after filming wrapped — thanks to De Mornay's boyfriend, Harry Dean Stanton, being on set. But Cruise didn't waste any time moping around. The actor's bedroom was like an Atlantic City fairground, with a stream of teenage girls outside, waiting their turn. "I found three or four young girls — late teens, I suspect — lined up in the hall outside of Tom's room," Curtis Armstrong, who worked on the movie , wrote in his book, " Revenge of the Nerd ." "Tom's door opened, and another girl came out, adjusting her hair and taking off down the hall, while the first girl in line slipped into Tom's room," he later claimed.

Cruise still had his eye on the prize, though, and he finally got De Mornay — quite an achievement given her initial impression of him. "I thought he was very annoying when we first started," she told Celebrity Page . "He was extremely annoying. But he came to grow on me because we wound up together for two-and-a-half years."

The older woman

As far as unexpected Hollywood couplings go, you can file  Tom Cruise and Cher  under B for bizarre. The  Daily Mail reports that the unlikely lovers met at Sean Penn and Madonna's wedding in 1985. At the time, 22-year-old Cruise was just two years into his career, but 38-year-old Cher was already a hugely successful superstar. According to The Washington Post , things took a romantic turn after seeing each other a second time, at a White House function two months later.

Cher told the Daily Mail there was an immediate spark, but they "didn't go out till way later." However, once they started dating, things turned pretty serious, pretty quick. "Is it true [you dated] Tom Cruise? ... How much of a date was that?" Oprah Winfrey asked during the " Oprah, Cher, Tina " 2008 TV special. "Oh, that was a long date. I lived in his apartment. So that was long," Cher said. "You know what? He was so wonderful, and I was so crazy about him, and he was so different. He was a shy boy; he didn't have any money."

She dished more during a "Truth or Cher" game on " Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen " in 2013. After being asked, "Who was your all-time best lover?" Cher played coy, explaining that she'd been lucky enough to have "had just the greatest lovers ever." Cohen pushed further. "Where did Tom Cruise rank on that list?" He asked. "He was in the top five," Cher admitted.

The marriage of enlightenment

Mimi Rogers drastically changed Tom Cruise's life course forever after introducing him to Scientology. Cruise told Rolling Stone in June 1986 that he'd met Rogers at a dinner party a year previously. "She was dating a friend, and, uh, I thought she was extremely bright," he admitted. In May 1987, the two married in a super-secret ceremony. People  reported that "the wedding was very small, intimate and beautiful" and that Emilio Estevez acted as best man.

It wasn't Mimi's first time down the aisle. According to The Telegraph , she'd previously married Jim Rogers, a Scientology counselor. The union was short-lived, though, and they divorced when she moved to Hollywood. However, Mimi didn't break her strong ties with Scientology . As per The Hollywood Reporter , Mimi was raised in the church. Her father was one of sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard's "original disciples."

Cruise admitted that Mimi introduced him to the controversial religion but insisted that he joined on his own accord. Tom Cruise went on to develop an intense, long-term relationship with Scientology . But his marriage didn't fare as well — the couple split in January 1990. Mimi blamed the break-up on Cruise's religious zeal and sexual reluctance. "Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk," she told Playboy (via E! ). "At least for that period of time, it looked as though marriage wouldn't fit into his overall spiritual need. And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument."

The Days of Thunder are torn asunder

When "Days of Thunder" started filming in 1989, Tom Cruise instantly sparked with Nicole Kidman, despite being married to his first wife, Mimi Rogers. Kidman was equally dazzled by her handsome leading man. "He basically swept me off my feet. I fell madly, passionately in love," she told Vanity Fair .

In December 1990, Kidman became the second Mrs. Cruise. For a while, Cruise and Kidman were Hollywood's golden couple. They adopted a couple of kids and starred in two more movies together, "Far and Away" and "Eyes Wide Shut." However, by February 2001, it was all over. Cruise filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage, citing "irreconcilable differences," per Entertainment Weekly .

Neither has ever publicly spoken about the reason for their split, but the finger's been pointed at Scientology. Kidman was raised Catholic, and she ultimately refused to join Cruise's beloved church. "I was introduced to it by him, and I explored it," she told Vanity Fair. "But I'm not a Scientologist." According to The Daily Beast , David Miscavige was concerned Kidman was enticing Cruise away from the fold. So, the Scientology leader ordered that she be "gotten rid of," a former church executive alleged. "She became, in the eyes of Scientologists, a 'Suppressive Person,'" Mike Rinder claimed. "And a Suppressive Person in Scientology is a person who's at the best to be utterly and completely disconnected from, and the worst, if you're a Suppressive Person like me ... to be utterly destroyed. Tom had to disconnect from her."

When The Cruise met Cruz

Proving that the best way to get over somebody is to get under somebody else, Tom Cruise wasted no time moving on from his second failed attempt at marital bliss. Cruise was still with Nicole Kidman when he met Penélope Cruz on the "Vanilla Sky" set. But, they insist they didn't become involved until after his divorce in 2001. "I've never fallen in love with someone I'm working with," Cruz claimed (via The Telegraph ). "It's always been afterwards. If something becomes friendship, then maybe months later it becomes something else."

The ink on his divorce papers was barely dry when Cruise and Cruz made their couple's debut at the "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" premiere. Their combined star power dazzled the red carpet, and Cruz loved that her new boo was basking in the spotlight with her. "He came and shared it with me," Cruz told " Good Morning America ." "It was special for me that he wanted to share it with me that way." They dated for three years before splitting in January 2004. "The relationship just ran its course and they decided not to be girlfriend and boyfriend anymore," a source told People .

However, once again, speculation was rife that Scientology was behind the break-up. According to Vanity Fair , Cruz had managed to land on David Miscavige's hit list. He allegedly branded her a "dilettante" for refusing to ditch Buddhism and embrace Scientology.

The relationship audition winner

Tom Cruise's love life had hit a low in 2004, with two divorces and several failed relationships under his belt. So, Scientology reportedly stepped in to play cupid and land him the perfect partner. According to Vanity Fair , Shelly Miscavige was tasked with finding Cruise, "a drop-dead-beautiful true believer to share his life."

Marc Headley, a former Scientology film studio exec, alleges an "audition process" was created. He claims he watched multiple "three-to-four-minute audition videotapes" of young female Scientologists but that none were judged to be good enough. They eventually struck gold in October, though, when Nazanin Boniadi, a 25-year-old second-generation church member, was deemed to be the perfect match.

Boniadi reportedly had no clue she was being groomed to be Cruise's next squeeze. She was allegedly told she'd "been selected for a very hush-hush mission" that would "make the world a better place." According to Vanity Fair, after a month of "procedures," Boniadi dumped her boyfriend and signed a "confidentiality agreement." She was then allegedly flown to New York where she'd finally learn her fate. Cruise immediately launched an intense wooing offensive that resulted in Boniadi falling "head over heels in love." She reportedly moved into his house, even sleeping with him, before being unceremoniously dumped in January 2005 for no apparent reason. Boniadi was then allegedly dispatched to Scientology's Mecca for "counseling" to help her understand why she just wasn't good enough to make the Cruise cut.

The one that got away

Fresh off his Scientology matchmaking experiment gone wrong, Tom Cruise decided to reclaim his romantic destiny. It wasn't long before a stunning 33-year-old actor caught his eye. Sofía Vergara was still waiting for her big break in Hollywood when she received a call from Will Smith, inviting her to a pre-Oscars party. When she arrived, Cruise was waiting, and he quickly made his move.

As per Andrew Morton's book, "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography" (via  New York Post ), Cruise immediately went on the charm offensive. He bombarded Vergara with "phone calls, flowers, and chocolates," and she was suitably impressed. However, things took a downward turn after Cruise suggested a trip to the Scientology Center. The couple was met by David Miscavige and a barrage of questions. According to Morton, Vergara was being vetted to see if she was a suitable Mrs. Cruise III.

However, a friend of Vergara's said that there was no way the devout Catholic would turn her back on her faith. "She was fundamentally terrified of Scientology," the source told Morton. "She sincerely believed that she would be struck down by God and burn in hell if she joined." And, so, another one bit the dust. Vergara has kept schtum about her brush with Cruise. The Daily Beast pointed out that not much is known about her and Cruise. "Let's keep it that way!" Vergara said. "I don't want to talk about that!"

The Disney romance turned Grimm's fairytale

Growing up in Ohio, Katie Holmes' wall was littered with Tom Cruise posters. In 2004, Holmes admitted to Seventeen magazine (via The Hollywood Reporter ) that she'd dreamed about marrying her celeb crush one day. Oh, girl! Be careful what you wish for.

Holmes' dream started becoming a reality in 2005. She met with Cruise under the guise of auditioning for "Mission: Impossible 3," but that was just a ruse. The starstruck Holmes was easy pickings for Cruise, who turned on the charm and swept her off her feet. It seemed like a fairytale romance. Cruise and Holmes jetted worldwide — living a life of luxury, wining and dining in all the fanciest restaurants, and hobnobbing with the elite. Holmes even took Cruise's infamous Oprah Winfrey cray-cray "couch-jumping"  cringe-fest in her stride.

She converted to Scientology, and after just eight weeks of dating, they were engaged. "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," Cruise announced, per  People . Four months later, the newly dubbed "TomKat" were expecting a baby. Holmes gave birth in April 2006 (via  Today ). By November, they were married. However, in 2012, it quickly went from a Disney dream to a Grimm's fairytale after Holmes shocked the world — and her husband — by filing for divorce. "I don't have any fear now, I don't have a lot of rules for myself, and I don't take myself that seriously," she told People about life post-TomKat.

The 'perfect' Scientology princess

After being blindsided by his third divorce, Tom Cruise must have been feeling down. But, when it came to looking for love, the actor definitely wasn't out. To help in his eternal quest to find the "one," Cruise turned to Scientology again. And, the church seemingly came up trumps with Yolanda Pecoraro.

According to The National Enquirer (via Radar ), the 27-year-old Latinx aspiring actor was a devout, second-generation Scientologist who'd been studying the religion since she was 13. "[Yolanda is a] Scientology princess, perfect for Tom," a source said. They claimed that Cruise had even been splashing out some serious cash for Pecoraro to "attend expensive Scientology courses at the Celebrity Centre in Hollywood." They pointed out there was one hindrance to Cruise finally achieving true love though — Pecoraro's live-in boyfriend. But, where there's a will, there's a way, and David Miscavige has a reputation for overcoming inconvenient hurdles.

Cruise and Pecoraro already had history. In his tell-all, " Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography ," Andrew Morton claims Cruise and Pecoraro first met back in 2004 in Spain. Morton alleges the couple actually dated briefly. There's even a photo of them posing together at a soccer match with David and Victoria Beckham. Sadly, however, as history would appear to show, it wasn't meant to be — and Cruise was, once again, back on the market.

The successful ending to Tom Cruise's mission impossible?

A lesser man might have thrown in the towel by now if they had a relationship batting average as low as Tom Cruise. However, this hopeless romantic's lust for love hasn't dampened one bit. Cruise was back in the dating saddle yet again in the summer of 2021 — cozying up to "Mission: Impossible 7" co-star, Hayley Atwell.

As per Page Six , Cruise and Atwell were snapped together as they headed to the women's singles final at Wimbledon on July 10. The actors had been working on the latest installment of the action franchise since shooting began in September 2020. The movie's multiple international filming locations combined with a world pandemic had made for a stressful two years. So, it's no surprise tempers started boiling over. The Sun obtained audio of Cruise unleashing an F-bomb-filled rant about lax adherence to onset social distancing rules.

However, it appeared that when it came to his leading lady, Tom Cruise was, true to form, all smiles and charm. A source told The Sun that the couple immediately bonded and just grew stronger after working together during COVID-19. "Lockdown, and all the difficulties that came with it, brought them even closer, and they've become fairly inseparable," the source said. "They've been meeting up after hours, and she's been to his London pad. They get on brilliantly, and both seem very happy." Hopefully, for Cruise's sake, David Miscavige is just as ecstatic.

Who Is Tom Cruise?

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, better known as Tom Cruise, was born on July 3, 1962, in Syracuse, New York, to Mary and Thomas Mapother. Cruise's mother was an amateur actress and schoolteacher, and his father was an electrical engineer. His family moved around a great deal when Cruise was a child to accommodate his father's career.

Cruise's parents divorced when he was 11, and the children moved with their mother to Louisville, Kentucky, and then to Glen Ridge, New Jersey, after she remarried. Like his mother and three sisters, Cruise suffered from dyslexia, which made academic success difficult for him. Tom Cruise's Marriages (And Divorces) All Follow The Same Strange Pattern That May Tie Back To Scientology

Fans have noticed a rather strange pattern that has followed Tom Cruise through all three of his marriages, and those eventual divorces.

Many have noticed that all three of his ex-wives , Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes were all the same exact age, 33, when their marriages to Cruise ended, and were all "11 years younger than the last."

The "33-11 conspiracy" has even been linked to Cruise's religion, Scientology.

Here are the details surrounding Tom Cruises' strange pattern with marriages & divorces.

Cruise's first marriage was to actress Mimi Rogers in 1987, when she was 31 and he was 24. 

It was reportedly Rogers who introduced Cruise to Scientology, but their marriage didn't last, around three years to be exact.

The couple split in 1990 when Rogers was 33.

At the time of their split, the couple released a joint statement : "While there have been very positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time.”

Following his divorce from Rogers, Cruise went on to play the lead role in the 1989 film "Days of Thunder" alongside his second wife, actress Nicole Kidman .

Kidman was 23 years old when she married Cruise in December 1990.

The couple adopted two children together, a daughter named Isabella in 1992 and a son named Connor in 1995. 

Kidman and Cruise were married for 11 years and even starred in Stanley Kubrick's last film before his death, "Eyes Wide Shut," in 1999.

In February 2001, however, just two months after renewing their vows on their 10th wedding anniversary, Cruise filed for divorce citing "irreconcilable differences."

His last marriage was to then-28-year-old Katie Holmes in 2006, five years after divorcing Kidman. 

The two welcomed their daughter, Suri Cruise, in April 2006 before marrying in November 2006.

In June 2012, Holmes filed for divorce amid rumors that her rejection of  Scientology played a significant role in their divorce.

All three of Tom's divorces follow a bizarre pattern — Rogers, Kidman, and Holmes were all 33 years old when they split with Cruise.

Rogers and Tom parted ways in February 1990 — when she was 34 years old — but the pair announced their split on January 16th, 1990, at which point she was still 33.

Kidman was 34 when she and Tom finalized their divorce in August 2001, however, the actor filed for divorce in February of that year, when the actress was 33 years old.

Holmes, who was the only one of Tom’s ex-wives who filed for divorce from the actor, did so in June 2012, six months before her 34th birthday.

According to NY Daily News , 33 is a significant number in Scientology.

The original membership organization for the religious group, the Hubbard Association of Scientologists, was founded in Phoenix, Arizona, which lies on the 33rd parallel.

The number is also known as the "Master Teacher," which represents altruism and raising mankind's positive energy in numerology. 

In a Reddit forum , fans discussed the similarities, with one user writing: "This is some Scientology number magic going on here."

Other users have pointed out that actor Leonardo DiCaprio essentially does the same thing , only his relationships end when the woman turns 25, and have made the connection that maybe Cruise doesn't want to be with a woman under the age of 33.

From Cher to Katie Holmes, All the People Tom Cruise Has Romanced Over the Years

Whether you love him for his work in notable blockbusters like "Top Gun" and "Mission Impossible" or are intrigued by his captivating persona, there is no arguing that Tom Cruise is a Hollywood icon. Over the years, the actor has equally become known for his accomplishments on film as he has for his controversial viewpoints and various romances. Since starting his acting career, Cruise has been linked to several leading ladies, including Penélope Cruz and Nazanin Boniadi.

Cruise's most notable romances are with the women he had married, however. The "A Few Good Men" actor has been married three times to actors Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes. Cruise's on-screen chemistry with his "Risky Business" costar was not just for the cameras. Though De Mornay was in a relationship with actor Harry Dean Stanton, she and Cruise started an intense affair during the production of the 1983 film. The pair's "Risky Business" costar, Curtis Armstrong, revealed in his memoir, "Revenge of the Nerd," that the dynamic on set was awkward at points.

"I suspect that most of Harry Dean's great qualities were lost on Tom, who, I think, was beginning to regard him as a guest overstaying his welcome. It must have been a little galling to have your heart set on f*cking your costar, and just when you think you're starting to make headway, her significant other comes popping up out of a trap like a lanky, amiable Banquo's ghost," Armstrong said (via The Hollywood Reporter ).

De Mornay and Cruise continued to have a relationship until around 1985. In a 2018 interview with Celebrity Page , De Mornay opened up about her romance with the "Top Gun" star, telling the outlet, "I will say that I thought he was very annoying when we first started [filming] . . . He came to grow on me because we wound up together for two and a half years after that film."

Though short-lived, one of Cruise's most notable romances was with none other than music icon Cher. The two connected for the first time at the 1985 wedding of Madonna and Sean Penn, though they got to know one another better at a White House event, per People . "Then a bunch of people who were dyslexic were invited to the White House, and Tom and I are both dyslexic . . . there was definitely a connection," she explained to the outlet.

Though it is unknown exactly how long Cruise and Cher's rendezvous lasted, the "Believe" singer did tell Andy Cohen on " Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen " in 2013 that their romance "was pretty hot and heavy for a little minute," and that Cruise was easily in her top five list of lovers.

Mimi Rogers

Cruise met his first wife in 1986. The two have differing accounts of how they initially connected, with Rogers claiming that a mutual friend set them up, and Cruise alleging that Rogers was dating someone else when they met, per Parade . Regardless of how the pair crossed paths, their relationship took off pretty fast, and a year after they met, they tied the knot in a private ceremony in May 1987, according to The Daily Beast .

Rogers, a second-generation Scientologist, is likely one of the greatest influences that introduced Cruise to the controversial belief system that he has since adopted so passionately. Throughout their marriage, details of the relationship between Cruise and Rogers were constantly speculated, coinciding with the actor's growing fame following films like "Cocktail" and "Rain Man." The couple quietly split in 1989 and announced their split in January 1990, as reported by Entertainment Weekly .

Though Rogers and Cruise have an amicable relationship today, the two didn't always see eye to eye after their divorce. In a 1995 interview with People , Rogers spoke harshly about her marriage to Cruise, telling the outlet, "You cease to be an individual. . . . No matter what the article is, it's 'Tom Cruise's wife. . . .' Waiting for the moment when I don't have to talk about that [blankety-blank] name anymore."

Nicole Kidman

Around the time Cruise separated from Rogers, he met Kidman in 1989 while filming the movie "Days of Thunder." The two hit it off right away, with Cruise later revealing (via Newsweek ), "My first reaction to meeting Nic was pure lust . . . It was totally physical." The pair wed just months after meeting in December 1990 in a private ceremony held in Colorado, according to Entertainment Weekly .

After starring in the 1992 film "Far and Away," the couple adopted a baby girl , Bella Kidman Cruise, shortly after she was born on Dec. 22, 1992, per People. Bella's adoption came after Kidman had a pregnancy loss, which Kidman opened up about in a 2007 interview with Vanity Fair. "From the minute Tom and I were married, I wanted to have babies . . . And we lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that's when we would adopt [our daughter] Bella," she said (via People ). Three years later, Kidman and Cruise adopted their second child, a boy named Connor Kidman Cruise, after his birth on Jan. 17, 1995.

For the majority of the '90s, the two were one of Hollywood's greatest power couples. They would collaborate on screen again in 1999 and star as lovers in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut" together, but their marriage deteriorated not long after. In February 2001, the couple announced their separation. The divorce filing cited "difficulties inherent in divergent careers" as the cause for the relationship's end, per Entertainment Weekly , though many speculated the split to be partially attributed to the pair's differences in religious beliefs. Nazanin Boniadi

Though Cruise's relationship with Boniadi was short-lived, it was later revealed to be under unusual circumstances. According to a 2012 Vanity Fair story, Boniadi was one of several actors that were misled by Scientologist leaders to audition for a "special project" which required a makeover, training, and confidentiality agreements. Allegedly, the project was actually a quest from leaders in the organization to find Cruise another girlfriend after his split from Kidman.

In 2004, Boniadi was chosen to be Cruise's girlfriend, and within a month, the couple were living together. The relationship came to an end, however, after a meeting with Cruise and the Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige. Per Business Insider , the event that ended their brief fling involved a misunderstanding between Boniadi and Miscavige. "Overcome by a severe headache, Nazanin had a hard time understanding Miscavige, which infuriated him. The next day, Cruise — inches from her face — pounded on the table and screamed at her for insulting the head of the church," said Alex Gibney in the HBO documentary "Going Clear."

"Two weeks later, church henchman Tommy Davis delivered the news to Boniadi that her relationship with Cruise was over," the documentary revealed.

Katie Holmes

Following his breakup from Boniadi, Cruise met Holmes in April 2005 and started dating the "Dawson's Creek" star that same month, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Just one month after their romance started, Cruise notoriously professed his love for Holmes in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in May 2005, which many still associate with the actor even years after it took place. In June 2005, Holmes converted from Catholicism to the Church of Scientology, and the pair got engaged that same month.

By October 2005, Holmes and Cruise announced that they were expecting their first child together, and on April 18, 2006, they welcomed their daughter, Suri, into the world, per Today . The pair, dubbed "TomKat," eventually tied the knot in November 2006 and went on to garner intense media attention throughout the duration of the marriage.

Despite appearing strong on the outside, the couple's relationship was dwindling behind the scenes. In June 2012, Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise, with her rep telling outlets at the time (via Us Weekly ), "This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." A rep for Cruise on the other hand issued a separate statement, which read, "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy."

Cruise met Atwell on the set of "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" in 2020. Though the pair have neither confirmed nor denied being in a relationship, there have been fierce rumors about a romance between the costars. According to The Sun , the two began dating shortly after meeting on set, but kept their relationship under wraps. From that point on, they had an on-again, off-again relationship, and ultimately called it quits in June 2022, with a source close to the two telling The Sun, "They get on really well, and have fantastic chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly give the relationship another try earlier this year. But what was working behind closed doors didn't work out so well when it was made public, and the fanfare around them as a couple exploded again . . . They have now decided they are better as friends."

Tom Cruise Is ‘Very Relaxed and Content’ With Girlfriend Elsina Khayrova: They’re ‘Super Happy’ (Exclusive)

Tom Cruise is settling into his relationship with Elsina Khayrova while living in England, a source exclusively reveals in the latest issue of Us Weekly .

“They’re both happy in London and settled with a well-heeled social circle, all of whom believe it’s a great match,” the insider says, noting that Cruise, 61, is “very relaxed and content with his life right now.”

Despite the couple’s 25-year age difference , Cruise and Khayrova, 36, have a lot in common.

“They can sit and talk for hours about world affairs, arts and culture, history [and] sports,” the source tells Us, revealing that as a history buff, Cruise likes learning about Khayrova’s background and Russian upbringing.

The Top Gun: Maverick star finds Khayrova’s “journey and heritage fascinating,” the insider says, adding that Cruise thinks she’s “incredibly intelligent.”

While Cruise and Khayrova are still getting to know each other, the source claims to Us that the actor’s friends wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually get hitched.

“Tom [has] never ruled out getting married again; it’s just that the circumstances haven’t been right,” the insider shares, explaining that for now, Cruise and Khayrova aren’t worrying about the future and “are super happy together.”

Cruise and Khayrova went public with their relationship during a party in London’s Grosvenor Square in December 2023. However, a source exclusively told Us at the time that the couple had been quietly dating for “a while” before stepping out together.

“They’ve hung out at Tom’s favorite private members club and regularly enjoy afternoon tea and gourmet dinners out in London,” the insider said of the pair’s budding romance, explaining that Cruise is “extremely confident about it working out for the long term.”

The pair met through mutual friends in London’s social scene, according to the source, who told Us , “What started as a basic friendship quickly turned into something more special.”

According to Cruise, he first met Mimi Rogers in 1985 when he was developing the original Top Gun . Cruise told Rolling Stone in a 1986 interview that he met Rogers "at a dinner party about a year ago." Cruise also revealed that Rogers "was dating a friend" at the time they first met.

"I thought she was extremely bright," Cruise said.

However, Rogers has said that she wasn't dating anybody at the time. She told Sun Sentinel that she and Cruise were introduced through mutual friends.

In 1990, Cruise and Rogers made an official statement regarding the end of their marriage.

"While there have been positive aspects to our marriage, there were some issues which could not be resolved even after working on them for a period of time," they said.

Despite this, Cruise told Rolling Stone that he "couldn't imagine being without" Rogers just days before news of their split broke.

"Since I've been with her, it's opened me up a lot," Cruise said. "I think it's helped me be a better actor. We live a lot of life together. We share everything. That's the best thing about life. Otherwise, you go through it pretty sad and lonely and angry."

Cruise Passenger Receives 26-Year Sentence After Wife’s Mysterious Disappearance

A man has finally been convicted of a cruise ship murder which happened seven years ago. Daniel Belling was sentenced to 26 years in prison by an Italian court for murdering his wife in 2017 aboard MSC Magnifica.

However, Belling, who holds dual German and Irish citizenship, remains free. Following the incident, he was arrested and remained in prison until 2018. At the time there was no compelling evidence so he was released under Italian law. He was convicted in absence in Rome. 

Wife’s body has never been found

He was arrested in February 2017  trying to board a flight to Dublin with his children and with no sign of his wife, Chinese national Xing Lei Li, 38. Crew members had conducted a head count of passengers and determined she was missing. Belling did not inform anyone she was not on the ship. A body has never been found.

Belling maintains his innocence and claims his wife left the ship voluntarily during a port call in Greece. Following the verdict,he said he has “no intention of going to jail.” 

He was last known to be living in Dublin but his current location is unknown. Since the initial arrest, Belling has insisted he was not responsible for his wife’s disappearance.

Legal Process Far from Over

Since 2018, Belling has made a number of different claims about his wife’s whereabouts, saying she is likely in China or the disappearance was caused by her depression. 

The ten-day Mediterranean cruise departed Civitavecchia in Italy and made port calls in Malta, Greece and Cyprus.  He was charged with “causing the death of his wife and disposing of the corpse, hiding it or otherwise causing its destruction.”

The verdict was handed down by a lower court and the legal process is far from over, Belling’s Italian lawyer said. “It will take years,” Luigi Conti explained. Conti also said he doesn’t know Belling’s current location.

Burke, who left the dancing competition show in 2022 after 26 seasons, recently revealed that anyone hoping for a spot on DWTS should be ready to “drop everything, including your personal life.” According to the professional dancer, the “insane” rehearsal schedule oftentimes brings celebrities and their pro partners together on a more intimate level.

“It’s an arranged marriage. And it is black and white,” she said on the May 31 episode of her Sex, Lies, and Spray Tans podcast. “You either love each other or hate each other. For real.”

Burke continued, “You’re not like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s cute.’ Like, no, no, I either like you or I don’t because you’re constantly [together] eight hours a day, seven days a week. That’s insane. For three months? And you’re vulnerable.”

The podcaster then discussed a former celebrity contestant who admitted to having a crush on his partner, despite them both being married to other people at the time.

“It’s so intimate, and you’re stuck with this person. You better try and make it work at least. You get close in so many ways,” she said. “These celebrities are so vulnerable because in order to succeed you have to strip it all down. And that alone? I bet you most of these married celebrities have never even done that with their wives.”

She added, “Be single if you do  Dancing With Stars . That’s all I’m saying.”

Burke recently confessed to having three “ showmances ” with previous partners throughout her time on the show, though she told her listeners that they were all rooted in “lust.”

“It’s not love, right?” she said. “It is in that moment. Then you’re like, ‘Wait a second, how is this person, like in the real world?'”

­­­ Lots of people will be getting their sea legs this summer.

Ports have been packed with cruise ships over the last few years, as vacationers flock to ever larger vessels and operators race to accommodate a surge in post-pandemic bookings — many of them from first-time passengers. The industry expects even more this year.

Benjamin Xiang, a San Francisco-based flight attendant, went on his first cruise last August, setting aside his reservations about “cruise people” and a type of trip he’d imagined would be “not my travel style.”

Taking advantage of a Virgin Voyages promotion that let him use credit card points to cover the $2,500 bill, Xiang booked a weeklong, all-inclusive, adults-only cruise from Barcelona, with stops at Mallorca, Ibiza and along the French Riviera.“I invited my best friend, we prepaid a $600 bar tab, and we were like, ‘We’ll just hang by the pool, read a book or something,’” said Xiang, 35. “Turned out we partied every single night and had a blast.”

He’s among the many cruise newbies who’ve helped power the industry’s recent growth. Some 27% of cruise passengers over the past two years have been first-timers, up 12% from the prior two-year period, according to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), a trade group.

“Will I go back? I think yes,” Xiang said. “Will I pay this time? Yes.”That’s exactly what cruise operators are hoping for, and so far they’re getting it: 82% of all cruisers say they’ll book again, CLIA’s latest report found.

After welcoming 31.7 million passengers last year, 7% more than in 2019, the industry expects volumes to swell to 34.7 million by the end of 2024. Experts say a combination of newcomers, repeat bookers and younger travelers are powering the uptick.

Like Xiang, many first-time cruisers are groups of friends traveling together, said Jennifer Klaussen, who owns Sundari Travel in Malibu, California.

“Once they get on a cruise and realize it’s not what they thought it would be, they’re usually interested in future cruises and diverse destinations,” she said, adding that newer operators have managed to “reduce the stigma associated with cruising — that it’s only for the elderly.”

Passengers under age 40, including kids, made up around 42% of cruisegoers last year, up from 35% in 2019, according to CLIA. While the average age of a cruise customer is 46 industrywide, millennials now make up nearly the same share — 22% — as baby boomers and Gen Xers, who each comprise 24%.“The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic,” said Colleen McDaniel, editor-in-chief of Cruise Critic, “whether that’s a big, new ship with eye-catching attractions for families, or more bucket-list-worthy experiences like sailings in the Galapagos or Antarctica.”

The cruise industry has been hard at work to launch new ships and experiences that are attractive to a younger, newer demographic.

Amenities don’t hurt either, said Nathan Rosenberg, chief brand officer at Virgin Voyages, which began sailing only in 2021, as the cruise industry rebounded from the pandemic. “Millennials and Gen Z love the fact that everything is included. Think meals foodies would love, tips covered, Wi-Fi to stay connected and a ton of fitness classes,” he said.Vessels are getting bigger to handle the growing demand.

In January, Royal Caribbean Group launched Icon of the Seas — currently the world’s largest cruise ship, with 20 decks, 40 restaurants and room for more than 7,000 passengers and 3,000 crew members.

The company, meanwhile, reported a 16% increase in new cruisegoers between this year and last across its various cruise lines. Nearly half of all Royal Caribbean guests are millennials or younger, CEO Jason Liberty said on the company’s first-quarter earnings call.

Similarly, Norwegian Cruise Lines CEO Harry Sommer told CNBC earlier this month, “We appeal obviously to older customers, but millennial and Gen Z is the fastest-growing segment of our cruising right now.”

Cruises generally aren’t cheap, though, and Sommer noted that the company’s target customer is middle- or upper-income. As consumer spending cools down across much of the economy, Americans are adjusting their summer vacation plans to fit their budgets.The share of travelers put off by steep prices hit 32% in Deloitte’s annual summer travel survey , up sharply from 24% last year. But more affluent vacationers still seem eager to shell out on everything from first-class airfare to luxury train trips , as the industry continues to push premium offerings .

“More higher-income travelers are headed to cruises,” whereas “lower-income travelers are going camping,” the Deloitte report, released Tuesday, said. (“RV trips are up across the board,” it added.)

That doesn’t mean cruise passengers aren’t paying attention to price.

Jaclyn Groh will be going on her first cruise in March 2025, sailing around the Caribbean. The 34-year-old therapist and social work professor at Ohio State University in Columbus typically takes her family on boat trips on a lake, beach visits, “and of course the occasional Disney adventure for the kiddos,” said Groh.

While some of her friends have done family cruises, she’s never been interested in the largest cruise ships because they seem “overwhelming.” But in shopping around for a vacation next year for just her and her husband, Groh said her travel agent’s description of the packages available won her over.The smaller Explora II vessel she opted for has a “boutique feel that we love,” she said. And it’s priced about the same as the resort in Curaçao where the couple will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this fall. That week on land will run about $6,500, while the cruise comes to about $6,700.

“The price seems very reasonable for all of the inclusions, and yet with the cruise we will get to experience so many new locations and excursions,” said Groh, who’s looking forward to “a perfect combination of resting in luxury and adventuring.”
