Carlos Alcaraz’s 2024 tennis schedule as Wimbledon champion’s first five events of new season are confirmed

Carlos Alcaraz celebrations

Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed his first five tournaments for the new campaign, but which other events are set to feature on his 2024 tennis schedule?

Two-time Grand Slam winner Alcaraz played in 17 tournaments in 2023, winning six titles including Wimbledon, and he will be hoping for an even better return next year.

The Spaniard’s management team have already confirmed that he will play at the Australian Open before heading to South America for two events and thereafter he will take part in the Sunshine Double.

Carlos Alcaraz’s possible 2024 tennis calendar

Australian open – january 15-28.

After missing last year’s Australian Open due to injury, Alcaraz will make his third appearance at the season-opening Grand Slam in 2024. However, his team coaching have opted not to enter him in any warm-up events before the hard-court major.

His best performance at Melbourne Park to date is a run to the third round in 2022.

Argentina Open – February 12-18

The Spaniard made his 2023 debut at the Argentina Open and he will once again head back to Buenos Aires in early February 2024.

Last year he won the ATP 250 event on clay, defeating Cameron Norrie 6–3, 7–5 in the final.

Rio Open – February 19-25

Alcaraz reached back-to-back finals in South America in 2023 as he finished runner-up to Norrie in Brazil, but he will aim to go one better at the Rio Open next year.

The Spaniard won the ATP 500 tournament in 2022.

Indian Wells Open – March 4-17

After his South American adventure, Alcaraz will head Stateside for the Sunshine Double and the Indian Wells Open is first on the calendar.

The Spaniard is the defending champion of the ATP Masters 1000 Indian Wells Open as he defeated Daniil Medvedev in the 2023 final to win his second title of the year.

Miami Open – March 18-31

Alcaraz will be aiming to join an exclusive club of players to win the Sunshine Double in the same season as he missed an opportunity the past two years.

Having won the 2022 Miami Open, Alcaraz’s 2023 campaign was halted by Jannik Sinner in the semi-final.

Monte Carlo Masters – April 8-14

After picking up an injury during his Miami Open defeat, Alcaraz skipped the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters to be ready for the double assault on Spanish soil.

The two-time Grand Slam winner is set to make only his second appearance in the Principality with his only other visit coming in 2022 when he fell in the second round.

Barcelona Open – April 15-21

Carlos Alcaraz is unbeaten at the Barcelona Open since he lost in the first round of the 2021 edition.

He won his first title in the Spanish city with a two-set win over Pablo Carreño Busta in the 2022 final and followed it up with another straight-set victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas the following year.

Madrid Open – April 22 to May 5

Alcaraz has lost only one match at the ATP Masters 1000 event in the Spanish capital and that defeat came in the second round on his debut in 2021 when he was beaten by his idol Rafael Nadal.

In 2022 he defeated Nadal and Novak Djokovic en route to the final before brushing aside Alexander Zverev in the showpiece match.

He successfully defended his title in 2023 as he defeated lucky loser Jan-Lennard Struff in the final.

Italian Open – May 6-13

After missing the previous edition due to injury, Alcaraz finally made his debut at Foro Italico in 2023.

However, he didn’t have the best of times in Rome as he was stunned by qualifier Fabian Marozsan in the third round.

Roland Garros – May 27-June 9

Many believe it is only a matter of time before Alcaraz wins the French Open and he appeared to be on course for first title in Paris in 2023 as he was top seed and reached the semi-final.

However, he ran into an inspired Novak Djokovic and struggled to deal with the pressure, eventually going down in four sets.

Queen’s Club Championship – June 17-23

Before the 2023 season, Alcaraz had a 6-2 record on grass, but he won back-to-back titles to take that 18-2.

His first success came at the ATP 500 event at Queen’s Club as he won the tournament on his debut, defeating Alex de Minaur in the final.

Wimbledon – July 1-14

Not too many people would have predicted Alcaraz’s second Grand Slam would come at Wimbledon yet he produced another magical run at SW19.

The top seed beat the likes of Holger Rune and Daniil Medvedev to reach the final and then stunned defending champion Djokovic 1–6, 7–6 (8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4 in an epic final.

Paris Olympics – July 27-August 4

The Paris Olympics is one of the biggest events on the 2024 tennis calendar with Alcaraz looking to become one of only a handful of players to win singles gold.

And it’s not only in the singles where he will be aiming for gold as there is talk of a Spanish dream partnership with Rafael Nadal in the men’s doubles.

Canadian Open – August 5-11

Given the timing of the Paris Olympics, there are doubts over whether or not many of the top players will compete at the 2024 Canadian Open.

Last time out Alcaraz reached the quarter-final before he was stunned by Tommy Paul in 2022 he made the second round.

Cincinnati Open – August 12-18

Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic produced an all-time classic in the 2022 Cincinnati Open final with the former walking away with the title after three hours and 49 minutes, winning 5–7, 7–6 (9–7), 7–6 (7–4).

The Spaniard reached the quarter-final the previous year.

US Open – August 26-September 8

After winning the 2022 US Open that sent him to the top of the ATP Rankings, Alcaraz was one of the favourites for the 2023 title.

However, he failed to defend his title as he was upset by Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final.

Davis Cup Group Stage – September 9-15

Alcaraz opted to skip the 2023 Davis Cup Group Stage as he struggled with fatigue and Spain failed to qualify for the knockout phase.

The youngster is likely to feature in 2024.

Laver Cup – September 16-22

This is one of the tournaments that Alcaraz has already confirmed for the 2024 season with the Spaniard set to make his debut for Team Europe in the annual team event.

China Open – September 23-29

Alcaraz made his Asian swing debut in 2023, but he didn’t have the best of times. He reached the semi-final of the ATP 500 China Open, but lost in straight sets Jannik Sinner.

Given his decision to play in the Laver Cup, Alcaraz might skip the 2024 edition of the China Open.

Shanghai Masters – October 2-13

Alcaraz made his debut at the Shanghai Masters in 2023, but his lacklustre end-of-season form continued as he was upset by Grigor Dimitrov in the last 16.

Swiss Indoors – October 23-29

Alcaraz was due to play in the Swiss Indoors in 2023, but this was another tournament he opted to skip due to injury.

He reached the semi-final in 2022, losing against eventual champion Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Paris Masters – October 28-November 3

The Paris Masters is another tournament that Alcaraz is yet to crack as he was stunned by qualifier Roman Safiullin in the second round in 2023 while in 2022 he retired in the quarter-final due to injury.

ATP Finals – November 10-17

After missing the 2022 ATP Finals due to injury, Alcaraz made his debut at the season-ending event in 2023, but he never really looked comfortable.

He lost his opening round-robin match against Alexander Zverev before exiting the tournament at the semi-final stage with a straight-set loss to Novak Djokovic.

Davis Cup Finals – TBC

If Spain qualify for the Davis Cup Finals then Alcaraz will no doubt be part of the squad.
